Ye old Shen twins au where they both become peak lords EXCEPT. Instead of making them twin peak lords or something, we pretend the evidence that the beast peak does likely not exist is lies, and Shen Yuan gets to become peak lord of the beast peak. Why? Because he would LOVE IT there. It's his territory. He gets to be unapologetically nerdy about beasts 24/7 and make it everyone's problem.
As he should.
And bonus! He can snatch LBH at the disciple hole digging. Plot solved! (Assuming the system wouldn't you know. Pull system stuff and force LBH to end up on Qing Jing or some shit.)
And everyone lived happily ever after or some bullshit idk. I reread the 79 extras as well as the TLJ & ZZL ones let me have fluffy AU thoughts goddamnit, my heart has been irreparably damaged-

Day twenty-nine: Meanwhile...
I was originally going to draw the *Black Lodge Laura hand gesture* for this prompt but I figured every Twin Peaks artist has done that (and I’ve done it in the past myself) so instead I decided to draw Coop and Laura hanging out in the Black Lodge. I don’t know what happens with good Coop in the lodge since I refuse to watch the revival but in this universe, they are only here for a short while before Harry comes to their rescue <3
ID: A black and white drawing of Coop and Laura sitting side by side on the floor of the Black Lodge.

I've been really busy with uni and some other things so haven't had a chance to sit down to write up my thoughts on Legion season 3.
I just tried to take a look at the notes I wrote when watching the episodes (oh yeah it's reached note taking levels) and I might need to rewatch the episodes just to understand wtf most of these notes mean. Others just made me giggle (yes, laughing at my own jokes, I know I know...)
A random selection for your enjoyment/confusion -
- Sleeeeves
- baby sweetheart
- Shit Spanish?
- White man
- DEPRESSING
- A WILD JASON MANTZOUKAS APPEARS
- Good people!!!
- Well hello Violet Baudelaire
- Bury the gays intensifies
- Shit movie
- Scientist father, bitch lover
- Cries like he knows something
- Still better than Twin Peaks (this is in reference to the revival, not the OG...should I talk about Twin Peaks?)
There's fifteen pages (!!!) of these. Also, handwriting my notes shortly after sustaining nerve damage in my arm wasn't the best idea, my writing is barely legible at the best of times...struggling to hold a pen surprisingly didn't improve that...

hai i'm curious about what twin peaks is, can you explain it to me (preferably without spoilers) /nf
Oh, is it my birthday?! Yes I can do that!
I will say that I generally do not consider things that happen in the pilot or first episode of a TV series to be "spoilers" so much as "premise". So anything I say here that's direct plot-stuff will only come from the pilot. All right? Let's dig in!
CAPSULE SUMMARY
Twin Peaks is a surreal/magical realism/police procedural/drama/horror/soap opera produced by David Lynch and Mark Frost. It had two seasons of 30 episodes total, a film (Fire Walk With Me), and a third season that came out 25 years later in 2017.
In the pilot episode, a teenaged young woman who everyone in town knows, Laura Palmer, is found murdered. The town reels to cope with her demise and the investigation. A second young woman is found alive and wandering--and she crossed state lines as she wandered. The police call in the FBI, since it's now a multi-state case, and in walks Special Agent Dale Cooper.
As Cooper begins his investigation, he discovers that there's far, far more going on in Twin Peaks than he'd first anticipated.
[NOTE HERE that Twin Peaks covers a LOT of extremely tough and triggering topics over the course of its run. DoesTheDogDie should have a list of all triggers, although those will come with spoilers. The main one to be aware of is that sexual assault, domestic abuse, and rape are discussed. The aftermath of these crimes is depicted. It's 1990, so it's not graphic as in Law & Order: SVU, but it is very much present. Please take care of yourself first!]
NOT-SPOILER REASONS TO WATCH IT
It is a vital historical work of art. Twin Peaks revived the police procedural, popularized soap operas as an art form, launched and relaunched multiple acting careers, introduced surrealism to multiple generations of TV watchers, taught basics of Buddhism, helped spread awareness of the Free Tibet movement, and inspired countless references and imitators. When you watch Twin Peaks, you'll feel like you've seen it before... because you've almost certainly seen something which only exists because of Twin Peaks.
David Lynch is Autism Patient Zero who does not compromise his writing or his vision for NT audiences. He writes dialogue and directs actors in a way that can only be described as "everybody's got the autism accent", and it is a DELIGHT to experience.
The visuals are, often, so strong that you will forget how to breathe. Many of the sets and locations are treated like characters in and of themselves.
The title, Twin Peaks, ties into the show's central themes about identity, which is one of my favorite themes in fiction. What makes you who you are? If there was someone who looked a lot like you, would that compromise who you are? What if they have the same name as you? Are you no longer who you are if you can't remember your past? Is it sometimes a good thing to change your identity? What if everybody thinks you did something unforgivable, but you don't remember it? Does society require all of us to have public faces and private faces? Does anyone really know another person's private face?
When I first watched it, nobody shipped Trucoop (Cooper with the local police sheriff, Harry S. Truman). Now it seems like everybody does and I am not alone, yaaay.
Features one of the very few trans characters in media at the time who was unambiguously positive!
Watch an episode, then pull up the IMDB and see who everyone is. I guarantee that you'll almost always find SOMEone who was famous for other stuff. If you like Star Trek, you'll find that half the damn cast was either on TNG or DS9. It is honestly astounding to me that Jeff Combs wasn't on the series (because, I assume, he was shooting Bride of Re-Animator and other stuff).
THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR
The subtitling in some versions of the show (on DVD specifically) is really bad and unreliable. I found that the Netflix subtitles were OK. If you don't know about OpenSubtitle, I recommend using them to find better subtitles in case you need them.
As stated above, the show gets into really dark themes, and it does not shy away from them when necessary. I feel that these things are addressed in a sensitive way and frequently related to plot, but it hits everyone different.
The music... eh. I like the electro/late 80s theme and the instrumentals that back most of the scenes. But every time someone sings, I get the cringe. I've never been able to get on board with what Lynch thinks good music sounds like. But a lot of people do, so that could just be me.
It takes a lot of work to watch this show. Since so much of it is visual, it is absolutely a show you have to watch with no distractions. I found it to be worth it--past a certain point, I didn't want any distractions. But I get where it's a sacrifice of time and concentration.
If you watch it and enjoy it, you will probably end up with Lynchian Syndrome, where you are compelled to watch every other thing David Lynch has ever made and develop elaborate hypotheses on how they're all in the same universe and suchlike.
So yeah! I hope this gives you an spoiler-free idea of why this show is so special, and if you had any other questions about it, let me know!

i feel like i was not emotionally mature enough to understand the point of the ending to the twin peaks revival when it aired. i still feel pretty frustrated that out of 18 episodes kyle machlachlan only plays cooper for about 3 of them, and i think it drags at times, but now i understand it better. the biggest tragedy of the show is that laura died because no one cared enough to look after her and the only person who ever does is cooper, and that is after she's dead. and now i think about cooper being in the lodge to protect to her, and of course when he gets out of the lodge what cooper would do is try to save her, to change the past- but that isn't possible. you cannot erase trauma. you cannot undo a murder. so of course this is what damns him in the end. he's literally too good for this world and it's that goodness that causes him to change the entire fabric of reality. crazy.

Round 2 of 8, Group 4 of 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda and summaries are under the cut (May include spoilers)
I Love Lucy: 2.01 Job Switching
After Ricky and Fred get upset about the girls' spending, Lucy and Ethel go to work in a candy factory while the boys do the housework.
Twin Peaks: 3.08 The Return, Part 8
Gotta light?
Part 8 is easily the grandest, most horrifying, most expansive, and most beautiful episode of television to ever grace the screens. If David Lynch has spent his career peeling back the surfaces of quaint towns to explore the roots of evil in humankind, this is where he puts all of his cards on the table. Broken into five more or less distinct parts that seem to have nothing to do with each other but really have EVERYTHING to do with each other, Lynch and Frost take us to the very edges of the world: a '40s New Mexico desert is cracked open by an atomic bomb shot greater than that of Oppenheimer from where a great evil is born; a wailing, lonely rock anthem is performed on a roadhouse stage; a doppelganger is shot in the wilderness and revived by soot-covered, shadowy woodsmen that smear his blood over their semi corporeal, tv-static-like bodies; a woman and a giant listen to distorted jazz and watch the White Sands test from some liminal netherworld; a woodsman terrorizes a '50s town and repeats some truly terrifying dialogue while a pair of sweethearts share a chaste kiss. All of this, in black and white and near silence. Part 8's expressionistic, utopian hellscape escapes all genres and narrative confines, even that of the surreal. There is nothing like this episode to haver ever existed before, and it's unlikely there ever will be again.

[a little less lonely with you] ft. miya osamu
wc: 1k
warnings/content: featuring atsumu and his girlfriend, Kaiyo, who is an OC in this
y'all read You Got Me, Senpai! and remember that part when senpai sorta kinda hooks Serina's friend up with her crush/his friend just because he wants to take care of Serina and transitively Serina's friends?
--
It'll be fun, your best friend had promised. Kaiyo had convinced you of your need for a vacation and in a brief lapse of judgment you had agreed.
So at the peak of summer, you find yourself burning to a crisp under the harsh sun of Okinawa as your best friend and her boyfriend, Miya Atsumu wander off to find popsicles to cool off.
To be very clear, you had no problem with Atsumu. You liked that he was so good to your best friend and subsequently, you. He was even good and polite enough to not make you feel like a third wheel this entire trip, offering to carry your bags when he grabbed Kaiyo's, keeping creepy guys away from you on the beach, and allowing you and Kaiyo to walk side-by-side while he trailed behind politely.
But no matter how considerate Atsumu was, it didn't make you feel any less lonely, especially given how long it's been since you last had a boyfriend. On top of that, you currently had the most massive crush on his twin brother. Atsumu had promised you that he tried his best to convince Osamu to take some time off and join, but was unsuccessful. You had told him that you'd be too chicken to make a move anyway. Atsumu had given you a slightly pitiful grin.
So now, as you sit alone on the sandy shores of the Okinawa beach, you allow yourself to wallow in self-pity in the fact that you had agreed to crash what could have been a very romantic vacation for just Atsumu and Kaiyo. Even as they return with the popsicles that momentarily revive you from death by heat, even as the sun sets below the horizon and paints the sky in the most vibrant hues of orange, even as the pleasantly cool night breeze kisses your skin, you remain sluggish and quiet, only perking up enough so as not to ruin the couple's mood.
As you return to the hotel, the two ask you to join them stargazing on the rooftop, but you smile politely and decline
"You really wouldn’t be imposing," Kaiyo assures.
"Yeah, it'd be really fun if you join. The stars are so much brighter out here," Atsumu offers.
You want to cry at how considerate the two are, but you decline, citing exhaustion and retiring alone to your room.
--
The next morning, you meet the couple for breakfast, trying hard to maintain your cheerful demeanor, asking how the night went. They tell you about how wonderful it was, but you know they can see right through your listlessness and forced cheerfulness.
"I'm sorry, you two," you apologize after breakfast. most of which had been spent with you vaguely listening and them holding the conversation. “I haven’t been very fun company, have I?”
Both Kaiyo and Atsumu look at you with wide eyes.
"No, not at all!" Kaiyo reassures you. Atsumu nods.
You shake your head. "I think I'm just going to spend today relaxing at the hotel. I want you two to actually enjoy Okinawa without me following around like a rain cloud."
Kaiyo opens her mouth to protest, but Atsumu puts a hand on her shoulder gently to stop her. He looks at you, “sure you’ll be okay?”
You smile gratefully at him and send them off with wishes for them to enjoy their day. Later that night, Atsumu knocks at your door.
"Hey,” you greet. “What’s up? Where’s Kaiyo?”
"She’s just resting a bit from the day. Can I come in?"
"Sure," you shrug.
He sits on the floor and gestures at the mat across the table from him. You sit as he commands.
"Are you okay?" he asks.
You sigh and apologize again hating that you're making them worry on vacation.
"I am. I'm just feeling a bit lonely looking at you and Kaiyo is all. You two are such a wonderful couple and I wish I had someone to take care of me the way you do for her," you tell him honestly.
Atsumu nods and listens attentively.
"I also wish your brother came, you know?"
Your crush on Osamu is no secret to Kaiyo and Atsumu, but at this, Atsumu's expression morphs to a thoughtful one.
"Just so that I feel a bit less lonely. And to spend some time with him," you continue on.
And for the next 20 minutes, Atsumu listens to you complain, humming in affirmation at the appropriate times, but keeping that pensive expression on.
"Sorry for babbling on. It was really sweet of you to check up on me, but I promise I'm having the most fun I can be having because you and Kaiyo are so good to me."
Atsumu doesn’t say much but nods and pats you on the shoulder.
It's not until the next day that you find out why he was being so uncharacteristically quiet. You're prepared to meet the two for breakfast again when another knock rings at your door. Opening it expecting Atsumu, you're met with the face of a different Miya. Osamu is standing there, grinning silly and dressed in a Hawaiian patterned shirt.
"Hey," he greets casually. "Care to join me for breakfast?" he holds out his crooked elbow for you to grab onto.
You’re staring at him, ready to ask him what he’s doing here when you see a flash of movement out of the corner of your eyes. You see Atsumu hiding around a corner and giving you a thumbs up and Kaiyo beaming at you.
For a second, you feel like crying because what did you do in your previous life to deserve such good friends, but for now, Osamu's waiting so you slip your arm through his and allow him to whisk you away to finally start your vacation.
--
Around the corner, Atsumu is grinning ear to ear at his triumph. He's watching your and his brother's retreating silhouettes fondly when he feels his girlfriend slip her fingers into his. He looks down at her, still unable to wipe the proud smile off his face. It widens when she reaches up to press a sweet, tender kiss to his lips.
"What was that for?" he whispers, breathless.
"Just for taking care of my best friend," she responds, as she leads them to their own breakfast plans, connected hands swinging in wide, happy arcs.

16,1,13 simm mas ?
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
First off, he's an emoji freak. He canonically does 😀and 😠 emojis in UK cabinet. He probably pioneered emoji poetry. He uses all of them all the time. And his unronic fave is 😈. He also obviously keeps spamming Ten with 🍆s and 🍑s
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
Not sure if least favourite ship is the best name here, but I do get a bit ruffled by the selfcest thing with Missy? Like, not so much not enjoying it, Simm and Gomez have wonderful chemistry, and I couldn't care less about the ethical iffiness, but it's more the case that once you dig beneath the campy fun, it's glaring that the point being made is Saxon being a detestable narcissistic devil on Missy's shoulder to be put down in favour of pure, compassionate, good love of the Doctor. I see what's been done there, it was done well, I don't like it.
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
K, I left that for the last, because the answer may get longish, and will probably be more of a character analysis than a “why I like this guy” thing. The point is, I was obsessed with hero and shadow, two sides of the same coin, equals who understand each other like no one else yet stand on opposite sides, marriage of heaven and hell dynamic long before I ran into thoschei. Like, looong. So when I watched Terror of the Autons for the first time, it was a matter of Three’s and Delgado’s dynamic falling into a slot that was already waiting for them, and I loved it immediately! I’ll add that I’m fairly sure BBC knew exactly what archetype they are going for, because they were toying with it throughout season 6, and made an excellent choice of casting Delgado (who was real life friends with Pertwee!) when they finally decided to go for it fully. And while I adore all of classic who versions of thoschei, I still think the writing that happened with Simm and tensimm is just absolute peak (I sometimes get the impression I’m very much in the minority here, most tensimm praise I see comes from people for whom they were the first taste, please let me know if that’s not the case)! Like a lot of RTD’s decisions for the revival, I feel he really scratched down to the bottom of the dynamic and characters and retold it in a new way. To start, there’s the perfect timing for reintroduction of the Master: what if, after all the moping over the Doctor being the last of the Time Lords, and then losing Rose, it turned out there was in fact another Time Lord who survived, and it was the exact one that’s both worst for the universe, and guiltily best for the Doctor? Honestly, just this bit is too delicious! Then there’s all the little design choices done with the Master. Casting John Simm, apart from the basic level of his acting skills, was just excellent: there’s all the fun you can have with his physical similarity to Tony Blair, the way his features are somehow both sharp and soft, the way between brown hair and eyes he and Tennant might just pass for siblings, thus visually going for the “evil twin” vibe, his mesmerizingly pleasant voice… I think it’s really telling that they thought long and hard on whether or not to give the Master the signature beard, and finally decided not to: again, just showing the focus was not on the superficial nostalgic recollections, only actually thinking “what would the Master make themselves look like if they were an early 21st century politician?” and deciding they’d go for a more fresh-faced explicitly young looking attractive man people would enjoy seeing on the news (sth sth postpolitics). Then there are all the little ways in which Saxon is the shadow to Ten specifically: his violence towards women being the flip side to the explicitly romantic relationships the Doctor’s had in the revival (I think RTD explicitly said “and he’s even got a blonde!”), his torture of Jack being the extreme of Ten’s gut disgust, his grotesque survival as an electroskeleton being the parody of Ten’s “I don’t want to go”… I sometimes say that tensimm is a symphony, and this is what I mean: it’s a the recurring melodies, and the counterpoints!
Generally, again, I’m not sure if this is what “what do you like about a character” means, but I just think Simm!Master was done with just the perfect balance of introspection without navel gazing, tragedy without angst, message without moralising, depth without turning to the audience to explain what the depth is… I’ve noticed John Simm keeps celebrating DW day on IG with Metallica’s Master of Puppets, which is just. Yeah, if that was the mindset with which he was approaching the character, then it was the perfect choice. Are the lyrics much more than very well spoken “I am very evil”? No. But the music. The music, the guitar solo conveying longing and uncertainty, and sorrow, and determination in a way language just can’t.
TLDR: the archetype work done with Simm!Master is something I have been waiting for since I was a teenager, and the wait was soooo worth it!
