The song has been covered by countless artists and was a precursor to the genre known as Rockabilly. Hank was friendly with musician Jimmy Dickens. Having told Jimmy that he needed a hit record if he was going to become a star, Hank said he’d write it and penned "Hey Good Lookin'" in only 20 minutes while on a plane with Jimmy and entertainer Minnie Pearl. So the Fourth of July last weekend--what with the coronavirus forcing suspension of the traditional fireworks displays--barely came and went. One thing is for sure, though: You didn’t notice that rather awful “Fourth of July Heritage Loaf,” which was itself a gag from the movie The Groove Tube of some years back as satirised the television of the times--in this instance, the recipe segments as were sure to be a staple of TV specials such as Kraft Foods sponsored, the recipes themselves available in a folder which would be sent out to interested viewers.

Ze heeft haar hand aan de deurkruk en drukt deze iets naar beneden met de bedoeling om de deur te openen, maar iets houdt haar tegen om uit te stappen, om met hem mee te gaan. Deze scene is zo beklemmend dat je bijna wil schreeuwen ga ervoor, doe het, ga met hem mee!. Maar daarna als hij in de regen weg rijdt en zij hart verscheurend in de auto blijft, weet je dat ze voor haar familie heeft gekozen.

De laatste film die ik wil delen, is een drieluik. Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight. Deze drie films gaan over een jongen en een meisje dat elkaar tegenkomt in de trein en in gesprek raken. Ze stappen uit, en de gehele film lopen ze al pratende, door Wenen. Aan het einde beloven ze over 5 jaar elkaar op het zelfde station weer te ontmoeten. In deel 2 komen ze elkaar tegen in Parijs, waar hij zijn boek aan het promoten is. Het boek wat hij geschreven heeft over hun ontmoeting van toen. In deel 3 zijn ze getrouwd en vervallen in het dagelijks leven.

Dat doet film met je. Wat ik een raar fenomeen vind, is dat als je een film op DVD hebt en hij komt op tv, je gaat kijken en dan de reclames voor lief neemt.

Mijn meest inspirerende films van vroeger waren de Rocky’s , toen ik nog bokste. Er zijn er 6. Ik kijk alleen Rocky 1 en 6. Oh ja en dan oorlog films, de meest memorabele, er zijn er vele, maar ik moet nu kiezen, is  "Die Brucke", 1964, hij is van Duitse makelij maar zo mooi en zo herkenbaar en met zo’n anti oorlog gevoel, Oorlog is verschrikkelijk. Eigenlijk een hint naar al het geweld op deze wereld, men leert nooit van de geschiedenis. Jammer!, Het kan zoveel beter. Er is altijd hoop, daar vertrouwen we dan maar op. Over vrouwelijke filmsterren en hun films schrijf ik een andere keer, dat is mooier niet waar! en met foto’s, dan valt er ook wat te aanschouwen. Tot een volgend maal en misschien heb ik dan wel inspiratie zonder overledenen.

I created this video simply because I love nature. I always found the flower's timelapses fabulous, but most of the time they are made with a black background. Then I told myself to make a beautiful flower's timelapse with coloured and vintage backgrounds. To me, the 60's / 70's is the most representative period for the flowers. This is a way to pay tribute to them.

Postcards from Snagglepuss: Two stopovers going back from the Moxie Festival

Atop Mt. Washington, NH: Just driving up the Mt. Washington Auto Road, whose promoters like to describe as America's first touristic distraction, can get to be an adventure in and of itself, especially considering just how far the view into the Presidential Range of the White Mountains can go. And on a slightly cloudy day close to the heighth of New England (yet otherwise sunny enow to see towards Quebec), I can only admit one thing: Breathes there a view more gorgeous which could easily attract the Skatebirds for a run downhill via the Auto Road such as they did some while ago (even noticing Tom and Jerry having one of their chases uphill)?

... and what a feeling standing at all of 6,288 feet elevation, or about 1.2 miles above sea level, sensing the smell of coal smoke coming from the Cog Railway's terminal, and the blast of its whistle announcing another descent of the "Railway to the Moon" being imminent ... not to mention a sense of wonder approaching the Mt. Washington Observatory, which has become somewhat legendary for its weather observations, notably that 231 mph wind gust in January 1934 during a freak winter storm. And is it any wonder that "Misery Hill" is an apt observation for Mt. Washington in the winter, no doubt explaining why the observers stationed there have to REALLY stock up ahead of all that winter can dish out, even with several house cats keeping all company? (And explaining a famous warning sign posted by the Forest Service warning hikers on the nearby Appalachian Trail to "Go Back," especially if winter storms are imminent. They're not worth the risk, and many hikers have actually yielded up the ghost in consequence.)

And they say under the right conditions, the steam whistles on the Cog Railway ascending Jacob's Ladder under the strain can be heard clear as day ... the thought of which nearly escapes me as I sip further on my Moxie stash from the Moxie Festival, sensing that it's about time to descend back to New Hampshire 16, eventually towards the Stewartstown/East Hereford (US 3/Quebec 253) border crossing. And for a short detour to look up an old friend.

Somewhere in the Eastern Townships (La Estrie, in the French) of Quebec: Something of a legendary maple-sugar region for the most part ... and it's on a rather isolated patch of road "off the beaten track," so to speak, that M. Loopy DeLoop, forever seeing himself as the exception to the rule about wolves having to be sadistically cruel and violent (and failing hilariously, by and large), keeps as much a small cabin as a sugaring house for the maple sugar run. Which, he acknowledges, is a hobby more than anything ... yet is perhaps the sort as "moves with the times" by using plastic tubing connecting the sugar bush directly to the sugaring house, there making his legendary soft maple sugar presented as an annual gift to fellow Funtastics, yours truly included.

Which, as M. DeLoop explains, is probably a more sanitary way of sharing Quebec's gift to the world than glass bottles of maple syrup ("my concern, Snagglepuss," as he explained it over tea sweetened with some of his maple sugar, "is that glass jars might too easily break in transit under the wrong conditions. Hence, when I send the maple sugar, I include a small card explaining how to make your very own maple syrup with the maple sugar.")

Which, in the circles of the Funtastic World, certainly carries some cachet, some sensing an almost smoky sort of taste with hints of vanilla ... and many who have had the privilege of so enjoying same can't resist it in baking especially. Or even in coffee, such as the case with Huckleberry Hound, Undercover Elephant and even Sis and Honey. "And let's not forget the Cattanooga Cats sending some divinity every Christmas as a sort of 'thank you', made by a close candymaking friend of theirs who just can't resist making light-as-a-cloud divinity, with just the right amount of maraschino cherries in Southern tradition," M. DeLoop adds.

"Still," I remark, "perhaps the finest harbinger of spring I know of is when maple sugaring gets underway out here."

"Although pouring some of the first maple sugar on snow may be tradition," Le Bon Loup adds, "I prefer to concentrate on ensuring that the finest of soft maple sugar is produced from my artisan sugar bush." You could sense some early touches of autumn coming over the Estrie as Loopy and I walked through the sugar bush, leaves from summers past crunching our paws underpaw, the first signs of colour making itself known. "And pretty soon, it'll be time to sense the colour of autumn, even make a few tweaks to the piping system just to make sure it's in full function when the sap flows again."

To round things out, a run to the nearest roadhouse/poutinerie for a heaping plate of poutine, done in the classic La Belle Province style of homestyle gravy over the cheese curds and fries. Heaping, mind you, in the sense of worth sharing. And even with the conversation tending to French in those parts, Loopy, being Quebecoise himself, was able to get in a few words with the locals--and calls for "les selfies" on the smartfone.

"So, Snagglepuss," asked Loopy as the poutine plate was winding down, "where are you heading to next?"

"No less than the Minnesota State Fair."

"I admit hearing quite a bit about that fair in the papers, and on the TV, mind you. And I understand it's a rather popular sort of fair."

"Make no mistake about it. I plan to be there throughout."

"And will there be any poutine stands there?"

"Certainly. There's been a few more in recent years. You can even get tater-tot poutine."

"Just when you realise, Loopy," saith he in observation, "that poutine seems to be anywhere and everywhere, along comes poutine tater tots. As if poutine fries wasn't good enough ..."

So, taking up M. DeLoop's offer of a bed at his place for the night (and it turned out rather comfortable, even allowing for some rain in the night), yours truly went on his way towards what a real state fair is supposed to be like....

I created this video simply because I love nature. I always found the flower's timelapses fabulous, but most of the time they are made with a black background. Then I told myself to make a beautiful flower's timelapse with coloured and vintage backgrounds. To me, the 60's / 70's is the most representative period for the flowers. This is a way to pay tribute to them.
