(disclaimer: not an expert on linguistics or etymology, just playing around with dictionaries)
Suppose humanity were to join the Galactic League of Sophonts. What would be the official name of our species? Hopefully the GLS will respect endonyms as much as possible, but the English word "humankind" won't do (I'm assuming English as de facto lingua franca of Earth; not a fan of that but it is what it is): alien species aren't going to have a local translation for "human", and most probably won't be able to pronounce Earth languages. So we need to find a way to translate "human" into roots as planet-neutral as possible.
Now, the English word human comes, via Latin humanus, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰm̥mṓ, which in turn was derived from *dʰéǵʰōm, meaning "earth" or "ground" (humanus could be interpreted as the adjectival form of humus, though in fact the two words derived independently from P-I-E). A suitable English-based but planet-neutral translation for "humans", therefore, could be Those of the Ground. This is also the case for all Latin-derived languages.
What of other major languages? I'd have expected for Hindi to have similar lines, and Hindi manuṣya मनुष्य looks a lot like humanus, but from what I find it seems unrelated, and comes from manu मनु meaning either "man" (with an unanalyzed P.I.E. etymology *mon, from which also "man") or "thinking, wise". Our Hindi-based name is The Wise Ones.
Russian čelovek челове́к comes from a Proto-Slavic word translated as "child of a clan", in turn from two P.I.E. roots *(s)kelh- and *kʷel-, translated respectively as "group of people" and "to travel/roll around". Our Russian-based name is The Wandering Tribe.
Arabic ‘insān إِنْسَان is a nominalized from verb ‘anisa أَنِسَ , which I see translated as either "to perceive/comprehend" or "to be comfortable/enjoy". I assume the first meaning is the relevant one: our Arabic-based name is The Understanding Ones. (Though The Comfortable Ones is also nice.)
Hebrew adam אָדָם also seems related to the ground, though indirectly: the Proto-Semitic root *dam means "blood", and hence refers to red things, such as clay or human bodies. Our Hebrew-based name is The Red Ones ("The Bloody Ones" wouldn't be very diplomatic, though our fellow sophonts might not have the same reactions as us. EDIT: But "The Bloodied Ones" would be different still, and probably fairer to the language.)
Chinese rén 人 is of unclear derivation; I see the main Proto-Sino-Tibetan candidates are *snaj "nearby" (in the sense of "relatives") and *s/k-niŋ "heart/mind/kindness", via Old Chinese nyin. I will pick the latter and assert that our Chinese-based name is The Kind Ones.
Japanese hito 人 runs into a wall: the Proto-Japonic etymology *pitə also just means "person". However, there is an alternate word ningen 人間 of Chinese derivation, which sends us back to the previous.
Swahili mtu is in a similar position: its Proto-Bantu source *mʊ̀ntʊ̀ means either "person" or "someone". However, Swahili also adopted binadamu "son of Adam" from Arabic, so I guess the choice is between the Arabic or Hebrew name. Similarly, Turkish got insan from Arabic.
Indonesian orang, intriguingly, is said to come from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *uʀaŋ, meaning "outsider". Our Indonesian-name based, The Outsiders, comes ready-made. (Indonesian also got manusia from Hindi and insan from Arabic, so if aliens decide to land on Java on account of being the most densely populated major island on Earth, we're set with names.)

Time for another ramble.
This time, it's about Arjun, Prince of Bali. Some things that bothered me as an Indo.

Look, I know the show had long ended (with only 3 years of runtime and it has been 7 years since it had ended), but the show is surprisingly underwhelming, and I'm saying this as someone who used to watch some of the episodes that showed on TV (dubbed in Indo obv) when I was younger, and also as someone who's taken the time to watch the episodes in order or not.
Keep in mind, I'm not here to bash the show. I liked this show, because it's actually interesting if you actually took the time to enjoy it. It's just that my overanalyzing ass couldn't stfu, so that's why I'm whipping this up out of my ass. It's my job dawg- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Names
They lack Indo names. Like, ok. Aci and Ayu are there, and ig Wangi is also there. But like how their names are pronounced are butchered, especially the twins, they're so Americanized in terms of their name pronunciation.
Tanya is questionable cuz that's not even an Indo name. Tanya in Indo means question, and idk wtf came over the king and queen's head thinking naming their child Question is a good idea.
Everyone else had Hindi names.
I'd propose alternative names for Wangi and Tanya (personally, the name Wangi, wrongly pronounced or otherwise is weird, just saying-).
Funnily enough, I've searched up Balinese names, and I read names are supposed to be given depending on their birth order.
Meaning, if Arjun isn't name the way he is, his name could be Wayan due to being a firstborn child.
Tanya could be named Ni Luh, as a firstborn daughter. Yes, she's a second born, which also give her the option of Ni Made. Honestly it depends, it could be either of them, but my point still stands.
And for Wangi, I'd give her the name Bunga instead, meaning flower.
Lack of Indo Language Overall
Look, I know it's an Indian cartoon, but if you're going to put a set in other places other than India, might as well do proper research.
Like, I get it, Balinese is especially a difficult language, and I understand as a Javanese and Maduranese who doesn't understand squat of Java at the slightest.
But at the very least, you could use normal Indo. But then again, I think they'll butcher pronunciation regardless if they did or not, looking how they ruined Aci and Ayu's name.
All I'm saying is that, yes, although the overall language use is Hindi, at the very least, use some Indo words in there, even if it's just a little bit. Music, clothing, and architecture isn't the only thing that should be shown, our language, the local or the country-wide one should be represented as well. But I guess it's hard given that there's literally no Indo person in their team.
I get that Arjun and Tanya are biracial, and Hindi also had the right to be represented even if the setting isn't at India. But my point still stands.
Arjun's Lack of Hair Care
Listen, Arjun probably had the most flawless hair known to mankind, and I think he knows it, so that's why he's embracing it. But the point is, similar way of how Bheem's dhoti never got in the way of his fighting, Arjun's hair also never got in the way of training and fighting.
Realistically, he'd tie it up so his hair won't block his view. But god forbid that times of he did get his eyes blocked from view, it won't because of his hair, more like it's from other things like blowing leaves and flying papers.
I would personally love to see more of Arjun looking like this more.
That hairstyle is equally gorgeous as his free hair. He'd still look girly either way lmfao.
Khojo
Look, he deserve his own column due to reasons.
First and foremost; he's a ginger, so are his father. Having a hair color other than black and brown in Asia is rather unusual unless his father had like a foreign lineage. Not to mention they're weirdly pale as well. I have red on my hair naturally, but he's literally just straight up ginger dawg-
And what is this obsession over getting rid of Arjun so Khojo could become prince instead? Like, I get that Arjun is an heir, but isn't usually if the heir couldn't take over or just no more at all, shouldn't the other borns took over instead? If in the events Arjun is to be eliminated, Tanya would be successor instead. Why would a Minister's kid be appointed as prince instead? Like, I don't know if it works like in other countries (I'm not familiar with Indo royal hierarchy system, much less Bali), but just saying that appointing someone who's not even part of the family as an heir when there's clearly someone else other than the initial heir who could take over and is part of the family.
Take is from Bheem for example; sure, he's not royalty and not even part of the royal family. But he was appointed as a substitute king for a while because both the king and the princess are absent. Bheem is appointed to be king because he's trusted and can protect the kingdom just fine.
Khojo is different, and even if scenario plays in a similar manner but still differs; like if the king and queen ceased to exist anymore, Arjun would assume the throne from the get-go despite how still very young he is. If Arjun is also ceased to exist, Tanya would assume the throne. There's literally no place for Khojo at all, and even if Tanya is also gone, I don't think Khojo or even any of the Ministers are gonna assume the throne regardless, especially Khojo's father. Khojo's father literally once planned of Arjun and Zimmbu's kidnapping and tiger-napping all for the sake of getting his son to the seat of prince, yet that is literally not how it works. Who would even trust the throne to him dawg?? Arjun isn't the only child royalty in the family, Tanya is still there. If Arjun is killed after he got kidnapped, she'll assume to be heir right away.
Oh, and he's trying so hard for Tanya, even though she's not interested. He's so desperate for what?
Now I'm moving onto something I don't really wanna bitch off of, just wanted to point things out and maybe throw some scenarios here and there because I think it's neat.
Arjun As A Girl In Disguise
Tell me if you see this pic out of context, you'd tell me whether this kid is a girl or a boy;
Anyways, my point is, if you give him more feminine clothes and he wears it, 100% he'd be mistaken as a girl. And if situation requires it, he'd effortlessly lie that he is a girl, and no one will suspect shit.
He's not even just androgynous anymore, he's straight up feminine, and I liked it that not all men should all look broad and jacked. They could be feminine asf and still look badass.
Both Arjun and Tanya Represents Arjuna of Mahabarata
Now, what do I mean by that?
We all know Arjuna's personality. Arjun had the exact same personality as Arjuna (hence literally being a spinoff version of Arjuna himself). From enjoying attention, how girls fall for them, even as wielding the same weapons (bow and arrow). I think Arjun represents Arjuna in the warfare aspect.
And where do Tanya fit into this?
See, Tanya is more artistic; she danced and done more things in the arts compared to when she actually did anything relating with combat (mentioning the times she once did archery and another episode where broke into Arjun's room with Wangi to get his weapons to train while Arjun is away). Tanya represents Arjuna who were taught and enjoys dancing and music aspect during the exile.
Now I just want answers to my questions;
Who tf is Sankat? Ik he's also a prince, but I can't tell if he's related to Arjun in some way (I don't understand Hindi)
Why is Wangi even in the forest?
Why is Wangi blue?
That's probably all. If there's more I want to talk about, I'll add it in a reblog.
#arjun prince of bali#Kayetra Spade Queen#Kayetra Rambles#i went insane on this one you could tell#thinking of many scenarios of arjun wearing dresses and fooling everyone everywhere and rocking the dress overall#also thinking about modern au where arjun and tanya moved somewhere fkr studies cuz yes#found a description somewhere in TikTok that someone named Arjun is aiming to be a doctor#and that description came from the arjun prince of bali tag#ik that's prob a diff arjun altogether but it's quite a neat scenario where arjun secretly wanted to be a doctor#but couldn't because he'd feel guilty for his duties#live laugh love arjun in tied up hair#srs tho arjun with tied up hair looked so pretty omfg-#also saying if the show showcased more of the indo or Balinese language low-key arjun would throw some heavy insults with heavy accents

Ꮺ … TWO TRUTHS & A LIE ˒ L. HEESEUNG
playing hindi tayo pwede by the juans ・ gender netural reader + word count 962 genre angst .. filo au .. situationship warnings mentions of : citrus fruit .. reckless drivers .. kissing — trans. & cred. to byhees for the cute layout
you love the rain.
there’s this certain serenity that accompanies those pretty dew drops. maybe it’s in the way they pitter patter upon the asphalt. or perhaps it’s the striking color palette of your umbrella that contrasts the skies’ gloomy visage.
(people always did say that lemons make the best remedy. you just so happen to have more than several duplicates of the citrus fruit printed on your shield.)
of course, there’s some frustration that comes with sudden rainfall. such as wearing white shoes that already get teased by fellow footwear through the method of stepping on them. you also can’t forget calculating how much force you must put into leaping over puddles like you’re competing in the olympics.
(well it’s shoes vs. life. and seeing as how even speed bumps can’t prevent drivers from embracing their inner dominic torreto, you’ll take your chances with the soaked footwear.)
but there is no serenity, white shoes, puddles, or fast and furious au characters.
it’s just you and heeseung. your umbrella and his (one vibrant noon and the other, bland midnight). and heavy rainfall lingering by the corner.
you and him; we and us.
at first, you thought it was merely a dream. maybe you stayed up too late and too often—to the point where even when you’re awake, your restless mind wrapped you up in such vivid scenarios.
(if only it was that active during class discussions. then your grades would be the only thing you would have been worrying over during that week.)
after the words came the gesture. and the thing about it is it doesn’t matter how hard you tried to convince yourself otherwise.
there was no way your mind could suddenly concoct the feeling that came out of his java chip-stained lips against yours. nor could it accurately etch the firm yet careful press of his hands upon your waist—a grip you’d become accustomed to later rather than sooner.
(another thing to acknowledge is that no matter how familiar you become with that little habit of his, it doesn’t stop being a trigger. you know.. for the fireworks that sear across your body because those lithe fingertips love retracing their prints on your bare skin.)
but now he has a hand wrapped around the handle of his umbrella. its partner is tucked safely in his coat pocket; as if the thick material would keep the tremors at bay.
and you? you’re hoping this is merely a dream.
because if there’s any best time for your mind to get imaginative, it’s now.
you were the endgame.
so many things look good on heeseung. in fact, if you wanted to, you could compile a whole book filled with things that complement the raven-haired male. that would have been a unique gift for your dating anniversary..
‘have been’ being the key word.
“alam mo..” your stupid voice is already on the verge of breaking. but your stubbornness does not understand the concept of timing, hence why you’re determined to follow through. “kahit maikli lang ang panahon na binigay sa atin, ang dami kong naranasan at naramdaman. higit sa lahat, naging masaya ako. kaya, salamat.. bambi.”
bambi. your bambi.
even though you can’t remember it vividly anymore, you can recall the way his lips waned into a meek smile. and just like how the icing can’t be complete without the cherry (you dislike icing, he constantly picks off cherries—the irony), the crimson hue on the tips of his ears always accompany his replication of the glowing crescent hung above your heads.
“salamat din, tink. hindi ka nagdala ng liwanag sa buhay ko, kasi ikaw mismo ang naging liwanag ko. ewan ko kung may secret ability ka, pero tuwing bumibigat yung loob ko, at tinago ko yun mula sa mundo, you were always there to make sure i didn’t carry the weight by myself.”
fuck it. you no longer care if the downpour drenches you; glues your clothes to your skin.
your umbrella falls limp by your side while you wrap your arms around heeseung. it hurts and soothes your aching soul when you feel him immediately copy your gesture.
“i love you.” you murmur into his shoulder.
“i love you too.”
one of you has to pull away. it’s a known fact; an idea neither of you want to accept.. but that’s just how reality works, doesn’t it?
heeseung decides to sort of take one for the team. it doesn’t fully count when his hands merely travel back to a familiar place: your waist.
after two days—fourty eight (48) hours of not being able to rest his trembling hands upon that space, he’s afraid it’s fading from his mind. one more time, the cold pads of his fingers walk across those invisible lines. he caresses the unfamiliar spanse, commits them to memory again.
then, with plenty of reluctance, he takes his hands off to grasp something important to you. a sheepish laugh echoes from the depths of his cracked heart as he holds your umbrella above your head. “hindi ko alam kung kailangan mo pa ‘to..”
“oo nga, parang walang kwenta na gamitin yan ngayon.” you reply, the shadow of a smile lingering on your countenance.
after sharing some deliberation and more laughter, you keep the shield over your head. heeseung chooses the same approach, despite his raven tresses already clinging to his forehead. it makes sense, seeing as how the conclusion you two fell upon is that getting sick is just like almost every other aspect in life; it isn’t guaranteed.
just as you begin your walk to your house, he calls out your name. you turn on your heel to see him standing there, looking at you with a golden gleam in his doe eyes.
“sana kapag pwede na, pwede pa.”
taglist haven’t thought of it yet..

Jau, Yava, Barley (Hordeum vulgare): Yavakshar Uses & Benefits
Barley, known as Jau in Hindi and Yava in Sanskrit, holds a distinguished position in Ayurvedic medicine due to its extensive therapeutic applications and nutritional value. Classified as Hordeum vulgare in botanical nomenclature, barley has been used for millennia not just as a staple grain but as a functional food and medicinal agent in holistic health systems. In this comprehensive article, we delve deep into the Ayurvedic perspective of Yava, its classical references, health benefits, pharmacological properties, and formulations that make it a marvel in ancient and modern healing alike.
Botanical Identity and Classification of Jau (Barley)
Botanical Name: Hordeum vulgare Family: Poaceae (Grass family) Common Names: Barley (English), Jau (Hindi), Yava (Sanskrit)
Jau is an annual cereal grain with elongated spikes containing rows of kernels. It is cultivated widely in temperate regions and forms the basis of several dietary and medicinal preparations in Ayurvedic and traditional health systems.

Vernacular Names of Yava, Jau
Jau is recognized across India and the world under various local names. Here are some of the most prominent:
Sanskrit: Yava
English: Barley
Hindi: Java, Jo, Jau
Marathi: Java, Cevad, Jav, Satu
Kannada: Javegodhi
Tamil: Baali Arisi, Barliyarishi
Telugu: Yava Dhanya, Barlibiyam, Dhanyabhedam, Pachchayava, Yava
Bengali: Jaba, Jau, Jav
Gujarati: Cheno, Jau
Malayalam: Javegambu
Punjabi: Javo, Jawa, Nai
Habitat and Cultivation of Yava, Jau
Barley shows excellent adaptability to varying climates and soil conditions, which is why it is grown across continents in different agro-climatic zones.
Global Distribution of Jau
North Africa (near desert areas): Barley is sown in autumn, where it survives dry, arid zones.
Western Europe and North America: In more moist and temperate regions, it is sown in spring, allowing for optimal harvest during the early summer months.
Cultivation of Jau
India cultivates barley primarily in saline, partly alkaline soils, often unsuitable for other cereal crops, making it an excellent crop for marginal lands.
Major Cultivation States: Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan
Season: Rabi crop (winter season)
Uses: Beyond food, barley is widely used for brewing, livestock feed, and Ayurvedic formulations.
This wide geographical span makes barley one of the most resilient and economically valuable grains, especially in water-deficient areas.
Morphology of Yava, Jau
Jau is an erect, annual grass, typically reaching up to 1 meter in height. Its morphological features are ideal for quick growth and hardy yield.
Leaves: Long, narrow, linear-lanceolate leaves measuring 15–25 cm.
Stem: Cylindrical, smooth, and solid, supporting the terminal spikes.
Spikes: Composed of spikelets in alternating fashion, bearing grain kernels.
Grains: Oval, elongated, grooved, and golden to light brown in color.
Chemical Constituents of Yava, Jau

The most recent generation is still pushing the limits of performance, speed, and cost effectiveness. Mistral Large 2 is made available on la Platform and has been enhanced with additional functionalities to make the development of creative AI apps easier.
Mistral Large 2
With a 128k context window, Mistral Large 2 is compatible with more than 80 coding languages, including Python, Java, C, C++, JavaScript, and Bash, and it supports dozens of languages, including Arabic, Hindi, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese.
Mistral Large 2’s size of 123 billion parameters allows it to run at high throughput on a single node; it is intended for single-node inference with long-context applications in mind. Mistral is making Mistral Large 2 available for use and modification for non-commercial and research purposes under the terms of the Mistral Research License. A Mistral Commercial License must be obtained by getting in touch with them in order to use Mistral Large 2 for commercial purposes that call for self-deployment.
General performance
In terms of performance / cost of serving on assessment parameters, Mistral Large 2 establishes new benchmarks. Specifically, on MMLU, the pretrained version attains an accuracy of 84.0% and establishes a new benchmark on the open models’ performance/cost Pareto front.
Code and Reasoning
After using Codestral 22B and Codestral Mamba, Mistral trained a significant amount of code on Mistral Large 2. Mistral Large 2 performs on par with top models like GPT-4o, Claude 3 Opus, and Llama 3 405B, and it significantly outperforms the preceding Mistral Large.
Also, a lot of work went into improving the model’s capacity for reasoning. Reducing the model’s propensity to “hallucinate” or produce information that sounds reasonable but is factually inaccurate or irrelevant was one of the main goals of training. This was accomplished by fine-tuning the model to respond with greater caution and discernment, resulting in outputs that are dependable and accurate.
The new Mistral Large 2 is also programmed to recognise situations in which it is unable to solve problems or lacks the knowledge necessary to give a definite response. This dedication to precision is seen in the better model performance on well-known mathematical benchmarks, showcasing its increased logic and problem-solving abilities:Image credit to Mistral Performance accuracy on code generation benchmarks (all models were benchmarked through the same evaluation pipeline) Image credit to Mistral Performance accuracy on MultiPL-E (all models were benchmarked through the same evaluation pipeline, except for the “paper” row)
Direction after & Alignment
Mistral Large 2’s ability to follow instructions and carry on a conversation was significantly enhanced. The new Mistral Large 2 excels at conducting lengthy multi-turn talks and paying close attention to directions.
Longer responses typically result in higher results on various standards. Conciseness is crucial in many business applications, though, as brief model development leads to faster interactions and more economical inference. This is the reason Mistral worked so hard to make sure that, if feasible, generations stay brief and direct.
Varieties in Language
Working with multilingual documents is a significant portion of today’s corporate use cases. A significant amount of multilingual data was used to train the new Mistral Large 2, despite the fact that most models are English-centric. It performs exceptionally well in Hindi, Arabic, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch. The performance results of Mistral Large 2 on the multilingual MMLU benchmark are shown here, along with comparisons to Cohere’s Command R+ and the previous Mistral Large, Llama 3.1 models.Image credit to MistralImage credit to Mistral
Use of Tools and Function Calling
Mistral Large 2 can power complicated commercial applications since it has been trained to handle both sequential and parallel function calls with ease. It also has improved function calling and retrieval skills.
Check out Mistral Large 2 on the Platform
Today, you can test Mistral Large 2 on le Chat and utilise it via la Plateforme under the name mistral-large-2407. Mistral is using a YY.MM versioning scheme for all of their models, therefore version 24.07 is available, and the API name is mistral-large-2407. HuggingFace hosts and makes available weights for the teach model.
Two general-purpose models, Mistral Nemo and Mistral Large, and two specialised models, Codestral and Embed, are the focal points of Mistral’s consolidation of the offerings on la Plateforme. All Apache models (Mistral 7B, Mixtral 8x7B and 8x22B, Codestral Mamba, Mathstral) are still available for deployment and fine-tuning using Mistral SDK mistral-inference and mistral-finetune, even as they gradually phase out older models on la Plateforme.
Mistral is expanding the fine-tuning options on la Plateforme with effect from today on: Mistral Large, Mistral Nemo, and Codestral are now covered.

Maybe we don't know yet how life was created

Maybe we don't know yet how life was created
But friends, can you throw some light on how we humans came into existence on this earth?
Human Evolution - The Story of Human Origin
Evolution News
The iconic images of apes evolving into humans are more imagination than reality. Science Uprising Episode 8- Human Evolution: The Monkey Bias. Watch now! Bioethics.
Homo sapiens, the first modern humans, evolved from their early hominid predecessors between 200,000 and 300,000 years ago. They developed a capacity for language about 50,000 years ago. The first modern humans began moving outside of Africa starting about 70,000-100,000 years ago.
How Did Humans Evolve?
History Channel
https://www.history.com › Topics › Pre-History
5 Mar 2020 — The story of human origins is complicated since our ancestors swapped genes (and probably skills).
On the biggest steps in early human evolution scientists are in agreement. The first human ancestors appeared between five million and seven million years ago, probably when some apelike creatures in Africa began to walk habitually on two legs.
They were flaking crude stone tools by 2.5 million years ago. Then some of them spread from Africa into Asia and Europe after two million years ago.
With somewhat less certainty, most scientists think that people who look like us -- anatomically modern Homo sapiens -- evolved by at least 130,000 years ago from ancestors who had remained in Africa. Their brain had reached today's size. They, too, moved out of Africa and eventually replaced nonmodern human species, notably the Neanderthals in Europe and parts of Asia, and Homo erectus, typified by Java Man and Peking Man fossils in the Far East.
But agreement breaks down completely on the question of when, where and how these anatomically modern humans began to manifest creative and symbolic thinking. That is, when did they become fully human in behavior as well as body? When, and where, was human culture born?
How did humans start on the Earth?
Human evolution is the lengthy process of change by which people originated from apelike ancestors. Scientific evidence shows that the physical and behavioral traits shared by all people originated from apelike ancestors and evolved over a period of approximately six million years.3 Jan 2024
How did the human beings come into existence?
Anatomically modern humans emerged around 300,000 years ago in Africa, evolving from Homo heidelbergensis or a similar species. Migrating out of Africa, they gradually replaced and interbred with local populations of archaic humans. For most of their history, humans were nomadic hunter-gatherers.
Anyway, in this entire biological world, we human community is the best.
