Family
Hen Wilson week 2025, Day 6: Family
A soft morning in the Wilson house set in season 8, involving morning cuddles after sleeping in and family breakfast with Hen, Karen, Denny and Mara. Prompts by @henwilsonweek
On ao3.
Ships: Henren
Warnings: none
~~~
It was a long shift yesterday, so Hen is sleeping in. Though, right now, she would call it more snoozing than sleeping. She’s in that little limbo between sleep and waking as she snuggles into her pillow and listens to the noises in the house.
She’s pretty sure Karen is making breakfast, because she can hear clattering coming from the kitchen as well as the noise of vague chatter. A smile comes over Hen’s face as she burrows into the pillow. This is her life, the life she has always wanted and it’s all hers.
A part of her wants to join them out there, but another part of her is just so content to lay in bed and listen to the domestic life happening around her.
Five more minutes, she decides.
Denny’s voice gets louder, tinted with enthusiasm. Probably explaining something, Hen guesses. He’s been really into this game recently and tells them all about the lore at any chance. Both her and Karen hope he never loses that joy in sharing his passions.
Hen doesn’t know what was said, but Mara has joined in now, her higher pitched voice echoing through the home. She has become more comfortable with being loud and taking up space, both her moms are so very proud of her.
Mara’s stint in the Buckley-Han household has turned her into a bit of a movie buff and a fan girl. It’s something they try to encourage, wanting her to have hobbies, but it can lead to sometimes loud discussions between her and Denny if a video game has a movie or adjacent series.
This morning is not the exception, but Hen doesn’t care. She loves her kids. Their kids. Karen’s laughter can also be heard, so whatever the topic is, it must be a little silly, not heated.
She just lays there smile wide as she listens, basking in the sounds of her family that make this house into their home.
At some point, the clattering increases, before she can hear two pairs of smaller feet coming down the hall. The noise reminds her of when her and Karen decided to expand their family, what they said to each other then: ‘A couple more footsteps stomping around the house might be nice.’
The journey to getting there is definitely not what either of them imagined back then, but Hen wouldn’t change it for the world. They way they got their kids might not be what one would call conventional, but it’s theirs and it’s perfect.
The door of the bedroom opens and Hen rolls over to peer at it, still blinking sleep out of her eyes as she does. Mara jumps on the bed, smiling: “Mama!” before burrowing under her arm.
Denny follows in behind her, carrying a big steaming mug of coffee. He puts it down on the bedside table, saying: “Mom told me to bring this to you. And to call you for breakfast.”
“Thank you,” Hen says, scooting over a little and lifting her other arm as well as quirking a brow. For a moment, it seems like teenage embarrassment will prevent Denny from taking her up on the offer, but then he smiles and also climbs into the bed on Hen’s other side.
“You two having a good morning?” she asks once they’re all settled in bed.
Both nod, launching into a recap of their discussion of the morning as well as excitedly informing Hen about the fact that Karen is making them all pancakes. Hen listens attentively, but mostly lets their voices wash over her.
Last shift was not jus long, but also rough, hearing her kids babble the way they are, is the most soothing thing that can exist for her right now. There is no better medicine if she’s honest.
Their cuddle is interrupted by Karen, who appears in the threshold, leaning against the doorframe and crossing her arms. She’s clearly going for stern, but her amusement is too strong and overrides it too much to be taken seriously as she says: “Wow, so much for getting mama out of bed. You all got in.”
Denny just grins back at her mischievously. “It’s really comfortable, mom. You should try it.”
“Maybe I will,” Karen tells him, rising to his bait. She quickly closes the distance between her and the bed, actually hopping on it and falling forward over them with an: “Ahhhh!”
Mara shrieks with delight and Denny nearly rolls off the bed with how he braces himself for the impact of her landing. Hen, who takes her brunt of her weight, just lets out a whoosh of air, before a startled laugh escapes her.
The four of them have a giggle fit on the bed. When the dust settles, Hen in the middle with Karen half on top of her, Mara on her one side and Denny on the other.
When they’re finally done, Denny suggests: “Pancakes?”
“Oh, I see how it is,” Karen snorts.
“I’m down for pancakes,” Hen grins at her.
“Pancakes!” Mara also cheers.
“Alright, let’s go see if the pancakes are still warm,” Karen smiles a little faux-exasperation present in her voice, before she rolls off everyone, setting them free.
Mara instantly bounces off the bed, Denny right behind her, the two of them more excited about the pancakes than the two adults still on the bed.
Once they’re out the door, Karen turns back to Hen, her fond smile turning into gentle curiosity as she asks: “How are you feeling? Sleep well?”
“I did, thank you,” Hen replies, her own expression filled with adoration. “You had a good morning with the kids?”
“It was perfect, but better now that you’re awake,” Karen grins, pecking Hen on the lips, before pulling back and climbing off the bed to where Denny and Mara are calling for them.
Hen smiles dopily at where she had just been for a moment, before blinking and shaking her head. She throws the covers off her and rubs the last bit of sleep out of her eyes. The coffee is still warm, so she takes a gulp, before joining her family at the table.
Denny is already shoveling pancakes into his mouth. Lately he’s been eating like it’s nobody’s business, growing like a weed too. Ahh, teenagehood. Mara is still busy with the honey, which she is attempting to drown the pancakes with.
Hen takes a seat behind her own plate and puts some strawberries on hers, then nudges Mara softly and asks: “May I have the honey, please? Or are you not done yet?”
It’s a habit they’ve developed by fostering so much, to always politely ask for stuff without the expectation that they have to give it, especially when it’s food. The result is that the whole Wilson household has become more polite when it comes about asking things and Hen doesn’t think it will go away anytime soon.
Fortunately, Mara isn’t too attached to the honey and is done waterboarding her pancakes. So, she happily hands it over with a: “Here you go, mama.”
“Thank you, sweetheart,” Hen smiles, unable to help her self and ruffling the top of her head for a second, as she takes the honey.
Their little family of four eat their breakfast as they chat about their day.
Denny wants to beat this level in his game and promises to make his homework before he does. Mara really wants to go grocery shopping with Karen – Hen suspects it’s primarily for the candy bars she always manages to weasel out of Karen, but it’s cute how much Karen and Mara like going grocery shopping together, so she’s not saying anything.
After a little while, it turns to Karen’s job, since she says she wants to work on her project for a bit this weekend. Both Denny and Mara think Karen’s job is the coolest. Hen pretends it hurts, since firefighter is one of the coolest job, but she can’t fully disagree either. Karen has a way to make it sound like the most fascinating thing there is. Plus, it’s literally rocket science, what beats out rocket science? It’s space!
As Karen excitedly explains what they’re doing now, Hen just sits there and watches them all. When she was a little kid herself, sitting in her room in the small apartment her mom could afford, wondering if her dad would ever come into her life, if she would ever make it further, if she would ever be able to get out of here, she never could have imagined having this, but she does.
Life can work in mysterious ways and the Universe doesn’t always set you on a direct path, but Hen believes that if you keep going, you’ll end up where you need to be. And this? This is right where she needs to be.
She takes another sip of coffee and smiles. Life is good, even with the rough shifts and how she’s had to fight for her family.
~~
I have a page for my worldbuilding projects that’s a huge WIP, but in the mean time, here’s a list of the ones I can remember off the top of my head! I’ve done my best to split these by genre, although some obviously fit in multiple categories. You can also browse through my "original stuff" tag for things that haven't made it as far as a concrete project, if you can tolerate the mess.
UPDATE: Tumblr changed their tag system, so I had to fix the links. They SHOULD be working, but chronological links don’t cooperate with mobile, so I’ve made them general links. Please add /chrono to the url if you can, a few of these are very weird out of order (looking at you, Boar’s Blood).
Urban Fantasy
Witchmouth General; comedy about a hospital in a city that is mostly monsters and aliens
Freedom Over Gold; a comedy-drama about a trio of homunculi killing their masters
Immortality and Tax Fraud; a comedy about gods who possess people and the hosts that are still resisting them (slightly NSFW)
Mundane Motherhood; a slice of life/recovery story about a woman who adopts a kid who was being raised to fight demons
The Empty City; a drama about a limbo world entered in dreams by people who compete for “days”, which give them another day of life in the real world
The Mortal Forge; an adventure story about a group of cursed people putting together an expedition to find a legendary cure
Tethered; a slice of life story in a setting where everyone has a familiar, starring two teenagers who are “tethering” their familiars, allowing them to become more physical and sentient
Fallen Angels in YOUR Area!; a comedy about a group of angels who are banished to earth for gaining too much individuality
Arlan Kingslayer; a comedy about classic high fantasy book characters being brought to the real world and not wanting to leave
High Fantasy
Boar’s Blood; an adventure story about a magical society built on the grave of an undead dragon that is rapidly falling apart (NSFW)
The Phoenix Bride; an adventure story/romance about a woman exploring an ever-expanding magical tower to confess her feelings to the woman who created it
God Hunters; technically closer to magical steampunk, an all-women drama about monster hunters (NSFW)
Scales and Bonedust; in a setting where some humans live in dwellings draped over the backs of dragons, a man and a dragonling try to find their way home after their whole community is killed
Rabbitheart; a fairy tale of sorts about a young jester (and would-be sorceress) trying to reclaim her familiar to earn a princess' hand in marriage, with a large section of backstory about the setting's version of Arthurian lore
The Mayfly; a dark fantasy about a mortal half-elf prince learning the truth of elven immortality
Whalefall; merfolk dark fantasy about a "bloodsalt knight" (a soldier who bites themselves to draw attacking predators to the blood and away from their school) who is separated from her people
Mark the End; trope manipulation on 'everyone grows up and has babies' endings where the children are the reborn god-monsters their guardians fought as teenagers. heavy on monster lore and character drama
Vampire Prince Walter; a romantic comedy about childhood sweethearts (who have since become a vampire and a werewolf) being arranged to marry each other... as long as their fathers don't find out they like each other too much to spy on the other.
Science Fiction
New Apocalyptia; a comedy about a world where all movie apocalypses happened at once (slightly NSFW)
Salt Water; an adventure story about a group trying to reach the bottom of their world’s incredibly deadly oceans, also mermaids and surfing as a death sport
Peppermint Circuits; a gay love story set in a world where everyone has a chip in their brain to influence their behavior (slightly NSFW)
Spycaller; a murder mystery about humans who interact with the intergalactic community from within mech suits
Superheroes
Superfish; a traditional coming of age superhero story about an LGBT group for college-aged sidekicks
Isaac is Okay; a very gentle story about a timetraveling superhero that traps himself in the past to raise his younger self away from their abusive father
Villain Risk; a superhero drama about an illegal hero team being arrested, told after the fact by a social worker, a kid in juvenile detention, and a shapeshifter who killed a cop and stole his life
Fate and Switch; a soulmate au fakeout about psychically linked superheroes who have been brainwashed, and their partners’ attempts to find them
Tooth and Nail; a superhero/kaiju mashup about bioengineered superheroes fighting monsters, and the protagonist’s attempts to protect his new apprentice from the horrors of their work
You Can Keep the Mask On; a superhero story intended to be told through sexual encounters between characters, obviously (very NSFW)
Overpowered; a comedy about a city's extremely, well, overpowered supervillains
Abelsons; a superhero story focusing on the "support" members, such as the people who make costumes and the medics
Bonus Individual Posts
that one about the destiny orphanage that one about the silkworm aliens
I love your verglas au I need to know more about Bronze she’s so CUUUUUUTE
Hii!! Oh gosh I haven't done anything with that character in a while I'm sorry anon 😭
Bronze is a young cat with superhealing abilities from the Sol Dimension's future! She serves as the Sol Dimension variant of Silver. Since I'm currently reworking & and still coming up with a lot of Sol Dimension Expanded's lore (new name for the Verglas AU), she's in a bit of a limbo state.
I'm sorta split as to whether she'll show up in the main story, or if she'll get an individual spinoff slash side story. She basically has the same issues as Silver lol, it's a matter of figuring out when and/or why she'll appear. Time travel is a really tricky thing to tackle, and I want to make sure I do it right - we're not having a repeat of Sonic 06 in this AU, lol. I do want to give her an outfit redesign though, since I've improved a lot since last time I drew her.
Actually, now that I think about it... maybe I should work on fixing her up next lol. I'm sorry that I don't have a lot of info right now anon, but I'll try to update her lore and design ASAP!
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I write in whatever the default is. I never got around to caring about fonts or things because I knew it would end up posted somewhere that has it's own base font anyway (ao3, tumblr)
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
This is a hard one only because I feel like I go through times where I can write one fine and the other is just annoyingly difficult xD if I had to pick though, I think I would choose dialogue because sometimes I struggle with picking out the right words and terms to describe scenes and keep things from repeating. With dialogue I can usually find some sort of flow even if I have no idea where the character is standing in a room.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
I think about old fics sometimes and how the wrong fics aways gain traction. It always works out that something you don't really like after it's finished is the thing that everyone else seems to enjoy, and then you're kinda just stuck in limbo with it. A lot of unfinished fics haunt me too, especially when I start thinking about how it's probably easy to just finish this or put an ending to that, but then I get worried that it's been too long or my writing will be too different or it just won't work and then repeat that process for anything still sitting around xD
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
I don't usually cut out things. If anything the biggest edits/cuts happen during editing which is the final step of writing for me, and I can only remember a handful of lines that I thought were really cool and then ended up deleting. If I do enjoy something enough that I want to hold onto it, I'll move it to the bottom of the doc to see if I can work it in somewhere else.
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
You specifically picked this to dig around for fic spoilers xD truth is besides the little one shots I've done over these past two weeks I really haven't touched anything else. There's lots of wips that i'm excited to finish if it ever happens - the apocalypse fic was really me trying to deep dive into a dark long work about the horrors of humanity, the chenji royalty au is about finding a home in someone broken, crack the shell is literally cyberpunk winter solider au with a sequel already planned, head above water is me trying to branch out into something inherently different than what I'm used to, and what I'm staring next for lads is going to be me adding whump and expanding/fleshing out an given au verse with lots of potential. When I do prompts or short works it's mostly to give me a restart when it's been a while since writing last.
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Already Answered Here
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
Already Answered Here
#asks#oh and don't forget railway fic which is#making things actually about trains and being forced to trust someone you don't know#with a bit of what groundhog day? thrown in?#when in doubt time warp out xD
Ok, so everyone is talking about how they don't like the ending because of the past between c!tommy and c!dream and the context behind it and phrasing and implications but I want to talk about the LORE reason the finale was bullshit.
It changed too many things without explaining anything or setting up anything.
Dream and Punz had Tommy and Tubbo at their mercy and talk about what they'd learned from their off-camera months of experimenting with Life and Death and learning about the Balance between them.
That's really cool! It expands on the world-building of the server, showing the ramifications of Dream's actions. His and Punz's God Complexes. They're not super clear, though, and are too wrapped up in "you're too simple-minded" being repeated instead of actually explaining anything. What balance was put-off that they now have to right? (or try to right in their own twisted way) How do they know this? Why would killing everyone fix the balance?
Then, SOMEHOW, their book that REVIVES THE DEAD allows them to learn about The End. Most viewers probably didn't know that canonically the characters don't know about the end, but it's been established at least since Technoblade and Philza found the stronghold and thought it would be funny to make a table out of the End Portal. So, this makes The End Dimension connected to Death. Super Cool! What are they going to do with this?
Jack shit. They, uh, they do jack shit with this information and all the other information they dump on Loreheads last minute. Instead, the next stream has Tommy and Dream (and Punz, but tbh he's just kinda...there during the conversations) talk about why they both miss the simpler times and they somehow make Tommy....idk we're still debating whether or not he forgave Dream or just empathized or sympathized or whatever. I don't care to debate that here. My point is they do NOTHING with this new information, so I thought it would be brought up in Season 2, but with the fucking Nuke plotline and Amnesia reveal, they clearly WON'T.
They don't do anything! They don't expand on Limbo, they don't expand on the Revival Process, they don't expand on anything we've previously had questions on, despite teasing them like 'why does Tommy not have a ghost?'. And even if their explanations went over my head, it doesn't matter! Because they throw it all away to make room for the season 2 set-up.
At the very least despite the characterization complaints everyone has, I was hoping for something like background lore to give me something to talk about and find interest in instead of criticizing, but nope! I guess not!
The Problem with Gallifrey (and how to fix it)
Gallifrey is kinda boring…by that, I mean it's as boring as it has been written to be.
I think Gallifrey can be tough to have stories on because majority of the time it serves a lot of plot functions that don’t add up to it being a particularly coherent or grounded place. Which is to say that when it’s been televised that seems to be ALL it’s there to do.
It’s been stuck in this weird limbo position of writers having to base stories purely within the Citadel or use it as a pretence for other stories, we almost never get to meet the people outside of that or spend much time digging into political machinations of their civilisation. Instead, writers have to create arbitrary situations and throw the Doctor into them.
Because their way of life is so alien, part of me thinks it’s out of fear of delving into deep would remove the mysticism that comes from them. Considering there's basically no tangible constrains on what they can do it basically gives anyone free reign to come up with whatever mad conceptual idea their hearts desire. It’s Simultaneously beyond human and extremely human; it’s said to be fantastical but when we see it it’s presented as extremely mundane.
New who especially I think has failed to reach a concurrent middle ground. You either have disgruntled civil servant types spouting out typical political jargon or roaming around Gallifreyan residential areas that suspiciously resemble huts. Classic who had a similar issue too, by spending far TOO much time on Gallifrey, mostly being confined within the Citadel walls straining itself into a chokehold that’s never been allowed to breathe outside of the limited boundaries it set itself. andd the budget being about 10p.
I always think in a society where someone can regenerate into anybody else is quite unlikely to resemble the stuffy world of pompous old duffers we’re use to seeing, although from a mythic perspective it kind of needs to look like that, but the show shouldn’t be strictly beholden to that association otherwise you have the dilemma DW has been in since the War Games.
Big Finish/NAs on the other hand, have created a vast expansive history. You get stuff like the Divergent Universe where the TimeLord's mastery of the cosmos came at a terrible cost that comes back to bite them. They have sentient houses for crying out loud! The expanded media is rich with ideas and weird lore to spawn a sloth of interesting stories.
Unfortunately, the problem with Gallifrey is that it’s a big epic sci-fi/fantasy setting designed ought to have big epic narratives built around it. But these types of narratives don’t really fit into the format of the show. Big Finish’s Gallifrey series is great outlier, because they can have seasons worth to delve into the mythology and intrigue surrounding it. Any Gallifrey story that has to be encompassed in one or two episodes is bound to leave wanting more.
However, we’re now in the rather unique (or redundant) position where Gallifrey is gone, but given the events/time when this happening occurred were left incredibly vague, it's now open to opportunities to carry on without the overplayed time war angst story, without completely undoing Chibnall’s contribution.
Most people I’ve seen feel the need to remove TTC from canon, simply because they don't like it. Whatever anyone thinks of it, the Timeless Child happened. Trying to headcanon it as “The Master/Matrix lied, Susan/The Master/Yaz is TTC instead” doesn't solve anything as there is no way it will stand as a valid argument when the next series rolls around and next one after that, which may or may not choose to cross paths with it.
Personally, I think a good direction to follow would have the scattered survivors be forced to move on in the wake of their planet’s destruction. Perhaps some TimeLords managed to escape and are now scattered across the universe. Potentially have ppl come across the ravaged remains of the Citadel, scavenging for weapons and technology or have the Doctor and CO occasionally run into a Timelord just living life on an alien world.
Essentially Nomads wondering throughout the universe. Have them adjust to new surroundings/environments. Gallifrey has been such a crutch for the Timelords, its stunted them from allowing to grow and evolve as actual characters as well as a society, other than stuffy bureaucrats in daft headgear.
If they wanted to commit to the idea of it being destroyed but want it to feel distinct from the post-time war arc, then this is the way to move forward. Bringing it back for the sake of satisfying disgruntled fans is NOT the right direction.
Bring them back down to feeling beyond our understanding. Make them feel otherworldly. Conceptually Gallifrey can be interesting but DW has rarely capitalised on that. They need to focus on the Time Lords as a mystical powerful force, not the planet itself. Having the status quo reset AGAIN is pretty tiresome as well as pointless, there’s so much story potential in having them be an active presence for once.
They’re much more engrossing when used conceptually and thematically. Russell had Gallifrey/Timelords represent a traumatic period in the Doctors life, Chibs used them as a colonial allegory, Moffat…had them exist I guess.
Now better than ever is the perfect time to reinvent them, wether its dealt with in S14 or 10 years from now. It’s time to move forward.
1, 3, and if possible 4?
WIP Asks | @archerdiana
I’m going to be talking about Living for these questions.
1: Summarize your WIP in 10 words or less.
Let’s see. I’m going to try a few and see how close I can get.
A newly turned vampire joins a werewolf pack.
Something is killing humans. Will the real killer be caught?
A vampire left on their own is a dead one.
This one’s hard! Oh man, I thought this was a straight-forward fic until I had to do this. I don’t think I can think of a summary in 10 words that actually includes all the different plots in this story.
3: Does your WIP have a title? If so, explain its significance. If not, what are you calling it for now?
It does! It used to be called “Cute” because it started out as a drabble and that was a good summary of what that drabble was about. When I expanded it into a fic, I changed the name to “Living”.
A lot of this fic is based around Kagome dealing with becoming a vampire. It’s a jarring experience, especially because she’s taken in by the local werewolf pack. She’s stuck in a spot between human, vampire, and werewolf where she has a unique opportunity to carve out her existence in a way that suits her. I chose Living as both a representation of her rebuilding in her new ‘life’ and a play on words with the fact that vampires have to die in order to be created.
4: Describe the setting of your WIP.
I haven’t said this explicitly in the fic, but I’ve placed this story in a fictional city in a non-specified country. This non-specified country is based after a typical American city because I live in the US and that’s what I know. While I adore fics that are set in Japan, I don’t know enough about the country, cities, and culture to be able to write a story without spending hours upon hours researching. I know it’s a cheap out, but most of my stories end up being set in this kind of limbo setting.
There’s also a huge paranormal/supernatural world in it. Humans don’t know anything is going on, but werewolves and vampires exist somewhat cohesively. This story is focused heavily on the werewolf side of things, but the vampire lore, culture, and polical scene will be cropping up as the plot goes on.
It’s modern in this era, but because werewolves and vampires exist outside of human development, there will be inconsistencies and throwbacks to different times to help establish their different cultures.
Ugh, I feel this answer is really choppy and disjointed and I know that’s because it’s midnight and I’m exhausted. I’ll try to clean it up tomorrow if I can.
Thank you for sending! I had a lot of fun talking through these questions. :)
Note
may i kindly ask you all the oc questions?
Yes, yes you may.
Quick note: A few OCsI won’t mention by name and a few answers will be vague just as to not spoilanything. I have an entire fanversegoing on here.
-50 OC Asks-
Quick reference: Meri is the Hero of Kvatch. Arrais a Breton mage in Skyrim. Dreyns is a Dunmer assassin. Vitiais the Dragonborn. Sannit is an old, former Ashlander. Veabris is an Ayleid who’saround back before the First Era. Jaka is the Nerevarine. Estor isNot a Thalmor ™. Stigr is a proud Nord boi. La’Mihr is a smart kitty. One-Who-Knowsis yearning for the suburban Skyrim dream.
1. “Your first OCever?”
That would be proto Meri. She was really the first that grew into an actual character. She was also supposed to star in an Oblivionrewrite/webcomic/fanfic thing I drew like one page of years ago.
2. “Do you have a personal favouriteamong your OCs?”
I like different ones for different reasons! Arra’s dialogue and one-liners, Dreyns’swhole ark of getting old, Vitia’s philosophy, etc. etc.
3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?
Nope. And I’d neverconsider them mine. I handcraft them andbake them one-of-a-kind each time. Butmore seriously, the most I could take is an idea for a character, because Ialways like to twist things on their head and really make it my own. I don’t enjoy writing NPCs for thisreason. I can’t get in their head and myheadcanons get a bit much, so I’d rather just write for those I know.
4. “A character you rarely talk about?”
Tactus Gavros Sigilis! An inspector/investigator for the Empirein Skyrim.
5. “If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?”
I think that’s not really up to me. I can’t decide who fans will latch onto. I know who’s the most well-liked at thistime, but that’s no indicator of who would be well-loved by a much wideraudience. I’ll leave this one to my fans!
6. “Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?”
I do my best to give everyone unique looks andclothing/color schemes, but! There’sthree that got based on each other and aren’t the same but even I’m confusednow. I’ll make a separate post to breakit down.
7. “Are your OCs part of any story or stories?”
None of them exist outside of the Elder Scrolls universe,and I have yet to write fanfiction.
8. “Do you RP as any of your OCs? If you do, introduce one of your RP OCs here!”
Currently Arra, Sannit, and Veabris. Though I think I’m game to RPing any of them,I already have a few more that I want to add to my RPing blog! (btw, if you like the idea of RPing with me,all you have to do is ask.)
9. “Would you ever be willing to give any of your OCs to someone else?”
No. Not give, nevergive. But that doesn’t mean they can’tappear in your writing/meta/art, just that it’s a crossover, you don’t own themjust like I don’t own yours when I allude to them in RPs. (Did I ever post that here?)
10. “Introduce an OC with a complicated design?”
All the ones I don’t draw, lol
Okay, more seriously…no, that’s pretty much why.
11. “Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a ‘sunshine’?”
100% Arra
12. “Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lot”
Can I say all of them? My favorites are the ones who are woven into the lore and pre-existingcharacters, and ones that feel like real people and not just “ArgonainDragonborn #76”. I like the ones whotake it as seriously as me, and as I see people do, I feel more confident totalk about and expand them.
13. “Do you have any troublemaker OCs?”
Actually, not really. Dreyns, Jaka and Stigr can all be at times, though.
14. “Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory”
I want to legit change that to one without tragedy in theirbackstory because they’re all tragic…
15. “Do you like to talk about your OCs with other people?”
Sometimes! But I trynot to go overboard because I’m not sure if people like it.
16. “Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)?”
My Daedric biologist, I would imagine.
17. “Any OC OTPs?”
I’m not much of a shipper, honestly. And I really can’t think of any at themoment.
18. “Any OC crackships?”
Read 17.
19. “Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)”
I’ll pass on this one only because my answer would start gettingtoo personal for this ask.
20. “Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details(headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?”
Veabris has a beautiful singing voice that would sound agood deal like Annie Lennox. Actually,just listen to “Into the West” and you’re good to good. But you’ll never hear it because Vea is superself-conscious and private about singing.
21. “Your most artistic OC?”
You know, I think I overlook making them artistic justbecause I am. It would be too obvious. But let’s say Stigr and La’Mihr are.
22. “Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?”
In world or OOC? That’s a really important distinction! But Veabris’s intentions are usually misinterpreted.
23. “Introduce an OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what thecharacter would be like?”
Most of them! I workon them for a while until I feel they’re ready to be revealed. 24. “If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?”
Don’t do this to me!!!! Ahhhh I don’t know I love them all! But Jaka would probably be the most fun to hang out with? Then again, a day out with Sannit would begreat.
25. “The OC that resembles you the most (same hobby, height, sharedlike/dislike for something etc?)”
Meri.
26. “Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about themagainst your will?”
Arra and yes, I’m still bitter about it. I won’t get into it because I’d rather notmake posts like that, but if anyone would like to know feel free to message me.
27. “Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?”
Nah, they come about and the songs fit them after.
28. “Your most dangerous OC?”
Okay! So we haveMankar Camoran’s kid, Molag Bal’s Undying Champion, a lesser Daedric Prince anda double-memoried Godkiller. Have funwith that battle royal!
29. “Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned house at nightwithout telling anyone they’re going?”
Tactus Gavros Sigilis, it’s his literal job. Wait it’s Estor’s too. …And kinda Veabris’s. Well!
30. “Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animalcollection?”
It’s Dreyns. It’s soDreyns.
31. “Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like(what they reblog, layout, anything really)”
Sannit treats it like a regular website blog and only postsstories from his life or answers to asks. No reblogs and he doesn’t follow anyone.
Meri posts advanced DYI stuff and martial technique.
32. “Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonistand why?”
I don’t play horror games but I’m thinking Estor in creepy,culty fan theory version of Rorikstead. (Should I write this?)
33. “Your shyest OC?”
She’s so shy she won’t let me talk about her.
34. “Do you have any twin characters?”
Not yet!
35. “Any sibling characters?”
Yes but I won’t say just now. Spoilers!
36. “Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else(siblings, lovers, friends etc)?”
Not currently, but I’m not against doing it.
37. “Introduce an OC who is not quite human”
The Argonian, One-Who-Knows! He’s saving up money to buy a new fancy hat right now. Rock on, scaly bro!
38. “Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer?”
I feel like it would be Vitia for some reason.
39. “Introduce any character you want!”
THESE QUESTIONS ARE TOO VAGUE AGHHHH!!
40. “Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!”
Writing “Arra’s Story” (An RP post). The power and emotion of it and the approvingly,emotionally shocked reactions of my fellow players made me realize I couldactually write good.
41. “Has anyone drawn fanart of your OCs? If yes, maybe show a picture or twohere (remember sources & permissions!)”
Here and here 😊
42. “Which one of your OCs would be the most interested in Greek gods?”
Daedric biologist person would be!
43. “Do you have any certain type when you create your OCs? Do you tend tofavour some certain traits or looks? It’s time to confess!”
We already found out I like investigators, is that my type?
44. “Something you like about your OCs in general”
I like how they all have gotten their own personality andidentity. It’s taken a lot of work, but Idon’t feel like personalities repeat anymore.
45. “A character you no longer use?”
I have a few in limbo. I’m not sure if they’re coming back or they’re
46. “Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly?”
No. Only because Ihaven’t told them about all the bad things I’ve done to them in the first place.
47. “Has anyone ever (friendly) claimed any of your OCs as their child?”
Not yet, there’s still time.
48. “OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure?”
I think they call this a “hot take”, but in my opinion everyperson has flaws and depicting them otherwise is bad character writing. Like sure, they can be nice and all, but theystill topple the board over when they’re losing Risk (or Axis & Allies). Showing only one side of a character seriously,(not if it’s just for laughs) is boring to me. Where’s the growth? They don’teven need to have “flaws” per se. Whatif the “One True Hero to Save the World is balled up on the floor crying tothemselves because they don’t think they’re strong enough? Hot take over and it’s probably little kidDreyns. (Which breaks hearts because hegrows up into something not pure.)
49. “Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes”
Arra would love meme songs like “SEAGULLS! (Stop ItNow)“He-man singing “What’s up?”, and “mmm whatcha say”. And Jaka would love reaction gifs and objectlabeling memes.
50. “Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you want”
I wanna talk about how long it took to fill this out and howmany characters I resurrected from the darkest depths of my mind to completeit. You’re welcome. ♥
#answering asks#henantier#ily laurel thank you for supporting whatever it is I do here#sorry bout the wait#I didn't realize just how long 50 of something is#Arra#Meri Rendil#Dreyns Nelvayn#Stigr and Estor#sannit#tactus gs#Jaka Rul
eve of Hekate
Stars’ Crossing * * Crossed roads, slowly swaying entrance beads from day to night. Slip in between to become for that instant of eternity dancing gypsy calling to Moon, to storytelling stars. Embrace that mystery, train tracking adventure. Breathe forgotten fields, lush or shriveled, dependent on water and feed. Let go of all but one brave hand solidly grasped to the doorway. Let go; let fingers fall reaching. * * * * Second Star to the Right * * Traveling beyond Persephone’s garden on the etheric threshold ‘tween mortality and death. Taking an oblique path at the crossroads onto an accessway along the axis of bliss. It’s not a road on which the dramas fade. It’s not about a numbing block to pain. Drama unfolds — my chemistry responds exquisitely. Touch is just touch; sensation translates information. All the appointed tasks, routine errands of the everyday, little pauses along the bliss path, allow me to breathe the scent of endless possibilities, as path and consciousness expand blissfully aware. * * * * Liminal Spaces * * Twilight, the wee hours, the dark of the moon, liminal spaces, places where magic dwells, crossroads, crises, cusps. * There is static on the radio. A song my voice was singing, rhythm of sound takes flight to surround me, a comforter of down to ease my soul. * I’ve been trying to define a taste, a sense of bittersweet and salt. I’ve been trying to find a trace a footprint in the desert, a sight, a scent, a memory. I’ve been trying to discern a trace of me, a piece to fit the puzzle, my contribution to the grand design. Seeking in shadows, the space between myth and matter, those places words cannot define. On those insubstantial plains of myst and awe, the stuff of dreams, threshold of wonder, creation is spawned. * * * * Crossing the Threshold * * At the crossroads at midnight My lady did swear That she must be alone To face up to her demons * “Please understand that I must be aware of just who I am and where I’ve come from.” * I sat by the bridge as she set forth her tools, her sorcerer lore, her alchemic runes So she’d know who to honor, to break and to blame What she’d been made for, her journey, her truth. * At the crossroads, past midnight, just before dawn My lady thrice nodded and stamped out her flames. She beckoned I join her out on the meadow to kiss and rejoice and reveal our true names. * * * * Cross Purpose * * At hours’ crossroads, Reason drowns in rage, scathe, irradiated rain, treasonous air. Weary of care, of punishing, bottomless anger, of sobbing men robbed of their right to give birth. Wrested from Mama’s warmth, from the cave, to play brave. And it’s ladies’ choice as you squirm in fool’s corner. Such a chore — kissing at this and that for a chance to score the shame, the blame from stuck-out tongues, the bloody laughter. “I could bite off that little thing — make you squat to pee.” Wired to fight, at any cost, because, of course, the Cross proclaims “We’re right. They are inherently wrong.” “Those below must be taught to obey our superior tools, to be broken, that we may ride.” Against our better fate, sad race divides along strict lines, by difference nature devised to spawn us strong. * * * * Alchemy * * Simple acceptance. The dancer with the dance entering pre-dawn mystery. Quiet interval, enchanting music. Undulating reverie. Alone in Hekate’s garden, breathing in memory of jasmine and spice. Weary roads traveled crossroad to crossroad; the journey continues. Weary days have found sustenance in secreted hovels, dimestore romance. Convoluted talk, empty gestures, soul-less ritual take up the stitches of time. Some brave midnight, if I learn my lessons well, I will eat the fruits of Hekate’s garden, dancing in piquant reverie, leaving my tears and anguish along the windswept trail. Ebullient music dances me as the Goddess kisses my tearstains into gold. Degree of my natal Hekate — a liminal year for the dweller on the threshold. The search is for clarity, expanding borders, introducing elasticity as integral character. To see, to feel, to merge and undulate through; to discover, uncover, swim in the glory of original grace, ecstatic beauty. To see, to feel, to breathe in all exquisite luxury of prescience; to hold, transmit as cellular energy. To paint upon translucent canvas subliminal etchings, private symbols generously revealed. Sagacity gifted, re-gifted, planted in potent fertility of visions, of cantations. The tinsel of starlight; the subtle scent of conflagrated pain; the feather touch of eternity. I fall into velvet voice, enchanting form. Move with the rhythm; caressed within word and worlds’ mysteries. Eve of Hecate As we approach the 13th of August celebration of the Dark Moon Goddess under shining Moonlight, Faery Queen or fabled harlot stirs potent night blooms, expelling myths of what we cannot bear, cannot overcome Feel in the electric falling starlight Spells of renewal, of power to look back upon our falterings, to find the seed now grown yet changing still and ever, able, willing, co-creating in the illuminated shadow invoking the peace of dissolving twilight of midnight's hopeful resurrection of the hinting flame that lightens before the dawn take peace into each breath, each incantation from the strength to align impeccably with your deepest truth The transition to the transformation of death is a different kind of birth. Hecate would understand, the Goddess of birth and death and the spaces between, thresholds, doorways, crossroads, limbo. Goddess Hecate, I understand that I am in your realm for this duration, for this direction in which you are moving my consciousness. Bless me, Goddess. Give me your strength of purpose and will, serenity within the maelstrom. The future is one moment at a time. The time is always now. Who I am to become will amaze me, I’m sure. Hekate Is My Cellar Door I am in awe I am prostrate in acceptance of such power as you bestow to me by incultation of your love Dynamism resounds in every fiber I breathe you in without resistance My exhalation is the stuff of bliss Tell your sisters to breathe with me. I have been working with an inner image of Hecate, the underworld, ancient, self-empowered goddess of birth/death/life. As I am understanding, her lesson is about becoming one's true self, unafraid of social appropriation because not in need of permission to totally embrace one's own magick. To begin to find this inner core (unless, I suppose, one is lucky enough to have never lost it), one needs to go through, truly feel and accept, all the pain and miseries of one's life, to learn that these are not what life is about, not punishments, though sometimes warnings, but just an interpretation of what is. A very long time ago, on a cold and windy winter night, a friend told me: open up to the cold and feel it, don't resist -- it is really warm. On those nights when I remember and try it, it really is. Hekate's Child Child of Hekate, sweetness and light? Where is the mark of your entombment? Buried prematurely, to strive for growth in dark enclosure striving for a breath of the pompously negligent Sun, of the blushing Moon of the squabbling sons and daughters, of daylight's pleasures. Striving, tenderly twisting around corners aching for an unknown touch. "Tell me, sir, then, how's it going now?" Looking up narrowly from a tepid meal, all at once remembering playfellows on the schoolyard running, out of breath, filled with pride a jolly good game. Always someone begging my attention, but it wasn't really me, just a story to steam off or a butt to joke on. All the silly give and take; only time is taken and that in big hungry chunks of no tomorrows. One long day now the part all groggy waking from fevered napping. It wasn't supposed to be a tomb nestled in Transylvanian bloodlines. It was meant to be a child's cot, freshly laundered cotton lace. But the rats got in, once the cats had been slaughtered. Slowly wakening I strive again to find my footing. Learning to walk was never as easy as forgetting to fly. Caught up in my Hecate role, I feel the power of my soul. Rain and wind and ice and snow I feel you all from here below, and revel in elemental energy. I am the wind, the seas, the fire I am all will and all desire. It is me you love, and me you hate — I am the master of your fate. Yet I am hidden from all sight, beyond the reach or need of light. I have found my peace, my place, my voice. Take heed, O’ mortal, create your choice. Create it every day.
The 100’s Decision to Sideline Clarke is Part of a Larger Season 7 Problem
https://ift.tt/2DDz9I7
The following contains The 100 spoilers.
Heading into the final season of The 100, most fans didn’t really know what to expect. After a penultimate season that catapulted the characters we knew over a century into the future, deposited them on an unknown planet and introduced literal bodysnatchers pretending to be gods, pretty much anything seemed possible.
For the most part, Season 7 has swung for the fences, establishing new and complex sci-fi concepts involving teleportation stones, time dilation, and a planet inhabited by another, completely different human civilization. It’s been a ton of fun to watch, but it’s often felt as though Season 7 has been relentlessly expanding The 100’s overall narrative, rather than contracting it. This doesn’t feel like a show that’s working on wrapping things up as its final episodes loom in the distance, or maneuvering its characters into a place that’s anywhere close to a satisfying end.
One of the most frustrating results of this disconnect is Season 7’s decision to sideline its primary protagonist. Love her or hate her, Clarke Griffin has been the heart of The 100 from the very first episode, and her journey has always – rightfully – been at the center of the show’s story. But now that we’ve reached the series’ final season, that suddenly no longer feels like the case. At the moment, Clarke’s story feels like an afterthought. She has no real arc to speak of, has barely even appeared onscreen for half the season, and generally takes a narrative backseat to any one of a half dozen other characters when she does show up. As a fan, this decision is both jarring and disorienting, precisely because Clarke’s presence has been so instrumental to this show, for both good and ill.
Over the course of The 100, we’ve watched Clarke grow up, becoming a leader, a mother, and a monster by turns. Willing to make difficult choices and commit horrible atrocities in the name of the people she loves, Clarke is a survivor who has saved the world and lost everything more than once. She’s failed spectacularly at times but also fought to build a life out of the ashes of those various destructions, carried her weight in grief, and picked herself up in the face of terrible odds over and over again. Clarke’s a hero who has more than earned that moniker, and on some level, we were likely all hoping this final season of The 100 might finally give her some peace.
Well, the joke’s on us, because at the moment, she’s not really doing much of anything.
The 100 Ending Will Change Our Perspective on the Series, Says Showrunner
The 100 Season 7 Episode 11 Review: Etherea
By Lacy Baugher
The 100 has always been deft at balancing stories between an ever-evolving cast while keeping a core group of characters firmly at its center. This season, that’s largely still true, at least in the sense that the narrative is juggling a wide array of perspectives and plot arcs. But it does seem – and admittedly some of this appears to be out of the show’s control, thanks to external events affecting the series’ actors – as though Season 7 is purposefully ignoring many of the characters that should be central, narratively speaking, to whatever ending it’s trying to craft.
Hope, Diyoza and Octavia’s newfound family is interesting, and the story of their time on Sky Ring is compelling. So is the bottle episode that backfills Bellamy’s lost time and depicts his weird religious conversion. The hour that gives us a more detailed look at the world of Cadogan and his Disciples on Bardo is both disturbing and entertaining. And I loved “Anaconda,” even though it’s an episode that only exists to serve as the backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off we may never see. Yet, even though all those things are true – this is also the final season of the entire show! It’s impossible to feel like these stories – as good as they are – deserve entire episodes to themselves when there are precious few hours remaining in this universe.
With just a handful of episodes left, it’s ludicrous that we’ve seen so little of Clarke in Season 7, particularly after all she went through in the previous season. (Most of which we’ve barely seen the fallout from.) She lost her mother, nearly died (again), was possessed by the consciousness of a Prime that planned to take over her body forever, and was once again responsible for the deaths of a large number of people, as well as the total destruction of Sanctum’s (admittedly, yikes) way of life.
After all that, it feels as though the series’ final season should be a reckoning, of sorts, a chance for Clarke and the rest of her people to finally, truly “do better” as Monty urged them in his farewell message on the ship that brought them to Sanctum. That these last episodes should not only show us our favorites healing, but also building a truly new life with a future that might actually last for once. Instead, a dark commander is terrorizing the Grounder clans as Bill Cadogan, of all people, is preparing humanity to fight another war against some sort of unknown assailant.
Don’t get me wrong – Season 7 has been building some fascinating lore around Second Dawn, the Anomaly Stones, and humanity’s true path to the stars. But the rotating narratives have overextended The 100’s storytelling capability to an almost laughable degree. It’s only now, at the conclusion of the season’s eleventh episode that it feels as though its main narrative might finally begin. At least most of the main characters are finally in the same place, for once.
But while it’s great that Clarke has finally reached Bardo, the most troubling aspect of Season 7 is that her presence suddenly feels superfluous. She doesn’t have much in the way of a story of her own this season, beyond the fact that once again someone wants to use her for their own nefarious ends. And she’s been onscreen so infrequently that even her moments of actual growth (her decision to take a step back and let Raven talk Echo down from genocide, for example) feel like accidents of timing rather than deliberate choices. Clarke has gone from one of The 100’s most powerful characters to one who barely has any interiority or agency, and the show hasn’t given us any on-screen reason for this decline.
As irritating as Bellamy’s extended absence has been, at least the show made a half-hearted attempt to explain it. Clarke just exists in a strange there/not-there limbo. She deserves better. And The 100 does too. Here’s hoping we haven’t already said “may we meet again” to her character without realizing it, and that she gets the send-off she’s earned after so many seasons of struggle.
