Charles Kaiser: Heather Cox Richardson, America’s treasure, has a new book. [My latest for The Guardian]:
In a media landscape so polluted by politicians addicted to cheap thrills (Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Orange Monster) and the pundits addicted to them (Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Steve Bannon), the success of Heather Cox Richardson is much more than a blast of fresh air. It’s a bona fide miracle…
Not since Edward P Morgan captivated the liberal elite with his nightly 15-minute broadcasts in the 1960s has one pundit been so important to so many progressive Americans at once…
Richardson’s latest book shares all the intelligence of her newsletter. ..
She is refreshingly direct about the importance of the fascist example to Trump and his Maga movement. When he used the White House to host the Republican convention in 2020, the first lady, Melania Trump, wore a “dress that evoked a Nazi uniform”.
Richardson even uses the psychological profile of Hitler by the Office of Strategic Services, the US intelligence agency during the second world war, to remind us of similarities to Trump. The OSS said Hitler’s “primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy … never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong”.

Weekend links: April 1, 2023
No April Fooling; I have AFD grudges, I would never.
If you ever followed any of my previous blogs, you will remember how I used to do news linkspams, and while I intended this to just be "here's what I posted this week," that's the format this has drifted towards. Ah well, enjoy.
My posts:
Varney the Vampire: Chapter 6: Family background and a mystery we will probably never return to
Varney the Vampire: Chapter 7: The chapter about the matches
Perfume review: Black Opium Extreme, or: skin chemistry going rogue
Poll: Do you throw away your trash at the movie theater? Background: the Fametracker forums were a very strange place in 2003. I have never actually seen Tumblr united on a topic, but here we are.
Do you have any wildly irrational neurodivergent aversions? Because I do, and it's apparently "'wearing brown."
The history of saphiret glass, which is used in very pretty blue-brown costume jewelry, re: trying to unpack the irrational brown thing.
Galleon ships made from pearl necklaces, a perfectly fine thing I have no quarrel with.

By Juleanna Glover
We long ago blew past any meaningful controls on political giving in American elections. Now we should focus on the rules governing political spending, which are in equally terrible shape. For that we can blame the Trump campaign and the federal government’s feeble enforcement efforts.
Anyone who has spent time reviewing Donald Trump’s campaign spending reports would quickly conclude they’re a governance nightmare. There is so little disclosure about what happened to the billions raised in 2020 and 2024 that donors (and maybe even the former president himself) can’t possibly know how it was spent.
Federal Election Commission campaign disclosure reports from 2020 show that much of the money donated to the Trump campaign went into a legal and financial black hole reportedly controlled by Trump family members and close associates. This year’s campaign disclosures are shaping up to be the same. Donors big and small give their hard-earned dollars to candidates with the expectation they will be spent on direct efforts to win votes. They deserve better.
During the 2020 election, almost $516 million of the over $780 million spent by the Trump campaign was directed to American Made Media Consultants, a Delaware-based private company created in 2018 that masked the identities of who ultimately received donor dollars, according to a complaint filed with the F.E.C. by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center. How A.M.M.C. spent the money was a mystery even to Mr. Trump’s campaign team, according to news reports shortly after the election.
All but 18 of the 150 largest expenditures on a Trump campaign’s 2020 F.E.C. report went to A.M.M.C. None of the expenses were itemized or otherwise explained aside from anodyne descriptions including “placed media,” “SMS advertising” and “online advertising.” F.E.C. rules require candidates to fully and accurately disclose the final recipients of their campaign disbursements, which is usually understood to include when payments are made through a vendor such as A.M.M.C. This disclosure is intended to assure donors their contributions are used for campaign expenses. Currently, neither voters nor law enforcement can know whether any laws were broken.
A.M.M.C.’s first president was reported to be Lara Trump, the wife of Mr. Trump’s son Eric. The New York Times reported that A.M.M.C. had a treasurer who was also the chief financial officer of Mr. Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, signed off on the plan to set up A.M.M.C., and one of Eric Trump’s deputies from the Trump Organization was involved in running it.
Ms. Trump is now co-chair of the Republican National Committee, which, soon after her arrival, announced it would link up with the Trump campaign for joint fund-raising. The joint entity prioritizes a PAC that pays Mr. Trump’s legal fees over the R.N.C., The Associated Press has reported, making assurances from Mr. Trump’s campaign co-manager that R.N.C. funds wouldn’t be used to pay Mr. Trump’s legal bills seem more hollow.
This election, the Trump campaign and four of its PACs have paid Red Curve Solutions, another private company, at least $18 million. The Campaign Legal Center says Red Curve appears to pay Mr. Trump’s legal bills and then gets reimbursed by the PACs. (The law is murky on what types of legal bills can be paid by campaigns, but some are allowed.) The head of Red Curve also serves as the treasurer for the Trump campaign as well as the affiliated PACs.
What percentage of donor contributions go to lawyers defending Mr. Trump? It’s impossible to know.
In June, NBC revealed the existence of a new mystery company, called Launchpad Strategies. Launchpad took in almost $15 million in Trump political cash via the Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee and the Trump National Committee. Little is known about this new group. It was created in 2023 and the Trump campaign says it is related to fund-raising. We don’t know who owns it, who runs it or where the $15 million went.
It seems likely Mr. Trump is keeping close tabs on donations flowing through campaign vehicles controlled by family members and loyalists. But from early March through July of this year, the Biden and now Harris campaign outspent the Trump campaignthree to one on advertising. By late May, the Democratic campaign had opened 200 field offices and hired 1,000 staff members in key states. The Trump campaign didn’t open its first office in the crucial battleground of Pennsylvania until June. The Biden campaign had 24 there in April.
Biden’s campaign also spent donor cash on legal bills, though apparently in far smaller quantities. It paid over $1 million for attorneys during a special counsel probe of the president’s handling of classified documents, The Associated Press reported in April.
Maybe the Trump campaign is saving up for a post-Labor Day blitz to the finish line. Or perhaps Brad Parscale, whose strategy firm took in $94 million from Trump-affiliated groups in the 2016 campaign, spent every cent of that to re-elect the president. We know he seems to have paid himself handsomely. He bought a $2.4 million Fort Lauderdale waterfront property, a BMW X6, a Range Rover and a Ferrari. When Mr. Trump learned of Mr. Parscale’s high-rolling lifestyle, he reportedly exclaimed, “That’s my money!” according to Michael Bender’s book on the Trump campaign. Concerns about Mr. Parscale reportedly drove Mr. Kushner to ensure A.M.M.C. was fully controlled by the Trump family and trusted lieutenants.
Donors should demand more information about how their money is spent. But that would most likely offend the Trump family and confidants running the campaign. And the whole point of donating to Mr. Trump is to get on his good side.
And — just hypothetically, of course — if Vice President Kamala Harris opens up her lead in the polls and the odds fall that Mr. Trump could win, who would be surprised if the unknown owners of the mystery companies paid themselves more while the campaign spigots are blasting cash and the future uncertain?
The Federal Election Commission should demand that all campaigns disclose recipients of more than $200 in campaign cash. At least that’s what the law says. Campaign Legal Center tried to get the F.E.C. to enforce disclosure rules on the Trump campaign. The commissioners voted 3 to 3 to dismiss the matter, and federal courts have declined to step in. The legal center has appealed the case to the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
The commission, long famous in Washington for its dysfunction, now seems incapable of its most basic enforcement role. The agency reportedly had only three open investigations in June despite the proliferation of hundreds of new campaigns and PACs. Congress should demand it better police the recipients of campaign contributions. And if the law is inadequate, Congress should make new ones.

Title: Decoding SEO: Essential Strategies for Modern Manufacturing Businesses The era of digital transformation has catapulted Search Engine Optimization (SEO) from the edges of internet jargon to the center of competitive business strategy across industries. For manufacturing businesses, the importance of integrating SEO tactics to attract organic, high-quality traffic and speed-up growth can't be overstated. Here's your hands-on guide to understanding and implementing SEO strategies bespoke to the needs of manufacturing businesses. SEO: The bedrock of digital visibility Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the art and science of fine-tuning online content to improve your website’s visibility to search engines – primarily Google. When correctly implemented, SEO strategies can escalate your digital prominence, elevate organic traffic, and proliferate leads, all pivotal transactions towards growth and sustainability in today's fiercely competitive manufacturing market. Embedding SEO into the Manufacturing Sector Targeted SEO can enhance a manufacturing company's online presence, foster customer relationships and, most importantly, ensure that these companies rank among top search results, making it easier for potential clients or customers to find them. Choosing the Right Keywords Keywords are the beating heart of SEO. Analyzing and determining the correct set of keywords will aid you in creating content that appeals both to your target audience and search engines. For manufacturing businesses, it might range from product keywords such as “automotive parts manufacturer” to service-oriented phrases like “industrial welding services.” Use the Google Keyword Planner or similar tools to identify high-ranking, relevant keywords within your industry. Smart Content Generation Once you have pinpointed your keywords, mould them into engaging and relevant articles, blog posts, and web pages. Remember, quality trumps quantity. High-quality, unique content not only appeals to your manufacturing audience but also pleases those search engine algorithms that prioritize informative, authoritative material. Website Optimization: More Than Just Keywords Website optimization goes beyond keyword integration. Clean, user-friendly website architectures ensure lower bounce rates and longer time spent by users. Optimize your pages by adopting a responsive design, optimizing page loading times, and making your site mobile-friendly. This step is crucial since Google's algorithms include a website's usability in its ranking factor checklist. Creating Backlinks Backlinks – links from other websites to yours – are among Google’s top-ranking factors. Connect with reliable, high-reputation industry web platforms, blogs, digital magazines, or forums to acquire valuable backlinks. These partnerships not only enhance your SEO but also offer networking opportunities within the sector. Local SEO: The Key to Direct Sales Local SEO is a treasure trove for manufacturing businesses with a local target market. Update your Google My Business profile, use local search terms, and garner positive customer reviews to jump-start your local SEO strategy. A Companies approach to SEO is never a once-and-done solution but an evolving strategy to refine and revamp continually. As such, manufacturing businesses must strike a balance between maintaining a steady online presence and embracing new SEO trends tailored for their industry. In its essence, SEO for manufacturing businesses is about being found by the right people at the right time and in the right place. A robust SEO strategy is foundational for that to happen. Case Study: ABC Manufacturing Company ABC Manufacturing Company, a well-established name in the heavy machinery industry, sought to intensify its online presence and broaden its consumer base. Though they'd already had an online presence for a few years, they weren't getting the increased inquiries or online sales they expected. After scrutinizing
their situation, they realized a significant aspect they were missing: an effective SEO strategy. Starting the SEO Journey ABC Manufacturing realized the need to adopt modern SEO strategies to enhance their online visibility. To kick off their SEO journey, they enlisted a professional digital marketing agency that specialized in SEO for manufacturing businesses. Step 1: Comprehensive Website Audit The digital agency began with a comprehensive audit of ABC’s website. This enabled them to pinpoint areas causing low search engine ranking, such as unoptimized images, slow loading pages, and a lack of mobile-friendly design. They identified essential keywords relevant to the manufacturing industry and their target audience using tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, and AHrefs. Step 2: Developing an SEO Strategy After the audit, the agency developed a tailor-made SEO strategy for ABC, focusing on optimizing metadata, creating relevant, high-quality content regularly, and building high-quality backlinks. This solid content strategy involved writing blogs and articles around targeted keywords. Step 3: Social Media Integration The digital marketing agency suggested integrating their SEO strategy with social media platforms. By creating engaging content and sharable info-graphic, they were able to generate likes, shares, and comments, indirectly boosting their SEO. Step 4: Analyzing and Tweaking After implementing this new strategy, the digital marketing agency monitored the site's performance with Google Analytics. Monthly reporting allowed them to see what was working and what wasn’t, allowing them to tweak the SEO strategy as needed. Results Within six months, ABC Manufacturing's organic website traffic had grown by 80% percent. Their bounce rate dropped, and their average session duration increased, indicating people were spending more time on the site and finding it useful. ABC Manufacturing saw an increase in online inquiries, and their conversion rate rose by 60%. They also experienced a significant movement in their ranking for competitive keywords. Takeaway This case study highlights the importance of strategic SEO implementation for modern manufacturing businesses. Key actionable steps include conducting comprehensive website audits, curating an SEO-focused content strategy, leveraging social media integration, continuously analyzing and tweaking the strategy, and embracing the dynamism of SEO. This endlessly evolving process is an investment that, when executed effectively, can yield significant return in the long term. More Looted Classified Material
Long Post: Did anyone check Putin's file cabinet?
Material From Russia Investigation Went Missing as Trump Left Office
A binder given to the Trump White House contained details that intelligence agencies believe could reveal secret sources and methods.
Tumblr media
Material from a binder with highly classified information connected to the investigation into Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 election disappeared in the final days of Donald J. Trump’s presidency, two people familiar with the matter said.
The disappearance of the material, known as the “Crossfire Hurricane” binder for the name given to the investigation by the F.B.I., vexed national security officials and set off concerns that sensitive information could be inappropriately shared, one of the people said.
The material’s disappearance was reported earlier Friday by CNN. The matter was so concerning to officials that the Senate Intelligence Committee was briefed about it last year, a U.S. official said.
The binder consists of a hodgepodge of materials related to the origins and early stages of the Russia investigation that were collected by Trump administration officials. They included copies of botched F.B.I. applications for national-security surveillance warrants to wiretap a former Trump campaign adviser as well as text messages between two F.B.I. officials involved in the inquiry, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, expressing animus toward Mr. Trump.
The substance of the material — a redacted version of which has since been made public under the Freedom of Information Act and is posted on the website of the F.B.I. — is not considered particularly sensitive, the official said.
But the raw version in the binder contained details that intelligence agencies believe could reveal secret sources and methods. (The publicly available version contains numerous portions that were whited out as classified.)
It is not clear if the missing material comprises the entire original binder of material provided to the White House for Mr. Trump’s team to review and declassify in part before leaving office.
Among other murky details, it is not known how many copies were made at the White House or how the government knows one set is missing.
The binder has been a source of recurring attention since January 2021, just before Mr. Trump left office. At the time, Mr. Trump’s aides prepared redactions to some of the material it contained because the president — who was obsessed with the Russia investigation and believed his political enemies had used it to damage his presidency — planned to declassify it and make it public.
Officials made several copies of the version with the redactions, which some Trump aides planned to release publicly.
Mr. Trump’s White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had a copy of material from the binder given to at least one conservative writer, according to testimony and court filings.
But when Justice Department officials expressed concerns that sharing some of the material would breach the Privacy Act at a time when the department was already being sued by Mr. Strzok and Ms. Page for having publicly released some of their texts, the copies were hastily retrieved, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Mr. Trump was deeply focused on what was in the binder, a person close to him said. Even after leaving the White House, Mr. Trump still wanted to push information from the binder into the public eye. He suggested, during an April 2021 interview for a book about the Trump presidency, that Mr. Meadows still had the material.
“I would let you look at them if you wanted,” Mr. Trump said in the interview. “It’s a treasure trove.”
Mr. Trump did not address a question about whether he himself had some of the material. But when a Trump aide present for the interview asked him, “Does Meadows have those?” Mr. Trump replied, “Meadows has them.”
“We had pretty much won that battle,” Mr. Trump added, referring to questions about whether his 2016 campaign had worked with Russia. “There was no collusion. There was no nothing. And I think it was maybe past its prime. It would be sort of a cool book for you to look at.”
George J. Terwilliger III, a lawyer for Mr. Meadows, said the former chief of staff was not responsible for any missing material. “Mark never took any copy of that binder home at any time,” he said.
A person familiar with the matter said, shortly after the court-authorized search of Mar-a-Lago in August 2022 by F.B.I. agents looking for classified documents, that they had not found any Crossfire Hurricane material.
Adding to the confusion about the material and who was in possession of it, a set of the Russia investigation documents that Mr. Trump believed he had declassified did not have their classification markings changed when they were given to the National Archives, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
At the time, Mr. Trump was in a standoff with the archives over the reams of presidential material he had taken with him upon leaving the White House on Jan. 20, 2021, and was resisting giving back. So Mr. Trump told advisers he would give back those boxes in exchange for the Russia-related documents.
Aides never pursued his suggestion.
In the run-up to the 2020 election, John Ratcliffe, then Mr. Trump’s director of national intelligence, declassified around 1,000 pages of intelligence materials related to the Russia investigation, which Trump allies used to try to discredit the inquiry.
In 2022, Mr. Trump made John Solomon, a conservative writer who had been briefly given the binder before it was retrieved, one of his representatives to the National Archives. This allowed Mr. Solomon to see Trump White House records deposited with the agency. He later filed a lawsuit against the government over the binder, seeking access to what he said were declassified documents from the binder being denied to him by the archives.
A court filing he submitted in August described the binder as about 10 inches thick and containing about 2,700 pages. The publicly released version is 585 pages; it is not clear what accounts for the discrepancy.
The filing said Mr. Solomon had been allowed to thumb through a version of the binder at the White House on Jan. 19, 2021. The contents, it said, included a 2017 F.B.I. report about its interview of Christopher Steele, the author of a dossier of unverified claims about Trump-Russia ties; “tasking orders” related to an F.B.I. confidential human source; “lightly-redacted” copies of botched surveillance warrant applications; and text messages between the F.B.I. officials.
The filing said Mr. Solomon or an aide had gone back to the White House that evening and had been given a copy of the materials in the binder in a paper bag, and that separately a Justice Department envelope containing some of the documents had been delivered to his office.
But as Mr. Solomon’s office was scanning the larger set, the filing said, the White House requested that the documents be returned so certain private details could be removed. Mr. Meadows promised Mr. Solomon he would get back the revised binder, it said, but he never did.
When Mr. Solomon later tried to see the binder within the Trump White House records at the National Archives, he said, the agency denied him access to a box of 2,700 pages “with varying types of classification and declassification markings” that it said it was obligated to treat as highly classified. The agency also told him it did not have the declassified version of the binder that Mr. Solomon had briefly possessed, because the Justice Department still has it.

Restocking the Buffet: Late February 2021
Hello all you happy people. This is just a  mildy quick post to talk about a few things, similar to Linkara’s state of the wall posts he does every couple of months, talking about a few recent bits of news i’ve wanted to get off my chest, next month’s schedule, upcoming plans now I have a better idea where things are at that sort of thing. If you don’t know me I do longform reviews of comics, animation and other fine stuff.
Assorted Thoughts on Recent News: The Boondocks Reboot Canceled: Let’s get to the bad news first as in an otherwise great week, some bits stuck out like a sore thumb. This is the first:  Cedric Yarburough revealed the Boondocks reboot is no longer happening , it was canceled for reasons that haven’t been properly revealed yet leaving me incredibly annoyed. For one thing as a fan of comic strips, the original show to me is one of the gold standards for both comic strip adaptations and adaptations period, taking what worked from the comic, changing things up to work for a new medium and adding tons of fun touches all it’s own. So a reboot to it tackling modern issues especially in a post george floyd post trump era was perfect.  The other reason is just as simple as it is baffling: HBO Max has exactly ONE adult cartoon worth a damn with all others they’ve tried being throughly mocked and shoved back into the stygian depths they came from. So WHY they’d cancel the one promsing show they have in reserve?
Tumblr media
Just throughly frustrating and disapointing.
Bloom County Picked up For a TV Series!: Thankfully not one day later the exact opposite happened as something I hoped for but had little hope would happen happened: Bloom County was picked up for a tv series, with creator Berkley Brethead cowriting and producing it. For those unaware of this strip, Bloom County is a satrical comic strip from the 80′s that was revivied in 2015 and follows loveable optimist and goofus Opus, braindead cat who gets into a lot of weird shit Bill, and collapsed lawyer and sexual harasser Steve Dallas among many others. It’s a national treasure as well as the source of several of my reactoin images and I even have an Opus phone on my desk my friend emma gave me. So yeah this is excting and likely to happen given fox usually at least TRIES a show for a season.. and likely two given how animation is. So even if the show sadly dosen’t take off like I hope it will and introduce dozens more to this wonderful world, i’ll at least get two great seasons of television. I have high hopes for this and good or bad, i’ll defintely be covering this one when it comes out.. whenever that is.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3.. and Knuckles: Smaller one here but ahead of Sonic 2′s release in april, Paramount annoucned both a knuckles spinoff tv show and a third season HELL YEAH. I mostly bring this up because of something we’ll get to soon.
The Casagrandes Canceled: Yup. Just.. yup. While I haven’t watched the show in a while, it’s still disapointing this is happening, though not suprising. Both this show and the parent seem to be in a rut where not much changes. With other Slice of LIfe shows like Craig of the Creek and Big City Greens FEELING like they have progress while still keeping most of the same status quo , Loud House feels stuck DESPITE having moved everyone forward a grade. Hopefully it’ll get out of this rut and give the casagrandes characters, especailly Syd, another shot.
Comixlology Revamp: Comixlogy is a digital comics service, one I use frequently as it’s cheaper, usually better and just all around rocked... but this week it pivoted to a new model, using amazon’s services and reader and it.. is not great. There are a LOT of bugs to be worked out let’s be real here and while i’m far from the only one complaning abou tit, both Patton Oswalt and Gail Simone have chimed in I hope Amazon gets their heads out of their asses and fixes this SOON.
Okay now that’s out of the way
Blog Announcements:
Schedule:
This is as always freely avaliable under the schedule tabs. Schedule may change based on need, real life stuff coming up that sorta thing.
March:  March of the Penguins! 2/27: Watchmen: The Judge of All Earth The Great North: Sexi Moose Adventure The Legend of Vox Machina Season 1 Monthly Muppets: The Great Muppet Caper 3/6: Batman: Surf’s Up, Joker Down Tomtrospective: Curse of the Blood Moon and Junkin Janna Penguin’s Behind Bars This Duckburg Life 3/13 Danny Phantom Poll 2 Amphibia: Cane Crazy/Flood Sweat and Tears/Hop Luck/Stakeout Surf’s Up Tomtrospective: A Boy and His DCXCE, Doop Doop and Sad Teen Hotline 3/20 Amphibia and Owl House: Escape to Amphibia/Follies at the Coven Day Parade Life and Times Finale Special Emma Patreon Surf’s Up 2: Wavemania 3/27 Amphibia and Owl House: Commander Anne/Sprivy/Elswhere and Elsewhen Bloom County: Headbanging and Marriage The Venture Bros Season 4 Watchmen (Film) April: Sonic Month! 4/3 Amphibia and Owl House Sonic Underground: Knuckles Quadrilogy Watchmen: Watchmaker Ducktales and Venture Bros Comparison (2nd Year Duckiversary) 4/10 Amphibia and Owl House Sonic Patreon Amphibia: The Domino Effect/Taking Charge/Anne Theft Auto/Breakout Star Monthly Muppets: Muppets Treasure Island 4/17 Amphiba and Owl House VeggieTales: An Easter Carol Sonic Poll Sonic Universe: The Tails Adventure 4/24 Amphibia And The Owl House Archie’s Sonic The Hedgehog: The Original Freedom Fighters Sonic The Hedgehog: The Movie (OVA) The Venture Bros Season 5
So a few things to talk about form these in detail
Theme Months:
Yes i’m doing TWO theme months in a row. This is Kev’s baby through and through with me only pitching in a Bloom County review on my own time because how can I celebrate penguins and not do this. So we have a look at the failed pilot penguins behind bars, which looks to be heavily intreting, a look at opus’ engagment and metal career, and a mini retrospective on the two film series Surf’s Up, one an underated fun surfing film.. the other a weird sequel i’ve never seen that has the wwe slapped on it and Vince Mccmahon’s weird mastabtory fantasies. So.. about right for a WWE product
The second is one i’ve had in the works for a while and with the film still set to come out and Emma , one of my patrons, one of my best friends and one of my main contributors, being a sonic fan, it was easy enough to collaberate for this idea.
To celebrate the sequel to the awesome first Sonic film, we have SONIC MONTH. A whole month dedicated to the blue blur with, like march of the penguins, about a review a week covering all sorts of sonic shenanigans: We have the four knuckles episodes from underground, his ONLY apperance in the DiC cartoons no less, a tbd patroen review, the tails adventure arc from archie where Bunnie and Antoine’s honeymoon an 8 year old took them on goes pearshaped thanks to a game adaptatoin decades after it shoudl’ve happened, a patreon poll choosing from the best of the criminally underated uk comic, a look at the one sonic comic kev ever owned and it’s second part, and finally capping it off with the sonic ova! Strange isn’t it?
The End of Old Projects and the Start of New Ones!:
March is also, as you can see a lot of house cleaning as I finish up both the tom retrospective and the life and times retrospective (part 1 of it anyway). After all the heavy delays I’ve sped things up slightly but you’ll get the same quality from these final reviews. I’m also FINALLY getting to my long put off due to delays review of an extremley goofy movie for my second patreon stretch goal.
So after Sonic Month and a tighter schedule in may, what’s next.  Well for starters i’ll be starting looks at every season 1 episode of Amphibia starting tommorow thanks to Tyler Spickel, one of my patreons who got me to another goal! As a reminder my patreon goals are set on how many people join, so even just one dollar a month hits them and I have a goal set up EVERY time someone does. So your buck not only nets you a free review for joining and a seat at the table when I do my polls, my patreons each get to pick one of the choices you all vote from, but also gets me to do various projects. The next one up is episode by episode reviews of Owl House season 1, since like amphibia I started covering it reguarly at season 2. So if you want to give a hoot and see me do the same, join my patreon
MY PATREON IS HERE!
I’ll also FINALLY be starting my long delayed Helluva Boss retrospective in May! I’ve been wanting to cover the show for some time but I priortizied getting everything else finished.
I’m also covering some of Justice League International in May for it’s anniversary , and if reception is positive enough I may cover it in full. I also WILl do the more than meets the eye retrospective at some point... I just started it at the worst time possible, both as I had to cut back on reviews and as I had a ton of other stuff already going. I will get back to it, it’s still one of my faviorite comics ever and I still love it, the momentum’s simply died down and i’d rather not force something this important.
For my Danny Phantom followers, I’ll finally be starting my next leg of it’s story arcs with my Jazz arc, covering Jazz finding out his idnetity, her other spotlight episode in season one 13, the two youngblood episodes, ultimate enemy and then secret weapons, along with masters of all time , the last plot relevant episode before season 3, then probably season 3 as a whole. We’ll see
Finally i’ll be covering tuca and bertie this summer  in full season reviews after the venture bros retrospective wraps up, for now, in june. It was one of my stretch goals and will slot in nicely as the new show I binge throughout the month and review a tthe end, something i’m keeping as a tradition. After that I’m considering either steven universe or x-men 95. You guys let me know which you’d prefer. As for anything else
Tumblr media
I’m keeping things open for now, thinking of things i’ve wanted to review, things I hate I want to tear apart, that sorta stuff. I’m defintely going to do something x-men related as my rouge and gambit wedding review was a decent hit and every x-centric thing i’ve done has been a success, as well as how much I love it i’m just not sure what it’ll be as I have a lot of choices. Not only that there’s a daria arc i’ve wnated to do for some time but given it stretches over pretty much all of season 4 i’ve considered just doing season by season reviews of Daria at some point instead. I’ve also had character focus retrospectives for Flame Princess from Adventure time and CJ from regular show in my head so let me know. What characters would you like me to take  alook at? What arcs from shows? what shows as a whole? Let me know what you guys would want to see and if it matches up with ideas i’ve had. What comics do you like?
Finally we have one last update to take care of
Regular Coverage:
Owl House and Amphibia are back next month! now since i’ve covered seasons 2 and 3 respectively as they’ve come out, some of you likely wonder how i’l lhandle this. As you can see from the schedule i’m pairing them up! I’ll still give these new episodes my best, but i’ll be doing both shows in one article, something I dont think i’ll get many objections to since these two fanbases have a lot of overlap. This also may be the LAST regular coverage I do. I  MIGHT do moon girl and devil dinosaw, but that depends on both what you guys would think of me doing that and if I end up liking the show enough.
That said seasonal regular coverage is getting a new addition. While we wait on Invincible and Close Enough to return, say hello to Legend of Vox Machina! Yes baby, coming at the start of march i’m covering season 1. I was blown away by this series despite not having seen critical role (yet), so you bet your ass i’m doing it , especailly now I have a nifty new format for doing full season reviews thanks to my venture bros retrospective that I like a lot more. LIke those in addition to going ham on the character arcs and what not, i’ll also be breaking down the episodes capsule style with runners, some you’ll regonize form venture bros, some exclusive to this series.
So that’s all. join me for all this fun stuff and thanks for reading.

What Makes a Car Blog Stand Out? Top 5 Features to Look For
Car blogs are really interesting and have a huge fan base among people who love cars. Finding a blog that talks about my favorite thing about cars is like finding a treasure. Can someone provide an explanation of what makes a car blog distinguishable from other car blogs out there? Don't be fooled by the glamorous images and popular technology news; rather, focus on understanding the fundamental concepts that form the basis of the profession. A great car blog successfully attracts its readers by combining a high level of knowledge, creativity, and interesting information.
If you are a car lover or just starting your automotive journey, you must know what makes an excellent car blog. I'll analyze the top five key features of the best car blogs, and be sure to check out hugotips.com for helpful advice and information on a wide range of topics.
Tumblr media
1. Specialized Expertise
A standout car blog offers more than just casual commentary or basic overviews. Often, bloggers build their reputation by focusing on a niche like luxury vehicles, racing, restoration or mechanics. Their targeted expertise allows them to deliver insider insights and advanced technical knowledge. For example, forums dedicated to BMW or Mustang modifications provide specifics that general sites cannot. Look for blogs centered around specialty topics aligned with your automotive interests.
2. Striking Photography
Cars are visual machines built for motion. Thus, the best car blogs contain stunning photos and videography capturing these kinetic sculptures in action. Glossy glamour shots present pristine models in flattering form. Yet the best blogs move beyond brochure fodder with artsy angles revealing true charm and character. And nothing brings horsepower to life better than slow motion clips of engines revving and wheels burning rubber. Vivid imaging transports readers right into the driver’s seat.
3. Diverse, Evergreen Content
No two readers share the exact same automotive tastes or needs. That’s why the most engaging blogs serve a wide spectrum, from vintage to futurology. Alongside new model reviews, long-form evaluations of older vehicles have lasting search value. Round-ups like “Best Sedans Under $30k” also mix timeless service content that car buyers have referenced for years. Balance breadth with depth for maximum appeal.
4. Two-Way Interactions
Successful top marketing and SEO blogs build online communities, not just deliver monologues into the digital void. Facilitating discussions via comments sections and social shares fosters loyalty. Curating and responding to feedback shows readers their voices matter. Polls, surveys and contests further drive participation. Influencer collaborations, cameo appearances, or hosting Reddit “Ask Me Anything” sessions make bloggers seem more accessible. Give and take cultivates connection.
5. Credible Credentials
In the era of misinformation, a blog’s background bolsters its credibility. Sites published under an established media brand inherit reputational authority. Independent blog industriesbuild trust by touting writer qualifications like engineering degrees, professional racing careers or prior roles at major automakers. Referencing tools like Alexa site metrics and SEMrush domain authority quantifies influence. Profiles with images, bios and contact options also humanize publishers. Transparency trumps anonymity.
Conclusion
As this breakdown reveals, best car blogs that educate and entertain readers with specialty insights delivered through compelling writing, dynamic visuals and interactive features truly stand apart. Check out the automotive content hub from [https://www.hugotips.com/] for inspiration. Then bookmark your new favorite car blog focused on the topics and models you care most about. Happy motoring!

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Volume 6 Chapter 1
T/N: I mostly didn’t translate a lot of the names of the ayakashi/youkai, as well as the proper nouns because uhm... They’re basically nouns. It’s like how some translated manga are done. Plus it irks me sometimes when everything just gets transliterated, it kills off the vibe. But that’s just me. Links to references at the end of the post.
Also if you like this translation, you can share the link, reblog, but for pete’s sake DO NOT REPOST ELSEWHERE. I worked hard to finish this thing, it’s not like I just Google-translated this whole sh**..
If you need refreshers on what happened, @kakuriyo-translations already had the previous translations. I’m just contributing to this fandom. Also, as previously mentioned in my other post, the 2 seasons of the anime cover volumes 1-5, so if you need a review just rewatch them all. Volume 6 starts here.
OK, here’s the stuff now.
Volume 6 - I got hired as a novice in an Ayakashi Inn** From the back cover: Autumn has visited the Ayakashi living in Kakuriyo's long-established inn Tenjin-ya. Aoi who was kidnapped by the rival inn Orio-ya, finally ended through her cooking the hardships of, and cleared the curse of the Southern Lands. Returning home victoriously, what awaits this lady are her friends in Tenjin-ya, the warmth, and the everyday busy-ness! While thinking of new souvenir products and preparing and pushing for the Autumn Festival, she reopens her Japanese Restaurant "Yugao". That time, she was invited by Odanna-sama to a fruit orchard date. Surely him always inviting her out never changed, as time after the Orio-ya incident passes her by, is she realizing that she's starting to think that she wants to know more about Odanna-sama...?
From the inside front jacket: Yuuma Midori (Author)A citizen from Fukuoka. Her debut publication published by Alpha Police: Marrying my wife is a dangerous circumstance with a giant demonic beast. Changing her pen-name after that, she published Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, I married into an Ayakashi Inn. Currently  Fujimi Bun-ko's big hit, and is now an illustrated series released by B-s LOG COMICS.
Character introduction page Tenjin-ya: An old-established place in North-eastern Kakuriyo, where Ayakashi dwell. Under the Ogre-god's (Onigami) leadership, many visiting Ayakashi helped it flourish, although sometimes humans make visits too. Odanna-sama: Master of Kakuriyo's Tenjin-ya, an Onigami respected by many Ayakashi. Even though Aoi should be wedded to him, his true intentions are currently unknown, as he watches the lady's speech and behavior. Tsubaki Aoi: College student who was whisked away against her own will in order to pay for her grandfather's debt in Tenjin-ya. Refusing Odanna-sama's marriage proposal, with her talents in cooking she manages her own Japanese restaurant, Yugao.
T/N: The volume title is a pun, it can go like "a new hire gets into an ayakashi inn" or "newly-harvested rice enters the ayakashi inn". No complaints though, but I won't spoil anything lol
Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Volume 6, Chapter 1: Autumn's Newly-harvested Rice's** Accompaniment P5 "Aoi-san! We're already at our limit!" "Gah, so far, today...." That was in the last days of September in Yugao. I, Tsubaki Aoi, scrunching my face in vexation, took a peep in the refrigerator with hardly any ingredients left. Confronting and attacking the food rations altogether, it seems that they're now all gone. I wonder if in today's opening, will the incoming guests ever cease?
Lately, Yugao's business has been spectacular all over, it has been a very, very busy time. On days when there are so many customers, when the ingredients are all used up midway, the restaurant has to close shop early, and while we're preparing so many ingredients before reopening again, on those days that we have to regulate incoming customers, not many come in and the restaurant becomes bare of people, controlling the number of incoming guests is difficult. I wonder what I'll do if it's just me doing everything inside the restaurant, and I feel like I'm already at my limit... "That matter at Orio-ya, the thing about the ceremony and all the different things have been dramatized and turned upside-down in so many ways, it has become Kakuriyo's hot topic. Aoi-san has become something that livened-up the world, and Ayakashi have been interested and drawn to you, haven't they? Even Yugao has become famous..."
T/N: It's frustrating to translate the term for newly-harvested rice. Coming from a rice-eating culture like Japan and the rest of Asia, it's easy to categorize all stages of rice because there are words that exist for that. Like they say, languages are shaped by the needs of the users. Unfortunately, English has none of those so yeah, from here on end I'll be using the term newly-harvested rice here because to be honest, it tastes a lot better than rice stocked for a long time. That one tastes dry and bland even when cooked, while newly-harvested rice smells fragrant, has a soft texture, and just doesn't taste moldy lol
P6 While on a short break from cleaning up and arranging the place after business hours, Ginji-san and I were eating dried persimmons given to us by a customer as we sat on the counters while sipping tea. "Ginji-san, you were keenly saying that, but I wasn't intending on making a ruckus in Kakuriyo." "Yes, I understand. Ayakashi have been noticing, in their own ways... Thanks to Yugao, our business is booming!" Ginji-san's tired face turned and changed into a very happy one, meanwhile I was getting anxious. As someone who is burdened with a debt I am happy that the restaurant is flourishing, even though the place is getting better overall, there are many hindrances coming out with regards to cooking, and in spite of our efforts, I still feel bad for the customers that come in. Ah, but unrelated to that, this dried persimmon tastes really good. It's center is soft and moist, and sweet, yet a faint aftertaste of the puckery seed still remains, but I love that taste. Even if the people that I hated then are that much, a lot of Grandpa's treasured food makes me yearn for the good old days. "Very soon, Yugao will need to hire new employees, don't you think so?" "New employees? Really? Well, if it's just Ginji-san and I, it's already impossible..." I agreed with Ginji-san's suggestion. Ever since we opened, the two of us had been giving our all. To put it in words, we need someone other than Ginji-san to be designated with a job post. All the more that I think Yugao needs a new staff. "Since it seems that Aoi-san is concentrating on making the dishes, you might want the new staff to bear the task of receiving guests. P7 Would you like to try putting up a "Now Hiring" sign in Tenjin-ya's announcement board?" "I wonder who would come to apply?" What kind of brand-new staff will we hire? "Aoi-sama, you're cruel!" Instantly, from the pendant that contains ogre-fire, popped out Ai-chan. She looks like me, but her cheeks were swelling with annoyance. "Why, you call me your family, and at the same time hire me as your employee! If that's the case, tell me what to do!" "Well now, Ai-chan is very eager to work?" "You haven't spoken to me in a very long time..." Is that so? I tried to recall. When I called Ai-chan out to learn about the basics of cooking, that time she went out and played with Chibi. I think Ai-chan is still an Ayakashi child, and she still haven't got the idea on what it means to be an employee. "But Ai-chan, if you feel sleepy, you can't return to the pendant. Also, on top of that, it would be weird when there's two of us working here at Yugao..." Ginji-san looked at Ai-chan and I. P8 I wonder what he thinks of us having similar faces. "Oh, that, uhm... Aoi-san is most concerned about Ai-chan, and it is that you would want to work, but I think it's surely awkward when there is someone that looks like Aoi-san, won't it?" "Wh.. Why is that...? Young master-sama, I want to work too..." Ai-chan begged earnestly to Ginji-san with her teary eyes. My face tells it all, and Ginji-san also sees that it can turn into a crazy situation, and we stuttered. "Uhm, that's... That is..." Her eyes started swimming in tears. "But we could cause confusion with the customers. They'll think Ai-chan is me, and I am Ai-chan..." "I'm definitely sure that can happen... This is not related to Yugao's business operations, but it's possible that I can swap places with a family who looks like me, but really you are a precious being. With that, won't it be better to hide?" "Really?" "Yes... If my look-alike and I were both working in here, we may have a trump card, but evil people may take advantage of that too. Because of that, Ai-chan who can do things must hide in her favorite place..." Ginji-san glimpsed at teary-eyed Ai-chan who was biting her lower lip like a child and scratching her forehead. P9 "In order for Ai-chan to work in this restaurant, there are two conditions, OK? One, when you're in duty, you can't go to sleep. The other is that you have to change your appearance into someone else's." "Someone else's appearance..." Ai-chan and I huddled and titled our heads. The thing about not sleeping is reasonable and understandable. "About that, how do I change into someone else?" "I'm sorry. That's something that you must learn on your own. Be original, OK?" "O..ri...gi..nal..?" It seems that Ai-chan doesn't understand what that means. "Well, let's see. Let's use Tokihiko-san from Orio-ya as an example.** In the beginning, that person was just made up of many little Youkai flames**, but right now he can't change into anything else, he can only change into the shape he already has. If you change your appearance into someone else, if you change it to look like me, that's a whole different level, but Ai-chan is still a child, I wonder if she can understand?" But Ai-chan yells "I'll do it!" and raises her hand in proclamation. "I'll do my best in making my own appearance!" "Wooooowwww..." Ginji-san and I lightly clapped our hands for Ai-chan who was in high spirits.
T/N: In Volume 3, where Shizuna and Tokihiko meet again, like the episodes before the Orio-ya arc, it was briefly explained that ayakashi are formed from objects, when the consciousness enters the objects and make them sentient. I’ll probably translate that once I finished volumes 6-10, or maybe not. P10 "But because it's sleepy-time, I'll go back to the pendant!" "Whaaat." She immediately returned into ogre-fire, and Ai-chan hid back into the pendant in my bosom. The pendant's flickering light makes it seem like Ai-chan was sleeping and snoozing peacefully inside. "She seems serious, about the whole 'What appearance should I make' thing." "As soon as she wanted to slep, she already entered a new period of growth. In just a short time, I think she's already like an Ayakashi that stays awake late at night... It's because Ayakashi by nature don't sleep that much." "It's not like that, it's just that employes and everyone else just have short sleeping schedules. It's toxic**, it's something I thought of, but it's not really like that..." "No, it's not something like that. It's because Tenjin-ya also considerably receives nice wholesome** citizens of Kakuriyo. And that is why it's always very busy." "What, wait, doesn't that make it mixed**?" Well, whatever, I only sleep 10 minutes everyday, and even though it's a rest day tomorrow, it's not a problem for me. And for sure, when that busy day comes, I'd be very happy to receive Ai-chan's help. Whatever that child's appearance would make, I'll be looking forward to it.
T/N: the original words used were BLACK, WHITE, and GRAY. Black is considered to be the dark side of things aka toxic workplaces, White is the usual nice and wholesome facade, and the Gray was just inserted to complete the pun because in color theory thingy, BLACK+WHITE=GRAY. But that's just me lol You have been warned that this light novel uses a lot of puns P11 "Aoi--- Fooooood---" "Oh, that person's here." That person, is that Yuki-onna. Always, after Yugao's business hours, it's always the same, she always comes, the former Young Mistress but is now the waitress O-ryo. "Now's not a good time, O-ryo. There's none already." "Waaait, again? No rice? Even the rice is gone too?" "Even if I cook the rice, that's just it. Tomorrow is Yugao's rest day, and there aren't any excess ingredients here." "Then as long as there's rice that can be cooked, it's fine. I really love rice. Newly-harvested rice** is the most delicious, isn't it?" If that's the case, then there's nothing else to eat here, Ginji-san and I whispered to each other. But O-ryo just invited herself in the counters, and I had no choice but to stand up and start preparing to cook the rice. Just as O-ryo said, it's already the season of delicious rice. Especially in the land of Ogre's Gate, the rice brand "Onihonoka" is a famous specialty and souvenir, harvested either in the last days of August to the first days of September, polished immediately after harvest and is now back in the market. P12 But, if we use newly-harvested rice here in Yugao, it's distinct grains that contain a lot of moisture can really rake in the positive points. When cooking rice it is common that the little water added will decrease as it cooks, and it tastes all the more better. I wonder if O-ryo can wait for 30 minutes as the rice gets soaked.** "Wait, O-ryo sama!" The next one who came in was that horse chestnut girl, with her signature Tanuki ears and the round, fluffy tail. It was Tenjin-ya's lower-ranking waitress, Kasuga. "We thought we lost the bottle opener at the banquet hall. O-ryo sama, when your duties ended you immediately went to Yugao, and our new-hired waiters and waitresses had to search here and there. I was about to do some deliveries but I had to take charge of our newbies." "Oh, really? Kasuga, why didn't you just remember to let your juniors do it?" "But it's O-ryo sama's fault. All of the juniors and everyone has been doing their best here." "Oh, fine, there, there. Kasuga, you're also giving it your all, OK?" Whether it's because she's tired or she just deemed the answer was acceptable and ran away with it, Kasuga just allowed O-ryo to roughly pat her head. And when the bottle opener that had a bell made out of ice was produced, Kasuga immediately stuck it inside her obi. When the bell chimed, a clear tinkling sound echoed. "Isn't that ice bell lovely?"
T/N: Hot tip, if you're cooking rice, not the instant kind, if you want a less fussy method just soak it for at least 30 minutes before boiling it, it makes it cook faster, especially when the rice is long-grain, brown or colored rice, or the dry grained ones that are better for fried rice because the grains don't stick together. P13 "Yes. I won't give it to you, Kasuga." "I don't have a need for it, and for that reason it's not an important conversation." Kasuga sighed with a dumbfounded expression. In this situation I don't know who's the senior and who's the underling. "Oh, by the way, Young Master-sama, Odanna-sama calls for you." "Wah, is that so, Kasuga-san? Oh, it's probably the matter about the Autumn Festival. Aoi-san, I have to go to the main building for a bit, ok?" "Yes, thank you for your hard work, Ginji-san." Ginji-san's head bobbed as he bowed, and with a quick pace left Yugao. "Kasuga, even today you were asked to do a lot of things here and there, weren't you?" "Yeah, that's true. Everyone was telling me to go here and run over there. Oh well, I'll get used to it somehow." Kasuga meekly and quietly sat beside were O-ryo was sitting. Did this girl also went here to eat some newly-harvested rice? "Aoi--- Is it done? I'm hungry-- Isn't Kakuriyo's pot cooking fast enough?" "Whaaat. Please wait a bit more, O-ryo. Because it's newly-harvested rice, I only had it soaked for a bit." "Ehhh... That's already fine. Whether it gets cooked or not, because I'm hungry." P14 I wanted to choose the best way to cook the newly-harvested rice, so I could relish its delicious taste, but I wonder if I just lost to O-ryo's explanation just like this while the rice was cooking. She seems to be already at the limit of her patience, and she started to violently beat the counters. "Aoi--- Aoi--- Rice! Let me eat rice!" "Hold it there, big woman baby! Stop beating the counters, or else it will fall apart." My table.. Really, O-ryo can really be so selfish... "Yo, is there any grub to eat?" Akatsuki, like the usual routine, came here. O-ryo, Kasuga, and Akatsuki, repeatedly always come here, and were becoming "Give me food, give me food" Ayakashi. "I'm sorry Akatsuki, today there's nothing left. O-ryo said she's fine with just white rice, and that's what I'm cooking right now." "I'm also fine with just rice. Do you have any pickles?" Akatsuki sat beside the counter where Kasuga was, where two people were already sitting at. It has always been like this. "Wherever rice is offered as if for the gods, there's always a line on the counters. One way or another, Ayakashi love rice, don't they?" Finally, the rice on the stove has cooked. Kakuriyo's pots only need five minutes to cook rice, and it's really very convenient. P15 "Akatsuki, you haven't used up your salary and vacation leaves this year, haven't you? You don't have a girlfriend, and you give me the impression that working is your hobby. You're that kind of guy, aren't you?" While doing nothing on an empty stomach, O-ryo started bickering with Akatsuki, who was beyond Kasuga's seat. Even thought it's not nice, O-ryo toys Akatsuki a lot, who was younger than her. Akatsuki's face spells like "Shut up, you're noisy" whenever he's tired after work. "It's better to think about frolicking and having fun, Akatsuki. It's a waste, no matter how much you work, being a guy who looks angry and has no excess time to have some time to have fun." "Stop talking to me already, O-ryo." "Whaaat. How conceited. I'm the senior and you're the junior. I'm older than you and you're younger than me." "And so? You dropped being in the management staff and now you're a waitress. Between being a head clerk and a waitress, I'm higher-ranked." "Arrrghh, this guy is so UN-ADORABLE!" "O-ryo sama, you're noisy!" O-ryo's shrill voice spreads out, and Akatsuki and Kasuga both covered their ears. I opened Yugao's kitchen's refrigerator as I pinched my small ears shut. There wasn't any ingredients left to make side dishes, so I just took the rice out and served it. As I was doing this, I was laughing by myself. Hee hee hee.. "I could hear Aoi-chan letting out a weird laugh." P16 "What meals are she thinking of, at this point?" "Aoi is indeed an Ayakashi that cooks and cooks, isn't she?" Until now, O-ryo, Kasuga and Akatsuki were all whispering and back-biting me. But that's what I felt. After waiting, the newly-harvest rice that we have been waiting for has been cooked. After the boiled rice was done, I opened the lid and a foggy yet aromatic steam was released, and my stomach started to grumble on its own. As I stirred the freshly-cooked rice, I divided it and placed some on the rice tub. Using a wooden rice paddle I tried checking its texture and taste, it was springy, and its sweetness was enjoyable. "OK, there's a lot of rice, so please just eat however you like." In the restaurant's table where the rice tub was placed, in Akatsuki and Kasuga's usual rice bowls, and in O-ryo's favorite and sometimes variable larger bowl, I served them the white rice. I piled a lot of it. Each grain was puffy and glossy, which is due to the rice's freshness. "Yay! Let's eat!" O-ryo speedily and hungrily ate the rice, as she was holding her bowl and chopsticks. Hmph, O-ryo just quieted down right now. "Kasuga, Akatsuki, aren't you two hungry too? Start eating up." P17 "Ehhhrm.... It's hard to eat like O-ryo with just the white rice..." "Aren't there any pickled food, Aoi-chan?" "Tsk, tsk, how about if I place this here?" I placed a jar in between Kasuga and Akatsuki's counters. At first, they just stared at it in bewilderment, but carefully examined the jar's contents. Kasuga seemed to immediately get what it was. "Oh, I know it! It's nametake, enoki mushrooms!" "Yes, I made it from all of the mushrooms collected this Autumn, and I placed a lot of it. I goes great with white rice. I added it to our Autumn's daily specials." As soon as I opened the jar's lid, and scooped the nametake with a wooden spoon, I placed a lot on top of their rice in the two rice bowls. The brown mushrooms were flowing and melting and moist due to being boiled down. Enoki, shimeji, shiitake, these were all seasoned with the mild soy sauce that Ayakashi love. Sugar, mirin, sake and other seasonings were also added as staples, and in my case, there's also a bit of vinegar and some spicy peppers. These were added to give a hint of spiciness and sourness to the mild flavor. To make excellent preserved food, cold tofu, boiled down greens using dashi stock and others can be added and turned into one dish. While the nametake is mixed in with the piping hot rice, Kasuga and Akatsuki heartily wolfed down their food. "Wow... This meal is filling in my empty stomach.." P18 "This is delicious!" The enoki makes a crispy and appetizing sound. O-ryo, who was growing tired of the white rice, and seems to have noticed the nametake that Kasuga and Akatsuki were eating, started staring at it with longing eyes. "O-ryo, if you want to eat some nametake, please have some too." What the.. I have barely finished talking and O-ryo already stole the nametake jar. "Wah, it's my rice's buddy!" "O-ryo sama, it's greedy of you to take it for yourself!" "Kasuga, Akatsuki, don't worry, there are other partners for your rice." The poor things, but because there were other food that pair up well with rice, I brought them out. Toppings such as pickled plums, ground meat mixed with miso and lotus root, daikon pickled in vinegar with kelp, I brought out various preserved dishes too. Because rice goes well with many daily staples, many others were served on the side. "I am pushing this powerful medicine. I stir-fried some Hijiki seaweed that still has its water, along with the gritty and crisp pickled plum with some dashi stock. It really goes well with rice." Deprived of the nametake, Akatsuki tried adding the plum and seaweed mix as a rice topping. The crunchy texture and sourness of the plum, and the strong umami taste of the seaweed was incorporated, and this was a very luxurious and delightful taste. It doesn't need any other side dish, this makes it a full and satisfying topping. P19 When making onigiri, it can be added to the rice. It's excellent for emergencies. After experimenting with both the kelp and vinegar-pickled daikon as well as the meat mixed with miso and lotus root, O-ryo started eyeing at everything again, and I placed some little by little in the saucer that she was using. It' s great that she gets to enjoy a wide variety to pair up with her rice. It's exciting to think like what could be the next one you'll taste, with each bite. Once in a while, it's nice to just enjoy and relish the taste of the newly-harvested rice. After a while, I decided to eat some rice, and went back to the kitchen to get the rice bowl I normally use. "Ah, I just remembered something!" That's it. There were still two slices left in the refrigerator for the staff's breakfast. Autumn salmon. If I defrost that, I can make another rice pair-up! "Hee hee hee. A staple rice accompaniment: salmon flakes!"** I defrosted the salmon slice on the dish with Yokai fire, flayed the skin off, and lightly seared the surface on a frying pan, added salt, dashi, mirin, sake and other seasonings then heated this on a low flame. Sauteing this with a wooden spatula while adding some water to soften it, it's all what I need to do. Hee hee hee... "That Aoi-chan is laughing in the kitchen again..." "It smells like fish being cooked..." "Hold up, Aoi! Why are you cooking fish just for yourself? My nose isn't deceiving me!" T/N: I actually do this with meat, tofu, fish or whatever I add to vegetable dishes to make them more tasty. In Japan, they call this ground meat, fish or tofu that is seasoned and sauted as "Flake". You can just prepare a large batch, and use them as needed. I guess all those hours watching Tokuson Life Hacks also helped a lot lol P20 "Don't worry Kasuga, Akatsuki, O-ryo. Everyone's going to eat what I'm making." That said, it's my last serving. Reduce the water, when the flesh has fallen apart, add white sesame seeds and sesame oil, and lightly saute it. It's really easy. The home-made salmon flake is done. "It 's done! It's done! From kids to adults, everyone will love it, the best to be paired with rice, salmon flakes! Loose salmon topping, is it easy to understand?" "Ohhh..." "That smells really good!" As soon as I brought this in front of them, O-ryo and Akatsuki's voices just sounded with admiration. Since their bowls were already devoid of rice, they both wanted to fill their bowls with another serving. But they started fighting on who should be going to get more rice to add in the rice tub, and Kasuga went up and took the rice tub on her own to refill it. She's really the most adult in this bunch. "Ahhh, I can finally eat some rice too!" Thereafter, I placed some hot, piping rice on my bowl and I could finally eat my supper. For the first time, we're going to partake the crumbly salmon flakes that I made. I can use that for onigiri, and it's going to be a favorite item in bento boxes. P21 We can do the bottling, the marketing, and the selling, as our products are really delicious, but it seems that I'll have to make it and do it all by myself. Slicing, adding water, seasoning.. I'll do it how I like it. The glossy and clean rice due to it being freshly-harvested, when you add the shiny and reddish-brown color of the salmon flakes, eating it with a spoon just makes you gobble it all up. Ah, the autumn's salmon is really tasty and fatty. When mixed and used as rice topping, in one bite the umami and saltiness goes well with the mild, sweetness of the rice. Adding the white sesame and sesame oil's fragrances, the salmon's taste, flavor and aroma improves. "Wah, this tastes so delicious, I wanna have a bowlful more.." "O-ryo sama, if you eat more than that, you'll get fat. But I want a bowlful more too..." "I knew it, it's the autumn salmon. It really pairs well with the rice." It looks like everyone got satisfied with the salmon flakes. Oh no, this is bad. We have quickly eaten the rice... We took in so much carbs..." Even the meat mixed with miso and lotus root, the miso-flavored meat and the crunchy texture of the lotus root, really, really goes well with rice too. When you want to cleanse the palate, munching on the vinegar and kelp-pickled daikon is a fitting and refreshing break. "Aoi-dono!" Sasuke-kun, the O-niwaban guard has come here to Yugao. P22 Sasuke-kun was holding a bamboo straining basket, in his usual ninja-style. And, well, inside that basket were fresh red eggs. "These are the cassowary eggs that I have gathered tonight. The Master and Young Master sent me here to deliver these to you with my life, as it is a pity that there is only white rice to eat. You can now make egg-topped rice**." I bumped into him while running. That was the ultimate, crowning, and appropriate pairing to the rice. This is awesome! TKG has arrived here!** "Wah, I'll eat another bowlful more---" "Hey, that's unfair of you, O-ryo. Me too!" "Me too. It's because eggs are also served now." In the middle of the night, the Ayakashi were eating white rice in reckless abandon. "Please, I would like to fill my stomach with a bowlful of rice." "Yes, Sasuke-kun, please come have some." Anyone can't hide their excitement with egg-topped rice. Hollowing top of the hot, piping rice, when the shell is cracked open, the lovely raw egg is dropped in here. The cassowary's rich egg yolk's color, its shine, its jelly-like appearance, when it covers the rice, it has an irresistable charm. T/N: If you're going to try this, just a reminder that bacteria like Salmonella can contaminate the egg. Only do this with super-fresh eggs from a seller you trust because getting sick isn't worth it. TKG is basically tamago-kake-gohan, or how I wrote it here, egg-topped rice. P23 Ah, just looking at it, I know it's definitely delicious. "For sure, with egg-topped rice, it's Kakuriyo's mild soy sauce, isn't it?" I wanted a simple approach. "Soy sauce is good, but adding a little sesame oil is also delicious." As expected of O-ryo, who is in the majority group. "As a minority, I like mine to have noodle soup base and wasabi." From my peripheral vision I could see Akatsuki grumbling. But that seems to be delicious too. "I always eat it with ponzu. If there's dried bonito flakes and fried onions I'll add those too." For some reason, this was expected of Kasuga. "If there are seasonings, I'll add them." Sasuke-kun is too gallant. "Ok, ok, you can eat your differing favorites, that's good." Everyone's demands were heard, and I took various seasonings and flavorings and placed these at the center of the table. I, nonetheless the simpleton just added a bit of soy sauce over the yolk, and lightly broke it, mixing it with my chopsticks. In that moment, I felt a wonderful, happy feeling. Probably, just adding the egg, I haven't even finished mixing the runny egg in, I already took a bite. "Wahhh, taking the first bite of egg-topped rice is really something, isn't it?" P24 The rich flavor of the egg yolk makes it the best and enjoyable. After relishing the first bite, I completely mixed everything, and ate some more. "Hey, everyone, the meat with miso and lotus root also goes well with the egg-topped rice." Everyone noticed the previously-ignored meat with miso after Kasuga's discovery. Wah, it really does taste well together. This is a great discovery! Egg-topped rice is awesome! Just by itself is delicious, but arranging and adding flavors for variation, it's going to be an awesome feast. "It looks like you are all having fun." "Oh, Odanna-sama." Odanna-sama and Ginji-san came to Yugao together. O-ryo and Kasuga, Akatsuki and Sasuke-kun, who were all until now eating like as if in a stupor, all suddenly stopped and stood up, and deeply bowed to Odanna-sama. "It's alright, continue eating. Those are rare eggs." As if waiting for those words, everyone sat down again and continued eating. "Well, what's up? It's been a long time since you came here. Did both of you came here for some egg-topped rice? If that's the case, we have a lot right now." "No, it's not that, a while ago we welcomed some guests and we sat for a bit and already had our meals." P25 "I also may have drank a bit too much... That liquor was a tad strong.. Uhm.. I will eat some later, ok?" Both Ginji-san and Odanna-sama were definitely tipsy, somewhat. If they received some guests during work, why were they suddenly here? While in the middle of his rapid and nonchalant talking, is he going to suggest something? "Aoi, isn't Yugao on a break tomorrow? If you're free, let's go out on a date." "What?" In an instant. I realized that everyone who was continuing their eating all stopped their chopsticks. The Odanna-sama in question, who was really in a giddy mood continued smiling. "Aoi hasn't had a rest and had always been working hard even after returning from the Orio-ya matter. And I apologize for not taking the time too, for a long while. As a new wife, Aoi has not experienced any hour of fun at all." "It's fine, I have fun every day..." "That's it! Let's go to an orchard park. We can prepare food with apples and grapes, how's that?" While my face holds desperation, somehow Odanna-sama firmly grips my shoulder. "How's that" he says. "Apples and grapes, huh..." Pointing my finger to my chin, an idea popped into my head. For sure, there will be delicious autumn fruits. P26 "OK, let's go, Odanna-sama. I am interested in the orchard park." "I'm happy to hear you say that, Aoi!" With a sigh of relief, Odanna-sama wiped the sweat on his brow. The crowd of egg-topping eaters behind me, once again started moving their chopsticks. "Aoi-san, the orchard park is inside a mountain that connects the northern and north-eastern lands. The autumn leaves in that mountain change early, and I already heard that they're already in full display, so I hope that you can also enjoy the scenery tomorrow." "Ginji-san, you're not coming too?" "Me? I, uhm..." "You also haven't taken a break since the matter with Orio-ya, you should really take a break. Won't you come with us tomorrow?" Odanna-sama invited him, but Ginji-san looked at both Odanna-sama and I, and with a small smile shook his head. "No, thank you. I think I will take care of Tenjin-ya in Odanna-sama and Aoi-san's absence." I think it's the usual Ginji-san answer, but in that time, he wasn't looking at me.

Other stuff I used to do this: Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Dictionary (you can buy here, I’m not sponsored btw). I was about to buy the older edition but then the newer one came out 2013 so I bought that instead. Worth buying since I was able to find nearly all of the words I needed just by stroke pattern alone.
Merriam-Webster's Japanese-English Dictionary (the red-covered 1996 version is apparently out of print right now). This is what I have been using for a very long time, I bought it when I was still a fetus (yes I am old so what lol), and after so many years, when compared to newer editions, I still prefer this one since its entirety is Japanese-English, the English to Japanese gloss are just 16 pages tops, so you get more Japanese words for your buck. But that’s just my opinion, maybe other people prefer the Jap-En x En-Jap IDEK.
Basic online dictionary, Jisho. Knowledge of verb conjugations  and other words are necessary since not all have entries.
If you can read Japanese, you can buy the whole set in Amazon Japan, they’re shipping worldwide now, I think.

(NYTimes) Biden Administration to Bar Drilling on Millions of Acres in Alaska
The administration will cancel existing drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and fence off more than half of the National Petroleum Reserve.
Tumblr media
Climate Forward  There’s an ongoing crisis — and tons of news. Our newsletter keeps you up to date.
In its most aggressive move yet to protect millions of acres of pristine Alaskan wilderness from oil and gas exploration, the Biden administration announced it would prohibit drilling in 13 million acres of the National Petroleum Reserve and cancel all the existing leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The new regulations would ensure “maximum protections” for nearly half of the petroleum reserve, but it would not stop the enormous Willow oil drilling project in the same vicinity that President Biden approved this year.
Climate activists, particularly young environmentalists, were angered by Mr. Biden’s decision  to allow the Willow project, calling it a “carbon bomb.” Since then, the administration has taken pains to emphasize its efforts to reduce the carbon emissions that result from burning oil and gas and that are driving climate change.
“We have a responsibility to protect this treasured region for all ages,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “Canceling all remaining oil and gas leases issued under the previous administration in the Arctic Refuge and protecting more than 13 million acres in the western Arctic will help preserve our Arctic lands and wildlife, while honoring the culture, history, and enduring wisdom of Alaska Natives who have lived on these lands since time immemorial.”
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was opened to drilling under President Donald J. Trump, a move that outraged environmentalists and overturned six decades of protections for the largest remaining stretch of untouched wilderness in the United States.
The refuge in the northeastern corner of Alaska is home to grizzly and polar bears, snowy owls, migratory birds and herds of moose and caribou.
But it also sits atop an estimated 11 billion barrels of oil and for years, the fossil fuel industry, members of the Alaskan congressional delegation and state leaders lobbied for drilling. In 2017 Congress passed, and Mr. Trump signed, a tax law that not only authorized but required leasing for drilling in the wildlife refuge.
The Trump administration held a lease sale that attracted just three bidders, including the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, a state agency. Most of the major oil companies stayed on the sidelines.
On his first day in office, Mr. Biden signed an executive order halting Arctic drilling and in 2021 suspended the leases that had been granted by the Trump administration, citing problems with the environmental review. Last month a federal judge rejected a challenge by the state of Alaska, saying the federal government had the authority to suspend the leases while it conducted an additional environmental analysis.
That review found “multiple legal deficiencies” in the analysis that had been conducted by the Trump administration. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said two of the leases in the refuge were canceled and refunded at the request of the lease holders. The remaining leases held by the Alaska development authority covered about 365,000 acres in the coastal plain.
“There are some places where oil and gas drilling and industrial development simply do not belong,” Ms. Haaland said. “With today’s action, no one will have rights to drill for oil in one of the most sensitive landscapes on earth. Climate change is the crisis of our lifetime, and we cannot ignore the disproportionate impacts being felt in the Arctic.”
The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority did not respond to a request for comment. In August it called the U.S. District Court ruling a disappointment, saying canceling leases would hurt the state’s the ability to create jobs and revenue.
“Jobs are critical for our state,” Randy Ruaro, the industrial development and export authority executive director, said in a statement at the time, adding “This is especially true for rural areas such as Northern Alaska.”
Chris Wood, the president of Trout Unlimited, an environmental group, called the protections for the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska “one of the most significant conservation achievements of the past 20 years.”
John Leshy, a public lands expert who served in the Interior Department during the Carter and Clinton administrations noted that the state was the only remaining leaseholder in the refuge. The Biden administration could have standing to cancel those leases if it found that environmental reviews and other compliance measures on the leases had been inadequate, he said.
The state of Alaska “would doubtless contest that in court,” Mr. Leshy said. He added that the outcome was not predictable.
“The bigger picture here is that no one but the state sees any future in drilling the refuge,” he said.

The Biden administration has put an end to Donald Trump’s last minute attempt to allow oil drilling in a sensitive wildlife refuge in Alaska.
In January, Mr Trump pushed ahead with the sale for the rights to drill for oil on around 5% of the refuge, just days before his presidential term ended.
Covering some 19 million acres (78,000 sq km) the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is often described as America's last great wilderness.

During his campaign, Mr Biden pledged to protect the habitat.
"President Biden believes America's national treasures are cultural and economic cornerstones of our country," White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy said in a statement.
"He is grateful for the prompt action by the Department of the Interior to suspend all leasing pending a review of decisions made in the last administration's final days that could have changed the character of this special place forever," she added.
We don’t need to encourage fossil fuel production and consumption. And we certainly shouldn’t be sliming one of the last great large wilderness areas in the US in order to obtain outmoded fossil fuels

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is safe as long as there are pro-environment Democrats in the White House.
