Afterimage - a Fiddlestan Fanfic

Chapter 10

Fiddleford’s mind was a hard blank as he rummaged through the glove compartment of his beat-up old station wagon. He felt objects hit his fingers— spare wrench, rubber band ball, random bolts, broken cubic’s cube pieces—until they knocked against a battered paper box and a plastic tube. His body took itself to sit on the edge of the porch, and he was only distantly aware of its motions: hands to putting flame to cylinder, chest expanding, mouth blowing smoke out of lungs.

He heard the door behind him but didn’t turn to look. His eyes stayed fixed on the distant forest horizon.

Eventually he saw an open hand come into his field of vision in the universal language of beckoning to bum a cig. He handed it over and felt Stan’s body lower down next to his. They sat there side-by-side, legs dangling off the porch ledge, as the silence stretched between them until Stan spoke.

“Probably should’ve known better than to be like that about one of your dreams. …Sorry.”

Fiddleford watched the ash gathering on the tip of his cigarette.

“S’pose I should’nt’ve said I was fine,” he finally admitted in a mutter.

He flicked the ash hard into the dirt. He could feel Stan looking at him, and rubbed his thumb uncomfortably on the pale stripe of skin at the base of his finger. When he noticed what he was doing he switched his cigarette to his left hand and took a hasty pull from it.

“Where is he?”

It didn’t sound like Stan had meant it as an accusation, but Fiddleford's fingers went tight around the cigarette all the same. He couldn’t help it.

“Palo Alto.”

He stubbed the cigarette out forcefully on the porch, heedless of the damage to the wood. Stan didn’t say anything. Fiddleford fumbled another cigarette from the carton and lit it clumsily, then pulled on it as though the smoke could drown out his thoughts.

“So, uh…” Stan tried, “why are—I mean, that is—what’s keeping…” Stan didn’t finish his sentence. Fiddleford was glad. He glared down at his cigerette.

“Fucked it all up,” he muttered so low that he half-hoped Stan wouldn’t be able to hear him. “Wife won’ even let me talk to 'im. …Says I scare him now. That I’m a ‘bad influence.’ M’not welcome back there no more.”

The word wife hung heavy in the air between them, but again to Fiddleford’s relief, Stan didn’t comment. Instead, he felt Stan’s hand wrap around his quietly. He gratefully intertwined his fingers with Stan’s.

“The hell does she know,” Stan murmured.

Fiddleford stared into the dirt. “Enough,” he answered frankly.

Out of his peripheral vision he could see Stan watching him, questions and comments building up behind his face. Stan was always so obvious about that kind of thing; Fiddleford usually loved that about him.

“Bullshit.”

He looked up at Stan and saw his face was hard with resolve.

“Sorry, but I refuse to believe that you could be a bad influence in your son’s life. In any kid’s life, but especially your own kid’s life.”

Fiddleford stared into those gold-brown eyes. How badly he wished he could believe it like Stan did, with that unflinching conviction Fiddleford saw there. The ugly reality still was that Stan hadn’t known him for very long.

Might as well reblog this so people can see. Hi, I don't usually do talking on this account because that's what my other account is for, but whatever... My RedBubble account got suspended. Why? I DON'T KNOW!! Most likely thing they could get me for is spam, but I've only uploaded four images to their website after a break. I've sent them an appeal already, and I'm hoping for the best here. ...oh yeah I had a redbubble uhhhhhh..... whoops forgot to say that. :L

Update: Where I’ve been

Okay so this post is gonna be just a quick update on where I’ve been considering that I haven’t posted in a very long time.

So the reason I’ve been inactive for so long is that I just lost the motivation to post anything, I’ve also been dealing with a lot of personal things that I’m not comfortable going into, one of the main reasons is that I’ve just kind of drifted from the beetlejuice fandom, I still ship beetlebabes and love all beetlejuice media but I’ve somehow just drifted from the fandom.

Another thing I feel like mentioning is that my main fandom has changed to a fandom I feel very comfortable in and have made friends in, I haven’t made many friends in the beetlejuice let along beetlebabes fandom but I doesn’t mean I didn’t feel welcome, the babes have been so welcoming and the community they’ve helped build for other beetlebabes shippers is amazing and so kind to others in the community. 

This isn’t a goodbye post of any means to the community, It’s just an update post on where I’ve been while I haven’t post for so long. This isn’t the end of my blog either or even a change in theme because I will be back and posting a lot of beetlebabes content very soon Including edits, fanfiction, and of course one of my favourite kinds of post headcanons.

So until my next post I’ll see you guys again very soon and thank you for reading this post and following my blog.

Hello all, I hope you are all doing well! I haven’t had any time or motivation, really, to update Tumblr for a few, maybe even several weeks now. The long and the short of it is that the end of May started getting real hectic and since the beginning of June, I feel like I’ve just been trying to play catch up. My calendar for June is mega crazy and full of obligations for the month, but I am hoping that having a plan for everything will help make it easier for me to find time to post anyway. Since, one of my biggest issues is just being able to plan and manage my time effectively, but so far, I’ve planned out my busy days and I’ve made sure to pre-plan for stuff as much as I possibly can. Therefore, I hope to post some Not So Berry content again more consistently in the next day or so.

Thank you all for your patience and for reading this post! I look forward to more Sims stuff and playing the game that I love again real soon!

Haven’t been on tumblr for a while

Hey people who follow me on this hell-site. how are you all? horrible? me too.

I thought getting off the site and staying off social media in general would be better to elevate my mood. It worked too, for a little while, but it wasn’t the root of my problems and i know that fleeing from this site  

 I went on a big downward spiral a while ago and after a large amount of things just went really really fucking wrong i think i’m back now. 4 really bad passively suicidal lows in a successive row over two years does a wonder on the mind and general reasonableness and with this quarantine in affect 

Anyways i’m going to be going through my blog in the next few weeks cleaning it up and organizing things. Unfollowing old inactive blogs or blogs that i don’t find enjoyable and looking for new content. Even as my own follower count seems to never show me more than 21 of you guys. It says 49 right now, idk whats up with that discrepancy.

Onto positive things, 

I’m now proud to be out as polyamourous now, even if no one in my daily life try to understand what that actually means. 

I’ve been hanging out with, talking to, and generally being happy with three guys in my life right now. So my yearly goal of putting myself out there has found a happy spot at least as much as it can in quarantine. 

I’ve found myself doing more creative things, such as water-coloring Pokemon which ill have a separate post or three to show off all the babies I've done so far. Just all together on the big sheet i drew them on. ( if you have a request give a Pokemon and a simple action in my ask box)

I am writing again, slowly and only sort of. remember those samples i posted gosh so long ago (probably not. I don’t blame you) in such i’m going to be posting small update quotes on how my various creative writing projects are going. Probably once a week or so as i get new work done.

Okay that about sums it up. Onto trying to be a person again! Oh also, rebranding of my whole look is also going to be a thing. So look out for that.

Life update

Hi y’all, 

So, a lot is going on right now and a lot has happened in my personal life over the past three months. It’s crazy and doesn't really feel like it’s actually happening right now but something that’s helping me through this weird and scary time is remembering that this is only temporary and will be over soon. It just has to get worse before it gets better, that’s all. My heart really goes out to anyone that’s being affected by the Corona virus, I hope everyone’s safe and healthy. I know it can be worrying at times but remembering that this will pass really helps. We just need to hang in there, follow the guidance being given and trust the process. 

One thing I do want to say with regards to this is just to remind everyone to just be considerate and kind to others. Not just right now, but all the time. As a result of the panic-buying that has been going on, there are people who can't always afford the essentials that are missing out because stores have been sold out of the essential products they need as a result of the amount of panic buying that people have been doing. I understand it’s easier said than done sometimes to not panic buy and I’m not trying to criticise anyone who does this, just thought I would put a little reminder out there to just try and think about other people as well as ourselves. We’re all going through this together and so it’s really important to do things like check in with neighbours, friends, relatives, even people that you see out and about and see how they’re doing and check to see if your friends, relatives or neighbours need anything from the shops if they’re unable to leave the house due to age, underlying health conditions or other things. Just be kind. We need to pull together, now more than ever. 

For me, university has been cancelled/moved online to protect both students and staff from catching it. It’s been a week since we found out and so I’ve been at home since then, helping to get things cleaned up at home and also (trying) to get on with uni work since we’re basically learning from home for now. One thing that this whole situation has made me appreciate is technology and how it can help us to stay connected with friends and family, it has particularly come in handy for me since face to face social contact is not allowed at the moment. I was actually able to join a friend of mine in a live this morning and being able to chat with her and catch up  as well as interact with those joining the live was really nice and it helped to boost my mood. I hadn't seen her or talked properly with her since last summer so to be able to do this was really good. 

Something I’ve been having a hard time with is actually finding things to do (other than Uni work) to keep myself entertained at home. So far, I’ve been cleaning my house top to bottom, I attempted to make pancakes this morning and I’ve also kept writing to friends of mine who are on their missions right now. Doing these have helped me to stay entertained but I’m still looking for more ideas so if anyone reading this has any more ideas of what to do, then please feel free to either comment your ideas down below or inbox me! :) 

I have really appreciated being able to spend more time with my family and I’m grateful for good health, a roof over my head and food on the table. I’m also incredibly grateful for my faith and the gospel and the light and hope it brings into my life. Stay safe everyone and remember that you are worth it and that this too shall pass.
