I like tied up Whumpees as much as the next person but you know what I love?

Mental Restraints

Whumpee being forced to hold still while they are beaten to a pulp while their s/o is held at gunpoint. Locking their arms behind their back, digging their own nails into their skin as to not make a move.

Whumpee who cannot scream or make any other sound because rough punishment awaits if they do.

Whumpee who is guaranteed to come back after tasks obediently because Whumper has something or someone they want.

Whumpee who cannot hurt someone else because their morals hinder them. Leading them into an even worse situation.

Whumpee having to do anything Whumper asks of them because blackmail material exists and got into the wrong hands. Or even better, has been faked but is good enough to ruin Whumpees whole life if they don't play nice.

The helplessness of being aware that they are physically capable to end all of this in a bloody mess. But the price is too high.

Daydreaming about completely destroying your life. Ruining your relationships, cutting you off from family. Forcing you to quit work. Breaking you completely so I can remake you perfect for me. Isolating you so immensely so I become your whole world.

Marbled Eye are yet another great Oakland, California band. They've been around for a while - in fact, they were featured here in 2016 and 2017. At the time, I mentioned Total Control and Diat. Those comparisons still hold true, but sometimes this has the melody of early Pixies too.

Bandcamp just did a feature on the band and also mentioned The Fall, Wire and Protomartyr.

While this LP is sold out on Bandcamp, it is still available direct from Digital Regress (who along with Summer Shade are releasing this in a few days).

Total Control is such an intimate song, about viewing someone as a masterpiece, untouchable and perfect, and wanting to have control of their entire being. About being possessive, but then knowing that that’s an unreasonable notion to have because it can be incredibly hard to give your whole being to someone else. It’s the “I want all of you, but I know it’s hard to give it all up. I’m not ignorant of that.” of a relationship.

But then it's the satisfaction of just being near that person, knowing that they trust you and trusting you with knowing all of them. The “Relax, lay back, that’s that.” of it. Just relax with me, and that’s enough.

Tube Alloys' Bandcamp page states their affinity for Swell Maps, Wire and This Heat. Of course that made my brain snap to attention.

After listening to the whole album, I wholeheartedly agree with those comparisons. It made me realize how much of a debt Total Control owes to those bands as well.

Tube Alloys are a Los Angeles based band that sound 2010s era Australia - Low Life, Witch Hats and Royal Headache (with much less soulful singing) all come to mind.

So, it should come as no surprise to learn that the LP is being released by Sydney-based label Urge Records.
