I was looking through Spring Creek's fowl collection and am in love with the Peaches. Is there anything you can share about them? Are they like the white ones where the ladies arent impressed, or do they have the more usual luck
The peach don't seem to have a problem breeding!
Peach is actually (genetically speaking) one of the coolest color mutations out there. It's a sex-linked recessive, but it's NOT a single-factor mutation like any of the others. It's a combination of Cameo and Purple.
So the thing you have to understand is that the sex-linked mutations are all on the Z chromosome. Males have 2 Zs and females have 1 Z. To show a sex-linked recessive color in the phenotype, "All" Zs must have the mutation. A peach bird has 2 copies of the purple mutation, and 2 copies of the cameo mutation.
In autosomal mutations, this isn't a huge deal. If something has 2 different mutations, then they're just on different chromosomes. But.... cameo and purple are both on the Z. You can't move them from one Z to the other normally.
So if you have a male that's purple (Z^pl/Z^pl) and you breed him to a cameo hen (Z^c/w), the daughters get a Z from dad (Z^pl) and their w has to come from mom. So they're purple. The sons get a Z from dad (Z^pl) and a Z from mom (Z^c), making them wild type heterozygous for purple and heterozygous for cameo. The same is true if the parents are switched. You can only ever make single-color hens and wild type het males.
So what gives?
Chromosomal crossover!
During meiosis back about 20 years, a cameo or a purple moved to the opposite Z while the chromosomes were swapping tails, and a pair of purple/cameo birds produced a few birds that didn't look cameo or purple, and blue birds that carried the double-gened chromosome.
A few years after that, a group of pure cameos also produced peach- it's likely in this case that purple spontaneously mutated in this group. Purple has already mutated at least twice that we know of (purple and European violet are both "purple" by genes, but with very different phenotypes), and probably mutates more often than we think, given that it's most likely a simple dilute, like chocolate in mice.
Now, we have Z chromosomes that have both cameo and purple on them (Z^plc), which makes for a Peach bird. The two genes cannot be separated on purpose, but through the same process that put them together, may be undone back to separate chromosomes, or removed entirely. At Bill's, he has a blue bird who came from purple parents (at least according to records), which suggests that the more likely candidate for the gene that translocates easiest is purple.
It does make me wonder if EV is the result of something similar; of a chromosome that perhaps got More Purple added through crossover. I don't have the records to be able to tell for sure, and haven't been able to trace origins enough to find out how it started.

Low Voltage Relays Explained: Types, Functions, and Applications

In the complex world of electrical systems, relays play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and automation. Among these, low voltage relays stand out as versatile components that manage and protect circuits operating below 1000 volts. Whether in industrial automation, residential power distribution, or commercial infrastructure, these devices act as the nerve center of electrical control and protection.
In this comprehensive guide, we will break down what low voltage relays are, explore their types, explain their functions, and highlight their diverse applications across industries.
What Are Low Voltage Relays?
A low voltage relay is an electrically operated switch that uses a small control voltage (typically below 1000V AC or DC) to switch larger electrical loads on and off. These relays act as intermediaries between control circuits and power circuits, providing isolation, control, and protection.
Unlike manual switches, relays automate the process of circuit management, responding to electrical signals, fault conditions, or system commands without human intervention.
Types of Low Voltage Relays
Low voltage relays come in several forms, each tailored to specific tasks within an electrical system. Here are the main types:
1. Electromechanical Relays (EMRs)
· Use a coil and a movable armature to open or close contacts.
· Provide physical isolation between input and output.
· Common in traditional control panels and basic automation.
2. Solid-State Relays (SSRs)
· Use semiconductors (like thyristors or triacs) instead of mechanical contacts.
· Offer silent operation, faster switching, and longer lifespan.
· Ideal for high-speed applications and environments requiring low maintenance.
3. Overload Relays
· Specifically designed to protect motors and equipment from sustained overcurrent.
· Available as thermal overload relays (using bimetallic strips) or electronic overload relays (using sensors and processors).
4. Time Delay Relays
Provide a deliberate time lag between the relay receiving a signal and switching.
Used in motor control circuits, lighting systems, and sequential operations.
5. Overcurrent and Short-Circuit Relays
· Detect and react to current exceeding preset thresholds.
· Essential for system protection against faults and overloads.
6. Voltage Monitoring Relays
· Monitor voltage levels and trip when voltages fall below or rise above safe limits.
· Protect sensitive devices from under voltage and overvoltage conditions.
Functions of Low Voltage Relays
Low voltage relays serve multiple vital functions in electrical systems:
1. Switching and Control
Relays control the opening and closing of power circuits in response to low voltage signals from controllers, timers, or sensors. This enables remote and automated control of large electrical loads.
2. Protection
Relays detect abnormal conditions like overloads, overcurrent, under voltage, and phase failures. When such conditions arise, they disconnect the affected circuit to prevent equipment damage or fire hazards.
3. Isolation
They electrically isolate control circuits (usually low voltage, low current) from power circuits (high voltage, high current), ensuring safety and reducing interference.
4. Signal Amplification
A small control signal (from a PLC, sensor, or microcontroller) can trigger a relay to switch much larger loads, effectively amplifying the control power.
5. Automation and Sequencing
In complex systems, relays help sequence operations by ensuring that processes occur in the correct order and at the right time intervals.
Applications of Low Voltage Relays
Low voltage relays are the backbone of automation and protection in various industries. Here are some key application areas:
Industrial Automation
· Control of motors, pumps, conveyor belts, and production lines.
· Use in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS).
Power Distribution Systems
· Protect electrical panels from overload and short circuits.
· Monitor voltage and current levels in distribution boards.
Building Automation
· Lighting control systems.
· HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
· Elevator and escalator controls.
Renewable Energy Systems
· Manage and protect solar inverters, battery banks, and wind turbines.
· Automatically disconnect faulty sections to prevent system-wide failures.
Data Centers and IT Infrastructure
· Ensure stable power supply to servers and networking equipment.
· Protect sensitive electronics from voltage fluctuations.
Transportation
· Railways, metros, and automotive applications for control and safety circuits.
Home Appliances
· Found in washing machines, microwave ovens, and HVAC units to automate functions and provide protection.
Advantages of Using Low Voltage Relays
· Enhanced Safety: Isolate control and power circuits, reducing electrical shock risks.
· Automation Ready: Easily integrated into automated systems for smarter operation.
· Cost-Effective Protection: Safeguard expensive equipment from damage due to electrical faults.
· Versatile: Available in many forms to suit different voltage levels, currents, and response times.
· Reduced Maintenance: Especially with solid-state relays, which have no moving parts.
Future Trends: Smart Relays and IoT Integration
As industries move toward smart grids and Industry 4.0, low voltage relays are also evolving:
· Digital relays offer programmable settings, self-testing, and event recording.
· IoT-enabled relays can send status updates and alerts to centralized monitoring systems.
· Energy-efficient designs reduce power consumption while providing reliable protection.
Conclusion
Low voltage relays are indispensable in modern electrical engineering, seamlessly combining protection, control, and automation. From safeguarding your home appliances to managing the power in a sprawling industrial plant, these devices ensure that electrical systems run smoothly and safely.
Understanding the different types, functions, and applications of low voltage relays empowers system designers, engineers, and even DIY enthusiasts to build safer and more efficient electrical setups.

Vaccines that protect against severe illness, death and lingering long Covid-19 symptoms from a coronavirus infection were linked to small increases in neurological, blood, and heart-related conditions in the largest global vaccine safety study to date.
The rare events – identified early in the pandemic – included a higher risk of heart-related inflammation from mRNA shots made by Pfizer Inc, BioNTech SE, and Moderna Inc, and an increased risk of a type of blood clot in the brain after immunisation with viral-vector vaccines such as the one developed by the University of Oxford and made by AstraZeneca Plc.
The viral-vector jabs were also tied to an increased risk of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a neurological disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nervous system.
More than 13.5 billion doses of Covid vaccines have been administered globally over the past three years, saving over 1 million lives in Europe alone. Still, a small proportion of people immunised were injured by the shots, stoking debate about their benefits versus harms.
The new research, by the Global Vaccine Data Network, was published in the journal Vaccine last week.
The research looked for 13 medical conditions that the group considered “adverse events of special interest” among 99 million vaccinated individuals in eight countries, aiming to identify higher-than-expected cases after a Covid shot.
Myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, was consistently identified following a first, second and third dose of mRNA vaccines, the study found.
The highest increase in the observed-to-expected ratio was seen after a second jab with the Moderna shot. A first and fourth dose of the same vaccine was also tied to an increase in pericarditis, or inflammation of the thin sac covering the heart.
Researchers found a statistically significant increase in cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome within 42 days of an initial Oxford-developed ChAdOx1 or “Vaxzevria” shot that wasn’t observed with mRNA vaccines.
Based on the background incidence of the condition, 66 cases were expected – but 190 events were observed.
ChAdOx1 was linked to a threefold increase in cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, a type of blood clot in the brain, identified in 69 events, compared with an expected 21.
The small risk led to the vaccine’s withdrawal or restriction in Denmark and multiple other countries. Myocarditis was also linked to a third dose of ChAdOx1 in some, but not all, populations studied.
Possible safety signals for transverse myelitis – spinal cord inflammation – after viral-vector vaccines was identified in the study.
So was acute disseminated encephalomyelitis – inflammation and swelling in the brain and spinal cord – after both viral-vector and mRNA vaccines.
Seven cases of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis after vaccination with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were observed, versus an expectation of two.
The adverse events of special interest were selected based on pre-established associations with immunisation, what was already known about immune-related conditions and preclinical research. The study didn’t monitor for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, that some research has linked with Covid vaccines.
Exercise intolerance, excessive fatigue, numbness and “brain fog” were among common symptoms identified in more than 240 adults experiencing chronic post-vaccination syndrome in a separate study conducted by the Yale School of Medicine. The cause of the syndrome isn’t yet known, and it has no diagnostic tests or proven remedies.
The Yale research aims to understand the condition to relieve the suffering of those affected and improve the safety of vaccines, said Harlan Krumholz, a principal investigator of the study, and director of the Yale New Haven Hospital Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation.
“Both things can be true,” Krumholz said in an interview. “They can save millions of lives, and there can be a small number of people who’ve been adversely affected.”

In September 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed the first of its kind live attenuated nasal spray influenza vaccine to be administered at home during the 2024-2025 “flu season.” Adults up to the 49 years of age are eligible to self-administer the FluMist Home vaccine or give it to their children aged two to 17 years old as long as they have a doctor’s prescription.1 The intranasal FluMist, which is manufactured by AstraZeneca plc, was licensed in 2003 for people ages five to 49 years old, but the license was modified in 2007 to include children as young as two years of age.2
Nasal FluMist Deemed Ineffective by CDC in the Past
In 2016, the nasal influenza vaccine briefly lost the recommendation of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) due to evidence that it provided “poor or relatively lower effectiveness” compared to other inactivated injectable influenza vaccines. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) had reviewed data from 2013 through 2016 and found that the FluMist Quadrivalent vaccine was merely three percent effective in preventing type A or B influenza in children.3
After AstraZeneca reformulated the vaccine in 2018, the live attenuated intranasal influenza vaccine was once again recommended by the CDC. However, the newer formulation has never been evaluated for effectiveness compared to other available influenza vaccines due to its limited use.4
The current Flu Mist contains live attenuated influenza A (H1N1) strains, which some experts say makes it equally effective as the injectable inactivated influenza vaccine.5 According to ACIP, vaccine efficacy for the injectable influenza vaccine was 32 to 60 percent for outpatients and 63 to 78 percent for inpatients in the pediatric population, and 34 to 54 percent for outpatients and 41 to 55 percent for inpatients in the adult population.6

- She has diagnosed ADHD
- Despite being very tiny and younger than all the other Ultra Academy students, she somehow managed to gain the respect of most of the other students, she’s also pretty popular for becoming a Scout at such a young age
- Zossie is obsessed with ground type Ultra Beasts, explaining why she likes Diglett so much
- In my version of USUM, all four of the sillies go to Alola, she ends up befriending Elio/Selene, Hau, and Lillie, she became friends with Lillie while they were staying at the Aether Foundation.
- She eventually becomes a trainer, catching a Diglett, Alolan Raichu, and Togedemaru, she likes electric types
- She also makes friends with Acerola and Sophocles
- Zossie ended up replacing Tray in Team 14 after his death
Rhi
Age: 14 (PLC), 18 (PoGo)
Family: Unnamed mother, unnamed sister
Birthday: 9-5-2240
- Rhi is a demiboy, they use he/they pronouns but prefer people using they
- They actually joined the Go Recon Squad a bit before the Alolarc, they wanted to try something different

- His childhood from 12-15 was pretty damn traumatic, he still has trouble processing it sometimes
- When he was 16, his brother ran away, leaving him alone, Phyco introduced him to Fyna, Janae, and Zossie and they essentially became his surrogate family
- Shit happens in PLC, but uhhh he loses a friend :( but he gets his brother back :)
- In my rewrite of USUM, Dulse and Soliera do not fucking trust Lusamine or Faba with Necrozma or Cosmog at all
- A group of Team Skull grunts tried to hassle him once, he looked at them, they ran
- He is like crazy good at making food, which he gets teased for by Zossie (even though she’s always the one asking him to make something), he also is just the mom friend and a massive himbo behind his RBF and lack of emotions
- He catches a daytime Lycanroc, Alolan Ninetales, Ralts, and a Gothorita, plus the Naganadel he has prior to USUM
- This man goes out in 90°+ weather in a FUCKING HOODIE, HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER (he and Irida are twinning)
Soliera
Age: 22 (PLC), 23 (USUM), 26 (Alolarc)
Family: Phyco (father), Marza (mother; disowned), Tulip (gf :))
Birthday: 11-29-2232
- Yes. I HC her as Phyco’s daughter.
- On the other hand, her mother, Marza, was a toxic model with toxic expectations on her daughter, Soliera was forced to look pretty whenever she was with her. She always wanted to be a Scout though.
- Phyco won custody over her when she was 15, Soliera would disown her mother after the events of PLC, realizing that she’ll never change
- She threw herself into things like sports, friends events, and her studies, she was a model student
- She can be a bit brash and easy to jump into things, she got into alot of fights in high school
- Soliera fucking hates Yungooses, they tried to chase her when the URS first went onto Melemele, the player had to help her
- Yes she’s dating Tulip bc I thought the vibes would be cute :) plus she learns that there are models with healthy and non-destructive mindsets out there unlike her mother, she’s sapphic asexual btw
- She travelled to Paldea within the period between USUM and the Alolarc, which is where she met Tulip and also added a Ceruledge to her team, which consisted of Nighttime Lycanroc, Alolan Sandshrew, Bisharp, and Toxapex
- She’s the opposite of Dulse where she is atrocious at cooking, she was left in charge of dinner once and gave the entirety of Team 14 severe food poisoning and the latter came back horrified
Phyco
Age: 58 (PLC), 59 (USUM), 62 (Alolarc)
Family: Soliera (daughter), Marza (ex-wife)
Birthday: 8-6-2196
- He helped establish the Ultra Academy and also the Expedition Program :) he also used to work with Xerosic (before his comically evil scientist arc)
- He stopped aging at 59, he’s pretty young compared to elder Megalopians, he also had Soliera at 36, he and Marza were older parents
- Phyco is involved in lots of important missions, due to his status on the Captains Council, which is how he took down UNIVations, rescued Dulse and Vycas, got involved in the Vantablack conspiracy, went to Alola, went BACK to Alola…
- He starts consulting Burnet about Ultra matters instead of Lusamine due to the situation with Lillie and Cosmog giving him and the others a bad vibe about Lusamine
- Phyco has an assortment of Alolan shirts, goes Mantine Surfing, and eats an ungodly amount of Malasadas he’s turning into beach grandpa
- Do not threaten his posse of weird cats (the other three) he will find a way to smuggle a school of Tynamo in your water tank
- He doesn’t really battle, but he owns a Furfrou, Alolan Persian, and a Naganadel just in case
- He tells the stupidest goddamn stories and they always make Soliera die inside

After a year-long campaign against its premises by Palestine Action and local community groups, Barclays PLC has sold all of its shareholdings in Elbit Systems Ltd (ELST). Until recently, Barclays owned over 16,000 shares in Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons company.
Starting just over one year ago, Palestine Action’s campaign saw activists undertake 54 actions against Barclays premises nation-wide. Smashing branch windows, spraying them in blood-red paint, many of these actions put Barclays sites out of operation for weeks, actions which sought to raise the costs associated with dealing with Elbit.
In the latest U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, Barclays owned 0 shares in Elbit Systems Ltd (ELST) [1], down 16,345 since the previous filing, 15th May 2024, worth over $3,400,000 [2].
Until then, recent filings had showed Barclays’ Elbit shareholdings at record high quantities [3], having steadily increased from zero ten years ago. The most recent SEC filings and NASDAQ data record an immediate total sale of Barclays’ ELST shares [4], abruptly sold just when Palestine Action’s campaign hit them hardest.
Initial research published in July 2022 by Campaign Against Arms Trade, War on Want and Palestine Solidarity Campaign showed the bank held shareholdings worth over £1.5billion in companies complicit with Israeli apartheid [5]. Palestine Action adopted the campaign in October 2023 due to the bank’s investments in Elbit Systems — the group’s primary target.
Palestine Action’s 11-month long campaign against Barclays reached its peak on 10th June 2024, when 20 branches had their windows smashed, drenched in red paint, in a co-ordinated nationwide overnight action with Shut the System[6]. Four days after, Barclays CEO CS Venkatakrishnan penned in the Guardian that the bank is concerned about “overall suffering” in the region, and is very accepting of the type of “peaceful protest” seen in multiple years of campaigning up until this year [7]. But, in a media campaign co-ordinated with former Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Venkatakrishnan complained of Palestine Action’s disruptive actions against the bank [8].
Inadvertently, Barclays CEO affirmed Palestine Action’s strategy, which is to make the cost of dealing in genocide, occupation, and apartheid exceed the potential to profit from it. Throughout this year-long campaign, several activists were arrested. During questioning, police claimed that many actions caused damage between £250k to £500k in value. Most actions forced bank branches to close for weeks at a time, contributing to the financial disruption to the bank.
These actions were taken as part of Palestine Action’s four-year campaign against the premises of Elbit Systems, and against the financial and industrial partners which support them. Elbit Systems is a major supplier of the Israeli military, its contributions including the vast majorities of Israel’s drones [9], along with mortary munition and artillery rockets [10] currently being used in Gaza.
