Of all the things Isobel thought she'd be doing, now that she was trying to find her place in society again, burying a body in the woods was not one of them. She was supposed to be at a ball. Clearly, the control she'd worked so hard on was not set, and she'd need to move on again - it was unlikely that anyone would connect the missing man to her, but she didn't have chances to waste.

A frustrated huff escapes her as she drags her skirts out of the mud (she should have stolen some of the stable boys' breeches, but even undead she wasn't uncouth). Isobel's so busy worrying about that that she almost misses it - a crack of a twig being stepped on. She stops, stock still, eyes darting around quickly and shovel held out like a weapon.

"H-hello? Who's there? I'm terribly lost." She's trying for damsel, hoping whoever stumbles across her sees her as a thing to be rescued rather than a threat.

starting the story with an Epilogue really confused me at first

the idea of Baz with a beard/ facial hair is....

Truly as much as Baz talks and thinks about kill/ draining ppl I don't think he could... likes Simon and Penny would (and do) without hesitation but does Baz even kill any of the vampires??? (Double checking he does kill 2 of the RenFest vamps with fire but only when Simon is in deep danger -- he also does kill some vamps at the end battle but again... Simon in danger)

I don't think Simon ever really learned to regulate his emotions. Like in care it was no emotions and at Watford he needed to be extreme to go off... and who was going to teach him control? Definitely not the mage. And none of the Adults where going to stand up to his mistreatment (or even acknowledge that it was happening) and now in WS he still doesn't know how but now it isn't ok because he doesn't have magic has a back reason

"he looks like Quasimodo" (page 5) i know that in AWTWB his wings fold in more (?) but i always think that Simon looks like he has a hump back whenever he has to hide his wings under clothes

Listen, I know you will think they are idiots like I do, but Jacob can actually fix a car. Just bring it for him to look at Friday night when we go to the party.

“Like those guys can do something productive besides catching the sparkly people?” You respond to Leah with a playful smirk.

Leah has been your bff since 8th grade. College was a little rough when she stopped replying to messages, so you made sure to confront her about it. Before you made it to her house through the shortcut between the woods, you were accidentally almost getting eaten alive by Victoria and almost having a heart attack getting rescued by Leah. Although the pretty red hair was worth a compliment, your almost death was how you were able to be in the cool kids group. Except…you knew a little more than what people knew since you were on the front lines of the action. Like literally you saw Leah phase and that almost made you pass out or have that heart attack. Once Sam found out, Leah was able to tell you the rest..that included all the tea! Yeah that was a fun way to come back for the summer from college!

And no- Leah didn’t imprint for a few years later on a really cool dude. Honestly he is even better for her than Sam just because they are soulmates in all ways. You were always on her side about the Sam/Emily/Leah drama until you were in the know about the tribe. You understood all sides, but doesn’t mean it still isn’t a cringe conversation. Luckily Leah let a lot of it go when she met her imprint. They even all go out for dates nights together. I’m still mind blown about that one, but the wolves and vamps totally are 85% of that mind explosion.

Speaking of the wolves, Emily and Sam are having a big dinner for the pack and their imprints of any close friends. Sam knew you moved back to town for work and planned to stay permanently so you received an invite. You kinda didn’t want to go. Leah used to complain about them never wearing shirts and showing off. Not that you minded a great looking guy, but the image you had in your head was clones of Seth. Cute and cuddly but not very appealing unless you wanted to date your little brother.

“What am I supposed to wear anyways?” I was kinda excited to go Friday night, but was really nervous for some reason. “Wear that bubble gum pink dress you bought with the sparkly shoes.” I gave Leah an “are you for real?” Look. She responded with an excuse about the weather being nice. Also all I wear is shorts and tees so I guess I might as well wear something nicer with people I’ve never met. Still felt like a set up for a blind date or big joke.

As Friday night rolled around Leah picked you up with her boyfriend. Honestly everyone was expecting fiancé any day now but ya know. You wore the outfit picked out and curled your hair. Leah turned around while her man was driving for an inspection you assumed. “What’s that word you would say?? Oh yeah! Fabulous. You look perfect!” Wow that was a surprise as Leah doesn’t give out too many compliments. Even in this joking manner you still could tell you looked great. Your anxiety subsided as you all started singing to your fav band.

Shortly you arrived at Emily’s place where you could hear music and laughter. Also the air smelled amazing like steak. Leah said it’s a special occasion since you picked a day to attend where steak was being served. These guys can chow down so everyone usually chipped in when it wasn’t simple or cheaper meals. Emily was saint to put up with all this ruckus as Seth ran by wrestling Brady and Collin. He was actually winning and not by cheating either. You were lost in watching them while walking when you accidentally bumped into one of the supposed wolves.

Leah started cackling, “what a great way to make an entrance”. I rolled my eyes while apologizing to Jacob as I was introduced. Leah brought up the subject of the car. As it turned out the car quit this morning so Jake would have to come by and work on it at your house enough to get it to his garage or tow it. You planned to have him come by tomorrow since you are off weekends.

Leah started dragging you deeper in the back yard. You said hello to those you knew- Emily, Sam, Paul, and met Rachel. Jacob you just met too but already knew Seth, Brady, and Collin. You remember some of the guys around the Rez as kids like Quil and Jared but one guy was a stranger. As Leah formally introduced you to the guys, Quil of course put on the moves instantly- as Leah predicted. Jared said hello and promised to introduce you to Kim when she got off work and arrived within the next half hour. As I turned to the last one- wait what name? Never heard of that one but Leah said his name was Embry and he was fine (you kept that thought to yourself). Suddenly you felt scared to look into his eyes but as you did, you met his, but he just stared. Not a smile, nod, or hello. You dropped his hand from shaking it and were embarrassed thinking you must have done something wrong as you turned and went to grab a drink of water.

As you walked off you didn’t see Leah literally grab Embry by the neck and threaten his life if you were not kept healthy, happy, and safe. Embry did look incredibly frightened from her sudden declaration, but she also looked into his eyes and knew his life was made up right there. He didn’t ever tell you but he saw everything. Some of it he couldn’t wait for and others he knew life would throw you hard things but he was always there. And he wanted to always make that promise to you come true every day.

Jared in the mean time face palmed at how embarrassing his friend was and Quil was again rejected. Jake turned up then and came to his rescue by mentioning that you have a car to be worked on…and a partner would be acceptable. Embry didn’t even want to be paid for the mechanic job, he just wanted to take you on a date. Leah noticed and mentioned to ask if you can help Jacob to break the ice…but mentioned smiling would be less frightening.

Embry came over at the moment I turned back to talk to someone I actually knew. I almost bumped into him too. I started to apologize for whatever I did but at that moment he simply smiled and asked for my number. Then he look embarrassed for being quite to the point. I grabbed his hand and told him don’t worry that’s all I wanted when I saw you. He informed me that tomorrow he would like to come to help Jake so that maybe we could go out for dinner to really get to know each other after. That evening we spent a while talking, but I did beat him at monopoly. Finally the night wrapped up and as I was riding home my phone dinged.

Hey it’s me.

Embry. It’s me Embry.

The one from the party. That Embry Call.

Leah was dying laughing by this point and gasping for air as her boyfriend was telling her to breathe.

I rolled my eyes and responded.

*I know it’s you silly. Glad you didn’t forget about me.

I think that’s impossible since I think you will want to forget about me with how much I text you from here till forever.

Inspired by our other conversation. If you were put in charge of the next HHN, you can make the houses, the stories to them and the scarezones, what would you do?

Kinda like the HHN wishlist but I am curious of what you would do in the details of it. 👀

@classicdeadfan, you have no idea how much I wanted to talk about something like this! I love haunted houses, scarezones, and Halloween in general, so of course I would have tons of ideas as to how I would develop a proper attraction!

The Main Theme:

Now, I never really thought about an overall theme for HHN, mainly because I only ever thought about specific themes for houses and scarezones. Although, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward a "deranged artist" horror story theme. I know that The Director is a "deranged artist" that already exists within the HHN-verse, but I was thinking more along the lines of the Killustrator from Singapore's HHN event.

Or perhaps, Sander Cohen from BioShock.

Okay, maybe not him specifically, but an Icon character much like him. If there's anything I love, it's the concept of an artist who uses murder and other horrific ways to create masterpieces.

Another thing I also really want is Cindy to make her appearance as an Icon (she was going to be one years ago, but she was switched due to the multiple child kidnappings in Florida at the time).

So... Cindy + "Deranged Artist" = A very meta main storyline where Cindy, after years of being promised to have her own "Icon"ic debut, finally lashes out against Universal Studios for denying her the chance to shine. With a cursed sketchbook in hand, Cindy unleashes her twisted, child-like drawings into the streets, killing anyone and everyone in their path.

2. The Scarezones:

I'm going to do five scare zones for my HHN event because there were five of them last year, and honestly, there are so. many. ideas.

Halloween Horror Nights 32: Drawn in Blood - the main entrance to the entire event. Cindy has finally taken over Halloween Horror Nights as her personal canvas and the blood of those who denied her years ago is the ink of her pen. You will encounter Universal Studio employees and creative teams being torn apart, gutted, beheaded, and tortured by her living creations. Her father, the Caretaker, will also be there, supporting his daughter as she wreaks havoc. Beware of Cindy, or else you will become her next biggest inspiration!

Army of Frankenstein - the scarezone spin-off to The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, where the Bride's various experiments have now been released into the outside world. Cower in fear as you witness villagers get attacked by these man-made beasts and are forced to bow before their malevolent conqueror. Nothing will stop the Bride from hunting down all of mankind until she either wipes them out or until they surrender to her...

Vamp '32 - a "prequel" to Vamp 85. Set in the year 1932, the Great Depression has fallen upon all of humanity. Where life has become difficult, death is now far easier than ever before! Enter the party of the century as poor souls are tricked into getting easy employment for the hosts and higher-ups. In the world of undead flappers and gangsters, fresh blood is the most valuable of all!

Bugs: Unleashed! - the sequel to Bugs: Eaten Alive. After the failure and destruction of Buzzcon, the mutated bugs are now taking over the world! Step into the 1950s as a suburban neighborhood becomes a hot spot for breeding and human food supplies, and armies are just about helpless in fighting these bugs off. You better BUZZ off, or else you're dead meat...

Haunted Couture - inspired by Vanity Ball, this scarezone has turned into an exclusive R.I.P. tour of the "Gore"-geous world of fashion. Using the leftover flesh from her previous massacre (main entrance), Cindy's revenge has taken to new heights as her victims become living mannequins for all to see and scream! As someone once said: "Beauty is pain."

3. The Haunted Houses:

All of these are not in a particular order, as I am searching through wiki pages and whatnot to come up with some good house ideas.

Vikings Undead: Glory and Gore - a previous scarezone turned haunted house. Follow along with an excavation team and witness their newest discovery yet: an unknown burial mound that holds the remains of an ancient Viking king named Audun the Unyielding. Little did they know that their trespassing has cursed them all and he and his Draugr army now rises to satiate their bloodlust. Face your fears in battle and prove yourself worthy of the gates of Valhalla!

Terrifier - an IP haunted house about Art the Clown and his menagerie of gore. Venture through the dingy neighborhood as you are caught in the midst of a grisly murder spree, and Art is on the hunt! This maze is not for the squeamish or the faint of heart... Use your wits to escape, or die trying!

Universal Studios: Opera of Terror (Phantom/Dracula maze) - the sequel to the Universal Monsters line-up. A mob has risen to take down the infamous Opera Ghost as Christine Daae is in his clutches. But as the Creature from the Black Lagoon emerges from the depths of the sewers, chaos unfolds as the two iconic Monsters battle it out for Christine's love. Retail Hell (original) - it turns out that working in retail isn't all that it's cracked to be. The horror comedy maze of the HHN event, Retail Hell is a minimum wage employee's worst nightmare. A "Karen" has been infected with rabies, and now every "Karen" and "Ken" are going into an animalistic rage, ripping human flesh with their teeth! Survive your way along with the employees and security as you fight against these ballistic zombies. The main mission? Protect the manager at all costs.

Dollhouse of the Damned: Restitched - the popular haunted house from HHN 24 (2014) has finally returned with a vengeance! Revisit the horrors of the dollhouse, now with brand new scares and even more terrifying toys to be frightened of. As you enter, you will experience a realm where good toys go to die and evil comes out to play. Once again, this house is no child's play!

Horrormoon Suite (original) - during the 1970s, Cupid's Arrow Resort was once the perfect place for newlyweds to spend their post-wedding days together. To this day, it lays dilapidated... but far from abandoned. Within its graffitied walls resides a cult of "Undesirables" - people who were rejected in terms of love. Guys... GUYS!

Moi, while working on some writing, probably became the last person in the world to finding out about text to speak AI voice sites. Computer generated voices sure have come a long way, there’s only minor stumbles, mispronounced words and, of course, the lack of appropriate emotion, but still. And this is what I went and used them for XD I know, sorry for spamming you again with this, but it turned out cool and I wanted to share 🥲

A question for modders

To any modder that might see this, you know the ancient Fourth-Wall Options, the Look at Me mod?

Is there a way to make it last longer or make it an action you can cancel?

I use it a lot and it’s a bit frustrating I can’t get it to last a long animation, so I was just wondering if it’d be possible.

My #1 post of 2022

I spent entirely too much time on this, started last night and barely slept wanting to finish it only to, at the end look at it and go.... meh lol Story of my life. Anyway, Aria [this vamp gurl here] circa 1872 when she was still human, around 15 years old. Aria is a very old RP OC and I never spared a thought about her looks before she was turned into a creature of the night. But, since I’m making her character sheet for when the RP she was created for years ago starts again (not much hope, but ok...) I did stop to ponder. I wanted to make it look like an old painting, a bit on the fence about the final result. Here’s the version without a bazillion filters on it, just a contrast adjustment. So weird, I made a must of using a teen version of Aria and it ended up looking like an adult, I chalk it up to too much makeup.

And the OG pic, in case anyone is curious. Well not all was a waste of time, with this I learned how to resize and reposition objects, that book was way bigger and fatter XD So It’s a win in my book.

This is probably explained on TVD but I'd tuned out by then haha: If Steroline had been married for more than like ten minutes, how were they going to handle the human vs vamp thing for the rest of their lives? So Stefan, as a human, would eventually be an 85-year dating Vamp Caroline who, as a vampire, would still look like a teenager? Not to sound superficial because I love the idea that married couples love each other no matter how they age and all that, but wouldn't that have made their married life together a little odd? Would an elderly Stefan have started pretending in public that Caroline was his granddaughter or something?!

Yeah, I don't think they actually talked about it. It was a bit like Elena and Damon in season 6. Elena just had to take the chance to become human again even if it meant her relationship with Damon might not work out. It was the same with Stefan. He just had to take it. It was his biggest dream to become human. Although Caroline probably liked being a vampire even more than Damon did, even the choice to take the cure with Stefan was out of her hands. But when you marry someone that means you want to be with them forever, right? I think they would've stayed together as long as they could, even if Stefan aged and Caroline didn't. Nothing's guaranteed in life anyway, and they both almost died so many times. Who's to say Caroline wouldn't die first? Or that Stefan wouldn't die young, of cancer or whatever?

But, yeah, I think they should've discussed this yet I don't remember them doing it either. I could be wrong, however. I guess the writers knew they wouldn't last so they just skipped that whole conversation.

Disclaimer (which is also posted on all of my fics lol): I haven’t actually seen a lick of stranger things (yet). I’m insane. Sometimes my writer brain and neurodivergence fuse and let me understand 70-85% of a character without even glancing at their source material. I just know actually watching the show will make me worse. I do intend to watch it, but I’m trying to get the hyperfixation to calm down a little before I even attempt it. Regardless, if you give my fics a chance, I hope you enjoy them! I have fun writing them. Check em out below!

“I know, but you’re gonna love the employee discount.” She pulls on his arm until he stumbles after her.

They peruse the store for a bit. They’ve got Wham playing on the overhead speakers and while Eddie does manage not to vomit, he doesn’t bother suppressing a giant eyeroll.

He’s gonna be a snob if he works here. He knows it. He’s right to be a snob. Music is for everyone in theory, but it’s supposed to have meaning and soul, not just a catchy chorus or synth or whatever the fuck. It’s supposed to have a message. People don’t get that anymore. What’s the point of music if it doesn’t rock you to your core? A good song changes the world. Music is the universal human connector.

But, here’s the thing. He has a heart. And Chrissy’s beaming at him with wide, sparkling eyes, an ABBA record in her hands, and his heart tells him to do whatever the fuck she wants. Even if it means choking back his snob-hood. Normal!AU where Eddie would follow his best friend anywhere, including into hell--AKA Starcourt.

in the dead of night (love bites, love bites) - 3/8 chapters, 29k+

Steve bolts upright as his breathing kicks into high gear. His hand finds his bat’s handle and within seconds he’s creeping further into the house. Everything is still dark and empty, just as he left it. He creaks down the stairs.

Thud. Thud.

The front door.

He gives the bat a quick spin, warming up his wrists. No way it’s Robin or any of the kids, they would’ve called or been yelling for him by now. There’s nothing outside but silence and the dull impacts, like something heavy’s relentlessly colliding with the door.

He tiptoes down the stairs. The door shakes in its frame. He gingerly undoes the latch, takes a few quick breaths, and throws the door open, raising his bat to swing.

Standing in the doorway is a creature that looks frighteningly like Eddie Munson.

Honestly i do feel like skincare is sometimes low key the substitute for virtuous self-maintenance sold to people who reject diet/weight loss culture, and it does creep me out that so many products are snake oil that either does nothing/the same as the cheapest version with the same active ingredient OR actively makes your skin worse and perpetuates a cycle of using new products to fix the damage done by the previous ones. But that's just my little conspiracy theory

My #1 post of 2022

I think it's pretty important overall for me to keep sharing stuff about being aro even if it makes other people like. A little uncomfortable. A little weirded out. A little unsettled by experiences that aren't relatable (or they aren't ready to admit are relatable). A little exhausted with new vocabulary and new ways of thinking. A little confronted by ways they've thoughtlessly said things that might cut into targets that they didn't know they were hitting.

It's not necessarily an easily consumable thing. Discomfort was so necessary for my journey in coming to terms with it all. I kept it in the dark as new things started to wash in and i could decide if i related to them and if they meant anything to me, and i feel like it's one of the more useful things i can do for other people to provide them the same space for contemplation.
