After being sold out on their official website for a while I found a French fragrance site that was carrying Guerlain's new Shalimar Millésime Tonka. This has become an annual thing where Guerlain makes a new variation of their classic Shalimar, focusing on a specific note. Last year was vanilla and it sold out instantly, with eBay sellers raking in hundreds. This year the they focused on Tonka bean and I was glad to snatch up a bottle because it's a great fragrance. It's definitely a classic "grandma" scent, super vintagey--like they just don't make fragrances that smell like this anymore--but it's so nice! The top starts with bitter almond and bergamot, with a lot of iris giving that powdery effect. This wasn't blowing me away but I certainly didn't hate it; however, on the drydown, that's where the tonka gets to shine. It's vanillic and spicy and a little gourmand, reminding me a lot of Dior's Vanilla Diorama (a scent I was initially unimpressed with but have come to absolutely love; I actually have my extended thoughts on that frag in my drafts right now).

On top of the scent itself let's be real, you're kind of paying for this gorgeous fucking bottle. If I were at a flea market or thrift store and saw this bottle empty, I'd probably still buy it as a beautiful little bauble. It's a pleasure to look at, a pleasure to hold in your hand, allowing your thumb to rub against the smooth glass, perhaps flicking against the black leather ribbon. Okay I'm getting carried away 🤤

But yeah, really nice scent, great bottle. Super happy with this one. I'll almost certainly start tracking down these annual releases to see what they do next.

Lolita Lempicka Mon Premier Parfum - Lolita Lempicka

If you want to smell like a fairy princess, this is it. The star notes are (to me) cherry, licorice, and violet. I would die for violet, especially this one. I think it’s usually described as a floral gourmand, but I don’t think gourmand quite fits. It’s more reminiscent of the sort of delicious-looking, sugared-violet-topped confection you might see at a fairy feast in the middle of the forest. You can look, but you know eating it would be bad (as tempting as it is).

Tonka and Marmalade Yoghurt

The vibrancy of citrus swirled into thick, creamy and delicately spiced yoghurt make this Tonka and Marmalade Yoghurt a simple yet special breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients (serves 1):

1/2 cup Greek Yoghurt

Tonka bean

2 heaped teaspoons of your favourite marmalade (mine at the moment is this delicious thin-cut bergamot marmalade I brought back from Menton)

Spoon Greek Yoghurt into serving bowl.

Grate in about 1/4 teaspoon Tonka bean, stirring well to combine. Chill in the refrigerator, at least half an hour.

Just before serving, spoon Marmalade on top, and gently swirl it into the yoghurt.

Enjoy Tonka and Marmalade Yogurt immediately,
