since i'm falling back down the Undertale au rabbit hole, i figured i'd try my hand at designing human versions for all of the different sans variants!

I had a lot of fun trying to make them look distinct while making sure to make it look like it was the same guy, with the different hairstyles and slight variations to their faces (cross's face being a bit more defined than everyone elses, outer's being a bit rounder) let me know what I can improve on!

My Headcanon on “Alternate Multiverses”

This is a concept I’ve been sitting on for a good while now, so I thought I’d finally share it here.

This fandom has a lot of different concepts on multiversal variants, of both individual characters and whole AUs, and naturally over time this extended to the whole Multiverse itself. Namely with concepts like; what if the majority of universes were Fell or Swap variants? Usually as a way to alter the various Out!codes who don’t have their own universes (if you hc that there can only be One Of Each like me).

And that got me thinking, how would that concept even work? Are there different layers of super-reality that go even beyond the space between universes? Files within files within files? That could get confusing and convoluted really quickly.

So I came to a solution;

There is no such thing as “Alternate Multiverses” (sort of)

Let me explain.

See, it’s all one big plane of super-existence. Just One Multiverse.

BUT

There are various “sections” of it, each with their own local “group” of the most fundamental universes (your Underswaps, your Outertales, etc), and their own iterations of Ink, Error, Dream, Nightmare, etc.

The thing being that those “sections” are just SO FAR APART in distance, that travel between them is near impossible. And that distance is what allows for each of them to be so different.

Think like different cultures of bacteria in separate Petri dishes. They cultivate differently depending on the conditions you put them in, but all started with more or less of the same basic material, and they’re all on one table despite being far apart from one another.

For simplicity’s sake the different “sections” are still CALLED “Alternate Multiverses”, but they still all exist on the same plane.

Additionally they’re all connected to the same Doodlesphere, Void, and Anti-Void. There’s only one of all of those. Meaning you could THEORETICALLY end up in a different “multiverse” if you walked far enough in one direction in any of those places, but you’d have to be immortal to do so without dying of old age or hunger or thirst, and even THEN it’d take hundreds of millions, if not BILLIONS of years to get there.

So yes there are multiple Inks in the Doodlesphere and multiple Errors in the Anti-Void, they’re just, again, so far apart in distance that they’ve never met, nor will ever meet under normal circumstances.

There are multiple of the Original Undertale/Deltarune as well, purely because of the fact that there are literally multiple copies of the game(s).

Of course the shape as presented here isn’t LITERAL, just a visualization of how I interpret the concepts. For instance, the Void I see as the space between universes, and the Anti-Void is the absence of a universe. Like, a coalescence of empty “bubbles” where AUs once were.

The multiverse is pretty much non-Euclidean anyways.

that's so fair!!!! there's a lot missing with him because a lot of him was contained on ask error, which was shut down early, and then CQ made a post detailing what they remembered of the rest of the story

i want to apologize in advance, this is probably going to be a pretty long post -- i like being thorough and am very normal!

i will warn as well - a lot of it will be about pre-corrupted blueberror because there's a lot more information on him in that regard, but it has helped me a lot in writing his character or developing things for him in the future! especially as he doesn't seem so far off from his initial character in the way that error does

COOL WORLDBUILDING NOTES FIRST!!!

when becoming corrupted with what error and blueberror have, their last thoughts and emotional intention before corruption entirely influence how dangerous they become. which renders blueberror pretty harmless.

(and to also further blueberror's morals in his own words, here are some instances of them - "do you hate error for what he did?" "you've really got to be hurting" the dilemma of absorbing a soul for freedom and the temptation to. the intentions of becoming friends

the morals are probably one of the most important pieces, i would recommend clicking through those!

those in the antivoid long enough gain access to 'the voices.' 1. all errors have this ability 2. blue gains this before appearing physically corrupted. i like to think that this is because corruption is actually a slow process that gets worse with further exposure

corruption also alters both mental and physical states. (in the question, "what would happen if they were reverted?") one instance in error's case is a worsening memory of the people in his past life. whether or not this applies to berror, i'm not sure

glitching is also extremely uncomfortable for those corrupted. here's some more specific details on it, i take it that the same rules apply to blueberror too!

anyone can do the string thing! nonspecific to error :)

THE OTHER STUFF

blueberror is well intentioned but out of touch and "definitely kinda wacky" as described in the last post mentioning him on the blog.

while it isn't canonically confirmed by CQ (afaik), blueberror is written in fatal's comic with a fear surrounding abandonment (which i like a lot!!), desperate to keep any sort of company. which i think lines up pretty well with the current blueberror, as he has always been very offput by the sudden silence, not wanting to scare other people, and having possibly attempted to hug error out of excitement in a comic made by another artist, called canon by CQ in the retweets.

it's also very likely that blueberry came from a genocide timeline before being taken by error, as shown in this and mentioned by another asker, whose question was answered vague.

there's a lot to blueberry before the berror, i would definetly recommend giving ask-error a read through for information before that (or i could follow up with some more on pre-corruption if you're looking for it!) (safe to say though that this guy has a lot of trauma that i personally would write to influence him current day)

for now though, i'll stick with things that i think are relevant to current berror

blue was initially taken after the mention that error may "just need someone to talk to" during his forced 'final battle' with his brother. when actually taken, blue calls for help. this may have been a bluff on his end to buy more time, or it may have been genuine and the circumstances were strange. up to interpretation i think, but i teeter towards genuine with the whole papyrus characteristics thing

(and in a side tangent, stretch also implies that he would euthanize his brother for suffering this much as well?? he says this right in front of blue. do with that information what you will)

at the first show of there being other timelines, blueberry also becomes overwhelmed and breaks down crying in front of error. error attempts to comfort him in his own strange way, crashes, and blue starts laughing.

blue also pretty quickly becomes desensitized to these new things, not just the timeline occurrences. enough to become curious enough to ask about things and comment on them being pretty cool

(blueberror could also be the same one from CPAU! it's not confirmed or denied as a canon thing, but here's that in case it's something you want to mess with!)

blueberror also knows how to knit! he teaches error how to :). they also go on to bond over undernovella, and occasionally watching some of error's "stories."

and while not confirmed as canon, CQ commented on liking the theory that error may be using blue to fill in the gap of the loss of his own brother and emotional turmoil over it.

(i like to think that due to the trauma and isolation that both of them face, they were co-dependent on each other for a short period of time. this is relatively contradictory to the story however)

blue's total isolation starts when he asks to step out of a personal story time of error's. this results in: 1. error springing into accusing him of faking his kindness 2. blue briefly being hurt by it, only to spin off into another confident spiel where error releases blue's timeline's humans soul 3. error leaving, proclaiming that he will only come back when blue begs him to.

blue reveals that he wasn't always going to stay and was manipulating him for survival, but still fully intended on helping him.

and error, in turn, is very hurt by this, especially as he considered them friends.

blue immediately attempts to find a way out, only to slowly be broken down by the hopelessness of this increasingly dire situation. he even resorts to yelling at the human soul, to no response. the only voice he hears in a long time is when he suddenly becomes available for questions, to which he is immediately overwhelmed by (second link). slow corruption process begins and it's not long before he begs error to come back.

errors are not very stable both emotionally and physically. blue's first instance of not feeling right is his anger filled emotional outburst towards the soul, resulting in him stomping on it. he acknowledges this out loud, continuously apologizing to it.

and then it ends, with this being a final post about blueberror, including a lot more information about him! including an attempt on error's life once error comes back

MY CONCLUSION

in short, i believe blueberror retains a lot of the kind qualities of his former self. he may be misguided in how he attempts to reach his end goals, but plays his cards smart. he struggles with the sudden dip into isolation and has difficulty regulating his emotions and is uncomfortable with these ranging in violence outbursts. these angry outbursts are much more tame once he separates himself from error. he is very social. he also appears insecure, especially of his appearance, desperate to not scare people off

i personally write blueberror as pretty anxious, though headstrong and kind. his stability comes from the stability of those around him and he ends up being relatively dependent on those he manages to get close to. he struggles with the new image of himself but grows into accepting himself and helps himself heal by providing safety to others in a way that he didn't have himself. i also write him to struggle reading ques socially and still being pretty detached, occasionally slipping into seeing himself as "outside" or far from everyone else

So I had this idea for an UNDERSWAP take on UNDERTALE Yellow called "UNDERSWAP Cyan," which also swaps where the humans died and has the child of patience (cyan soul) as the 7th human to fall into the underground (falls before Chara). This human would have an eastern theme like Ceroba, contrasting Clover's western theme. This would also be true of this world's variant of The Dunes.

Their name is Blossom.

Currently trying to think of swaps for the other UTY-based characters, but I'm basing everything off of TS!UNDERSWAP. I'll figure it out at some point.

I have been revamping a lot of my old initial designs and giving them nicknames to help differentiate from other timelines/AUs.

I don't always refer to them like that to y'all cuz I worry it'll get confusing. ( ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ ) But if you wanna know I'll make a list (〃∀〃)ゞ

OG Sans and Papyrus do not have different names. Underswap: Blue and Stretch Underfell: Big Red and Baus Farmtale: Ju-an (Sans) and Tae-joon (Papyrus) Swapfell: Boysen and Crust Uncorrupted Nightmare AU: Haze (Passive Nightmare) and Cor (Evil entity Nightmare), Lumin (Dream) Dreamtwins/Badtime trio AU*: Roshan (Dream) and Samir (Nightmare)

Erm, the bad time trio do not have nicknames yet (´ ͡༎ຶ ͜ʖ ͡༎ຶ `) I didn't give them nicknames because all three are with Motti. I haven't branched out yet to give each guys their own Motti/world.

*These names I refer across timelines/AUs not associated with my Uncorrupted Nightmare AU because Cor is the biggest POS imaginable. I don't want Samir to be mistaken for being the same disposition as Cor. fdnlksvn

Are there, like, more Undertales in the multiverse?

If you mean more universes like alternate timelines of Classic's universe, yes! They typically are variants of a mix of genocidal, pacifist, and neutral routes (Classic's universe is a huge anomaly among these various endings). However, none of them have had interactions with the multiverse.

Classic is the first among the 'Undertale' variant universes to link with the multiverse.

-> One mechanic for STTMH is that the links that form between universes need to form in order- i.e. for each kind of universe, the first that connects is the 'parent' of all the others.

For example, for Underswap, Swap's universe was the first to link, therefore it is the 'canon' version of the universe or the 'first' version- whichever you wish to call it (please note this does not mean it full abides by its original canon lore- I am only comparing it to the word 'canon')

Maybe in this multiverse Underswap is basically the original Universe and Undertale is just the au of it, in which case I guess it makes sense for why Swap cross does act like swap sans..

Bingo! You got it right, the original au of Inverted IS underswap, but it's NOT that simple.

Tbh I didn't know the original Xtale sans was based on a swap sans, since, in xtale I, he was just like a normal sans

But it's only on Xtale II however that he appears more Swap like, and tbh I understand why ppl think that bc this is the first time he appears on fullscreen.

And also, sans doesn't appear on xtale III which IS odd.

from now on sans only appears in xtale IV, and he doesn't seem to have the same personality as swap so that's why I just didn't think he was based on a swap sans AND he doesn't have the swap scarf. And then in the next episode he's turning into the Cross we know.

Maybe in xtale II XGaster was just testing design ideas??? since the next episode is about underswap, that's just my little theory tho

Xtale IX, X and X-controlled is too much spoilers of which idk if the internet is ready for it, so i'll keep it down for now, that's why I've said before, X-swap got it's own thing going on and deserves a whole spin-off, it disconnects from the Invertedverse completly until timeline X all the way to the X-event
