Compilation of disorganized facts (and derived headcanons) about The Henry Stickmin Collection's "narrator"

First thing’s first, since I typed more than I should’ve for a single bullet point.

Who is this “narrator” anyways?

In this post I’m talking about the implied source of the fail screens, bios, and certain other interactions in the game (which I’ll get into as we go. It’s implied that this character is the same across these different sources of meta interactions.

It is possible that this character is a self-insert of PuffballsUnited, but for the sake of this post we'll assume that this isn't Actually Puff. I feel weird tying my blorbo detail-plucking thoughts to an actual person and don’t want anyone making assumptions about Puff based on anything listed here, plus certain things may be added, exaggerated, omitted, etc. to the character for comedic effect in a way that further delineates the two. (tl;dr narrator ≠ author)

The wiki (derogatory) notes a theory that this character could be Wilson Stone. Granted, it’s not an entirely groundless theory: there is no message on the fail screen for D.E.B., which could be seen as a result of Wilson dying. I disagree with this for a couple of reasons: Wilson is referred to in the third person in his bio, the narrator makes a disdainful comment about the CCC having a surplus of nukes in CtM (there’s little reason for Wilson to be opposed to nukes but not a dark energy bomb), and Wilson’s voice is different from the narrator’s (I’ll get to that later).

The general fandom consensus that I've seen uses "the narrator", but this character/being/whatever isn't known by any name officially, nor any pronouns. For simplicity's sake, I'll refer to this character as "the meta" or “the meta voice” and use they/them and it/its interchangeably for them (partly to distinguish from the large surplus of male characters). I prefer “meta” over “narrator” and “commentator” because it doesn’t really narrate anything, it gives more than just commentary, and just because it rolls off the tongue better.

More on the meta

It comments frequently on Henry’s stupidity, but it’s hard to truly baffle them. Not that Henry hasn’t managed to before in fails such as Cheese and Distract.

Getting the obvious out of the way, they’re known to crack jokes of all sorts, including memes, wordplay, references, & callbacks.

Lots of these jokes are at the expense of Henry, the player, or someone else. It frequently makes disparaging comments about the player or Henry in general; more common jabs include fatphobic comments toward Henry or making fun of the player’s poor skill.

Speaking of Henry and the player, it typically uses “you” for both you (the player) and Henry himself, but it does also differentiate between us and Henry, such as in the Duplicatorange fail and Toppy fails, even noting you to not be a stick figure

Not only are they aware of the player and Henry as separate, but they’re also aware that you’re playing a game.

The meta seems to have the most control over the timeline, including what counts as a “fail” and when a fail cuts off, as shown in the duplicatorange and invisibility pill fails.

It has a certain amount of control over the nature of the game itself. The slingshot fail in FtC has them creating various popups that the player must click through to get an achievement. This power isn’t limitless though: the CorrupTick fail in particular shows that things can fall out of their control.

They’re capable of summoning objects (this is implied in Dance Off v4 and outright confirmed in the Lockpick fail).

The free transform option also shows that it has the ability to directly alter people in-universe. The mind control fail implies that it may also be able to outright control people to an extent, but finds this difficult and thus avoids doing so.

They seem to exist in a flux state between being “the game master” and simply being a bystander. It knows at least a little bit about nearly every character in the game and has some control over the environment, but it also reacts to events as though it’s just a spectator and seeing things for the first time.

On a related note, they seem to be in a state between being “in” the game and existing outside of it. Things that would wipe out everyone in the vicinity have no effect on it, but things that alter things on a meta level (such as the corrupted disk, Goodball, and CorrupTick fails) do affect them in various ways.

They aren’t omniscient. They have info on nearly everyone, but they don’t know everything. A lot of their comments in fails seem to be guesswork, and their bios for some people, notably Ellie, are very lacking.

It can feel pain. They complain about their ears hurting from the high pitched sound of the sonic pulse. At the same time, it isn’t nearly as sensitive as Henry or other stick figures and can survive the subsonic wave with little consequence.

It can, supposedly, use the bathroom.

The duplicatorange and invisibility pill both imply that the meta voice has some sentimental attachment to Henry, triggering a fail screen whenever they lose track of Henry.

Related to the above, it seems to have a vested interest in keeping Henry alive, despite having killed Henry themself. Revenged is notable as an ending for the fact that Henry dies in every outcome, and The Betrayed isn’t much better in this regard.

It also shows mild concern for Henry’s wellbeing in RPE/RBH, asking him if his head is okay.

While it’s unknown if they know all languages, they do at least seem to know German, specifically commenting on Friedrich Spielen’s nonsensical German.

They can sleep and even dream; in the G-inverter fail they comment that they “had a nightmare like this”. It’s unknown whether they need sleep or if sleep is simply recreational for them.

I don’t know if the above indicates that they used to be affected by gravity or if they simply had a dream about being affected by gravity, but given their ability to simply hover at a point in the air or even outer space, they probably aren’t affected by gravity at any point that we know them.

The meta is aware of other timelines, making a reference to Charles during the helicopter fail in Toppat King.

While it doesn’t have a known physical appearance, it does occasionally emote with hand-drawn “emoticons”, some of which are even animated.

On rare occasions, it can conjure Twitch emotes or even a full animation of a stick figure.

*Doctor Who Spoilers*

So the 60th Anniversary specials have just finished and, for the most part, they were pretty good. David Tennant was as good as ever, the villains felt far more threatening than in recent years and Wild Blue Yonder was pretty close to perfect imo. But something has been lurking in the back of my mind since the final scene of The Giggle. Something that just hasn't let me enjoy the specials as much as I could

My problem is they fucked up 10's arc.

Now, as a person who absolutely loves the 10th Doctor’s era and story arc, 14 felt like a complete smack in the face. 10 was the most human Doctor, and his story is a brilliant deconstruction of who the Doctor is. Yes, he always tried to do good, but his hubris, vanity and selfishness led to his downfall, all of which was spearheaded by him losing Rose, driving Martha away, having to wipe Donna's memory and in the end having to sacrifice himself for Wilf. Was it tragic and sad? Yes. But not everything needs a happy ending. The fact that 10's mistakes came back to bite him was one of the many reasons why I loved that era so much, as whilst he was redeemed by sacrificing himself, his regeneration still held such an emotional impact due to the fact that he'd lost so much and had fallen from grace. It was sad, but it worked. It had weight because it was permanent. It was a unique arc in Doctor Who that should have been left alone.

But then 14 and the specials came along and kind of undid that. Turns out Donna was fine, she just needed to let the Metacrisis go. Turns out all 10 really needed was a holiday. Now he's had a happy ending, just relaxing whilst 15 goes and does all the hard work. Plus, it now means we have an excuse to call back David Tennant whenever we like (look, I love David Tennant and hold nothing against him, it's more the fact that Doctor Who has been blatantly using him as a crutch since 2019). The bi-regeneration also kind of robbed 14 of accepting death and allowing Ncuti to immediately take centre stage. 10's arc just feels cheapened in hindsight, as the weight of his actions isn't really reflected in him getting an "everything was right again" ending.

Of course, it's not all bad, and I'm probably just being incredibly picky. People seem to be really happy that 10 had a happy ending, and I wish I could fully enjoy that too. If we absolutely had to have this ending, then this is the best possible way to have it, it could have been done far more lazily. After all, not everything needs to be depressing and serious. Plus, I did like the specials overall and the fact that David Tennant managed to add more emotional weight to the Flux arc and play a far more experienced and mature Doctor. RTD screamed trans rights, mocked modern Internet culture and gave us the creepiest episode in years, all of which is absolutely fantastic. I just wish that RTD hadn't added more onto 10's arc and tied up the loose ends that didn't need tying up.

tell me about stained glass

yay!! it's so fun i can't wait to do it again i'm gonna tell you the whole process

so first you need to pick out your pattern/draw the design, make sure there's no weak points (lines directly through the entire piece etc)

once that's set you get to pick out your glass :D some glass is thicker than others but it doesn't matter too much unless you want it to be all the same, there's lots of different textures as well whcih can look really cool

next step is to trace the pattern into the pieces, you wanna go for the edge of the glass to save as much as possible for future projects, and if it's too opaque you need to either use a light box or cut out that part of the pattern

when it's all traced you're gonna start cutting. so get your little tool, make sure you're standing in order to get the pressure and right angle

this is the glass cutter ^^

now you gotta smooth that shit down so here's this guy

he's a glass grinder he sands down the sides into the right shape and makes sure you don't cut yourself as much. the bit is in the middle and you hold the glass with ur fingers and press it into the bit to grind it down

next is foiling but before that is cleaning bc the grinder has water in it and it mixes with the glass particles and makes it all icky so get some glass cleaner and wipe it down with a cloth

now time for foiling

this is copper foil, it comes in rolls with different thicknesses. generally one size fits most glass but thicker ones need thicker foil so it covers the side and equally on the front and back of the glass

i tend to start near a corner, then you're going to wrap it around being careful that the glass goes in the middle of the foil. once it's wrapped around once make sure it overlaps with the beginning about 1/4-1/2 inch, here you cut it

press the foil down on the sides and top and bottom of the glass, then get some kind of tool (can be anything tbh even a pencil or ruler) and rub the foil into the glass so it is fully pressed down

once it's foiled you're going to put the pieces together how you want them to lay in the final product. first is tacking, aka putting a small amount of solder on the intersections of glass. before soldering anything you need to put flux on the section you are soldering. (btw solder only sticks to foil not glass) flux basically is a liquid that prevents oxidation on the copper foil, making the solder stick.

there's lead free and leaded solder, i've only worked with lead free but many professional stained glass artists use leaded. it acts a bit differently when soldering but works just as well.

after tacking is the actual soldering. basically you take a stick of solder and a soldering iron and hold the solder right behind the iron so it melts and sort of drips down the edge of the iron onto the foil as you bring your iron across the foil. once you solder one side, flip it over and do the other, then the sides which is a bit different, with more tacking

after soldering you gotta clean it cuz it's dirty again so head to the sink and get some soap and a brush and scrub that shit off

then if you want you can add patina which can make the solder black or other colors i think

then there's polishing which you just scrub on with a cotton pad, you can buff it after this with just a cloth to make it extra shiny but yeah that itttt

Shuggy - 10/10 it's filled with all my favorite tropes. childhood friends, betrayal, tragedy and trauma. im a sucker for "love that survives despite the wounds" so they feed me well. 2. crocobug - it does something to my brain. im a sucker for boss/brat dynamics and buggy is a fearful cat that gets scruffed but also spoiled. it also gives room for buggy to be a little clever and smart and then you have @/peaceshire out here changing my genetic code with their fics with the most babygirl coded buggy that makes me want to rip my own heart out and mail it to them instead of leaving a kudo. 3. crossguild (croc/hawk/bug) - same as above with the added flavoring of whatever the hell hawk is. demonic sriracha, yea. the three of them together are so weird. like a dumbass eccentric stew of egos that kiss and take turns teaming up to bully the odd man out. 4. buggy/alvida - it is cool to me that alvida has a dorky af boyfriend to share makeup with and i think weirdly enough buggy brings out the best in her??? just this silly guy who enjoys her company and thinks she's competant and cool. am i wild for thinking so, idk. it sparks a great joy. 5. corabug - i haven't seen too much of it but in my firebug au i am v soft for it. two dorks together? great. cora could make buggy better, buggy could keep cora from falling into traffic. precious <3

Seems like everyone has their own headcanons about the names of Jaune's remaining sisters and parents. Some random, some with established naming convention. Let me throw my name headcanons in as well.

So far, all three Arc names we have follow the naming convention revolving around color yellow. Jaune is French for yellow, Saphron is reference to saffron (flower which can be yellow, but more importantly gives yellow color to food when used) and Crocea Mors is Latin for yellow death.

So following this logic, other Arc family members should also have yellow related names.

There are some shades of yellow that are disqualified for already being used as names by other characters. For example Amber, Sunny, Marigold, Vanilla.

There are also some shades that get dishonorable mention: Lemon Arc for sounding like Arcest fic, Banana and Goldenrod Arc for sounding like Jaune's dick name (banana gets additional dishonorable mention for reminding me of Jaune's current hairstyle) and Buttercup Arc for being a horse name.

First I'll go over parent names. I feel like gold naming convention would work well for them since it's more prestigious yellow. So golden parents, yellow children.

Father: Aurelian Arc.

Very straightforward, Aurum is Latin for gold. Roman emperor Aurelian founded Orleans (and it was named after him), tying it back to Joan of Arc.

Mother: Chrystine Arc.

Combining Greek word for golden "chryso" with Christ. It connects gold naming convention with religious aspect of Jaune's allusion.

Sister 1: Iris Arc

Iris flower can be in variety of colors, however the one used in French heraldry is yellow (fleur de lis). This connects yellow color back to French royalty Joan of Arc served. Iris also means rainbow in Greek, so when combined with last name it becomes rainbow arch.

Sister 2: Yelena Arc

Play on word yellow. Name Yelena comes from Greek "helios" meaning light. So she has both yellow and light in the name.

Sister 3: Jasmine Arc

Shade of yellow. It also goes back to religious aspect of Joan of Arc allusion since it means "gift from God."

Sister 4: Cassandra Arc

Sandy is shade of yellow. In Greek mythology Cassandra had gift of prophecy (but was cursed so nobody believed in her predictions), reference to Joan of Arc also being an oracle. Cassandra also means "the one who shines over men" , adding light to the name.

Sister 5: Flux Arc

Mix of flax as shade of yellow and lux meaning light in Latin. It works together with Arc as a reference to flux arc welding.

Sister 6: Laguna Arc

Shade of yellow. If you tinfoil it a bit Arc emblem is in a way atoll, metaphorically creating lagoon.

ingested the cyberium; most context yaz has is probably shelley? i dont think she saw the master on gallifrey. she didnt know (in the episode bc i do like the script version where she figures it out) that the master would be here when she started today. all she knows of the cyberium is what the doctor said about it in villa diodati or what the master says about it now + context clues. villa diodati for her i think is more than 5 years ago. i doubt she remembers anything concrete about what the doctor might have said about it there. i dont doubt she remembers shelley and the halfcyberman and the fate of humanity and the death and the pressure and the doctor for the first time saying out loud that yes im pulling away yes i keep my distance yes i wont let you close yes you know nothing about me yes it's on purpose yes people die yes theres blood on my hands yes i'll choose you over all of humanity yes

all our ends; the suicidal thread tying them all together. the doctor put her between them and the master accepted her position there. the mutually assured annihilation like matter and antimatter meeting in the middle. the flux to stop the doctor. what is yaz in this equation, the wild card? whatever she is, the master seems certain that she does not come out of this any better than they will (and he was right)

ever think about what flux is? might be? fluidity? irrigidity? the opposite of fixed? (cant fix myself) something inconstant?
