1: first favorite character

okay. based on my url and everything you would think it would be riddle. and i did get attached to him pretty quickly while seeing his story develop throughout book 1. but actually i very much made idia one of my faves at first sight.

see, when i first started the game and had to pick a character's hand to take, i scrolled over to ignihyde first because hades is my favorite disney villain and i knew that was the dorm based on him. and then i saw idia's extremely cool design and his little description calling him gloomy and shy, and that was it for me. i literally picked him immediately and did not even look at a single other character.

2: current favorite character

tbh i am SO bad at ever picking just one single favorite of anything lol but i think riddle and idia will both always be at the top of my faves list ❤️💙

9: favorite duo

HMM this is actually such a hard one because again, my indecisiveness, and twst being so full of incredibly fun and interesting dynamics. i'll choose to go with a favorite platonic duo instead of a ship for this and say the shroud brothers because i got so much brainrot over them after i read book 6 for the first time.

floyd/riddle:

okay first i'll just say that the main reason i circled "sending them to superhell" was because i had already circled so many other boxes that adding that one got me a bingo. but also, they should go to superhell because they're ridiculous. floyd is ridiculous. he could just tell riddle he thinks he's cool and admires his strength but instead he affectionately picks on him and like. riles him up to get him to stop being sad. why is he like that (i love him).

no but actually they hit on so many tropes i love with their whole enemies/rivals to lovers, red and blue, fire and water, order and chaos, opposites attract deal. they have SO much potential and i have so much brainrot over them. i love how the whole reason their rivalry started was because floyd got blasted through the air by this tiny little guy and instantly fell in love felt intrigued by him, because there weren't many people who were stronger than him back home. and how most people are (rightfully) scared of floyd but riddle genuinely does not see him as a threat, he just thinks his teasing is kind of annoying akjdfsgsdg. and i think that if they could actually just like talk to each other like normal people they could get along and balance each other out really well. unfortunately, and i say this affectionately, they do not know how to be normal. and now i'm rambling so let's move on haha

jade/azul:

basically jade/azul isn't my favorite ship, but i'm a multishipper so i still really like it. i wish i had more to say about them hsfjgkfd but i love the octatrio and love jade and azul's dynamic, they're just a really fun and sweet friends to lovers ship!! i circled "relationship goals" because they just have such a deep bond and clearly have so much trust and respect for each other and i love that for them. also, this might be a localization-only thing but one time in the halloween event jade called azul "my dear azul" and i think that was pretty gay of him.

ace/riddle:

if you had asked me this a while back my answers would've been different because i used to only really like them platonically and couldn't see it in a romantic sense. but now thanks to you they've grown on me lol. again, still not my favorite ship, but i'm a multishipper and i think this is a fun one, and i love how much you love it! they've got a bit of the same order/chaos and opposites attract vibe as floyd and riddle, and ace is very important to riddle's development in book 1! also ngl the idea of riddle developing a crush on ace and being all flustered around him because of it is really cute to me. and it's so sweet how riddle praises ace's skills and puts his trust in him in the fairy gala remix event.

With the help of my friend @transriddlerosehearts (who provided the colors for me thank you!!!), I can finally show off Joker's full Fairy Gala look! Her gown is based on one from the Armor series by Chotronette, which I fell in love with the moment I saw it. Rose gold and champagne colors would work beautifully among the fairy celebrations!

I'm a little out of practice with watercolors but I had a lot of fun relearning techniques and trying new things!

Twistober day 22 - AU

No illustration today, but instead a story. An AU I've been working on with @transriddlerosehearts, in which Ace is a depressed and desperate loser with a dead-end job, who sees only one way to start making things better in his life:

Might As Well Summon Demons!

It had been another long, pointless day, just like the dozens and dozens that preceded it. Wake up, go to work, pretend to care, go back home. Ace was ready for something to change. He trudged up the creaking stairs to his sixth-floor apartment, his arms held protectively around a canvas tote bag. His untied shoelaces flopped around the sides of his dirty, worn high tops as he ascended the dimly-lit steps, navigating around the occasional piece of trash or abandoned toy that his neighbors would leave behind. The building thrummed with life; thin walls vibrating with the sound of the residents’ televisions, radios, arguments, and all the other noisy nuances of day to day life, as well as the more organic type of life that would occasionally scuttle inside the walls and beneath the sinks.

Ace sighed to himself as he fumbled for his key. This wasn’t how he pictured his life would be at this point. He was too young to be this damn tired of everything. Twenty-six years old, doing nothing even remotely close to what his fancy Night Raven College diploma would have supposedly granted him and instead, swimming in debt, working a dead-end job as a line cook, and just barely making rent on his tiny studio walk-up. He couldn’t believe he thought this was a step up from the crowded place he had shared with four roommates downtown; it was a hassle finding privacy, sure, but at least there was always something to do. And it wasn’t like he could go back, either; all four guys had either found new places or gone back to their hometowns when their lease was up, and even the roommate he was closest to, Deuce, had opted to move back in with his mother instead of splitting a place again.

This was no way to live. Ace needed a change. He carefully lay the canvas bag down onto his uneven kitchen table, and nodded. Tonight, he was going to make it happen. He was going to do something so outrageous, so unspeakable, but it would turn his life completely around.

But first, a shower. He smelled like a day’s worth of diner grease. He flicked on the light switch in his tiny bathroom and started to run the water, giving it time to warm up as he peeled out of his clothes, dropping things into the hamper to drag downstairs for laundry and folding the less funky stuff to reuse again later in the week. He glanced over at his reflection in the door of the medicine cabinet, and looked himself up and down. Legs toned from long days on his feet and climbing all those stairs every day, lean physique despite his “whatever I can grab for cheap” diet, cheeky boyish grin and bright eyes topped off with a stylishly unruly mop of ginger hair; Ace shot his reflection a wink, and shook his head. He was way too hot to be this poor and single. Great job, hot stuff.

Speaking of hot stuff, steam had started to billow from the shower stall. Finally, hot water to drown his sorrows! He stepped under the spray, wincing slightly as the water hit his skin. He washed quickly, since he never knew how long the hot water would last, and even managed to rinse the last of the conditioner from his hair before the water began to run cold. He wrapped himself in a worn red towel and rubbed the condensation from the mirror. It felt a little less lonely with the company of his reflection, even if it was just for however long it took to comb his hair and brush his teeth.

A few minutes later, Ace was dried off, dressed in his pajamas, and staring down the bag on the kitchen table. He was ready. He was SO ready. He was going to change his life tonight. He pulled a worn book from the bag, bristling with impromptu bookmarks. He opened to one of them, and ran his finger down the page. Chalk. He pulled a dollar store pack of sidewalk chalk from the bag. Candles. He placed a pack of white, vanilla-scented tea lights next to the chalk. Rare herbs… he had tried his best, there. A wilted bunch of herb garni and a couple of bay leaves he swiped from the work kitchen, some cinnamon sticks from the potpourri at his mother’s place, and some overpriced weed that was more stems than anything, just to cover all his bases. And he wasn’t sure about the last item - unholy water with a sacrifice from a virgin. Must be the intentions that count, Ace thought, and he pulled out his substitution: a can of expired pomegranate-flavored energy drink from the bodega across the street. He opened the can, took a sip, winced, and put it onto the table. Then, he picked up a paring knife and cut into his hand. Blood welled up around the blade, and he held it over the open can, counting the drops as they fell. Unholy water with a virgin sacrifice, check.

He took a few moments to clean and wrap up his hand, then turned to the next page. Ace had spent a long time deliberating over the diagram, practicing the smooth curve of the outer circle and the intricate motifs inside, but had never drawn the entire thing together until now. He pushed his couch against the side of his bed for extra floor space, grabbed a piece of pink chalk, and began to work. After half an hour, the completed summoning circle dominated his floor, in weirdly cheerful pastel colors.

He checked the time. Eleven-thirty, on the night of the new moon. If he paced himself right, he could have this accomplished by exactly midnight. He’d summon the demon, make his contract for riches and fame and talent and all that crap, unload his mortal soul or whatever, go to bed, and wake up the next morning ready to start an exciting new life.

He took a deep breath. Time to make some forbidden magic happen.

Ace stood at the southernmost part of the circle, emotions swirling through his mind. Fear, sadness, disgust at himself... and a glimmer of hope. Yeah, it sucked asking for supernatural help, but he was at the end of his rope, and even with everything else going on, he'd rather try to swing than hang. He placed his "herbs" into a dish, and put them into the center of the ring. He lit five candles, and placed them at the cardinal points on the circle's edge, starting at north and working widdershins, and the last one nestled amid the herbs in the center dish. He held the dog-eared text in his right hand, and his bloodied energy drink in the left. Now, how did the incantation go?

Two steps towards the western point. "Hear me, denizens of the Pit. A mortal stands before you with a need." Okay, nothing tricky yet. A step backward, then pour a bit of the unholy water into the flame. He poured hesitantly, expecting the candle to go out, but instead, it doubled in size, burning with an amber flame. Just like it was supposed to! Nice. He risked a grin, then crossed to the eastern point.

"Answer my summons, and be bound to me as I shall be to you; your service in exchange for my sacrifice." Another pour, another bright amber light. Midnight was approaching quickly. He had to time it right. To the north.

"With the light of the candles, I light your way. With the taste of the herbs, I tempt you." The energy drink hissed and spat as it hit the flame, but it still burned brighter beneath his hand.

He approached the southern candle. "Let this water, cursed in nature, bring you to me." Cursed was right, it tasted like shit, he thought as he brought the sickly flame to larger, brighter life. Just had to reach in to douse the center... "And the virgin's sacrifice, may it show my intent. For what I desire is— oh, fuck.” Ace swore as he realized he missed the candle and had poured a portion of the liquid on the floor. He quickly corrected his aim, and managed to pour the last of the liquid over the center candle, creating a greater, darker flame than the ones on the outer ring, which was starting to smell vaguely of sulfur. He leaned away. "Oh. What I desire... um. Riches and fame and... oh." All five flames grew higher, and he felt a hot wind blowing through his apartment. There was a figure just becoming visible inside the circle; cold steel-blue eyes flashing boldly ahead of the rest of their features. Ace's heart thumped against his chest, fearful of the demon that would reply to his summons. He watched as the eldritch creature formed in front of him. Intense eyes that almost seemed to glow. Sharp horns. Wide red wings, curled inward to fit within the confines of the circle....

... and a perfect, angelic face looked back at him from beneath a fringe of silken hair the color of a Valentine's rose. Full lips parted, and a melodic voice asked him a question that his short-circuiting brain couldn't even register. This... was it even a demon? This creature was beautiful. Ace dropped to his knees, the tattered book and drink can hitting the floor on either side of him. His mouth opened, dry and creaking. "Are you going to grant my wishes?"

Well.

Spent the morning writing something for a riddle/ace au that i'm building with a friend and honestly? I like it so much I might actually make it into a fic. Is there a market out there for mid-20s loser Ace who's so fed up with his dead end life that he decides to try and summon a wish-granting demon, makes a mistake, and ends up with a bookish misfit succubus instead? Or is it just me and @transriddlerosehearts lol
