The Time Child timeline hopped to hang out with like the only other sane kid out there but his mood is still not in the best place
( Jenny draws him and talks about him to her parents and they think he's her imaginary friend thank you very much )
the gay divorced objects drama is still strong as shit and polycules don't exist until I post all my funny memes

If nonavian dinos never went extinct, and the earth cooled as I did, do you think previously fatherless dinos would have become feathered to keep warm? Like a ceratopsian or hadrosaur or even a sauropod? Or do you think they would have been big enough it wouldn't have mattered? Just something I always think about because elephants are mostly hairless to lose body heat but mammoths were the same size and really hairy
They would 100% regain their feathers. As far as we can tell, outside of ~ Maniraptoriformes feathers are a plastic trait, meaning it’s turned on and off at the regulatory level over generations but circumstances can lead to the population regaining them. We keep seeing scales and feathers bounce around like mad just to make understanding their evolution that much trickier, so this would apply here as well

"Hey - can you hand me that?" Rex's bucket of water was just out of reach, and he couldn't leave the start of his (horrible) snow dinosaur without it losing integrity. "This is how you make a very serious snow creation - you gotta freeze it as you go along."

This is said with an academic lack of judgment but I think pavb¡e shippers and m¡gb shippers are divergent evolution of the same ancestor: no¡rham shippers

Current vague fantasy villain/hero story species line-up:
- dragons that are isolationist little meat computers that sound somewhere between a modem and a vocaloid
- rodent dwarves that definitely were not caused by "okay ffxiv kobolds are cute but I can make an even cuter underground fuzzball species and wait a fucking second that's just a 3-foot-tall chinchilla. PUT IT IN."
- catgirls (80s apocalypse biker throwback subtype), everyman species in the way humans typically are in fantasy
- elves that are also bats, still determining how much bat is in them but it's at least hitting their noses and ears and creepy little hands
It'll be a fun to design lineup even if the elves are going to have me kicking myself when I have to start rotating them, lots of weird shapes to work with
Also with that solidified I've finally nailed down the hero's species which is nice even if it leads to the extremely silly "catman and his monotreme bff vs angry monotreme man and his catwoman bff" dynamic

do u ever see comments on posts and artwork full of effort and thought and passion etc and like. think about that post that talks about how people have the darndest time interacting with art without trying to crack a joke about it. is it really so boring to take someone's art seriously? is it necessary to demean someone's efforts, however unintended, for a 'joke' that consists of you being like "ooOOoOh how weird lol!!" like i don't want or mean to be a killjoy. but i think about that post a lot. like y do u need to add a punchline to something that doesn't need one. who asked u. why does it need to be funny. and u don't even have the decency to acknowledge its merit ;/
#wynn speaks#don't get me wrong i love being silly it's 1 of my most valued traits#but like. idk.#imagine seeing a genuinely cool animation of how a feathered dinosaur might look in a jurassic park-esque movie#and you comment that it looks like a big bird creepypasta. like rlly u couldn't keep that to urself?#sorry it's probably not that serious. i'm just extremely petty and that comment annoyed me and now i am in my petty mode#i went to check the artist out (they're on twitter @wobblyworks) and turns out dinosaurs is their Whole Thing#tbh the feathered dino animation reminds me of like#so i went to this science museum to chaperone my little sister n her classmates and they had this fun li'l thing#where a guy was in basically a full-body puppet which was a feathered t-rex#and they treated it like a 'real' t-rex while talking abt dino facts#they let kids throw a light ball at it to 'play' w it it was very cute#and like you could See the puppetteer u could see their legs and shoes and stuff#but even middle schoolers were able to look past that and see how genuinely fucking cool that was!#like yes they made jokes abt the sneakers and how a human crawled out the rex when the show was over and they had to put the suit away#but they were in so much genuine aw it was rlly cute. and it makes sense bc the suit was really well made! it had a moving mouth/jaw#and i wouldn't be surprised if it had a mechanism to blink its eyes#but i digress#i'm not saying that u can Only interact with art with complete seriousness. like jokes r fine#but idk. becomes a problem when that is the only way u interact with art. and also if you're unfunny and personally annoy me#and i'm not saying that person is the kind of person to do that. bc idk them. i'm just like#kind of annoyed with seeing repeat instances of comments that r like 'hmm this art... what if i made it about how funny i am!''#i say kind of but then i look up and there is an entire wall of tags that r just me griping about it and a detour about a dino puppet suit#sorry besties i just needed to get that out of my system ily <3#btw the dude's part of a project/kickstarter called 'forgotten bloodlines'#and it seems to be an animated documentary about prehistoric creatures#i recommend u check out the trailer it looks soo cool

was watching a video on how shit the pocahontas movie is and thinking about the mystification of native americans in media and how they're usually shown to be serious, quiet, and typically not very emotive- i have just realised that i cannot imagine a native american child being silly and having fun because i've literally never seen that before and that is so fucked
#like i just. they've been mystified and their histories have been rewritten and erased and destroyed#to where i don't even have an image in my mind of them being normal fucking emotive humans#that's so supremely fucked up#that their entire culture has been boiled down to such few traits that seeing anything beside that is surprising#like oh my fucking GOD there is such little fucking representation in media of native peoples#i was severely socially isolated growing up so the way i learned about other cultures was solely via media#and the fact that the only native representation i saw as a child was between fucking peter pan and pocahontas#so: blatant racism and fully rewriting history#and then a few shitty books i read in elementary school about white kids “becoming” natives by. living in a tribe for a year or smthn#and that's ALL I GOT???#so in my head i literally just have a single homogenized image of the HUNDREDS of groups of natives OF THIS ENTIRE FUCKING CONTINENT#i've never met a native person. in my racist ass hometown they were talked about like a fucking extinct species.#like as in. i was genuinely told in schools that native tribes just fully dont exist anymore.#i was assigned projects speculating about them in the exact same way we did with fucking dinosaurs and ice age animals#and all this has been so deeply ingrained into my skull that *i literally cannot imagine a native child FUCKING LAUGHING*#that's so supremely fucked up like. i dont even have a good conclusion to my thought here that's just fucked up.

So here's a question you definitely haven't asked but I'm going to answer anyways: "Why do most of the spinocons have that funky helm crest?" Examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, there's actually a real answer for that that's ancient as fuck, and it's Mattel's fault!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had (2/3, never had the blue one but saw it a million times) these types of toys when I was super little, actually still have that green rex out back and I'm starting to realize that wow mine is faded as shit—
Anyways. Kid me took one look at this little goofy head ornamentation and took it as an indisputable fact. I drew it in EVERY spino depiction I made for way too long until it finally clicked in my head that "hey, that might just be artistic interpretation" but I still make frequent references to this rather silly assumption

do u ever create a character, pour your own little quirks into her and then have a very good friend who has autism hold her by the scruff and go: “did you mean to make her on the spectrum?” like....*stares at my own two hands*
