For much of human history, children were dressed similarly or identical to adults and this was true for the Victorian era which saw children dressed in stiff heavy layers that didn't allow for play. By the 1900s, in line with adult styles, children clothing became much less elaborate. Little girls emulated the elongated silhouette fashionable for adult women with drop waist dresses while boys' clothing became increasingly sailor inspired.

The 1910s established children's clothing as separate to adult styles. Sailor outfits were all the rage, particularly for young boys. WW1 meant rationing so hemlines crept up and clothing became less ornate in construction and embellishments.

After the war, in the 1920s, children's fashion remained simple, gone were the velvets and silk of the Victorians, instead sturdy textiles like cotton were used. Layering had also become a thing of the past, outfits were now often simple one pieces.

The Great depression occured in the 1930s and it left many families destitute. Children's clothing was handmade and sturdy fabrics like denim were favoured; "flour sack" dresses also became common place.

By the 1940s, many families had recovered from the depression but WW2 and rationing still meant that clothing had to be handmade with what was available. Many magazines at the time included simple patterns and any fabric was used even old curtains.

The 1950s are defined by the baby boom. Lots more children around increased demand for children's clothing and for a majority of families, life and finances improved after the war therefore they had money to spend. This lead to mass-manufacture of clothing using synthetic fibres..Young girls fashions were increasingly feminine:full skirt dresses,similar to their mothers, with bows and other hair accessories.

Boys' clothing became sturdier to allow for increased physical activity as the government of many countries began to mandate compulsory phys ed due to high levels of poor fitness exposed by the draft.

How often do I update my decades challenge? Oof, that's a good question. I don't know either, but I do have a post currently ready to be posted ;) generally, I think I’ll post about once a week or whenever inspiration strikes. Though it mostly depends on my current inspiration + the energy I have to actually do something.

As for cc... that's a good question! I actually have a cc finds blog (that's a permanent wip) @history-and-pixels. Though it hardly contains all the cc I use, ahah. Here are a few of my favourite historical cc creators with stuff for toddlers and children:

Firstly thank you! Most of the clothing in AxA is 99% ayoshi with me going in after and cleaning/adding some stuff. So I give him props for the clothes :P As far as a ‘new PTS’ style group idk, there are a lot of amazing creators on simblr but I think the reason PTS was such a special thing is because the bond they all had. I feel that when working on collabs with some of my really close friends (such as the one coming out this month with @dogsill​ and @ayoshi​) because we have known each other for over 2 years now. A group of friends built only for collabing purposes would be more of a hassle than an enjoyment imo. <3

zip your Sims 4 folder and upload it to Google Drive/SimsFileShare/OneDrive. Then when you install Sims 4 again you just replace the folder made in Electronic Arts in your Documents.

Answering Asks Backlog pt. 1

For the next couple of days I’m going to be emptying my entire ask box of all the asks that have been left sitting since I’ve been away for a while. If your ask was not answered after I’m done with all of them (I will announce when we’ve come to the end) your ask was either a request, a suggestion or eaten by Tumblr. If it’s not a request or suggestion, please feel free to send again!

1) Every game is different and it's not possible for models/textures to be extracted from every game. Some game are easier than others - your best bet is looking on deviantArt for 'XNALara' or 'XPS' conversions if you have no idea how to convert things yourself. XPS is a program that lets you pose characters and create scenes - a lot of people convert models from various games to XPS, which can be used to convert into the Sims. There is a special addon for Blender that allows you to open XPS files directly into Blender, which you can then use to convert onto a Sims' body (or in the case of buy/build: convert it as an object).

If you are planning to do the extracting of models (taking the models and textures out of the game) yourself, you're going to have to research on how to do that for the game you are planning to extract from: it's different for every game out there.

As for the process on how to convert things from start to finish, your best bet is really the Sims 4 Studio forums. They have hundreds of tutorials that can help you with what exactly you are looking for.

Terms of Use

Don’t reupload anything I create to another file sharing site.

If you do make anything based off my creations, make a decent effort at contacting me. This isn’t for “permission” per se, I just want to know about it. Remember to provide credit to me and a link back to the original Tumblr post (don’t use the direct download links) in your post.

Recolours of my meshes are allowed, but don’t include the mesh if you will be sharing it beyond personal use. If my work is simply a recolour itself, use the original mesh which I used and follow that creator’s T.O.U. rather than mine, since you’re recolouring their work and not mine.

If you do share any recolours (without the mesh, of course), don’t lock it behind a paywall (unless it’ll be made available to the public for free within a week or two) and don’t put the link behind an ad wall (such as adfly).

Don’t share the actual files and don’t share the download links (like SFS links), share the Tumblr post link. This includes /Mods folder sharing. Don’t share your full Mods folder with people if it has anything of mine in it (the fact it’s bad practice to share an entire Mods folder is another point entirely...)

Are you WCIF friendly?

Sure. If there’s CC I’ve used on one of my models, feel free to send an ask to jamofjars and I’ll answer you as soon as I can. I try to keep the clothing on show limited to either my own CC or vanilla content. But there are some hairs/ facial hairs that my sims have that they wouldn’t look the same without.

Why do you rarely post?

This is my Creations Tumblr, rather than my main Tumblr. I actually have 2 other public Tumblrs.

I have jamofjars which is my main Simblr, here I post the screenies of my saves when I’ve got some good stories to tell. I always reblog my CC to that Tumblr, as well as reblogging the Tumblr posts of some of the big modders and CC creators who I know and support.

I have another tumblr called HMS Chromakeyed which is way more relaxed and posts very little Sims related stuff. I try to keep it jovial on there, and will post there when I’m feeling inspired to write something. Posts can be long or posts can be short, but I’m a bit more relaxed over there (and complain a lot).

Why can’t I send Asks to this Tumblr?

I don’t accept Asks through this Tumblr, for the sake of cleanliness. However, I’m more than willing to accept Asks through jamofjars. I’ll respond to them there, and (if they’re relevant to this Tumblr) reblog them here occasionally.

Who do you use to model your CC?

Most of my CC is modelled by my sims, often the sims who I’m playing at the moment. There may occasionally be “guest models” who aren’t my normal sims (or sometimes, not even mine at all) who model, but the ones who crop up on a regular basis are my active play sims generally. You’ll maybe recognise the Swyfts from the Parhayba legacy on jamofjars, so I’d suggest having a look over there if you’re wanting to see more.

Do you take requests?

No, unfortunately not. What I do is highly dependent upon the level of difficulty and my desire to make the CC itself. Sometimes, I might throw out a “What should I make?” on my Discord server looking for ideas and if someone messages me with a good idea, then I’ll consider it. But I will not guarantee anything.

Why do you have a problem with /Mods folder sharing?

Firstly, Mods folder sharing means that you don’t get to see all the CC available, both of mine and of other people’s. So you might not be getting all the best stuff. Additionally, there might be old mods/ pieces of CC which are broken. This is especially the case for Mods folders which are public sharing but can also be the case for sharing among friends. Occasionally, pieces of my CC will be updated, so old versions of those might be around in someone else’s Mods folder.

What type of CC do you prefer?

Maxis Match, I like the cartoon-y feel of Sims 4. I mostly prefer and make male CC too, since I prefer playing male sims and I often struggle to find male MM CC that I like (I’m quite picky). Occasionally I might do other things as experiments or because my interest is piqued, but that’s that I generally use and make.

<Insert CC here> isn’t working for me. What should I do?

Message me, and I’ll take a look as soon as I can. If it’s something simple to fix, then I’ll get an update out, attach an update notice to the post and update the file link. Then I’ll reply to you to let you that I’ve updated them.

If it’s something more serious, I might send you a link to my Discord where we can discuss it in more detail and you send things like screenshots and error files. In which case, I’ll get everything sorted as quickly as I can.

What sites do you use to upload files?

I use Simfileshare, as it’s my personal preference to download from. It’s a file sharing site designed purely for Simmers, so it makes the most sense as the primary download source. I then use Google Drive as a secondary download, since SFS has been known to experience minor glitches occasionally, so I like to have alternative downloads available.

Finally (and more recently), my CC is also mirrored on Patreon posts. These are the Early Access posts which have since been made public. Originally, I was removing the download attachment, and linking to the post, but now I’ve decided to simply leave the download available.

What mods do you use?

Quite a few, and I’m not going to even attempt to list them. I am happy to respond to comments and asks if you’d like to know about one specific mod, or how I do certain things. But otherwise, I’m not going to publish a list of My Mods because that would be WAY too much work to maintain as I add and remove things from my collection.

Chestnut Drive Shopping Centre is designated as a laundromat, as the designation is required for the laundrette part to work, but there are also places to buy books and groceries (both RH and playable versions to accommodate multiple playstyles), and the bookstore RH doubles as a spa. This is basically the multi-purpose shopping lot for @martinessimblr​’s Cottonwood Hills, much like Mirabello Plaza in Sunset Valley. Actually, this build fits perfectly into that lot, if you want to use it in a Sunset Valley makeover of your own!

Notes:

The grocery store RH used on this lot requires the Ambitions EP, and the bookstore / spa RH requires the Aurora Skies store world. However, the lot includes “playable” shops with both a book register and a food register, so if you don’t have either Ambitions or Aurora Skies, but do have World Adventures, this lot will still be perfectly playable with a few adjustments to compensate for the loss of the RH “buildings”. (I have tested the food register, at least, and can confirm that it is possible to buy everything from there that you might buy from the grocery rabbithole.)

The laundromat lot designation also requires the Ambitions EP, but if I’m not mistaken, you can still have washing machines and laundry with the University Life EP (or if you purchase laundry items from the Store, that works too).

I have listed some individual items that are from EPs and SPs, when I thought they might be easy to mistake for CC items. I have also listed all Store content, where identifiable.

In lieu of the cute wall poster (update: FOUND! thanks to a tip-off from a wonderful anon), I like to use one of the E. Drooker posters (of cover art he did for The New Yorker) made by Zx-ta. Her artwork and rugs look wonderful in-game, and have really come in useful for themed community lots, especially when I prefer something that uses Simlish for text rather than English. The “Vintage Book Covers” series by BooBoo (part 1 here and part 2 here) is another choice for thematically appropriate wall art.

I also found a good replacement for the cat painting: there are many small oval paintings out there, even ones that use the same mesh, but my favorite of them so far is this oval painting by The Love of Pixels (MS3B link: her blog seems to be gone, but for now the link is still accessible through archive.org). There is also this similar set by BiffySims.

As for the book clutter items and missing rug, I am not too bothered by their lack... for the very simple reason that there are a TON of book clutter and rug items out there that I could use in the place of the missing items, even after weeding out the lower-quality ones. Just use your favorites for now (though if you happen to know for sure which ones I’m missing, I’d appreciate very much if you let me know, even if it IS just for reference’s sake).

CC from Karas Watching Society (the books on the sale tables and on the bookcase indoors) does not show up in my game as placed, for some reason. You will have to place the two book items used on this lot manually.

For some reason, when using any of the festival trestle tables by @aroundthesims Sandy, all objects placed on top of the table will end up on the floor when you place the lot. I have talked to Sandy, who says that all of her creations were fixed for the Pets patch ages ago, and I myself have confirmed that the problem does not happen in any other build. It only seems to happen in the lots Martine made for Cottonwood Hills. Good news: applying a a manual rigfix (as explained in this MTS thread) to the problem items seems to solve the issue, and will not interfere with the functioning of the item in any other builds either.

Grocery:

I was actually able to find most of the patterns and walls used in this lot, but the wall and floor textures in the grocery store remain unidentified. I would recommend using CTRL+click with the recolor tool to “update” the walls, and just replacing the floor with the tile floor of your choice (the base game tile floors appear indistinguishable from whatever floor Martine actually used).

Some of the drink decor used in the grocery was made to function as custom drinks (using the functionality of the World Adventures EP). As the lot currently is, they are used as decoration only, but I imagine one could “buy” the drinks using Ani’s Shop from Inventory mod (download from here if at all possible, as the actual up-to-date Ani mods are now hosted at NRaas) and maybe with a simple script class change of the 4x bottle meshes to act as chests. I have not tried this for myself! This is merely a suggested method of playing.

Laundromat:

Absolutely every part of this sub-lot has been identified, which is a first for this project! Even so, I still very much appreciate tip-offs if you know something I don’t, or any links are broken.

The deco-only register was used because a register is not needed to create a functional, playable laundromat. However, if you really feel you need a bored, gum-chewing cashier clerk to appear in your local laundromat, there is always the Custom Generic Role mod by Arsil @MTS.
