   the shock is clear.   perhaps not to just about anyone—loki can’t be sure who would be able to see it, but he definitely does.   in the widening of mobius’s eyes to the quickening sharpness of his breathing.   his stomach twists into a pulsing knot—oh it’s been… forever since he has last felt anything other than a buzzing void.   he hardly remembers what anxiousness feels like but now he recalls it perfectly.   the tightness in his throat and the wetness in his eyes, the itch on the back of his left palm but also the inside of his right, which can never be satisfied.

  no, loki thinks.   no, don’t look away from me.

  “i know this may sound strange—” loki retorts, cringes inside his head as he purses his lips, swallows down.   how many times has he said that by now?

  “you seem well dressed,” loki notes with a look down at mobius’s clothes, his half-made tie that is, once again, crooked loki feels an urge to reach out, fix it, but he doesn’t.   “may i come in?” loki does not entertain his usual stance.   he does not keep his spine straight or his shoulders back, no—he’s almost slouching in his attempt to lower himself, perhaps, come to mobius’s level, catch a glimpse of those grey eyes.   “have you got time?” again.   how many times will he ask for that?   how many times will he plead for a few minutes?   a few seconds?   a few centuries to make the impossible possible?   no matter.   all that has been done.

  loki purses his lips and takes a step closer, though does not cross the threshold of mobius’s home.   “mobius, please.   i—i can explain.   i swear.” a beat.   loki feels his heart rising to his throat, suffocating him, urging him to choke out all the blood from inside his ancient body. so many weeks trailing by mobius's shadow. all this time and only now, only a few minutes in his immediate vicinity, does life properly pulse inside loki's head.   “trust me.”

The tragedy of Baldr and Hodr

I love the deliberate choice to not show what happens to the bodies when Ravonna kills them with the box thing - i mean, obviously they weren't gonna show it, they wanna keep their pg-13 rating, and it would probably be expensive to make and never live up to imagination, but - it's always something I love to notice and point out in film.

They do the same thing in Silence of the Lambs; Chilton stops Clarice in a doorway on the way to see Hannibal for the first time and shows her a photo of what he'd done to a nurse, Chilton puts so much emphasis on how gruesome it is and how horrifying it is that Hannibal's heart rate never raised as he did it and Clarice has a look of shock and discomfort as she looks at the photo that you as the audience don't need to see it to know how terrible it is and imagine it in your head.

They do that here by only letting the audience hear the screaming and it's sudden halt and watch the way Ravonna's face goes from pained to cold, the way that Brad looks scared the whole time but can't stop looking, the excitement on Miss Minutes' face and the way her eyes keep widening, the tragedy and panic B-15 has.

my general canon regarding the whole tva plot will be a little fluid for now until the season is finished however, i have some thoughts to share on loki being so insistent on finding sylvie. i'm quite loud regarding my hate for them being romantically involved so i shan't repeat myself. here's my explanation on why he's so hung up on her; loki believes what happened is on him. per tom's words, loki thinks what sylvie did is his own mistake. so to use that—we see loki be frantic and guilty that he didn't have time to stop sylvie, to change her mind. but what is done is done and if sylvie is killed, by his reckoning, her blood would be on his own hands. that's it. it's a bundle of guilt, shame and a sense of failure. after all sylvie is a mirror of himself because... well, they are the same person. loki's tired of watching himself die, no matter how disappointed he is in her for doing what she did, and no matter how he reprimands himself for not managing to stop the madness. loki can't help his restlessness.

Spoilers for season 2 episode 1

Thinking about Loki running as best he can with a fresh wound.

The time slipping makes it even worse. It stretches it and looks like the ever-branching timeline

He's running around the past and present TVA, leaving a trail of blood wherever and whenever he goes.

By the time he finally does get to Mobius, there's blood all across his torso.

Mobius immediately running to him, taking off his jacket to try and stop the bleeding.

Loki holds on to Mobius as he's led out of the room, trying to express the urgency of He Who Remains and wondering why no one seems to care about it. Then he releases his grip from Mobius' arm and leaves a bloody handprint, thinking for half a moment that he's hurt him.

That's when he looks down and remembers he was stabbed.

Mobius leads him to an infirmary to patch him up.

"She stabbed me, and then she kicked me through a Time Door "

"Well, I would ask who won, but..."

"....it was a draw."

"....you both stabbed each other and kicked each other through Time Doors simultaneously?"

Now that one week has passed, I’ll post what I thought about the ending of Loki’s series in addition to these. Spoilers under read more:

Pros:

Loki regained the magical look - of a God - and I missed it. I complained about his boring uniform

Loki had a nice magic girl transformation and I wish he was barefoot, what are those shoes?!

And the big ass helmet? A bit too much and Thor’s judging him so hard

At least he's alive and his neck is functioning properly

In marvel you either die or become an eldritch horror

The parallels of Loki saying “for you, for all of us” had me in tears

It mirrored Thor destroying the bridge that meant he wouldn't see Jane again

All the connections to Thor 1♥

Tom and Owen are such great actors

Is Loki the older brother now? That means that Thor can be the (more) apeshit one?

Thor would be so proud of him and I’m sure he feels/knows there’s something going on, a shift in the atmosphere

Loki's peace will end as soon as Thor finds his way there with a bunch of kids and screaming goats, after all, Yggdrasil needs some rain to grow strong ⛈️and after a storm, the sun always shines ☀️ Cons:

He’s all alone there in his throne, like Odin after Frigga’s death and he plainly said he didn’t want to be alone ☹

Loki doesn’t look happy there on his throne and I fear he’ll do the thing where he makes illusions to distract himself and lose himself in it the way Frigga warned in the deleted scene, living in his own world waiting for someone to see through his illusions

Thinking they’re alone: fantasy AU, sex worker!Hob x unspecified-magical-being!Dream. [I have it plotted but it requires smut and will be maybe 10~20k words so I’m putting it off]

Untitled ballet AU: dancer!Hob x choreographer!Dream. [I have no plot, just a few ideas that may become a plot. This was originally listed as a WIP but it got demoted; I think in the end I did want to read this idea more than write it because once I did I was no longer invested in this WIP at all. So if you want an AU with this set up may I recommend bartered tendons; battered rhythm]

Untitled 1: and then they were roommates, except Dream is the ghost that came with the cottage in the middle of nowhere Hob (a regular, mortal, human) suddenly inherited. Hob’s lived on the streets, though -- he’s not about to let the fact that it’s haunted drive him away from a perfectly nice house. [I have some random worldbuilding but the entire note is three short paragraphs]

Untitled 2 (tw: dub con): instead of Dream being the one who feels obligated to provide sex, it’s Hob who thinks like this. Hob who offers the use of his body, feeling he owes it for his immortality. Dream who is being offered something he wants, who has no reason to assume it isn’t willingly offered, and so he takes. Hob would do anything for immortality (if it's set early in their acquaintance), for his friend -- to keep his friend (if it's set in the present) [This is literally all I have written on the note for this idea. I wrote it after reading illuminetic’s arguments re: 1489 Hob’s fuckability. Illuminetic wrote an AMAZING fic about Hob fearing that his stranger wants sexual favors. I also want one in which he actually provides them on the mistaken assumption that Dream requires them]

Catch me I’m falling (below there are COMICS SPOILERS; also, tw: mentions of suicide and depression):

Once upon a dream, an ordinary man faced the fates, the kindly ones, the furies with no weapon but his humanity. And he got them to bend--to be satisfied with Dream of the Endless, and to spare Morpheus. His friend, his love.

This is not that story.

This is the aftermath of that story.

Morpheus, no longer Dream, cast into a silence as fatalistic as that of his glass cage, with no hope of ever escaping it. Caged into a flesh that is human, if not truly mortal. Bereft of his function, his purpose.

Aka the epic Hob trying to support Dream through navigating humanity while still struggling with his depression fic I am in no way shape or form qualified to write. A retired!Dream fic in which being freed of his burden doesn’t solve his problems, but makes them worse. Hob struggles with guilt that he didn’t see what Dream was doing, fear that he’ll try again, anger at Dream for being willing to just abandon him, anger at himself for being angry at Dream. [the sheer amount of research I’d have to do to sill maybe mess it up somehow is dauting. I mean, should I even call it depression? Idk, I’d have to read up on it]
