a little songv drabble in case y'all were getting hungry again... (i'd love comments in exchange for the goods and services :3)

From time to time I like to imagine a little convo between V and Song Mi during a quiet moment that goes something like this. When it's most peaceful. They could be eating dinner, sitting around a fire. Watching a movie together at night. It begins with So Mi fixing her gaze on V and of course V senses it, feels it along with the rapid beating of her heart.

"What are you looking at me like that for?" "Like what?" "Like... like, I dunno. Somethin' cheesy like I put the stars in the sky or somethin'."

So Mi laughed a bit then murmured, "I don't know how else to look at you." V exhaled through her nose and stared at her but didn't reply. "Whether you want to accept it or not, you've got a big heart, V. Don't let anything or anyone take that from you."

"Think you've got me mixed up with someone else."

"No, seriously. You do. Who else would have done what you did for me?"

So Mi couldn't be sure but V's eyes appeared to glisten during their conversation and it seemed to take more effort for the merc's composure to remained rooted in place. The cool mask of stoicism would slip, revealing the softest of smiles left to replace it along with blue-gray eyes that watered slightly but tears refused to breach. The netrunner couldn't help but feel a sense of giddiness, of pride, when she saw it—that softer side of V, the one that could bleed and be vulnerable. The one who sent her to the stars so she could be free.

Poke long enough, you could drill a hole... So Mi thought.

A blanket of calm had fallen over them. A delicate, near-inaudible whisper of, "... I missed you, y'know," then V's throat bobbed as she swallowed the thick lump there that never quite went away. The one made of grief and apprehension.

With anyone else V would have stumbled over those words or just avoided saying them altogether. She was never any good with that sorta thing: being open and emotional. Actions always spoke louder, after all; and sometimes they screamed or they pleaded. What came next was an affirming combination of both words and action but from So Mi this time. As the older woman shifted closer, V turned her body towards So Mi almost out of instinct (physicality was something that did come easy for her) and welcomed the arms that wrapped securely around her shoulders.

Hands came up to gently hold onto one of those arms and it was when their cheeks pressed together that V heaved a soft sigh. When it became apparent that So Mi intended to hold her for a while, the merc was as good as mush in her embrace and she cutely rubbed her cheek against her companion's. "Missed ya too, V. I really did." From their contact, V could feel the smile that tugged at the corners of So Mi's mouth and she decided 'ah, fuck it. what do I have to lose?' before pressing her lips against the periphery of that lovely smile.

There was a pause and then the smile was gone. V had a sheepish apology primed and ready but she was gifted a fuller, more direct kiss instead as So Mi turned her head. The hand on V's cheek guided her into it, her upper lip being held captive between the soft set of another's and a feeling of warmth and tenderness immediately bloomed in her chest. Her senses were flooded with everything So Mi: from how she smelled (hmm... a fusion of floral and what V could only deduce as a scent wonderfully unique to So Mi) to the sweet sapidity of her lips.

V cupped her face to deepen the kiss, their mouths now slanting in a more leisurely manner, the pads of her thumbs brushing along the EMP threading on So Mi's cheeks. The arms around V pulled them closer together and when they broke apart for air, their noses brushed and breaths mingled but only briefly before the two of them were going back in for more. It was like they were making up for every kiss they held back before. For every missed opportunity of one. So Mi had wanted to kiss V after their daring escape from the stadium but didn't, V had wanted to kiss So Mi on that shuttle but hadn't... But it was the fine and intricate workings of fate (or even a stroke of luck) that always brought people together sometimes. Maybe, just maybe, the beast of Night City could chew you up and spit you out but this could make you stronger in the process, make you better than you used to be.

There was hope yet.

When you think about it, when Songbird is betrayed by V in Firestarter, there's moments where she's clearly not in control of herself. The Blackwall is influencing her and taking advantage of her emotional vulnerability stemming from her disappointment and hurt. I think that's why she lashed out so hard in that lab after the ICEbreaker was activated. She was like a terrified, cornered animal with everyone turned against her. Meanwhile, if V sided with Songbird in Firestarter, she's able to pull herself together a little better knowing she's got someone on her side. Just her and V against the Barghest, the FIA and then Myers. It's easier to carry the weight when V is with her. And then at the shuttle she decides she can't take the guilt and regret anymore and comes clean about the neural matrix. Probably expects V to turn against her now, to be angry like she has every right to be. Instead, V tells her she would have helped anyway had she known the truth. V doesn't call Reed. He would never do the right thing and so it's V that has to do it. So V makes probably one of the most selfless decisions of her life and decides that Songbird needs (and deserves) the cure more than she does. Knows that Songbird should be free after suffering for so long. Her heart was shattered, nay, crushed to pieces, but they'd already come this far. V isn't a quitter. She had no choice but to put Reed down and couldn't bring herself to regret helping Songbird despite everything. And I think she can never really get Songbird out of her head or her heart after she watched the shuttle being launched. Her life would never be the same after Songbird had touched it, touched her very soul.

Lately i've been wondering if V and Songbird can actually feel each other when Song uses the relic to communicate with V

In more than a few instances Song tries to touch V, hold their hand, both trying to search and give comfort to them, like yeah, the first time they meet V tries to touch So Mi but their hand goes straight thru her, like a hologram just like Johnny, but after that, Songbird rests her hand on top of V's on multiple occasions, I wonder if they both felt something from that, a ghost touch maybe?

like ok, at the start of the game, the first time V interacts with Johnny he slaps them and V actually feels it? I mean like, the slap literally makes V fall to the ground (and there's a slapping noise too) look

So does this mean that V can actually feel Johnny and vice versa? ok but hear me out, even if it's not completely a physical touch, it is there and V feels it, maybe since he's in V's brain he may be able to control V's nervous system and induce pain (or any other physical feelings??) like he makes V feel the slap even tho it didn't physically happened?

Now, when Songbird uses the relic to talk with V she's basically taking Johnny's place (so they don't fry V's brain like she initially said when they first met) so does that mean she can also control V's physical sensations and potentially make V feel her touch?? because even if So Mi is not actually there, could she make V's brain believe that she is? (stuff like this can also happen in real life too, feeling things that aren't actually there)

Lets say this is true, does this also mean that if Songbird messes with the right parts of her own and V's brain V can touch her back and make her feel it?

Idk, I just know that they're both touch starved and take every chance they get to feel each other. But if what I said it's true that opens so many possibilities to explore their relationship and dynamic a lot more (in many ways wink wink)

Things I think about from Phantom Liberty a lot. (For different reasons obviously)

When rescuing the president when Songbird tells you to scale the scaffolding and just very crisply orders you to Go. *twirls hair and kicks feet*

When Reed is questioning you at the basketball court if your honest with him that you weren’t looking for a tail he’ll say Attagirl (for female v) *twirls hair and kicks feet*

When You side with Songbird and Alex is in the room above you and she sees you and So Mi escape she turns around and whines “Reed, they’re giving us the slip!” (This one I just like how whiney she sounded like two kids at a playground weren’t sharing, not a rando merc is helping an NUSA Traitor escape)

Anytime V is worried about Song, the distress in her voice as she calls out to see if she’s ok (thinking of NCX and when the plane gets downed specifically)

Anytime you do well on a mission Songbird or Reed praise you.

When you side with So Mi and comfort Reed at NCX when he’s counting down you can here his voice break on two and it hurts my heart so much. I didn’t want to kill him but I wasn’t going to let him get So Mi.

Also, I've finally come up with my OTP name for these two. Val and Judy's OTP name is based on their hair colours, and how it represents how they complement each other.

For Vega and So Mi, birds tend to duet to strengthen their bond. They synchronise their brains when they do this, and sometimes it's almost impossible to tell that there's two birds singing. Birds that duet tend to stay together longer.

Vega and So Mi are linked together due to the lingering effects of the Relic. They can hear each other even when they're separated. When they're close enough, So Mi can project herself into Vega's optics, and like Johnny's Relic construct, Vega can feel the projection, and vice versa. So, their OTP is: Duet.

Chorus refers to the three personalities in V's head that act as one, but the duet refers specifically to Vega and So Mi.
