Sorry to say that, but as a single I hate Valentines Day.

I'm so sick of seeing post after post on Instagram of celebrities saying "I love you" for media attention and publicity. But maybe I'm just too unromantic. I know you have a family, do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

In this case I am unromantic too. I prefer small gifts and tokens of love throughout the year and not just on a specific day of the year, just because that's what the majority dictates.

Apart from that, I think it's ridiculous to film myself kissing my husband and then post it online. That makes no sense to me, I prefer to enjoy some things in the moment and not while filming.

“—and so, we see the arrival of Yersinia pestis—the Black Plague—crop up in England around 1348.”

Hob is smacking a projector screen with a meter stick when Dream appears in the back of the lecture hall. There’s a map on screen, marking the coming and going of the disease throughout Europe. It’s not the most romantic subject matter for Valentine’s Day, but Dream doesn’t care. He could listen to his lover talk about anything with rapt attention. The way Hob tells stories, especially those that he experienced, is intoxicating for Dream. He feeds off the energy Hob brings to his students, the fire and passion with which he teaches. Even talking about the grotesque, Hob glows with excitement.

Hob turns from his assault on the map to look out at his students. His eyes track over them, noticing who is online shopping and who is engaged with the subject matter. When he spots Dream, he breaks out into a grin.

“What’s so funny, Dr. G?” a student in the front row asks. Dream reaches for her subconscious. Sarah Williams. Her daydreams during this class are filled with images of his lover kissing her, touching her, telling her soft and sweet things that only Dream should have the luxury of hearing. He bites back a possessive growl when he notices Hob’s eyes are still locked on him as he opens his mouth.

“Looks like we have a very special guest that I just noticed!” With a flourish, he points Dream out. “My husband must’ve snuck in to embarrass me on Valentine’s.” The students all turn around to stare at him. Dream fights the urge to vanish himself as the students’ minds start to wander, making the connection between their professor and him, and what they must do in their private time.

“Now, now, I know he’s pretty,” he winks and Dream flushes, “but we do have to learn about the plague for the next 20 minutes. So, if I could get your focus back up here—”

Hob continues his lecture, diving into the intricacies of medieval ports and shipping, wandering through a tangent about what people in the Middle Ages thought about hygiene. It’s music to Dream’s ears as he relaxes into his seat and watches his husband at work. Somehow, the students are much more engaged, asking questions which Hob answers excitedly, jumping about the classroom and whacking the screen more than once.

“Alright, so make sure you read the next section I’ve assigned on the course website! We’ll be going into more of the consequences of the Black Death next time and I want to hear your takes on it. Have a great rest of your day. Go eat some chocolates!” Hob chuckles as Dream descends the stairs toward Hob, gift in hand. “I believe I’m about to have my fair share of them. Bye!”

“Hello, Hob.”

“Hi, love. Warn a guy before you disrupt his class next time, eh?” He wraps his arms around Dream’s waist, giving him a peck on the cheek.

“I enjoy hearing you tell a story. It is… romantic for me.” He shifts the box out of the way of Hob’s body, dropping his arm down to his side.

“Of course! The plague’s the most romantic thing in the world.” Hob rolls his eyes. “You insane creature.”

Dream presses their foreheads together for a moment, then looks Hob in the eye.

“I believe a gift is to be given on this day?”

Hob releases Dream from his grasp and looks at him eagerly. Dream smiles, the corners of his mouth turning up ever so slightly. He hands the box over to Hob, who tears through the bow.

“Chocolate-covered strawberries! Dream, you didn’t have to get me these!”

“It is of no consequence.” Dream says, his eyes sparkling at Hob’s delight.

Hob immediately picks the fruit up, lips wrapping around it as he takes a bite. It brings images of what else Dream has planned for their night to his mind, which he is all the more eager to get to as Hob moans in delight.

“Oh, Dream, it’s delicious! Thank you, dove.” He plants a chocolatey kiss on Dream’s lips.

“I obtained them from the dreams of a French chocolatier.” He moves to whisper in Hob’s ear, his cool breath making Hob shiver. “I have more gifts for you. If you will accompany me to our home.” He steps back and examines his husband. Hob’s pupils are blown, and he has begun to pant.

“Yes,” Hob blurts. “Let’s go. Now.” He sets the box of strawberries down and stuffs his course materials and laptop in his bag, then throws the satchel over his shoulder and grabs Dream’s hand. Hob power-walks toward the door, dragging Dream behind him. There are a few spots that Dream can transport them away without being seen, but the middle of a lecture hall that has student stragglers around certainly isn’t one of them.

If Dream shuts down a few dreams students have about them that night, Hob doesn’t need to know.

A quick list of what I miss most about Texas: stone creek, Buc-ees, all the amazing donut places, how close/convenient everything was, how laid back everything was. And my people of course.

I watched the weirdest movie last night. It was set in California and I think I forgot how beautiful it is there, just flowers everywhere. But also, I haven’t experienced spring here. I did see the Boston public garden in May and it was like something out of a fairytale, flowers so big I thought they were fake at first.

I was definitely the biggest whiner ever about snow. It hasn’t snowed in two weeks. With no plans to snow next week either, in fact we’re supposed to have two days in the 60s! Which I don’t think is the norm for here at all and climate change is terrifying. But wanted to note we only had one snowy week and in hindsight it was not a big deal at all. In fact, I miss it. We didn’t even have time to make a snowman!

First thing yesterday morning, before I had even put my glasses on, a kid asked me to blow up a balloon. It wasn’t even half full when it exploded into my right eye. It was so painful I couldn’t even scream. I just remember kicking the couch in agony thinking my eye had exploded. Five minutes later when I could finally open it I realized it was (mostly) fine. But oh man. Close your eyes when you blow up balloons, folks.

Apparently Justin has a yearly meeting that falls over Valentine’s Day. This year and next it’s Feb 13-14. He celebrated with the kids this am and then left for the airport. In our last house, I used to get super freaked out when he left on work trips. We lived by the woods, but we had a fence and I knew all our neighbors and I was still freaked out.

Here we actually live in the woods, we don’t have a fence, I don’t know all our neighbors, we find animal remains on our property—but I feel safe here, go figure. I don’t know if it’s because I view Mass as safer than Texas, or because of neighbor friends. I was close with my old neighbor too, but she was a frail old lady. I know if there was ever an issue with an intruder or the house or a wild animal my bff’s husband would be here in 30 seconds. We also just keep a general lookout for each other. Good neighbors are such a gift. Also, Peabody has become such a guard dog since moving here/being the only dog. It’s annoying usually (especially when he scares people) but nice when Justin is traveling.

Why is it that in above freezing temps our lawn turned brown in Texas every winter? Here we had below zero temps and our lawn is still green. Grass type? Maybe we have moss? I don’t know but I’ll take it.

Can you train cats? I have a friend who swears she can train her cats to stay off counters and leave her plants alone but I just don’t believe her.

I was thinking the other day about how people appear online vs in person. I’ve been told by people lately that I’m high energy and I ask a lot of questions. The question thing is a problem I’m working on, I’m just insanely curious. About everything. All the time. It does make me lol though that people think I’m high energy because I always feel half asleep. Maybe it’s the ADHD. Anyway. Not South Park, Valentines Day, 6pm

“Oh sweet jesus.” Tweek sighed, collapsing to the backstage floor. His whole body shuddered with the effort of his panting, muscles shocked at finally being allowed to relax.

He gulped from his water bottle in preparation for having to get up. He was three hours behind on his hydration schedule, as usual.

One of the girls stopped along side Tweek just before the big crowd was about to trample in. “You good sweetheart? We get to go home to our loveys now.”

He chuckled in response and took her hand as she held it out to pick him up. “God yeah, I can’t wait.” Sighing contently.

“Is your hubbie coming to pick you up for a night on the town?” She twanged still performing her period accent.

Tweek nodded with renewed energy. “Oh jesus I actually have no idea! He always finds something special to do. God. I stopped trying to guess. I’m always surprised. I think he just picks something the day of.” He thought back contently. “We got together one Valentines purely on fluke. Really I think he just panicked and blurted it out. Christ. We’re a mess.”

The lady trilled endearingly. “You two are so cute! Well I hope you have a fantastic time sweetie.”

Craigs whole body felt like it was vibrating and he hated it.

He’d been searching online for months, didn’t find anything. Asked around his office for advice and all of his older heterosexual coworkers gave nothing but the most brainumbing contextless responses.

And plain restaurants didn’t sound right, Tweek was trying a new diet and the last time they went to one he ate a bee. Christ, they’re a mess.

Tweek already had everything he could possibly want, they’d each made sure of that together. After everything they’d been through they hadn’t cared for commercialized holidays to gift things the other wanted, set dates to celebrate wins, show each other every bit of affection they felt whenever they could.

But his boyfriend fucking husband deserved to have something special today anyways. Not just because people at work were going to ask them both what they did, and his older heterosexual coworkers were going to be annoying pricks teasing him for failing to manage anything for his doting spastic husband who zipped past building security before he could be perceived to bring him his lunch. Tweek deserved better to have even the most allied heterosexual to even entertain the thought that Craig was dedicated to doing anything for him forever until death do they part, and afterlife willing forever after too.

He had pulled it off every year before. From the first time he blurted out he didn’t want to fake date any more, to scheduling their first joint apartment hunt, to the loan for the starter business coming through right on time, to blurting out their marriage proposal. He had managed it every time. He just has to figure it out in the next like… twenty minutes.

But sweet jesus he didn’t actually know how romance worked. He was just grateful Tweek liked whatever this was that he was pulling off, and wanted to keep that up. But he was so, so fucking tired of the entire town being pink and red. It was ugly and too much fucking pressure, man.

Got the commander decks in the mail today(husband's Bday gift to me 3 days early) and went looking for collector boosters…
