❝  just give the word and i’ll kill every one of them.  ❞ [ yakuza au ]
FOR THE “YOU CAN KILL ME BUT DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM” DYNAMICS
"D-Dachi-ojisan. I don't think that's gonna do you any good. I'm just gonna get transferred again."
Something he was used to since elementary-- Mainly because of his involvement with the Yakuza and parents' concerns about it. However, this reason was for a different incident. He had gotten into a fight and brought a knife.
Tumblr media
While he was at fault for bringing a knife to school-- Let alone stealing from one of the clan members, Akira seemed unscathed compared to the bullies who had attacked him first. Usually, it would be the opposite, he would be beaten up in order to not cause any trouble at school... But he finally snapped when it took too much to bear.
Rumor had gotten out that Akira was raised in a yakuza-owned orphanage-- And you could only imagine what rumours spread. 'Friends' he had made had avoided him for their own safety. But he was a civilian who happened to be raised in an orphanage run by them... Akira knew not all Yakuza weren't what people thought they'd be. They treated him like family-- Not your conventional one. But family either way.
Even the signs of bullying were prominent... None of the school faculty or the principal would step in to stop it. Akira could only assume they were afraid that the Clan would do something to the school; which was most likely to happen since Adachi Tohru; The Mad Jester was technically licenced as his 'guardian'. since no other member didn't want to put their name down for some sickly kid.
Tumblr media
"I did land a few punches and kicks... If that makes you feel any better! I'm that not that strong, which is why I stole your dagger. My bad." But he didn't even use it. The kid wasn't read for prison life at 15... Because of the stories from Adachi about his friend who was staying there for another couple of years.

Anyways since I'm writing an au for once I think it's the perfect time to post about another
Persona 4 Magic au
So those of you who follow me or recognize me (hi!! Welcome back!!) Well you might say "Scream"- that's me, -"you have a Persona 5 Magic au, is this the same universe?" And my answer is
Uh. Sure. It can be I guess
Anyways let's talk about shit
Yu Narukami is a witch. His parents were both magic users, but had outer sources of magic. As a witch, Yu can cast spells and shit with the magic within him. His parents are going abroad for a year and send him to live with his uncle in Inaba, with a catch
His uncle knows nothing about magic, so Yu had to pretend to be a normal human for the whole year
He's never had to hide his magic before, so it'll be a real challenge for him. But, he's willing to try
...yeah it doesn't go well
When he shows up, he can already feel magic within the town. There are magical beings present and almost immediately, someone turns up dead in a mysterious fashion. No one else can see the gills on the woman's neck but him, or so he believes
Yu becomes fast friends with a few kids in his class that really stink of barely-hidden magic.
Yosuke Hanamura, with his prominent canines and his suspiciously homemade juice boxes
Chie Satonaka, with her boundless energy, knowledge of the moon, and her love of meat
And Yukiko Amagi, who stares so oddly. He doesn't have much evidence for her yet, but he will
Then, a third year turns up dead. Yu sees the little horns on her head when he sees her on TV the night before. Another magic person is dead.
Then, Yukiko goes missing, and everything gets started
Okay that's it for me talking like that I'll lay out what the plot is and what everyone is and shit
So basically. Adachi is a seer, a human who can tell when someone's magic, and he finds out that the entrance to Mirror Inaba is in the TV. Plus, every monster he tossed in, died. So he sets up a plot to get monsters kidnapped and shit cause "they're subhuman anyways, I should be allowed to have fun with them"
Yu Narukami is a witch, as I said
Yosuke Hanamura is a vampire! He was a born vampire, but his mom is human so. His traits are real watered down. He's fine in the sun and can eat small amounts of garlic, but he still drinks blood
Chie Satonaka is a werewolf! There's a small werewolf pack that's been in Inaba for generations, and she's a member. Born a werewolf, she's really connected with her animal self, and is in control during full moons
Yukiko Amagi is a Fox Selkie, but her coat is an abnormal colour due to the fact that her grandfather was a Kitsune. As a fox she's mostly dark red with a white belly, eyebrows, and tail tip, but her paws are black, as are the tips of her ears. She can make vague illusions, and her coat stays locked with her mother's at the inn
Kanji Tatsumi is half Oni. His mom is human, but his dad? Full Oni. He has an older brother that lives with his dad, since both of them can't hide their demonic traits. Kanji looked human enough as a kid, but he's just started sprouting his horns and his teeth are a little larger. Plus, he's real tall and big
Rise Kujikawa is a daughter of Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of Love, beauty, music, dancing, pleasure- you get the gist. Her mother is her birth parent cause I said so. Her grandmother is a potions master, and Rise has decided to learn the craft as well
Naoto Shirogane is the youngest of the Shirogane Animal Shifters. The bloodline has been watered down over the years, to the point where the only animal form Naoto can take is a snow leopard. His markings are closer to blue shades than whites and blacks, and there's a little butterfly spot right on his chest
And Teddie is from Mirror Inaba. He is the only conscious being there, and grants protection to the team when they go to save people. He's not sure what he is, but he looks like a bear. Maybe.
Anyways yeah. Monster crew. Please ask me about this I'm proud of it

KagePro binge honestly making me revisit my Souyo Kagepro AU fic so I'm just. Going to flesh out the world properly here!
The fic in question btw, it was originally a very Yosuke-centric fic and is heavily based on Ayano's Theory of Happiness. I teased a sequel back then based on Lost Time Memory, and I have an idea of how I want it to go, but brainworms have not started again shshshsh. Hopefully this little worldbuilding helps get them going again lmao
The Heat Haze is a phenomenon only found in Inaba, and is accessed through the televisions in Inaba on the 15th of August, every year like clockwork. The only way to enter this world is for someone else to push you into the television, either willingly or by accident. While stuck in this world, you'll be tormented by your Shadow, and the only way for you to return back to the real world is to accept your Shadow. But don't take too long, because the portal closes once the day rolls over to the 16th of August, and by then your death is assured. If you managed to accept your Shadow, you'll be brought back to the real world and will be rewarded with your Eye Ability, corresponding to your true desires.
Yosuke has an adoptive younger brother in Teddie who's around a year younger than him, and they moved to Inaba while Yosuke was in second grade. Much like in canon, Yosuke was bullied because of his relation to Junes. He tries his best to make sure Teddie doesn't get the brunt of the harassment - all Teddie knows is that people are mean to his elder brother.
The Hanamura siblings were home alone and doing a little bit of playful roughhousing when Yosuke accidentally pushed Teddie onto the TV of their living room. The younger Hanamura disappeared into the screen, causing Yosuke to panic, only for Teddie to reappear an hour later, his eyes now red and looking shaken up. The date was August 15th. Yosuke was in fourth grade. And years later, he still blames himself for the incident, even though Teddie has already forgiven Yosuke a long time ago.
It was around this time that Yosuke started to become friends with Chie and Yukiko. And Yosuke, being the innocent and naïve boy he is, asked the two about the red eyes - and that was how Teddie was eventually integrated into their friend group, as the three with the red eyes helped Yosuke deal with the constant harassment from his peers.
It didn't help that Chie and Yukiko, both having red eyes, were bullied and harassed for it endlessly. The same thing had started to affect Teddie, as per the younger Hanamura's admission. So, they decided to stick together and support each other, Yosuke asserting that 'red is the color of a hero', and them using their abilities to help him and each other.
Anyways, let's talk eye abilities. Teddie's wish was to be able to cheer up Yosuke - which is why his Eye Ability is to be able to influence people's emotions through his words. His relatively innocent and simple mindset allowed him to reconcile with his Shadow easily. Meanwhile Yukiko and Chie entered the Heat Haze by accident, after a childish argument leading to them pulling each other into the TV. Reconciling their differences, it became clear Yukiko only wanted to be able to listen to Chie because she feels Chie's tendency to physically fight back could be dangerous to her, while Chie just wanted to protect the people she cares about. It translates to their Eye Abilities - Yukiko can soothe people's emotions with her presence alone, while Chie gains super strength. Chie and Yukiko were in third grade when this happened.
Kanji, Naoto, and Rise were pushed into the television by Adachi, Yosuke's uncle who took in the Hanamura siblings when their parents passed away, in a desperate bid to figure out how the red eyes worked to try and get rid of it once and for all. Kanji only wished to be able to not worry his ma because of his desperate search for an identity - this translated to his ability to sense other people's emotions. Naoto only wished to be more skilled in her detective work, seeing it as an out for the harassment she receives in the force - this translated to a limited ability to listen to other people's thoughts. Rise only wanted to be able to live a normal life, true to herself without the media on her back - which is why her eye ability is a lot like Kido's (invisibility).
Yosuke and Yu are the outliers. Yosuke gains his eye ability after forcing himself into the TV World, firmly believing he is the only one who can save Kanji and Naoto (and Rise too, but at the time he only knew the two to be targets). He faces his Shadow but couldn't make it in time to leave the Heat Haze, where he is forced to watch everything unfold in the real world by Izanami. She sees Yosuke as a symbol for humanity's tendency to ignore the truth, as Yu had chosen to not believe Yosuke and his story regarding the red eyes. Yosuke's eye ability, stemming from his wish to be a hero and save everyone, is the ability to see into other timelines.
Meanwhile, Yu somehow got his eye ability from reconciling with his guilt. Ever since Yosuke entered the Heat Haze, Yu has had dreams of Yosuke flinging himself off the school rooftop, his eyes red. Finding it in himself to apologize to Yosuke and accept his words as truth made Yosuke able to pass on an eye ability to Yu. His Eye Ability, stemming from a desire to be able to see the truth for a happy ending, allows him to act on Yosuke's Eye Ability, directing everyone to that elusive happy ending only they can see.
Except it wasn't really Yosuke who gave that Eye Ability to Yu. It was Izanami, who still wanted to believe in humanity. The dark part of her had sent an envoy into the real world to corrupt Adachi, seeing no point as to why the Red Eyes should exist if the Heat Haze merely claims lives and those who escaped the Heat Haze had to live in constant harassment either way. But a tiny part of her wants to believe, to trust - which is why she allows Yosuke to have the slightest bit of influence in the real world, which he uses on Yu.

saw you reblog about the headcanon of Adachi being Joker’s uncle and like.
Same.
I need more of it
can see so many AUs such as maybe where Joker is sent to inaba instead of Yu and has to be babysat by his uncle adachi but then turns out he’s the mcfucking culprit 😔 or really just an AU in p5 where Adachi’s case is dropped due to the lack of evidence and he gets involved with the phantom thieves, I find it so funny; I want them to kick ass together they are literally so unhinged and Adachi would be a bad influence how are they not related FR FR me everytime Joker sass I’m reminded of Adachi’s sarcasm sass ✨🧍
Hello fellow persona enjoyer!
Yes to all of these!!!
Mind you, i dont know p4 endgame yet, but adachi after probably jail or whatever goes back to the city like he always wanted and opens a coffee shop. And akira gets sent to him. He figures out the phantom thieves pretty quickly and feels like he just got a big dose of karma, but decides to support them and work on negating akira's record. He would be the chaotic uncle everyone loves and goes to for advice

you are not immune to yakuza au
some info under the cut!!
- known as the “Black Cat’ of the clan and ‘Sticky Fingers’ by Adachi and Shibu, he’s knows how to expose others secrets in exchange of money (to pay for his meds.) he can steal items and gather info easily without being caught. eventually bringing bad luck to the person he’s targeting; despite looking like a harmless civvie.
- dia in this au is an orphan ! born with a terrible immune system as a child, he had been abandoned by his parents and put him in the nearest orphanage (which happened to be the same one shibusawa and adachi were raised at). medical bills were piling up and they couldn’t afford it. dia doesnt remember much, but he knows he’s a lot weaker than most kids. (has serious case of asthma)
- was bullied during junior high up until his second year of high school because of his connections to the yakuza, while he is still a civvie during that time; his guardian is Adachi. he didnt want the cause the school trouble so he just took it. but then he snapped. eventually beating up those kids.
- eventually dropping out high school, he works under adachi as an apprentice of sorts! not exactly an official member of the yakuza yet, but he gets his tattoo once he turns 19.
- he has a fake id to manage a business a cat cafe (it says his name Akaito Diya and his age is 21 ) a play on words for Red Diamond. Adachi got him the ID through connections. Customers just call him ‘Dia!’
- refers adachi as ‘Dachi-oji’ basically Uncle Adachi since he was the only adult around to sign him as a guardian. respects him a lot! despite..... how chaotic he can get
- enjoys gyaru culture, he likes being trendy!! he dresses in the gyaruo sub-style: host ken!  basically a more flashy style of what host clubmembers wear. and rokku, basically rock-style.
- wears leather gloves to cover up his prints!
- ofc, morgana is his partner in crime for stealing info!! they’re a stray he took in to the orphanage without the supervisor knowing.
- while not physically strong, hes good with a weapon when he needs to fight. has a preference fro switchblades and ice picks. hes also pretty quick on his feet!! parkour baby!!!!!
- adachi eventually adopts him in the future. so dachi-oji becomes, otousan!!

Okay. Another in a long line of aus that have been coming from my mind lately
P4 but it's P5
Aka, the P4 Tokyo au
Gonna lay it out, but if you just wanna know everyone's roles scroll to the end for the list of the arcana :)
Alright. Let's do this
So, Yu Narukami was walking home one night when he hears a woman scream. He runs over to help and sees a man trying to assault her so he steps in. The man, drunk, falls over and gets hurt. The blame is placed on Yu, who is arrested and found guilty
Now, his parents don't want to deal with him, sending him to live with his cop uncle in Tokyo. Dojima isn't too happy about it, and to keep Nanako safe, he has Yu live in the old Yongen police station, now a storage building. It's dusty and old, but Yu thinks he can clean it up a bit
He's at a new school. Everyone seems to hate him. He spots a boy on the way to school, watches a teacher berate the kid before he pedals his bike faster. It's raining. The water from his tires flies up dousing Yu and a girl chasing after him
She's Chie Satonaka, formally a part of the martial arts club at Shujin, kicked out due to the extreme number of demerits she's earned. All from the same teacher that yelled at that boy
The boy being Yosuke Hanamura, who transferred last year. Kids being blamed for his father's business taking over a whole slew of smaller businesses in another area of Tokyo, just another big supermarket. But then as well, a certain teacher keeps spreading rumors about him and his family's business. It isn't helping
Anyways. Yu and Chie stumble into the Metaverse, find the shadow of King Moron, and a little bear named Teddie. Then they're back in the real world and shit and blah blah
We know the story by now. The third joins the team, they steal the treasure, etc
In the real world, Teddie is one of those Teddie bear dogs. The tiny ones. I think that's funny
Anyways. They save the day and things move forward. They are the Phantom Thieves. They're going to keep stealing treasures and saving people
On to arc two! After the teacher thing, Chie gets approached by a girl in a kimono, as they're walking through Shibuya. A local group was doing advertisement for a special like traditional style decoration event at an inn. And. One of the young designers wants to use Chie for inspiration
After. Having her soul bared to her. Uhm. Yeah.
Anyways there's a senior designer there that keeps trying to convince everyone the inn is haunted or something. He's an asshole. Wants to ruin the inn so he can buy it to be his personal mansion
Anyways Chie nearly has to get nude but before that they convince Yukiko Amagi to join them and defeat the designer
So. There's that
Anyways next arc!
So. Dojima is still a cop. He's on the case of a large crime group in the city, with another detective Adachi, and. A teenager.
A first year at Yu's school. Pretty much a kid. The cops aren't happy they brought the "genius Detective Prince" in cause they couldn't end it soon enough, but. The whole unit is sick of this kid on day one. Doesn't talk to them. Stands there. Uses big words.
The kid doesn't have friends at school. But, they get closer than anyone else does. Aka, they find both the Phantom Thieves and the crime ring. At the same time.
Naoto Shirogane is looked down on for being a kid but also was never allowed to be a kid. Lonely as fuck. Pressured into throwing themself at the crime boss with no backup
The team finds them insufferable at first. Until they're in the palace and Naoto breaks. And then gains their persona
(Genderfluid Naoto here. Some days he, some they, some she.)
So we've got a "criminal", the reason everyone's parents are broke, Shujin's most violent second year, an interior designer, and a young detective. Oh and Teddie
It's. Going great for them
And it lasts a while until, they get a strange request. An anonymous online fan wants their heart stolen. They're worried they'll resort to extremes soon, and don't want to wish that grief on their loved ones. It's, a lot,
And. They investigate enough to find out the request came from within the Dojima house
Former idol Risette has been living with them since she was attacked, assaulted. She doesn't go out, has a fear of being around crowds and, shit like that. She blames herself, she's read too many online comments. She was asking for it, and all. And she feels, gross. So, they go to steal her heart
And she joins the group! As their Navi! Fun!
Then the second years go to Hawaii, leaving only Naoto and Rise behind in Tokyo, and when they return? They have another palace!
This one idk but Kanji joins the team here. It's Kanji he's gay and likes manly things like sewing.
Anyways after that it's, another Palace that's honestly not chosen cause idk who'd be the Judgement (Margaret?? Maybe) and Adachi joins the team and then betrays them and then they're after the prime guy and then God
But yeah. Thief Team
Fool - Yu
Chariot - Chie
Lovers - Yosuke
Magician - Teddie
Emperor - Yukiko
Priestess - Naoto
Hermit - Rise
Empress - Kanji
And yeah. I've got some ideas for it and all but. Yeah. Ask me about it

Hey!!! I’m back again!! Been thinking about your oc Shinjiro Hamasaki (I think I got his name right lol)! I just gotta know; what’s he like? How did he and Takaaki become friends? Does he know Taka well? And… what do you see their relationship as? Do you see them as good friends… or something more? 😏😏 sorry if this is a lot lmao! You don’t have to answer all these now! They’re just thoughts that I had!
Heyyyy!
Haha yep you got it right! And yeah, let's give him backstory! I've actually (mid writing this) realised how I want them to be connected and why he didn't abandon Takaaki like everyone else...slight change to what I originally said when I introduced him but pfft. I'll go back and edit it!
As for question on what he is to Takaaki...sorry to disappoint, but he's his best friend. Takaaki for me is a straight man as is Shinjiro. I quite like the HC of Takaaki and Hiro's mum being a thing - contemplating it in my AU but not sure. So no romance for Takaaki today haha!
Fun fact - when I picture Shinjiro I get a combination of Matsuda from Death Note and Adachi from Persona 4 (like...early version of him...which you'll know what I mean if you've played it...).
But let's give him a friend, shall we? Thank you so much for your ask and I hope you enjoy!
**********************
• Shinjiro and Takaaki have been friends since University.
• They were roommates and, despite having polar opposit personalities, they got on like a house on fire.
• Takaaki was always a serious man, even before his father's scandal, and it wouldn't suprise you to know that Taka is pretty much his teenage carbon copy.
• Shinjiro, on the other hand, was quite quiet and gentle.
• But the opposite personalities clicked and they became inseparable.
• They both studied law and partway through decided that they would apply to the police force as soon as they could after graduating.
• And Shinjiro was actually the one to introduce Takaaki to his future wife...who happened to be his sister.
• Kiyomi Hamasaki fell head over heels for Takaaki Ishimaru the moment she lay eyes on him and her brother made sure they ended up together.
• Naturally, Shinjiro was the best man at their wedding five years later.
• During this time, they both signed up to be in the police and passed with flying colours.
• And as soon as they stopped being seen as 'rookies', they were assigned as each other's partner.
• Life was easy at first - Takaaki and Kiyomi were enjoying life together and Shinjiro was always around to spend time with.
• When he found out he was becoming an uncle, Shinjiro was over the moon.
• And don't you know he was the best damn uncle!
• His confidence had grown a bit and although still a quiet man, he could lay down the law when he needed to - not that baby Taka was much trouble.
• He was also the one of the few that stood by the Ishimaru's when the scandal happened.
• He knew that Takaaki and his father had a rocky relationship and knew that he had no involvement with what happened.
• So when the world turned its back on them, Shinjiro helped them find a home and looked after Taka when they had to work late nights just to feed their son.
• He watched as Takaaki's personality changed around everyone - even his family - but vowed to stand by him no matter what.
• He stopped coming around so often - not because he wanted to, but because Takaaki was embarrassed of how he and his family were forced to live.
• But they stayed partners, even though the police tried to pull Shinjiro away.
• And so Shinjiro was treated the same as Takaaki - given the worst cases with no emotional support.
• It was fine though. He had his best friend by his side and he would always keep him above the water when things seemed tough.
• But when Kiyomi died...Takaaki changed.
• He became distant and cold, throwing his whole life into his job.
• And it was so he didn't have to go home to an empty house - even if that meant Taka was alone.
• Shinjiro was also devastated - of course he was, she was his only sister.
• But one of them had to be strong. And he decided it would be him.
• He would often make sure Takaaki ate, told him to go spend an evening with his son, anything to keeo him going.
• He could see Takaaki trying not to drown, could see the love in his eyes whenever they spoke about Taka.
• But Shinjiro knew this was something he just couldn't fix.
• Once Taka was older, Takaaki started to change as well.
• Maybe it was this boy that his son was dating that did it - but he could see more happiness on his face whenever he spent time with Taka.
• The OCD, the social awkwardness, the bullying...it seemed to be getting better for Taka - and Shinjiro knew these were things that Takaaki had no idea how to deal with.
• So seeing his son finally happy made him happy too.
• Sure, work still sucked and they were treated like the scum of the earth.
• But Shinjiro was able to finally see the man Takaaki used to be.
• And that made him happier than he could possibly imagine.

BONUS DRABBLE - JESTER!DOJIMA ACCOMPLICE ENDING
[Writing the perspective of Hierophant!Adachi and this AU in those past two drabbles honestly gave me a lot of muse for Jester!Dojima, and so to test out his muse here I thought I’d try my hand at the Accomplice Ending for the Hierophant!Adachi and Justice!Naoto AU - and at writing in the game’s style of dialogue. Some of the lines are lifted directly from the game. P4G spoilers ahead, but I worry about you being here if you were worried about that. 3000 words.]
-
You’re standing outside Aiya’s, the bitter December wind cutting past your clothes and into your skin. You can barely tell through the thick yellow fog that seems ever-closer to choking the little town of Inaba, but it’s snowing. The only way you really know is the patches of white on the ground and the little flakes striking against your black coat. To your right is Hanamura Yosuke, your partner and best friend, and to your left is your cousin Dojima Nanako, the famous Detective Duchess. There’s a question that plagues your minds, and a dilemma that you’re pretty sure plagues only yours.
> With all of you getting a confession out of Namatame Taro, there was an obvious hole in his testimony, which revealed that someone besides him committed the first two murders, the killings of Yamano Mayumi and Konishi Saki.
> It was obvious that whoever did also left the warning letters to your house, and knew about the TV world. They would have had to have knowledge both on your and your friends’ whereabouts, as well as the current police investigation.
“Well, Big Bro?” Nanako looks at you with the barest hint of a placating smile, offering the slightly joking nickname she’d given you when you first met as a way to try and clear the air. It doesn’t really work, and her smile quickly dies. “Do you have an idea as to who the culprit may be?”
“I’m all ears.” Yosuke adds, stuffing his hands in the pocket of his coat. He’d forgotten gloves. You place one hand in your pocket, and look up at the cloudy, fog-ridden sky.
> The person who seems to be the most likely culprit is…
There are ideas that cycle through your head then, some much more likely than others. None of your friends had the ability to enter the TV world until after the murder of Yamano Mayumi, and they are all your friends that have stuck with you and fought with you. They’re all ruled out.
Most of the Inaba townsfolk don’t fit the bill, either, not knowing enough about you or the case. Shirogane-Adachi Naoto is an idea that comes up for a brief second, but you know that behind her bratty front, she really does strive to see the case solved. Besides, she was also a kidnapping victim whose shadow you saw, and you have a hunch that if she were the culprit, her shadow would have mentioned it.
Adachi Tohru, Naoto’s father, does fit the bill. He’d been to the Dojima household before, was active in the police case, and knew you well enough. However, he was willing to see the culprit caught and the case solved at the risk of his life, and has been someone actively trying to work towards that goal. For the sake of the suffering he and his daughter have endured, you have the gut feeling that they are solely victims in this case.
...You’ve thought of nearly everyone you can think of, and the only person that really fits all of the criteria is someone that you want to deny the possibility so badly.
Your uncle, Dojima Ryotaro.
> The idea makes your stomach lurch, but...
> ...If Dojima is the killer, he would have to have been careful to hide his ability to enter the TV world.
> Based on that assumption, it seems possible that it could be him.
> After all, as your uncle and the owner of the house where you stayed, he could easily have observed your actions.
> Obviously, he had easy access to his own house, and he’d be more familiar than anyone else with the area.
> He also frequently put off working on this present case to focus on another, yet always seemed to give you or Nanako information on it. Telling you where the police were or what theories they were thinking. Asking questions that, for a man who seemed to be focusing all his attention on his wife’s murder case, were oddly attentive and specific.
> Finally, after the temporary death of Shirogane-Adachi Naoto, he was quick to point Adachi, and thus the rest of you, in the direction of Namatame’s room, then didn’t arrive at the scene himself. He now seems anxious to move Namatame’s location to another hospital.
There’s no one else that it could be, and you can feel the numbing chill of unease settling in the pit of your stomach when you reach this realization.
> However…
> He’s still your uncle.
> …
> Should you tell your friends about your suspicions about Dojima being the culprit?
Nanako was even standing right next to you. How were you supposed to tell her that her own father was the culprit? For a teenage detective, she was used to catching criminals, though you can’t imagine the shame and the fear that she would experience at her own father being a killer.
> Your instinct is to protect him, for the sake of the bond you shared. You want desperately to not think of him as the culprit.
> But there is more than enough possibility, and you can’t say for sure that he isn’t.
The gears in your mind keep turning, and you shake your head a little to try and clear your mind. Try as you might, you cannot think of anyone else besides Dojima that could be the culprit. But…
But you don’t have it in your heart to say it out loud. As if saying out loud would turn it from a possibility to a reality, though the actions of the past haven’t changed.
> You decide to keep it in your heart, without telling your friends…
Nanako keeps looking at you intently, but when you shake your head, she sighs, and takes off her light blue detective’s hat, upturning it to knock off the snow.
“Well, it appears our only option then is to remain patient. Namatame has confessed to his crimes, and has been arrested, but…”
“You’re saying that no matter what we do, the case is going to remain like this?” Yosuke asks, visibly deflating and voice low. Nanako gives a sober nod.
“...And the truth will remain forever lost in darkness.”
“More like lost in the fog.” Yosuke replies, but you can tell he’s not saying it to try and be funny. He cranes his neck upward to try and see anything, even the falling snow, past the thick fog veiling the sky, and Nanako is quick to follow suit. You, however, let your head hang low and stare adamantly at the sidewalk without looking at it at all, fighting the nausea in your chest, wondering over and over if what you’ve done is the right thing.
> You have no idea.
---
Months passed, and the fog got thicker and thicker. You and your friends avoided talking about the case, all of you uneasy with the idea that the real culprit could be out there. You never mentioned your suspicions about Dojima, trying to convince yourself that they were unfounded. All of you instead spent most of your free time searching for Teddie, whom you hadn’t seen since the night of Naoto’s temporary death. Nanako seemed to think that he’d most likely returned to the TV World, but for what reason you don’t know.
Though every day felt like an infinity with the worries that burdened you, it was finally your last night in Inaba. Nanako had left a week before to return to Tokyo for another case, telling all of you that she was sorry to have to leave under these circumstances, but that she would return as soon as possible. You and Dojima were the only ones in the house, but you can’t decide whether that was for better or for worse.
Finally, you decide to walk downstairs, and decide to talk to your uncle. You feel a little foolish doing this in your pajamas, but there’s no turning back now.
> Dojima was seated at the kitchen table, a cup of coffee cradled in his hands despite the late hour. A bottle of bourbon - one that you and Nanako had bought for him - was on the table next to the coffee pot.
“...Hey.” Dojima says when he notices you, and makes a slightly authoritative gesture to sit in the seat across from him. You obey. “Sorry I haven’t been around as much these past few weeks. Everyone at the station is putting in overtime to try and work on the case.”
You nod. You’d heard snippets about this from Adachi, but he was quick to shoo you away from the bustling station when everyone was so hard at work.
“And without Nanako working on the case too, most of it’s been delegated to me and Adachi-san, which is-”
> “Did you do it?”
> Your words tumble out of your mouth before you can even think of catching them…
Dojima blinks. “Do what?”
> “Kill Yamano Mayumi and Konishi Saki.”
He’s silent for a second, and you can’t meet his eyes, instead looking at his shirt. It was a very light red, almost a pink, usually hidden behind the suit jacket he always wore. He once confided in you that it was his only white dress shirt once, but he’d accidentally run it through the wash with his crimson tie. You wonder why he hadn’t bought another one, trying to think of anything besides what you just said.
“Come on.” Dojima replies, looking you over to gauge how serious you are. “Even if you’re kidding, this is an awful joke. You can’t honestly believe that, can you?”
> You want to believe him, but something is still gnawing at you.
“Besides,” your uncle adds, picking up the bottle and pouring a shot of bourbon into his coffee before taking a sip. “You and your friends are the ones who brought Namatame in. Or are you still trying to play detective?”
You shrug.
“You’ve got some serious stones to try and accuse a guy of murder in his own house. Even if I were the perp, what’s your game plan here? Convince me to turn myself in? Blackmail?”
> …
> “No.”
“Then this just seems like a waste of time. At least you didn’t go to the station with this, I can’t imagine the kind of stink Adachi-san would raise if you brought baseless accusations like that into the station. You don’t even have any proof that I did it.”
> “I’m on your side.”
You say it without thinking. There’s the barest hint of a smile on Dojima’s face after the surprise wears off.
“What? You trying to play the hero or something? Or, wait. The killer, you mean. You remember that I’m a cop, right? You know what that means?”
> There’s no going back now.
> “Yes.”
After another agonizing second of silence, Dojima breathes out a half-chuckle, setting down his coffee mug. “Here.”
He pulls out a folded piece of paper from the pocket of his jacket, and sets it on the table. It’s the warning letter that got delivered to your house.
“I accidentally forgot to leave this in the station. I’ve been meaning to forward it to Forensics, but it keeps slipping my mind.”
> Was it just you, or was there a slightly smug lilt to his tone now?
“I thought it was just a prank, but who knows? It could have been the piece of evidence to turn this whole case around.” He unfolds the letter and turns it so that it faces you, before calmly sliding it across the table towards you. He then calmly takes another drink of his spiked coffee. “The real killer - me, in this instance - would want you to do something about this.
“If I were the killer, well - you’d be in a pretty difficult spot, huh? So would Nanako. I don’t know what the two of you would do without me, or how you’d deal knowing that some member of your family betrayed you.”
Dojima reaches into his pocket again, but this time pulls out a lighter before setting it on the table next to the letter. You’ve seen it before. It’s the one that he uses to light his cigarettes.
“And you all have been fighting for a year to get this case solved. You, your friends, Nanako, even Adachi-san. For all your sakes, it really is a damn shame that no one’s caught the killer yet.
“Especially for Nanako. Her drive for justice… It reminds me so much of Chisato. It’s a pain to see sometimes - painful, you know. I’d hate to see all her work be for nothing in the end.”
> He’s not even trying to hide his smile. It’s the same one he’s always given you, but it suddenly feels so much more sinister. Shivers run down your spine when you meet each other’s eyes.
“...Well?”
> Your uncle is staring at you...
> You pick up the lighter, then the letter, and with a flick, the letter catches on fire.
> You know you still have a choice, but it feels like you’re being moved like a puppet on a string, arms like lead. Or maybe that’s what you’re convincing yourself to think, because you know that this is your choice.
> You’ve done it.
> You’ve betrayed everything that you and your friends have fought for for the past year.
> All gone up in smoke, just like this last piece of evidence.
> It feels awful.
> Wrong.
> Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
> Maybe Igor can help. He’s moved you back to fix your mistakes before.
> But something tells you he won’t do it this time.
> Because you’re a killer. You’ve helped a killer.
> You don’t even realize that Dojima’s laughing until the letter is nothing but ashes scattered across the scrubbed kitchen table.
There’s nothing extraordinary about the way that he laughs. You can’t recall how many times you’ve heard your uncle laugh in the past year, it hasn’t been too often, but it sounds normal. You expected more from a maniacal serial killer, from the person who facilitated this game for the past year. But it’s his normal laugh, a fatherly chuckle that nonetheless shakes you to your absolute core. When he looks up at you, his eyes are shining merrily, and his voice is much more smooth and condescending than it has been.
“I’m so glad you finally decided to see reason.”
He takes another drink of coffee, still chuckling.
“You did the right thing. Me, Nanako, and now you… we’re family. And family has to stick together and protect each other, right?
“Here.” He stands, and you involuntarily flinch. He stands and turns to the cabinet, where he fetches a coffee mug before setting it down on the table. “This is your mug, you can write your name in it later. As long as you’re here, you’re family.
“But I have to say thank you. I’ll be calling you when you leave omorrow, when you head to the station for home, alright? And a lot more often in the future. I’ll have to check up on you.”
Another smug smile.
“...Which I think should make it pretty clear that it would be a dumb idea to try and change your phone number. I have a lot of connections, you know. To the police. To your mom. Wherever you go… it’d be easy for me to track you down.”
He gently pushes the mug into your hands, before standing up and walking back to his room.
“See you tomorrow… partner.”
> You stay frozen to the chair for what feels like hours.
> What have you done…?
---
> It’s your last day in Inaba…
> You’re almost glad you waited until the last minute to talk to Dojima. You don’t think you could have looked anyone in the eye for that long.
The trains begin running early in the morning, and you decide to leave the house early, before anyone else wakes up. Whatever it takes to get out of this town as fast as possible, to avoid looking at the faces of your friends. Maybe you can just escape from this choking fog, back to the city, and just keep a low profile and hope your uncle doesn’t want any help from you when he calls.
You keep your eyes trained on the ground as you walk towards the Yasoinaba station on autopilot. On your way, you pass the police station, but something makes you stop.
> It’s Naoto…
> Her back is to you. She’s fallen to her knees on the pavement, looking up at something.
You approach her slowly, switching your bag to your other shoulder, before arriving at her side, and you finally get a look at her face. She’s wearing the TV World glasses that your friends gave her, looking above her at something. Her face is utterly frozen, petrified, mouth hanging open in shock and tears silently running down her face. She doesn’t acknowledge you at all.
A clatter of light metal on concrete makes you sharply move your head in the direction of the noise. You can’t see anything with all the fog - it’s gotten so much worse, maybe even worse than yesterday - so you pull out your own glasses and put them on.
> It’s a pair of silver, double-bridged glasses.
It takes you a split second before you recognize them.
> Adachi’s glasses…
Slowly, you look up in the direction in which they’d fallen.
And, tangled up in the wires of the telephone poles by the police station that ran across the foggy Inaba skyline, is the sprawled, pale body of Adachi Tohru.
> Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
> You look back down at the broken expression on Naoto’s face.
> You reach out a hand to comfort her….
But right before your hand makes contact with her shoulder, your phone rings.

A half-baked Adachi is Mishima’s Dad AU
-Mishima's familial backstory has been changed; his mom had him very young, and grandparents chipped in a lot in helping to raise Mishi-baby  -Eventually mom died, and then later grandparents, leaving Mishi in the care of his aunt n uncle but then they're workaholics and don't want the responsibility of a child on their hands so they contact Adachi who just finds out he has a kid -Congratulations -It's a boy
-Adachi is so not ready to be a dad and neither are the aunt n uncle and mishima's a hot potato between them -(sarcastically) this does wonders for Mishima's self-esteem -eventually a deal is worked out between all of them where Mishima spends half a year with Adachi, with child support from his aunt n uncle for the duration of his stay with them -Adachi doesn't like the kid. He swears he doesn't. No, he doesn't love the adoring looks the kids gives him or how the kid seems genuinely proud his dad is a cop -Maybe he does a little but he'll die before ever admitting it. Open paternal love is not his specialty, okay? -But they do have their problems. Mishima is nine years old, with low self-esteem, confidence issues and everything that hurts him feels like an arrow in the heart. So he's a little clingy with Adachi and trying to get his dad's attention and praise by 'being a good boi'. And Adachi can be a bit lax in his duties as a dad and little snide comments can slip out when he's overworked. Not to mention, the man has no concept of a healthy diet, only cabbages -cabbages are love. cabbages are life.  -but slowly mishi-babey comes out of his shell, little by little -the first time Mishima sasses Adachi genuinely suprises the older cop. Did the small, skinny kid just say that to him? Is this the same kid? -Yes. Yes it is. And, oh God, he has his dad's smirk -Adachi mellows a little at work. Apparently, being a hard-working dad is appealing to his superiors and as long as he behaves himself, he might get promoted. might. everybody at work annoys him.   -in fact everybody in the world annoys him -including his kid. but his kid is a kind of annoying that makes adachi smile and feel gross, warm, fuzzy things in his chest -six months are up and Mishima has to go back to his aunt n uncle -they don't say much when mishima leaves, quietly being herded into the fancy car his aunt has -his apartment is too quiet, too big after that - there's not much left of mishima. a drawing on the fridge, a picture of them at a festival, a detention slip mishima got for standing up for himself -the cabbage tastes like ash that night -wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, rinse, repeat -no singalong of the featherman theme in the car, adachi accidentally turns up at Yuuki's school instead of at work, and shit why is he worrying if Mishima took his inhaler with him? -adachi should be happy he doesn't have a kid to watch over. he's free to do as he pleases -Adachi lasts three days before driving to where mishima's aunt and uncle live to ask for full custody of his son
