I agree on wishing they hadn't brought the abusive dynamic to Earthspark because, while it's nuanced, this is a kids show. It's rated TV-Y7. "Abusers can change" is an incredibly complex and sensitive topic of discussion and I don't feel like this show has the capacity to handle that. Im not saying kids shows CANT address difficult subjects, but this particular one doesn't feel like it will be addressed well, and as a victim myself I'm almost scared to watch it play out.
Warning--criticism of the writing for ep. 21. If that's not your cup of tea, please skip. You are absolutely allowed to have loved that episode as many people did. I just think it could have been done differently, and that's my opinion. You don't have to read this or like this if you disagree with that.
Yes! And let me just say I think it's something that's definitely always needed to be brought up in a serious manner, especially where Starscream is able to seriously process what he's been through and have it addressed. But on a kids show, split over two seasons?
I think that's irresponsible. Because what is the message being communicated to seven year olds? Especially kids that liked Megatron but might be dealing with abuse in their own households.
And I second your belief that kids shows can portray it. There's been kids shows that have handled abuse, I mean even with bullying they've portrayed bullies as sympathetic characters who've got a shit ton going on at home, but they didn't really do that?
I just don't understand the point of spanning something so sensitive over two seasons. Maybe if Megatron wasn't the main character who's nuance and redemption has made him seem like a 'safe' person, than I could understand. But he is, and the rode that's been chosen with him is that he's a good person trying to do better. And while I don't think he attacked Starscream due to regression or out of malice (It was most likely his fear for Hashtag), it happened. He learned from it, and offered Starscream space and grace at the end, but there was such little attention given to it that many people gloss over it, at least for Megatron.
You're left with a bad taste in your mouth over a character who's supposed to be a good person because the writing didn't flesh it out, at all. And yes, he has slip ups. But again, think of the audience. Think of what little we're left with. They should have dedicated way more time to Starscream and Megatron's storyline.
And even then, what's the message for Starscream? It's okay to kick women if you've been abused because you're not in control of your actions? You don't have to apologize for it, that's just comic relief? You can hurt innocent humans and that's not your fault because bad things happened to you?
That pissed me off lol.
Had they allowed more time for dialogue, an actual apology from Megatron acknowledging what he did, but also insight into his own character and actions, I would have appreciated that. If it fleshed out the implications for Megatron going forward, I would have appreciated that. If it had some refelctions that let the audience know, "Oh he's still changing, and just because he did this doesn't mean he's bad" i would have liked that.
I think the same should have been done to Starscream. As opposed to all of the other Decepticons that escaped, they painted him as the most sympathetic, when in reality he's most likely one of the most dangerous. That's what freaked out Megatron. And I feel like that was a huge cop out, because it glosses over the redemption he actually needs to go through.
The message has always been bad people do bad things, but can be good in ES. I feel like that was a missed opportunity to expand on that for both Megatron and Starscream.
Also, you're totally valid in how you feel. I felt the same way. like i'm not upset with it, but I think it should have been done much better with more care and grace to both the characters and the audience.

For people who never really watched alot of Transformers: what would you recommend watching for beginners to the fandom/series?
It really depends on what flavor people are in the mood for. Each series has its own spin on the original Transformers formula and its (huge) main cast. Some series are geared toward either very young kids, teens and/or young adults. Then there is 2D and 3D animation.
I can't just name one series as the ultimate "see as a newbie", it just doesn't work that way. So, here is a short list with accompanying gifs of shows/movies I'd recommend for anyone wishing to wander into Transformers.
There is G1 (Generation 1), the 80s cartoon that started it all, but it's dated with its writing and animation quality. It can be cheesy and boring/slow, or downright silly, but oh so charming in that 80s cartoon sense xD But it is what aaaallll the other stuff is based on so if one wants to start at the roots of the transforming robo madness, I'd suggest giving G1 and its sequel movie (the 80s one) a watch.
The recent Transformers One movie is a great watch for a beginner as well! It has a different introduction to the main characters and world-building than previous Transformers retellings but it is still Transformers at its very core with jaw-dropping animation and a strong story. Don't be fooled by its "haha see how funny and dumb this "kids" movie is??" trailers and terrible marketing; plenty of fans are still angry about that xD
If you want something a bit more modern and similar in style to the Michael Bay blockbuster movies from the 2000s, I'd suggest Transformers Prime. It's a bit more mature in tone compared to other shows, the writing is stellar, and the 3D animation is great.
Other series that can also function as a good starting point are Transformers Animated and Earthspark. Animated's style might turn one away but it has some good writing and is easy to follow. Earthspark is the latest animated series out there and though season 2 and 3 aren't that great, season 1 is peak, as is its animation and cast.
If you enjoy(ed) the good old Digimon series and that particular style of anime, Transformers Robots in Disguise (2001) and Armada might be more to your taste, so be ready for some silly 90s anime shenanigans.
And if you want to go super kid-friendly, Rescue Bots is there for you to start out with!
There are so many more shows to watch but I'd say these are the ones one can watch without needing much backstory to understand what is happening.

I have thoughts about Megatron and Starflare—- I have THOUGHTS!!!!
I think maybe Megatron feels special about Starchaser in a way that the others on the Lost Light might not realize at first- but- Megatron had the loyalty of the city of Vos right? Almost the entirety of Seeker culture was centered there- so Megatron *definitely* is savvy in understanding flyer culture and little details- little body language cues, all sorts of stuff-
How much must he appreciate having a flyer who loves him *not* out of a sense of war loyalty, but out of genuine appreciation for his person? Surely he must notice so many little body language moments from Star- that maybe Star doesn’t notice himself…. I’m melting.
Even if Megatron had no allegiances with Vos, seekers were a big and valued part of his army. And Megatron knows his army; he knows most of his followers by name and that's a lot of names xD I wouldn't be surprised if he noticed certain quirks between different classes/types among his ranks, particularly from the ones who worked closely with him, like Starscream.
Starflare isn't actually a seeker but an Autobot M.T.O., but he's still a flier so sure, there are a few habits and quirks he has in common with the seekers.
However, he didn't have any trinemates or other Autobot fliers during the Great War to be influenced by or show him the ropes. He was activated, taught a few things, and then thrown straight into the war. I wouldn't be surprised if there are little "flier" habits he isn't fully aware of, and as you mused about, Megatron (and other seekers/fliers) might pick up on. I would have to think about what those could be, it didn't really cross my mind before but it is an interesting thought.
update:
That's criminally cute xDD
#q and a#transformers#transformers oc#starflare#starflare is a seeker in earthspark but his OG (aka IDW) version is an M.T.O.#who knew 'spying' on a guy would make you appreciate him more ¦D#the lost light is all about second chances even for a war criminal or a flier who said no to war and settled on some rock in space

absolutely no nsfw art/writing/propaganda - one of the mods is a minor. obviously, mechpreg is allowed and does not count.
@smoked-salmon-official mod uses xe/it/they pronouns!
As many of you may know, unfortunately, due to botting, Megatron was disqualified from @need-him-pregnant-poll contest do to botting issues. To make up for it, I will be running a poll contest with Megatrons from all different continuities of Transformers in a similar vein...
this is the bracket! all versions were put into a random wheel and spun to determine who was up against who in waht order, to ensure absolute fairness.
The bracket will be updated accordingly with each round. To keep track of the latest results, use the poll links or #concluded polls.
Every version of the poll will run for one week. First round polls will be posted in batches of two every other day and the bracket will be updated accordingly at the end of each round.
Propoganda is encouraged and I will try my best to reblog all of it. However, though mechpreg is obviously allowed, no NSFW or valveplug. Suggestive is okay! I will let you know if/when the line between suggestive and nsfw is crossed.

The Quintessons also got cards.

While we don’t know for sure if there’s other members of their race yet, these are a pretty big departure from the original designs, which have remained somewhat consistent.

Most notably the absence of the most recognizable Quintesson Judge is curious. There’s nothing that says they’re not there, but usually the Judge types are front and center for things, so removing them for a new High Command version is interesting.
The High Command and Soldier designs seem closer to some one off Quintessons from the 80’s cartoon.

The Quintessons have a somewhat complex conceptual history.
Their earliest concept looked like this.

A psychic biomechanical humanoid whose psychic abilities were so great they could make a horde of Sharkticons from scrap metal in an instant and probe the galaxy with a simple mind scan. Their head was apparently their true form, as it would eject and fly to another body when Hot Rod tried threatening it. The biomechanical look would persist for their final designs, but more modern media via Aligned and Cyberverse would instead state they’re actually organic creatures that look something like this:

Revealing their robotic bodies as merely being suits they pilot. It’s not clear yet if this is also the case in EarthSpark or ONE, though ONE feels like this is what they’re supposed to actually look like, but more organic this time than robotic as they typically are.
Some further revisions to the 80’s movie scripts and marketing of the time originally cast the Quintessons as working directly for Unicron, their mock trials were to punish and destroy any lingering survivors of Unicron’s wrath that passed by Quintessa. While this idea never made it into the original film, it was used in the Marvel comics and later revisited in early BotCon comics, but never became hard canon. The UK comics would make them into aliens clinging for survival as their home planet was destroyed by a time anomaly caused by the time traveling Galvatron. Running out of options, the Quints attacked Autobot City on Earth to try and colonize it, but were driven off by Rodimus Prime and Metroplex, their fate unknown but nevertheless swearing revenge on the Transformers.
The final version of the Quintessons in the cartoon cast them as the ancient creators of the Transformers, with some media explaining they also created Cybertron by terraforming a planet into a factory world (at least it wasn’t a parking structure planet). The cartoon would also establish them as slimy business men, having their tentacles in the affairs of other species for financial gain. Along with the Transformers starting out as in universe products to sell, it seems the writers might’ve been having a laugh at Hasbro.
The Quints’ primary goal in the cartoon was to push the Autobots aside so they could regain control of Cybertron, often conning the Decepticons into doing their dirty work for them. Where the Quints came from is never clear, as the show implies Cybertron was more their home planet originally due to their sentimental attachment to it. Their supposed home planet, Quintessa, is implied to merely be another planet they terraformed after getting booted off Cybertron.
Due to the more popular Primus origin from the Marvel comics, the Quintessons and their hand in the creation of Cybertron and its people was largely ignored in most mainstream media. While they saw a homage in Alpha Q in Energon (the connection to the Quintessons made stronger in the Energon Dreamwave comics), they didn’t really start resurfacing as major characters again until recently. The BotCon comics attempted to reconcile the two origins, stating the Primus origin was also the case in the cartoon, with the Quints interfering in the process, and this early idea served as the basis for the Aligned canon, where the Quints did the same in Cybertron’s early years, conning the young race into becoming their allies (servants), by bestowing both the futuristic space fairing technology Cybertronians enjoy today, their modern hierarchy (that became the corrupt caste system Megatron fought against) and the ability to Transform. Apparently the robots technically could already Transform as they all had Cogs, they just hadn’t LEARNED to Transform yet. Like the 80’s cartoon, these Quints intended to sell off the Transformers as products to the galaxy, with Sentinel (Zeta) Prime installed as their figurehead leader like in TFONE. Eventually they were chased off like in the old cartoon, but Prime nor RiD15 would ever revisit the Quintessons, though the prequel novels nobody read did claim the Autobots and Decepticons briefly became antagonized by them once more during the hunt for the Allspark in space.
Aligned’s main difference that’s fueled most modern interpretations is the Quintessons are the creations of Quintus Prime one of the newly established 13 original Transformers.

Aligned implies they killed Quintus and stole what they needed from him to become space fairing and eventually go to Cybertron, conquering other planets along the way.
The Quints were intended to be allies to Cybertron, as were other Quintus borne races, but this was not meant to be, due to the Quints’ hubris. EarthSpark’s version says the Quints were the first sons of the Prime, and in trying to discover their purpose, they became bitter and developed daddy issues, going around and killing off their cousins on other planets, attempting to acquire the Emberstone for their own use. The Quints and Transformers are strongly aware of each other, and clearly fought before, but their exact relationship has not been established yet, if at all.
TFONE greatly simplifies it to the Quints being an alien race that attacked Cybertron during the time of the Primes, though the hows and whys aren’t clear. What is clear is the jealous Sentinel made a bargain, helping them destroy the Primes and letting him be in control in exchange for paying them off in Energon to leave Cybertron alone. It’s not clear if Quintus Prime created the Quints in this universe, but there is a resemblance.

Quintus at some point: Sorry guys, you know how kids are!
Despite the Quintus origin, some modern media has gone back to the 80’s cartoon origin. Notably Age of Extinction and The Last Knight returning to the aliens created the Transformers idea, but the movies not directly using the Quintessons. However concept art does suggest the original intent WAS supposed to be the Quintessons…

Instead all we have is an alien hand and later Quintessa to go by.

It’s never clarified if the two are related, with Quintessa possibly being a Transformer and a Prime as well, but she is also called a liar by those formally in her employ so… She IS able to reprogram Optimus into doing her bidding however, so there’s that. She’s clearly inspired by Quintus, but isn’t connected beyond that. Her goal was to restore Cybertron by draining Earth of its life force and destroy Unicron in one fell swoop (as Earth is inexplicably Unicron again like in Prime). The organic Creators meanwhile were responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs, deploying bombs that converted organics into cyber matter that made the metal of the Transformers. Lockdown was working for the Creators, but with the abrupt inclusion of Quintessa, it’s not clarified if he was working for her instead/also.
Cyberverse cast the Quintessons as major villains, but instead of the creation origin, they depicted them as trans dimensional entities that travel to other Transformers universes to judge them guilty and destroy them for no other reason other than they can. Truly the best kind of villain: petty. Still this Dr. Who meets The Matrix direction with them doesn’t appear to be at all popular despite the arc being regarded positively. I still think Cyberverse is awful top to bottom, but the general idea they went for is decent. The Primes exist here, as noted previously with Alchemist Prime, but it’s never stated if these Quintessons are related to Quintus Prime.
Netflix War For Cybertron and Skybound Energon Universe also return to the Quintesson origin for the Transformers, though in the former’s case, their connection, if any, to the Allspark is never clarified. Skybound’s Void Rivals is currently the main component using the Quints, and dialog heavily implies the cartoon origin, though some minor Aligned concepts creep up as well. Nevertheless the Quintus origin doesn’t appear to be as… nailed down as Hasbro probably would like.
Indeed despite the resurgence in relevance, Hasbro seems somewhat reluctant to use the Quintessons still. The Quintus origin in the modern era had only been used in EarthSpark, and even then it’s not used… super well. The Steven Universe Diamonds that need a family intervention, never mind the genocide they caused, persists here to much chagrin. With the inconsistency on how the Quints came to be in modern media, it also makes Quintus Prime unnecessary, if some media is treating the Quints as separate beings. Even IDW didn’t do anything with this, despite using a lot of the Aligned concepts, and for now Skybound seems content to ignore it also.
I think the reluctance is due to toys of them not doing well, with the Cyberverse ones doing especially poorly. The High Command guy being able to Transform toy wise seems to be an attempt to make it clear they fit in with Transformers, but their peg warming doesn’t seem to be fixing that.
Along with Hasbro and Paramount not handing the transition from Bee to ROTB properly (like how do we jump from what Bee did to suddenly Unicron attacks?), I don’t have high expectations that the Quintessons will be handled well for a possible TFTWO, if they’re even used at all.
Which is a shame because the ONE designs are pretty cool, they made the Quints more appropriately scary and intimidating vs the slightly goofy looking egg shaped Judges. And I like the Judges but still.

So you've heard Earthspark Season 3 is pretty good
Or maybe you just want to see the small screen's post-IDW take on Everyone's Favorite War Criminal (I'm not judging) but you heard season 2 is a hot mess.
Fear not! Under the cut, I present the cliffnotes of season two, so you can easily go into season three without having to watch season two! (or even season one, I guess, because I'm an overachiever)
Season Two Cliffnotes:
Decepticons are bad again. Starscream is in charge.
Something (I forget what tbh) creates 'chaos energy' and 'chaos terrans' which are terrans, but 'born bad'. They're named Aftermath and I forget the other one, but she's essentially Twitch's evil twin.
At a carnival, Mo, and the Terrans (I think all of them? idk it doesn't matter) get caught up in the nonsense of a guy named Fairmaestro. The big twist is Fairmaestro's super cool UFO space carnival ride is actually Cosmos! He fucks off into space at the end of the ep. Meanwhile Robbie meets a girl named Izzy and has a crush.
The Decepticons have also decided fucking off into space is a good idea (they want to go back to Cybertron. I forget why the Autobots don't want to), except Starscream wants to kill Megatron and OP or something, I don't remember, so they don't. Or they might've been trying to get control of a space bridge?
Mo and Thrash (I think? Definitely Mo though) meet a Quintesson.
Starscream does Stuff and raises a Titan named Terrortronus who lives under Witwicky (I think), and is powered with chaos energy. (see above), which ends up draining Aftermath & Twitch's Evil Twin of energy. Starscream also gets something called the Cyberslayer (I think) that can kill cybertronians. But also bring them back?
The kids and the Terrans realize they can 'sync', which means they turn into a combiner ship thing or something and create a dome around Terrortronus and part of Witwicky, which results in all the Decepticons being contained. Because Starscream is stuck inside Terrortronus, Shockwave takes over the Decepticons, whose goals are now to 1) escape 2) fuck off to Cybertron.
Season 1 Cliffnotes:
First, I really recommend watching season 1! It's very fun and stands on its own.
Robbie and Mo (siblings) find the Emberstone and get these cool cybersleeves, which allow them to feel each other's emotions. Finding the Emberstone also brings about the creation of two new bots (Terrans) named Twitch and Thrash, who are Robbie and Mo's partners, respectively.
The kids' mom, Dot, fought in the war and is buddies with Megatron, who defected to the Autobots at some point. Their dad, Alex, is a college professor and a Bumblebee stan.
Transformers/Cybertronians are known to humanity and there's even a comic series about them!
The Autobots & Megatron are working for a secretive organization called G.H.O.S.T. (I forget what it stands for). G.H.O.S.T. has lots of secret bases and whatever. Agent Schloder works for G.H.O.S.T. and is also a Bumblebee stan.
Bumblebee and Breakdown are umm "brothers"
In the midseason finale (I think) Robbie and Mo end up creating three new Terrans: Hashtag, Nightshade, and Jawbreaker. Hashtag's whole thing is social media (obviously) and Nightshade is a nonbinary science prodigy who makes a whole secret base for the Maltos, Autobots, and Terrans. Jawbreaker is just kind of there for comic relief and/or secondhand embarrassment.
The main threat is a guy named Mandroid, who hates Cybertronians. G.H.O.S.T. eventually becomes a strong secondary antagonist.
Eventually the Autobots and Decepticons team up to take down Mandroid/G.H.O.S.T. These last two points aren't actually mentioned in season 3 but in the interest of full context, here you go.
F.A.Q.
Q: Um, I heard Tarantulas was in this show?
A: He's in Season 1 Episode 13, "Missed Connection". Unfortunately he doesn't show up again afterwards :( but he is in my heart, always.
Q: Soundwave ep? Is he divorced?
A: Watch Season 1 Episode 8 "Decoy" for all the answers.
Q: Is Wheeljack really yeehaw?
A: Yes. Laserbeak is ALSO yeehaw.
Q: Why don't the Autobots want to go back to Cybertron?
A: I honestly don't remember.
Q: Are you a Prowl stan? Is that why you made this post?
A: Per my blog description: "despite the title of my blog, i am actually a soundwave stan."
Unfortunately, Soundwave doesn't have enough screentime in this show (especially season 3) to justify a "Season 2 Cliffnotes so you can see Soundwave". Prowl is another favorite, though.
Q: Is Season 2 really that bad?
A: To be entirely honest, it killed my interest in transformers for the last five months! YMMV.
There. I've done it. Go enjoy Prowl.

Didn't have a chance to say this sooner due to preparing for a new job and attending TFCon Baltimore, but we really liked Season 3 of Earthspark, that and the Season 2 finale answered many of things we were hoping to be resolved from Season 1 with a resplendent glory and touching depth. Terratronus and the stuff she can do with the Terrans is so cool, and it was nice to see Elita and Arcee actually talk to each other, including about something they went through (also erm well the homoeroticism in that specific episode between the adult characters was great), and um yeah we don't want to spoil too much but this season was really the Steven Universe of Transformers (highly complimentary) and Nightshade got to have a much larger role again (and honestly is up there in terms of near godly powers like the one human antagonist from Season 2 and 3, who is basically a capitalist Q?)

Kit Harrison claiming he's "never heard" complaints about too many characters is something when Roberts admits in one of his Q&As that he was juggling too many.
On the point of how much Roberts in particular catered to a very specific fandom niche as well as the Q&As, I saw a criticism that the Q&As focused too much on shipping. They weren't wrong.
Like any other continuities, it has its strengths and its flaws. However, I would say the fandom does a terrible job at recognizing that and are getting to be on par with "geewunners".
I don't want to be too much of a curmudgeon here, so let me start by saying that IDW's run was not entirely bad writing, boring relationships, and sheer hatred from everyone involved towards all but that more insular fandom. Some of the dialogs could be clever, and the crossovers, more often than not, were a ton of fun. I'm still sad they could never figure out how to make Fortress Tiberius from their Star Trek crossover (Fortress Maximus with the original Enterprise as an alt-mode) an actual toy after it looked cool in the comic.
That being said, Harrison was definitely deflecting. It's easy to defend "too gay". The people complaining are just bigots! And you'd better believe that was a constant go-to during the IDW years, not helped by the fact that a minority of a minority of the criticism was bigoted in nature, and that was used to paint all the criticism as such. It's much harder to defend the cast being bloated beyond all belief and the focus on romance resulting in a muddled, uniteresting mess. At the same time, I'm glad to hear Roberts admitted that he was dealing with too many characters. I may utterly despise his writing, but I have nothing against the guy personally.
I think because the IDW fandom is so insular and dedicated since it was designed to be such, it is inevitably going to have a narrow view on what is acceptable and what is not. And they were upfront about it. "I want to focus on romance and if you don't like it, too bad." "I don't like this aspect of the franchise, and if you do, too bad." The thing is, like many a Gee-Wunner, there is no compromise. You can do something heavily inspired by G1 but still be its own thing. The Transformers Armada video game for PS2 openly cribs half its dialog from Transformers the Movie but is still considered a great (if difficult) game that uses the Armada designs and gimmicks effectively to create a fun game. The Energon Universe is essentially Ultimate Universe G1, in which it takes the core cartoon from 1984, adds in GI Joe, and mixes everything together with 40 years of hindsight and and a desire for smooth integration to make something that is vastly different from the original cartoon and comic, and is actually resonating with the audience. But being a purist like many of those IDW fans are, and like some of the more hardcore Gee-Wunners are, saying "Only this way of treating the material is acceptable, and if you disagree, you're either a manchild or a chud" is a recipie for failure. Isn't that right Earthspark?

Energon is pretty much only dangerous to organics if a story requires it to be.
Organic lifeforms in the G1 cartoon freely used it for various things with no ill effects. It was even used as money in an alien gambling casino.
I don’t remember that specifically happening in TFA, but what I do remember is a lab accident that resulted in Prometheus Black mutating into the acid creature Meltdown after experimenting with with separate Autobot fuel that leaked from Bumblebee in a wrestling match. Also, perhaps closer to what you meant now that I think of it: BlackArachnia was tampering with Sari’s Allspark Key, hoping it would remove her organic mode once she inserted it into her chest, but instead it was starting to weaken her, with a pulse wave aging nearby organics thanks to BA’s meddling. It was reversed once Sari and Optimus removed the Key from BA, and never brought up again, but that only happened due to BA messing around and not something the Allspark Key did unchecked.
Kicker was bestowed the power of Energon by Primus himself, and beyond heightened awareness (as well as possible super strength to be able to fight Terrorcons) and his hair going Super Saiyan when he detected Energon, Kicker suffered no ill effects. Though that said I would think the Lord of Light himself would see to it Kicker suffered no ill consequences when he bestowed his power. Humans work alongside Autobots and Omnicons to mine for Energon, and suffer no harm the deposits or processing. Energon in the anime is also described as the power of life itself, with Alpha Q’s Energon Sun providing light and accelerated healing and evolution to lifeforms on planets Alpha Q was able to recreate using it and Unicron’s power.
The organic humanoids of the Sacred Ring from Skybound’s Energon Universe can also consume Energon, and find they don’t need to eat food because the Energon sustains them. The catch though is the Agorrians and Zertonians are also revealed to be descendants of Transformers somehow, perhaps explaining how they can safely ingest it. Meanwhile, Energon deposits on Earth were discovered by the Dreadlocks, who were able to process it and power their vehicles. Cobra Commander and Destro also seek to use Energon for their own benefit and suffer no consequences being near raw Energon or Energon Cubes. This may change though as the Energon Universe continues, but the Autobots set up a water powered Energon generator for themselves and to give back renewable energy to Spike and Carly’s hometown.
Mandroid being negatively affected by it is specific to EarthSpark to better show how far he’s willing to go for his goals, but I don’t think he thought it through either. I would think the Emberstone has some Energon mixed into it and the Maltos suffer no consequences being near it let alone having the Cyber Sleeves for the most part.
At this point, I still question how bad Energon is for human health... like, there is a clear inconsistency for every new TF interaction but even in the aligned continuity the idea is bounced like a ball to all directions...
In TF Unicron Trilogy: Energon, Kick was sent countless times in search of Energon by his stupid father only because the kid had the special power to detect Energon... and then use the Energon to give Kick a power armor or something like that IDK.
In TFA it is shown how the mere presence of the All Spark can kill human cells and literally rot a human... but also reverse the process????
On TFP it is said that Energon is lethal, and it was shown with Raf after Megatron shut him with his Dark Energon canon. But then they have to sue pure Energon to save Raf and there are not other consequences after that...
In TFRB Blurr and Slavage gave a caveman a small Energon Crystal so he survived the current disaster that was destroying his home. IT. LITERALLY. KEEP. A. HUMAN. ALIVE! I keep the guy like a frozen fruit in the fridge kjahkajfhLSF
In TFES... IDK I don't remember well, but Mandroid was decaying in life. We could see his whole body rotting as the season passed. With Robby happened the same but at a much faster alarming rate...
And then there's the thing with the Botbots. I'm surprised no one has sued the store because the exposure to their products is causing limb loss, skin rotting, blood loss, sickness, and IDK what else jhdakjefhakf
I think that I might be forgetting more specific scenes and extra info, so feel free to discuss.

The Trigger collab animation came out and it’s the best thing Transformers has done in the current decade.
Truly a love letter to Transformers from G1 to EarthSpark, it squeezes in everything it possibly can from most media. However the catch is that it’s only animated media and the live action movies, the comics (any assorted manga, Marvel, Dreamwave, IDW & Skybound) aren’t referenced, while some Japanese exclusive stuff gets a lil’ bit more attention (understandable since it’s, y’know, Japanese fans being nostalgic about the anime they grew up with).

Transformers Go, Q-Transformers, and the Beast Wars anime got particular attention.

This shot of Liger Megatron and Green Lion Lio Convoy is especially cool.
I think initially I was expecting a Trigger animated greatest hits from select moments from each show, and while they still technically do that in spots…

It’s mostly a mega crossover with different characters interacting otherwise.

And it’s all the better for it.
I mean where else are you gonna find TFA Optimus about to smash Masterforce Overlord’s face in?

There’s no real narrative, it’s just random cool shots though the closest thing to a framing device is the PV opening with Vector Prime looking down on Cybertron across all time lines.
Regarding EarthSpark’s contributions to the short, they’re minimal. The Terrans and Mandroid don’t appear at all, which is a little bizarre.
ES Megatron appears among the other Decepticon leaders instead of being with ES Optimus on the Autobot leader side.

You’d think Mandroid would be there next to BWII Galvatron instead, but I guess not. Sadly they omitted RiD15 Steeljaw too, instead using RiD15 Megatronus Prime’s floating head.
SatAM Robotnik voice: Ah well, life is not perfect.
The main ES rep are the Maltos.

This just reinforces ES needed to be 2D, because they actually look good. Roche’s style doesn’t work in 3D.
Anyway the human cast they chose for this final shot amuses me.

Love seeing my favorite Clays being included. The lack of RiD Steeljaw (G1 Steeljaw did appear with Lio Junior and RiD15 Aerobolt though) is forgiven.
Anyhow, the specific use of the Clays, the (S3) Witwickys, the Maltos and the Onishis (this is especially funny since Koji’s mom never met her universe’s Optimus) is somehow very random, but also kinda appropriate. Like I get Spike and Dot’s families, since it serves as bookends, but the Clays and Onishis still feel a bit random. Still, including both Robots in Disguise families is a nice touch in my book!
The short ends with a different bookend as mentioned.

What starts out as G1 Prime & Megs transitions to ES Prime & Megs shaking hands. The old with the current series. It works~! I admit I’m surprised they didn’t include TFONE somehow. I know it’s technically not out yet, but there’s enough material to have had Orion and D-16 have some kind of tussle. It would’ve been an interesting way to tie it into the above scene and this one:

When it comes to general rep, the stuff that gets the most focus is G1, Beast Wars, Animated, & Galaxy Force. Cyberverse doesn’t really get anything beyond the leader shot, but there is this awesome but very random shot of Croaton over looking Holi’s Rescue Patrol walking on a beach littered with the dead bodies of the generic Decepticons from “War Dawn”.

Sucks to be you guys.
It also occurs to me the Rescue Bots cartoons appear to be omitted along with BotBots, but that might partly be due to them not having Japanese releases? I’m not sure, but it’s funny how Q-Transformers is acknowledged of all things, but not Heatwave or Burgertron. Maaaaybe that’s for the best on the later…
Still the PV is a blast and is pry the most earnest passion project that GETS Transformers vs what we’ve been getting post Aligned cartoon wise.
I still hope this leads to a proper TF anime series made by Trigger, like what happened with Gridman. We need a return to good 2D animated TF shows and not more CGI slop like WFC or S2 ES. That Beast Wars and Machines are still superior despite being retro by today’s standards says something…
The catch however is the original video is region locked…

but some fans have ripped it and posted it on their YT:
youtube
So go check it out while you can! It’s pure Energon-y goodness!
