So...tooltips and NVL mode, huh.
man. i spent the entire day trying to make the tooltips for TDW work cause 1, i couldn't find actual examples anywhere and 2, I wanted to use them in the final chapter of LtGBtK as well………only to remember that NVL mode is a headache and the choices for it are located somewhere else in the code.
anyway, if you're coding in renpy and are looking for a way to make your tooltips function with NVL mode, like so:
then feel free to use my code as an example. here it goes! this piece of code goes into your screens.rpy, inside your screen nvl(): and then, to add a tooltip in the choice menu, all you need is to add the tooltip thing in the choice itself:
menu:
"Choice 01." (tooltip = "text of your tooltip here"): "blah blah blah"
"Choice 02." (tooltip = "text of your tooltip here"): "blah blah blah"
so simple ♥ so i-spent-the-whole-day-in-this ♥ and that's it ♥♥♥ hopefully, this will help someone one day.

One thing in the Ruin DLC that I don’t see a lot of other people talking about, that hit allll my creepy buttons, is the fact that every once in awhile, the objective tool tip text on the pause menu will, um, stop being a regular UI tool tip that explains what you’re suppose to be doing, and... get very chatty-
Also leads to THIS, not so much creepy, but interesting little thinker tidbit:
Whoever Cassie’s dad is, he seems to be important enough that Cassie got to demo attractions that weren’t finished and released to the public... Or our girl’s got some false memories going on.

seeing people claim that lucanis is 'bad representation' is hilarious to me because in so many ways he's really the closest anything has ever gotten to capturing my own personal experience. sorry for being bad real life queer and mental health/neurodiversity representation folks 😔 I'll take time to reflect and do some work on myself and try to do better in the future

If there is one thing I would beg of people with regard to AO3 it's to actually read the tooltips and FAQ about what tags mean before confidently declaring "I use it to mean..."
like there is actually a right answer and a wrong answer sometimes and the information is provided for you on the site.
#every once in a while one of my ao3 posts gets notes again and i'm reminded of how many people simply ignore the tooltips#and then act like the information readily provided there is some big fandom secret#ao3

I’ve been slowly working thru Dawntrail side quests and I did one last night called “once a riddler, now a ruler” in Tuliyollal. And it’s an attendant who gives you a riddle for a treasure hunt that Koana originally wrote for Wuk Lamat when they were kids 😭😭😭

The clues weren’t hard and at the end of the quest you find this

And then when you bring it back to the attendant

you know what would be fun?
A puzzle game where you're given a bunch of different objects, magazines, books, food labels, et cetera, all with a made up language on them. Then, with just the objects you're given, you have to decipher how to read the conlang your only clues come from the pictures and contents of the items
say for example, the game gives you two cans they're different brands, but two of the words on the front of them match the game lets you open the cans, and inside you find that both are filled with tomato soup ergo, you can conclude that the shared words mean "tomato soup"
then you can take another can, this one only shares one word and is filled with vegetable soup. Therefore, that single word that all three cans share must mean "soup" and by process of elimination the other word means "tomato"
and the idea is you keep doing this with different words till you can fully translate everything
#ideas#game ideas#a few of the beginner objects it might give you could be children's books and flashcards and food items with simple labels#like say there's salt and pepper shakers that are labeled#to make it easier on the player#maybe there's a system that lets you connect one of the made up words with a real word an object or a picture#and if you match them correctly it translates the word on all the in game objects#so like for the tomato soup cans#you could click the shared word on the can label then connect it to the soup in the cans#and after you do that the word will get translated on the label#I guess it would depend on how complex the conlang is#maybe you can select the word and then it'll bring up a tooltip with the translation if you've already discovered it#I say all this as if I actually have the programming knowledge to actually make something like this (I do not)

If I had to guess, I would say Veilguard's target audience is preteens who have never played a Dragon Age game before, which is certainly a choice

I swear, sometimes I'm glad I watch prog videos before going in to do it myself, because I get so nervous going in to a new fight, only to be reminded a LOT of prog is going immediately from
