The tablesaw, my old nemesis, the unwieldy finger eater, has been usurped at last! Track saw is my new best friend.
You know how a tablesaw sits at the middle of your shop, and if you don't have a roller table or lots of support, it breaks your toes when you drop sheet material, hits you in the gut with kickback, and vrrrs its terrible teeth for your fingers anytime you have to feed something through, even when you use a push stick? The tracksaw is the opposite of that. Tracksaw is so gentle, like an old plow horse walking the same field over and over again. Tracksaw doesn't make you move your sheet material. Tracksaw sits on top of the big toebreaker plywood and holds its blade up and out of the way, and then plunges down and gently gently bites its way across on tracks like a lovely locomotive and gives you niiiice clean cut. Tracksaw is good. Tracksaw is best. Tracksaw should have been shown to me twenty years ago.

If I'd be starting a workshop from scratch, track saw would be the first tool I'd buy. Rail square probably the second. The track saw is ideal for ripping boards, cutting trim, and providing chip-free cuts to panels. The caterpillar saw is also great when used as a plunge saw because you can set it to a precise depth and it will not let you down. You have maximum control when working on hardwood floors or subfloors, for example

Use of Track Saw
Tumblr media
In case you're a carpenter you've presumably known about track saws (click here for the full guide). In any case, what precisely is this force apparatus utilized for and for what reason is it such a well known saw among both expert and DIY skilled worker? The track saw, additionally called a dive saw, is comparative in style to a regular round observed yet as opposed to having an uncovered sharp edge that turns on an arbor, its cutting edge is disguised inside the machine itself, permitting it to make plunge cuts anyplace in your workpiece.
The track saw can likewise be connected to a long aluminum control rail, or track, which cinches onto a workpiece and permits you to make exact straight cuts across long sheet materials. This implies materials like entryways, compressed wood, and melamine can be cut no problem at all. What's more, since the saw likewise functions as a roundabout dive saw, you can even utilize it to slice through slight bits of wood like door jambs just as thicker bits of timber.
How Useful is a Track Saw?
The principle advantages of a track saw are its flexibility, exactness, and compactness. Since a track saw can fill in as a board, table, miter, and round observed, numerous carpenters value this apparatus since it spares them from utilizing a few distinct saws on a task. Track saws permit you to carry your apparatus to your material as opposed to conveying your workpieces to a stationary table saw. This is helpful with regards to cutting enormous, substantial bits of wood.
In addition, causing cuts in enormous sheets of compressed wood to can pummel a table saw however a track saw lets you separate the sheets and afterward carry them to your table saw when it's a great opportunity to make exact, estimated cuts. This will spare you both material and time. Furthermore, to the extent exactness goes, a track saw can't be beat. These saws make smooth, clean cuts that don't require sanding or smoothing preceding use. Edges are left chip free and impeccably straight cuts can be made in a solitary pass because of the saw's capacity to be mounted to a guide rail.
A dive cut track saw likewise permits you to just check your workpiece, put the edge of the track on the imprint, and remove. Your saw will move along the guide rail with smoothness and accuracy. What's more, since you can put the track at any edge, the track saw is ideal for the accuracy cutting required for ventures like cabinetry. What's more, the device's sharp edge is spring-stacked and pivoted, permitting you to make precise dive slices when making fixes to wood ground surface or making a custom ledge.
What's more, since the cutting edge watch has a position of safety, huge numbers of these saws can slice flush to a divider. Furthermore, with an angle cut capacity, these adaptable saws can handle mitering occupations that you'd typically need separate instruments to perform. With the capacity to make straight cuts on long sheet material, trim timber and slim bits of wood, make miter cuts, and plunge cut—all with fragment free, clean outcomes—the track saw is one of the most solid and flexible apparatuses in any carpenters munititions stockpile. There is a another versatile tool Reciprocating saw. Grab one for yourself and make your work easy.
Is a Track Saw Worth the Money?
Numerous customers wonder if a track saw merits the cash. Initially, these adaptable instruments appear to be like traditional round saws that cost significantly not exactly even an essential dive cut track saw. Yet, the explanation these instruments cost more is clear when you take a gander at everything a decent track saw can do. Track saws are utilized to make long, exact cuts in wood materials quicker and more effectively than round and table saws. Besides, they're versatile, light, and, since elastic strips on the base of the track forestall slips, they don't require bracing preceding beginning.
Furthermore, in contrast to a roundabout saw, the track saw doesn't highlight a sharp edge monitor that impedes cutting, essentially discharge the dive system and let the edge drop down for smooth, precise, flush cuts. What's more, not normal for a roundabout saw, plunge saws are planned with riving blades that follow the cutting edge, keeping your workpiece from authoritative on the edge and diminishing the opportunity of payoff.
Likewise, not at all like the chaos produced using working with a round observed, slicing through anything, even MDF, with a track saw is for all intents and purposes without dust. The cover on the instrument traps dust and, when you connect a vacuum hose to the residue port, you can appreciate a garbage free work zone. Also, in contrast to a miter or table saw, a track saw has a boundless point run. Anyway steep the point you have to cut, essentially lay the track over the workpiece and remove.
In addition, since these devices make sans tear cuts with no obvious chipping, carpenters won't need to sand down edges, sparing them long stretches of important time. Convenient as a roundabout saw yet equipped for performing assignments regularly connected with miter, table, and board saws, the track saw is an advantageous venture for anybody keen on accomplishing top notch results.
Least Width Board That Can Be Cut with a Track Saw
As valuable as a track saw seems to be, each device has its restrictions. One of the primary contemplations that you have to remember is that a track saw is best utilized with bits of wood that can be made sure about by the guide rail. While a few models may have explicit estimations noted in their client manual, the general dependable guideline is that a track saw shouldn't be utilized to cut bits of wood that are under 1/8" in thickness.

I caved. I bought the Makita track saw from Amazon and it arrived today. Unfortunately there was a problem with shipping and it's not all here. I received an email in advance and was prepared, and have already contacted them to resolve the situation. So hopefully Monday it should all be sorted out and I'll be ready to use this guy to start the next batch of Baltic Birch hat presses. #makita #amazon #woodwork #woodworking #woodworker #tracksaw #makitatracksaw #urbanlumber #urbanlogging #drillsergeant #usada #thiswelldefend #campaignhat https://www.instagram.com/clandestinewoodwork/p/BwONBvTgRTn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8avucmic8tbf

That's what a circular saw can do, but a caterpillar saw cannot. So you don't need a circular saw, but you can have one if you want one. I have a chain saw and 3 circular saws. The caterpillar saw's plunge mechanism makes it difficult to use without the caterpillar.

REAL proud of my Festool track storage solution. Thought I was the smartest man who ever walked the planet with this design... right up until I saw 5 other people had done the same on the Festiol Forum when I went to post. Crap. Still really happy with the utility, ease of access, and how pretty the mounts turned out. #festool #tracksaw #shop #storage #notthefirstonetothinkofthis https://www.instagram.com/p/BzWjpEzgzJi/?igshid=9j7hiumxakur

Track saws are so handy! @chadmcilvenna was able to just bring it out the cordless @makitatools tracksaw to his truck and rip these 3/4” MDF sheets down before we took them into the shop!
