I have mixed feelings about Beast Machines, being that I absolutely loved Beast Wars I was eager to see more of the characters, even with the,,, character design being what it was. But I appreciate what the show tried to do and the topics it tackled. The voice acting was great as usual and I like Megatron (mostly because he looks somewhat recognizable)

Wrote this after watching a video about fandom's weird vitriol towards child characters and some time reflecting on my own experiences as a "bad" kid.

I feel like fandom is a little too harsh on kids and teens for making mistakes or responding to negative experiences in the "wrong" way. And even when they do grow out of it or shown to be good numerous times their flaws are still held against them or mocked. Even adult characters don't get this treatment (usually).

I'll go first!

Some of my favorite episodes are "Make Tracks", "Autobop", and "Blaster Blues" from G1. I love the chemistry Tracks and Raoul have and I just straight up love Blaster plus I enjoy an alternate look at how the Decepticons can cause chaos on Earth besides just blowing things up.

So a current passion project of mine is a complete overhaul and rewrite of Beast Machines. Like many Beast Wars fans, I was extremely disappointed by a lot of what Beast Machines had done, especially to the characters themselves. The basic idea of my project is to mostly bring the characters and overall plot back to something more in the spirit of the original Beast Wars while keeping a few of the ideas from Beast Machines that had potential to be good, but were just executed poorly.

For Rattrap, I sort of get what they were trying to go for with his storyline of "overcoming a flawed/weaker body," but honestly... The body he was given had all the potential to be just as effective in combat as any of the others. He wasn't lacking for weapons either -- he still had his explosives, which I would argue were one of the more powerful weapons the Maximals had among them. My reworking of him physically was minimal, except I really fell in love with this idea of giving him like a pseudo-vehicle mode using his existing tires to give him more mobility akin to a motorcycle. Pair this new speed and maneuverability with his explosives and a return to his Beast Wars-era quick-witted cleverness and I don't think you'll be seeing a discussion on him being a liability to the team anytime soon.
