I don’t even really want to talk about how insulting Yan Hui’s little “I can use the ambient spiritual energy to propel my sword” bs in the drama is.

She almost never makes use of it. It’s arguably one of her only reliable means of self-defense or transportation for quite a while until she powers up but??? She doesn’t do jackshit with it aside from intimidating Zi Yue and going “aww I can’t use it at Tongluo Mountain :(”.

Like if this drama wants this ability of hers to properly land as something important to her bc it was taught by her shifu then HAVE HER FUCKING MAKE USE OF IT. Let us see how he gave her a means of defending herself when she couldn’t make it past 1-star disciple!

And what makes it worse is that they KNOW one of Novel! Yan Hui’s signature abilities was the Propelling Sword Technique. They KNOW because this isn’t the first time they jangled butchered iconic moments from the novel to throw breadcrumbs to the novel reader audience.

It’s also part of a larger problem with the drama weakening Yan Hui’s ties to Chen Xing Mountain in favor of making her emotionally revolve basically entirely around Tian Yao but we’ll fucking get to that later.
