The first day on set we had these, like, custom shirts made for each cast member, which this little individual over here —and he pointed at you accusatory—was in charge of making and instead of putting mine as “Darth Vader”, Y/n put “Barbecue Anakin”.

Yennefer’s dead.

it’s the peak of summer, all three of them are cold-weather birds with thick feathers, and all are suffering from the heat.

the heat stress means the ILT virus they’re carrying gets to express itself more - they all have foamy eyes and are sneezing and gurgling a bit, and she’s been hit by it the hardest, like she always has been. back when she first got infected, she was the only one to hack blood and require hospitalization.

she’s had two near-death experiences previously where I was sure she’d die, and one was last year at this exact time, when the heat stress from summer was at it’s worst. it ended up being coccidia (my understanding is that her immune system was trashed from the ILT flare-up, so she was vulnerable enough to pick up a parasite that the others were too strong to be affected by). it took a veterinary crop flush, a week indoors, several medications, and bi-hourly crop messages to pull her through that one.

I think you’ve probably seen a couple recent posts about Yennefer’s health - one of her ILT symptoms has ben conjunctivitis in her right eye, leading to ulcers, and the summer heart had exacerbated it to the point where I was arranging for the eye to be surgically removed. the last 3 days she’s been acting subdued, and I assumed it was from the pain of her freshly inflamed eye. I’d arranged for my mom to drive down to Toronto today with a fresh batch of meds from the speciality chicken vet, which would’ve calmed down her eye inflammation prior to surgery.

I’m now not sure if the ‘acting subdued’ was caused by yet another parasitic/bacterial infection she’s picked up from the yard, or just from a final burst of heat-trigged ILT. from forums, I know ILT can cause blood clots and rapid death in birds.

I both wasn’t expecting this, and have been expecting this since the blood-spitting episode. she wasn’t strong enough the survive the virus on her own initially (that’s why she spent two night in a oxygen-enriched chamber at the vets), and she hasn’t been strong enough to survive the subsequent summer ILT flare ups without extensive assistance. well, she didn’t survive this one at all.

aaand I’m just rambling on this post because when I stop typing I’ll have to go outside and bury the body. I haven’t really processed this yet, and will probably take a day off from the internet. just earlier this week she was so incredibly full of life and personality, it really is hard to comprehend.
