I like the idea that the Matrix was said to contain "The wisdom of the Primes" and while it kind of DOES, what he actually got was the ability to commune with the Primes, and while everyone expects them to be a well of wisdom they're kind of just normal people and tell Optimus that Megatron's a glitch.

He's basically just got 13 older annoying siblings.

some times collective wisdom means knowing how to build and lead an entire army while restructuring your entire society after decades of oppression.

others it means knowing that mixing the cybertronian equivalent of vodka and tequila is a Stupid Idea and you will definitely regret it oh my god-

and being the youngest of fourteen sometimes means knowing that and doing it anyway lmao

I have been watching your work for some time now and I am very pleased with each of your works! I would like to ask if you are going to give a "cygate child" (I think you can call it that?) any name? Are you going to come up with a great story for this idea or not? (although even these small works are very interesting!) Thank you in advance for your reply!

Hey and thank you for your ask and your compliments - it always makes me happy that the things I doodle can entertain someone else. This is going to be a little wall of text, oops. There is a set of doodles at the end!

It's extra funny when it all started as a joke after me and my friend saw the Cyclonus funko and went wow. And I thought it was funny they gave him blue??? optics for some reason? So I was gripped with the inspiration to draw that silly meme about "9 months in the womb and they look like their mum". And it all snowballed from there.

To be honest, I do wish to give the Cygate child a name; funnily enough I was talking to my friend about this yesterday before you sent me this ask... Names are hard. I was brainstorming a few, where wind is honestly the biggest reoccurring theme. So far I have;

Aerostorm - Aero means wind.

Bora - Bora is the name of a specific wind, but also a specific model of car! So both Cyclonus and Tailgate in there I suppose. :] Could alternatively end up as Borae just for the flow of the name. HOWEVER Springer is apparently known as Bora in Italian!

Stormsurge - Because stormsurges follow cyclones. :]

Derecho - A widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm, causing hurricane-force winds, heavy rains, and flash floods.

Microburst - Another wind-related one, a strong downward and outward gushing wind that comes from above. Also a play on how the sparkling originally was very small when they emerged, but as they grow they turn out quite large...

The list might not be complete and I need to marinate it in my mind a bit <:] THEY HAVE BEEN NAMED! See this post

For a story - I am not a writer, and most of the time I am talking my friend's ear full about this hsdfgdf but I do have some basic ideas while a lot is still a bit up in the air, I suppose. Some of this is also based on the info from MTMTE/LL so possible spoilers if you haven't read the comics!

This sparkling is an accident.

Tailgate nor Cyclonus didn't really think this was possible since they are old by most of the other mechs' standards, Tailgate having gone through cybercrosis and Cyclonus having been for lengths in the Dead Universe. No way their bodies would have such resources to start creating anything like that. But maybe the fact that Cyclonus donated some of his spark energy to Tailgate made it a very small possibility that wouldn't have been able to happen otherwise because of the state of their history.

Despite my initial meme drawing, I think Cyclonus would be the one who ended up sparked because he is larger and seems to have a more fancy build. His body just happens to have more resources to deal with building something inside it. I don't really picture them changing shapes when sparked, but having some kind of dedicated spot/mechanism to build a sparkling.

Therefore there is even less hints to what is happening below the outer plating. I haven't quite decided/figured it out but: - either they find out when Cyclonus ends up getting some strange pains and/or commands trying to activate that he is not familiar with - and then bam congrats to the parents!!! Cue very baffled and surprised Cyclonus and Tailgate trying to process what just happened while this very tiny thing is going through their start up tests. - or Tailgate/Cyclonus randomly notices this new, odd EM-field/communication connection when the sparkling has developed enough to be able to emit EM-fields and/or connect with means of communication somehow. Again cue very baffled and surprised Cygate and then having to drag Ratchet into the whole ordeal to see what is going on.

Despite being an oopsie sparkling and a big surprise to everyone, they are much loved and both Tailgate and Cyclonus are very happy and proud despite this not being something they had envisioned or planned for. They will take the challenges as they come.

The sparkling emerges soooo small. As their frame grows though they quickly gain mass and get quite large, maybe even larger than Cyclonus? My friend suggested maybe they end up a shuttle-class despite their alt-mode being a jet/plane or so after Cyclonus. Whirl is the extremely ecstatic uncle, even if he finds the sparkling very aesthetically displeasing he has a lot of love for this thing that Cyclonus and Tailgate somehow morbidly made, despite that Whirl would never imagine them being somehow compatible like that. He is an important part of the family and helps raising the sparkling, keeping them safe from anyone he deems scary and letting nobody insult them because only he can do that, teaching them curse words, having fun and enjoying life.

I have not settled on if this happens during the whole Lost Light travel/while onboard the Lost Light, or if this happens after they all part and Cygate lives in Upper Tetrahex. Lost Light would be fun for plot/comedic idea reasons, but also so stressful to most of the adults involved haha. Upper Tetrahex would probably be much more peaceful for both sparkling and adults, but less possibilities for comedic moments I suppose as most of their close friends beyond Whirl would be spread across Cybertron and such.

Anyways that was such a wall of text, I am not sure if I got down the basics of my thoughts but rounding this off with some doodles I did saturday night that builds on that idea of "unknown EM-field/com-port" thing.

WHAT?!?! Surely Optimus did that by accident tho cause Genvo is like a teenager— right?! 😭

We don't know the full story of what exactly went on in that moment, but the decepticons were running away and blasting everything in their path, with Genvo even grabbing Ulchtar to run with him because the autobots were following them. The projectile that hit Starscream and the blast that hit Genvo were both fired from behind them, likely meaning it was an autobot attack. Whether or not Optimus meant to kill Genvo (I'm assuming it was him who did it since his gun was smoking) is something we don't know, as this flashback is from Starscream's perspective and cuts off just as he witnesses Optimus arrive

It could have been an accident, but also based on dialog from the previous issues, it sounds like that Optimus might've once had a cruel streak of his own. It's a very interesting setup going on!

And on the teenager aspect, I'm assuming that all the cybertronians present in the series so far are at some level of adulthood. We don't yet know how they're made in the continuity, or if they even have a life cycle, but I think it's fair to guess that they're not kids. Young, sure, but not that young

I’m just imagining a random Autobot and Decepticon being thrown into that universe by *insert vague cybertronian artifact here*. Neither of them are any of the main cast, but are fully willing to continue throwing down despite the change in location! Until—they see what are obviously Quintessons essentially blackmailing the “Prime” of this universe into harvesting energon. Quintessons are one of the worst enemies in Cybertronian history, is it’s eerie seeing a tense truce of sorts.

The Autobot and Decepticon realize that cybertronians work very differently in this universe given all this “no-cog” discrimination. Both of them, obviously, have a transformation cog—yet not in such an obvious configuration as the Transformer: One cybertronians have.

Reluctantly, the two decide to form a tense truce because Quintessons are very much the bigger enemy here. When the main four: Orion Pax, Elite-1, D-16, and Bee (can’t remember his pre-cog name) go to find the Matrix of Leadership. They are pretty shocked to see two adult bots already at the Fallen Primes…

Safe to say—Alpha Trion is very confused when he wakes up to four cogless transformers and two adults who can transform… (Decepticon is reeling from seeing a young adult Megatron, Autobot is taking subtly pictures of Orion Pax. They are never going to let Optimus live this down.)

Hmm, I think he already qualifies for adhd to some extent, I mean he is very compulsive- so I feel like if someone were to give him an energy drink it would either amplify his energy levels or really not have any effect on him other than him saying that he’s still tired but his spark beat is wayyyyy faster than normal.

IDW Transformers’ take on the war and the origins of the Decepticons was one of those things that was rly thoughtful and interesting to read as a kid (so as the target demographic I guess lol) only as an adult to have some rly troubling implications like the ones you pointed out. I was EXTREMELY relieved that TF One swapped it back so that the Autobots are the low-class miners and the Decepticons were the military (closer to the original cartoon anyway) while still using the IDW comics as inspiration in other ways.

Transformers One is such a strange case for me because on the one hand, it's propaganda. I'm sorry but it's transparently propaganda, it's executives embracing IDW's attempt at "maturity" that well-intentioned or not, inevitably paints the revolutionaries as villains by having them arbitrarily blow up an orphanage, because we gotta demonize revolutionaries who use violence.

We gotta warn kids of the dangers of the violent revolution, because revolution is only permitted if peaceful! Let's just ignore what we were taught about the American Revolution... Seriously, look at the elites' response to Brian Thompson's assassination!

That being said. This is like 95% speculation. But there are clear differences between IDW and Transformers One. So to me, personally, it feels like the writers —Eric Pearson, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari— were aware of the issues of the IDW premise. They were given a basic outline by executives. And so they opted to smooth over the issues as much as they could, work with it, while still being stuck with that basic problem at the end of the day.

So as you've said, I appreciate Orion and D-16 being working-class bots, that they're both coming from the same place. I appreciate the framing of Orion's opposition coming from the concept of Anti-Death Penalty, that no government should have the power to execute people. I appreciate the implications of D-16 siding with disgruntled military soldiers, whose only idea of fixing society is to destroy enemies.

There's something to be said about people who fantasize purely on committing violence, without any of the actual work of rebuilding and keeping things running! That's why Orion's rebellion consists of his fellow miners. I can see the implication, that even if D-16 hadn't gone off, there would inevitably be friction between the High Guard's jingoism and the civilians when Orion reformats things, and bans the death penalty.

...But again, again! D-16 is a black man. Not literally but he's voiced by Brian Tyree Henry, anyone can hear his voice. And his chanting of "Rise up" is juxtaposed with Orion Pax, who is voiced by white MCU star Chris Hemsworth. It feels ridiculous how the movie bends over backwards to paint D-16 as evil with shots of civilians running away from the convenient collateral of his shots, but nothing like that is ever shown with our protagonists and their damage!

B slicing up other Cybertronians is treated as a gag, but Sentinel's life and death matters more than his guards' which is uh. A weird way to frame things. I guess maybe it's because D-16 is doing it out of "reckless anger" whereas B isn't trying to...? But ultimately, the violence of our protagonists is meant to be framed as out of strict necessity, which is something I have to acknowledge.

I can't say for sure what Pearson, Barrer, and Ferrari were thinking. I appreciate Transformers One for smoothing out the edges. But I can't help but see D-16 as a pastiche of BLM activists, of the UHC shooter, because he's willing to be angry and violent towards his oppressors. He's a black man who gets branded and his violence is treated as exceptional and unique because of his anger, meanwhile B's kills are a gag.

There's an irony in that Sentinel's higher-class life is treasured by the narrative, but the lives of his comparatively lower-class bodyguards are worth nothing. The pervasiveness, it felt insidious; It genuinely kept me from enjoying the final battle between Optimus and Megatron, how the narrative wants to be triumphant but the dark undertone can’t be ignored. Call me a buzzkill.

I know people think this sort of trope is meant to be 'nuanced', that it makes for a more 'interesting' villain, one you can relate to and sympathize with. See yourself in. But in the end, you can only go so far in "reclaiming" a stereotype. You can't be in utter denial of the subtext and intention behind it. You can't claim this is actually good writing, I thought we were liking these villains out of spite, not in support of a narrative we think is secretly on our side too!

That executives need a revolution story where the ultimate villain who causes even more violence in the long run is, GASP, a revolutionary who shows people like them no mercy, is telling. There can only be a revolution in media if it shows the elite being deliberately spared at all costs, even to the point of Orion sacrificing his own life (Even if for D-16’s soul), while their own workers like those bodyguards are just fodder.

G1 was not the pinnacle of Leftist media but it was also inoffensive and knew what it was. This is… different.

mmhhh not parental per say, but some do take on more caretaking roles than others.

Prima especially takes to fussing over OP like a duck to water. he's a bit of a mother-hen by nature, but as the rest of his siblings are much closer to his age there was a limit to how much nagging they would take from him. but OP being so, so, so much younger than all of them and also very emotionally vulnerable when they met him activated Prima's caretaking instincts like a sleeper agent.

and OP appreciates this a little more than he thought he would. had it been at any other point of his life he probably would've resented the coddling but they met at a moment where OP needed that support. and Prima's enthusiasm for it made him feel a lot less guilty for leaning on him than he does with almost everyone else.

Alpha Trion doesn't fuss over OP nearly as much as Prima does, but he does have a soft spot for him that's a bit different than the rest of his siblings. and OP never completely gets rid of the awe he felt at meeting Alpha Trion back in that cave. so they're both closer to each other because of that experience, while having a degree of separation between them that doesn't exist with the rest of the Primes, which makes their relationship a little bit less sibling-ish than with everyone else.

then there's Zeta. i think he and OP have the most mentor/apprentice relationship out of all them, not because Zeta loves him any less but because he's so desperate to keep him alive that it manifests as him being kinda strict and a bit harsh towards Optimus. to be clear he's not cruel or cold with him! not at all! he's just the one that pushes OP the most towards bettering himself in every aspect possible, because he's terrified any slip up will lead to his death, just like it did with the rest of his siblings. which is perhaps not very fair of him but it comes from a place of genuine love and care.

and OP takes everything Zeta says to heart, be it guidance, criticism or praise. he wants to measure up to the legacy Zeta left behind as the first Matrix holder and is constantly worried he won't be worthy of the responsibility he was given, so he's always eager to learn more from him. it takes them quite a bit to reach a place where OP feels confident enough in himself to push against Zeta's input without feeling like he's about to irremediably fuck up.

but to be fair all the Primes are mentor figures to OP! every single one of them has something different to teach him (as much as it pains him to admit it when Liege is being a glitch) so they all fill in that spot in his life at some point of another.

It’s kind of one of my favourite things to do on here besides writing the stories and providing content for two other fandoms. (… I’m still working on that last one.) and as for your questions I’ll happily answer! It’s just gonna be long answers-.

1) megatron’s normally a single parent for the franchise, but if I have to say who the other parent is? I’mma say it’s either shutter, an oc or from the well (… there’s a lot of headcanon’s about that one-.)

Sometimes I like to add Optimus as the other parent for shenanigans… and also a good ship fic, but it’s mostly for the shenanigans tho-.

I haven’t written Shutter in anything yet… (I didn’t know she’s his mom until a week ago or 2) She’s only there in the lost heir au… not g1, g1 megs is still a single father/mother. (… she’s mostly dead in a lot of these… damn, sorry shutter-.)

2) if it’s g1… bumblebee doesn’t really have any special features, he inherited his charm, determination… sometimes the head panels from the IDW comics-.

Animated…? He has fangs, it’s not visually dangerous, it’s just cute… like a cat. But then I dove deeper and had an idea of giving TFA! And… some (it’s 2 at the moment) variants of bumblebee a glitch that makes his optics red.

He still has his autobot blue, it just… sometimes glitches to red if triggered. (That one’s a working progress, sometimes I don’t even add it-) The heritage part is always fun to experiment and explore.

Either way he got most of his upgrades from his autobot heritage. (A double answer for both the first and second questions)
