Jack Hughes Imagine
Tumblr media
summary: a day on the lake with the hughes'. Jack hughes x fem!oc
warnings: fluff.... overwhelming fluff
"Baby wake up," Jack whispered in her ear as the morning light came in through the open blinds in their room. Lexi and Jack had flown in for one last summer lake day after spending Jack's off season in Toronto for training. The couple had arrived just in time for dinner the night before, catching up with Jim, Ellen, Quinn and Luke.
The first day of the long labor day weekend was today, and all the Hughes' friends had arrived first thing in the morning. The boys had decided to take the boat out as soon as the group was gathered to kick off the weekend.
"Jack it's still dark out," Lexi whined as she buried her head in her pillow. Jack straddled her back with a smile, letting his fingers caress her ribs and dig in to tickle her. The red head immediately tried bucking her boyfriend off with no luck. After getting a laugh in, Jack climbed off of her as Lexi finally sat up in bed.
"C'mon, get ready," he leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to her lips. "We want to get out on the water."
Lexi groaned but got out of bed, heading in to the bathroom to get ready. She threw on a bikini and some sun screen before grabbing one of Jack's shirts as a cover up and heading downstairs. Ellen was in the kitchen making snacks and lunch, while the boys were getting the boats ready and packing coolers.
"Good morning sweetie," Ellen beamed at the red head as she came into the kitchen, offering the blonde a hug from behind.
"Morning mama Hughes," Lexi smiled. "What can I help with?" The two women were quickly able to finish up their lunches and snacks by the time the boys came in telling them everything was ready.
The boys grabbed the remaining cooler bags, while Ellen and Lexi grabbed the bags with towels and sunscreen before heading out back. Lexi immediately hopped in the boat with Quinn and Jack, the three joined by Ellen and Jim. Luke and his buddies were on the second boat the family kept at the house, and Lexi felt glad she missed that call as the boys began blaring music and starting to shot gun beers.
"Oh to be young again," Jim said with a laugh as Quinn rolled his eyes and got the boat into gear, heading out onto the lake. With it being labor day, there were plenty of neighbors on the water. The group all waved as they passed other boaters, before stopping at an anchor spot they had found at the beginning of the summer.
Quinn held the boat steady as Luke and the boys began to get ready to wake board. Lexi went to grab her float out of the storage chest under one of the seats, handing it off to Quinn to inflate as she grabbed Ellen's as well.
This was Lexi's heaven, the girl thought as she weaved her hand through the water. Her and Ellen were sat in little floats attached to the boat, drinks in hand as the boys wake boarded a 100 yards away. Jim and Quinn were chilling with them, listening to music as they watched Luke whip the boys around the Lake.
Jack was up, and Lexi cheered dutifully as the boy shot gunned a beer while skiing, before being flung off by a cackling Luke. The middle Hughes brother waved Luke off as he went to turn the boat around, swimming over to where his mom and Lexi were likely gossiping.
"How are my girls?" Jack called out as he paddled towards the women, ending up leaning his head on Lexi's float as the two of them smiled at the boy.
"Living the life babe," Lexi ran her fingers through his hair with a smile. "Just telling your mom to go ahead and let us know her plans to come out to games this season."
"You know you're welcome to them all mom," Jack and Lexi nodded. "And now that we're in a new apartment, you can have your own space in Luke's apartment or ours."
"You guys are so sweet," Ellen stared at the couple with a soft smile. She never could have imagined two years ago that her wild middle boy would be this settled down, but Lexi had been so good for him. And knowing the words her son had spoken to her on the deck the night before, she knew he planned to keep her around forever.
"We love having you in town," Lexi said with a grin. "It's helpful to have another set of hands keeping two of the three Hughes boys out of trouble."
"You're stuck with that job forever baby," Jack laughed. "With your luck, we'll have all boys and you'll be just like mom."
"That would be terrifying," Lexi exaggerated a shiver, sharing a laugh with Ellen. "Not a bad way to be though, look how you guys turned out."
"Sap," Jack murmured as he leaned in to kiss her leg, before pushing off and paddling back to the boat. The group spent another two hours on the water before heading back to the house as the water started going down.
Lexi offered to shower first and then start dinner, Jack joining her in the prep duty. As the others all got cleaned up, the couple began to prep meat and vegetables for the grill. Lexi had turned on some music, swaying her body back and forth as Taylor Swift came over the speakers.
"C'mere," Jack grabbed her hand as Enchanted began to play, wrapping the girl in his arms and beginning to sway her back and forth. Lexi smiled softly, resting her forehead on his neck as Jack softly sang the chorus to her.
Neither noticed when Jim and Ellen came to the kitchen door, Ellen stopping her husband with a smile as she saw the two slow dancing. "She's going to be our daughter one day huh?" Jim asked with a little smile as he put his arm around Ellen's shoulder.
"She already is," Ellen beamed as she pushed Jim back towards the deck door, deciding to let the couple have a few more minutes.

elblue06 I knew Lexi was special, and it didn't take long for us to realize she was Jack's perfect match. I took this photo last summer, here at the lake, and Jim and I both knew Lexi would be our daughter one day. We're so excited for this new chapter, and can't wait to have another Hughes soon!

Should I tear my heart out now? Everything I feel returns to you somehow.
SEBASTIAN ‘BASH’ THIBODEAU
Age: 32 Gender and pronouns: Male, He/Him Occupation: Novelist Neighbourhood: Downtown
BIOGRAPHY
tw: parental neglect
By all rights, Sebastian Thibodeau should have been a victim of his own affluenza. Born in York Mills, an affluent suburb of Toronto, he was the child of foreign dignitaries and the grandson of a former Member of Parliament. The Thibodeau name meant something not just in Ontario, but in all the closed-door rooms of Canada politics. His father’s family had been timber folk, working in the lush and untamed wilds of the Yukon before striking gold and heading east. By all means, none of his living relatives could remember a life before the one they were living — one of immense privilege and lavish surroundings. But as things typically went, wealth and ease-of-access blinded his parents from parenthood — Bash was raised by nannies or his grandparents, but never by the two people whose sole responsibility it was to love and cherish him.
His childhood was tumultuous — constantly traveling around the world with his parents to their assignments, or once the responsibility of having him abroad was too great, sending him back to live with his father’s parents. Bash’s memories of his parents were mostly sitting at the top of the stairs as he watched his parents drink and smoke excessively, always cultivating lively parties of the most interesting people they could find.  By the time he was 10 he’d taken residence in fifteen different countries — Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Iraq, Laos… The list went on for miles by the time he was reading to ship off to university. The world was Sebastian’s oyster, and by a stroke of chance, he chose King’s College London over a world’s worth of top universities.
London seemed like an appropriate change of pace, not quite the foreign world he’d been trapped in, but so unfamiliar to his time in Toronto, either. Bash was set on being a literary major, having been an extensive journaler as a young man. His parents sent the occasional letter or cheque to validate themselves, and for Bash, that was more than fine. He made ample friends in school, he was charming and amiable enough, forcing himself out of his dorm even if he did prefer to have his nose in a book. And it was that very first week of freshman year that he met Nura — and it was through her that he experienced the sort of love that knocked him flat on his ass.
Nura was terribly bright, and for some reason, took a liking to Bash. There were feelings in the air almost immediately, but they remained friends until their second year, when Nura had come around to the inevitable. The similarities in their upbringings bound them together in an understanding only the two could share, and Bash trushed Nura with the deepest factions of his heart and mind. Their relationship was the sweetest love he’d ever known, and from that love flowed Bash’s muse, ending in his first novel being picked up by Penguin Random House only six months after they’d graduated from university. Nura worked on her Master’s and Bash paced their apartment, going over edits and sending revisions in to the publishing house. He proposed to Nura with his grandmother’s ring, confident that this relationship would go the distance.
Isn’t It Pretty to Think So landed and was a quick success, launching his career at just the same time that Nura planned to pursue her PhD in San Francisco. Initially, they’d agreed to do long distance. They’d succeeded once before when she’d studied abroad for a year, but this time around was evidently different. Without much explanation, Nura ended their engagement, promising Bash that there was nothing he could say to persuade her over her decision. Bash was, understandably, devastated.
He poured himself into his career, filling in as many tour stops as possible in promoting his career. Bash was quickly swept up into some celebrity of his own right, but couldn’t fill his day with enough activity to push Nura from his mind. She was always there, in the periphery, the odd text here or there allowing the pair to keep some sort of tacit track of one another. In their time apart, Bash wrote two more novels, both garnering acclaim but neither performing quite as well as his first. Netflix had approached him about optioning his first novel into a mini-series, but despite having sole authority over the casting of the titular character based on Nura, Bash couldn’t find a single actress who measured up to the image in his head of the woman he’d loved. At the insistence of his agent, Bash was to bury that particular ghost of his past, as his series was stalled and he hadn’t delivered a fresh chapter to his agent in a few years, it was high time Bash reignite his career or risk losing it altogether. And so he set out for Eureka, knowing this would fail to be the simple closure he was expected to make.

What If Alana Ended Up With Castiel?
Warning! One section of this chapter is NSFW!
Castiel Veilmont sat in his bedroom, bewildered as the realization of his own feelings came more into focus. Each bit of happiness he felt whenever she was near. The pain he felt when he had hurt her. The thoughts that came to mind when she stood before him in her short pajamas outside her apartment building. The extra amount of hatred he felt towards Nathaniel during the school play. Even her sister’s teasing made sense. “I’m in love with her.” He whispered to himself. Alas, it was too late. She had entered into a relationship with his sworn enemy. The very thought of harboring jealousy towards Nathaniel made his stomach turn. She was one of his best friends, she listened to him and showed him worlds that he had spent years being blind to... And she chose someone else. He thought of what he wanted to tell her, of how he wanted to show her his feelings, but as his thoughts turned more sensual, the reality that Nathaniel would be the one to touch her hit him. “She’s still my friend.” He choked. Castiel looked at his phone and smiled. His background was a picture of him, Lysander and Alana. “I have to get over this. She may never choose me. But I can’t let that end our friendship.” He muttered.
Alana’s mother was becoming sicker and sicker. The Roster Family wasn’t sure of what to do. There were a couple of hospitals that could properly treat her, but they were all out of the country. “I don’t know what’s going on! Her symptoms are a lot like aunt Cosima’s.” She wept. “Where are the hospitals located?” Castiel asked as they sat in Lynne’s apartment. “The closest one is in Glasgow. The best one is in Toronto.” She replied. “But, if she goes to Toronto, you’ll be all alone. Don’t you have family in Scotland?” He inquired. “Yeah. We’ve contacted my great aunt Sophie to see if that side of the family will take me in if we choose Glasgow. They live in a town not far from there.” She nodded. “That’s not too far away, I’m sure I could visit you, at least during summer or Christmas.” He smiled. “Really! That would be lovely! Alexy, Rosa and Armin are gonna stick to video chatting when they can. Nathaniel and I are gonna call each other every night too! But, having actual visitors would be amazing!” She cheered. “Ah, its a good thing you two were talking about that...” Nate began as he walked into the room. “Do you have an answer?” She asked with fear in her voice. “Your mother is being sent to Glasgow. Sophie has a spare room that you’ll be staying in while she recovers, and your cousins are already excited to have you. Oh, and you need to decide on which college you’ll be attending.” He explained. “Really! I won’t be alone! This is amazing! Plus, aunt Sophie is fun!” She cheered.
And just like that, Sam went off in to the Astarian military with Kentin and Alana was shipped off to Scotland with her mother.
Months had passed. Lynne’s and Alana’s time in Scotland had proven very productive. Carol Dubois was fired from being Lynne’s manager, and black listed by any organization related to the Roster family. Lynne’s condition had improved dramatically. Alana was even doing well in her studies. The time for her routine video call with Castiel had come, but on this day, she wasn’t in any mood to do much talking.
Castiel: “What’s wrong?” Alana: “Nathaniel and I broke up.” Castiel: “Seriously? What happened?” Alana: “The spark was no longer there. We decided it was better to be friends than lovers.” Castiel: “So, what are you gonna do now?” Alana: “Take some time to be by myself and eventually see about dating again.” Castiel: “Are you going to be okay?” Alana: -attempting to sound strong and hold back tears- “Yeah... Eventually.” Castiel: “Okay... But, if you need me, I’m here.” Alana: “Thank you Cass, that means a lot to me.”
When the conversation ended, Castiel’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly grabbed a notebook and began writing song lyrics.
“Today, we lay to rest, Sylvester Roster. He was a good cat. Always running around and keeping our Melody company. He did his best to be a fine mouser and was great at killing bugs that got into the house. He was a good cat and a great friend. Sylvester, you will be missed.” A woman with brown hair and green eyes who was wearing a black dress spoke. The family had gathered at a nearby pond to have the funeral. Everyone was dressed in black. “Thank you aunt Skye.” Alana blubbered as she stared at the cat’s lifeless body in the small wooden boat. It’s black and white tuxedo fur was dressed with a little bowtie around his neck. He laid on a bed of wild flowers and grass, accompanied by one of his favorite mouse toys. “Goodbye old friend. I’ll miss you! May we meet again one day.” Alana cried as she placed a white rose on top of Sylvester’s body. “Its going to be okay kiddo. I know you don’t wanna hear it right now, but it will.” A middle aged man with dark brown hair and hazel eyes put his hand on Alana’s shoulder when she stepped away from the boat. “You’re right uncle Rory... I don’t wanna hear it... But, I know you’re not wrong.” She wept. Rory gave the boat a light push. “Alright, Will, its time.” An older woman looked at one of the boys and nodded when the boat was a couple of feet away from shore. “Thank you aunt Sophie.” Alana looked at the older woman. A boy with light brown hair, pale skin and blue eyes held up a small bow and arrow, lit the arrowhead, raised it and fired. Within seconds, the boat was set ablaze. Rory held up his flute and played a mournful tune as the fire raged on and Alana cried.
That night, she tried to call Castiel, but he wouldn’t answer. “Please answer me.” She texted, begging him to respond. When he video called her, he looked a mess. Instantly, Alana set her concern for herself aside and worried for him. “Cass, what’s wrong?” She asked, through tears. He kept his eyes down. “How was the funeral?” He asked. “Tell me what’s wrong with you first. What happened?” She inquired, almost pleading. He looked at the screen, his eyes were dark and red, as if he had been crying. “Demon died today.” He choked.
Sam was on a video call with her sister. After Alana had finished explaining their mother’s condition, and updated her on how things were going with the family and her studies, Sam started asking her her usual questions. Especially ever since she and Nathaniel had broken up, Sam had begun asking her more and more about Castiel.
Alana: “Why do you keep asking about him?” Sam: “Because he has clearly been in love with you for years. Hell, his band is taking off and at least two of his most popular songs are about you.” Alana: “But, I thought he and I were just friends.” Sam: “Mels, you’re an idiot. When you were with Nathaniel, he was okay with being your friend. But, now you’re single... Maybe you can finally realize that he’s worth your time.” Alana: “But he can do much better than me...” Sam: “What if he doesn’t want to? Mels... I’ve known that he’s loved you ever since he stood outside our apartment building to ask for your forgiveness after the whole Deborah incident. I know you were focused on Nathaniel at the time, but when he saw you dancing with Nath, the pain in his eyes was extremely evident. Hell, at least three of the songs on the cd he gave you are love songs.” Alana: “I-I d-didn’t t-think of i-it like t-that...” Sam: “Look, I know you don’t wanna be in a relationship right now, but, please don’t string Castiel along for too long. He might be good for you... And, I know that, deep down, you do like him.”
When the phone call ended, Alana took the cd that Castiel had given her out and read over the lyrics to the songs that he wrote for her. Sam was right, at least two were love songs. The song “Out Of Reach” was the saddest on the list. “He likes me...” She gasped. Her thoughts turned to how she felt about him. It wasn’t as if she didn’t think of him romantically, or even sexually, at all. In fact, one of the first wet dreams she had had about boys she knew was about him. “Do I like him?” She thought. “Yeah, probably.” The little voice in her head replied. “Do I want to be with him?” She asked herself. “Most likely.” The voice answered.
★ “MELS! YOU HAVE A VISITOR!” Sophie called as Alana sat at her desk, working on her homework. Sophie was a slim, pale skinned, woman with bright red hair, green eyes and freckles. She often wore a blue and black tartan dress, and a white long sleeved undershirt. “Coming!” Alana called as she saved her work and descended the stairs. Standing before her was the man who she couldn’t get off of her mind. “Hey Alana.” Castiel smiled. “Cass!” Alana blurted out as she ran up to him and threw her arms around him. “Ah, I see Mels’ new boyfriend is here.” A girl smirked from the kitchen. “Freya, stop it.” Sophie scolded. Freya looked like a younger version of Sophie, except she had black hair and was wearing black skinny jeans, a My Chemical Romance shirt, multiple piercings in her ears, several rings on her fingers and black knee high lace up boots. “He’s not my boyfriend!” Alana blurted out, nervously. “At least, not yet.” The voice in her head chuckled. “Alana, you look different.” Castiel blurted out. He was right. Despite the fact that they continued to text daily and video chat every other day, she had made some changes over the year that she had been gone. Alana had reverted back to wearing glasses, and she had even gotten a couple of tattoos. The ones on her arms were floral designs that looked sligthly like roses. “Why didn’t you tell me you were gonna get those?” He asked, shocked. “I was gonna surprise you. I just got the ones on my arms yesterday.” She explained. “Sweetie, show him the one on your back! That one looks amazing!” Sophie cheered. “You have one on your back too?” He asked. “I was gonna surprise you with that one too... But, yeah.” She nodded as she took the spaghetti strap and bra strap off of her left shoulder and turned around. On her left shoulder blade was the Thunderbird from Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them with Sailor Pluto’s Garnet Rod from Sailor Moon. “I never thought you’d be the type to get ink. You look good.” He smirked. “I see you got more on your arms.” She pointed out. “Yeah. I still want more.” He replied. “Of course you do.” She chuckled.
That night, the Roster Clan had three more visitors. “Mister Murdock, Miss Walters, Miss Castle, to what do we owe the pleasure?” Sophie asked, shocked as the trio entered her home. “Gather your family. Miss Melody needs to be present.” Charlie ordered. “Lynne is still in the hospital recovering.” Sophie stated. “Which is why Miss Melody needs to be present. As the de facto head of the Roster Clan, she is entitled to the information we have, and is the one who has final say over what is done next.” Miss Castle stated. Charlie Murdock was a thin man with pale skin, short combed brown hair and dark eyes. He often wore a black suit with a red tie, and a pair of glasses with crimson lenses in his jacket pocket. Tatiana Walters was a slim, but muscular woman with fair skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes. She often wore a black suit with a green tie. Jessica Castle was a short, muscular, woman with peach colored skin, black hair, and purple eyes. Her outfit of choice was often a black suit, purple tie, and a Punisher pin on her lapel. “But, what could be so bad that you three need to speak directly to her? She’s just a young girl. She needs to be allowed to have her fun before she’s completely thrust into the role of our family’s head.” Sophie sounded worried as she spoke. “Its bad enough for us all to require the input of the head of the family before we move forward. Now, please, assemble the family.” Tatiana requested.
Several minutes later, every member of that section of the Roster Clan, and Castiel gathered in Sophie’s living room. “Is it okay for an outsider to hear this information?” Tatiana asked. “Whatever you three have to say can be said in front of Castiel.” Alana stated. “Are you sure?” Castiel asked. “Yes. If all three of them are here, then its something very serious... And, having you here will definitely help me stay calm.” She replied. “Okay.” He tried to smile. “Now, everyone, I’m sure you all are wondering why we have gathered you here. We have made several revelations that must be shared with you all. We request that you all remain silent until we are done speaking.” Tatiana began. “First of all, the illness that Lynne is experiencing is the same disease that killed Cosima Chevalier and is currently affecting both Viktor and Edgard Chevalier.” Charlie explained. “Secondly, we have concluded that it is not a natural disease, but the result of a certain poison in their systems. I’m sorry that we went around you, Melody, but we got Nate’s and Sam’s permission to test your mother. Which is how we have concluded that it is the same poison that was used on the Chevalier family.” Tatiana explained. “Thirdly, we believe that since Lynne was a target, that both of her daughters are targets as well. Sam has already consented to getting tested for this specific poison. We’d like to have Melody tested. If that’s okay with you, Melody.” Charlie added. “Why would someone want to poison Alana, Sam and their mom?” Castiel asked. Alana looked at Jessica, curiously. “You’ve been rather quiet Miss Castle. Care to share your thoughts?” She requested. “We know who wants the Chevalier line and your branch of the Roster line wiped out. For the Chevalier line, he has been committing the act himself. For the Roster line, he’s been paying an accomplice to do his dirty work.” Jessica stated. “Who?” Alana probed as she grabbed Castiel’s hand. Castiel looked at Alana, worried. “Achille Mekina.” Jessica replied. Almost everyone in the room gasped. Alana’s grip on Castiel’s hand became tighter. “Why would Verity’s husband want Cosima, Edgard, Viktor, Lynne, Sam and Mels dead?” Sophie trembled. “Because we’re all in the way of his desires. Our family is not formally classified as “aristocracy”, yet we are old and we have a certain amount of power to our name. He can’t completely destroy the family because we even have a coat of arms, and we’re spread out throughout the world. Mom emboldened both Cosima and Verity. Her freedom and desires made them both more confident. Cosima’s fiery nature is what made Edgard fall in love with her. While she was alive, he was more okay with Viktor growing up more normally. Since her death, Edgard has fallen in line with the aristocracy and forced Viktor to do so. Achille married into the Mekina family. He convinced Verity’s father, Cyrus, to give him Verity’s hand in marriage and demanded that she kill her free spirit. He’s demanded quiet obedience from both Verity and Severina. But, as he can’t completely stop either of them from associating with our family, he knows that they disobey him when he’s not around. Mom, Sam and I are the definition of what he hates in this world and we encourage his wife and daughter to be their true selves.” Alana explained. “Not to mention, as Edgard’s business partner, if Edgard and Viktor die, their company completely defaults to Achille.” Charlie added. “But Melody! You’re the most “obedient” of the main line of our family, how could you be a target?” Freya asked. Suddenly, a realization hit Alana’s mind like a tsunami and she tightened her grip on Castiel’s hand. “Jessica, has your team figured out who Achille’s accomplice is?” She asked as her voice wavered. “Yes we have.” Jessica nodded. “Who is it?” Sophie asked. “Achille Mekina was paying Carol Dubois to slip Lynne the poison. Verity helped us obtain the recordings from his office. He was promising her a high position in his group if she helped him as well.” Jessica answered. “I FUCKING KNEW IT!” Alana blurted out. “Abusing Sam and me wasn’t enough! Hiding her abuse from mom wasn’t enough! Attempting to use mom and me to get closer to the aristocracy was never enough!” She continued. Tears had come to her eyes and her voice was failing to maintain strength. Castiel let go of her hand and put his arm around her. “We have a lot of proof against both of them. We just need to test you, get Verity divorced, make sure your mother, Viktor and Edgard are healthy enough to testify against them, and submit the evidence in a proper court. We should be able to put them both in prison for the rest of their lives. But, it will take time.” Charlie assured.
When everyone had gone to bed, Castiel stayed in Alana’s room and held her as she cried herself to sleep. He knew that he only had a week to stay with her, but he didn’t want to leave her side at all. When his phone rang, he did his best to stay quiet. “Look, Leo, I will be back in a week. Zach doesn’t have to worry about it. But, right now, someone I care about is going through a really hard time and I need to focus on her.” He whispered. “Is it that girl you’ve written those songs about?” The girl on the other end of the phone asked. Castiel looked at Alana, lovingly. “Yes. It is.” He replied. “I figured. Zach was complaining that you left the country on a whim... But, if its for her, I understand it. She must be very special.” Leo chuckled. Alana squirmed in her sleep for a couple of seconds. “She is.” He smiled.
After Lynne had gotten completely better and the legal teams had plunged into the depths of the process to prosecute and convict Achille Pechman and Carol Dubois, Alana applied to finish her degree at Anteros Academy. “Are you sure you wanna leave Scotland?” Sophie asked. “As much as I love it here and as much as I love you all, I wanna go back to Amouria. I miss my old friends.” Alana smiled. “And she probably wants to go home to her boyfriend!” Freya laughed. “And what if I do?!” Alana shot. “So, you’re admitting that Mister Veilmont is your boyfriend?” Sophie asked. “I mean... We’re not... I don’t know..” Alana babbled. “He might as well be.” The voice in her head piped up. “Where will you be staying when you get there?” Sophie inquired. “Agatha doesn’t live far from the college. She said that I can live there while I finish school.” Alana replied. “Have you told your rock star that you’re going home to him?” Freya inquired. “Not yet. His band is gaining in popularity, so he’s a bit more focused on that. I’ll tell him when I get settled.” Alana beamed.
“Welcome home, Alana!” Castiel cheered. “Its good to be back.” Alana mused as she held him close. They were standing in the middle of Agatha’s back yard. It was an oasis of trees, flowers, lights, and fairies. Romantic music had begun to play. He took her hands and lead her in a romantic slow dance. “Cass... There’s something I need to tell you...” She stuttered. “What?” He asked, concerned. She looked into his dark eyes and blushed. “I... I..” She began as she bit her lip. “Come on you idiot! Tell him!” The voice in her head ordered. “Is something wrong?” He asked. “Cass... I.. Oh fuck it.” She blurted out as she cupped his face in her hands, stood on her tip toes, leaned closer to him and placed her lips on his. His eyes widened and his heart began pounding even faster. He wrapped his arms around her back and deepened the kiss as her hands slid to wrap around his neck. Their tongues intertwined with heated desperation. It was as if they had finally found something they had been searching for for their entire lives and they wanted to enjoy every second of it. Each time their mouths separated, they crashed back into each other with more passion. When the passion became too much to handle, Castiel stood back from her to catch his breath. “Alana, please say it. I need to hear you say it.” He begged. She nodded and took a minute to calm down. When she gathered her thoughts, she looked at him with conviction. “I’m in love with you Castiel. I’ve wanted to admit it to you much sooner, but I didn’t want you to think that you were just a rebound after Nath and I broke up...” She proclaimed as she bit her lip. “Alana...” He couldn’t help but smile. She looked at him nervously. “Cass...” She muttered. “I’ve wanted to be with you for so long... Do you have any idea how relieved I am to know that you want to be with me? I could write an album.” He professed as tears came to his eyes.
A familiar tune reached Alana’s ears. The memory of her favorite Disney movie instantly hit her. “Let it roll right off your shoulder. Don’t you know? The hardest part is over.” Someone sang. She walked in the direction of the music and found Castiel sitting in Agatha’s garden. “You remember!” She beamed as he continued to sing. “Our lives are made in these small hours. These little wonders; These twists and turns of fate. Time falls away; But these small hours; These small hours, still remain...” When the chorus came around again, Alana began to sing along, harmonizing with him. While Castiel did his best to not take his focus from his playing, he couldn’t help but smile. As the song came to an end, they looked at each other lovingly. “I’m not a fan of Rob Thomas... But, when you told me about your love of Meet The Robinsons, I wanted to learn that song for you...” He blushed. “And to think... I thought it was sweet when you showed me that you know how to play “Hakuna Matata” at the beach.” She cooed.
The school papers came out and social media was blowing up. “Has Castiel Found Love?”, “Crowstorm Heartthrob Wooed By Roster Heiress!”, “Lynne Roster’s “Sweet Daughter” Clearly Likes Bad Boys!”, “So Much For Quiet Obedience From Melody Roster!”. Castiel looked at them mortified, while Alana sat back on his couch and laughed. “Cass! Listen to this! “The second the aristocratic eyes turn away from Lynne Roster’s little Melody, she goes hog wild! Sporting tattoos, and now a rock star boyfriend, it seems like she just won’t stop! Is this just a phase? Or is this wild style permanent?” If those assholes knew me at all, they’d know that that sweet bullshit was just an act!” She read. “Alana, are you sure this is okay with you? It isn’t okay with me.” He stated. “Its not about if its okay with me. They’re going to do this no matter what I want. Its my job to make my mark and let the world know that I don’t give a damn what they think and want. I am the leading lady of my own life and I’m going to enjoy it!” She boomed. “I don’t like what they’re saying about us.” He muttered. “Cass, they don’t know or care that you’ve written songs about me since before your band was formed. They don’t care that its not the truth. They want their headlines. Its like when they run up to us, taking their pictures. All you can do is raise your middle finger in the air, say “Fuck!” and make it to where they can’t make a quick buck off of your face.” She replied. He put his phone down, wrapped his arms around her and kissed her repeatedly. “That’s my girl.” He purred.
“I can’t believe you’re with Castiel now!” Nathaniel boomed as he paced around Agatha’s living room. “And I can’t believe you’re THIS upset about it!” Alana shot as she stood in the kitchen. “You and I break up and you immediately jump into his arms?!” He yelled. “I didn’t “immediately” jump into his arms! He was there for me! When you and I were together, he accepted his position as my friend and didn’t force himself on me! When you and I broke up, I wanted to be single for a while. I was single for a few YEARS before Cass and I got together! And, I’ll have you know, he was there for me during the darkest point in my life! Something YOU couldn’t even be bothered to talk to me about!” She explained. “I’m sorry I didn’t always want to talk about your mom being sick and how worried you were! I’m sorry I didn’t always wanna talk about how Scotland was!” He sassed. “My mom, sister and I were literally being poisoned in an elaborate attempt to wipe out an entire branch of our family! I tried to tell you about it! I TRIED to tell you about what I was doing as the de facto head of my family! I TRIED to tell you how school was going! But you didn’t wanna listen! When we were together, I TRIED to be there for you to the best of my ability! But, you didn’t wanna talk! It felt like I had to pry your teeth out just to get anything from you!” She retorted. Nathaniel’s eyes widened at the revelation. “I know that, unlike Cass, you couldn’t travel to see me. I was well aware of that! But the time difference was only a couple of hours! Not to mention, it wouldn’t have killed you to text me more! Castiel made time for me, even when we were JUST FRIENDS! He texted me, he video chatted with me, he visited me! He’d TALK to me! Hell, Armin, Alexy, Rosa and even Lysander TALKED to me! Cass didn’t make moves on me while I was in pain! At most, he held me the night I cried myself to sleep when we were told about Achille’s and Carol’s attempted assassinations!” She yelled. “But you wouldn’t know that, because while I was actually working and being there for her, you were in alley ways or in random girls’ beds.” Castiel growled as he entered the room. “Shut up Castiel!” Nathaniel snarled. “No, I will not stand for you talking to her like that!” Castiel narrowed his eyes and stood in front of Alana. “YOU.” Nathaniel adjusted his stance and readied his fists. “If we’re going to do this, we’re gonna do it outside.” Castiel ordered. “NEITHER OF YOU are going to do anything! Nathaniel, if you wanna talk to me, the LEAST you can do is be civil about it! I wasn’t lying when I said I still wanna be your friend. But, I will not tolerate being talked down to, or treated like a common whore! I will also remind you both that this is Agatha’s house! And I’d like to keep it nice! AM I CLEAR?!” Alana boomed. Nathaniel and Castiel looked at each other as if they were ready to start a war. “I SAID AM I CLEAR?!” Alana yelled. “Fine!” Nathaniel spat as he left the house. “Of course.” Castiel sighed as he calmed down.
NSFW!
The curtains in Castiel’s apartment were pulled and slow music played as he laid on his bed, completely naked. He had placed a condom and a bottle of water based lubricant on his bedside table before laying down. “Are you sure you want this?” He asked nervously. Alana had a devilish grin on her face as she threw her shirt on the ground, undid her belt, slid her pants down her legs, left them on the floor and revealed a set of black lace lingerie. “I’m sure, Castiel. I want this. I want you.” She cooed as she got on the bed and knelt down to his crotch. “Alana...” He sighed. The innocence on his face almost made Alana forget that he hadn’t been a virgin since before he was with Deborah. The sweetness in his eyes made something in her stir. “I love you Cass, and I want to show you how good you make me feel.” She smiled. Before Castiel could respond, she already had him in her mouth, licking and sucking each and every inch of his length. He couldn’t help but gasp at the sudden warmth of her mouth surrounding him as his hand gripped his sheets. She looked up at him and giggled. “That was cute.” She winked. Alana began peppering his length with kisses and licking the head. “Alana!” He quietly moaned. His breathing became heavier as he enjoyed every stroke and flick of her tongue. When his other hand had begun to grip the bed, she laid down and kissed him. “Do you want this?” She asked, sweetly. “Yes.” He nodded. “Good.” She smiled. Alana straddled his hips and brought her hands to the clasp of her bra. “Thank god I picked the set that hooks in the front!” She thought. With a quiet “CLICK!” the clasp was undone and her breasts were released from their lacy prison. She could feel his length pulsing against her panties as her core became wetter and wetter. “Alana, get on the bed.” He requested. “Okay.” She nodded as she obeyed.
As the night progressed, Castiel and Alana didn’t get much sleep. Castiel did his best to have his actions show how much he had been dreaming and longing to make love to her for several years. By the time the night ended, she had climaxed so many times that he had to carry her to the bathroom to get cleaned off. “I love you my sweet Melody.” He cooed when he laid her back in the bed. “I love you too my darling Cass.” She breathed as he laid down next to her.
The night of Graduation Day, Alana’s family wanted to have a party at Agatha’s, but Castiel had promised that Crowstorm would play at The Snake Room. “We can do the party another day!” She cheered as Sam, Ken, Viktor and Severina stood in the street with her parents, Verity and Castiel. “But Melody!” Lynne whined. “Come on, Lynne. Let the kids have fun tonight. We can have a big graduation party later.” Verity smiled. “And Castiel did promise the school he’d play. We don’t want him to break a promise like that.” Nate nodded. “As Mels’ best friend, I’d also like to formally welcome you to “The Crew”. You’re one of us now Castiel!” Severina mused.
Crowstorm took the stage as the club filled with the cheers of graduates and their guests. Alana and her group stood up front, celebrating. “Thank you all for coming! You know who we are. And today, we’re starting with our new song, “She’s Mine”.” Castiel announced as he started playing. The song was about how, after years of hoping, he had finally won the heart of the woman who was out of reach, and how he never wanted to let her go. When the song ended, Castiel held his hand out to Alana, brought her onstage and kissed her passionately. As they parted, Alana couldn’t help but smile. “You’re right, Castiel Veilmont. I am yours.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve wanted to write this “What If” story for a bit. It doesn’t showcase the entire relationship, as it mostly really just covers UL, because if I did the entire relationship, I’d have to write multiple chapters.
This effectively screws Alana, in the main timeline, over even more... As, in the main timeline, Glasgow isn’t even an option for her and Lynne to go when Lynne gets sick.
Charlie Murdock was inspired by Daredevil. Charlie Cox is the actor who plays him in the MCU. He was first described in “Power, Lies, and Desperation” and is the lead Roster Family lawyer. He is a thin man with pale skin, short combed brown hair and dark eyes. He often wore a black suit with a red tie, and a pair of glasses with crimson lenses in his jacket pocket.
Tatiana Walters was inspired by She Hulk. Tatiana Maslany plays her in the MCU. She is a slim, but muscular woman with fair skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes. She often wore a black suit with a green tie.
Jessica Castle was inspired by both Jessica Jones and Frank Castle (Punisher) from Marvel. She is a short, muscular, woman with peach colored skin, black hair, and purple eyes. Her outfit of choice was often a black suit, purple tie, and a Punisher pin on her lapel.
Pechman was chosen for Achille’s family name. It means “man with bad luck” and is of German origin. I did take a bit of inspiration from RWBY for his story. Like Jacques Schnee, Achille found a family that has more prestige and power and convinced the patriarch to let him marry his daughter. Unlike Willow Schnee, Verity doesn’t turn to alcohol while her husband wreaks havoc.
Sophie is one of Alana’s grandmother’s two little sisters. Skye is her daughter. Freya is Skye’s daughter. Rory is Skye’s brother. William is Rory’s son. Freya dyes her hair black.
I must admit, it was very weird to write Nathaniel like that... I’m so used to writing his and Alana’s love story that, writing him as her ex, felt wrong...
The scene involving Sylvester’s funeral was painful to write. I thought of when I lost my cat, Luna in 2014, and the funeral I would have like to have had for her.

Interlude - One Last Respite
...There's a sliver of happiness to be found.
It's all too easy to not realize how your goals shifted, throughout the years.
Passion.
The blonde-haired Master always did consider it such an odd, odd thing.
And perhaps not without good reason. For every step the young man took, before, was laced with necessity.
Every step on a journey of 'heroism' -- a tale he was not meant to understand, and a tale not meant to be told with him as the epicenter -- was one born of need.
The need to protect himself? The need to protect the few he held dear?
'...Because the rest of the world is...'
...
Why was he doing any of this?
It was a question that rang through his mind hundreds of times, even just as he stood in front of an oven -- idly watching bread raise, as he had for the past near-hour.
'...What is it I owe the world to be doing this?'
'Hell, do I need to owe anything to the world to do this?'
...No, that wasn't it, was it?
It was because --
'...I have to.'
'I have no other choice. There's not going to be a home for me to return to if I fail this.'
...Though, the blonde boy began to laugh at himself, saying that.
'...A home. Bullshit, isn't it?'
That house was no home. In Toronto, it was a cage -- a cage of his own making, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.
For the sake of his own sanity. For the sanity of his family, who had to watch a fuck-up like himself spiral downwards.
...So that couldn't be it.
He wasn't fighting to protect his home -- and he certainly wasn't fighting to go back.
'...Am I fighting for humanity, then?'
...
...The man laughed a little more, to himself.
Why the hell would he ever do that?
In recent memory, he couldn't recall a single time the collective 'humanity' had ever given him reason to save them. For as many innocent souls as there were, there would be equal parts the same brand of people who haunted him all throughout his hellish life.
The present state of humanity, he felt, wasn't worth saving.
...So why was he fighting?
...
...The oven timer beeped, as the baker opened his oven and gazed in. Met with a soft, familiar smell, he smiled -- though even at a glance, he could tell it wasn't done.
So, back in it went.
Setting the timer to wait just a little longer, the man was back to his own thoughts.
He wasn't unaware of the fact he was no hero.
Compared to Ritsuka, he was pretty far from the mold. Ritsuka wasn't a complicated person, after all -- they merely fought because they wanted to see others smile.
That was it. They merely liked 'seeing smiles.' There was no further gimmicks to that trend -- merely the ideal, with every further thought and action tying directly to that mere ideal of 'happiness.'
That was 'a hero.'
...So what was he?
...A few footsteps alerted him to another presence in the room.
"--Dear~."
...A voice like that -- soft in its tone, with a breathy pronunciation, could only ever truly belong to one person.
"...Tlazolteotl?"
"I keep telling you, dear, it's just Tlaz~! You're not going to offend me with the wrong name."
The 'seductive' tone faded into a gentle, earnest laugh -- the gentle sounds of clinking jewelry coming into earshot as the black-haired woman situated herself right next to the baker, leaning in to peep into the oven before leaning back once more.
"...Cade, dear, you... usually don't bake this late at night."
"Is it all that late?"
...Double checking his wristwatch, the Master furrowed his brow -- and let out an exasperated sigh.
'3:00 AM.'
...He knew he was having trouble - sleeping, and had been this way for some time.
It wasn't easy, sleeping, with so much pressure and stress. Nightmares came commonly -- of his loved ones dying. Himself dying. Being robbed blind and left in the dust, watching the happy life leave him behind --
-- hearing [whispers/screams/laughs] of something that [waited/bided/paces] for his arrival --
"...Is something wrong?"
"...Tlazotleotl, is --"
"--It's just Tlaz, y'know! --"
"-- Apologies... But -- is... is it alright if I asked you something?"
...The goddess furrowed her brow -- taking a moment to run her hand through her hair, fiddling with their pale green tips in thought.
"...Ask away."
...The boy breathed a sigh out far shakier than the last, his eyes first falling to the floor -- then, to the oven.
"...I've been -- doubting myself. Not about my own skills, but... Why I'm even here."
...He continued, slowly.
"...I don't have the same ties to humanity that Ritsuka does. I... don't have a reason to help the world. Aside from these few people that have actually been kind, I..."
...
"...I've been wondering if -- if I'm the right choice. If I've ever been the right choice."
...He would've kept going, if not for the hand that surprised him, resting on his shoulder - before the goddess stepped in front of him, and leaned in a little to make eye contact with the Master. (Being a deal above six feet made it a bit difficult to talk on 'even ground,' after all.)
"...Cadence, you've said it a few times -- that you dislike humanity. And yet you haven't tried to destroy it. Do you want my take as to why you're here, right now?"
"...I'm... curious. Could I hear it-?"
The goddess paused, thinking for a moment longer -- her eyes glancing behind her, to the oven, before she cupped the Master's face between her two hands.
"...Right now, humanity is a loaf of bread."
...
"...What?"
...The goddess' serious face faltered, into a silly grin, as she began to chuckle a bit -- but quickly snapped back into her poker face, trying (and only half-succeeding) at stifling the giggles.
"Bear with me, here. Baking takes a while, right? And humans are being baked right now. They're still... being made. Coming into their own as people."
...The goddess trailed off for a moment in thought, before she continued.
"They've made great progress now and then, and fell back some other times, too. But they're still growing, and becoming something better."
...The baker's eyes moved, just a moment, glancing down to the ground -- before returning to the goddess.
"...You're angry at the world. A lot of people are, and you have some damn good reason to be angry. You wouldn't be summoning Avengers if you weren't feeling like this."
"...But -- wouldn't that make me--?"
"...I don't think you've realized what's kept you here all this time, Cade. You're looking for a reason to believe in the world."
The goddess' tone eased, but grew more forceful -- as though trying to hammer her words home, with a hammer and a well-placed swing.
"Isn't there nothing left?! It's irredeemable, isn't it--?"
"Maybe you thought like that before. But things aren't like that anymore."
"You're looking for a reason for the world to improve. If you'd truly given up, your allies wouldn't be your allies -- and you certainly wouldn't be here."
The woman's face drew slightly closer to Cadence's -- the latter's eyes dropping to the ground.
"...Your allies all wish to change the world. Whether that means destroying it all, rebuilding it in a perfect way, or removing foul souls from the world, all of it involves change. To make the world better -- somehow."
"...Or to just destroy it."
"Because she was spited by that same world. And yet, even these Avengers listen to you -- despite that ever-burning urge to burn the world to cinders."
A flick to his forehead brought his gaze back up to meet her's.
"...So what do you believe, earnestly?"
...
"...I..."
...The man tried to think about it, as the goddess now moved slightly back -- to give him some much-needed room to do so.
...Surely, the world was irredeemable.
Surely, its thousands of horrible people weren't made up for by that slim percentage of decent people, yet --
'But they're still growing.'
Those words reverberated in the baker's mind.
Humanity, as it was, was horrible. Filled with irredeemable, loathsome people, who only hurt others.
Horrible thieves who stole just for kicks, and gravely injured all around them just for the hell of it.
'But they're getting better.'
...All of humanity, getting better, it surely sounded odd to him, yet --
...Every Servant he had met proposed their ideas of a perfect world.
Gorgon desired to merely burn it all down, and perhaps even start from scratch.
Tlazolteotl wished to garner vengeance from those very same gods who hurt her -- believing the best world was one where Gods were the role models they had to be.
Morgan wished to regain control of Britain and expand it to become a better, stronger kingdom.
Kagekiyo wished to eliminate those 'genji' that still harmed the people around.
All were, to put it lightly -- brutal, harsh means of change.
And yet... He found himself sympathizing with them.
They were possible. With their strength -- they could get it done.
Because the world still wasn't 'complete.' There was still progress and effort to be made. There was still a chance for the 'good' of Humanity to take back control in that hellish world.
There was ultimately still a chance.
Even if it took force, the world still had a chance of getting better.
'...And is that... why..?'
Because the chances of him living happily were far better in a world where humanity could change -- than in a world where humanity never got the chance to.
'...But...'
...Because the chances of his loved ones achieving their goals were far better in a world where humanity could change -- than one where humanity never got the chance.
Because the chances of someone else suffering as he did were better in a world where humanity could change -- than one where humanity never got the chance.
He didn't have the right to judge the entire world off of his own rage. Humans were 'human,' and could change with time. They could get better -- like a loaf of bread that rises in an oven.
'...Perhaps,' he mused, 'the fact I've come to that conclusion is proof of that.'
'...I have to wonder if I'd have an answer like this, if I were asked back in Fuyuki.'
...The goddess raised an eyebrow, as Cadence finally opened his mouth.
"...I believe in your abilities to make things better."
"The chances of my... No -- of our happiness are slim. Even when we do return to a normal Earth, the chances of things going well are slim."
...The goddess furrowed her brow, but Cadence didn't trail off this time.
"But they're better than they would be if I gave up."
"...The world's a shit place, and I don't want to return to it as it is. But it's not static, either -- and the smallest of changes can alter the course of everything."
The boy paused, stammering over his words.
"...The chances of a happy ending for all of us -- and the improvement of the world, so we don't need to be terrified... It gets... better, if we do this."
"I want the chance of living a better life. I want the chance of everyone here living happier lives, and - while it's almost impossible even when we are fighting, it's completely impossible if I give up."
...
"I don't have another choice. But --"
...The goddess silently listened, as her Master's gaze softened.
"...This is the choice I think I want to make, anyways."
...The oven timer went off, just as he spoke -- his concentration breaking as he rushed over, the goddess hopping to one side to let him check on it.
"...By the way," the goddess noted -- "I actually think I'm more of a muffin than a loaf of bread."
"Well, humanity's the bread, so of course you'd be a muffin," the baker responded. "You're sweeter like that."
"Don't make me blush, now, Cade~."
"It takes a lot of sweetness to lay things out for me, like that."
The Master stuck a thermometer into the loaf, double checking its internals to ensure it was solid -- and not still sticky or the like.
"...So, what's it at? Can we get it out? Let it cool?"
Tlazolteotl's curious questions caused a smile to dance across the baker's face, as he pulled the thermometer from the loaf -- noting some bits that stuck to the sharpened edge that had shivers forming down his spine.
"...N-No, not yet. It'll need a bit longer."
...
"...But it's almost there. Just a little longer, and -- I'm sure it'll be even better than last time."
"I'm sure of that much. Just like you were, Tlaz."

2021 (AU)
A/N: Got a bit wine tipsy & wrote a teeny story! It’s a bit different from what I’ve written before, so I hope you all enjoy!! Would love to hear your thoughts!! Was thinking of making it a little series, so!!! Happy 2021! I hope this year (so far) has been kind to you !  💥💞
Prompt: One-sided enemies to lovers (kinda) & No dialogue
MASTERLIST | LET’S CHAT 🥂
Warnings: One swear word // WC: 2.6K // Angst & Fluff
He stared at you.
No, he glowered at you.
He couldn’t stand to be in the same room as you anymore. He’s been with you for as long as he could remember; from elementary school, middle school, high school…He was always a shadow in the room whenever you were in it. Always had been. Always will be.
His earliest memories included you scoring the top grades in school, teacher’s favorite student, handed in every assignment early, and you would always be picked first for a team in recess and gym class. He always resented you more for the latter. Ever since his best friend, Brian, picked you first for his kickball team in elementary school and not him…He ripped the title of best friend away from Brian.
Shawn Mendes hated you.
And he was fairly certain that you reciprocated the same feelings of hatred towards him.
In high school, Shawn studied day and night, turning down countless offers to parties because he was determined to receive the valedictorian title. Looking back on it now, five years since the high school became his alma mater, Shawn was still hung up over the fact that you stole his position of the highest education honor in high school.
He had the perfect farewell speech prepared for graduation. It was the perfect blend of a look how far we’ve come since freshman year speech and a see you later speech. Shawn was fairly close to the dean of student’s secretary and they may have tipped him off that he––more than likely––would be the valedictorian. So, his mother already had a copy of the speech framed and hung in the family room, next to his senior portraits, before the school year even ended.
Shawn finished the year with an exceptional GPA of 4.7.
But you…You finished the year with a slightly higher GPA of 4.8.
The feeling Shawn felt in the pit of his stomach was hard to pinpoint when he found out he was not valedictorian. Enraged didn’t feel like a strong enough feeling. Frustrated seemed like an adjective too soft to describe his disappointment. But the one feeling he could trace back as the reason for his clenched fists, locked jaw, and blinding vision of rage was resentment.
He remembers when the school sent out a congratulatory email to the top 10% of the graduating class. He expected to see Shawn Mendes as the name written on the top of the list. But instead, he saw your name on the top line, and his name at #2.
Shawn had even planned for his graduation party to be on the same day that the valedictorian announcement was made. He wanted to celebrate his achievements with his family and friends because he expected to have the title. He stayed up in his room for nearly an hour at his own graduation party to calm down his rage.
Maybe if he pushed himself a little harder, then maybe he would’ve beaten you out for the top spot.
Shawn Mendes detested you.
After all the years he spent with you––all the way from elementary to high school––he finally felt free after he was handed his high school diploma and shook the principal’s hand. He was leaving the small town of Pickering and attending university in Toronto where he would never have to see you again.
But Shawn wasn’t that lucky.
Because during an orientation session, a week before the first day of classes, he saw you walk on campus with your own orientation group. No amount of breathing exercises could calm him down. All he saw was red. And worst of all, you caught his blatant glare and offered him a small wave.
He ignored you, turned his head back to his group, and tried to engage in the ice breaker conversation.
Luckily, he only saw you a handful of times a semester. He had a different major than you; and always let out a sigh of relief when he walked into a general education class and saw you nowhere in attendance. It would’ve been ideal if he didn’t have to spend another four years with you, but he didn’t see you as much as he did in high school.
Until it came to senior year when you two both landed an internship at the same company.
Shawn thought he was in his own personal hell when he saw you in the lobby, on the first day, chatting with the other interns. He didn’t know what he did in a past life to deserve this kind of torture, but he would repent for the rest of his life to make sure it didn’t happen again. Thankfully, he was interning in a different department than you. But word somehow always got back to him about how wonderful every supervisor thought you were.
When he finally received his university diploma, that was the day he felt truly free. He was done with school, done with his internship––Done with you. He drank a little too much in celebration that night. He drank to never having to see you again and drank to celebrate the job offer his internship offered him.
He didn’t have to worry about either you or trying to find a job as a new university graduate.
So when he showed up to the place where he was now an employee––dressed in a new suit––his smile disappeared when he walked out of the elevator and saw you. He tripped over his own two feet, spilling some coffee on his coat.
Shawn, I’d like you to meet the other new hire––I believe you interned with her.
In the lobby of his first job was where he silently apologized to any God he had ever offended. If this was punishment for missing Church for the past seven years, he begged for forgiveness. If this was punishment for getting into a fight during one of his hockey games, he begged for forgiveness. He begged for forgiveness, but he didn't think he’d be pardoned any time soon.
Because in his new office space, at his first real job, he was only three desks away from you.
/ / /
You stared at him.
No, you gazed at him.
You absolutely loved being in the same room as him. You’ve been with him for as long as you could remember, and you wouldn’t want to have it any other way. From elementary school all the way through the wonderful years of high school. You always saw yourself as being academically equally to him. Although admittedly, you thought he was better than you.
A memory with him that was stuck in your mind was one from elementary school; you were nine and it was gym class. Brian had enlightened you that Shawn liked girls who could run fast. And after learning that bit of information, you convinced Brian to pick you first so that way Shawn would notice how fast you could run. So, Brian picked you to be on his team first…Not Shawn.
But after that day, Shawn stopped talking to Brian. And Brian came crying to your nine-year-old self while you were at the arts and crafts table saying that Shawn was ignoring him.
You had a little crush on Shawn Mendes.
But you weren’t all that positive that Shawn reciprocated those same feelings of giddiness you felt whenever you saw him on the playground.
In your eyes, you were one and the same with ambitions. School never came easy to you; so, studying for absolutely every subject was a chore. But you knew how smart he was, and you wanted him to think you were smart too. Along with studying, you buttered up to the teachers so that they would give you the benefit of the doubt and round that A grade––that was nearly an A+––to be an A+.
You knew he used similar tactics, but he wasn’t as obvious as you.
While you made studying a priority in high school, one of your friends mentioned that Shawn liked outgoing girls. So, you turned down some study sessions, and went out on either Friday or Saturday nights––sometimes both––in hopes you could strike up a conversation with Shawn. But you rarely saw him at the parties you attended.
And even five years after you graduated highschool, you were still hung up about not spotting him at more parties.
You had all the right words to say if you ever bumped into Shawn at a party. You had it all prepared, and even went as far as practicing in front of a mirror more times than necessary. Stored away in your mind was an endless list of topics you could talk to him about. You knew he played hockey, so you made a note to ask him about his games. And you were tipped off by a friend that Shawn liked when people complimented his ability to play guitar.
Granted, you had never heard him play guitar, but you were still prepared to praise him. You would’ve felt proud of yourself for stepping out of your comfort zone to talk to the boy who made you shiver with a pleasant bundle of nerves.
Shawn was a smart person. If you remembered correctly, he was the smartest person in school. You always admired his ability to keep up with his course load, play hockey, and balance out a well-planned social life. A little bird flying around the halls whispered that Shawn found smart and well-driven girls attractive. So you worked harder than you ever had in your life to miraculously pull your grades up higher.
You finished with a well deserved 4.8 GPA.
Shawn finished with an admirable GPA of 4.7.
Ecstatic didn’t feel like the proper word to describe how happy you were. Relief seemed like an adjective that was fairly representative of how gratifying it was to read that email. But one feeling you could trace back as the reason for your blinding smile, infectious high-spirited mood, and rose colored vision was how proud you felt.
Because the information in that email confirmed that you and Shawn were academic equals. And you knew how much he valued education.
You spent nearly an hour in your room––at your own graduation party––to write in your journal about how amazed you were with Shawn’s intelligence. Tucked away in a shoe box, your high school journal was still under your childhood bed with that entry.
You were in love with Shawn Mendes.
After your years in school together came to a bittersweet end, you felt slightly deflated when you received your high school diploma. It was your final parting place with him. You didn’t know what his plans were after high school––Always too nervous to make small talk with him. You were leaving the small town of Pickering and facing your fears of living in a big city and attending university in Toronto. You thought you would never see him again.
But you were lucky.
Because during orientation week, you were walking back from coffee with some new friends, when you saw him. You felt your breath get caught in your throat when you saw him sitting on the lawn with his orientation group. All you saw was a familiar rose color when you caught his stare. With a deep breath, and a little pep talk in your head, you offered him a small wave.
Instead of waving back at a familiar face, he turned his head back to his orientation group. You felt a little sad, but you brushed it off thinking he didn’t see you. One of your friends saw you wave at him, and they excitedly took hold of your wrist, and whispered; is that him?
Unfortunately, you only saw him a few times a semester. You figured he had a different major than you; but you always held your breath in anticipation when you walked into a general education class. But when the professor started class, and he didn’t rush in late through the doors, you always let out a disappointed sigh.
You accepted the fact that you and Shawn were no more than people who had grown up in the same town and went to school together. The past was in the past, and you were trying to move on as you filled out multiple internship applications.
Until it came to your senior year when you two both landed an internship at the same company.
You thought you were in your personal paradise when you saw him walk into the lobby, on the first day, that you stopped talking with the other interns. You didn’t know what you did in a past life to deserve this positive karma, but you would keep up whatever good deeds you were doing. Unfortunately, he was interning in a different department than you.
But even as you worked in a different area of the office, you always heard words of praise about him from multiple supervisors. And you always reiterated how diligent of a worker he had been since high school. You even tried your best to try and go on a coffee run with him, just to see him for a little bit, but those plans were never successful.
You dreaded the day when it came to receive your university diploma; that would be the actual day where your thin ties with Shawn would be officially cut. And then you would have to wait for either high school or university reunions just to get a glimpse of him. You were done with school, done with your internship––Done with him.
You had a quiet celebration with your family, opting to go out to a nice dinner instead of having a blow out party. You only drank a little champagne to celebrate the night. You sipped to all of your academic accomplishments, sipped to celebrate the job your internship offered you, and sipped in sadness as regret filled your body.
Because even after having four more additional years of school and an internship with him, you were still too nervous to talk to him.
But when you were in the lobby talking with the head of Human Resources, the ding of the elevator caused you to turn your head. You didn’t think the smile on your face could shine any brighter. You thought he looked really nice in the suit he was wearing, and he seemed just as surprised to see you when he stepped out of the elevator. He tripped over his own two feet, some coffee spilling over the lid.
Shawn, I’d like you to meet the other new hire––I believe you interned with her.
Not only had you interred with him before; you also grew up a few streets away from him, went to elementary school, middle school, high school, and university together.
In the lobby of your first real job was where you silently thanked any God up in the sky that answered your prayers.
If this was a reward for all of the nights you spent crying over sophomore year biology, you thanked your lucky stars. If this was a reward for the one time you went to one of his hockey games, and got a bag of ice for the athletic trainer when Shawn got hurt, you thanked your lucky stars. You thanked your lucky stars because you didn’t think you would be given a third chance to see Shawn any time soon.
Because in your new office, at your first real job, you were only three desks away from him.

ALIAS GRACE
By Margaret Atwood
©️1996; 465 pg; Nan A. Talese/Doubleday
Tumblr media
I didn’t really want to re-read this one because of the 2017 Netflix miniseries adaptation. I’ve only read this book one time, when I bought it new, but my memory of it was pleasant. When the miniseries debuted on Netflix, I tried to watch it, but it was terrible, which made me question my memory. That was my opinion in 2017. Maybe I’ll give it another shot now that I’ve finished the book, because I enjoyed it so much this time around.
This is fiction, yes, but it can be considered historical fiction. Grace Marks, her alleged crimes, and nearly all the characters who appear in these pages actually existed, and the events described actually occurred. In 1845, in Toronto, a 15-year-old household servant was arrested and tried for murder and being an accessory to another. The victims were Thomas Kinnear, an unmarried man of some wealth, and his housekeeper/lover Nancy Montgomery. They were killed with an axe (Kinnear) and by strangulation (Montgomery.) Grace was just a servant who did cleaning, sewing, laundry, gardening, and feeding the animals. Nancy was Grace’s superior, so she gave orders that Grace carried out. Kinnear’s farmhouse was in Richmond Hill, a suburb north of Toronto now, but in the mid-nineteenth century, it was so far from that city that it took eight or more hours to reach by carriage.
We meet Grace in the present of this book, which is in 1861. She is the narrator of her own life, and so the reader comes to know and understand Grace quite well, as first-person accounts are generally rife with the character’s thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. She is a convicted murderess who had her death sentence commuted to life in prison, mainly due to the efforts of a group of upper class professionals who found her story tragic and did not believe Grace could have committed one murder, much less two. Grace’s main defense at her trial was her near-total amnesia surrounding the night of the murders. She can’t remember what she said or did—only the terror:
“When you are in the middle of a story it isn’t a story at all, but only a confusion; a dark roaring, a blindness, a wreckage of shattered glass and splintered wood; like a house in a whirlwind, or else a boat crushed by the icebergs or swept over the rapids, and all aboard powerless to stop it. It’s only afterwards that it becomes anything like a story at all. When you are telling it, to yourself or to someone else.”
Grace and her family emigrated from Belfast to Canada. Her father was a talented and experienced stonemason. Tragically, her mother became ill (possibly with cholera), and died during the long journey by ship. She was buried at sea, a fact that weighed heavily on young Grace’s mind for the duration of this story. Upon reaching Canada, she, her father, and her nine siblings lived in two rooms in a boarding house much too small for them, wholly dependent on income their father managed to bring home.
Very unfortunately for his children, Mr. Marks seemed unable to move past his bad luck at having a wife who died just as the family was moving to improve their lives. A recurring theme of this novel is women’s suffering, always at the hands of men, and it begins here, with Mr. Marks’ belief that HIS troubles were to be blamed on his dead wife. He never really sought much work after arriving in Canada and spent most of his time in the local tavern. When Grace was fifteen, he told her it was time for her to get out and make her own way, just as he had done with her two elder siblings when they turned that age. And so Grace embarked upon her life in domestic service, offering her sewing skills and other qualifications in exchange for room and board, which is how things worked in 1845.
She meets the woman who became her best friend in the world at her first job. This was at the sprawling, very grand home of city Alderman Parkinson. We never learn this gentleman’s first name, as he is only referred to as Alderman Parkinson, so I guess that was a Very Big Deal at the time. Mary Whitney, the housekeeper (essentially her supervisor) was sweet-tempered, generous, and treated Grace like a sister. They shared a bed (again, it was 1845, so nothing sexual about it), confidences, and dreams, and Mary protected Grace and educated her in the ways of polite society and the dangers of impolite acquaintances. Like men. Some men were great men, like aldermen and doctors and judges—to be respected and maybe a little feared, but certainly trusted. Others were cads and blackguards who would try to take liberties, more often drunk than not, and they should never be trusted.
These lessons proved devastatingly ironic when Mary becomes pregnant by one of Alderman Parkinson’s adult sons. She refused to tell Grace the father’s name, only that she had told him and been given five dollars, then ordered away. So Mary and Grace began to plan a cover story for Mary’s abortion. They find a “doctor,” the procedure is performed, and Mary dies of blood loss in her and Grace’s bed.
Grace, grieving and in shock, is immediately dismissed. Mrs. Alderman Parkinson was furious that Grace hadn’t come to her and divulged all she knew about Mary’s pregnancy OR that she planned to terminate it, and therefore she couldn’t be trusted any longer. The woman is also frightened about the father’s identity, as it’s clear she suspects her sons. This loss is as painful as the loss of her mother, and Mary’s spirit stays with Grace from this point forward in her life, and is a significant factor in what happens later.
This is not the only unplanned pregnancy between an employer and a servant in this book.
Grace then accepts a position in the home of an upper-class gentleman named Thomas Kinnear, out in the country, where the total staff is only Nancy Montgomery and the handyman, James McDermott. He has a thing for Grace from the start, but she ignores him, then evades him as he begins to try to take all kinds of of sexual liberties with her. Mr. Kinnear is often gone for long stretches of time, and when he’s gone, Nancy asks Grace to sleep with her—in Mr. Kinnear’s bed. It slowly dawns on Grace that her master and his housekeeper are sleeping together, which was very scandalous at the time and seemed evil to Grace. So when Nancy starts gaining weight, then throwing up every morning, Grace knows exactly what’s wrong with her, since she observed Mary Whitney experiencing the same things early in her pregnancy.
One hot July night, McDermott approaches Grace and tells her he’s thinking of killing Mr. Kinnear so he can rob the house of its silver and other valuables. Grace doesn’t believe he’s serious. But of course, McDermott does it anyway, and since Nancy was a witness, he kills her, too. He then carried both bodies down to the cellar, methodically went through every cupboard and drawer in the house and took everything he could sell. He makes Grace come with him by making her believe that if she doesn’t, she will undoubtedly hang for the double murder, and so she complies. They are arrested in America, having managed to board a ferry to Maine.
The novel isn’t built like a linear story. There are alternating chapters from Grace’s first-person account of her life, which is introduced by way of a Dr. Simon Jordan, a psychologist, or alienist, who has traveled to the Toronto women’s prison to interview Grace and try to restore her memory of that night. The story of his interest in Grace’s case and their many sessions spent in therapy is the main focus of other third-person chapters. We learn Simon has a sharp mind and good heart. Grace never fully recovers her memories of the murders, but she knows she had nothing to do with any kind of violence. That evidently wasn’t enough to convince a judge and jury, but we the readers know she is innocent. There are many lengthy letters to and from Simon from various other doctors, prison wardens, and his family regarding his patient and her murder conviction. Some of this correspondence can be difficult to get through, but all of it fleshes out this strange period in American history and the prevailing attitudes towards mental health, “hysteria” in women, the servant class, and the appalling prison conditions of the time. The practice of psychiatry was in its infancy, and the observations made by various medical practitioners with regard to Grace’s mental status were influenced by the prevailing attitudes towards women and poorly-understood mental health issues, like trauma and amnesia. The age of ignorance is displayed in a snippet of correspondence from a doctor who oversaw Grace’s “treatment” immediately after her arrest to Simon:
“Continuous observation of her, and of her contrived antics, led me to deduce that she was not in fact insane, as she pretended, but was attempting to pull the wool over my eyes in a studied and flagrant manner. To speak plainly, her madness was a fraud and an imposture, adopted by her in order that she might indulge herself and be indulged…she is an accomplished actress and a most practiced liar.”
We and Simon never do learn, exactly, what Grace went through at the hands of McDermott, who testified both murders were Grace’s idea and that she helped him drag the bodies to the cellar (frankly unbelievable from what we know about Grace). His testimony was the main reason she was convicted, and he was also convicted and was executed by hanging shortly after her trial. But we do understand Grace’s temperament, her nature, her most private thoughts and desires, and we know she only cooperated with McDermott in order to survive. Her story has an happy ending (or as happy an ending as was posssible) when her conviction is overturned, she is set free, emigrates to America, marries and, by the conclusion, is three months into a miracle pregnancy herself. She is 45 and has spent 29 years in prison, so it’s a bittersweet ending, but doubtless far happier than she could have expected.
The novel is beautifully written, like all Atwood’s novels, and the everyday lives of people in the mid-19th century are finely drawn. It’s impossible to come away from this book and not be grateful the world has moved on. It’s no picnic in 2021 for either women or the poor, but we/they have more choices now than poor Grace Marks could ever have dreamed of.

#4 Hello, Rival (Mark Lee x you)
Fourth day of Christmas
Hello, Rival (Mark Lee x you)
Tumblr media
I do not own the pictures, but I own the stories :) enjoy!
Moving on to a new country has never been easy, even for you who was only eight when you leave New York to Toronto. You certainly miss the Christmas lights New York always have each year, but turns out Toronto is not that boring, or at least your neighbor is not boring.
You grew up with the family tradition of decorating your house with Christmas lights. Your father likes to step up your house’s Christmas lights to another level. He once designed the theme to be Avengers, once he made it Winter wonderland, another one of your favorite is the time he made a Frozen castle in front of your house. Those were back in New York where people always take a picture in front of our house.
It is now your third Christmas in Toronto and your father hasn’t come up with any idea.
“Dad, are we going to put on the lights soon? Our neighbour has started cleaning their lawn.” You peek over the blinded window to the house next to yours. They look like they’re a big family, judging by the number of people sweeping the leaves right now.
Your brother joins you on spying your neighbour, “I wonder what they are making this year. Dad are we going to decorate the lawn this year?”
Your father throws a shocked look to you and your brother “My dear (y/n) and Jaehyun, there is no way I am not putting lights this year! Just wait I’ve drawn them nicely here.” He opens his laptop and the two of you scurry to his side.
He opens his blueprint and Jaehyun claps his hands, you marvel at his work.
“Nutcracker?” your mother suddenly joins the three of you.
He nods his head proudly, “Tomorrow my nutcracker air mascot should come in the mail and we can take the lights out! We can do this, we’ll make our house looks nicer.” He places his hand and we all put ours on top of his.
“Okay now, ginger cookies are here! Let’s decorate!!!” your mother places a hot tray of fresh baked cookies on the dining table and you’re more than delighted to decorate the house.
Your family always make them and distribute some of the batches to neighbours. You spend the entire afternoon jamming to Christmas carols and finish writing small quotes on every cookies. You hand them to your mother so she can pack them nicely and you flop on the big couch in the living room.
Your brother, Jaehyun is playing the piano while listening to you commenting on your neighbour who has started putting on lights.
“I think theirs will be the usual theme, just snow man and some santas.” You spy on your neighbour as if this is a secret mission.
Jaehyun just chuckles and lets you spy more, he even adds fire like asking you how many people are there and who seems to be the laziest one.
“Are you going to school tomorrow?” your mother asks after dinner is over and you and Jaehyun are lounging over the TV playing on some video games.
You nod your head, “Tomorrow is the Christmas celebration in school and we have holidays!”
“Then you better sleep or you will be cranky. Jae you’ll help us with the lights right?” your mother asks your brother. He nods his head, “I’m free tomorrow.”
You pout, “I want to be a part of the team too!!”
Your brother teases, “You’re in school. Sorry but you won’t have credits when people come to gaze at our house.”
If your mother did not stop the two of you there, you’re sure you will be on the floor trying  to tackle your tall brother.
“We will wait for you. Jae will pick you up on twelve and we can eat lunch and start preparing the lights. Now bed time!” she points to your room and after you get up to brush your teeth your mom send you to dreamland.
The next day, you cannot hold back your excitement. You’re super happy to attend the school’s Christmas party and the last day of school, but you cannot wait for the bell to ring.
“Jumpy today, unusual…” your friend Jisung asks you.
“Oh Jisung I’ll put on the Christmas lights today!! Can’t wait.” You pick up your bag and almost run away if not for his little scream of “wait”
You turn your body and he hands you a nicely wrapped box, “I made them, some chocolates. Merry Christmas!” he waves his hand to you and you hug him tight, “Thank you!”
He is your best friend in school, you’ll miss him! Your sadness disappeared as soon as you step out of your school and see your brother with his annoying smirk.
He just waits until you’re by his side and the two of you start walking back home.
“I got a chocolate from Jisung.” You boast the small present to your brother.
Jaehyun looks at it without much interest, but his hand is fast and before you can see a piece of chocolate gone, Jae has already munch on the sweet food.
“Yak!!”
He smacks his lips, trying to savour the taste, “Hmm I guess it’s good, might need a second test.” He reaches out again but you quickly close the box and glare at him.
Jaehyun laughs at your angry face and just pokes your cheek, “Sorry, come on don’t put a sour face! It’s Christmas soon!”
When your eyes catch the pretty decorations, your neighbours had made on their garden, you forgot your sour face and run to your house.
Jaehyun has to run after you and there in your lawn you can see your father already planning out the things we have to put up today.
“Okay put your stuff inside and come out quick.” Your mother says as your father is already busy putting on the lights on the higher parts of the house.
Jaehyun helps father with the roofs and electrics, while you help mom with the tinsels and just the balloons.
It took all four of you the whole time from One to Five to finally plug in the cable to the socket and cheer when the lights perfectly work according to plan.
It really looks magical! With the white snows and the lights, you can feel like you’re in a new world, the nutcracker realm.
After cleaning up and dinner, all four of you spend your night taking pictures in front of the house. Documenting the project for this year and basically updating it to your social media.
Your eyes see the flashing lights your neighbours also have on their houses. Everyone has their own concepts, and it is all pretty.
The next day you wake up with a happy feeling. You enjoy your breakfast and see a freshly baked pie with sweet inviting smell on the kitchen.
“Mom, are you making pies?” you yell and she replies from the laundry room, “Oh that was from our neighbour. Mark’s mother baked them, cut it up if you want.”
You eye the freshly baked pie but suddenly stop when your mother appears in the kitchen with a jar of cookies.
“If you have nothing to do, please help me deliver this to their house.” Your mother hands you the jar of cookies you decorated last night.
You knit your eyebrow, “Which house is Mark’s?”
Your mother rolls her eyes, right you never meet him. “The one on the left.”
Your mouth pops an “Oh” and you grab your coat quickly. After putting on socks and boots, you take the cookies to the house next to yours. The same house that you spied on yesterday. Their decoration did not look bad, though you like yours more.
After knocking three times on their door, the door opens and a young man similar to your age greets you. His face looks surprised.
“Yes?” he said.
You clear your throat, “Oh Mark right? I’m (y/n) your neighbour. Ever since we move here, we kind of have an unspoken Christmas lights competition,” you look around and he also peeks to see your house. You continue, “And I finally meet my rival!” you grin. He laughs and you hand him the cookie jar.
“For you and your family. Thank you for the pies!” You shyly brush your hair away and feel your cheeks burn when he examines the cookies.
“Looks nice and yummy. Did you make this?” he brings out one and tastes it on the spot.
Your eyes dilate as you hope he says something good “My mom bakes it, I decorate it.”
He chews and swallows, his eyes lit up, “Hm interesting! I love this. Thank you (y/n)!”
You reach out your hand, “Nice to meet you, rival” you wink
He laughs and smirks, “Nice theme over there too, rival.”
The two of you laugh.
“Come here next time and play with me.” He politely invites you over, since both of you had never hold a conversation before.
You nod your head, “Feel free to visit me too!”
He winks, “No worries, I’ll visit you whenever I am free. Okay then, see you! I have to help mom send some more pies.”
You turn your heels away after sending the last good bye and with light foot steps you reach your home.
“Christmas never disappoints! Look, I finally know my rival and we’re going to be good friends.” You tell Jaehyun your story as soon as you see him.
“Oh yeah? How are you so sure?” he yawns bored about the lame childish story he always hear from you.
You smack your lips, “Because my heart says so, and I am not like you.”
See you!! Christmas masterlist

Markle: It’s so interesting because we talk about it now and even then, you know, because I’m from the States, you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family. While I now understand very clearly there is a global interest there, I didn’t know much about him and so the only thing that I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was — I had one question. I said, ‘Well, is he nice?’ Because if he wasn’t kind, then it didn’t seem like it would make sense. So we went and met for a drink then, I think, very quickly into that we said, ‘What are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.’

How to Find Perfect Custom Blinds in Toronto
Looking for the perfect window treatment for your home? Are you looking for a way to dress up your windows without breaking the bank? Are you unsure of where to find the perfect custom blinds in Toronto? Don't worry, there are many options to choose from. Here's how to find custom blinds that will match your decor and your budget! Whether you're looking for Toronto Blinds for a new home or a freshening up of an old one, you can find it at skyblinds.ca.

Shops that provide custom blinds in Toronto
When it comes to window coverings, custom blinds are the perfect solution for your home. A wide variety of materials, styles, and colors is available in many Toronto window treatments shops. From fake wood blinds to fabric blinds, solar shades to motorized awnings, these window coverings have something to fit every need. Whether you're looking for a traditional or modern blind, these Toronto window coverings stores can help you find the perfect style for your home.
While custom blinds can be pricey, the end result is well worth the investment. They add elegance to your surroundings, and will make your guests and family members envious. Not to mention, these blinds are highly functional and will add style to any room. You'll receive lots of compliments from guests when you install these window treatments, and you'll be able to enjoy the beauty of your new blinds for years to come.
Cost of custom blinds in Toronto
Buying window blinds online can be cheaper, but that doesn't mean you should settle for anything less than the best. Buying custom blinds from an online store isn't always the most pleasant experience. You can't see the finished product and can't touch it to know whether you'll like it. That said, there are some advantages to buying custom blinds online, especially for small homes. For starters, you can try 10 free samples, and save yourself a lot of money.
The installation process itself can be expensive. Most window coverings installers charge $35 to $100 an hour, so you should expect the cost to run anywhere from $200 to $1,250 per window. On average, a home with eight windows will require four to five hours of installation. That's a lot of money! If you're going to have them professionally installed, get three estimates before hiring a contractor. While the price isn't the only factor to consider, hiring a professional will ensure you get a quality installation.
Quality of custom blinds in Toronto
Quality of custom blinds is a key factor in choosing a window covering. Custom blinds are built from premium components and fabrics and will withstand daily wear and tear. Custom blinds often carry a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. While readymade blinds may not come with a warranty, custom blinds have many advantages that readymade blinds do not. In addition to aesthetic value, custom blinds offer superior insulation and performance.
While store-bought window treatments are inexpensive, the quality of custom window coverings cannot be matched. Most department store products are mass-produced with limited selections and are often bland and institutional-looking, designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Because custom window coverings require custom measurements, the cost of custom window treatments can be higher, but the benefits far outweigh the price. Custom window coverings are highly durable and will last a lifetime, unlike store-bought products.
