S2 Arcane Spoiler/You Probably shouldn't be on these Tags if you haven't seen it yet
GRAND UNIFIED BUNNY THEORY (actual serious analysis) | ARCANE The Theory in the video tracks with S2, Isha wears Bunny ears and helps Jinx overcome her refusal of the call and accept the title of 'Zaun's big fat Hero' alongside Ekko who helps Jinx overcome her Suicidal ideation and helps make a Hot Air Balloon with Bunny Ears on it. Ekko also wears a Bunny Eared Hood in his LoL Arcane Skin (Ekkos Last Stand) though he wears his red scarf in the Show. Jinx' Shark Hood also takes on new meanings: Sharks can Regrow their teeth after they break off - Jinx has regrown her 'teeth' and decided to fight in the War, once again being an active Predator instead of in Hiding like Prey (Bunny). Sharks have to keep Swimming to Stay alive - Jinx has decided to keep swimming. At the start of S2 Jinx wears a Hood to hide her Hair but with the Shark Hood uses her Hair to give the affect of a long tongue coming out of the sharks mouth, having found a way to bring them together to make something new. This idea of bringing things together to make something new is not only continued in Jinx's new Weapon being Rhino, a combination of all her other Weapons, but also in the Air Balloon having Bunny Ears Painted on them which shows Jinx is being both a Predator and Prey. (also homage to Isha) She is joining the fight while also planning to run away and ending the cycle. She has always had the traits of causing massive damage while still being quick and agile but trouble with when to use which: Blowing up the Council when she could've ran away, Choosing to fight Warwick in Stillwater instead of Running (Contentious, it turned out to be the right choice but if she ran she wouldn't've had to fight him since he would have stopped at Singed's Cell), Only Dodging while fighting Rictus instead of taking him out. Isha also does this: Running after interrupting Rictus beating up a random Jinxer (Good idea), Jumping directly on top of Rictus to beat him up instead of gettigtfo. Jinx in said fight with Rictus as well as her sisterly spat in the Mines gets pulled back by her long-ass braids. Her Hair is a weakness in a fight and represents her holding onto the past (emotional weakness). Ekko, who has let go of the past while also letting it guide his present/future actions, helps cut her hair for her final fight (which I'm guessing is shown in the 60 mins of cut footage (either way it's my headcanon)). Teaching the lesson he learned to Jinx while ridding her of weakness right before they paint each others bodies to represent... Timebomb being canon I guess.

Headcanons/Thoughts about a Fem!WWX/ Yiling Matriarch AU
If Wei Ying is a woman, then so is Jiang Cheng. I don't make the rules.
That means someone else has to be the heir, so obviously Jiang Yanli is a man in this universe. The dynamic doesn't change much (shige is just as caring and just as good at making soup and parenting his menaces as shijie was, a'Ying is just as chaotic and a free spirit as a'Xian and a'Cheng is still angry and jealous and prickly) but it does a tiny bit, because a male Jiang Yanli has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders and a female Jiang Cheng as a bit less of it, because she isn't the heir (but she's still her mother's daughter, so...only a bit.) Jiang Yanli has eldest daughter syndrome in any universe.
Madam Yu is a tiny bit less hostile than in canon, because yeah, she still thinks that girl is her husband's bastard, but even if she was recognized Wei Ying couldn't be a threat to the position of Madam Yu's son. So she's still pissed, but a tiny bit less.
Jin Zixuan is a woman and has three younger sisters. Why? Because a male heir was needed and her parents had to keep trying. Unfortunatly Jin Guangshan seems incapeable of having legitimate sons. (Meng Yao is still male. And Qin Su is male too, for hilarity's sake. - all of Jin Guangshan's bastards are sons and two of them are older than his eldest legitimate daughter.) That makes Jin Zixun the heir to Lanling Jin.
Nie Mingjue is a woman. She runs the Nie Clan with an iron fist, officially as her brother's regent. A lady of war, brandishing a blade red like the blood it has spilled. (Her brother doesn't want to inherit. He wants to lounge around like a wet blanket and paint dainty things forever! Why couldn't he have been born a younger sister to an older brother, he laments to his friends. Embroidery and accounting and getting married off far away from where he has to do saber practice every day sounds like a dream actually! "Poor a'Sang! You would have been such a good little sister!", Wei Ying coos dramatically. "Suck it up, Huaisang.", Jiang Cheng grumbles, "And don't you dare cry into my robes, that's silk you fucking heathen.")
Lan Xichen is the heir to Gusu Lan. He loves his little sister dearly and would do just about everything to ensure her hapiness. Yes, even argue with the clan elders. Just a tiny bit. His aunt is completely done with his behaviour. (Not that she's any better.)
Acting Sect Leader of the Gusu Lan is Teacher Lan, the Sect Leader's younger sister. Yes, Fem!Lan Qiren. Sue me. It's mostly because the Lan seperate male and female students, and for me that means that there must also be a division between male and female teachers. So to teach Wei Ying and hate her on sight Lan Qiren has to be a woman. Sorry, not sorry.
Lan Zhan is the first daughter and second child of the Lan Clan main family line. Nothing really changes about her other than her adopting a'Yuan causing a much larger scandal (because unmarried woman suddenly has a child is much worse than unmarried man suddenly has a child, duh).
Nie Huaisang befriends the Lotus Pier girls when Wei Ying sneaks into the men's part of the Cloud Recesses one night out of curiosity and runs into him while he's being a tortured artist (read: drawing filthy porn outside by flickering candlelight because his roommates are asleep).
After the destruction of Lotus Pier Jin Guangshan offers the Jiang support - if Jiang Yanli marries into the Jin Clan, effectively making Yunmeng Jiang a part of the Jin sect. The marriage happens, but Jiang Cheng takes over as Leader of Lotus Pier to keep it independent. (Nie Huaisang volunteers to marry into her family and support her because he's turning twenty soon and he really doesn't want to be sect leader. His a'Jie vetoes it.)
Jin Guangshan marries one of his daughters to a male Qin Su, knowing full well that the boy might be his son. The newly named Jin Guangyao is in charge of wedding preparations. He is the one Madam Qin tells to stop the wedding. Obviously he doesn't.
Mo Xuanyu is still a man (very short from malnorishment and with a very feminine face, but still a man) . He apologizes for that fact quite a lot in his notes when he offers his body to the Yiling Matriarch.
The Junior Quartet consists of a Lan boy, a Lan girl who doesn't give a flying fuck about the fact that the rules say she should be on an all girls team, the heir to Lanling Jin and the heir to Baling Ouyang.

normal thing to say about your dear friend who you think is really cute and charming and hard-working and basically the perfect wife material
#hamefura#my next life as a villainess#otome game no hametsu flag#aaand rewatch done! now my honest thoughts#good start. the middle is kinda boring. ep 8 doesn't exist don't worry about it#this anime draws me in in the same way that Futari Wa does#in that it has a fascinating main cast and a very vague skeleton of a worldbuilding that leaves me wanting to overthink it#unstructured thoughts incoming:#Geordo's still a creep and no matter how much the story wants me to like him I just can't#Keith's siscon is very Yikes! and that's so bad because I love his and Katarina's relationship as siblings#Katarina lowkey thinks Sophia is a freak but never kinkshames her and that's so bestiecore of her. they're soulmates your honor#Mary is SUCH A LESBIAN holy shit. I did not remember how much lesbian she is#I'm lowkey annoyed that the show frames her attraction to Katarina as “haha funny isn't she weird?!”#like in the sleepover episode she was describing the things she'd like to do with her beloved and she's being like. normal about it#but the soundtrack does a silly and I'm like. wow this anime does not like her huh#I swear Geordo and Keith are even weirder about Katarina than she is but the anime always gives them slack about it#unless they're having their homoerotic squabbles. which is to say the anime does Not Like The Queer Coding of the story#I'm sure there are worse examples of weeb homophobia but there are a couple moments I saw in the manga but not here!#anyway where was I. Oh right. Ascart Sibs Autusm 👍🏼#Nicol doesn't have much presence in the story due to his quiet nature which is so sad because his inner world is intriguing#he's such a good friend. loyal and caring. I wish we got more of him in this season#and finally: Maria. God. what is there to say about her that I haven't already#the girl came in with a 7 year disadvantage on her rivals and yet Katarina is all over her!#rewatching season 1 is so weird because I could swear she had more presence than she really does because holy shit#Katarina loves her! so much! wtf#maybe I'm remembering season 2?#anyway these are my thoughts on doomflags season 1#2nd watch edition#oh I almost forgot#romance in chiaroscuro

i implore you to yell about yellowjackets it would make me happy
Hi Syd!! Thank you thank you thank you for this ask!! I have become so consumingly obsessed with this show, and I am very excited to yell about it!! Also thank you for your patience since it took me a full week to actually get around to this.
Okay this is pretty much just going to be a ramble about my overall thoughts.
I had being seeing posts about the show for years, but I never paid too much attention to them. I knew since the show came out that I wanted to watch it eventually. It was just a matter of actually getting around to it. (Which I'm notorious for saying.) I knew it had cannibalism and lesbianism, and obviously both of those things appealed to me.
I did make sure I wasn't seeing any posts about the show while actively watching. I wanted to avoid all spoilers, and that definitely made the experience a very personal one. I wasn't subjected to any outside opinions or theories until after I caught up with the most recent episode. I thoroughly enjoyed being in my own bubble in terms of opinions. I am grateful for the wealth of fan content for the show, but I don't really care to get too involved with how other people are interpreting things. (Besides Ella. Hi Ella if you see this. I love everything you ponder and comment about the show.)
The thing that shocked me most when first seeing online fan opinions was that people seem very divided on Shauna. I want to make this very clear. I LOVE HER. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss. I support women's rights and women's wrongs. Bloody, murderous Melanie Lynskey is an actual goddess. So damn hot. Melanie and Sophie Nélisse are incredibly talented actresses, and it is an honor to have them grace my screen.
I really enjoy all of the characters. Everyone is layered and complex. They all have very full, distinct personalities. It is too rare to see a cast of developed female characters, and I am so happy to see them here. I feel so much sympathy for all of these characters, but I also love that they're not purely sympathetic. They've done bad things. They've had negative intentions and selfish motivations. They're full of rage and grief and passion. They went through this incredibly traumatic thing together, but they all have different ways of coping that make sense for their unique personalities.
I'm so happy that there's canon lesbians in the show!!!!!!! I'm so used to crumbs and subtext. Seeing women kiss, engage in actual relationships, and be intimate on-screen is so beautiful. Van and Tai make my heart soar!!!!!!! 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 The fact that the actors who play the teen versions of the characters (and the actress who is adult Tai) are openly queer in real life makes it even more wonderful. I love queer people playing queer characters. Representation on and off screen is so important and meaningful to me.
Also the cast is extremely attractive. Like omg why are all of them so hot??!?!?!?! I'm in love with Sophie Thatcher. And Courtney Eaton. And Liv Hewson. And honestly literally all of the cast. They're also just all such good actors.
I will now briefly talk about the men. As a person who loves and hates and loves Pretty Little Liars, it is so fun that Coach Ben is played by the actor who was Emily's ex boyfriend Ben on PLL. I don't like his PLL character, but it's still funny that Steven Krueger plays guys named Ben in both of the things I've seen him in. (Spoiler) I'm really sad Coach Ben died. I felt really sad for him. It was clear he completely didn't know how to deal with the situation they were in. He was depressed about losing his leg. He didn't have any authority over the girls anymore, and he was an outsider to them in a few ways. Also he was justified in being freaked out by the cult behavior and cannibalism. Even though it is understandable why the girls turned to that stuff, I don't think it was wrong of him to be worried about his safety. Everyone on the show is tragic, but I do feel really bad about him. Also rip to another gay character.
I also have so many feelings about Travis. I am devastated about how he died. I really wish we got to see more (or really any) of him in the adult timeline. His relationship to the girls is unique due to him also being an outsider but working to fit in. He's a guy and not a member of the team, but he finds his role, eventually joins in on the cult religion, and becomes one of them in a way the coach never did. My heart really broke for him when Javi died. Sibling tragedies in media always get to me. Travis' relationship with the cult religion also fascinates me. He clearly believes it to an extent, but he isn't fully committed. (He indulged Lottie for a time, but then pawned off his visionary role to Akilah and tried to kill Lottie.) The fact that he tried to return to self harm as a means of interacting with the religion again as an adult becomes more upsetting as his teen character develops in the show. When his death happened, I was distraught for Natalie. I didn't really mourn Travis at that point. Now, I think it's so sad watching his teen self fight for survival knowing the fate that will befall him. He will never truly escape the wilderness. None of them will. Also Kevin Alves is great in No Good Deed! It took me a while to realize where I recognized him from, but he's a good actor and that's another good show!
Oh god I feel like I should do a paragraph about my thoughts and feelings on all the women too, but this is going to be essay length if I do that 😭😭. I have so much to say on all of them 😭😭. I'm so curious to see what truly happened to Lottie. I need Shauna to either kill Melissa or have an intense, passionate, toxic makeout session. (Or both. Teen Melissa kissing Shauna when she had a knife against her throat was so hot.) I'm proud of Misty for standing up for herself against Shauna, but also omg I can't have them fighting right now. 😭 Everyone is dying off. I need the alive people to be okay with each other. I already know I'm not going to handle Taissa's reaction to Van's death well. I am beyond upset about Van's death.
Okay I don't have time to talk about each woman individually, so maybe another time. I'm going to talk about a few scenes. The music on the show is great! I love the vibes, and I love how they time the musical moments. Jeff playing Last Resort after finding out about Shauna's affair was priceless. Him playing F*** Tha Police outside the police station was perfect. Nookie playing while Shauna lost control of her car and nearly drove over people in a park was hilarious. The show is quite stressful and emotional, but there's some great comedy woven throughout. That being said, the scenes around Shauna's labor were some of the toughest things I've ever had to watch on television. Sophie Nélisse deserves all of the awards. I was balling my eyes out and had to stop to collect myself. I still tear up thinking about how haunting it was to hear her ask why they couldn't hear the baby crying. Even without all of the other traumas she faced (I don't even know how to begin talking about Jackie's death), that instance alone makes me forgive her for any behavior afterwards. I can't even fathom. She can have a little insanity, rage, and murder as a treat. It's fine. It's all fine.
I think I need to find like a set of questions from a fandom ask game or something so I can have structure to what I'm talking about lol. I feel like I have one million things to say, and even after this ramble there's still so much to say. I might add onto this later and go character by character lol. I need to go have dinner now 😭.
Thank you again for asking, Syd!!!!! I am grateful for you. I truly have not stopped thinking about this show all week. I can't believe it took me so long to get around to it, but binging it in three days was such an amazing experience. I already feel the need to rewatch it so I can catch every detail I might have missed.
#I can't believe the season is ending on Friday 😭#I feel like I wrote so much but also said nothing!?!?! I am not good at providing unstructured thoughts#I want to write an essay length amount of thoughts and feelings for literally every character#if I had more time I'd do a rewatch and do a write up for literally every episode. wait I actually might.#I should've done that on first watch to document my reactions but I was so eager to get to the next episode at the end of every episode#who wants to watch the show with me and yap lol#thank you again Syd!!#asks#syd#edit: omg this is over 1.4k words 😱

Nightow was so cruel for The Couch. I mean, yeah for the obvious reasons, but also like... a couch is supposed to be a place of comfort. It's an entirely domestic item, where you're likely to spend some of the most time with your loved ones. Not exactly a dramatic set piece (like, say, the floor of a church). And Nightow saw this and said "time to do violence against my readers 🔪🔪🔪." But I'm mad bc like he's right. Wolfwood is such a dramatic character from his backstory to his very character design (Punisher isn't exactly subtle) but he never really asked for that. He deserves a moment of quiet comfort after the absolute ringer he's been through his entire life. Thus, The Couch. The person closest to him sitting beside him. A few simple words exchanged and "welcome home." Wolfwood gets just a taste of that quiet, simple domestic life he craved but never was allowed. LIKE NIGHTOW. WTF MAN. JUST--

#trigun#trimax spoilers#sorry im having unstructured thoughts about trigun on main again 🤪#this manga got me overthinking a couch so hard i explode but what else is new

i think AI can be hugely helpful in certain fields (like, for instance, scientific discovery) when it's done right, but we (scientists) have a moral obligation to make sure our AI-based tools are actually doing what they're supposed to do, but if all else fails we can just gleefully watch one of our professors evicerate the latest AI-based tool on twitter until the programmers get their shit together and fix it
#there's a program called alphafold for which the latest update has been HOUNDED with issues#mainly borne of capitalism and greed on the part of the company that owns the rights to it#but also it KEEPS modeling unstructured regions of proteins as entirely fictional helices. for like. no reason#like girl???? what are you doing?????#i thought i was going insane until i saw my professor tweet about it lmao#that's science drama kids#disclaimer i do think AF is an incredible feat of programming and i will continue to use it (and take its results with a grain of salt)#but this has been very entertaining

this is another "theorizing despite knowing nothing" type post but I've been wondering why the ninja cats didn't have some alternate version to their perception to sorawo's eye
my original thoughts on the ninja cats is it was something along the lines of their story being much more widely perceived as just being cats, or were they real animals that had become 4th kinds?
like I'm of the opinion that sorawo's very much only shifting her own perception of reality rather than seeing any Truth, but. is it based on what kozakura was talking about with the otherside and how it seems to be actively trying to make you afraid?
if I had to put my thoughts to paper it'd be that the connection to the kunekune and its perspective abilities allow her to rewire the channels in her brain to avoid things that cause her terror, effectively bypassing the fear rather than confronting it
so perhaps the reason why the ninja cats look like ninja cats to her right eye is because she really doesn't find that concept scary? as opposed to the concept of dealing with other people like the time-space man, which she bypasses by avoiding thinking about them as human?
im sure im missing something, but, how does that eye even really work?
what was up with the cat city
can anyone hear me

i gotta know! because your character and your take on him are so unique! what ideas do you have about supernatural and where he'd fit in that world? care for a little headcanoning going on? cause i gotta see this. i'm intrigued!
as it so happens, dear new friend, i do have an ancient spn verse that i can make an attempt at blowing the cobwebs off of. although i'm going to preface all of this with the fact i haven't watched spn in quite a long time; i had my old verse for ash back in 2014, so some of the details have gotten a little foggy (both for the verse itself and for canon spn lore—i am LONG overdue a rewatch!) but i'll do my best to recount what i can for you. :)
if i recall correctly, ash's spn verse story is prefaced by the death of his father—a hunter that lived somewhere near the southwest us/mexico border at the time and originally hailed from mexico. i believe he and his wife/son were settled in arizona, but i could be wrong (details schmetails). anyway, one night ash's pops is off out on a local hunt; a scheduled descent of tzitzimimeh from the stars—skeletal demons of aztec mythology that are said to compose the stars at night. this shouldn't have been too much of a trial on paper, and yet the man is bested by the swarm. UNFORTUNATELY, the man's ever curious and wayward son snuck out of the house to follow him that night and found his father's body, with tzitzimimeh still on the prowl in the dark. but those weren't the only otherworldly entities slinking around the badland steppe, something else was stalking. it wasn't stalking for humans, though—it was stalking for the tzitzimimeh. the benevolent yet formless essence of the god quetzalcoatl pursued the demons, and found the devastated child in dire need of care and protection. quetzalcoatl, unlike many other primordial/progenitor gods, is of utmost benevolence. seldom partaking in their flesh or their sacrifice, it regards and holds humanity, all life on earth, with a fondest love known only to great mothers. and it aches for the child, yearns to help. it also keens for a vessel. in its nebulous form of abstract light, its powers are minimal, but with material hands... maybe not so much. maybe there is something it could do for the boy. what if it gave the boy the chance to correct this mortal wrong someday? how could he say no? two or three decades later, the boy has gotten old, bones burning with a latent primordial power the god is only too gracious to temper; his body does not deform or decay before quetzalcoatl's brilliant grace, for it sleeps somewhere within, at peace until it is needed for its own agenda against fouler gods. with time, it has become inextricably entangled with ash's soul—he could no longer tell you where he ends and the blessed serpent begins. goes without saying that this precarious union afford ash some very unique and powerful gifts... well, in exchange for a great glowing target on his back. tale as old as time, yes? either way, he carries on his father's livelihood and has worked long and hard as a hunter himself, albeit a hunter with significant advantages (not that this has gotten him all that close to avenging his father) — he likely specialises in cryptids and supernatural animals/creatures. back in 2014, i think i had it down that his mother was also dead, but? idk i will probably change that. i might change the whole thing! who knows? but this is what i have for the moment. tysm for asking, dixon! :D it was fun getting to ponder this again after so long on the shelf. 🙇♀️
#▸ lord rid me of my word vomit. / ooc#safetypinned#under a readmore just for tidiness' sake#thoughts are a little unstructured and jumbled but i hope this covers the basic gist! i'm sure it was way more detailed 10 years ago#but 10 years is also a long time OTL may be due for an overhaul after i've rewatched spn :3c#ash's main universe mythos/meta is loosely derived from gnostic cosmology these days. so maybe spn verse 2.0 will follow suit. we'll see!

Usually not much can be said about the character design in Kinnikuman. But in the case of The Man and The One, the contrast between their designs is top-notch. 10/10.
The most obvious contrast is between their attires. The Man was designed to resemble the Ancient Greek god Zeus, and the Greek influence can primarily be seen in the golden laurel wreath that's a part of his helmet and the white toga. The golden helmet, jewelry as well as his cape fittingly give him a regal appearance, as Zeus was regarded to be the king of the gods of Mount Olympus. It overall results in a Western style.
The One on the other hand was specifically designed to have a more threatening aura than even Shogun, and his spiked armor accomplishes just that. His armor resembles those of the samurai and generals of feudal Japan, with his helmet looking nearly identical to the kabuto-type helmet, of which some tended to be adorned with horns. His style comes across as martial and Eastern, accentuated by the war fan he wields.
Partially as a result of their attires, their silhouettes on their own also contrast one another: The Man's form is wider and shorter with rounded edges, The One is a bit slimmer and taller, with his silhouette being edgier due to the spikes and horns sticking out.
There's also the colors. The Man's palette consists of the saturated primary colors pink, yellow, blue plus white. Meanwhile The One's colors are much paler and desaturated, with only monochromatic shades of red. His bright red eyes are the most saturated part of him, corresponding to The Man's blue ones.
Even their names contrast each other. The God of Harmony giving himself the name "The One" with his descent makes it feel like he's further reinforcing the binary between the two of them when comparing it to The God of Mercy's group-based title "Perfect Zero". The Japanese spelling of their name are only one kana off from each other too, "Za Wan" (ザ・ワン) vs. "Za Man" (ザ・マン).
When you look at the way The One used to look when he was first submitted as Hermoz, it all feels like very deliberate choices. Personally I would've preferred it if they had kept the asymmetrical helmet and horns, but it might have been unbefitting for a choushin design, being perfect beings and all.
The dynamic these two have is also great. I hope we get to see these old men bicker some more over the course of the story. They're defined by having opposite views on the matter of choujin: It was The Man who suggested the creation of the choujin race to fill the 108th god seat back in heaven and held up his hope in them, descending in order to save and train them himself, when The One gave up on the choujin almost immediately and lead the group of gods who advocated for their erasure.
This is also reflected in how they see themselves, and by extent the rest of the gods who descended: The One regards himself to be a choushin on the same level as the other gods, but The Man only ever calls himself a choujin, seeing himself as an equal to the mortal choujin, despite both him and The One being ex-gods.
The Gordian Knot metaphor lays out their differing views the best. The Man patiently attempted to untie the knot with his own hands, making more progress than any of the other gods, but The One chose to simply cut the un-untieable knot in half with his fan. It's similar to how he used the Capillaria Rays as a tool to eradicate the majority of choujin, a bold and drastic solution for their constant infighting that shows his contempt for them. Nowadays, The Man's approach to handling the choujin in the form of directly teaching them over a long course of time is starting to be seen as the right decision, with him believing that choujin have resolved the issue and have grown on their own.
This does not mean that The One's unconventional way of problem-solving is wrong, as his reformation plan to redefine what it means to be a choujin and demote the unqualified to human status in order to equilibrize the universal energy imbalance doesn't feel all that unreasonable considering the direness of the situation. Whether it is his idea or The Man's idea of effectively using the circulatory Friendship Power system that will be realized we'll have to see.
Everything about them is coming together so well and I can't wait to see how their plans for fighting back against the God of Time's forces are going to work out.

Finished Frieren just now (instead of getting any work done). It's actually a pretty good anime. I feel like people are expecting too much from it, but if you don't treat it as something high-brow and revolutionary, it's pretty fun. And, well, if you don't mind how understated it is. It's almost jarring to see anime characters be so outwardly calm. Might even look boring to some. To me, it was alright. I like the tone, it's almost meditative, though there are more tense and even exciting moments. I liked it well enough aesthetically. Can't help but mention that some of the clothing designs were really weird. Kanne, I think, that water mage... Why was she dressed like that? I also remember a bunch of background/minor characters with weird costumes that didn't seem neither practical nor even good-looking. This kind of soured the general impression, but most costumes are fairly good. My main complaint is probably how much characters talk about their personal philosophies. I get it, it's supposed to give you insight into the way they act, but it's usually a bit annoying. Himmel was unbearable for me. He just shows up in flashbacks, says #deep stuff and smiles to look all nonchalant. Though it was a bit interesting to hear the exam takers out, since it gave insight into their casting and fighting styles, at least, and, therefore, into how magic works in this show. But either way, it felt... Excessive? I don't know. The only one I really did find interesting is Ubel, though I can't help but feel that her approach simply cannot be so rare that it surprises and scares people. There's no way nobody's just figured out that being extremely abmitious works out. Whatever. I do like the concept, though. The other things I disliked were kind of minor... I really didn't like how game-y some of the worldbuilding was - adventuring parties or whatever are understandable, more or less, but when dungeons with bosses got introduced and were specifically referred to as "dungeon" and "boss" (literally ダンジョン and ボス in japanese, i was watching it raw), it felt a bit contrived. It's kind of hard to suspend your disbelief for this. Another thing I disliked were Fern and Stark's quarrels. Stereotypical boy-girl vaguely romantic petty fighting stuff. It was certainly made better by how they weren't screaming and jumping around with exaggerated expressions, but makes the two seem so unlikeable! Maybe it was to humanize them or something. Whatever. I'd say, among with the worldbuilding, it's really a matter of taste, even if I really disagree with it. It's not an objective failure, just a choice I dislike. Not gonna mention the naming. Gonna pretend I don't know any german. (Actually, it's just a bit funny)
Anyway, back to watching weird old stuff. I'm currently watching Maze ☆ Bakunetsu Jikuu. That sure as hell isn't calm and contemplative. MAZE IN NULL SPACE!
