A Kickstarter to fund the project will run from November 7 and December 7.
Here is the full overview, via its official website:
Catbox Creative is teaming up with 07th Expansion, Witch Hunt Translation Group, MangaGamer, and Sound Cadence Studios to bring an updated version of the visual novel Umineko When They Cry to Western audiences.
Officially called Umineko When They Cry: Gold Edition, this version of the Steam game includes the following new features:
Full in-game voice acting, featuring an official North American cast approved by original series creator, Ryukishi07.
A graphics update, adding the option to play the game on Steam with graphics from the PS3 games Rondo of the Witch and Reasoning and Nocturne of Truth and Illusions.
New content directly from Ryukishi07.
Additionally, a fully voiced, dramatized audiobook of the novel, called “Voices of Rokkenjima,” will be released as a free podcast series on iTunes.

If the Kickstarter is funded, all owners of the Steam version of Umineko When They Cry will have access to the contents of Gold Edition as a free update. Depending on the success of the campaign, additional features and new content may also be unlocked.
As a reward for supporting the Kickstarter, backers will be able to obtain new official Umineko merchandise, dependent upon their pledge tier. Depending on the success of the campaign, more merchandise rewards may also be unlocked.
A preview of the dramatized audiobook has been released as a proof-of-concept video teasing the new English cast from the game and the English version of the song “One Winged Bird” (“Katayoku no Tori,” by Akiko Shikata).

I haven't post umineko stuff here for a long time, but today I finally completed a goal I made quite some time ago, which was to get all of the umineko no naku Koro ni gold edition DVDs.
Took some time to complete it since they're expensive and also hard to find (The last half of the set are the most difficult to obtain)
Amusingly enough I got some repeated volumes because I found an auction bundling some of them and it just so happened to have some repeated ones along with a few I needed. So I just bought it cause it was cheaper and faster than buying them individually in another site/auction.
And also bought some other umineko stuff I happened to find affordable while I was looking for the Gold DVDs, so they're nice addition to the collection.
Feels nice to finally be done with the search.
Rip my wallet tho.

Shannon: I don’t know, I still just- it doesn’t feel natural using those words all the time
Battler: Well, you see, the trick is: you’re not cursing all the time. You’re not throwing your fucks out all willy-nilly. You do that, and the words lose all their meaning. It’s like a stew. If you use too much salt and pepper, when you taste it, you’re not gonna like it. Curses have to be looked at like spices. You never want to use too much, or they lose their impact. You’ve got to pick your spots. The less you curse, the more powerful the words can be
Battler: *phone rings*
Battler: Tell me something good
Battler: Well then you tell those little fucking bitchy cunts that if they don’t get their fucking shit together, I will personally bitch slap each one of those pussies up and down the fucking reddit home page. If this fucking video goes fucking fuckity fuck shit, I will happily knuckle-fuck every last one of those pussy-ass bitches. You fucking hear me? You fucking hear me through those little twat ears? Good! Now get it done, you fuck. You bitch. You little bitchy fuck bitch!
Battler: *hangs up*
Battler: So as I was saying, the key is moderation

Opening Video
Synopsis:
Having lost his love, job, hopes, and even most of his youth, Yoshimura Osamu (28) uses the last of his money at the local pub and aimlessly wanders the streets.
Yet in this moment of utter hopelessness, the strikingly attractive woman -- who had been at the center of attention back in the pub -- approaches Osamu on the street in an attempt to cheer him up.
Sensing that fate itself could be at play in their encounter, Osamu resolves to confess his feelings to the older woman, but...
"Come visit me if you ever find yourself in trouble."
Learning that she runs an apartment complex in a prestigious district of the city, Osamu follows the address he had been given and arrives at the "Terrace House Hinosaka", a run-down boarding house.
But once there, he meets not Honoka, but a girl young enough to be her daughter... who, in fact, is her actual daughter, Hinosaka Mitoko (height: 144cm).
Osamu finds out that while he was busy contemplating fate and his own feelings, Honoka had found another man and eloped, leaving the boarding house to her daughter and a group of eccentric tenants.
And so begins the peculiar and bumpy life of a tall, well-educated, jobless young man (allegedly) and the admirable, hard-working girl who is a bit on the short side (although she herself denies it) under the same roof.
And so this tall, jobless, well-educated, and allegedly young man starts his life anew under the same roof as an admirable, hard-working, but vertically challenged girl who vehemently objects to the final part of that description.
Already overwhelmed by his eccentric new neighbors, Osamu finds himself fending off the inexplicable approaches of a co-worker at his new workplace, opposing the nefarious machinations of a wealthy young woman living nearby, and uncovering the truth about Mitoko's homeroom teacher: a woman with a penchant for wearing black stockings.
Where will our protagonist, who had unwittingly made bedfellows with misfortune, end up by the conclusion of this story?

Note
Well, apparently completely new since they've shown a sketch of a completely new protagonist (as a second part of a promo for Umineko no Naku Koro ni Saku, a compilation game for umineko) and it is currently named ●● no Naku koro ni, conveniently leaving out the thing that is crying. So, no Seagulls, No Cicadas, so it's safe to say, no umineko or higurashi rerelease! Either way, something to look forward to.
Oh and a kickstarter for an official english umineko dub is coming up called Umineko When They Cry: GOLD EDITION so that's also super sweet.

Tagged by @lives-in-a-harpsichord!
Rules: put your music on shuffle and answer the questions. When you’re finished, tag 10 people. (Spoilers: yeah, no. I’ve exhausted that.)
The first song describes how you die.
SMT Nocturne - Enter Dante
I can’t believe my demise will feature Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
Second describes your love life.
FictionJunction FUUKA - Kouya Ruten
Struggling to carry my freedom I choose a pathless path reaching a sunset more radiant than daylight
Screams vanish into solitude choking on teardrops everyone roams the wasteland alone
Nice.
Third played at your wedding.
Umineko OST - Wingless
Considering the previous song, perhaps it is only fitting that this one sounds like someone just died.
Add “in my pants” to the fourth.
Glenn Gould - So you want to write a fugue (in my pants)
So the title became nonsense, however, this song is the gold standard. Ideally, this is how much effort one should put into producing parody works.
Fifth played at your funeral.
Okami OST - Eager Susano-o
It sounds like there’s some physical hurdle to overcome at my wake, but also, everyone is having a great time? My death is plagued by random video game characters.
Sixth is your theme song.
Patapon OST - FEVER
The future is bright.
Seventh will be played when you think about someonething you love.
Chrono Trigger - Lost in Time (remix by XPRTNovice & urdailywater)
"Stop procrastinating.”
(I regularly check for updates on XPRTNovice’s OC Remix profile, because the guy does great woodwind covers of Final Fantasy songs. Like this and this.)
Add “with a shovel and a screwdriver” to the eighth.
It was just some random song with nothing but “intro” in the title. (Edit: hitting random until I got a song with a substantial title got me Laziest gal (with a shovel and a screwdriver) in town. Anything is a step up from “intro”.)
Ninth describes your week.
Värttinä - Äijö (lyrics)
I spent most of last week visiting my parents, but this might closer to the impression they have of me than the other way around.
Tenth will be played when you miss someone.
Seatbelts - No reply
Wow.

Umineko When They Cry Saku: Nekobako to Musou no Koukyoukyoku will launch for PlayStation 4 and Switch on January 28, 2021 in Japan for 8,800 yen, according to listings at retailers such as Amazon Japan, Rakuten, and Yodobashi.
Tumblr media
In addition to the standard edition, a 13,200 yen limited edition will also be available, which includes the following additional items:
Witches acrylic stand
Umineko When They Cry Saku potrait art collection
Golden Butterfly pin badge
One-Winged Eagle coaster
First-print copies for either edition of the game include a download code for Umineko fighting game spin-off Golden Fantasia (including the “CROSS” expansion). Golden Fantasia was first released for PC in December 2010. The “Cross” expansion followed in December 31. MangaGamer released an English version via Steam in December 2017.
Here is an overview of the story, via the game’s retail listings:
On October 4, 1986, there was a mass murder in a house on an isolated island. On that day, a “sacrifice” to the island was arranged.
The island’s name is Rokkenjima. Located in the Izu Islands, it has a total span of about 10 kilometers. The owner of the island is a Kinzo Ushiromiya, a wealthy man with a vast fortune.
Kinzo’s children and their families held a family meeting to determine the division of properties. The others are there for the purpose of working for Ushiromiya. A total of 18 people were gathered.
…and thus, preparations for the feast were complete. The typhoon that then occurs turns the island into a prison in the distant sea, with no means to escape.
This is a closed circle provided for a tragic event. A slaughterhouse where witches toy with poor victims.
The 18 people that gathered here cannot escape. Only lives scattered like flowers tossed about by a storm.
Is reasoning possible or impossible?
Who will get Kinzo’s vast inheritance? Where are the 10 tons of gold that Kinzo is said to have hidden? Can the mystery of the ominous epitaph indicating its location be solved?
How many people will die? How many people will survive? Or will everyone die? Is the culprit among the 18 people or not?
Is the culprit even a “person”? Or is it a “witch”?
If you deny that it is a witch, the mystery becomes difficult to comprehend. But if you acknowledge the witch, it becomes a ruthless fantasy.
If you want reasoning, then so be it. If there is an answer, then have faith and keep on searching. It is OK to resist. And it is OK to give in.
This is an eternal torture that continues until you believe that there is a witch.
