Ollivers dietitian appointment

today was ollivers first dietitian appointment after months of not being seen.

His new consultant is from a child development centre the same centre that olliver is on a waiting list to be seen about him being monitored and assessed for possible autism. 

anyway olliver started playing up before we even got to sit down in the room with this new consultant, he was running around the waiting room climbing on everything jumping up and down throwing toys pushing his sister the list goes on at this point i knew this appointment was not going to go well. 

three meltdowns later and a time out on the hospitals plastic chairs and it was our turn to go in, at first he wouldn’t go through the double doors leading to the room then once we managed to concur the double doors he was charging down the hall way refusing to go in to this room, at this point i was ready to call it quits but i stuck at it and got him in the room, next came the kicking the screaming and me trying to sit there and hold a conversation with this poor women who had no idea where to look, mum even tried to get ollie to calm down and sit still but he wasn’t having it. 

within five minutes the appointment was done after ollie picked up one of the childrens chairs and through it across the room that was it, time to leave he wasn’t settling he wasn’t interested and he definitely did not want to be there. despite all of his best efforts we did manage to get him weighed inbetween all the commotion and i’m glad to say olliver has gone from being just under 20lbs to now weighing 28lbs to a lot of people that wouldn’t seem like much but after almost two years fighting to get him to gain weight at last we have succeeded. 

he has now been discharged from the dietitians but he will remain on the waiting list to see a specialist about his lack of development and his behaviour. 

it’s safe to say i am one very tired mumma today and i can not wait to get in to my bed and go to sleep.

This is a 100% me, with ollie he had to have fruit and veg at nearly every meal time and his snacks had to be organic, now with having two i’m just like here have some wotsits etc i still make sure they have their 5 a day and exercise but now i’m just like you want chocolate cake ? have it

Trip out today sorting out his nana’s phone.

tired after walking around town yet still gives his mummy a cheeky smile.

he did so well eating, he finished his meal managed to eat mine and his nana’s desert then went on to eat his own.

it’s so nice to see my little boy eat, it’s taken so long to get him to eat every meal he is given and to actually finish. 

he is progressing so well.

that cheeky little smile i get every time i pick little man up from nursery.

it’s taken four weeks but he’s finally finding his feet in nursery, he’s managed to part ways with his comfort blanket and dummy during his nursery sessions, which completely shocked myself and the nursery staff. 

he’s eating well at nursery and is slowing finding the confidence to go off and play with the other children now, he still makes sure his key worker is near but he isn’t gluing himself to her anymore which is good to hear. 

i am so proud of how well he is doing and how far he has come, i love how he is now trying to say more words and is humming the tunes to his nursery rhymes. 

one thing that has really put me at ease with little man being at nursery is that they upload photos to the parenting app on his profile for me to see and knowing that if i want to phone up and check on him they are more than happy to do that. 

definitely the right nursery for my little boy, he is showing his true colors and i love it

I���ve tried to stay out of the covid debate, what we should, shouldn’t be doing. Mainly because I don’t know what the answer is myself. Plus I don’t like to get too serious, but it’s children’s mental health week and our kids are suffering. I saw a post on a mum site, which shall not be named but you know the kind, useful to find out what day the bin men are coming on a bank holiday, harmful if you find yourself losing 3 hours reading 220 comments on a post about about whether fireworks should be banned. Anyway the post was debating if playgrounds were essential travel. Well here is my pennies worth, life is fucking weird and our kids are adapting to shit they shouldn’t have to. They can’t hug their grandparents, they can’t see their friends, they can’t go play football, they can’t dance on a stage, they see the stress on their parents faces and hear the worry in their voices. They are hearing about death, all the time. They need something normal and that little time they get outdoors is their normal. They learn everything that is important from their social interactions, kindness from the friend who shares their snack when they dropped theirs, resilience from the child who is always picked last but still smiles, compassion from the child who gives an unexpected but needed hug and joy, they give each other so much joy.
