Oceanogràfic Visit

September 10th, 2022

USAC took us to Oceanogràfic, an oceanarium located near the city center. It is part of the Ciudat de les Arts i de les Ciències and is committed to marine conservation. 

➥ The architecture of Oceanogràfic and the rest of the Ciudat de les Arts i de les Ciències is so stunning.

➥A lot of the oceanarium is underground, which allows it to have the largest underwater tunnel in Europe. 

➥ Fun fact: Oceanogràfic is home to the only family of beluga whales in Europe.

➥ Dolphin show with an amazing view! Yes, there was a game of Kahoot going on.

A Test of Man and Mopar

September of 1971 NASCAR Driver Bobby Isaac made history setting several speed records at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. In the iconic 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona after the car was banned from NASCAR in 1971, Isaac's car owner Nord Krauskopf with help of USAC decided to give the car a fitting send off. Bobby Isaac and his pit crew led by legendry Crew Chief Harry Hyde set 28 speed records several of which still stand today.

the massive, poorly constructed environmental risk that spat all over the Standing Rock Sioux people's treaty rights? that dug up their sacred burial sites? the one where the oil corporation who owned it bought out a private company to do a sham of an "environmental analysis" and never consulted the tribe and STILL didn't actually get approval? the one that's literally operating illegally and without proper permits right fucking now?

you remember that.

surprising absolutely no one, the army corps of engineers this week (September 8, 2023) released an EIS (environmental impact statement) draft for public comment that takes into account absolutely 0 of the tribe's concerns, and in fact did not consult with them once in the process!

they're going to officially approve the pipeline.
