they’ve been a special interest of mine for about ? two years now maybe? my dads a really big music nerd so i’ve always loved things with interesting time signatures and things you can just. Tell are so hard to play. that being said i am NOT a musician, i like to sing but that is sorta it, but i cant help trying to tap along to the tempo even though i have No clue what it is. their songs are just so easy to get lost in and have so much to say…. fuck i love tool dude

that is a HARD question but there are a few that immediately come to mind . i’ll only share 3 bc i have a lot of thoughts

- culling voices. GAWD DUDE ITS SO GOOD. i really wish maynard sang like that more, honestly. it’s so? i don’t know, haunting? in a beautiful way. i didn’t know he could play the piano until i hear this one. i only listened to it the first time about a month ago but its been on repeat ever since

- ænema , it used to be my favorite song of all time and was for a good while before i first heard the last one, i like it’s message, and i like how he delivers it. but the reason it was my all time fav was because of verse 5, its well into the song but the build up is so good. it is so so so so so beautiful

- right in two. just look up the lyrics and readthem theyre so so so sos sosososososooso good. i lovelovelove the idea of angels looking down at us in amusement, more confused than judgmental as we animals are using the intelligence and free will that father entrusted us with to destroy each other. i’m not religious in anyway, but if you know me you know i adore angels and biblical themes. it gets me everytime

Recently I remembered Fear Inoculum and how a I was having my lunch break with my coworkers turned friends a day before the single released and because it was leaked somewhere my friend - with whom I regularly talked about music because of our (back then) shared obsession with the Chili Peppers - was really excited to show the track to me. Rightfully so, because I became so obsessed with it afterwards and I think that I must've listened to the whole album when it was released later, but listening to it some weeks ago felt like I was hearing some songs for the first time so maybe I actually didn't. But the whole time I was listening to it I was thinking "Holy shit this is good but I'm so glad I didn't get into Tool when I was younger, I would've been so insufferable." (I still don't know too much of their albums apart from Fear Inoculum and a couple other songs.)

Speaking of playlists (nobody was speaking of playlists, bear with me), I've been mentally batting around the idea of making a playlist divided into sections for each of the major characters Bill's gonna have a significant social relationship with over the course of the fic.

However, doing this is a terrible idea, because Robbie's section of the playlist would instantly be 20x longer than the rest of the playlist combined. Because he primarily listens to metal and emo and goddammit so do I.

(Granted I think his metal preferences are probably a bit more, uhhh... typical? mainstream? than mine? I imagine him as more Korn and System Of A Down, with a bit of Tool when he wants people to know how sophisticated his tastes are, while I'm meandering past them to Nightwish, Powerwolf, or Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. Listen I'm a sucker for choirs and orchestras in my metal, and also demons. ... But like, I also listen to Korn and SOAD and Tool, so.)

I was telling my sister how I didn’t really care for tool’s fear inoculum.. well I do it’s a great album but obviously it doesn’t compare to the first 4 but anyways. the entire time I’m doing that (while listening to the cd) every track I’m going ‘oh actually I really love this one’ 😭😭😭 and I do that until I realize that I actually do care for it very much . LOL
