Thor's Day
Honoring the God of Thunder Today I used to be a treasure hunter.  My Grandparents would turn me loose to wander all over the dunes of South Padre Island, Texas, with a shovel and a poodle while they relaxed at the house and probably admired their own wisdom; “that’ll wear him out,” they probably thought. From the house set on sand at 3401 Gulf Boulevard I wandered far and wide digging holes…

Stop the Army Corps from Draining Thousands of Acres of Wetlands
Yet again, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has resurrected a destructive project in Mississippi's South Delta that would damage at least 90,000 acres of wetlands that support more than 450 species of birds and wildlife. Their “preferred alternative” for the Yazoo Backwater Area Water Management Project is slated to include a massive pump that will drain and damage hemispherically important wetlands.
Urge the Army Corps to abandon this project once and for all. The deadline to comment is August 27.
Note: Your letter will be sent directly to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of a public comment period and will become part of the public record.

A funny side effect of the Corps generally recruiting only adults is that the Green Lanterns of Earth are probably on average the most well-educated of all of DC’s hero legacies*
Like, Hal was a fighter pilot in the USAF, for which a bachelor’s degree is a requirement. Guy in his original backstory got two degrees in education and psychology at the same time. John’s an architect, so he would’ve gone to college for at least five years.
Kyle’s run in the 90s mentions that he went to college, probably for art. Simon is stated to have a degree in automotive engineering. Jo went to freaking Princeton University. No idea what she studied but I assume it was something like criminal justice since she became a cop afterward.
The only reason Jessica didn’t get to finish her forestry degree was because she was hiding in her apartment for three years after her friends got murdered. But she would’ve if not for that horrifically traumatic event!!
No wonder Bats don’t like Lanterns. They’re all bright and colorful and college educated, like many of the most infamous Gotham rogues.
*I’d like to point out that this is more so because the other superhero families tend to include multiple kids, who are statistically unlikely to have graduated high school yet (and if they haven’t by now they likely never will thanks to DC’s sliding time scale)
Legit, I’m pretty sure the Earth GLs are the absolute last hero legacy to get a kid in main continuity (Keli’s first appearance was in 2019!)
And bc reading comprehension on this site is piss poor, this isn’t me saying that the Green Lanterns are smarter than all your hero blorbos. Just that the majority of them went to school long enough to get their diplomas.

Danny just wanted to enjoy the stars. Was that too hard to ask? Evidently so by the fact that he was currently dragging six foot two man in green into his room.

Friday Food For Thought
Denton Greenbelt Disaster in Slow Motion – Making Good Trouble Can’t you tell I’m frustrated by the lack of progress on the Denton Greenbelt Debacle? E mails to the local authority at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), based in Lewisville, Texas, are responded to in (seemingly) premeditated one-week intervals. I must ass-u-me that response time is normal for ALL Federal agencies, just to…

‘no respect for the laws of physics’ you mean the suggestions of physics? >: ) GET ‘EM, HUX!
only silly fake aerospace engineers care about petty things like the "laws" of physics. real ones build superweapons that tear holes in the fabric of spacetime to blow up entire solar systems and make the explosion visible to the naked eye from lightyears away. every other STEM motherfucker in the galaxy can only dream of achieving hux's level of motherfuckery.

I was on a fence if I were to just use minecraft graphic or all-original pixel arts, if I ever make a comic about Blue Cooking. So, far, I just want to see how labour and time-consuming pixel art would be. The hard part is synching the sprite size to my vector drawing.
That is so much work, and my story of said comic is already done. I can't work as fast as my mind.
I have my guest Ballista (Pixel/EZToon) here to help evaluate the quality of my pixels. The food is what I am most concerned of right now. How detailed should it be? Does it taste better the more I shade it? Outline or not?
Oh! Another thing. I almost forgot. LibreSprite is free. If you are not sure if you are committed enough to buy Aseprite, this is an excellent alternative.

Hal and Simon argue all the time about whether planes or cars are superior modes of transportation. It gets real intense when they start talking in mechanical engineering terms that none of the other Earth GLs understand. One time John dared to suggest that high speed rail is more efficient and better for city planning, and the two of them immediately punted him into the stratosphere.

ok since i posted about it last night, i might as well finally debut my comicaurora sentinel au, even if my drawings for it are. not fully realized
in this chimerae are a localized disaster event that can spring up anywhere, draining the life energy for a mile around. in response (in accordance with the rule of cool), cities built the sentinel corps, giant robots to fight off chimerae before they destroy the city.
more under the cut
kendal is one of these sentinels, a relatively recently developed mark III whose pilot is vash fairblade, captain of the sentinels. there aren't any city gods in this au, so vash is just a guy. why does he have the same name as the city? bc i didnt want to change it. anyway. after a while, kendal develops something of an active mind instead of just being a giant robot¹, mimicking vash's own mind. and then a wave of chimerae attack the city, destroying it, killing vash, and leaving kendal the only remaining sentinel. in the midst of the destruction, though, he could have sworn he saw a woman, unruffled, just... watching.
the sun is on its way down when alinua finds the corpse. or, more accurately, she finds the sentinel. the pilot is still tangled in the cockpit, sentinel curled around him like it was trying to protect him. the corpse is of course vash, and the sentinel is kendal.
alinua still has the 'chimeric plague' (here hypothesized to be the cause of chimera events), and the only reason she goes with him is that a. hes inorganic (can't be affected by the life outburst) and b. if she does cause a chimera event, hes literally a giant robot designed for the specific purpose of fighting chimerae. and besides, vash the city is destroyed. there won't be any collateral damage.
sidebar, alinua can pilot kendal. it's a team effort - now that ive watched pacific rim, i think its a little like drifting if your jaeger also could think. tbh i also think canon kendal and alinua are drift compatible, but thats another post for another time
dainix is another mech pilot, though not willingly - zuurith's sentinel corps is not Exclusively prison labor, but what does it matter if a few prisoners die of brain hemmhorages while piloting? dainix, piloting the sentinel "champion", is the longest lasting prisoner pilot they've had, and he's brutally effective. there are murmurings that he'll be released and placed in the sentinel corps as a citizen, but if he is ever released he'd fuck off in a heartbeat, so he's still in prison, sentence artificially extended for as long as he's useful.
i'm still a little uncertain as to what kind of roles erin, tess, and falst play, so if anyone's got any ideas i'd be delighted to hear them!!
