The Yacht Amadeus

It wasn't a storm that drove the vessel aground at Sandy Bay on the 18th January 1986 - it simply came too close to the shore at low tide, and the crew ended up being closer to the nudist beach than they'd perhaps anticipated. Beachgoers, several wearing just their birthday suits, rallied to assist by holding the yacht steady while a towline was attached.

In late September 1894, the schooner barge Ironton was traveling light from Cleveland to Marquette and under tow by the steamer Kershaw along with schooner barge Moonlight. The wooden freighter Ohio was steaming from Duluth to Ogdensburg, New York loaded with a cargo of grain. The three ships were heading north when they encountered Ohio in rough conditions, 10 miles north of Presque Isle. It was during this critical moment, with the vessels about to pass each other, that Ironton's towline parted.

The vessel broke free, veered off course and collided with Ohio. Both sank in half an hour. Sixteen crewmembers of Ohio got into lifeboats and were later picked up by schooner Moonlight. Another passing vessel, the steamer Hebard, picked up two of Ironton's crew. Lake Huron claimed Captain Girard and four other Ironton crew: Mate Ed Bostwick, Sailor John Pope, and two unidentified sailors.

13th January 1942. Test pilot Helmut Schenk was the first person to use an ejection seat in an emergency situation. The control surfaces of his Heinkel 280 jet -being towed by two Bf110s prior to engine testing- had iced up in a storm. He cast off the towline and ejected safely.

(R) Later version of a German ejection seat, from a Heinkel 162. Schenk’s seat had been propelled by compressed air, but this version used a series of explosive cartridges. Other German aircraft to use ejection seats included the Dornier 335 and Heinkel 219; it’s thought they were used 60 times during the war, though the success rate is unclear.

Everyone's going to be praising Gun and Nanon for their acting in Midnight Museum, and rightly so, but let's also acknowledge Tor. Everything in the show is built around the emotional core of Khatha with his longing, shame, and desperation. He grounds the entire story and makes it compelling enough to follow through wild genre swings and an impossibly tangled mythology. None of it would work without Tor selling it 100%, and he does.

(Don't get me wrong I love the impossibly tangled mythology and every bit of chaos they give us, but if you are going to do something like this you have to give the audience a solid emotional towline to hang onto, and they do. It's on the shoulders of all the actors, but especially Gun and Tor and most especially Tor.)

Thinking about Wacky Sex Hijinks

TFA Bee and Prowl are fooling around when they're nearly discovered, and Bee shuts his panels so fast he gets his erect spike trapped in them. Kind of like the robot equivalent of accidentally catching your cock and balls in your zipper.

G1 Hoist has the brilliant idea of tying himself up with his own towline in Grapple's workshop, so he can go "Oh no... it appears I am completely helpless... I sure hope no big, strong cranes come by and take advantage of me... ;)". Unfortunately, he ends up stuck in a pretty unflattering and uncomfortable position and Grapple has to cut him down.

G1 Blitzwing wants to be the dom for once, and Astrotrain lets him use a remote device to lock his interface panels for some chastity play. All is going well until Blitzwing sheepishly comes up to Astrotrain and admits he lost the remote, and which point Astrotrain nearly has a conniption because he'll have to ask Hook to fix it, and he's not looking forward to that. He promises Blitzwing that from now on, the tank-jet will be the one in chastity.
