Crowdfunding Skycircles
Tumblr media
Skycircl.es is a project of John Wiseman, a furloughed Disney Imagineer who became obsessed with mysterious overhead aircraft and decided to monitor them, discovering (among other things) a massive, covert FBI aerial surveillance program.
The project uses a cheap software-defined radio and a low-cost antenna to intercept transponder signals from overhead aircraft and plot their movements on maps in realtime, also storing longitudinal flight data.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1sowJrQQfgxnLCErb-CvUV8VGXdtca6SWYWWLRPZgaHI/edit#slide=id.ga3a076b34_0_12
But the other half of the project is using open sources  and freedom of information requests to pierce the veils of secrecy surrounding the front companies that many of these aircraft are registered to.
The program has revealed just how busy our skies are with invisible, unregarded surveillance aircraft. This image is not a lengthy time-lapse: it is a snapshot of a single moment in the LA skies.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1sowJrQQfgxnLCErb-CvUV8VGXdtca6SWYWWLRPZgaHI/edit#slide=id.g5086fd3e26_0_79
Tumblr media
Wiseman has collected BILLIONS of transponder pings from surveillance aircraft. New ones are tweeted in realtime by Advisory Circular, a network of Twitter bots that report on the skies over many major cities.
https://twitter.com/i/lists/1263724487435890688
The project is all free/open source, and Wiseman has run it for years as a self-funded hobby. But since being furloughed, this has become harder to sustain. Now one of his laptops has died and he doesn't have the cash to replace it.
He's soliciting donations to keep the project going. He's also in search of other coders to contribute, and free hosting for some of the project.
https://skycircl.es/donate-nerd-mode/
If he gets enough money, he's planned to give every spy aircraft in America its own social media account that tracks its movements in realtime; a mobile app that tells you which aircraft are overhead right now, and planet-scale analysis of spy planes.
Our own household finances are under severe strain, but I just donated to him. He's an example of how tech can serve as a force-multiplier for people resisting authoritarianism and illegitimate exercises of power.
A self-funded hobbyist is fighting the entire surveillance-industrial complex...and winning!

GameDev Diary #04: Replicating GameBoy Palettes and more.
Remember how you played Pokemon Red and Blue in the Gameboy Color and  it switched from the default palette to a creepy one on Lavender Town? Well let’s do that.
Tumblr media
If you have been following this GameDev diary, you probably noticed how I used a totally grayscale palette for the sprites, this might have been seen as a lazy approach (an you would be right), but I decided to be smart instead of locking myself in a replica of the greens from the original gameboy.
One of the main reasons was that I wanted to convey the passing of time as you advanced in the game, so a little spoiler of the story: Tomas arrives to his home town early morning and find it completely empty, he founds the mayor in the main plaza being attacked by some pirates. After liberating him, you learn that the whole town has been kidnaped and the pirates are moving all the 42 residents to their pirate island, including your family. So you naturally go in pursue of them in 6 different scenarios. Each of them with it’s own palette that reflects both the biome and the time of the day. So how do we go from this?:
Tumblr media
To this:
Tumblr media
The answer is ColorRamps/GradientMaps: First a little bit of color theory about gameboy palettes, this guy explains Hue Shifting and Luminance both essential to make a palette makes sense and still can pop up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdXpUIATzO0
Ok, I have selected a palette, How do I implement it on my game?, well to implement it to a sprite, just follow this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7VljTl4I3w The only problem is that the tutorial implements it on a single sprite, it doesn’t do full screen shading. For that you will need to change the shader code to:
shader_type canvas_item; render_mode unshaded; uniform sampler2D gradient: hint_black; void fragment(){    // Grabs the texture from the screen behind, not from the sprite    vec4 input_color = texture(SCREEN_TEXTURE, SCREEN_UV);       float grayscale_value = dot(input_color.rgb, vec3(0.299,0.587,0.114));    vec3 sampled_color = texture(gradient, vec2(grayscale_value, 0.0)).rgb;    // I don't do mixing because i want the exact palette to be used    COLOR.rgb = sampled_color;    COLOR.a = input_color.a; }
And apply the shader to a ColorRect that is above the whole screen (if you need help ping me at twitter: @Levhita)
Tumblr media
Now I have several Gradient Maps that allows me to change palettes: Really Really Late at Night
Tumblr media
Snow mountain at Noon
Tumblr media
Afternoon at the Desert
Tumblr media
I have no idea...
Tumblr media
Classic GameBoy Look and probably in a forest.
Tumblr media
And of course, Lavender Town
Tumblr media
I found it better to edit the gradients directly on Godot as I can have realtime feedback, instead of following the Krita > Godot path as in the tutorial.
Tumblr media
Sadly I overwritten several times the shared resources so I keep my references in a resource folder and constantly copy/paste and make sure to click make unique. I also prefer to save the Material resource as .tres because it’s a plain-text format that can be easily inspected on source versioning software and easily shared... speaking of which, you can get all my gradients from here!!!, what a wonderful thing Git is. https://github.com/levhita/42monos/tree/main/World/Gradient

Dank Tomb
Tumblr media
This game has to be one of the most polished and impressive creations in the history of PICO-8.
Jakub Wasilewski (AKA krajzeg) developed an engine of sorts for the lighting effects in the game, that was documented in real time in social media, as progress was made. It was very insightful to watch at the time.
Since the developer put the game in a pay-what-you-want model through itch.io, we will not embed it here, but let you choose to name your price if you want to play it and support him. Note that the full download has additional goodies like a map, journal, etc.
Tumblr media
If the incredible lighting effects weren’t enough, the handling of the pico-8 palette will convince you this is on another level. But it’s not all looks: The game has some very interesting puzzles, and a save game feature reminiscent of older console game methods.
For all of this, Dank Tomb gained a spot in the PICO-8 Hall of Fame. Be sure to check out the rest of Jakub’s carts and games, for there is something to learn and admire in them as well!
If you are interested in the history of this game’s evolution, it is all well documented in krajzeg’s twitter timeline, starting in Jan 2017.
Jakub also wrote a very insightful article over at hackernoon.com split into 4 parts, about the realtime lighting effects and other game design considerations for Dank Tomb, which we cannot recommend enough.

Job Search Technology - What You Should Know
Technology is embedded inside our daily lives and should really be an essential part of your job search! The full time spent learning how to utilize technology can lead to powerful knowledge that can help you feel more in control of the resources available on the Internet. Simple changes in your utilization of search engines like Google, corporate websites, and alerts by email may make trying to find jobs a great deal more streamlined and effective.
Company-specific Websites
A corporate website could be a tremendously valuable resource for your job search in many ways. You'll have the ability to conduct traditional research to assist you to discover more about the business when finding your way through the interview.
Another by-product of this is that you can often uncover the name and title of the in-patient with whom you will undoubtedly be interviewing with you are able to help when tailoring your cover letter too.
Additionally, company websites can be an excellent way to obtain job postings. Most companies will have a section of their website specialized in "Employment" or "Jobs." However, even when no obvious links are listed, you can use search engines like Google to uncover openings with companies of interest to you. Use the format below with search engines such as for instance Google, Yahoo, or Bing to expand your search.
• Company name.com jobs  • company name.com careers
If uncertain about a specific company, you can even search by job title:
• (job title): jobs  • Property manager: jobs
To limit your search to a specific geographic region, simply add in the positioning:
• (job title): jobs Chicago  • Architect: jobs Chicago
If your initial search does not supply you with the results you were searching for, there mightn't be any job openings currently or the company might be using a job site like Indeed or Simply Hired to handle their job posting needs. If everything else fails, you are able to obtain contact information through the corporate website and call the HR department to have the newest job openings.
Job Search Sites
Checking every job posting site can become really time-consuming. Make the most of available job search technology using the major search engines to find out the open positions for you personally on specific job sites along with increased obscure listings posted on social networking sites like Twitter. Additionally, focusing your job search to a certain position or skill set, and you will likely unearth listings that might be missed by your competition.
The search terms you select will determine what results you obtain, for example:
• Position title apply  • nurse administrator apply
Efficient Searches
Search engines are only in a position to be just like the ways in which we utilize them. To boost the potency of your search, you might need to test different techniques and strategies.
Some basic tips to boost your searches contain:
• Vary the search terms you select by testing both singular and plural terms (e.g., job and jobs) or using acronyms in addition to spelling out company names.  • Switch the order of terms. Try Director of Sales or Sales Director.  • Narrow down your search by using quotation marks so as to include only exact phrases, for instance, "executive-level chef."
Tumblr media
Search engines often add a "similar" designation after every entry returned in your search. Once you click through that link you might get additional listings that'll often be "similar" to your search terms, thereby widening your search results with hardly any effort from you.
Once you land your interview, you can use web-based maps which could help you discover the location of the business in case you haven't been there.
Email Alerts
One sign of a productive job search is that your inbox will probably be full! Now you may think that this can be a nice problem to own, however, an overflowing email inbox could cause you headaches too. Imagine overlooking the email that's asking one to schedule a preliminary phone or Skype meeting. Ouch!
Each email system differs, but most have options to flag or filter email about specified topics or from specific sources into a separate file. It is simple to develop a folder labeled "Jobs" and develop a filter to automatically transfer any correspondence from job search sites or particular companies into that folder.
Although this extra step does add a specific amount of time, it always pays off by keeping you together with valuable job search messages.
Job Search Services
Something that people offer our clients is a tailored page on our site they can access whenever you want to help keep tabs on what NMK have been posted to the major job search sites as well as niche job posting boards.
This is a realtime saver and is obviously current without getting bombarded by emails from the job boards. For those of you who've seen this, guess what happens I'm talking about?
So by utilizing job search technology to streamline your job search, you are able to effectively manage your time during a job search which could also give you job leads which your competition hasn't were able to find.
Having the capacity to locate those hidden jobs gives you real power in the present job market. Integrate job search technology to your job search toolbox today and make the most of the information at your fingertips to make your job search less frustrating and hopefully pay off faster by landing a job sooner!

About what went on in the Darkplaces engine community, how this affects VoreTournament
Found some energy lying around to talk about this one here: The whole thing was a big drain on me in the moment, to the point where I had issues sleeping the night it took place. As it's related to a landmark project many people follow me for, it's fair I post about it here as well... by which I mean Vore Tournament which through Xonotic uses the Darkplaces engine to run. Later this month I was planning to announce on Patreon a change to the lighting system I planned to develop for Xonotic and in consequence my Vore Tournament game. It's something I've been hoping to do for a while now: The game presently uses boring old pre-compiled lightmaps for world lighting, no shadows and other fancy effects. My goal was to change this using a trick I had come up with, essentially implementing emission maps from glow textures using the existing point light system, no need to dive into technical details here. This required a change to Darkplaces engine to do properly: Inspired by videos on realtime raytracing I recently saw, I visited its development Discord server and brought up my idea, after which I started testing some existing features with other DP members and developers. So what happened. To keep it short and mention the same thing I said to the Xonotic crew: In the middle of a test I was conducting in-game, I was banned out of the blue from the entire Darkplaces community in a matter of seconds, by one of the developers with whom 5 minutes prior I was just talking to about my code. The reason? Something I said on a social media platform years ago offended them, that's pretty much it. After 15 years of being in that community (if you count their Freenode IRC room), I'm banned out of the blue purely out of cancel culture over opinions I had, which I never brought up or imagined bringing up in that community to whom I was always professional. I was given no prior warning, no way to get back to the team afterward, not even told exactly what it was they saw, asked why I said whatever I might have given I even remember every past argument, not even asked if it's accurate or could have been some fakery from a 4chan / Kiwifarms type website looking to troll people. As far as the others are aware to this day, I simply disappeared in the middle of working with them for unknown reasons... other people there to whom I spoke privately the next day expressed the same confusion as myself. I'm not going to make further comments on what I think of this insanity, I believe it's pretty obvious: We live in fucking glorious times, that is all. Also not gonna dive into what they freaked out about as I do NOT want more drama nor new issues on top of what already happened, especially with places like Patreon or Furaffinity losing their administrative minds and becoming as savage and intolerant. I don't even see why it should be relevant, even if I supported murder (which I DON'T) pulling this sort of stuff on people out of nowhere is more than uncalled for. It is however official that if you ever had an opinion people don't like on a sensitive subject at any point in your life, you can now expect cancer culture to follow you everywhere you go and get you banned out of the blue by those you thought are your colleagues. Now including FOSS projects... a warning to other developers here to be careful, for your team may ban you from working on your own code if someone doesn't like what you said on Facebook or Twitter last decade, this is where we are guys it's 2021. Luckily this was just the engine team: I spoke about it with the Xonotic community and folks are a lot more cool there, no issues with them and they have my love. Theoretically this shouldn't hamper me too much in working on Vore Tournament, just that if I need any engine changes for it I'm out of luck as I can't even reach their developers any more. On top of that I'm honestly demotivated from working on anything Xonotic related now, after getting struck with such garbage out of nowhere just as I was preparing to try and do more for it again: I apologize to everyone expecting more VT updates, please understand it causes a sour taste to even think about the project for now. If and when the situation cools down in some form, I shall feel comfortable picking up my work there again. I honestly wish Xonotic could switch engines: There's an ongoing plan to move to the newer Daemon engine (used by the game Unvanquished) but just like the weapon / ammo refractor it's taking more than a decade to complete. Both are Quake 1 / 2 / 3 based though, that's pretty ancient: We should at least be using the newer idTech 4 as a base, if not Tesseract (RedEclipse engine) or Godot which is basically the Unity / Unreal Engine of open-source. This would of course require porting the assets and rewriting the game code from scratch, so yeah... don't see that happening I'm afraid. I have been working on a lot of stuff none the less: Blender, TheDarkMod, now even 0ad, etc. Just little steps as usual so not much to show: Doubt anyone would be interested to see how today I added a little area to a map in one game, redid this one material for that one Blender scene, so on and so forth. I know updates are slow for this reason as I'm not motivated to write about what I'm doing until it's actually something worth showing: Thank you for your continued support and hopefully I'll have more to show for in the coming month.

Apple have put a lot of effort into making realtime face recognition work with the iPhone X. You can't fool an iPhone X with a photo or even a simple mask: it does depth mapping to ensure your eyes are in the right place (and can tell whether they're open or closed) and recognize your face from underlying bone structure through makeup and bruises. It's running continuously, checking pretty much as often as every time you'd hit the home button on a more traditional smartphone UI, and it can see where your eyeballs are pointing. The purpose of this is to make it difficult for a phone thief to get anywhere if they steal your device. but it means your phone can monitor your facial expressions and correlate it against app usage. Your phone will be aware of precisely what you like to look at on its screen. With addiction-seeking deep learning and neural-network generated images, it is in principle possible to feed you an endlessly escallating payload of arousal-maximizing inputs. It might be Facebook or Twitter messages optimized to produce outrage, or it could be porn generated by AI to appeal to kinks you aren't even consciously aware of. But either way, the app now owns your central nervous system—and you will be monetized.

Closing Music Heritage UK
Tumblr media
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the end of Music Heritage UK.
Following a long period of consideration we, the Trustees, have decided that now is the right time to call it a day. Owing to personal and professional reasons, founder and chief executive James Ketchell can no longer devote as much time as he’d like to promoting, protecting and preserving music heritage.
Our initial idea was borne out of a belief that as a country we weren’t doing enough to celebrate our proud popular music history. We thought we could use our iconic history to encourage music tourism, support live music venues, and ensure that our memorabilia and archival history was preserved for future generations to come. In hindsight this was a huge and broad ask and although we’ve had a small impact in all of those respective areas we were unable to make it work financially and take it beyond a volunteer-led hobby. Since our inception we’ve seen the launch of a number of other organisations with deeper pockets, more time to devote and different business models who are all doing great work in their respective fields. Our work helped to set the scene for all of those, so we can leave knowing that live music, music tourism and music history are in a much healthier position than when we started. Over the seven years we’ve been operating we’ve achieved some great things. This includes writing the country’s first, and to date only, exploration of the potential for music tourism, launched a successful podcast series on music history, helped the George Tavern in East London campaign to stay open, and produced great interactive maps and timelines on some of the country’s iconic acts and blogged with sometimes furious purpose. And we’re rightly proud of all of it all. Thanks There are numerous people who have helped Music Heritage UK over the years, none more so than you the supporters. Thanks to everyone who liked, tweeted and followed us. This, of course, extends to the individual donors who financially supported us. Thank you. Firstly, we’d like to thank the various Trustees of Music Heritage UK.  Chairmen Chris Basiurski and Panikos Efthimiou, members Andy Grazebrook, Jamie Credland and Martin Bowman. Thanks for your support and guidance over the years. A special mention to our ambassadors, Pete Cafferkey, Lee Sargent and Sheryl Davis who provided much needed advice, support and contacts. A special thank you to Sheryl who is doing so much great work in the States to preserve music history. Thanks to our website developer Digitalime who provided us with two affordable websites, Sutori who helped us with our interactive music timelines and recreating the Stones in the Park gig in realtime on Twitter, designer and photographer Gareth Logue for his work on a number of projects and cartoonist George Leigh who drew a great picture for us to use. Also a special shout out to those who volunteered their time for us over the years including Steve Heath who worked with us with our map on Bob Dylan in the UK. We’d also like to thank Charlie from Where is my Mind? quiz and Ronan from Ringo: Music Bingo who ran music events/quizzes for us (see both of them at End of the Road this year). A special thank you to Danny Pockets who is sadly no longer with us. I’m truly sorry we were never able to get our exhibition idea off the ground. We’d like to thank all the people and places that inspired our podcasts and made them great. This includes Hawkwind, The Zombies, founder of the Isle of Wight Festivals Ray Foulk, artist and David Bowie’s mate George Underwood, the Royal Albert Hall, The Roundhouse and the yank with an in-depth knowledge of Britpop, Alison. We’d like to thank UK Music for working with us to publish Imagine, to date the only report into the potential for music tourism. Thanks to Jo Dipple, Tom Keil and Jon Todd for believing in us and making it happen. To the inspirational people we worked with over the years notably Pauline Forster at the George Tavern whose  never-ending energy, passion and love for her venue should be an inspiration for all. Henry Scott-Irvine and Phil Ryan from the Save Denmark Street campaign who fought for what they believed was right in the face of a multi-million pound central London development and the associated politics, spin and untruths that come with it. And Bruce Cherry who passionately believes in the potential for music tourism. Our money We have decided to distribute our remaining funds to two projects which we’ve supported online over the years. We have split what remains between the recently reopened Eel Pie Island Museum and Coventry’s Music Museum. These are two awesome DIY music projects led by two truly inspirational curators, Michele Whitby and Pete Chambers who will make great use of our money. We’re delighted that our donations will continue to support music history and hopefully help these two initiatives to survive and prosper. We’ve sent them £744 each, which although not life changing, will go some way to helping them keep on keepin’ on. Please do pay them a visit if you can. The future We’ll keep the website up and running for a few more months. Our podcasts will still be on iTunes for the time being but will eventually have to be pulled. They will be archived on Mixcloud, however. For those with a particular interest in music tourism, the Music Tourism Association has launched - with Bruce Cherry at the helm - and will continue to work within and outside the industry to generate more support in this area. James will continue to explore his interest in music history but in a different and a more flexible way. Stay tuned for more from him in the near future!
The music Finally. The Music. Because that’s always been what this has supposed to be about. Our heartfelt thanks to the great bands and artists who inspired us over the years. Without you Music Heritage UK was nothing. Love, Peace and Rock and Roll. X

If you're a penetration tester, there are numerous tools you can use to help you accomplish your goals.
From scanning to post-exploitation, here are ten tools you must know if you are into cybersecurity.
What is Cybersecurity?
Being a cybersecurity engineer means being responsible for an entire network. This network includes computers, routers, mobile phones, and everything that connects to the internet.
Thanks to the rise of Internet of Things, we see more and more devices connecting to the internet every day. Services like Shodan are proof of how dangerous it is to have an internet-connected device without adequate security.
We cannot rely on Antivirus software either, given how sophisticated today’s hackers are. Besides, most attacks nowadays use social engineering as their entry point. This makes it even harder for cybersecurity professionals to detect and mitigate these attacks.
Covid-19 has become another major catalyst for growing cyber-attacks. Employees working from home don’t have access to the same enterprise-level security architectures in their workplace.
The growing number of cyber-attacks have also increased the demand for cybersecurity professionals around the world. Due to this increasing demand, Cybersecurity has been attracting a lot of experts as well as beginners.
For those of you who are new to Cybersecurity, hacking is not as cool as it looks on TV. And there is a high probability that you will end up in jail.
However, being a penetration tester or a white hat hacker is different – and beneficial – since you will be playing with the same tools black hat hackers (the bad ones) play with. Except for this time, it's legal, and your goal is to help companies discover security vulnerabilities so they can fix them.
You can learn more about the types of hackers here.
It is always hard to find the right tools to get started in any domain, especially if you are a beginner. So here are 10 tools to help you get started as a cybersecurity engineer.
Top Tools for Beginner Cybersecurity Engineers
Wireshark
Tumblr media
Having a solid foundation in Networking is essential to becoming a good penetration tester. After all, the internet is a bunch of complex networks that communicate with each other. If you are new to Networking, I recommend this playlist by Network Direction.
Wireshark is the world’s best network analyzer tool. It is an open-source software that enables you to inspect real-time data on a live network.
Wireshark can dissect packets of data into frames and segments giving you detailed information about the bits and bytes in a packet.
Wireshark supports all major network protocols and media types. Wireshark can also be used as a packet sniffing tool if you are in a public network. Wireshark will have access to the entire network connected to a router.
Tumblr media
Wireshark UI
Sites like Facebook and Twitter are encrypted now, thanks to HTTPS. This means that even though you can capture packets from a victim computer in transit to Facebook, those packets will be encrypted.
Still, being able to capture data packets in realtime is an important utility for a penetration tester.
Nmap
Tumblr media
Nmap is the first tool you will come across when you begin your career as a penetration tester. It is a fantastic network scanning tool that can give you detailed information about a target. This includes open ports, services, and the operating system running on the victim’s computer.
Nmap is popular among penetration testers for many reasons. It is simple, flexible, and extensible. It offers a simple command-line interface where you can add a few flags to choose different types of scans.
Nmap also offers simple ping scans all the way up to aggressive scans that provide detailed ports and service information.
Tumblr media
Zenmap UI
Nmap also provides a GUI tool called Zenmap with added utilities. You can build visual network maps and choose scans via dropdowns. Zenmap is a great place to start playing with Nmap commands if you are a beginner.
I recently wrote a detailed article on Nmap that you can read here.
Ncat (Previously Netcat)
Tumblr media
Netcat is often referred to as the swiss-army knife in networking.
Netcat is a simple but powerful tool that can view and record data on a TCP or UDP network connections. Netcat functions as a back-end listener that allows for port scanning and port listening.
You can also transfer files through Netcat or use it as a backdoor to your victim machine. This makes is a popular post-exploitation tool to establish connections after successful attacks. Netcat is also extensible given its capability to add scripting for larger or redundant tasks.
In spite of the popularity of Netcat, it was not maintained actively by its community. The Nmap team built an updated version of Netcat called Ncat with features including support for SSL, IPv6, SOCKS, and HTTP proxies.
Metasploit
Tumblr media
If there is one tool I love, its Metasploit. Metasploit is not just a tool, but a complete framework that you can use during an entire penetration testing lifecycle.
Metasploit contains exploits for most of the vulnerabilities in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposure database. Using metasploit, you can send payloads to a target system and gain access to it though a command line interface.
Metasploit is very advanced with the ability to do tasks such as port scanning, enumeration, and scripting in addition to exploitation. You can also build and test your own exploit using the Ruby programming language.
Metasploit was open-source until 2009 after which Rapid7 acquired the product. You can still access free community edition and use all its features.
Tumblr media
Armitage UI
Metasploit used to be a purely command-line tool. A Java-based GUI called Armitage was released in 2013.
Nikto
Tumblr media
Nikto is an open-source tool that is capable of performing extensive web server scans. Nikto can help you scan for harmful files, misconfigurations, outdated software installations, and so on.
It also checks for the presence of multiple index files, HTTP server configurations, and the installed web server software.
Nikto is the preferred tool for general web server security audits. Nikto is fast, but not quiet. You can scan a large web server pretty quickly but intrusion detection systems will easily pick up these scans. However, there is support for anti-IDS plugins in case you want to perform stealthy scans.
Burp Suite
Tumblr media
When it comes to pen-testing web applications, Burpsuite has all the answers for you. BurpSuite aims to be an all in one set of tools for a variety of web application pen-testing use cases. It is also a popular tool among professional web app security researchers and bug bounty hunters.
Burpsuite’s tools work together to support the entire web application testing lifecycle. From scanning to exploitation, Burpsuite offers all the tools you need for breaking into web applications.
One of Burp Suite’s main features is its ability to intercept HTTP requests. HTTP requests usually go from your browser to a web server and then the web server sends a response back. With Burp Suite, you can perform Man-in-the-middle operations to manipulate the request and response.
Burpusite has an excellent user interface. Burpsuite also has tools for automation to make your work faster and more efficient.
In addition to its default features, Burpsuite is extensible by adding plugins called BApps.
John the Ripper
Tumblr media
Passwords are still the de-facto standard of authentication in most systems. Even if you successfully get into a server or a database you will have to decrypt the password to gain privilege escalation.
John the Ripper is a simple tool used for cracking passwords. It is a super-fast password cracker with support for custom wordlists. It can run against most types of encryption methods like MD5 and SHA.
Aircrack-ng
Tumblr media
Aircrack-ng is a set of tools that help you to work with wireless networks. Aircrack comprises of tools that can capture wireless networks, crack WPA keys, inject packets, and so on.
A few tools in the Aircrack-ng suite include:
airodump — Captures packets
aireplay — Packet injection
aircrack — Crack WEP and WPA
airdecap — Decrypt WEP and WPA
Aircrack contains excellent algorithms for cracking WiFi passwords and to capture wireless traffic. It can also decrypt encrypted packets, making it a complete suite of tools for wireless penetration testing.
In short, you can use Aircrack for monitoring, attacking, and debugging all types of wireless networks.
Nessus
Tumblr media
Nessus is a popular enterprise vulnerability scanner. Nessus is built to be a complete vulnerability analysis and reporting tool. While you can scan and find ports or services using Nmap, Nessus will tell you the list of vulnerabilities and how they can be exploited.
Nessus has an excellent user interface, tens of thousands of plugins, and supports embedded scripting. It is often favored by enterprises since it helps companies audit for various compliances like PCI and HIPPA. Nessus will also tell you the severity of the vulnerabilities so that you can focus on those threats accordingly.
Tumblr media
Nessus UI
Nessus is not a free software, but offers a limited free home edition. Nessus has an open-source alternative called Open-Vas that offers similar features.
Snort
Tumblr media
Snort is an open-source software for detecting and preventing intrusions in a network. It can perform live traffic analysis and log incoming packets to detect port scans, worms, and other suspicious behavior.
Snort is used for defense compared to most of the other tools in this list. However, snort helps you understand the attacker’s methods by logging their activity. You can also build DNS sinkholes to redirect attacker traffic while finding attack vectors through Snort.
Snort also has a web-based GUI called BASE (Basic Analysis and Security Engine). BASE provides a web front-end to query and analyze the alerts coming from Snort.
Conclusion
In today’s networked world, everyone from government agencies to banks stores critical information in the cloud. Cyber-attacks even have the potential to cripple an entire nation. Hence, protecting these networks is not a choice, but an absolute necessity.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced cybersecurity engineer, you will find these ten tools invaluable. Good luck on your journey to becoming a successful penetration tester. Learn more tools from the Security Tools Directory.

The leather coat has made considerable progress in the previous 70 years. When a sign of insubordination, this Jammin most loved has earned itself a spot as perhaps the coolest bit of outerwear. Thinking back to the 1950s it was put on the map by any semblance of Marlon Brando and James Dean, yet today you don't should be a chain-smoking biker with a Brylcreem'd pompadour so as to pull one-off. All things considered, don't think for a second the leather coat has lost any of its disposition throughout the years. It may flaunt similar level flexibility as a decent pair of pants or all around made boots, yet this cowhide exemplary is still boss totally. What is the best Leather Jackets? Mashup Web Top 5
Mashup is to use other website’s open API to put some of those website functions into one website. For example, we can put google map into a company website for customers to find the nearest company’s store or we can have a blog with Youtube video and Flickr photos in it. Such combination is the mashup.
Mashup web List:
Trendsmap
https://www.trendsmap.com/
This is a realtime local Twitter trend map. People can directly see what is the trend in local area and find the news.
Criminal watch dog
http://www.criminalwatchdog.com/neighborhood-watch/
This is a website that people can find the nearest sex offenders in their neighborhood and then they can protect themselves better.
Coffee seeker
http://coffeeseeker.com/
This is a website that people can find the nearest coffee shop.
Where is this?
http://www.where-is-this.com/
This is a website that people can upload a picture and find out the place which the photo was taken.
Fast food map
http://www.fastfoodmaps.com/
This is the website that people can find the nearest fast food shop.
Top 3.
3. Where is this?
http://www.where-is-this.com/
2. Trendsmap
https://www.trendsmap.com/
1.  Criminal watch dog
http://www.criminalwatchdog.com/neighborhood-watch/
I would use Trendsmap to find the local hot news in Twitter that happened near my home and use Criminal watch dog to find the nearest sex offender and avoid that area. I would also use Where is This? when I want to know a photo’s location.
