You won’t stop talking about Plague Ponies — What is it?

Plague Ponies is what I’m calling my MLP Infection AU series! I jumped on the bandwagon because I love putting ponies in situations. I started this on TikTok, but that place is a terrible place to post anything but finished videos, so I’m brainrotting on my blog <3

My au will be a little bit of a slow-burn, focusing on character interactions when the stakes are much higher than they were during most of the show.

This is a grimdark, so things will get a little grim, a little dark. The standard blood, death, gore, body horror, and toxic situationships. There will be doomed yuri, corruption arcs, redemption arcs, regression arcs, and lots of angst.

What I will NOT be including in this series:

• Sexual/birth horror (rape, necrophilia, infant death, infant mutilation, graphic depictions of abortion, forced pregnancy)

• Mental illness diagnoses in character profiles (and no “insanity meters” or uses of common mlp grimdark “classics” such as Cupcakes-esque Pinkimina, crazy Twilight, Little Miss Rarity, etc.)

While I love dark, psychological horror, I want to treat these characters with integrity and not rely on shock value. I love the infection aus I’ve been seeing, but too many of them veer into being distasteful for the sake of nostalgia or something. I personally think we’ve grown past that phase of the fandom.

The first half of Plague Ponies will be focusing on Ponyville, taking place shortly after season 4, episode 7 (Bats!), focusing on the Mane Six and various background characters shown throughout the show. I created this wanting to explore character personalities, so I’ll try not to change too much of the original characters’ core personalities, but everything is based on my own interpretation of the characters, so it may be a little different from someone else’s vision of the show.

While I will feature some characters from later seasons in the show, I didn’t really watch it regularly after season 4, so later editions to the Ponyverse may not show up. Sorry Tirek.

hi thank you for asking i love to talk about fics i read. im so sorry you didn't specify a fandom so i'm going to talk about everything i favorited this year so far lol. i am currently reading this cherik fic called exit wounds by lemonadegarden and i cannot stress enough how good it is. the worldbuilding, the politics, the characters, the storytelling, the emotions, just so so good. please read it if you are a cherik liker. i love it. i haven't finished it yet but omg. not in any particular order

the patch of sand where we buried the dog by shroomyystar: this fic is about luna and erik running into each other and getting ice cream. it should be normal but it's magneto family you know it's fucking insane. you don't even understand the luna and erik brainrot i gained from reading this i was like oh my god his granddaughter.. magnificent character work. to me the magneto family in comics have such a special specific dynamic and it's so well nailed here. it's crazy

make the fire rise by frozencinders: alright i don't go to baldur's gate 3 but i know enough about wyll and astarion and i really like this author so i might as well read their wyllstarion do you feel me. it's about yearning and romance novels and vampires and everything u could ever ask for. i loved it sm. one of my favorite things about this is the narration, like the way the thoughts flow so easily while keeping in beat with the character voice and making u feel so earnest..... gorgeous.......

what's the point in playin' a game you're gonna lose by shroomyystar: raven/irene in regard to the x-men blue origins revelation. raven being so fucking mad at irene but also so deeply in love with her to the point it's the same thing. when i say toxic yuri this is exactly what i mean it's exactly raven trying to kill her and thinking it's like having sex. that's EXACTLY what i mean.

gravity felled the apple (but the spiders stuck around) by maroonmusings: insomniac spider-man 2, peter gets to keep the teaching job and everyone thinks he has a favorite student (miles) which creates some drama until they figure it out a little too well. it's so fucking good. when i read peter parker, i want him to sound exactly like this. the character voices.. the non-canon characters perfectly fitting in this... the entire spider-man cast playing very well in this fic.. THE DIALOGUE! writing peter is such an art but this person GETS it.

taste the way that you bleed by maroonmusings: peter parker/astarion based on that one time they made a joke about it. again i don't go to bg3 but fantastic character work, it's literally so in character it totally sold me on this pairing - not that i need much convincing for crackships. that's just who i am brother.i fucking loved this so much.

Some Catching Up to Do by magicasen: jean/wanda! jean/wanda set in x-men first class. it's so fucking good and funny, it feels incredibly in character to the xmfc versions of them. it's such a feel-good fic about them in that period of time too, and pietro's cameos were too fucking funny. i love girls being girls and being in love :(

lech lecha by ferriswheelsdayoff: hosea matthews character analysis it will blow your tits off. i'm still floored by the amount of work into each line and how it's connected to real world teachings and how it manages to weave all of hosea's important relationships while analyzing him too. saur good

take what you give me by magentateam_bplot: storm/magneto. THIS is the sub erik type of shit i enjoy. magnificent characterization of both of them i could easily read 9k of it 1k was too little!!!

Girls' Nights by EmilyArmadillo: gabby bonding with vault laura!!!!!!! I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD IDEA like i wish we actually had gabby's reaction to talon? i mean ofc that's asking too much from duggan, or for duggan to care, but this person delivered so well. everything was so well implemented, even the bit where the other laura kinney sees her and leaves the room. ahhh so good

Graveside by NotesFromSarah: the aftermath of erik burying anya after the fire, and then him and the twins coming together to visit her burial place. i thought this was amazing and heartbreaking and also a very groundbreaking magneto fam style for me..... not a lot of fics focused on them during the 80s, which is a good place for them to be somewhat normal around each other, and this fic does such a good job of using tragedy to join them without disregarding their past. gorgeoussss

Last Chance by Lefaym: my notes on this says 'old man sex heart hands' and it's exactly that. doomed timeline cherik from dofp have such a special heart to me even if i don't go much to moviesparts as i did before and oh my god... it's about that longing that regret that they're running out of time and also your hip being sore so you can't really hold a sex position. i love it.

Speed of Silence, Sound of Silence by neverminetohold: x-men evolution pietro & erik. something goes wrong and pietro thinks he's going to be scolded, but erik doesn't scold him. 'His quickening stride screams of his wish to escape this moment that is as far removed from a lecture as it can get.

That defines their relationship in a nutshell. Will they never be able to move beyond this?' you don't even get it im insane. im insane. im insane

chatoyant by unsungillumination: this fic is the best use of the fake dating trope that's ever existed, probably because the main protagonists of this are light and L death note. L and Light get in a relationship for strategic reasons until light gives up the death note, forgetting it is strategic, and believes it's actually real. it's so fucking good. also devastating

Drive. by MissAmyShay: the bear fic. insane. carmy and richie reconciliation, nat and richie flashback to when mikey was first declared dead, nat richie bonding, nat giving birth, donna mentions. what else could i even ask for. it's amazing. i don't even need to read any other fics

telltale by unsungillumination: L haunts light after his death. it's literally ruining light's life. this is my favorite thing in the world i love a good fic about grief and about fucked up soulmates who are not soulmates in a traditional way. i recently finished death note after leaving it on standby for a decade and i'm thriving

This Is How I Disappear by TzviaAriella: kira gets found out. he gets sentenced to death row. he asks the task force to shoot him. it's literally the most haunting fic in the world and i'm so so so so obsessed with it i kinda wanna reread it but it's like devastating and most of all GOOD

they both die at the end by unsungillumination: when i say i love fics that make me feel at odds with my own mortality and how i am spending my life and also grief for the future and grief for things past and grief, in the actual sense of death, ohhh. oh my god. what kills me is that this fic is just so grounded as well. you know the ending is coming. you just hang onto the little moments hoping MAYBE it won't happen, but you know. i loved it so bad. also this is a death note fic again

Connect the Dots by GrayJay: SCOTT SUMMERS ASKS MATT MURDOCK OF DAREDEVIL FAME TO BE A TEACHER AT THE SCHOOL AND THEY BOND OVER HOW SIMILAR THEIR DISABILITIES ARE it's ltierally so godo it's insane i love my favorite characters talking so much :(

the thirty-second hour by unsungillumination: this fic is about light yagami not being able to lie for 4 hours in each day, but it happens at random times, as a consequence of regaining his memories of the death note. it's inspired by i found you in the fire by yosgay which is ALSO one of my favorite fics even if it's not from my current 2024 reads but it IS TO ME. anyway. point is a character like light being forced to tell the truth is amazing. the layers of performance and what truth even means being analyzed through light's own eyes... mmmwah..

Tough Love by UmbrellaMartialGod: haikyuu fic. suga/tsukki. i was like no one in this world understands my fucked up haikyuu dynamic ship in which tsukki has a life-ruining unrequited crush on suga that no one else knows about except yamaguchi EXCEPT THIS PERSON!!!!!!!! THIS PERSON WROTE IT!!!!!!! IMAGINE THAT. HAVING A FIC ABOUT A RAREPAIR THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEEDED. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. I GENUINELY DONT KNOW HOW TO ACT

they're like. madara bothers keito always because y'know, it's madara, so he just pesters and pesters him to hang out until keito is like "okay, maybe if i do it once he'll stop bothering me" but he just doesn't. and then we have madakei because keito starts enjoying his company aww.

i think that would also evolve into anger or something LOL. keito scolding madara more because he likes him, so it becomes frustrating for him and madara just plays around with that idea. silly

I LOVE THIS TOO keito eventually warming up to madara is really cute , but im so enamored by the hyper aggressive version that comes with keitos feelings for madara going in the polar opposite direction. madara doesnt really like keito either but not even close to as much as keito hates him . they try to avoid each other but their social circles overlap too much (and theyre in the same class) so they dont intentionally hang out but their paths cross constantly. sometimes theyll be with mutual friends and then their friends have to leave and theyre left alone together so madara is like "im hungry im going to the cafe you can come if you want i guess" and for some reason keito does come along but doesnt really know why (maybe he subconsciously just wants to look at him some more) so theyre both sitting there like "how the hell did i get here what did i do to deserve this" . maybe some bystanders even think theyre on a date. like the universe keeps putting them in succession match type situations and theyre NOT happy about it . the irony and coincidence of it all is pure comedy to me. its like the red string of fate but turned upside down. the worlds horniest romantic comedy. its just, we all know keito has a type. he has a thing for delinquents with muscles that are a little bit scary . madara fits into that type perfectly, but hes also incredibly similar to rei personality wise. hes like if you combined kuro and rei and cranked everything up to 11. and then taking into account keitos relationships with kuro and rei.... suddenly everything he has going on with madara makes perfect sense.

who are your favorite OnK characters (apart from Ai)?

i love that you clarified 'apart from Ai' because my blorbo brainrot derangement so thoroughly speaks for itself <3

From the main cast, I'd say my faves are Kana, Aqua and Ruby in that order. Up to Tokyo Blade I'd say I like all of them about equally, but from TB onwards, it's more like Kana --> Aqua ----> Ruby. Not that I dislike Ruby or anything…? There's just some weird bumps in how she's characterized post Tokyo Blade and I especially just really don't like Black Hoshigan Ruby as presented in the manga so she's kind of a miss for me in that regard lol. I looooove her in the first 30-40 chapters of the manga though and especially the anime… Yurie Igoma's portrayal of her is so cute and sweet and earnest. It's fucking insane to me that Ruby is her first main role in a show?? I rly can't wait to see where her career goes from here because I really think she's gonna blow up.

ANYWAY… From the side cast… Melt my beloved <3 His arc in Tokyo Blade is so fucking good and tbh his interlude chapter was easily my favourite of his. Sooooo excited to see his glowup moments in season 2. I'm also really fond of Miyako for similar reasons! The anime especially does a ton to make her and Ai's relationship a lot warmer and closer and that combined with her relationship with the twins has me so fond of her. I like Ichigo a lot as well, though that's kind of mostly just in the context of his and Ai's relationship and the Strawberry Productions family dynamic in general and I'm not necessarily crazy invested in him as a character on his own.

I also ADORE Kyun and Nino. Viewpoint B is my favourite OnK sidestory and Kyun and her relationship with Ai are a big part of that. I'm also SOOOOOOO excited to see more of Nino in the main story… I was always so fascinated by the 45510 narrator and the mess of emotions that story lays out re: her relationship with Ai so it's been such a surprise and a delight to see her getting additional development and seeing her relationship with Ai being fleshed out even more. Huge w for gay people and evil women enjoyers everywhere.

This also might sound bonkers but uh, Ayumi Hoshino is also one of my favourite side characters?? Yeah, Ai's shitty mom! I am just so endlessly fascinated by her and am really sincerely in awe of how incredibly well realized and well characterized she is across the literal four pages of on-screen panel time she gets in the entire manga. Her abuse is so, so foundational to literally everything about Ai and her presence was this horrible black smear across Ai's past that we could never get a proper look at, so the absolute gutpunch that was the anticlimax of seeing her in person for the first time and realizing how sad and pathetic and normal she was……………. bro…………………. I may have a lot of issues with how Akasaka writes certain things in OnK but he writes toxic moms in such a raw and real way, I can't get enough of it

I'm pretty sure they used to be sweet to each other. However now their relationship is so fucked up that they cannot express love without hate.

I am also pretty sure that at least one of them gets defensive when seeing actual love without hate from the other.

Pretty sure they'd hold hands but never in the public. Only like holding pinkies in public so no one could tell that one or the other is either really mad or nervous as heck.

I know that's not a lot sorrgy.

These are pretty much the headcanons about them that are 90% are mine. Other headcanons that I have about them are like.. Heavily based on some other things I've read or seen about them.

I won't include all that but I gotta be honest I like other headcanons about Abel and Bunny cause those are really interesting to me.

do you have any thoughts about beom in BOF? i rewatched his bits from it after the brainrot started and i’d love it if he had a role like that now. it’s similar to rang, but like if rang put his trauma onto yeohee or yuri something. all of beom’s other characters end up fundamentally decent to their love/friend interests, but yijung worked out his toxicity through the romance and the love-hate triangle of gaeul yijung and eunjae was honestly hot. i want that for beom again.

haha i wonder how many fans LDW lost after they started totnt for yeon and ended up falling for his little brother! i should see more of LDW’s dramas, i loved him in goblin.

I have mixed feelings about Beommie’s character in BOF.

BoF was something I started watching for Beom, so it's unsurprising I skimmed through the whole thing to just watch the Yi-jung/Ga-eul scenes.

As for his character, while not as toxic as Jun-pyo (who I felt was unbearable, and it doesn't help that I'm not a Lee Min-ho fan), and while I did understand where he was coming from - his father being the way he was, his losing his first love to his brother, I couldn't tolerate him being nasty towards Ga-eul. And I really couldn't understand why she accepted him when he asked her out after first rejecting her!!! But then, I'm not at the age where I can relate to that show, so maybe, it's just me (at an age where I'm a handful of years younger to Beom) that finds it irritating.

As for the triangle with the pottery-teacher - they could've done without her coming back. I didn't like her and I didn't find his pining for her very convincing. If they had just made it about him and Ga-eul, and about how he first resists her, but then later, with her, he's able to overcome the demons of his past, I might have appreciated it better.

But if I overlook that, he looks sweet, all his scenes with Ga-eul are swoon-worthy (minus the ones I nitpicked at), and that ending where he turns up at her school was lovely!

Now, so many years later, if they had made 2020!Lee Rang a playboy who shuns attachment and just sleeps around, careful not to hand his heart away after his abandonment issues with Yeon - I would totally take that! I even wrote a ficlet on those lines. When he meets this girl - this beautiful, feisty stranger who’s as damaged as him (I'll take either Yu-ri or Yeo-hee because I like him with both), he is intrigued. He wants to push her away after a one-night stand, but he can't and keeps meeting her again and again. He can't help being drawn to her and slowly falls for her...

Now Beommie oppa, give me that kind of a playboy...
