Hey folks, Arch here! Sorry if the Prompt's a little later than usual, school ends a helluva lot later these days.
Tell us a little about some piece or type of infrastructure which plays an important role in a society's daily lives! What does it provide for people, and how? Who created it, and how has it been maintained through the ages?

Interesting thoughts from Peter Zeihan, a global analyst who is hired by many governments around the world to figure out solutions to complex problems.
To summarize this lengthy video, he believes most of the countries in Africa will not fare too well with America pulling back from the global stage, but he does cite a few prominent nations that will more or less be okay (at least economically).
Senegal 🇸🇳 is sadly controlled by France 🇫🇷 (latter owns their currency), so they will use that leverage in an attempt to dominate the country
Nigeria 🇳🇬 has a lot of infrastructure already built, & is too powerful to control. Zeihan expects foreign nations to approach the country with even negotiations.
Angola 🇦🇴 will probably be sought out by Britain 🇬🇧, France 🇫🇷 & Norway 🇳🇴, & each will attempt to control the country from the sides
South Africa 🇿🇦 will continue to be a power house economically
Kenya 🇰🇪 & Uganda 🇺🇬 may also embrace industrialization
love that because two idiots decided to fuck during an ice storm instead of playing a board game or doing literally ANYTHING ELSE i get to be forced to live during the decline of the us empire

Paving Expert Addressed Board of Trade.
---
H. L. Collier, of St. Louis, Mo., Presented Some Strong Arguments Last Night.
----
The members of the Board of Trade at last night's meeting were favored with an excellent address on the paving question by a well-known expert. Mr. H. L. Collier of St. Louis, Mo., who has had a large experience on the paving question, both in connection with. the United States government and in private capacities with a number of large American firms and cities in the Republic.
Mr. Collier went into his life work in regard to the question of street paying, which, he said, was attracting great attention in all the cities of the world. He gave a large number of statistics regarding wood block pavements, and claimed that their superiority could not be overestimated. The advantages of their use for paving he summed up as follows: Resistance to wear, dustlessness, noiselessness, non storing and non-radiating of heat, and ease of cleaning. These advantages would commend them to general use.
The lecture was listened to with great attention and at its close a number of questions were asked by members.
In answer to Mr. J. M. Campbell, Mr. Collier stated that wood blocks would stay down against a "T" rail as long as any other type, provided they were put down properly.
Ald Fair also asked where there had been success obtained with the blocks against a "T" rail, and in reply Mr. Collier instanced a number of cities in the Southern States, where they had been used.
A vote of thanks was tendered Mr. Collier for his able and instructive address.
Happy Wet Wooper Wednesday! Thank you @artsyunderstudy and @martsonmars for the tags and welcome back @tea-brigade!
I haven’t... written anything but papers and an article for work. (See the tags). I am still stuck on the middle part of Ljubim te and I haven’t shared anything from the later chapters that I have already written, because spoilers, but I think this is safe to share. After all, it’s already established that Quinn will visit. Here’s something from chapter 15. Psssst, psssst, come get your juice @blurglesmurfklaine and @thnxforknowingme:
Blaine also doesn’t have the time to think it through because Quinn, his fucking girlfriend, will be here any second.
“Blaine!”
Speaking of Quinn.
Blaine looks in the direction of the voice and there she is. Quinn. She looks like she’s from a movie, with her beautifully styled hair, her snazzy beret, black shining pumps and her matching dark red peacoat. Fuck, even her suitcase completes the look. She looks far too pretty for someone who’s spent hours in a plane.
Quinn is pretty. That’s what Blaine’s holding onto now. He’s always thought so.
i genuinely don't understand what capitalist countries stand to gain by fighting each other instead of collaborating economically. like why does the us warmonger against china when we would benefit more from trade? ostensibly it's for moral reasons, but regardless of the veracity of any given claim i think the united states has shown itself to prioritize economic success over human rights on a number of occasions especially during the cold war. i suppose i assume most wars are waged on the grounds of economic gain (natural resources, global political power, straight up money in the form of the military-industrial complex) but you could make an equally solid argument that just as many are waged over purely social and political issues- ethnic and religious conflict, blind nationalism, the whims of a dictator. it just confuses me at times, i guess. i have a hard time believing that the united states is bound and determined to wage war against china over human rights abuses, infringing on other countries sovereignty, and neo-colonialism in africa when we've propped up fascist dictators in many a country who've done far worse. is it literally just the association with communism? because surely whatever evil fuckers actually want war know that china is very far from communist right now. is it just nationalism? the idea that we must be on the top of the totem pole, even if our economy would stand to gain from trade? because i suppose i could believe that, but i think if that was true we wouldn't have gotten to where we are today in the first place. blegh. at the end of the day i am also ignoring the fact that many many different groups of people want war against china for reasons ranging from sinophobic jingoist nationalism to a genuine belief that the united states is a global moral watchdog determined to establish ~democracy~ worldwide. but there is a definite slant to media coverage on china right now, genuine attempts at disinformation, and given that the media in the us is so deeply tied to corporate interests it leads me to believe that there has to be some economic motive here, and it frustrates me that i can't figure out what it is.
From an odds and probabilities standpoint, we’re overdue for a large asteroid; from a geological standpoint, the Yellowstone super-volcano is WAY overdue to erupt; from a solar flare standpoint, we are presently due a radiation storm which will completely wipe out most advanced technology, including power grids; from a climate perspective, it is inevitable that we will some day return to an Ice Age, and we are already (by the measure of averages) most of the way through our current warm period. Any of these four events would mean the death of billions of people, and probably the end of civilisation as it currently exists.
