#OTD in 2009:
Sharon: “I want every inch of this area taped off. Sergeant Davies, make sure those casings over there are marked with our GPS system. That couple over there, the ones who called 911, they say they saw the murder from the car. Separate them, get detailed, and I mean detailed statements from both of them.”
Andy: “Uh, Captain Raydor?”
Sharon: “Lieutenant Flynn, I'm a little busy. What is it?”
Andy: “Well, we were wondering if, while you're investigating the shooting of a scumbag suspect we might look into the actual murder.
Provenza: “Chief Johnson won't be happy with the evidence detior...”
Sharon; “This isn't Chief Johnson's crime scene. So I wouldn't worry about it, gentlemen. Officer-involved shootings are my jurisdiction, not Major Crimes.”
Provenza: “That dead body over there is ours.”
Sharon: “Not tonight.”
Taylor: “Captain Raydor, uh, maybe it might expedite things if...”
Sharon: “If you explain why the Sergeant who pulled the trigger was permitted to leave after drinking and while you were with him, which makes you a percipient witness. What hospital am I going to?”
Taylor: “Cedars.”
Sharon: “Sergeant Ray, get the Commander's statement and get him out of here. Sergeant Elliot, I'm reachable on my cell!”

I’ve been rewatching The Closer recently and saw that episode where Brenda accidentally gets high. It made me wonder what would happen if Sharon ended up in a similar situation. Honestly, this might just be my excuse to let her act totally out of character, but it made me laugh, so I went with it. I had such a good time writing this fic and I hope it brings you some joy too.

In the Season 1 Episode 3 recap of 'Thank You For Not Morphing,' Shannen and Holly reunite with their on-screen long lost father 'Victor' played by the timeless Tony Denison! Find out why he was replaced on Charmed, and how producer Aaron Spelling paid some big bucks to make it up to him. Plus, what other casting moves did producers make without telling Prue and Piper?

What should've happened in the episode where Provenza prioritized a baseball game over reporting a murder victim.
Note: I don't hate Provenza or Flynn but if I were Brenda in that episode I would've thrown Provenza out the window and fired Flynn on the spot just for going along with Provenza's scheme.
Brenda's reaction would've been considered tame compared to mine.

What Duff has done to so many of his characters, specially his female characters, is ATROCIOUS. As a writer myself I can't imagining having such great characters with great potential and voluntarily DESTROY THEM.
Like, Brenda Leigh Johnson was one of the most competent people to ever grace the LAPD with her presence, solved so many cases, found justice for so many people only for all her hard work to later be used against her to destroy her. The whole Baylor mess was SO FORCED, she made it clear that they needed more time to figure the case out but nooo because the big bad army general having a tantrum about 'national security' (You can't tell me that the fact that one of the soldiers' siblings was a gang member that was his identical twin, one that kept saying that he needed protection because someone was after him, wasn't an indicator that the 3 being soldiers wasn't the motive...Like, national security, MY ASS) and her cry baby of a boss (Will Pope was the most useless character, an idiot who told a woman that saved his sorry ass so many times - she risked HER CAREER AND REPUTATION so that HE could have custody of HIS kids - that she had no chance of ever being chief of police and then when she made the final cut and he didn'the threw a fit like a spoiled brat) pushed for a deal and winded up offering immunity to a MONSTER. But they didn't face any consequences.
Because men in this show never do.
Just like that IDIOT OF A DA who all but FORCED BRENDA to share all the evidence they had with someone who turned out to be a SERIAL RAPIST AND MURDERER?
Am I the only seeing a pattern here? The way the two cases that DESTROYED HER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY were the ones that she would have closed the right way if dumbass men hadn't undermined her experience and competence pretending they knew her job better than her?
And what was the purpose of killing Willie Rae if not only to TWIST THE KNIFE even further?
Then there is Irene Daniels, who wasn't given enough screen time and not nearly enough scenes with Brenda despite the fact that they WERE THE ONLY TWO WOMEN (Because that's another thing, Duff has a problem with, women supporting each other and female friendships). Irene was a good detective, she was determined, she was driven, she fought for justice and she brought to the team a kind of expertise and competences that was very much necessary. Yet she's the one who left, not Gabriel who was the one at fault for their problems as demonstrated by the fact that he WOULD NOT LEAVE HER ALONE. He was all but harrassing her after the break up. Like, dude, you called it quits, LEAVE HER ALONE.
And then she wasn't even mentioned? It would have been nice to at least get news that she got a promotion in CID if she really had to go.
And then there's Sharon, who was cheated not only with the ending she got - killing her just when she finally got to experience a good marriage is EVIL they didn't even get to go on their hoveymoon... WHO DOES THAT? - but also by her backstory... WTF DO YOU MEAN SHE STAYED MARRIED TO THAT JACKASS EVEN AS THE KIDS GREW UP? AND NO I DO NOT BUY THE 'RELIGIOUS MOTIVES' JACK'S BEHAVIOUR IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WOULD HAVE GOTTEN HER THAT ANNULLMENT.
Also... Why the fuck are her accomplishments tied to HIS NAME? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? And not only that but her not have wanted to be a cop? Doing it for Him? I FEEL SICK!
But also just... Why did Jack even exist? He was so unnecessary as a character.
HONESTLY, SHANDY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SECRETLY MARRIED DURING THE CLOSER - WITH SHARON GOING BY HER MAIDEN NAME AT WORK JUST LIKE BRENDA - AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL. Like... Even the two actors picked as Sharon's kids could pass for Shandy's kids, Emily is mini Sharon down to the smile and expressions and NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME, and I cannot stress this enough, that Ricky doesn't look like Andy, they look like father and son.
WASTED. FUCKING. OPORTUNITY.
Also, on the topic of Shandy... The DISRESPECT of not having Andy flirt with Sharon. Like you ESTABLISHED HIM as a charming, charismatic man and then that doesn't come out with THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE? TF?
Like it's bad enough we barely see them kiss, but not even flirty banter? SERIOUSLY?
And, aside from all that, I also want to address Thomas Delk and Russel Taylor.
Delk shouldn't have been killed and this is another hill I'll die on, unlike Pope he respected the people he worked with, especially the women he worked with, he recognized both Sharon' and Brenda's competence - sure he was a little tough on Brenda for the Baylor mess but we already established that was bs - and didn't try to pit two powerful women against each other for his benefit, wihich Will did CONSTANTLY.
Delk should have been Chief of Police, and Brenda should have taken Pope's job which would have allowed to still interact with her team and be involved, even if less, in investigations (that's another disgusting thing about Duff's writing... Brenda's submissive attitude towards Will, this sort of sick codependency, the way he manipulates her constantly), and as a result, Pope should have gone to Traffic like intended.
Also Brenda in Will's place and Sharon leading Major Crimes and them being the LAPD'S most badass duo? WASTED. FUCKING. OPORTUNITY. AGAIN.
But then again, it's a truth universally acknowledged that there is nothing misogynists hate more than two competent powerful women working together istead of trying to tear each other down.
Then there's Taylor who for me only had two options get a much needed redemption arc or have all his two sides, sneaky, backstabbig playing come back to bite him.
He was written like such a snake, always trying to put others down for his benefit and he was two-faced, always switching sides, it was exhausting. I TRIED TO LIKE HIM, I LIKED HIM DURING THE CLARK CASE AND WHEN POPE DISMANTLED PRIORITY HOMICIDES AND HE AND BRENDA BLINDSIDED POPE IN FRONT OF THE JURNALIST.
But he always reverted back to being ready to backstab everyone. And I am going to say it, he didn't deserve to be a commender and he did not deserved Pope's job. Brenda was right, she rightfully outranked him. He wasn't half as competent and half the time he cared more about appearances than actually solving cases like... Do we need about the time he lead Priority Homicides instead of Brenda and only superficially worked cases, ignoring Flynn and Gabriel as they made freaking valid points? And even mocked Brenda? Like WTF?
He needed to recognize his mistakes (And I would have loved that, I was all about a redemption arc but it never came, it was always a hot then cold situation and that is BAD WRITING. PERIOD.) and change or paying the price for his behavior. Instead he remained a fake, two face gossip and still got more regard and respect than the two leading ladies of both shows.
Major Crimes Lessons: If your a woman your story ends in disgrace and death. If your a man your story ends in promotion and position.
Lessons that Major Crimes Taught Me: Brenda leaves the LAPD in disgrace. Sharon, Willie Rae and Julio’s mom all die. Irene Daniels leaves because of her and David’s relationship problems. Emma is killed by Stroh. Amy and Andrea have no ending.
Tumblr media
Rusty kills Stroh in cold blood and is rewarded with a position at the D.A.’s office. Provenza starts his tenure as the head of Major Crimes by covering up murder. Julio and Fritz are totally cool with it. Julio and Buzz also get promotions into new positions.
And no not every single male made it out alive and happy but lets count how many female characters had a happy ending or an ending at all.  Cami is the only one I can think of. And her ending revolves around a man.

Atlas Shrugged Part III: Who Is John Galt? (2014)
Tumblr media
There’s something deeply satisfying about the failure that is Atlas Shrugged Part III: Who Is John Galt?. The first film had a budget of $20 million. It tanked at the box office. The sequel had a budget of $10 million and tanked as well. This third chapter was made with a budget of $5 million and earned less than $1 million in ticket sales. All three films feature a completely different cast despite being released only 1-2 years apart. If these movies were good, or even passable that would be depressing but these films are part nut-job parable, part cheezy romance. If there’s an entry in this series that’s so bad it’s good, it’s Part III: Who Is John Galt?, though whether it’s worth sitting through two films to have a couple of laughs at its expense is another story…
After pursuing Quentin Daniels to a remote part of the country, Dagny Taggart (played this time by Laura Regan) crashes into an invisible barrier. She’s discovered Galt’s Gulch, a hidden valley where the United States' brightest minds have retreated to avoid the government's oppressive over-regulation of companies and products. Dagny is told by John Galt (Kristoffer Polaha) that she and Henry Rearden (Rob Morrow) are the only people missing from this new hidden society of free entrepreneurs and inventors. Is Dagny ready to abandon Taggart Transcontinental and the rest of the outside world, or will she continue a fight everyone else thinks has already been lost?
At the end of Atlas Shrugged: Part II, I wondered what the point was. So much of the second movie reiterated what we had already been told. What unsuspecting plot points or revelations could possibly justify this book by Ayn Rand being turned into a trilogy? As this film begins, you’ll double-underscore that question because Rearden, who for the most part has been an important secondary character, is basically written out of the film to make room for John Galt, whom Dagny instantly falls for. It’s like a demented version of a fairytale conjured up by some loony objectivist. After falling into Galt’s magical kingdom, Dagny is confronted by the mystery man whose name is spoken like a curse in the outside world. What a surprise! He’s handsome and charismatic. Best of all, he believes that unfettered self-interest is good and altruism will ruin society. If that doesn’t make a lady want to take off her clothes, I don’t know what does.
The film tries so hard to make John Galt into a hero it becomes comical. At one point, he hijacks a broadcast by the President of the United States - oh, sorry. I mean the “Head of States” (Peter Mackenzie) - so he can deliver a message of rebellion and hope to the people. We're supposed to see him as some Bizarro world version of V. After heroically giving himself up, he is tortured by those goons in the White House in a way that resembles a crucifixion way too much to be a coincidence.
Who Is John Galt? is so hammy you might lose track of the film’s message, which is the same as before. The big enemy is the government. Yeah, there’s been some interference from Dagny's useless brother, the President of Taggart Industries (Greg Germann, whose character has a sub-plot that amounts to so little it must have been included solely because it was in the source material) but it’s those meanies up on Capital Hill that have been causing all the trouble. They insist on breaking up monopolies, taxing the rich, forcing wealthy states to share their money with poorer states, etc. Remember that last one. A turning point in this film that shows just how evil the Head of States is comes when we learn that a trainload of grains meant for a poor state is being diverted to another. “But the people will starve!” screams Dagny. “Why does she care?” you’ll ask. “Didn’t she previously tell us that altruism is for dummies and soft-headed care-bears?”
The biggest joke in this whole movie comes during the end credits when we see that the film’s budget included contributions from Kickstarter supporters. It’s so ironic I wonder how many of them sent money to director J. James Manera so they could metaphorically piss all over this film and on Ayn Rand in the process. If she believed in half of what this film exposits, she must’ve been one of the most uncompassionate, cold-blooded reptiles to ever disguise herself as a human being.
It’s easy to find things to say about a movie like Atlas Shrugged Part III: Where is John Galt?. My friends and I watched it together and our collective suffering will make us a more tightly-knit group. That doesn’t mean I recommend you watch it. The first two parts are so dull and infuriating that the “homework” needed for you to understand the irony of this cinematic blight just isn’t worth it. (On Blu-ray, April 7, 2023)

“Andy has envisioned an ideal evening with Sharon: a nice dinner leading up to a movie, and cozy tranquility. But when duty calls, Sharon needs to get on with the office’s paperwork, and Andy instantly loses interest in what they were watching. Looking at Sharon, Andy ponders over how much his life has changed since she appeared — how her presence brought light to his days, balance to his uncertainties, and inspired him to be a better man.”
Tumblr media
Hi, everyone! I'm rewatching The Closer and Major Crimes and realized how much I miss fics exploring Sharon and Andy's relationship, so I thought: why not give it a try? Here I am, posting my first fic, and I hope you enjoy it.

CHARMED REWATCH, 1x03: "Thank You For Not Morphing"
-What the hell? So, the first two episodes the opening credits had Dorian in them and then in episode 3 he’s gone. What?
-I’m watching the credits, and it says, “Tony Denison as Victor Halliwell” and I burst out laughing. I mean, it obviously has to do with the fact that I’ve seen the show and know that when Victor comes back his last name is Bennett, but just seeing it say “Victor Halliwell” amused me so much. That and the fact that I’m pretty sure Halliwell was Patty’s maiden name so why would Victor take Patty’s last name?
-Also, it’s weird to hear someone call Prue “Prudence” since I’m pretty sure Victor is the only one who doesn’t call her Prue.
-I can’t imagine how heartbreaking that was for Phoebe when Victor called her Piper because he doesn’t really know Piper and Phoebe as well as he knows Prue.
-How does this guy grab the Book of Shadows? I thought nothing evil could touch the book, then the book can’t leave the house, like a force field is keeping it in. I’m pretty sure Paige takes the book out of the house in season 4, so what the hell? Can only the sisters/good witches take the book out of the house? Early season rules are interesting when you know stuff that happens later.
-I find it hilarious how this episode does everything it can to make Victor look guilty.
-LEO!!
Tumblr media
-Also, it will always be weird to see Phoebe flirt with Leo.
