Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is based on a RP where Trip ended up being amnesic (Uxie shenanigans) and Alain helped him a bunch with recovering some of his memories. This is just one of the latest scenes we've added and I really wanted to commission it haha!
I did the background for the third image :))
(and yes this ship is kind of odd. My friend @nebelpanda and I decided to take our two blorbos and just... idk, rp as them and see if we could ship them for fun. We ended up liking it a bit too much not gonna lie which happens WAY TOO OFTEN-)

Nemona would be such a good influence on Kieran it isn't even funny.
Because suddenly, here's this person who is well known across the Paldea region for her battle prowess, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if she had been offered a scholarship to attend Blueberry. She's enthusiastic, curious, and absolutely battle-crazy. She's strong, so strong in fact that hardly anyone wants to battle her anymore. And the one person who does, it the protagonist.
She's everything Kieran wanted be and more.
But she doesn't pursue victory, like he once did. When she loses to the MC, she's not upset with her own strength. No, she's ecstatic because she had an amazing battle, because she's having fun. She didn't become as strong as she is for strength, she did it for fun.
And Kieran really needs somebody like that after the Indigo Disk, I think.

Hi everyone! I made a Pokemon Best Wishes animatic about Trip (in around 10 days I think? The song has basically entered my DNA at this point). It's INSANELY self indulgent I'm not going to lie haha! Just me giving my underrated boy some love! I hope I'll get more ideas for animatics with him or other characters from Best Wishes (though maybe not NOW cause I kinda shirked my other works in favor of finishing this...)
He brings me soooo much happiness, y'all have no idea.

Rival Battle for Club Champion
Sorry about the long break for this. I got into a situation where I couldn't really write well.
(Reading List Here)
“As our heros make their way to Nacrene City, they take a breif stop in Luxuria Town.”
Ash ran past Luxuria’s the stores and buildings, not even giving them a pacing glance. Pikachu made a sound of excitement from his shoulder. He skid to halt, his smile growing wide.
“Found it!” Ash held his arms up. They were standing infront of a wide building that displayed imagery of a Pokémon battlefield above their doors. “The Luxuria Town Battle Club!”
Ash was through the glass doors with a blink. He crouched down at the trainer selection, looking for a match.
“Man, I wonder what kinda of trainers I can battle to get ready for the Gym.”
The doors opened again. Cilan and Iris took their fair shair of breaths, their backpacks dragging at their feet.
“We finally caught up,” Cilan wiped off his forehead with the back of his hand.
“You didn’t need to rush off like that,” Iris muttered as they walked over to join him, “The Battle Club isn’t going anywhere you know.”
Cilan stood over Ash’s shoulder while Iris crossed her arms, leaning against the bulk of the machine computer.
The trainer profile passed past the screen. A new one loaded into frame.
“Woah!”
Ash jerked up, his head hitting Cilan in the chest and Iris making jump.
She clutched her heart, “Why did you do-”
“Look, it’s Trip!”
Cilan and Iris glanced past Ash. On screen was a blonde boy, along with a brief overview of his battles here.
Iris peered at them, “What’s a Trip?”
Ash stayed fixated on the screen, “He’s a trainer I met when I first got here. He was the first person I fought in Unova.”
Cilan placed his hands on his hips, “Hm, so Trip made it to Luxuria Town.”
Ash raised an eyebrow, “You know Trip?”
He nodded, “He challenged the Striaton Gym like you did. His Snivy was able to handle Cress’s Panpour quite handedly.”
Ash returned to the screen, “Man, I’d love to have a rematch with Trip.”
“So you want a battle, eh?”
The three turned around. A man who looked like a spitting image of Don George, albeit with blue highlighted clothing as opposed to red, with the rest of their clothing being a gray. “Well, leave that to us. We here at the Battle Club are here to serve your training needs. What’s your name, son?”
Ash looked him up and down, “Uh, Ash. Didn’t we meet you in Accumula Town?”
Don George raised an eyebrow at them. Then chuckled slightly, “Oh. You must have visited my cousin’s club.”
“Cousin’s?” Iris asked.
He nodded, “Yep. Look over there.”
They followed his pointer finger to the whole. Inside a gold colored frame was a photo of several men who looked identical to him, ignoring the color of their uniform’s lining.
He pointed at the Don George with a red uniform, “That’s who you met before.”
He dragged it down the himself, where he was down on one knee, “And that’d be me.”
“Well, we can certainly see the family resemblance,” Cilan tried a chuckle.
Don George didn’t address it. Instead walking over to the trainer database.
“Trip entered his cross-transceiver contact. So we should be able to set up a battle.”
“A cross-transceiver?” Ash asked.
Don George paused his typing, “A long distance communication device that you can wear on your wrist.”
He nodded, “Man, that sounds cool.”
“I suppose so,” he returned to the database while Ash turned to Iris and Cilan.
“Do you have one of those?” Ash tilted his head at Cilan.
“Why would you ask me?”
“Well, I know that I don’t and I feel like Iris wouldn’t.”
“And why is that?” Iris raised an eyebrow.
“You didn’t even want Cilan’s cooking at first. It doesn’t seem like you’d have something that techy.”
Iris crossed her arms, but seemed to accept the answer.
Cilan raised a finger, “You also don’t cover your wrists, and there’s not much reason why you would hide it.”
She rolled eyes, “Okay, okay. I get the picture.”
“Regardless,” he shifted his stance slightly, “I doubt we’ll need one.”
“Oh, yeah. I’m sure being able to communicate with people when we’re not by a Pokémon Center won’t ever be useful,” Iris said.
Cilan gave her an unamussed expression, to which she responded cheekly.
“She had a point, Cilan.”
He crossed his arms, “Well, if either of you two can figure out where to get one, I’ll keep it with us.”
Iris and Ash looked at each other blankly. Cilan smirked to himself, placing his hands on his hip.
Don George turned back to them, “Trip should get the call soon.”
Ash walked up to the database, smiling.
“You know, Trip put on quite a show. He beat two trainers in a row before he left.”
Ash shared a eagerly smile with Pikachu, “Sounds like Trip’s really improved. This’ll be great.”
Trip peered down his camera. He was standing on the sidewalk, trying to properly catch the view of the cityscape.
He nearly dropped his camera at the sound of his wrist buzzing. He raised an eyebrow, raising the grey and red device to his face.
“The Battle Club?” Trip raised an eyebrow, pressing answer.
The screen flickered on, showing the pixelated image of Don George.
“Heya Trip, I’ve got a young man who wants to have a battle with you.”
Trip’s expression remained skeptical as the older man stepped back, letting who Trip figured was the mentioned trainer take the screen.
“Hey, Trip. Long time, no see.”
“Ash? You’re in Luxuria Town?” Trip’s face seemed shocked, though his tone was still flat.
“Yep, I was looking for a chance to train and I saw your trainer profile,” Ash said, “So what do you say? Want a rematch?"
Trip already started walking down the street, not even looking at his cross transceiver, “No.”
“What?” Ash nearly shouted, slamming his hands on the database counter.
He shrugged slightly, “Your ‘experienced’ Pikachu could barley bet my Snivy. I’ve trained, and Snivy’s gotten stronger. Not to mention the rest of my team. What would be the point?”
Ash resisted a growl, “Pikachu wasn’t feeling well then!”
Trip humphed.
He shook his head, “Whatever! I’ve been training too, and I have a lot of new Pokémon.”
“How impressive,” he rolled his eyes.
Ash crossed his arms.
“Listen, I’m not interested in-”
“Sounds like someone’s scared~”
Trip snapped his cross-transceiver back up. A girl was smirking at the screen, hanging off at Ash’s side.
He raised an eyebrow, “And you are? And what are you talking about.”
She placed a hand on her chest, “Iris, and it sounds to me like you’re scared of losing two times in a row against Ash.”
“I am not-”
“Then prove it,” she smiled sweetly, sickeningly so, “You talk big, but little kids like you can never back it up.”
Trip’s eyes snapped forward. He ended the call.
Ash and Iris blinked as the screen shut off.
He grumbled, “I guess that’s a no.”
“Pika pikachu,” he expressed a similar disappointment.
Iris chuckled awkwardly, hesitant to meet Ash’s eyes, “Hehe, sorry, Ash.”
Before Ash could respond, the doors slid open again. Their eyes widened at who strutted in: Trip.
“Trip? How’d you get here so fast?” Cilan asked.
Trip’s eyebrows raised at the gym leader. He turned to face him as he looked him up and down.
“One of the Striaton Gym Leaders?” His eyes narrowed, “What are you doing here?”
Cilan placed a hand on his chest, “I’ve decided to travel with Ash across Unova.”
Trip hummed. Then walked away towards the others. Cilan’s smile faded.
Trip have Iris a passing look, before matching Ash’s gaze.
“So, you want a battle?” he raised an eyebrow.
Ash and Pikachu’s confused expressions turned confident, “You know it.”
Trip shrugged, “Fine, I can’t wait to see you rely on your Pikachu.”
Ash wasn’t remotely fazed by the other’s smirk, “Yeah, right. We could beat you with just my new Pokémon.”
Trip rolled his eyes, “Oh please-”
Don George threw his hands on Ash’s and Trip’s shoulders, making the latter stumble, “That sounds like a mighty fine battle. So how many Pokémon will you both my using?”
Ash looked up at him, “A three on three.”
“Pika?”
“Sorry, bud, but we’re making a point here.”
Pikachu pouted, crossing his arms.
Trip straightened himself out, attempting to ignore his stagger. He smirked at Ash, “Only three?”
Ash remained unfazed, “Yeah, I want to catch Pokémon I could feel a real connection with, you know?”
Trip only slumped at the other’s happy disposition.
Don George hummed, “Okay then, we’ll get that set up right away.”
Iris glanced at Cilan, who didn’t let his gaze off of the two trainers.
“Do you think this is going to turn out well?”
Cilan broke away from them, looking at her, “It’s an immovable object versus a relentless force, Ash’s trust in his Pokémon and Trip’s confidence.”
“Is that good?”
“That would depend on how you define good.”
Ash’s and Trip’s eyes followed Don George for a moment as he stepped away from them.
Ash held up a hand to the other boy, “Hey, thanks for this battle.”
Trip rolled his eyes, “Listen, I already know how this battle will end. This could be a complete waste of my time.”
Ash waved him off, “Ah, come on. No matter how bad a loss, it’s still a worthwhile experience.”
Trip ticked, and walked off to tinker with his camera.
A dark colored Pokémon skittered through the forest. Blinks of light broke through the canopy. The small Pokémon was fox-like, with brief patches of red that stood out against their black fur.
The leaves crunched under their feet. They walked with purpose. They were searching.
They sniffed at the ground. Their head jumped up.
They were onto him.
The Pokémon hopped along the grass.
The tree’s reach parted for a brief moment. Sprawled out on the grass ground, there was a human.
There was N.
A small number of Deerling and Patrat were around him, unbothered that a human amongst them. N was asleep, breathing softly.
The fox-like Pokémon walked past the forest Pokémon. They shoved their nose into N’s neck.
N gasped awake. His eyes jumped back and forth, before settling on the Pokémon.
He sighed as he brief ran a hand past his face and over the bags under his eyes, “Oh, Zorua. It’s been too long.”
Zorua yipped, wagging their tail. They continued talking as he climbed into N’s arms.
N matched their smile. He chuckled, “Yes, yes, I know it was not been a great deal of time, but it was still too long.”
“This will be a three-on-three standard battle. Both trainers will be able to recall Pokémon at their own choice.”
Ash and Trip stood at opposite sides of the field. Each had a hand in their pocket. Don George stood the marked spot in the middle of field. Cilan and Iris stood in the rafters. Above and behind them was an electronic bulletin board that displayed a head-shot of Trip on the left and Ash on the right. Each had six Pokéball icons surrounding them. Three were blacked out.
Don George threw a hand in the air. Ash and Trip’s eyes jumped to it, before returning to each other's again. Ash had a small smile creeping on his face. Trip’s expression was calculated. A million thoughts were running through his head while Ash only thought of his own excitement.
“And…” Don George threw his hand down, “Let the battle begin!”
Each trainer quickly had their Pokéballs in their hand.
“Pidove, I choose you!”
“Now, Tranquill!”
The two Pokémon appeared in a flash of blue. Pidove cheered and flapped with excitement, ready to help her trainer.
Tranquil has another bird Pokémon. It was primarily a mix of white, light grey, with black stripes across its wings and tail feathers.
A head-shot of each appeared on their trainer’s first respective Pokéball icon.
“Wow, what’s a Tranquill?” Ash muttered as he retrieved his Pokédex.
“Tranquill: The Wild Pigeon Pokémon. A Normal and Flying type and the evolved form of Pidove. Many people believe that, deep in the forest where Tranquill live, there is a peaceful place where there is no war.”
“Wow, so that’s what Pidove could evolve into to,” Ash cracked a grin.
Instead of her trainer’s amazement at her opponent, Pidove squeaked in fear. This didn’t miss Ash.
“Hey! Don’t worry, Pidove. We’ve got this,” he called to her. Hesitantly, she turned back to Tranquill. The other Pokémon had a focused expression, with slight glare. Or least it looked like one to Pidove.
Iris slumped, “Wow, Ash is at a major disadvantage.”
Cilan hummed, catching her attention, “Technically, but Ash doesn’t seem deterred.”
“Is he ever?”
Trip scoffed, “Are you done yet?”
Ash nodded, “Yep! Pidove, use Quick Attack!”
“Dove!” she dashed across the field. She went directly towards Tranquill.
“Use Air Cutter!”
“Tranquill quill!”
The Pokémon reeled back, shoving their wings forward to send a furry of air razors towards the small Pokémon. The first slammed into Pidove’s side.
“Pidove, move!”
She wanted to follow Ash’s words, but she was quickly overwhelmed by the onslaught of attacks. Pidove cried out, the final strike sent her crashing back to the ground.
Ash gasped, “Are you alright?”
The dust around Pidove cleared. She cooed in pain, forcing her head up.
“Can you keep going?”
Trip humphed.
“Pi… Pidove!” she groaned slightly as she flapped her wings. She rolled onto her feet.
“Good job, Pidove! Now, get in close and use Gust!”
She took to the air, flying at her opponent.
“Tranquill, Air Cutter again,” Trip ordered, throwing an arm out.
“Use Quick Attack and keep on dodging!”
“Tran!” “Dove!”
Pidove weaved to the side of Tranquill’s first attack. She twisted back and forth and swooped down to dodge each attack. She was seconds away from striking the larger Pokémon.
“Double Team!”
“Quill!” Tranquill shoved itself backward with a jump of their wings. They dispersed into a group of five copies of itself.
Pidove hit air. Her eyes tried to follow the Tranquill circling her, but she was quickly overwhelmed.
“Use Gust to find the real one!”
Pidove shook her head, she raised her wings.
“Tranquill, get out of here!”
“Tranquill,” they nodded in sync, flying around Pidove to the other side of the area.
“Now! Work Up,” Trip grinned.
“Tran!” the Tranquill was engulfed in a slight red light, shaking their body.
“Come on, Pidove! Quick Attack!”
“Dove!” she went after her opponent, deciding which to hit by which was closest.
“Use Aerial Ace!” Trip ordered.
Pidove managed to strike of the Tranquill. Unfortunately, it was only a duplicate. The others faded back to the Tranquill above Pidove, on her left. Tranquill struck Pidove, rushing past her as the smaller bird tried to recover.
“Again!”
“Move!”
Tranquill whipped around before Pidove could do anything. They struck her in the chest.
Pidove crashed to the ground, just before Ash’s feet.
“Pidove!” he cried out, kneeling down beside her.
Tranquill gave them a passing look, before returning to Trip’s front.
Don George raised his eyebrow.
Iris and Cilan winced.
Pidove wasn’t getting up.
Don George raised his hand, “Pidove is unable to battle! The first fight goes to Trip!”
Pidove’s icon darkened.
Trip moved his hands onto his hip. His stance shifted onto his left hand, a grin plastered on his face, “Don’t worry to much Ash! There’s always time to go back to the basics.”
Ash didn’t react, instead kneeling towards is fainted Pokémon. Without taking his eyes off her, he took out her Pokéball. He recalled her muttering, “Take a good rest, Pidove. You did great.”
Cilan hummed as he and Iris watched Ash return to his standing, “That’s strong lead for Trip. Tranquill is still boosted by Work Up. Without Pikachu, Ash won’t have any super effective moves.”
“Maybe Snivy’s Attract could work?” Iris muttered.
“Maybe, but there’s the risk that Attract won’t do anything at all.”
Don George looked over at Ash, “The challenger may select their next Pokémon.”
Ash smiled as he pulled out his Pokéball. He tossed it onto the field, his Pokémon appearing in a flash, “Oshawott, let’s get going!”
“Osha!” Oshawott hit his Scalchop, beaming at his opponents.
Trip narrowed his eyes, “Is that… the Oshawott from the lab.”
He nodded, “You got it. He followed me after I left.”
Trip smirked, “Makes sense you’d take the reject.”
“Osha!” Oshawott cried, taking a hand to over his heart.
Ash glared, “Oh, what do you know? Let’s show em’ what you can do, Oshawott! Use Water Gun!”
“Oshawott!” the jet stream went for Tranquill, flying across the battlefield.
“Attack with Air Cuttter!”
“Tranquill!” they pushed themselves into the air slightly. The wind and water collided. The water exploded into droplets that glisened the light. The held themselves in the air for a moment, before dropping to the field.
“Now, Aerial Ace!”
“Quill!” Tranquill dived. They glided down the field, eyes sharp at their oppeant.
“Osha?” he shrieked, eyes wide at Ash.
He gave his Pokémon a nod, “Have your Scalchop out, Oshawott.”
He gupled, hesitantly facing down Tranquill.
“Ha! That won’t block all the damage!”
Ash only cracked a grin at Trip’s vigor.
“Hey, Trip. You know how Aerial Ace never misses?”
Trip scoffed, “Please, that’s basic.”
Without leaving anyone a moment to breath, Ash shouted, “Use Water Gun on the ground!”
“Osha!” he blasted the ground at his feet. The dirt broke, the force carrying into the air. Tranquill hit the water, flying through it. They staggered. Tranquill tried to stabalize themselves, turning over to finish their attack.
Trip’s eyes widened, gapping at the scene.
Ash raised a fist, “Now, Razor Shell!”
Oshawott followed through with his remaining momentum, swinging over to strike Tranquill in the back.
“Tran!” they blurted out as they buckled under the force. Their wings carried them into the air for a second but their lack of control made them crash into the dirt. Dust clouded around them as Oshawott landed on the ground.
Ash smiled as Trip’s face deepened into a neutral expression.
Oshawott heaved, trying to regain his breath.
Tranquill was revealed, laying stiff on the ground. They were knocked out.
“Tranquill is unable to battle!” Don George threw a hand into the air.
“Way to go!” Ash cheered. Oshawott’s eyes watered, waving happily at his trainer.
Wordlessly, Trip recalled Tranquill. He stared at the device, before shrinking it down and placing it in his pocket.
Cilan laughed wholeheartedly, “Now that’s the kind of move I expected from Ash. Using the nature of his opponent’s move to his advantage shows the zest of Ash’s battle style! It naturally pairs with his Pokémon’s readiness to follow his orders.”
“Axew!” Iris’s partner nodded in agreement. The odds he fully understood what Cilan just said were not in his favor.
Trip looked forward. Ash was holding Oshawott by his stubby hands, clearly praising him for all he’s worth.
Don George shifted to him, “You may choose your second Pokémon.”
Trip nodded as Ash stood up straight. Ash tipped his hat at his Pokémon.
Oshawott nodded with a slight grin, running back to the battlefield. He smacked his scalchop, grinning down Trip.
The trainer didn’t humor him., taking out his Pokéball.
“I choose you, Servine!”
It materialized onto the field. It was a royal green Pokémon, it was slender and stood tall. Its eyes and nose were sharp and its face was white. They raised their nose at Oshawott, “Ser Servine.”
Oshawott gulped.
“That looks familiar…” Ash breathed slightly at the new Pokémon as he went for his pocket.
“Servine: The Grass Snake Pokémon. A Grass type and the evolved form of Snivy. They avoid attacks by sinking into the shadows of thick foliage. They retaliate with masterful whipping techniques.”
Iris bit her lip, “Oshawott’s going to in for a rough time.”
Ash brightened, “So that’s what Snivy evolves into!”
“Yeah, obviously. Are you done?” Trip eyed him.
“Okay, okay, you take the first move,” Ash nodded.
Oshawott’s eyes bulged out. He turned around, shouting protests at his trainer.
“You’ll be fine! We’ve got this,” Ash threw up a fist.
Oshawott didn’t seem convinced, but turned back around.
“Servine, use Vine Whip!” Trip ordered.
“Vine!” Servine raised a pair of vines from its back. It whipped them towards the Oshawott, the air snapped with the movement.
“Block it!”
“Oshawott!” he countered the the whip with his shell. The vine second vine swept across the ground, aiming for his side. Oshawott gasped, he moved his scalchop, but failed to beat the Vine Whip. It strunk him. He cried out at the stinging pain. He hit the ground, knocking up dirt at the impact.
Ash bit his lip as his Pokémon returned to view. Oshawott struggled with a groan.
“Come on, Oshawott…”
“Osha…” he rolled onto his stomach to life himself up with his hands. He jumped around to face Servine.
“Servine, Growth!”
“Ser Servine,” he nodded. Servine closed his eyes as the leaves trailing down his back glowed in the sunlight. They grew in the sunlight, drawing in the attention of each trainer.
“Growth raises the power of their attacks,” Cilan muttered, with a worried expression.
“Oshawott, Tackle!”
“Osha!”
Servine’s eyes snapped open. Its leaves dulled to their original lighting.
“Use Cut!” Trip snapped.
“Ser!” Servine whipped its upper body back, before lauching its whole body at Oshawott. It held out a leafy hand, which glowed white with the attack.
The two Pokémon meet eyes, mere footsteps away from each other.
“Osha!” Oshawott jumped up, slamming his whole body into Servine’s body.
“Servine!” Trip yelped as his Pokémon crashed to the ground.
“Nice hit, Oshawott. Now use Razor Shell!” Ash cheered.
Oshawott nodded. He grabbed his scalchop, letting it gain its blue aura.
“Hurry, use Leaf Tornado!”
“Ser…” Servine eyed his opponent, not moving.
Oshawott leaped into the air, raising his scalchop over his head.
He started to descend at the unmoving opponent.
Until he wasn’t unmoving. Servine uncoiled himself, summing a mass of leaves with him.
“Osha-!” he tried to cry out, but was hurtfully cut off by the attack.
Servine stood with a proud smile as Oshawott was hurdled towards his trainer’s feet.
“Oshawott!” Ash gasped, dropping to his Pokémon’s side.
Don George watched them carefully.
“Wott…” Oshawott droaned out. The Pokémon had swirls in his eyes.
He was out for the count.
“Oshawott is unable to battle!” the Battle Club owner announced.
“Great job, you held out really well,” Ash said as he recalled him to his Pokémon.
Iris leaned on the railing, eyes locked on the battlefield.
Don George pointed a hand at Ash, “You may choose your third and final Pokémon.”
Cilan hummed, “Trip took the lead early on and Ash is paying for it.”
“And now he only has one Pokémon,” Iris muttered.
“Ax Axew.”
He crossed his arms, “Perhaps ‘only’ is not the most apt description.”
Ash took out a Pokéball, pressing its button to grow into its larger size.
“Pika pika,” Pikachu muttered into his partner’s ear.
“Don’t worry, bud. We’ve got this,” Ash said. He smiled at his Pokéball, before tossing it onto the battlefield ground, “Snivy, I choose you!”
The small, grass green Pokémon appeared before them. She took less than a second to asset her situation. She glared at her evolved form, “Snivy…”
Trip humphed, “Just a Snivy?”
Snivy deepened her glare.
“I wouldn’t get over confident if I were you.”
“Yeah, because I’m smarter than that.”
Iris jumped, “Who does that punk think he-!”
Cilan, ignoring his shock, grabbed Iris by her shoulder, stopping her from failing over the railing.
Ash resided a glare, “Snivy, use Vine Whip!”
“Sni!”
“Servine, counter with Vine Whip!”
“Ser!”
Servine and Snivy rushed towards the center of the battlefield, their vines around extended. Snivy twisted her body to the left, her vine carrying with the force. Servine countered with his own whip. They cracked agaist each other on repeat. Their audeince could hear the air whipping with each of their strikes.
Servine whipped a vine over Snivy’s head.
“Grab it!”
“Sni!” she caught the whip with two of her own vines. She tugged it back to her, making Servine lose his balance.
“Servine quick, hit her with Leaf Tornado!”
“Ser!” he ducked to the ground, twisting around himself to start Leaf Tornado.
“Get out of there, Snivy!”
“Sni!” she nodded to herself. Before she even finished, she ran towards the opposite side of the field. Servine’s Leaf Tornado whurled after her.
Her eyes grew wide. She jumped to the side, but the attack still managed to scarp against her.
Snivy hit the ground. Ash bawled his hand into a fist. The Pokémon huffed, pushing herself up by her hands. She stood, glaring down at their opponetes.
“Just give up,” Trip eyed Ash, “Your Snivy may not be pathetic but its not going to outlast Servine.”
The evolved Pokémon raised his head.
Ash broke into a grin, "You just think that because you don't know who you're fighting! Snivy, use Attract!”
“Huh?” “Ser?”
Snivy smirked as she winked. Heart bounced off her eye and circled around Servine. The Pokémon could only look at them worriedly until they connected.
“Ser…vine…” he mumbled in a drunken haze.
“That’s-!” Trip gritted his teeth, “That’s not fair!”
“Yeah, sure it isn’t,” Iris rolled her eyes, her chin in her hand. Cilan covered his giggle.
Ash didn’t respond, “Now Snivy use Vine Whip again and again!”
“Sni!”
She struk Servine without a hint of relenting. She smacked him up into the air only to hit him back down. His dopey smile never broke his face.
“Servine!” Trip gasped, voice high.
“Now, let’s finish this with Leaf Tornado!”
“Snivy!” she danced around herself in a twist, challenging her fury of leaves. She released that towards Servine. He couldn’t even think to dodge the attack.
Trip’s eyes went wide as his starter was knocked into kingdom come over to his feet.
Don George threw up a hand, “Servine is unable to battle!”
Trip gapped at him. He glared as he dug out Servine’s Pokémon from his pocket.
“Servine, return,” he attempted to keep his tone flat.
“Nice work, Snivy! That was amazing,” Ash said.
“Pika pikachu!” Pikachu seemed to agree.
Snivy raised her nose at the words.
“Trip, you may choose your third and final Pokémon.”
He nodded, he delicately pulled out a Pokéball.
“Deerling!”
N followed the shouting. Zoura trailed behind him. The Dark type dragged its feet along the ground, their lip curled down and their eyes were narrow.
N stopped at the short hill. Just a hop down was a Deerling, its back leg stuck in a mess of vines. A group of the same Pokémon garthed around them, looking at the plant frantically.
“May I?”
The Pokémon jumped at the sound, but calmed apon seeing his face.
“Deer deerling!” the stuck Pokémon shouted at him.
N smiled. He skipped over the drop off.
Zoura muttered to themselves, but followed.
N showed his hands to the group. They shared a glance with each other, briefly, before stepping back.
He grabbed onto the vines, his hands quick and deliberate.
The Deerling winced. Not from pain, but rather the fear of it.
N shimeyed the vine stalks down their leg. He smiled at them, “Better?”
Deerling shook their now free leg. They beamed at it, before meeting N, “Deerling!”
“I’m glad to hear.”
The Deerling stood up, promptly talking to their family.
N hummed. The warm sunlight meet his face through the canopy. It was a fine a place as any to rest. He sat down, crossing his legs. The Deerling grazed around him, unbothered by his stay.
“Zoura,” the Pokémon mumbled, before climbing onto the human’s lap.
“I wish I knew what troubled you,” N mumbled. He slid his fingers down Zoura’s red coat. It was as soft as ever, but the Pokémon’s body was stiff.
Trip’s eyes were locked with the Pokéball. Ash and Don George waited silently, while Iris and Cilan shared a look.
Trip looked up, “Alright, I choose you, Vanillite!”
“Vanillite!” the Pokémon spoke, appearing with a blue light. It had a round face made of fresh snow on top of a very short, blue-ish icicle with two tiny spikes on its sides and a flat bottom. The markings down its body made it resemble ice cream in a cone.
“Ah!” Iris jumped, behind Cilan.
“Huh, Iris, what’s wrong?”
Iris forced a painful laugh, “I, huh- nothing.”
She didn’t move from behind him.
“Wow, a… Vanillite?” Ash thought outloud. A took his Pokédex from his pocket.
“Vanillite: The Fresh Snow Pokémon. An Ice type. This Pokémon formed from icicles bathed in energy from the morning sun. It decorates itself to appeal to humans.”
“Vanillite, use Icy Wind!”
“Van-illite,” they spun around in a quick motion, gathering energy. It shot the frosted air at Snivy.
“Quick, get out of there!”
“Sni!” Snivy leaped to her left, narrowly avoiding the attack.
“Good, now use Attract!”
Trip held up a finger, to Ash’s confusion, “No, you don’t. Vanillite, use Taunt!”
Vanillite laughed down at Snivy, surprising her. Her surprise quickly turned to anger. She scowled at the floating ice cream cone, growling lowly.
“Huh? Snivy, what happened?”
Trip scoffed, “Taunt fustrates the target out of using status moves. It’s basic.”
“So we can only attack then,” Ash spoke more-so to Snivy than Trip.
“Snivy!” she nodded at him, before turning back to Vanillite.
“Then use Vine Whip!”
“Sni!”
“Use Icy Wind!”
Vanillite shot a cloud of ice towards Snivy. It hit her vines first, making Snivy let out a yelp. Her vines still stuck, but without her full force. She recoiled her vines, which were frosted from the hit.
“We’ve got them! Use Icicle Spear!” Trip ordered.
“Vanillite!” they recovered from the hit, stabalizing themselves to generate an icicle just infront of them. They let it build before launching it at Snivy. Another two followed it in a blink.
“Snivy, use Leaf Tornado and get away!”
“Sni!” Angered even more, she summoned a mass of leaves and directed them towards the icicle attack. The collosion shattered into a display of powder, leaves, and ice shards.
Trip and his Pokémon were taken back by the imagery.
The brief moment of awe ended once both realized the Grass Snake Pokémon had disappeared. Their eyes jumped around the room.
“Use Leaf Blade!”
Vanillite’s eyes could only grow wide as Snivy leaped out from under the cloud of the collided attacks. Her tail was in the air, growing a vibrate green.
It swung down. Vanillite was sent hurdling to the ground. Dust flew up at the impact.
“Now, grab them with Vine Whip!”
“Sni!” Snivy landed in an instant. Her vines extened before she hit the group. They wrapped around Vanillite’s base.
“Illite?” he managed to squeak out, before Snivy turned on her heal. She spun him around like a child twirling a doll. Vanillite grew nauseous, unable to see anything but a rushing blurr.
“Now let em’ go!”
Snivy’s vines unraveled and returned to her. Vanillite crashed into the ground, the momentum giving him an even rougher landing.
“Vanillite!” Trip gasped.
“Sni…” Snivy’s eyes cleached shut as she brought up a hand to her head.
“Huh, are you okay?” Ash asked.
She shook her head. She opened her eyes and gave her trainer a calm smile, “Sni.”
Ash gained a dash of excitment, “Taunt must have worn off!”
She nodded at him, before turning back to their opponent, who was still on the ground.
“Come on, Vanillite. Get up,” Trip told them, but there was a waver in his voice.
“Vanill…” the Pokémon struggled, but floating back into the air.
“Snivy, use Vine Whip!”
“Vanillite, use Astonish!”
Before Snivy’s vine could do anything of note Vanillite was gone from infront of her. She tried to turn around but before she could she was struck in the back.
Snivy cried out as Vanillite floated back to his side of the field.
“Snivy, are you alright?”
She shook it off, nodding back at him, “Vi.”
He returned the gesture. He narrowed his eyes at their adversarys.
“I wonder why Ash isn’t trying Attract,” Iris muttered.
“Well, they don’t get anywhere if Trip just uses Taunt whenever they attempt it.”
She nodded at Cilan, “Yeah, that’s true.”
“Snivy, try Vine Whip again!”
“Do you ever learn?” Trip jostled his shoulders, “Vanillite, use Astonish!”
“Leaf Blade!”
“Huh?” his eyes jumped.
Vanillite had already committed to the attack, appearing behind Snivy as if he could teleport. Unfortunately, Snivy’s tail was at the ready. With her leaf-shaped tail glowing green, she spun around on a dime, hitting Vanillite by their side. Her force carried them into a complete turn.
Vanillite rocketed to the other side of the battlefield as Snivy landed firmly on her feet. She crossed her arms, standing up straight.
Trip gapped at his Pokémon’s impact. They were facing down, dirt in the air around them.
Everyone waited in tense silence for the dust to clear.
Trip tucked his hands into his hoodie, slumping slightly.
Vanillite became visible, but Don George refused to call anything without a clear understanding of the Pokémon’s state.
The Ice type struggled, to the surprise of everyone.
Vanillite turned itself over, shaking, but only to fall to the ground, swirls in his eyes.
“Vanillite is unable to battle! The winner is Ash and Snivy!”
Trip, along with the blackened icons of his three Pokémon, were wiped off the board as Ash was moved to the center. It enlarged to fit the space, with dark shots of Pidove and Oshawott and the bright Snivy icon.
“Wohoo! We did it!” “Pika peeka!”
Ash threw his head and hands up.
“Vi, Snivy,” she muttered as walked over to her trainer.
He smiled, dropping down onto one knee, “Snivy, that was super impressive! I’m so proud to have you on my team.”
Snivy stood there. Without any of her usual cool or confidence, she just looked up at him.
Ash tilted his head at her scruffed up body. He brought out her Pokéball, “Here take a long rest.”
Snivy was recalled into the device. Ash pocketed it as he stood up. He looked across the room at Trip, who was recalling Vanillite.
“Not half bad, Ash.”
He turned around was Iris and Cilan walked other to him.
“Oh really?” Ash chuckled at Iris.
Cilan nodded, “You and Trip are as honey and salt. Such a batte best shows how one contrasts the other.”
Ash rubbed the back of his neck, “I guess so.”
He heard foot steps behind him. Ash turned around while Iris and Cilan looked past his him. Trip was walking to the door, his eyes fixated on the destination instead of meeting them.
“Hey, Trip,” Ash said, walking up to him. Trip stopped, awkwardly, infront of the door.
Ash held out a hand, “Thanks for the good battle.”
Trip scoffed, looking away at nothing in particular, “Yeah, right.”
Iris crossed her arms, “Oh, don’t say that just because you lost.”
Trip snapped back, glaring at her.
“Yeah! There’s tuns to learn from losing, even if it sucks,” Ash unknowingly stopped Trip from a comeback, “You can learn from winning too! Like, I have to figure out a new strategy with Pidove. Right now we can’t beat anyone we can’t just out damage.”
Cilan leaned over Ash’s shoudler, “He’s correct! Your fighting style is clearly well thought out, but it’s strict. Like a chef who sticks to the planned cooking time despite that their food is burning.”
Trip flinched back. Then, he poked Cilan in the chest, growling, “I don’t need either of you patronizing me!”
He stepped back, forcing some distance between him and the group.
He glared at them, though it didn’t manage to seem any sort of threatening.
“I’ve been studying for years to be a trainer. Every Pokémon, their strengths and weaknesses, famous trainers. I don’t need to learn the basics from you.”
He shoved his hands into his pockets, “You only beat me because you’ve been training Pokémon longer. When we battle again, I’ll be the one winning.”
Trip turned to the door, took a breath, and walked through. The doors slid shut behind him.
Iris cocked her head to the side, “Did you hear that?”
He grinned, “Yep, we’re going to battle again. Oh man, isn’t that exciting Pikachu?”
“Pika pikachu!”
“Oh course that’s all you’re thinking about.”
“Ew axew.”
“Trip and Ash have gone on their seperate ways once again. The first is ready to prove himself in another rematch. When will they meet again? Find out… as the journey continues.”
