Sanguine Osculum
Upon exploring an abandoned manor deep in the woods, you find that truth is sometimes just as strange as fiction.
CHAPTER 2
Vampire!Sam Kiszka x Reader
Warnings: Standard warnings for a vampire fic, along with 18+ themes in future chapters.
Daniel looked just as concerned to see you as he did the first time. Sam assured you that’s just how Danny always looks, and that he’s “just a nervous fellow sometimes,” and it made you feel a little better about surprising him like this. He was nice, though, and after he relaxed, the two of you got along well.
He told you more about his life before this. How he grew up alongside the Kiszka family, and was pretty much one of the family. Like a brother, is how Sam had put it. Just like Sam, he was vague on why or how they were turned, but spoke of it in the same negative way as Sam had.
“Sometimes I wish our family had been turned with us, but other times I’m glad they don’t have to live like us,” He said, his gaze lowered, “I, uh, had a sister. Sam and the twins did too.”
They left it at that, not wanting to drag out old memories they’d spent years burying. The topic soon switched to yourself, your family, and what was going on in the world. They hadn’t had a proper visitor in at least 10 years or so, and always made sure to stay away from the city that wasn’t far from them, so they were quite curious about the world.
About an hour into your conversation, there was a light knock on the door, and another young man stepped into the room. He was just as pretty as the others, but his hair was short and curly, reminding you of a dandelion before it gets blown away by the wind. He had the same amber-brown eyes as his brothers, a well groomed mustache and goatee, and a wide smile with too-sharp teeth. What caught your attention most was his outfit, though.
He wore a soft looking, red crushed velvet jumpsuit. It dipped down into a V at the front, ending at about the middle of his chest. The edges of the neckline were embroidered with beautiful stones that glimmered in the light. It was sleeveless and skin-tight, with a bishop cuff at the ankles that all gave it a flattering look on him.
“Why hello, you must be the guest I’ve heard so much about! It’s lovely to meet you, dear. My name is Joshua, but please, call me Josh,” His voice was similar to Jake’s, just a bit smoother and softer. You recalled Sam and Danny saying “the twins”, putting two and two together to assume they meant him and Jake. Josh held out his hand, and you took it.
Josh smiled and brought your hand up to press a kiss to the back of it as you introduced yourself, “What a lovely name, dear. I hope we’ve been sufficient enough hosts for you. We don’t normally get visitors anymore…”
Josh was the oldest of all the boys, and thus became their leader of sorts after being turned. He seemed far less wary around you, going as far as telling you he hopes you’ll stick around longer than their previous guests all had. After a while, you decide to ask about Jake.
“Jake is… he’s had a lot of bad things happen because of him interacting with the ah… normal population. It’s left him with a bit of a distrust of others that he hasn’t been able to work through. I hope you understand. He’s a kind man, he just needs time,” Josh explains, while the others nod. They all assure you that Jake is no threat, but you’re still hesitant to believe that fully after he threatened to gut you.
The three of you talked for what felt like hours, until the sun was beginning to set. They stood, turning to you.
“Ah, it’s probably about time for you to leave. You can’t hang around here come nighttime,” Josh said, leading you out of the room. Danny stayed behind, waving, while Sam followed you both.
“Why not?” You asked, and Sam responded.
“It’s when we go out to feed. Having a human around might be… tempting. It’s best to avoid any temptation at all than to risk it,” He smiled and opened the door for you, slowly reaching out to hold your hand and press a kiss to it like Josh had done, “I do hope to see you soon, though. Will I?”
You thought about it. You should leave and never come back. If not for your safety, then for your sanity. They were supposedly real life vampires, who could kill you if they wanted to. But… something about them kept you wanting to come back. So, you nodded and smiled back.
“Of course you will.”
You only got a short distance away from the manor before something dropped down from a tree, landing in front of you. It was Jake, who stood there and stared you down. You felt fear bubble up in your chest, unsure of why he followed you out here.
“Hello… um…”
“What do you want with my family? Why do you keep hanging around?” He asked, his jaw set in an unreadable expression.
“I just… I don’t know. I guess curiosity? I enjoyed talking to your brothers, and we have a surprising amount of things in common-“
He growled and stepped close, his hand on your wrist, “We have NOTHING in common. We are nothing like you, and you are nothing like us. The sooner you understand that and leave us alone, the better off you’ll be, and the less likely it’ll be that I leave your body in a ditch somewhere.”
He let go of your wrist and you stepped back, your heart pounding and the sound of blood rushing in your ears blocking everything else. You took a deep breath and kept your voice as steady as possible as you spoke.
“I promise I mean no harm to any of you… and despite how you feel, it was nice to meet you.”
He didn’t say anything as you walked past him to get to your car and head home.
————
You couldn’t come back for a few days, work and other life responsibilities getting in the way, so instead you did some researching into the Kiszka and Wagner families that lived there. Not much was recorded in history, especially once it got to the time they were alive for, but you did find the names of their families. They did both have sisters, one named Veronica and the other named Josie, plus their parents and some extended family. The only records that exist of them are birth and death records, stating they all died of an illness around the same time.
As you know, though, four of them didn’t technically die. Or did they? Are vampires technically still alive or are they dead? Are they something in between? You shook your head. It didn’t matter.
When you finally were able to go back, about a week had passed. You pulled your car up early in the morning and made your way down the path you had taken the last two times, the manor eventually coming into view. It was a nice summer day today, a nice breeze blowing through without it being too chilly out. You wore a loose T-shirt and jeans, with your regular hiking shoes on to help when heading back and forth through the wooded area.
You raised your hand to knock, just as you had the last two times you had been here, but jumped when the door swung open instead.
“Darling! I knew you’d be back!” Sam grinned, his pointed teeth glinting in the light as he pulled you inside, “I was worried we had scared you off for good…” He was smiling, but you could hear the genuine worry in his voice.
“I just had work and other life stuff to take care of, Sam. You haven’t chased me away yet,” You say with a chuckle. You caught sight of Jake on the second floor landing, frowning down at you. He turned and stalked away, towards the music room.
Sam turns to lead you up the stairs, presumably to where Danny was, but you stopped him, “Hey, um… maybe I should stay down here for today. Jake still seems pretty upset about me hanging around…”
His smile faltered, but he quickly fixed it, turning to face you, “He won’t do anything to you, I promise. But… if you wish to stay down here, then that’s alright.”
“I’d like that,” You say, “Plus, there are some things I’d like to ask you about.”
The both of you head into the sitting room with the large fireplace, Sam offering you a seat before sitting on the couch opposite to you.
“Well… Ask away I suppose!”
“So… does sunlight kill you? Do stakes and garlic? Holy water and crosses? Just how accurate are all the legends?”
Sam was a bit surprised by your question, chuckling a bit, “Well, um… sunlight doesn’t kill us, but it does burn like hell. As far as I know garlic, crosses, and holy water don’t do anything to us. And I assume anyone would die if you staked them, so… I guess that one still applies?”
“When you feed, do you have to drink all of the blood? And how long do you have between feeding?”
“It depends. We go out about every night to feed. If we fed on, ahem… larger things, it would last longer. And no, we don’t HAVE to completely drink all of it, but it’s hard to stop sometimes.”
Suddenly, a thought popped into your head. Sam said he’d never fed from a human, none of them have. What would it feel like to be bitten, to have your blood drank? Would it hurt? Would it feel numb? You know you shouldn’t ask, but…
“If I offered you some of my blood, would you drink it?”
At this question, Sam jumped up, stepping back, “Woah, what? What on Earth would you do that for!?”
You shrugged, “I’m curious. How many other people would be able to say they know what it feels like for a vampire to bite them?”
“That’s not a good reason, Darling! Did you not just hear me say that sometimes it’s hard to stop ourselves when feeding? What if I weren’t able to stop and drained you completely?” He asked, throwing his arms up, concerned by your words.
“I trust you,” You said plainly.
“You’ve known me for about 3 days. You can’t trust someone you’ve just met!”
You sighed and dropped the issue, knowing he was right, “Sorry, you’re right Sam.”
He relaxed, and you listened as he began telling you something about the house. Maybe he was right, but that didn’t mean you weren’t still curious. You’ll continue this line of questioning another day, you figured.
For now, you sat back and enjoyed your friend’s company.
————
When you left, Jake was waiting for you again, this time peeking into your car.
“Is this what automobiles look like now? The last time I saw one, they were more like a motorized carriage, not a weird, boxy hunk of metal. Why are the wheels so big?” He asked, causing you to chuckle. He frowned at you, “Don’t laugh at me, I’ll bite you.”
“I’m not laughing at you, Jake. I just forget sometimes that you all haven’t seen a lot of modern things,” You reassured him.
“And I’m fine with that. Most of your modern things aren’t any good. Minus some of your music, though I haven’t really heard modern music past… what do they call it…? The 90s?”
An idea popped into your head of how to get Jake to warm up to you quicker.
“Hey, how about i go ahead and bring some music here next time? Modern stuff, so you can find what you like?”
He’s quiet for a moment before shrugging and mumbling out a, “I suppose it couldn’t hurt,” before turning and heading back up to the manor.
Well, it’s the first conversation you’ve had with him that didn’t end in a threat, so you took it as a step forward. When you got back home, you created a playlist with as many songs as you could think of to show Jake the next time you came over, hoping this would finally be what got him to relax around you.
————
Jake really liked music, you learned. He was fascinated with the intricate solos and heavy beats of rock and metal, the deep and rhythmic sounds of blues, and even nodded his head to a couple pop songs. Really, all four of them were drawn to the music, all having their own tastes yet all being fairly similar when it came to certain genres.
And of course, they were interested in your phone. They’d had seen phones before, from people who’d come poking around in the past, but never had much of a chance to play around with one. You decided to bring things by for them to learn about with each visit, quickly looking forward to talking with them a few times a week. Even Jake warmed up to you quite a bit, far less hostile than he had been the first few meetings.
Josh enjoyed your company, not being as wary as Jake, but not quite as open as Sam was. The eldest Kiszka was quite the charmer, though he assured you his interests were completely platonic. He was the most knowledgeable of modern things, having slipped into the city nearby on occasion on a whim. He mentioned seeing a man in a fabulous jumpsuit once in the 70s, and he was obsessed with them, to the point he began making his own. In your opinion, he was quite talented at sewing, his own clothes being well-made and fitting him perfectly.
Danny was much less nervous having you around than at first, quickly enjoying talking with you about different topics. In particular, he seemed to like sports, golf specifically. He reminded you of your friend Dave, and the thought made you laugh. They’d get along great if they ever met.
And then there was Sam. Sam was different than the others, being desperate for interaction. In his own words, he’d been trapped in this house with no one else for far too long, and the days had begun running together a good hundred years ago. He loved piano, you had noticed, and was highly skilled. He’d play for you every time, his eyes shut as he just felt the music through his whole body.
Weeks passed by as you learned more and more about the four of them. The end of fall grew near, winter closing in with each day that passed. It was around this time that you began seeing things in shops around the city that reminded you of them, and an idea popped into your head. What better to signify your new friendships, than heartfelt gifts?
Yes, this would be perfect.

Work Count: 4093
A/N: I've never written something quite this spooky, so I hope you guys enjoy! I present to you, Vampire Danny!
Summary: Danny' has spent fifteen-hundred years on the prowl, using and discarding thousands of bodies once they've served their purpose. There's no use to give feeder's personalities or learn about their lives. Since being turned, people hold little to no significance except to feed upon. It's the blood that matters. And, as much as he tried, animals never satiated his thirst. The truth is the truth. Humans always taste better. Be careful or you're next...
Her blood pounds through her veins, the sound of it in my ears like rushing water through a broken levee. I can sense her presence. Somewhere in this city, she lives innocently, unaware that I know of her, though I don’t know her name or her history. If you believe in destiny like I do, I listen to the ether and whatever draws me to my subjects.
She is vivacious. I can feel the energy licking over my body with naive vitality, and I know. I know that it’s her I must find, that I must possess.
My veins burn as if exposed to capsaicin, the throbbing ache launching me from this emptying parking garage to move deeper into the city to find you. To watch you. To want you. I take one last glance at the darkening cityscape before lowering myself into my corvette. The sky lunges into dusk, and I know that time is of the essence if I hope to find you tonight. I use my senses to pull me through the piling traffic. I take back roads, taking turns using my intuition to guess who you are, and where you may be spending time.
You’re young.
I can sense it easily in our connection. Good. The young ones are my favorite, and they taste the best, too. I feel my canines lowering as I fantasize about you, the sharp fangs scraping against the meat of my lower lip. I enjoy the sensation, feeling most like myself when I can let my mind wander, igniting my adopted instincts. I feel my eyes focusing harder now, my awareness intensely heightened.
I never liked the city lights. To me, they’ve always been one of the more annoying inventions since the Industrial Revolution. The one thing they do provide for me, though, is the distraction, especially in a big city like this one. It’s ironic really. You’d think ample lighting would keep darkness from invading, but it’s quite simple. Bad things happen to good people no matter what. It’s a vicious cycle, but even put more simply, it’s called strategy.  I’ve known for fifteen-hundred years that with a keen sense for human nature and with just enough charisma, you can do almost anything and get anything and anyone you want. Marquee lights and logos pull gazes upward while I strike from behind. They never suspect me.
“Scar, what are you waiting for? Get your ass in here, ” one of your best friends, Jordan, practically yanked you inside of the nightclub. Something in the air felt sinister, and though you couldn’t put your finger on exactly what it was, your attention was still drawn to the darkness beyond the brightly-lit sidewalk and entrance to the nightclub. A loud, muffled beat thrummed through your body as you stepped into the large room, deafening your ears to nearby voices. The room was equipped with fog machines that casted a thick, low-hanging blanket of smoke. Bright lasers sliced beams of light through the haziness from one end of the venue to the other. From where you stood, the room was electrified with what seemed like every color of the rainbow. Somehow, though, aside from the laser show, the room itself was not brightly lit. What seemed like hundreds of bodies touched, groped and danced on the floor as you waded through the narrowing walkway.
“Grab my hand!” Jordan shouted over the music. You weren’t quite sure what she had said, but you took her hand anyway, letting her direct you through the crowd toward the dance floor. So many people this close to you made you feel extremely claustrophobic, but you silently attempted to push the feelings aside in hopes that you’d reach a pocket of open space shortly. Then, the same feeling that previously flooded your body was back again–the feeling of something watching, as if you were its prey. No one would understand what you were experiencing, and hell, you felt stupid for being so paranoid. As your gaze flicked up toward the bar, a strike of energy surged through your body, searing your vision with blinding light. Every inch of your body felt like it was burning from the inside out until you opened your eyes.
And there he was.
A man stared at you. Into you. From where you stood, you were frozen in place, staring into his eyes while people jostled you about.
“Move!” A disgruntled man growled at you, shoving past.
“Sorry…” You muttered distantly to him in apology. The man who stared at you from the bar was incredibly handsome. So much so that his beauty seemed otherworldly–like if you dared to look away from him, you’d never experience that type of attraction again for as long as you lived. He sat with a confident stoicism that struck you as being out of place, as if he were a moving statue brought to life out of a world-famous art museum. He was tall and muscular, but not overtly so. His hooked nose was Romanesque, curved in an aquiline shape. His dark hair coiled neatly around his face, making him look more like a Roman God than some unassuming man in a club. His eyes were dark and sinister and as they swept over you, it felt as if he had stripped you bare and could see all of you at once–your entire life, your family, your aspirations, your deepest fears and greatest desires. You were pulled out of your trance when Jordan tugged on your hand.
“Hey! You’re in peoples’ way. We have to move in deeper–” she shouted, but you protested.
“Wait–” You spun to look back at the man through the cluster of moving people, and when you did, he was gone. You whipped your gaze around, trying to process where he could have gone so quickly, but when you saw no evidence of his presence or his exit, you forced your legs to move forward with Jordan toward the DJ.
“D-Did you see that?” You called after her. She turned her head toward you, but her face scrunched with confusion.
“What?” She yelled over the music.
“That man!” You said, rushing up closer to her. “He was staring at me.” Jordan shook her head and shrugged.
“Probably thought you were hot as fuck!” She grinned, her perfect teeth glowing purple under the blacklight overhead. You offered her a thin smile in exchange. “Maybe you should go talk to him!” She said, beginning to move with the music. She pulled you close so she wouldn’t have to shout anymore.  “Rachel should be here soon. I’ll dance with her instead. You suck at it, anyway.” She smirked at you with a wink and released your hand. “Go! Have fun and be safe. Keep your phone on you at all times.”
The freedom to find the mysterious man felt exhilarating, and though you wouldn’t admit it to Jordan, his gaze filled you with fear, but also with unexplainable longing. “Okay,” you told her. “Are you sure?”
“Go! Get railed or something,” She chuckled. “Oh wait,” She paused, reaching into her bag. “Take these, just in case.” She reached for your hand and opened it, tucking in two condoms.
“Jordan!” You gasped with a wide grin.
“Have fun!” She winked, and filtered deeper into the crowd without you. A wave of anxiety rolled over you as soon as you were alone. The music continued to pound in your ears, and for a moment you felt quite inebriated though you hadn’t taken a single sip of alcohol yet.
For hundreds of years now, I’ve been able to cloak myself within plain sight, only revealing my true identity when my subject is within seconds of death. Others that have known me more...intimately, have usually served as my feeders. I’ve had men and women in my bed throughout the last fifteen-hundred years, many of them truly incredible lovers, but unfortunately, they’ve all ended up dead. Turns out I have very poor impulse control. I’ve gone to mortal therapists, and they’ve all told me the same thing, besides being a psychopath of course, that I’m a narcissist. I beg to differ. I believe in hedonism. I desire the finest things in life, and being immortal just gives me more time to enjoy it all.
 I make eye contact with you and know that I’ve ensnared you, though you aren’t aware of it just yet. Those beautiful bright eyes staring back at me like a deer in headlights. It’s not hard for me to return your gaze. I feel no anxiety, only determination. I shake the ice in my half-empty old fashioned and consider how the rest of my night will progress. Seems as I’m just getting started, I abandon my drink and hunt, knowing you won’t leave without finding me.
My eyes roam in and above the crowd, looking for loners–people with nowhere to be, and no one to wait for them back at home. I lock my gaze onto a young man who looks to be about my age. He’s wearing thick glasses, his hair slicked back awkwardly. He looks out of place and anxious. He holds his arms close to his body like he’s used to being viewed as an annoyance to others. Why is he here? I ask myself silently, but given that I don’t have any context, I choose to follow him instead. I like it that way. He’ll end up dead soon enough, either way. In the time being, I’ll write my own story of his life, knowing very well how it will end. I feel my fangs begin to scrape against my bottom lip, and I know that I must feed soon.
I follow the man further into the dark venue and realize he’s heading toward the bathroom. Perfect. I round the corners silently and trail him into the back, dimly-lit hallway. Back here, the noise is minimal, which makes it important to stay quiet. I’m quick, but the only way to stop people from screaming is to kill them, and I’m not interested in compelling an entire night club to forget everything. I watch as the bathroom door swings shut behind the guy, and, taking one quick look behind me for anyone watching, I disappear into the bathroom behind him, hoping I’ll get a lucky break by no one else being in any of the stalls.
Sure enough, he’s the only one inside. Standing at the urinal, he unzips his pants and relieves himself, and, being the gentleman I am, I let him finish as I pretend to use the urinal beside him. I do not look at him. I wait for him to zip up his pants and turn toward the sinks before I lunge for him, reaching to sink my teeth into his perfect neck, directly into his jugular.
“What the fuck?!” He shouts as I bite down, his hands darting upward to attempt to peel me from him, but he can’t. He is powerless under my grip. I siphon the blood from his veins quickly, feeling my body becoming revitalized with every passing second. He still manages to scream loudly, and, in the moment, I should have regretted being lazy and choosing to not compel him before feeding. I make eye contact with him through the reflection in the mirror as he looks up with horror. He’s realized that I’m all over him, my face and neck covered in his blood. He also knows that most likely, he will die. I can’t help but grin.
“If you keep screaming, you’ll be dead in the next thirty seconds,” I warn him. He doesn’t listen, of course. They never do.
“Fuck you!” He screeches, kicking against me with all of his might. They never learn, I tell myself. With a wicked grin, I reach just under his jawline with both hands, and mercifully, I throw my hands upward, decapitating him easily. It’s a shame. I watch his body fall to the floor, his face still wide-eyed with terror. His mouth still moves as I watch the life drain from his mortal eyes. Blood spurts everywhere, in every direction, and I lament over the waste of a meal. I drop the head to the tile floor, watching it roll away from me. The floor pools with delicious blood, and, if I didn’t have standards, I would have saved every drop for myself.
Someone is coming.
I turn slightly over my shoulder as I hear the hurried footsteps. Wiping my mouth with my forearm, I turn toward the door. And there she is.
As beautiful as any creature I’ve ever seen, I watch her eyes widen and her jaw drop as she takes in the scene in front of her. It’s actually quite comical to think about, and I wonder if she’s ever seen this amount of blood at one time. My hands are covered in it, my leather jacket practically dripping from crimson spatter.
“Oh my God! What the fuck!?” She screams at me, her face draining of all color. And just like that, she’s on the run, prey in the eyes of the hunter.
You weren’t sure how your feet kept up with your body in the moment. All you could remember was seeing so much blood. The man that caused it all was the same man that was staring at you earlier from the bar.  You knew better than to rush through the crowd again, knowing you’d get stuck on the way out. Instead, you booked it toward the employee only area and searched for a service entrance. You turned to peer over your shoulder far too many times, because you knew he’d be searching for you, and like the dead man in the bathroom, you knew that you’d be his next victim.
“There you are,” a man’s voice slithered into your ears as you landed on the pavement outside of the club. You realized instantly that you’d made a grave mistake by choosing this back exit. Now, no one would bear witness to your murder, and even worse, you doubted anyone could hear your screams over the noise of the club. He leaned casually against the brick wall of the building across from you. His face was shadowed in darkness. You froze in place, horrified to even ponder how he’d beaten you out of the building.
“I have a knife!” you warned. “Stay away from me!” In truth, you had nothing to defend yourself, but figured it was better to lie than to die.
“A knife?” He asked matter-of-factly, pushing himself off of the wall. Reaching into his pocket, he retrieved a pack of cigarettes and pulled one out, placing it between his lips. “Want one?” He asked, tilting the box in your direction. You flinched, stepping back. He lifted one hand to his mouth to shield from the wind as he lit the end of the cigarette. You could see the drying blood on his hands. “And what exactly do you plan to do with that knife, darling?” He asked, taking a long drag of his cigarette, the cherry glowing bright red.“Surely not to stab me.” You stood in place, trembling from head to toe. You flitted your gaze from him over to each side, considering how to exit. “You poor thing,” he teased, his voice wafting through the air like velvet. His tongue clicked  “You have no idea, do you, hm?” You watched as he took a step forward toward you, and you jumped back.
“Don’t!” You shouted at him.
“Don’t do what?” He asked slowly, cocking his eyebrow upward with curiosity. He was devastatingly beautiful, and though what you saw in the bathroom filled you with terror, something inside of you considered staying, even though your intuition should have told you better. “What are you scared of, little one? Why aren’t you running?” He asked with a knowing grin.
“I–I–” You stuttered, your eyes darting left to right as you considered where to go. “You’re gonna let me go?” You asked him, your fist bunching at your sides.
“Run along before I change my mind,” he responded matter-of-factly.
As quickly as you could, you sprinted down the dark alleyway away from him, the gravel crunching under your shoes as you ran. And then he was in front of you, smirking. When he opened his bloody mouth, you saw the fangs as they glimmered under the street lamps.
“Too slow,” he almost sang. You halted in place, and considered turning to run the other way, but as you spun on your heel, he launched forward, clawing at you with his arms outstretched. In his clenched fist, he caught your ponytail and looped it around his fingertips, yanking you backward, where you landed on your back. The force knocked the wind out of you, and your scalp ached from his grip.
“Don’t–” you begged quietly, your voice sounding foreign as it left your mouth. “Please.”
“Don’t worry, Darling,” the man said, lifting his gaze to look into your eyes. You watched as his pupils dilated, and then returned to their normal size. His gaze pierced through you as if altering your brain chemistry.
“You’ll forget everything that happened to you. You drank too much. No one touched you. You will go back to your friends, and you’ll forget what you saw in the bathroom. You’ll forget me once I finish feeding.” His hands gripped tightly around your body as he spoke. His face was crusted with dark blood, and even so, he possessed a haunting  beauty that unsettled and awoke something that lay dormant in your soul for your entire life. Feeding. He said feeding. Before you could process, he lunged forward and pinned you against the earth. An unearthly shriek exploded from your lungs as his fangs sank into your neck. In a moment of inexplicable clarity, you felt every sense ignite, your entire body burning from the inside out with literal flames licking off of your skin, illuminating the dark and grimy alleyway. Your scream morphed into a deafening howl that made even your ears ring. The roar that left your body initiated a moment of pure power and supernatural defense. In a moment that seemed to last a lifetime, you felt your entire being morph into something otherworldly, siphoning all of the energy in the atmosphere to harness this incredible, volatile power. Your captor hissed and yelped from the burns searing his body, yet he still hauled himself on top of you. An incredible calmness overrode your terror, and with simple instinct, you lifted your hand to your side, and closed your eyes, manifesting the man’s image in your head. The scene played out in your mind before it happened, and once you were satisfied, you opened your eyes, your powers having run their course, ripping his body off of yours and leaving him floating high in mid-air in the middle of the alleyway.
His eyes widened in surprise, but not necessarily from fear. They had shifted from a deep shade of chocolate brown to that of molten gold, his hair spiraling around his head in glorious display. He was terrifying, yet inarguably captivating; and yet, you were the one with power now. In one motion across your own throat with the tips of your fingers, you manifested that you’d slit his throat, and, just like before, you watched as your power took hold and echoed the command upon his neck, slicing one deep, fatal gash from one ear to the other. You watched the blood messily pour from the gash, spilling onto his clothes, down his arms, off of his body and onto the pavement below, painting it bright crimson. You watched with relaxed determination as he began to gurgle and choke on the blood, his eyes becoming half-lidded with weariness, his body beginning to convulse and seize where he hung. Power filled your body with dignified confidence, and in the moment, you didn’t worry once about the blood. You wanted him dead. Annihilated into dust.
Looking down at your hands, your mind began to return to that of human instinct. Your sudden lack of compassion had disturbed you as the power leached from your grasp.  You’d grown up having powers—you knew you had them, but it had been years since they’d appeared, and even so, you’d never been capable of harnessing this much energy before. It hadn’t been unusual for you to be able to make certain objects float, or make things move on their own. You’d kept this gift to yourself all of these years, never revealing the truth to anyone. This instance, however, was something very new, and, without a single drop of alcohol in your system, you knew two things were true. You were sober and that this was very, very real, and the man hanging in the air above you was most definitely not human.
You lifted your gaze up at him, half-expecting him to be dead. And when you did, he opened his eyes, smirked, and then laughed. You watched as he spat the blood dismissively at the ground before he straightened easily and stopped trembling from feigning death and began to cackle as if he’d seen something incredibly amusing. When you made eye contact with him, he grinned widely, his teeth painted deep maroon as blood dripped out of his mouth and off of his chin. His fangs glinted off of what little light was expressed from the street lamp on the path behind the club.
“Wow,” he finally said, scoffing. “I don’t know what I expected, but it sure as fuck wasn’t that,” he admitted with a chuckle. “Color me impressed!” You watched in horrified confusion, speechless as to how the man hanging in front of you could still talk, let alone breathe.  Peering down at your hands, you silently questioned how you were able to defend yourself from him.
“What are you?” You asked him maliciously, balling your fists at your side. You watched as he casually crossed his arms across his chest.
“I could ask the same thing about you, sweetheart.” He smirked widely, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “Are you a witch?” He asked.
“I–I  don’t know,” you answered defensively. “What are you?” You asked again, venom laced between every word. He huffed a chuckle through his nose.
“You haven't figured it out yet? I took you as being much smarter than that, Scarlett.” Your attention snapped upward as he said your name for the first time.
“How the fuck do you know my name?” You asked him, practically hissing as you spoke.
“Was it a secret?” He asked, his lips turning upward in a smug expression.
“Who the fuck are you!?” You shouted lifting your arm in front of you, ready to will your power back in place.
“I’m Danny. Daniel if I’m in trouble,” he answered simply. “Friends call me Danny.” He spoke as if he’d sat down for a cup of coffee with you. How could someone so malicious and evil be so careless? You let silence drift for a few moments. “Let me walk you through it, Darling,” he sighed. “Can you let me down first?”
“No!” You answered immediately.
“Do I still scare you?” He asked. “It’s the fangs, isn’t it?” You watched as he opened his mouth, noticing the prominent canines that protruded into sharp points at either side. Then suddenly, they morphed back into normal, human shape. “And the blood?” He asked. “You can use your witch powers to clean it off, can’t you?”
“You’re a fucking murderer,” you hissed through your teeth, squeezing your hands into fists at your side. “I’m not doing shit for you. I should call the police.”
“Honey, if you wanted an aftershow, you really should have just asked. I’m hungry anyway, and, while I was about to feast on you, I don’t prefer witch blood.”
“I’m not a witch,” you spat at him. He chuckled menacingly.
“And I’m not a fucking vampire.”
With as much power as you could muster, you closed your eyes and imagined him being slammed into the earth. Hard. You turned and prepared to walk away before opening your eyes and letting it be done, hearing a loud thud on the ground behind you. Something in you had shifted, the terror morphing quickly into amusement, a wide grin plastered across your face as you walked away from him, listening to the moans and groans that escaped from his body as he picked himself up from the pavement.

The cold breeze whips around me. It wraps its hands around my skin while its teeth sink into my bare legs, chilling me to the bone. I instinctively grab the thin material of my black silk robe to pull around me, hoping to ward off the frigid air but it did little to suppress the shivers that wracked through my body.
The alleyway I stand in is dimly lit from the help of one of the streetlamps across the street. It brightens the entrance, leaving the rest of the alley in almost pure darkness. Its light casts an eerie russet brown color along the stone wall, making the shadows that dance upon it appear watery--almost like they’re an illusion to the eye.
I draw my attention away from the street and cast my gaze above me where I see the moon at its full strength in its cycle. Its light casts a halo around itself, adding its own light to the dark night sky. Distant clouds crowd around it, entangling and smothering its light.
A leaf clicks and tumbles down the street and the breeze moves the branches of the trees making its branches look like long skeletal fingers trying to pluck any sort of life it can grab back into their bare open limbs.
I lean my head against the cold stone of the wall, which makes me cringe when I feel its bite against my skin. I close my eyes for a moment, in hopes to prepare myself for the night ahead of me. I can hear the subtle bass from inside the club and feel my pulse matching the rhythm.
Right as I shut my eyes, I instantly opened them upon hearing the sound of the back door opening. The loud music from inside the club pours into the alleyway. I turn my head to the side and see Yesenia (or Senie as I like to call her) but around here, she is otherwise known as her stage name, Jupiter.
She steps out of the threshold of the building, the door shutting behind her with a small click as it latches back into place, drowning out the music and making it sound muffled.
Yesenia is dressed in similar attire as me and I watch her hands frantically reaching for the fabric of her own robe– an orange creamsicle color. The robe slides down a bit, exposing her slim shoulders and prominent collar bones that would make any nineties supermodel jealous.
If it wasn’t for her immaculate bone structure that I always swore were crafted by the gods themselves, then it would surely be the long set of dark legs that seemed to almost glisten in the moonlight. In fact, I’m positive they actually were glistening since she always doused herself in body glitter before going on stage. Even without her heels on, she always seemed to tower above people.
As she approaches, I catch a glimpse of the creamsicle lingerie she has hidden beneath her robe and a small smirk forms on my lips. I can make out her features more clearly as she walks to the middle of the alleyway where the dim light illuminates her face. I see her long, dark dreadlocks fall to her waist where gold cuffs are threaded into each lock. I take in her prominent, high set cheekbones and her plump lips which are painted with a thin layer of lip gloss. Her golden honey eyes glisten in the moonlight and I see she has on her typical makeup which consists of a honey colored smokey eye, long lashes and pink blush set along the apples of her cheeks. Even after knowing Yesenia for over five years, I sometimes am still struck by her beauty. I often think if I wasn’t a fellow dancer– let alone one of her best friends– I might risk it all just to spend one night with her.
She walks closer to me; I hear her mutter a faint curse at the harsh weather before she flashes a quick smile which I return. She comes to stand beside me, and I see her hand reach into the pocket of her robe as she fetches out a carton of cigarettes and a metal lighter. She pops the cigarette between her lips and brings the lighter up to its end. I hear the flick of her finger over the lighter as she tries to light it but because of the wind, she seems to struggle. I sigh and playfully roll my eyes before I step to the side of her and cup my hand around the end of the cigarette to block out the wind. The end of the cigarette finally sparks, and I watch the cherry glow as she inhales and then slowly lets the smoke roll out from between her lips.
I come to stand back beside her against the wall and watch as her head falls back against the stone, her eyes darting up to look at the sky. “Full moon tonight huh?” Yesenia asks while passing me the cigarette. I pluck it from her fingers and see the faint stain of her lip gloss around the end before I pop it between my own lips. I inhale the smoke, feeling the calming effects of it enter my body and then slowly exhale while leaning my head back against the wall. “Guess so,” I say, my voice coming out a bit low and gravely from the smoke. I hand the cigarette back to Yesenia and see the soft curve of her mouth stretch up into a small smile as she turns her head to face me. “We’re gonna have a hell of a night then.”
“Don’t get me started,” I groan, clutching the robe closer against my skin as another gust of wind chills me to my very bones and whips my hair around me.
“Don’t start with that. You know that it brings out the good customers,” she says, giving me a cunning smile, plucking the cigarette from between my fingers.
“Trueee” I say drawing out the word, “but we also know it can sometimes brings out the bad.”
Yesenia playfully rolls her eyes and chuckles. “Well, we can only hope a rich prince comes in tonight and we can walk away with six months’ rent.”
I arch a brow her way and tilt my head to the side. “Now that would make my night worthwhile.”
“And even if that’s not the case and we do get some…handsy customers, that’s why our security is top notch and that’s why we have Steve working tonight.”
A soft chuckle escapes me, and I nod. “Thank god for Steve.”
“Thank fucking god for Steve,” she replies back.
The door opens again, and I see Joe poke his head out, the wind blowing his brown hair over his face. “Venus! Jupiter! There you are! Jupiter you’re on in ten and Venus you have a private lap dance in fifteen up in VIP– God damn it's cold out here! Go on now, can’t have our two best dancers out here getting frostbite.”
The side of Yesenia’s face turns up in a smile and she drops the cigarette out of her hand, letting it fall into the gravel before stomping on it with her fluffy orange slipper that matches her robe. A small grin comes across my face at the sight, and I follow after her.
She walks back towards the door, stopping just before Joe as she flashes him one of her brilliant smiles and places a soft hand atop his shoulder. “Do you really mean it? We’re the best dancers here?” The top of Joe’s cheeks turns red, and he smile softly at her. “Of course I do. You two are our seasoned veterans. There’s a reason why people come in here and ask for the two of you by name.”
Yesenia smiles up at Joe and kisses him on the cheek before turning down the hall to the dressing rooms where the music surrounds us and the familiar bass of it booms into my chest. I follow her down the hall after giving Joe a small nod but notice his gaze cast on Yesenia as she breezes down the hallway.
Once behind the door of the dressing room, I watch Yesenia settle into her chair and grab her makeup bag. I settle myself beside her on my own chair and cast her a look. “What?” she asks, leaning into the mirror that runs the whole length of the wall as she starts to retouch her makeup. I let out a deep sigh and lean forward in my chair, propping my head on my hand as I continue to look at her. I can sense her getting annoyed but can see her trying to fight the smile that threatens to play on her lips.
“Oh, I’m just waiting for you to stop teasing him and finally give in– I mean you’ve seen the way he looks at you right?” I say arching a brow.
Yesenia rolls her eyes and sighs, as she grabs for her mascara and starts to apply it to her long lashes. “Oh, I know V, but it would be wrong.”
“And why’s that?” I ask, sitting back in my chair, crossing a leg over my other.
“Because we work together.”
“So?” I say with a casual shrug. Yesenia lets out another sign and sticks the brush of her mascara back in her tube before angling her body towards me in her chair. “So, it would be wrong and not professional.”
I throw my head back and laugh. “Oh please, let’s be real now. Is this what you would call professional?” I ask, waving a hand to gesture to the room where other dancers float in, retouching their makeup, adjusting their outfits or strapping on the eight-inch heels that I’ve become so accustomed to wearing. A small frown appears on Yesenia's face, “Is what we do not professional to you?”
“Oh, I didn’t say us.” I say pointing a finger between the two of us. “We’re fucking brilliant. I just meant all of this… It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, you know.”
“Oh, trust me I know,” she says, grabbing another brush from inside her bag. She fetches out an eyeshadow pallet and starts to blend some of the eyeshadow onto her lid. After a few moments she finally says, “he’ll live.”
I glance her way and give a small nod of my head. “Then let’s hope we all live through tonight.”
Just as predicted, The Inferno was wild and rampant with energy. Yesenia had left before me to the stage which left me a few minutes to get myself ready. I had given myself a once over in the mirror, before I stepped out onto the floor. I had dressed myself in my staple colors of red and black– a color combination I had been assigned at first but now had grown to love.
I decided on a sheer red set that had lace that left little to the imagination. Running along the edges of it was black lace material and matching bows that fell between my breasts and the side of my hip bones where my black and red G-string was placed. I then chose one of my favorite dance heels. They were eight inches but nothing I wasn’t used to. They were all black except for under the toe box and along the back where it was red with black laces zigzagging through it, making the heel appear to be laced as a corset might be.
At first when I was a baby dancer, I was shy, timid and often not a fan of having to reveal so much of myself but now I felt nothing but confident.  Every time I put on whatever set I had decided on for that night and let myself slip into a different persona of who I was, it left me feeling invigorated.
 I had come to realize that while not only my dancing and my body, which to me was lackluster at best–even though Yesenia would often comment on my curves and how she was jealous of them–it was the energy I could conduct from a room. This sort of power I had over them.
I started to channel that power into my movements even when I wasn’t dancing. I would walk with my head held high, my shoulders back and flaunt myself. There was a thrill in this game– this sort of power play that I wholly had control over.
Most of the customers were wealthy businessmen who in their corporate lives had the upper hand but here, I was in charge. And something about having complete strength over myself and my body was true bliss.
In a way, my dancing is what made me feel the most powerful and confident. There was something so primal about letting myself go and not having to second guess myself when my body decided on what movements it would make. I think that with that, came a lot of trust with myself. If there was a move I was doing or wanted to do I would go for it whereas when I first started dancing, I let my mind get the best of me and I would look sloppy or a bit unsure and skittish.
When watching other dancers, you could truly tell who the ones were who got the most out of it and who actually enjoyed it. But don’t get me wrong, part of that can be utter bullshit.
For me and many other dancers, we didn’t go into this thinking, ‘oh yeah, this is fun and cute, and I just love to dance’. Maybe for some, but not for most. You go into this work simply because you need the money, and this was the best thing you could think of to get it. I know that was the case for me.
I first started dancing because my day-to-day job was simply not cutting it and I wasn’t able to afford day to day expenses and had to scrape money together just to afford rent, ask friend or family for a few extra bills here and there or shit—I even would sell different services to men which now makes me cringe but at the time, I didn’t bat an eye to it.
I know other dancers who started dancing straight out of high school to be able to afford things like tuition, rent or even to provide for their family and children. You hear the word ‘hustle’ being thrown around in clubs and that’s because this is what this work is. It’s all about the hustle. You make sure that when you’re going up on stage or doing a dance that’s one on one, that you give it your all because at the end of the day, it truly is all about the money you can rake in. Because if you go up there and your dance is sloppy or you look lazy, well then shit, you’re not going to go home with more than a few hundred bucks in your pocket, if that.
There were some dancers who had a dance background and when watching them, you could see the subtle implications of that through their movements. I found it really interesting to see the different blends of dance shine through when it came time for them to perform.
There were other dancers that were self-taught or practiced in a pole studio weekly to keep up their endurance and strength. Some of them trained specifically in pole and others had a variation of ‘club’ styled moves like freestyle, boudoir dance, contemporary or even aerial silks. I personally had dance experience in contemporary but then found a pole studio where I went and practiced. I mostly stuck to pole but loved freestyle and boudoir.
I had always loved dancing from a young age. I found myself drawn to all different genres of music and loved to let my body take over and ride the wave of the music. I think now as I’m older and have been in this industry for a while, I can sometimes find it a bit hard to find the pleasure I once found in my dance. I think part of that is why I often went to the dance studio a few times a week because there, I was letting myself dance for me, rather than for others.
My dance became my own sort of therapy. When there were days that were hard or I was going through something that was emotional, I would often end up at the studio. I was not often found of having to outwardly express my emotions or verbally expressing them but when I danced, I was able to convey everything that was on my mind and every emotion that I felt. I had lost count of the times I had gone into a dance and ended up crying at the end because I was finally able to feel those emotions and work through them. It was the one place where I could let myself be without any shame or fear and just be me.
While the hustle is very much real, every night is different though. Some days you may walk out with a few thousand depending on who the customers were, their line of professor, etc. Other nights, it could be slow, and you may only end up with a hundred. It’s all a gamble at the end of the day but you come into this play with the hustle always in mind.
Yesenia was a few years younger than me and the reason she started dancing was because her mother was absent for most of her life and didn’t really know this first thing about being a mother and her father she had never knew. She had a brother named Yasin who was significantly younger than her and whenever she talked about him, I could tell just how much she loved him.
When she started dancing and all the money would instantly go to him or be spent on things that he needed. She was the main provider of that family. Once she started working at The Inferno and the money came in more consistently, she set up an account in Yasin’s name and put every extra dollar into it. She was the most genuine soul I had met in a long time, and she truly wore her heart on her sleeve, and I had nothing but respect and pure admiration for her.
Whenever I would see Yesenia dance, I would find myself struck in awe at the way she moved her body along to the rhythm of the music. I could tell that she would fully sink herself in and let her body do what it pleased rather than what her mind was telling her. For me it was the same. I reveled in the music that surrounded me and let the beat of the music guide me.
I know it can be bad to hear that your body is an ‘object’ but after I had gained full and complete power from it, I knew that it was a weapon. I loved sinking into a dance and watching the reactions of customers, knowing I had nothing but their full attention with the way they sat forward in their chairs, or their eyes gazed longingly and lustfully at me, knowing that they want me but I’m still in a way out of reach. It’s like riding a high of the strongest drug but for me the drug is simply the music and the way my body entangles with it.
Having full control over my body was something I learned the hard way after working at different strip clubs in my younger days after some of the men would get a little too handsy and management would turn a complete blind eye to it and only have to say that this was ‘business’ and that they had to make money some way or another. Fucking pricks.
The Inferno was a complete one-eighty to those places I had worked at before. It was a higher end club which meant that they had a strict list of rules and restrictions about who they let in as well as what ‘appropriate’ interactions meant between dancers and customers. For instance, customers are not allowed to touch a dancer while receiving a lap dance, only if the dancer guides their hands to their body while dancing or giving them the go ahead. But, if their hands drifted to certain areas without the dancer's consent, they were kicked out and placed on a blacklist.
We had strict security guarding the mains doors as well as lined up against certain sections inside the building. They always kept an eye out on customers who may overstep boundaries as well as keeping an eye out on the safety and well-being of our dancers. Not to mention, if a dancer was giving a private dance, they always had a mic placed discreetly on them where a live feed was casted into the ears of one of the guards nearby in case they had to intervene if things went south. Safety was something that was a top priority for the owner, Jimmy.
Jimmy was a sweet older guy with a receding hairline which he tried to cover up with a horrible comb over, but no one would tell him that to his face. He always dressed the same, an expensive suit where his pot belly poked out the edge of his pants and a golden chain hanging around his neck where sprinkles of his chest hair could be seen. If you couldn’t see Jimmy coming, you could always smell him or hear him. He always wore strong cologne that mixed in with the smell of cigar which was often held between his fingers. He had a strong New York accent and at times I could make out the sound of his boisterous laugh at the bar as he mingled with his workers or customers even if he wasn’t in eyesight.
At first when I met Jimmy, I was rather intimated but came to realize that he was nothing but a giant teddy bear with a kind soul. He would always bring flowers into the dressing room and place them on a dancer's vanity when it was their birthday, work anniversary or any sort of big accomplishment they had made. There was often a sweet note along with a fairly expensive gift which could be jewelry, new dance shoes– I mean hell I remember one time when he paid off one of my fellow dancers' tuition to get her through med school.
It was the same thing with our security guards, while they obviously had to appear tough and have the whole ‘I could break your neck with one finger look’, they were all sweetheart’s deep down.
A knock at the dressing room alerted me that it was my time to make my way to the floor. I took another glance in the mirror, ensuring that I looked stage ready. My makeup was complete with a heavy black smokey eye with matching red lipstick. I had curled my dark hair into loose waves where it fell against my back. I deemed myself good and opened the door of the dressing room and was immediately met by the loud music, radiating through the space.
I could faintly hear the sound of my heels across the floor as I made my way into the main area of the club but then it was lost to the loud music. I held my body high, exerting nothing but confidence as I strode my way through where crowds of people were gathered around poles, money in hand–or leaving their hands– as dancers worked the stage. The lights were angled onto the stage and flashed along to the music in various colors.
I glanced over at one of the stages, seeing Yesenia working her magic, her long hair swinging over her back side as she rolled her hips against the pole. I smiled to myself and kept on walking, letting my hips sway back and forth as I passed different parties.
I made my way to the VIP section where Tony stood in front of the rope blocking off the section and Enzo stood at the booth, keeping track of all the high-end or high-paying customers. They each greeted me with a smile, and I stopped to the side of Enzo before entering the section. I grazed a hand over his shoulder before he stepped behind me, seeming to appear flirty to any onlookers as he started to find a place to mic me. “What do we have tonight?” I asked over my shoulder into his ear. He leaned his face over my shoulder and whispered into my ear as I felt his hands slide up and down my body, trying to find a good place to discreetly place the mic.
“Looks like you’ve got a private dance in the backroom, older gentlemen but doesn’t seem like he’s anything to worry about and if he is, I’ll know,” Enzo says with a wink. “I think after that, they just have you working VIP for the rest of the night.”
“Any customers I should keep an eye out for?” I feel Enzo’s hand stop on my hips and he gives a tug on them, turning me around to face him. His body towers over me and I see his green eyes rake over my outfit. If I didn’t know him so well and knew that this was his job, I would’ve slapped him for looking at me in such ways, but his eyes didn’t show an ounce of lust in them.
I could see his brows bunch, looking like he was a bit frustrated as he tried to find a good spot. Enzo leaned into me, letting his body push against mine while his hands continued to wander. “I don’t mean to start rumors Venus but, I hear there’s some sort of prince here tonight,” he whispered into my ear. I silently cheered in my head and immediately knew that once I spotted Yesenia that I would indeed tell her she was correct in guessing that a prince had come to the club tonight.
“What kind of Prince?” I asked.
“Honestly, not a clue. Not a lot of detail was given but it seems to check out.”
“What makes you assume that?” I ask frowning.
“He came here with his own fucking bodyguard V,” Enzo says, as he kneels down in front of me. I cock a brow as his eyes fixated on my G-string and I already know what he has planned.
“You’re fucking kidding, Enz. You’re going to mic me up there?” I ask, my eyes wide. Enzo looks up at me and the picture of his dark hair hanging over his green eyes, threatens a shudder through my body. Enzo had always been devastatingly handsome.
“I’m sorry V, I think it’s the best I can work with tonight. You chose this sheer little piece and this bow here in the front is a good spot. May I?” He asks, holding up the tiny mic between his fingers. I roll my eyes and nod. “This might be the most action I’ve gotten in months,” I say with a laugh. I hear Enzo chuckle as he slips two of his fingers under the edge of my panties, right where the bow is. “Awe I’m flattered V but too bad I tend to bat for the other team. Sorry for getting your panties in a knot.” I scoff and give him a playful smack to his cheek which makes him flash a smile. I feel his fingers dig a bit into the fabric as he positions the mic and then with his other hand tapes it into place.
Enzo stands up to his full length and peers down at me, licking his lips. “You know you sometimes make my job very…difficult.” I say, giving him a knowing look. Enzo smirks and leans a hand on the booth, scooting his body so his chest is pressed right against mine. “Oh, I know, V,” Enzo spoke into my ear, “but in case you were wondering, I still like to play.”
I felt my breath catch in my chest, hearing his words roll off his lips in a sultry tone. “W-what?” I ask, suddenly feeling a bit flustered. Enzo casts me a cunning smirk and whispers into my ear, “You know, I can always ask Chris if he’s feeling…open.”
My face must’ve given away my sudden shock because I then felt him place a gentle hand on my shoulder. “Hey, I’m just throwing it out there V, you don’t need to answer right now. Just think about it and let me know. And if not, then we can forget this conversation ever happened.”
I stare up at Enzo for I don’t know how long until I finally look away. “Right um,” I swallow, “I’ll keep that in mind. I-I’m just gonna,” I say pointing a finger to the VIP section behind him. Enzo throws me a knowing look but doesn’t say anything as I begin to walk away.
“Hey V, just think about it, oh– and don’t fart into the mic!” I look over my shoulder and flip him off before giving Tony a look that says, ‘please help me because I’m going to throttle your brother’. Tony just gives me a grin and then nods his head while holding open the rope that leads to the VIP section.
I walk into the VIP section where a few of my fellow dancers are. Some are entertaining small groups while they dance on a pole or in someone’s lap and others are merely chatting with foreseeable customers. The lighting in the VIP section is much different than the main floor. Instead of lights that flash various colors, the lights are turned down and are a deep shade of red. I’m not sure if Jimmy sometimes intentionally assigns me here because one of my staple colors is red but sometimes it feels purposeful. Maybe it's because I have now assigned the color red with confidence and pure power but whenever I’m in this section, it doesn’t feel like an act. All my movements feel strong and meaningful as if my body can relax. And maybe it is all in my head but sometimes I’ll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and love to revel in the way the red lights seem to cling to my body, illuminating it in all the right places. Sometimes I get so lost in my dancing when I catch a glimpse of myself and the world drowns itself out and I realize that I am now not dancing for them, but for myself. Sometimes I get the most pleasure out of my dancing when I let my hands explore and linger on my own skin.
I relax my shoulders and keep my head held high, exerting nothing but self-assurance as I saunter over to the back of the section. I make sure to cast alluring, inviting glances to any onlookers who happen to catch my eye as I step to the back where Aaron– another bouncer– is placed before a private room, concealed by a dark red curtain.
I continue my path, my head on a constant swivel while I continue to give small smiles or a nod of my head. I am only a few feet away from the back but my steps falter slightly when I see a tall man with his back turned to me. He had dark curls, some of which laid down his back while the other half of it was concealed in a bun that rested on the back of his head. He wore a simple black shirt that clung tightly to his body showing off the muscles along his back and on his arms, which appeared to be crossed over his chest. Even with his back turned, I could not only see but feel how strong he was. I felt it lap over me like the crest of a wave crashing into the sea.
His body bent forward a bit and it was then that I realized someone sat before him. I was unable to see who it was but caught sight of a hand, dangling over the armchair of the couch, loosely holding a glass of dark liquor. My eyes dance to the ring on one of his fingers. It has a silver band with intricate details and engravings. In the middle of it is a large onyx stone.
My eyes continued to sweep upwards, and I noted the suit he was wearing. Red with a swirling black pattern. I feel my facade slip and my eyes narrow in on that very detail and it conjures different thoughts into my head. Did he know these were my colors? Was this purposeful? Is this to get my attention?
These questions pelt into my head and I’m curious to know more about who this person is. I find it funny and rather shocking when I realize I want to go and learn more about this person when usually it is flipped and people come, wanting to know more about me. I know I should continue walking but my feet have stopped dead in their tracks. I should move…but I can’t. My body won’t allow me the privilege.
My lingering gaze continues, and I see a sweep of long dark hair as the person shifts. It doesn’t appear to be as dark as the man before him and instead of curls, his hair is seemingly straight except for small waves that flow through it. His hair appears to fall just below his shoulder, and I can see how it moves with every movement of his head. I catch sight of the corner of his jaw and the side of his lips, the bottom one plump in comparison to the top.
His mouth seems to move at a mile a minute, but I take note of the muscle jumping in his jaw and how his lips appear to be drawn in a straight line and when he does talk, it seems like he is talking through his teeth. Whatever the topic of the conversation is, it doesn’t seem to be going according to plan.
I suddenly hear my name being faintly called from Aaron, but it sounds drowned out and I know it’s not because of the music. I let my eyes linger for a few more seconds before I hear my name again, this time more loudly. “Venus!”
I glance at Aaron but can’t seem to pull my eyes away from the two figures before me. I focus my attention back on them and I can see the man who is sitting has stopped talking. Even with the music blaring, it seems like the room has now fallen deathly quiet.
His lips are now drawn tight and when I glance at his hand, I swear I can see his knuckles turning white from his grip he has on the glass. I’m not sure if they were aware of my presence but now it seems like they are because the man who has his back to me, slowly turns and looks at me from over his shoulder. I feel my breath hitch as I take in his dark features. The slope of his nose juts out and comes down at a slant which seemingly points down to his pair of plump lips. They aren’t necessarily small, but they aren’t big either and seem to fit his face perfectly. If it weren’t for his breathtaking features that catch my eyes it his eyes. His eyes are dark, almost appearing to be black, not a normal black– solid black.
The corner of his mouth turns up in a small smile and I can feel his eyes drinking me in from head to toe. His mouth parts open and I watch his tongue dart out and run along his bottom lip. He seems to be getting carried away, but he snaps out of his daze and his body shifts to the side. When he moves, I am finally able to see who sits before him.
I already knew my breathing was growing fractured but now it was completely knocked from my chest because there sitting on the couch and slowly rising to his feet, was the most beautiful man I had ever seen.
I greedily let myself drink him in. My eyes swept over every single detail of him, wanting to engrain every piece of him into my memory. I was correct in my assumed appearance of his hair and the shape of his lips that turned upward in the corners but seeing him as a whole was utterly devastating.
He stood shorter than the other man before him and while I was able to feel the strength of the man even with his back turned, nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to the power that surrounded this man. I felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me when I noticed the red lights dancing across his olive skin, making it look like he was almost glowing. His long hair was pushed back to frame his face which while appearing round, still produced strong angles. His hand came up to his chin where his thumb swept along his sharp jaw which was dusted in a small layer of stubble, and I wondered if he too was analyzing me as deeply as I was him. I lifted my eyes up further and noted his strong nose that seemed to come down to a perfect point at the tip.
This whole time I had been avoiding his eyes, but I finally let my eyes meet his and when I did, I could feel my blood start to swirl. The warmth traveled up my arms, starting with a tingle over the top of my hand before it snaked all the way up and wrapped itself around the back of my neck. Even though my body was burning hot, I somehow still managed to shiver.
His eyes too were dark and accented but long dark lashes that touched the hollow points under his eyes. The hollowness of his eyes made him appear tired, lifeless, hungry…starving. I caught a flash of something dancing behind his eyes that I couldn’t identify that set me on edge. My mind was telling me to be cautious, but my entire body felt like it was in a frenzy.
For reasons unbeknownst to me, my hands started to curl into fists at my side as we silently stared at one another. My body felt like it was vibrating, and my feet were telling me to go to him– approach him. Go. Go, Venus. Go to him. I felt my feet start to move but I was only able to manage a step before I felt a hand gripping my arm.
“Venus! What are you doing? You’ve got someone waiting.” My head instantly snaps to the side, clearing me of the fog that settled itself around my mind. I look at Aaron and blink a couple times. “Sorry, I- I don’t know actually,” I say, shaking my head.
“All good V,” he replies and then gently tugs on my arm to lead me to the private section of the VIP room. I look over my shoulder at the formidable two men, but my gaze quickly goes to the man in the red and black suit. I catch his eye and do a double take because if I’m not mistaken, his eyes looked red at first glance. When I look again, I frown and shake my head as they appear to now look normal, but I notice his gaze is lingering on Aaron’s hand wrapped around my arm. It must be the red lighting. My eyes are playing tricks on me.
I walk the short steps to the section, the bouncer holding open the curtain for me and giving me a nod of his head as my feet stop just before the small step to the room. I suddenly stop, feeling a tingle at the base of my neck and traveling down the length of my spine. Venus, a voice–no–voices whisper into my ear. It’s faint but when I hear it, it feels like a phantom wind stirs the strands of hair at my side. My breathing hitches and my hands once again bawl up at my sides.
“V? You alright there love? Do you feel okay?” Aaron asks, placing a gentle hand on my lower back. I look at his face and see his brows knitted together, his features washed in concern. I swallow and nod, “Yeah, I’m fine. My uh…my heels felt weird for a second,” I say, trying my best to sound convincing even though it doesn't sound believable even to my own ears.
Aaron gives me another weird look but doesn’t comment. Instead, he just nods his hair and slides the curtain further open for me.
 I step onto the step and take another glance over my shoulder at this mysterious man who has completely ruptured my attention and when I do, I see his dark gaze is set firmly on me. The corner of his lip tugs up in a smirk and he raises his hand clutching the glass up to me and takes a sip. I don’t have time to process what that could even mean before the curtain falls and shuts him out. All that I’m left with is that same tingling sensation traveling up the length down the length of my spine.

A/N: this is my first time writing where characters aren’t human! hope it turned out okay for the ending to gretaween! (granted a teensie bit late….)
~~~~~~~~~~~♥️~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are you sure about this? It can’t be undone.” Danny asks as he sets up for the ritual.
“Yes, I know.” You nod, fiddling with the amulet hanging from your neck.
Although he promised you owed him nothing, you wanted to pay Danny back for saving your life exactly one year ago today. The memory still foggy in your mind, the scars tattered along your skin would be permanent reminders of the day you almost lost it all. Coming home from a Halloween party, your drunk boyfriend insisted on driving home, taking back roads to avoid being pulled over due to his state of intoxication. He’d failed to slow down around a corner, flipping the car into a ditch. All you remember after that point is the loud ringing echoing through your mind and then nothing. You woke up inside of a cabin you hadn’t recognized surrounded by acres of woods, and a tall man who’d comforted you in a state of panic. He says it took you 3 months to recover, in which time you’d been reported as missing, until you never returned, pronouncing you deceased. It took you 2 months from that time to ask Danny how he saved you.
“I cut my finger with glass from the windshield and pressed it to your lips.”
You’d come to realize he wasn’t human, he was a product of something supernatural. He’s a vampire, and today you’d join him, allowing your love to flourish.
Danny lights fire to the sticks and logs laying in the fireplace before returning his attention to you.
“Y/N, you don’t have to. You know I’ll love you either way.”
“I know, but I want to. I want our love to be easier for both of us. Without you I wouldn’t be experiencing your love, for several reasons.” You walk towards Danny, dropping the amulet to your chest and placing your hand on his arm.
He pivots to face you, taking your chin between his index and thumb. He leans in, lips dangerously close to making contact, but instead he speaks.
“We should get ready.” He finally breaks the tension, pressing his lips against yours with fervor.
Danny grabs your hand and guides you to a blanket he’d put down on the floor.
“So, what’s the process again?” You timidly ask. You know the answer, but you liked hearing the words leave his mouth.
“We make love until you’re weak, and I nurse you back. Just like I did that night, except I need to taste your blood in exchange.” He grabs a knife from the kitchen and returns to your side, placing the knife on the floor beside the blanket.
His hands toy with the hem of your shirt, eyes searching yours for an unspoken answer, to which you silently respond. Danny brings your shirt over your head, dragging his fingers along the supple skin of your sides. Your chest sits naturally underneath the fabric, nipples growing hard in the temperature change. Danny lets your shirt drop to the floor as he cups each breast, rolling your tender nipples between the pads of his fingers.
“You’re ethereal. Truly a masterpiece I’ll never grow tired of…” His voice trails off, his lips connecting back to yours.
Danny’s hands smooth down your frame, catching his thumbs in the waistband of the shorts that were once his. He pulls them down past the wide of your ass, allowing them to fall around your ankles. He steps out of his sweatpants, the only article of clothing he’d been wearing.
“Come with me, darling.” Danny holds his hands out for you to grab as you step out of the shorts, letting him guide you towards the blanket.
He helps lay you on the blanket, allowing you to get comfortable before he joins you.
“C’mere, I miss you.” You reach your arms up and grab your fingers at him.
Danny brings himself to your level and lays next to you on his side. You turn to face him, tracing your finger up and down his ribs. His fingers dance along every feature of your body as if he’d never seen you nude, committing you to memory. Danny inches himself closer, pressing his bare chest against yours. His hand stops at your waist, pulling your groin against his, filling in the remaining gap perfectly. He’d grown harder just from innocent touching, the sight of you for his taking aiding his burning desires.
“You, my love, are everything.” Danny’s lips find their home against yours once again as he rolls you onto your back.
“I am so entirely in love with you.” Admittance rolls off your tongue. You’d been telling him you loved him fairly early on, but you never told him you were in love with him.
His face becomes even softer, almost tear-ridden as he pulls away to look into your eyes.
“I’m in love with you, too.” A smile stretches across his lips.
Danny inches himself down, allowing his head to rest against your sternum as he peppers kisses along the bottom of your breast. His hand gently massages the flesh on top, taking your nipple between his fingers. You rest one hand against his cheek, running your fingers along every edge of his structure, the other situated at the back of his head, rubbing his scalp. He sits up on his knees, adjusting your legs around him for comfort. Danny places his hand at your neck and traces his fingers down your chest and stomach, lingering above your center before removing all contact and restarting at your neck. He repeats this one, two, three more times before giving in to his temptations, allowing his fingers to brush against your aching clit. Danny slowly drags his fingers down and gently presses against your entrance.
“S’okay? Feel good?” He whispers, reading your eyes.
“Feels so good.”
Danny pushes two fingers past your entrance, leisurely working them in and out. A few stray moans escape your lips as you grow more wet under his touch and gaze. He places kisses down your body until his lips meet your clit. Removing his fingers, he places his hands on your stomach, holding you down as he tenderly pays homage to your bud. You rest your hands over his, wrapping them around his large palms, leaving crescent shaped marks on his skin.
“Danny, I need you to make love to me.”
“Patience is a virtue, my love.” He pulls away from his task, looking you in the eyes with his slick covered mouth.
“Waited long enough. Please?”
Over the last year he learned he couldn’t say no to you. If you wanted something, he made sure you had it. Luckily all you ever wanted was him, and he’d signed himself away to you the day he found you amongst wreckage. He vowed from that day forward to protect and take care of you, so protect and take care he did. The love of his immortal life.
“Anything you want.”
Danny brings his hand down to stroke himself, guiding his tip through your slick. You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him in deeper. You hiss at the stretch, but the pain quickly dissipates as you grow accustomed to him again.
“Easy, darling. Wanna make love to you.” He slowly rolls his hips into you until you can take all of him.
He lays into you again, resting his head between your shoulder and neck. Sweet moans and heavy breathing fills the air around you accompanied by the crackle of the fire. Your hands rub up and down his back, running your fingers over the dips at the tail of his spine. He places a trail of languish kisses along your jaw, pausing to make deep eye contact before reconnecting your lips. His hips start to move at an even pace, rubbing against your special spot with each stroke. You lift your legs higher, allowing him to fuck you deeper. One of his hands tangled in the hair at the nape of your neck, the other working its way between the two of you to rub your clit. Your walls start to flutter around his cock as his thrusts grow deeper and slower.
“That’s it, my love. You’re doing so good for me.” He presses the pad of his thumb harder against your aching bud, working tighter circles around you. You wrap your arms around his torso, pulling your face into his neck. You feel yourself start to unravel, each movement from Danny urging you closer to finish. His lips press feverishly against yours, swiping his tongue along your bottom lip. The grip on your hair tightens as Danny nears his release, bringing you with him in his last final thrusts. You feel the room around you go dark, left without hearing or vision for a few seconds. In this state of nothingness, you feel Danny’s warm seed spill deep inside you, coating the inside of your swollen walls.
“Y/N, baby? You alright?” His tender voice slowly brings you back down to Earth.
All you can manage is a barely there nod. The scent of sex and fire settles in around you alongside the comfortable silence and sleepiness.
“Is it time?” You whisper into the open.
Danny looks over to the grandfather clock in the corner, dimly lit by the dying fire.
“3:33, just on time.”
Danny reaches to grab the knife and attempts to hand it over to you, but your movements falter.
“Tired, do it for me?” You whisper, completely fucked out and useless as you lay beneath him.
He reaches for your hand and drags the cool metal across your palm, immediately subsiding the searing pain with the softness of his lips.
“So sweet, angel.” He laps up every drop of you, taking in the warmth of your life. “Ready?” He kisses your fresh wound, sure to leave another scar on your well written skin.
“Mhm.”
Danny brings the blade to his palm, working a perfect slit across the taut skin. You watch the blood pool in his palm as he brings his hand toward you.
“Open, darling. We’re almost there.”
You weakly part your lips with your tongue, offering yourself to him. He presses his fresh wound to your lips, hissing at the sting of contact. The velvety, warm substance slowly drips onto your tongue. It doesn’t feel like blood pouring into your mouth, simply just a liquification of his eternal love for you. The taste of him becomes all-consuming, burning every inch of you as the liquid travels down your throat. You slip into a deep slumber, sure to wake up forever hungry for and belonging to Danny.
Hello hello, in light of Miradors debut in Nash last weekend I’d like to share a bit of the next chapter of Running With Stays. See you guys Thursday!
“Jake?” Sam called when he reached the last step, Danny still in tow behind him. Josh was back on the opposite couch again, his face turned away and scrunched up like he was in pain. Sam started to panic for a moment, but he calmed down when he saw the back of Jake's head peeking out from over the couch he’d been laying on. He was up.
When he stepped in front of the couch he saw Jake, hunched over with a blood bag in his hands, mouth clasped tightly around the tube as he sucked the red liquid out fiercely. Josh was trying not to watch. That’s why he looked so tense, not because it hadn’t worked.
It had definitely worked. Jake was a vampire.
Prologue | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Interlude | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Second Interlude | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10 | Chapter 11 | Chapter 12 | Epilogue
Chapter Summary: Rae, Jake, Josh, and Sam find Danny's jacket and bring in reinforcements for extra help.
Words: 3.2k
Warnings: blood/wounds, mentions of death
Notes: Thank you to @infinisonicosm for the fic idea!
-----------------------------------------------------
“SAM!” Jake’s holler made Rae’s shoulders raise to her ears. Sam and Josh had been deep in some kind of intense conversation but, at Jake’s voice, he had their attention. Within seconds, Sam and Josh were by their side.
“Oh my god,” Sam choked out as he grabbed Danny’s jacket from Jake, holding it up to his nose to give a deep inhale. “There’s that smell again.”
Josh stared at the note on the back of the jacket as Sam continued to sniff the inside, completely oblivious to Danny’s cry for help. It seemed like he couldn’t restrain himself, as he pulled the back of the jacket towards him and let his tongue pass over the blood.
“Dude!” Jake scolded Josh. Josh quickly folded his tongue back inside his mouth, his face flushed red.
“I’m hungry,” he tried to explain himself.
“Eat a rat or something, asshat,” Jake spat. “Don’t lick the evidence.”
“Lick the evidence?” Sam’s head cocked to the side as he took a step back from Danny’s jacket. “Huh?”
It seemed mutually agreed that Sam had a right to know about Danny’s message, so Jake silently turned the jacket around for Sam to see. Sam stared blankly at the words for what felt like a lifetime, and then a few fat tears poured from his eyes.
Jake took a strong whiff around the jacket and looked troubled.
“I don’t recognize this smell either, Sam,” he told his younger brother. “But the scent is still strong. Danny must have written this not too long ago.”
Sam took comfort in Jake’s words as he wiped at his eyes and nodded his head. Jake handed the jacket off to Rae to hold and enveloped Sam in a tight hug, just for extra assurance that everything was going to be alright. Josh stood off to the side, just behind Rae, still licking his lips but looking embarrassed by his lack of control. After Sam released from Jake, he pointed at the jacket.
“Where did you find that?”
Jake and Rae pointed down to the small crater Jake had created in the dirt, just a few feet away at the base of a tree that looked to be withering. Sam hurried to it and got down on all fours to inspect the area, sniffing and pawing around the terrain. As he did this, Jake cleared his throat to get Josh’s attention.
“Taste anything weird in that blood, Dracula?”
Josh looked surprised that Jake was willing to talk to him, and then pissed off by the nickname.
“Nothing out of the ordinary,” he spat back at Jake. But then, he thought more about it and seemed to be swishing the aftertaste of the blood around his mouth. “Well,” he started again, “it is a bit clumpier than it should be.”
Rae and Jake shot him disgusted looks, which Josh ignored.
“When the weather drops from hot to cold really fast, the blood thickens to try and regulate a normal body temperature,” he explained. “I usually see this when there’s a cold front to kick off the winter. But I don’t know why that would be happening to Danny, considering it’s still hot as hell out.”
“That’s really weird,” Jake agreed, looking lost in thought. Rae was getting sick and tired of all these moving pieces that didn’t seem to fit together in the slightest. Down at their feet Sam continued to search the area, his face planted into the ground to find more clues.
“That smell,” his voice was muffled, “it’s getting stronger.”
“What was that, Sammy?” Jake called to him. Sam looked back at them, his face caked with dirt.
“The smell on Danny’s jacket is getting stronger down here.”
Jake immediately joined Sam on the ground and shoved his face into the ground. Rae and Josh glued their mouths shut to try and keep any laughs from squeaking through at the strange sight. After a few seconds of looking like an ostrich, Jake sat back up, his face just as dirty as Sam’s, and addressed the group.
“Sam’s right. I need to dig to get closer.”
Sam, Josh, and Rae didn’t need to be instructed to get out of Jake’s way. They stood and watched as Jake moved at inhuman speeds to produce a gaping hole in the wooded floor, extending down nearly five feet. He looked spent from his work, but he managed to climb out, his face scrunched in thought.
“Well?” Josh tried.
“There’s ice down there,” Jake replied.
“Huh,” was all Josh could say. Sam was already in the hole, seeing for himself, and Rae made her way to the edge to peer in as well. Lo and behold, there was a sheet of ice at the bottom, and Sam was slipping around on it while he tried to get a better smell.
Behind her, Jake tucked his sweaty strands of long hair behind his ears and, with a grunt, pulled his soaked shirt off over his head, which earned him a loud groan from Josh.
“Give me a break, Romeo, you’ve got nothing to flaunt.”
“I’m not trying to flaunt,” Jake growled back. “I’m overheating.”
Rae turned to see what the commotion was, and let her eyes land on Jake’s tanned skin for probably a bit too long. He seemed to glisten in the sunlight and, after exerting himself with the hole, his arms were tense, his veins bulging. He made eye contact with Rae for a split second and started to give her a smile, but Rae turned her head the other way. Now didn’t feel like the time or place, especially considering she was holding Sam’s missing friend’s jacket in her hands.
“I can’t break through the ice!” Sam shouted from the hole, sounding frustrated. “It won’t budge at all, but I can tell the smell is stronger down farther.”
“We might need to get some tools,” Jake called down to Sam. “I don’t think there’s much more we can do with what we’ve got right now.”
“Is it really safe to be in town right now though?” Sam’s head popped up so he could look around at everyone.
“I don’t see why not,” Jake shrugged, but Josh cut in.
“No.”
Jake turned fast to study Josh.
“Word got around about us being evicted,” Josh caught Jake up to speed. “The hunters know, and the town leaders are doing nothing to stop them from coming into Frankenmuth to drive us out. Already a few from my nest are missing.”
“For the love of God,” Jake groaned out, wiping his face in disbelief.
“Why don’t we bring our parents out here to show them what we found?” Sam offered. “Maybe they can help us break through the ice and get to Danny so all of this can be sorted out.”
“I don’t know, Sam,” Jake’s voice trailed off. “I’m sure Dad’s got his hands full right now.”
“It might be our only chance to get out of this mess,” Josh told Jake under his breath. “Plus, they’d be safer out here.”
Jake mulled it over.
“My dad will kill me for being around you.”
“Trust me, my mom’s not gonna be happy either, but I think there’s a lot at stake here, and you can afford to get a light scolding from your dad.”
Jake looked like he wanted to protest, but he wound up giving a shrug.
“So, how do we get them out here?”
“We have to brave going into town.”
***
It was agreed upon that someone needed to stay with the hole in the woods, just in case they couldn’t find it when they brought the parents back. It was also firmly agreed that Rae wouldn’t be the one to stay with the hole, since they didn’t know what they were up against in the woods, and Sam wouldn’t stay either since Jake refused to let anything bad happen to him while he was away. Since Josh had to negotiate with his mom, they decided that Rae, Josh, and Sam would head back into town while Jake stayed behind.
“I’ll be fine,” he promised them as they left. “Just don’t take too long, I don’t want to be out here alone in the dark.”
“We have to move fast,” Josh instructed Rae and Sam as they moved out of the dense coverage of trees into more open space, coming closer to the suburban property lines.
“We should get stuff to cover our smell,” Sam piped in. Rae looked at him worried, and he explained, “the hunters have a serious knack for spotting us out. It’s almost like their kind have evolved over the years so they can sniff us out.”
“Here,” Rae offered, giving Josh her backpack, and Sam her flannel that she had stupidly brought for her first day of school, just in case it got cold out. Josh tugged the floral Jansport backpack on and Sam tied Rae’s flannel around his waist without a single argument.
“They should still be at town hall,” Josh shared. “The last I heard they were doing everything they could to convince the mayor to round up the hunters.”
They moved past the last tree in the line marking the entrance to the woods, and Rae stared back at the shaded area with goosebumps prickling across her skin. She didn’t like leaving Jake alone in there. It felt like something bad was going to happen, but she tried to push that bad thought out of her head. She needed to focus on getting through town undetected.
They kept their heads down and, with Josh in the lead, hurried down the residential street leading back into town, right past Rae’s house. She looked up for a brief moment and noted that both of her parents’ cars were in the driveway. Morgan must not have a doctor’s appointment today.
It was startlingly quiet as they trekked farther into town, especially considering it was the first day of school. But Rae understood why the streets were so still: based on everything she had learned from Jake, Josh, and Sam, she could only assume there were a decent number of supernatural residents in town. They must have all been hiding, terrified out of their mind, or fighting to save their kind at city hall.
The latter, as it turned out, was where almost everyone was. Josh, Sam, and Rae were shocked by an overflow of people crammed into the main hallway of the city hall, leading to the mayor’s office. A few people greeted Josh and Sam with melancholy half waves, and others stared Rae down, trying to figure out what she was. The sheer number of people was overwhelming, but it became abundantly clear that Josh and Sam both held some kind of power amongst the werewolves and vampires, since the people parted like the Red Sea, telling them their parents were up ahead.
They squeezed their way through the doorway and Rae felt her stomach flip flop when a group of serious and cold looking adults who were speaking with the mayor behind his desk turned to face them.
“Sam?” a bald man on the shorter side said in surprise.
“Josh?” a woman equally on the shorter side with graying hair raised an eyebrow, as if expecting an explanation out of him. Rae noted that the two parents had two other people beside them, all looking powerful.
“We’re in the middle of something, boys,” a tall and tired looking man next to Sam’s father told them. Rae hated how excluded she felt from everything that was going on. It was as if she was invisible.
“Mom, we need to talk to you about something really important,” Josh pleaded. “Please.”
“It’s about Danny,” Sam added in, staring at his dad with desperate eyes. “We found something that seems promising. I think we’re getting closer to finding him, Dad.”
“Samuel,” his dad’s voice shook. “Because of your carelessness, we could all be fighting for our lives outside of town in the next couple of hours.” He turned back to address the mayor. “If you’d just listen to us,” he clasped his hands together, “we’ll explain everything. This is all a massive misunderstanding.”
“The Wagner family is beyond devastated,” the mayor spoke over Sam’s dad. “I have to do something to let them know that their son didn’t die in vain.”
“He’s not dead!” Sam raised his voice in protest. His dad put a hand up to stop him.
“We found his jacket in the woods with a note on it written in blood,” Josh quickly explained to his mom. “The blood was thick, like he was in cold weather. Jake dug a hole where we spotted the jacket and found ice at the bottom. There’s something weird going on out there.”
“Hold on, you were with Jake?” Sam and Jake’s dad butted in, his eyes narrowed. In that moment, it seemed like Josh understood why Jake had been so hesitant to share that they had been together.
“It’s a long story,” Josh answered while avoiding eye contact.
“Where’s Jake now?” Sam and Jake’s dad demanded.
“In the woods,” Sam responded for Josh, since he seemed to be having trouble forming any coherent words. It was jarring how quickly the parents both shifted from looking angry to distressed.
“Alone?” Josh’s mom asked, looking at Sam and Jake’s dad with worry. Sam nodded his head, his lips pursed. He, Josh, and Rae shared the same thought: Okay, maybe it wasn’t such a great idea to leave him out there on his own. “Kelly,” Josh’s mom addressed Sam and Jake’s dad. “We need to get Jake out of there.”
“Go, we’ll try to sort things out here, Karen,” one of the vampires standing next to Josh’s mom assured her.
“We’ll be back soon,” Karen promised her.
“I hope so,” she said.
“Lead the way,” Kelly motioned for the door. “And hurry.”
The group was in such a rush to make sure that Jake was okay, that neither Kelly nor Karen even bothered to ask who Rae was, or why she was with them. That was fine with Rae, because she really didn’t know what the right explanation was to give. The last thing she wanted was to say the wrong thing and then pay the extreme penalty.
They were at the foot of the woods, and Josh pointed west.
“He should be that way,” he shared.
“He better be,” Kelly said to Sam and Josh. They barreled through the trees, Sam leading the way with the promise that he could smell Jake, and they were coming up close to him. Rae’s heart thundered in her chest, but she couldn’t tell if it was from the strenuous activity, or the anxiety that they might make their way to the hole in the middle of the woods, and not a single trace of Jake would be there. What made her even more nervous was the sun, which was starting to make its trek down towards the horizon. They didn’t have long before the woods were entirely dark, and they were virtually defenseless against whatever lurked around.
The trees around them grew more familiar to Rae in ways she couldn’t comprehend, and then in the distance she spotted Jake sitting at the edge of the hole.
“Thank god,” Kelly and Karen both breathed out.
As they got closer to Jake, two things became apparent to Rae: something had obviously happened, and Jake was in distress. When Kelly and Sam caught onto this, they ran the rest of the distance to Jake, squatting by his side. Rae, Josh, and Karen approached them as Kelly tried to pry information out of his son.
“Please talk to us, Jake.”
Jake had scratches running up and down his arms and bare torso, and a nasty slice on his cheek that looked like it would never permanently heal. His hair was disheveled and he shook out of control, but the most concerning thing was the look of devastation on his face.
Sam gave Jake’s bare back a light rub to try and calm him, and then placed his palm on Jake’s shoulder. Rae watched as Sam’s eyes rolled back in his head and he started to tremble in place, his hand still firmly on Jake. In return, Jake continued to gaze off into the distance, his eyes widening as if he was reliving whatever traumatizing event had happened while they were gone. Kelly watched between his two sons with concern, and was on top of holding Sam upright when he released from Jake with a gasp.
“Oh god,” Sam’s voice cracked, looking around at all of them in a panic. Kelly tried to soothe Sam, but he shakily got to his feet and, to everyone’s surprise, approached Rae. Unsure what was happening, Rae looked beyond Sam and saw that Jake was looking at her with tears streaming down his cheeks. “It’s your brother,” Sam told Rae.
“What?” Rae’s words felt disconnected from her body. What the hell did Morgan have to do with anything??
“He came out here looking for you.”
“Oh shit,” Rae said as her knees buckled.
“Jake tried to stop it, but some beast that I’ve never seen before grabbed him and dragged him into the hole,” Sam told her.
“Is he still alive?” Rae whispered.
“I don’t know,” Sam’s voice was hardly audible. Rae felt herself drop to her knees, but the pain from the force of impact didn’t seem to register in her brain. Everything was buzzing around her, and her eyes couldn’t focus. She wanted to scream out, to bawl her eyes out, but it was like her body was paralyzed in fear and grief. Anger trickled in. What the hell was he doing looking for her in the woods? He knew it wasn’t safe. But Rae did too. She shouldn’t have been in there either. Rae wanted to smack herself for being so foolish.
“I’m so sorry, Rae,” Jake’s voice came behind her, sounding like it was echoing in a pool. Rae didn’t want to look at him in the state she was in, but she turned to face him and was immediately swarmed in a tight embrace. As Jake held her in his arms, Rae had a hard time discerning if he needed the hug more, or her. She could feel the heat from some of his blood oozing onto her shirt, but it was the least of her worries. Morgan was gone, taken by some terrifying thing beyond any of their imaginations. As if Jake knew what she was thinking, he whispered into her ear, “I tried to do everything I could to keep your brother safe. I really tried. I’m so sorry.”
The ringing in Rae’s ears died down at Jake’s words. It was her job to keep Morgan safe, not Jake’s. She moved away from Jake’s arms and studied Sam, Josh, Kelly, and Karen, who were finally looking at her with suspicion, just noticing she was a part of the party.
“We need to find where this thing is taking its victims,” Rae instructed the group. “I’m getting my brother out of there if it’s the last thing I do.”
“Sure,” Kelly nodded at her. “But first things first, who the hell are you?”
Upon exploring an abandoned manor deep in the woods, you find that truth is sometimes just as strange as fiction.
Vampire!Sam Kiszka x Reader
Warnings: Standard warnings for a vampire fic, along with 18+ themes in future chapters.
You'd heard the stories, of course. Deep in the woods, a desolate manor stood. The family who once called it home, they said, had all fallen victim to some illness, leaving the once bustling estate empty and unkempt.
But those who decided to explore it always spoke of an energy that seemed to exist there, of a presence that resided within the worn-down walls. Believers suggest that the spirits of the four young brothers who had once lived there still wandered the halls, unable to accept that they're no longer alive. Others just say it's a creepy old manor, empty and alone. These claims ignited a fire of curiosity within you, and you were itching to explore the place yourself.
The family, it seemed, had originated from somewhere in Europe, their lineage a long line of nobility and prestige. They were revered, held in high regard, as if royalty. Upon arriving here, however, their once illustrious name faded into obscurity. They vanished from the public eye, retreating into the confines of their manor.
This only added to your intrigue, if you were being honest. What secrets lie waiting in that old manor? Was it really haunted?
You decided one afternoon that you were going to find out for yourself, which is how you ended up stood in front of the dilapidated manor, a large pack on your back and anticipation thrumming under your skin.
The manor, once a symbol of opulence and prosperity, now sat in a state of disrepair and loneliness. Time had not been kind to the large estate, with ivy creeping up the decaying walls, nature reclaiming what was once its own. The windows, many shattered, stared out into the world with hollow eyes, as if yearning for what it once was.
The doors were still functional, with a large, ornate knocker staring back at you. Just for the hell of it, you lifted the heavy iron knocker and let it hit the door once, the noise echoing through the halls.
Nothing seemed to jump out at you, no ghosts, no squatters, no animals, so you assumed the place really was empty. You pushed the heavy door open with your shoulder, grateful you had worn something you didn't mind getting messed up as a loose splinter tore a small rip in your sleeve.
While the outside of the manor was in a rather sad state, the inside was surprisingly intact. It was dusty, sure, and some things here and there seemed damaged, but most of the furniture and knicknacks still sat as if no time had passed.
The foyer, once a grand entrance hall, greeted you with faded elegance. The air hung heavy with the scent of neglect, mingling with the faint aroma of aged wood and mothballs. Rays of sunlight filtered through the cracked and dusty windows, casting a dappled light on the old wooden floors. The faded paintings on the walls, still intact beneath the layers of dust, spoke of a time when this place was alive with laughter and vibrant conversations.
You were glad you had decided to bring your camera with you, eager to get photos of this beautiful place. Even the kitchen was elegant; black and white stone floor, white brick walls, and dark stained wood throughout the room spoke of the wealth of the family who once lived here. You wondered what kind of meals they enjoyed that were prepared here.
Your feet carried you to what seemed to be a ballroom of sorts. A large grand piano sat in a corner, intricate carvings decorating its glossy exterior. You were surprised by the lack of dust on it, as if someone took care of it.
The room itself was vast, adorned with chandeliers that hung precariously from the ceiling, their crystal droplets dulled and tarnished. The walls, once adorned with opulent tapestries and intricate artwork, now displayed faded remnants of their former glory. Gossamer curtains, moth-eaten and tattered, danced with the breeze that seeped through the broken windows, casting eerie shadows on the worn parquet floor.
As you reached the old piano, you felt a shiver up your spine. It felt like there were eyes on you, silently watching from some darkened corner. Looking around the sprawling ballroom revealed nothing, not even a mouse scuttling across the floor. Maybe it was just your imagination, but you couldn't shake that feeling.
And maybe you were just overly superstitious, but you didn't want to risk having a ghost angry at you for touching their stuff without asking.
"I-" You spoke up, stuttering at the way your voice echoed throughout the empty room, "I hope you don't mind if I play your piano. I won't break it, I promise."
And suddenly, you felt the tension in the room disappear, as if whoever was watching you was giving you permission.
You gently sat on the wooden bench, letting your fingers drift to the keys. Playing it, you were surprised to find it was still mostly in-key. You didn't know how to play much on the piano, just some simple melodies, but you enjoyed playing it, nonetheless. To be able to play a piece of history was so exciting to you.
You still felt watched as you played, but the gaze felt more curious now. Once you finished playing, you stood from the piano and glanced around the large room.
"Thanks for letting me play. I'll leave you be now," You say again to the seemingly empty room before heading back to the front room.
The sweeping staircase, its banister worn but still sturdy, beckoned you to explore the upper floors. Each step you took echoed through the empty space, reminding you of the tragedy that took place here. You couldn't help but wonder about the lives that once ascended these steps, the footsteps that once filled the hollow emptiness.
Rooms branched off from the main staircase, some to the left and some to the right. The right seemed to be bedrooms, which you left for later. The first room you came across was a library.
As you stepped into the dimly lit space, you couldn't help but be captivated by the sight before you. The room was lined from floor to ceiling with towering bookshelves, their wooden frames weathered by time. The shelves were filled with rows upon rows of books, their spines bearing the weight of forgotten stories and hidden knowledge.
Sunlight filtered through the dust-laden windows, casting an ethereal glow that danced upon the countless volumes. Each ray seemed to breathe life into the forgotten tales, giving them a chance to whisper their secrets once more. You could almost imagine the whispers of the authors, their words suspended in the air, waiting for someone to pick them up.
You ran your fingers along the books as you made your way deeper into the room, marveling at the fragility of their spines and the delicate scent of aged parchment that filled the air. The room was silent, save for the faint rustling of pages as the wind tiptoed through the cracks in the windows.
As you reached the center of the library, your eyes were drawn to an ornate desk, tucked away in a corner. The desk stood proud, its surface adorned with intricate carvings of flowers and vines. You felt watched once more, but this gaze was different. It was wary, but more gentle.
Speaking eased the tension last time, so you decided to do so again.
"Hello... I'm just here to look around. I won't take any of the books."
And again, the air felt calmer. You were certain there was a presence here, but it didn't seem angry or violent. Just... watchful. Careful of it's possessions.
You read some of the papers that sat on the desk. They seemed to be poems, or maybe songs, your eyes trailing along the faded ink. You didn't stay in the library very long, the dust making your throat tickle. You thanked the unseen presence again before moving on.
The room next door was a music room of some sort. Various instruments lay around the room, though two caught your interest: a beautiful violin and a very old guitar. At this point, you weren't surprised when you felt watched again, though this time, you felt a bit of annoyance seep into the room. You decided it would be best to leave the instruments alone; whatever was watching you seemed protective of them.
"I won't touch your things, I promise."
The tension cooled slightly, but you could still tell that you weren't wanted in here.
"Sorry if I'm intruding... I'll take my leave now."
You quickly exited the music room, letting out a breath you hadn't realized you were holding. You decided to leave that room be for now; whatever was in there didn't want you in there with it.
The last room on the left side was a sitting room, bathed in the faint light of the slowly setting sun. As you stepped inside, your eyes adjusted to the dim lighting. The air hung heavy with the scent of aged wood and lingering spirits.
An ornate bar, its polished surface covered by empty liquor bottles, commanded attention, taking up a large portion of the room. Crystal decanters, now empty and collecting dust, stood alongside tarnished glasses.
On the other end of the room, nestled beneath the glow of an antique chandelier, sat a cluster of chairs. Their faded upholstery now bore the marks of time, their frayed edges and worn cushions a result of the passage of years. A pool table, its green baize cloth marked with faint traces of chalk, stood nearby, its wooden frame showing signs of wear and tear.
You set your bag down and sank into one of the large chairs, the worn leather creaking softly beneath your weight. It was then that you felt it—an inexplicable shift in the atmosphere, as if the room had come alive with an unseen presence. The air crackled with a tangible energy, and a shiver danced its way down your spine.
The feeling of being watched returned, but this time, it was different. It was no longer a mere gaze, but a physical presence that settled in the room with you. You could almost feel the wamth of another person, almost feel the subtle disturbance of the air as they moved.
And then, in the periphery of your vision, you saw it. There was a flicker of movement, a shadow cast against the wall. Your breath caught in your throat as you turned your head, eyes narrowing in an attempt to make sense of the mysterious figure that now stood before you.
You could see dark curly hair and a white ruffled shirt, like the ones you'd see in those period dramas. Curious, dark eyes stared back at you as you stood on shaking legs, unsure of what you were looking at. The figure stepped closer, and you could finally see the rest of his features.
He was handsome, and reminded you of the old Greek statues you'd seen at the art museum once. There was something off about him, though, and his movements were too quiet for your liking.
It took a minute to find your voice, and it trembled once you did.
"H-Hello... I'm sorry for intruding..."
The young man looked you up and down, raising an eyebrow before finally speaking.
"You should leave. Your kind shouldn't be here. It's not safe."
His voice was low and rough, but there was a softer tone to the second half, as if he were genuinely concerned for you.
"U-um... okay..."
You glanced at the door, slowly walking to it and keeping your distance from the man.
"Can I ask if you're-"
"You really should take your leave. It's not wise to be here right now," he repeated.
You decided to take heed of his warning, slipping out of the room and back into the hallway. The air felt different than before, as if the manor itself was watching you. You quickly headed back down the staircase and out the front door, your heart thumping out of your chest.
Honestly you hadn't even realized it was so late, too enveloped in exploring. Reaching for your cell phone, you came back empty handed.
Shit. You left your bag upstairs.
You couldn't just leave it behind; you didn't have that kind of money. And your camera was in it too, and you definitely didn't want to lose that.
So, with a deep breath, you re-entered the manor. Climbing the stairs, you felt like you were making a mistake, but you continued on. You had to.
As you reached the landing, you could see the door leading to the sitting room standing ajar, a sliver of light peeking through the crack. Your heart pounded in your chest, the sound reverberating in your ears as you approached cautiously, one hesitant step at a time.
Pushing the door open, you entered the room once again, your eyes instantly drawn to the spot where you had left your bag. It lay there, innocently perched upon the worn chair, waiting patiently for your return.
With a sigh of relief, you hurriedly retrieved your bag, pulling it over your shoulders before turning around and running directly into the young man from before.
"Why are you still here?" He asked, worry in his tone.
"I- um, forgot my things..." You replied, shocked that he wasn't a ghost like you first though. His body was physical, clearly, as you had run into him. His skin was cooler than your own, but not wildly so.
"Leave now. Please," He gently pushed you out of the room, and his tone worried you.
In your rush to head down the stairs, however, you slipped. You felt the ground approaching your face, and closed your eyes as you braced yourself for impact. But it never came. Instead, you felt gentle arms around you, and a new voice spoke quietly into your ear.
"Easy, Darling..."
You opened your eyes and looked up, your eyes meeting honey brown ones. This was a different young man, his short brown hair slicked back, showing off his soft features and slight stubble. He wore an off white ruffled shirt with a fancy jacket over it, his dainty features giving him a charming look overall.
"You should be more careful, Darling. You could've gotten hurt."
He had a boyish tone to his voice and didn't look like he was much different in age to yourself, though you could've been wrong. His hands were a bit clammy, but you ignored it as he helped you to the front door.
"I'm sorry, I-"
"It's quite alright, Darling," He cut you off, before smiling softly, "Now, I must ask you to head back home. You shouldn't linger around strange places so late..."
You swallowed and nodded, not missing the way he looked you up and down, his gaze landing back on your face.
"As lovely as it was to meet you and listen to you play, Darling, I must ask that you not return. It's simply for your own safety. Oh, and don't tell anyone you saw us. We don't like visitors..."
You nodded again. You certainly wouldn't be telling anyone about this. It's not like they'd believe you.
The young man smiled again, giving you a slight bow.
"Have a lovely night, Darling," He whispered, closing the door once more.
As you drove home that night, only one thought filled your head.
You had to go back to that place.
-------
The manor seemed just as empty as before when you decided to return, just days later. The overgrown ivy still twisted around the stone walls, casting eerie shadows in the fading light of dusk. The looming structure stood as a silent sentinel, guarding its secrets within. The heavy oak door beckoned you forward, its intricate carvings a stark contrast to the peeling paint and weathered facade. You wondered for a moment if you imagined the strange people who you had met the last time.
You were tempted to raise the heavy knocker once again, but you knew deep down that you would get no response. The manor still seemed abandoned, frozen in time, a relic of a bygone era. Yet, faintly, you could hear what sounded like music drifting through the air, carried on a haunting melody.
Intrigued and unable to resist the allure of the sound, you stepped into the manor once more. The music was drawing you deeper into its depths, the soft creaking of floorboards beneath your feet adding to the somber ambiance that surrounded you.
After a minute of wandering the lower halls, you finally reached the grand ballroom. The doors stood ajar, revealing a scene straight out of a dream— or perhaps out of a period drama.
In the corner of the room, bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, a figure sat at the grand piano. His fingers danced across the keys with effortless grace, conjuring a haunting melody that seemed to reach the very core of your being.
Stepping closer, you recognized him as the young man from before, the one who caught you on the stairs. You couldn't see much of his face from where you stood, but managed to see that his eyes were closed and he seemed to move with the music. His brow would furrow and relax with the highs and lows of the melody, and his mouth hung slightly open, quiet mumbles spilling out unconsciously.
The scene before you was captivating, almost surreal in its beauty and mystery. The candlelight cast dancing shadows across the room, adding an ethereal quality to the young man's performance. The melody he played seemed to echo through the vast ballroom, filling the space with a sense of melancholy and longing.
As you watched him, you couldn't help but be drawn in by his music. Each note was played with such emotion and skill, his fingers gliding effortlessly across the keys. It was as though the piano was an extension of his own body, each chord and harmony a reflection of himself.
His body swayed with the music, his movements fluid and graceful. You could sense the passion and dedication he poured into his playing, his entire being consumed by the haunting melody that filled the room. It was a performance unlike any other, and one you knew he expected no one to see.
As the music reached a crescendo, his eyes fluttered open, revealing depths of honey brown that seemed to hold a thousand thoughts at once. But then, he played a sour note, his body going stiff as he slowly turned to make eye contact with you.
"What are you doing here...?" He asked, his voice laced with confusion, "I thought I asked you not to come back."
He stood quickly, his movements as graceful as a dancer.
"I'm sorry... I just- I had to... I needed to make sure what I saw last time was real..." You tried to explain, stumbling over your words as he approached.
"As much as I'd love to keep your company, darling, you can't be here," He whispered, using that name again. The one that only made you want to stay here longer. He stopped a few feet away from you and stood so still you couldn't even see him breathe. It was as if he was afraid to come closer, or even breathe the same air as you.
"Why is it so dangerous to be here?" You asked, taking a step forward, "That's what the other boy said too, the one with the curly black hair."
The young man tilted his head to the side, "Curly black hair... you met Daniel?" His confusion turned to concern, "You didn't happen to meet anyone else, did you?"
You shook your head.
He reached out, as if to turn you towards the door, "Then you still have a chance to leave. I'd do so before either of them know you're snooping around here again-"
"Sam?"
Another man's voice echoed down from the top of the stairs, and the brown haired boy, Sam apparently, stiffened.
"Damnit..." He muttered, grabbing your arm and leading you to a closet, "Stay in here and do not make a sound. Just trust me."
With that, he pushed you in and shut the door, leaving you in the dark, dusty storage closet. You pressed your ear against the door, straining to catch any sound from outside.
The muffled voices of Sam and the newcomer drifted through the wooden barrier, "Sam? Who's down here with you?" This voice was lower and had a slight rasp to it compared to Sam's more boyish tone.
"There's no one here, Jake. It's just me."
The other man, Jake, seemed to be unsure of that answer, his footsteps coming every so slightly closer.
"I can smell that someone else was here, Sam. You know that no one can-"
"Jake, it's probably just from the person who was here the other day. They were messing with my piano, so it probably still has their scent," Sam explained, though you didn't understand what he meant. You didn't stink, did you? You sniffed yourself but could only smell the dust and mildew in the closet. It tickled your nose, and you did all you could to hold in the sneeze threatening to come out.
"Maybe... I just don't like it when people come snooping around. If any of them find out, they'll be here with pitchforks and torches by nightfall."
Unfortunately, you could only hold in the sneeze for so long.
"Achoo! ... shit..."
The sound echoed through the dark, dusty closet, interrupting the stillness that had enveloped the space. Your heart skipped a beat as you realized your cover had been blown. The muffled voices of Sam and Jake abruptly halted, replaced by a heavy silence that seemed to last forever despite it only being a few moments.
The closet door was suddenly flung open as you locked eyes with who you assumed was Jake. His brown hair fell effortlessly to his shoulders, and there was an undeniable elegance about him, an air of regality that seemed to set him apart from the others. His outfit was different too; a red vest and jacket that showed off much of his chest and the necklaces that lay there, paired with red suit pants and white pointed dress shoes
But it was his eyes that captivated you the most. Like Sam's, they were a piercing amber-brown, but there was something about the way Jake looked at you that made you shiver. It was as if he was looking through you instead of at you. It was both unsettling and electrifying.
His lips curled into a snarl, revealing unusually sharp teeth that glinted in the sparse illumination, adding to his menacing demeanor. Without a word, he grabbed the front of your shirt, his grip firm and unyielding as he backed you against the wall.
With his face mere inches from yours, you could see every detail of his nearly perfect skin. His gaze bore into you, as if searching for answers you were not even sure you had. The intensity in his eyes was like a storm brewing, ready to unleash its fury at any moment.
"Who the hell are you, and why are you here?" His voice was low and dangerous, each word dripping with anger. The weight of his question pressed down on you, demanding a response that you struggled to form.
You tried to speak, but the words caught in your throat. The silence that followed was suffocating, broken only by the sound of your own fearful breaths. In that moment, you felt like a mouse caught in the gaze of a cat, helpless and exposed.
The seconds stretched on, each heartbeat echoing in your ears like a drumbeat of impending danger. The dim light cast shadows across Jake's face, accentuating the sharp angles and the intensity of his gaze. It was as if time itself had slowed down, trapping you in this moment of uncertainty and fear.
But just as you thought you might crumble under the weight of his scrutiny, Sam spoke up, placing a hand on Jake's arm, "Let them go, Jake. I promise they're not a threat to us."
Jake's grip on your shirt loosened slightly, but his gaze remained fixed on you, "You know their kind and our kind aren't exactly friends, right, Sam? What's stopping them from ratting us out the second they leave?"
Ratting them out about what? For being weirdos living in some old manor in the woods?
"I- I won't say anything! I swear on my life!" You manage to blurt out, the words tumbling out of you in a desperate plea.
Sam butted in again, "Jake, please. It's the one chance we have to see what people are up to now. Please?" He sounded like a child begging their parent to let them keep a new pet.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Jake released his hold on you, stepping back with a wary look in his eyes, "Fine. But if you say one word to anyone, I'll gut you."
Jake turned on his heel and stormed off, his coat billowing behind him. His footsteps echoed through the empty hallway, fading into the distance like a distant thunderstorm. Alone with Sam now, you turned to face him, taking in the subtle downturn of his shoulders and the crease of worry etched into his brow.
"I apologize about him. He doesn't trust people very much anymore..." Sam's voice was apologetic and worried, "He'll eventually get over it. Just, ah, please don't tell anyone about us?"
You sighed in annoyance, still confused about all this, "Tell anyone what?? I still have no idea what or who you guys are!"
It was Sam's turn to seem confused.
"You... you don't? I assumed you had returned because you figured it out..." Sam trailed off, suddenly looking a bit embarrassed, his brows knitting together in a perplexed expression.
"Oh. Well... hmm..." Sam's voice trailed off, suddenly less sure sounding than before.
"Well?" you prompted.
Sam took a deep breath, his shoulders sagging slightly under the weight of whatever knowledge he carried. He took a deep breath, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I, um... my brothers and I... we're not human. Not anymore, at least..." Sam's voice wavered, the confession weighing down his every syllable.
You stared at him, searching his face for any sign of deceit, but all you found was raw vulnerability.
"You're... not human?" The words felt foreign on your tongue, a question you'd never thought you'd say.
Sam nodded slowly, his gaze never leaving yours, "We're something else now. Something different..." His features were drawn with worry, his eyes pleading for understanding, "I know this is a lot to take in, but please... we mean no harm. We're just trying to survive, to exist in a world that isn't made for us."
Not human.
The words echoed in your thoughts as questions fought for attention in your mind, demanding answers that seemed to slip through your grasp like water through a sieve. Not human. Then what was he?
You could touch them, so probably not ghosts; they weren't rotting in front of you, so not zombies, a voice in your mind reasoned, trying to make sense of the impossible truth standing before you.
You looked at Sam, truly looked at him, and actually took in his features. His smooth, perfect skin that accentuated the sharp angles of his face, his amber eyes that leaned a little more red than brown, and his too-sharp teeth, elongated and pointed, glistening slightly under the light filtering through the dusty windows.
Oh.
It all made sense.
The pieces of the puzzle fell into place with a resounding click, and suddenly, the world around you seemed to shift. Sam stood before you, a creature of the night, a being that belonged to the shadows.
"You... You're a vampire??" You ask in a hushed tone, a part of you still not believing it.
Sam nodded slowly, his features softened by a hint of sadness, "Yes, I am. And so are my brothers. We... we never wanted this life, but it chose us nonetheless." His voice was a whisper, full of longing for a world long gone.
"Do you... feed on people?" You ask, stepping back.
"No! None of us do. We can stay satiated enough with the wildlife in the surrounding forest," Sam assured you, taking a step to keep the same distance between you both, "Trust me, I don't like it either. I didnt like eating animals even before becoming this. But I can assure you that none of us will hurt you."
You cast a glance to the doorway where Jake had just stormed off, "What about him?"
"Jake's just highly overprotective of us. Most people tend to run screaming when they discover they're standing in a house full of vampires."
You stayed still for a moment, considering your options. You could run away like others apparently had, and try to forget this place and it's otherworldly inhabitants. But there was something in Sam's demeanor, a certain earnestness in his voice, that made you want to stay.
"You promise none of you will hurt me?" You ask, watching as Sam's face perks up at your words.
"I promise. I swear on my eternal life," Sam grinned, placing a hand over his heart. His teeth glinted in the light, but strangely, you weren't scared of him.
"Alright then. I'll trust you... Sam, was it?" You say, relaxing slightly.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I never introduced myself, did I? My name is Samuel Francis Kiszka, and it's a pleasure to meet you, darling," Sam bowed dramatically, peeking up at you after a moment with another grin, "But you may call me Sam."
You told Sam your own name, chuckling when he decided to keep referring to you as "darling" instead.
"Now, I'd love to give you the grand tour, if you'd like?"
You, of course, agreed.
As Sam led you through the dimly lit corridors of the mansion, you couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of the place. You followed Sam's tall figure, his movements graceful yet purposeful, as he showed you around the rooms you had only briefly passed through before.
The ballroom, with its ornate chandeliers and marble floors, stood as a reminder a bygone era. Sam spoke of the nights when music and laughter filled the room, when guests twirled in elegant gowns and tailored suits. His voice echoed in the vast space, recounting tales of extravagant parties and lavish gatherings that once graced the halls.
Next, he guided you to the kitchen, where the scent of spices and herbs still lingered in the air, even under all the dust. The massive hearth, now cold and dark, had once been the heart of the bustling room. Sam pointed out the intricately carved cabinets and shelves, explaining how the pantry used to aways be stocked with supplies from the nearby village, ensuring that those living in the manor at that time never went hungry.
Moving on, you entered the dining room, its long table still set with fine china and silverware. The high-backed chairs stood empty, a stark reminder of the absence of guests. Sam's voice softened as he described the family meals shared around the table, the laughter and arguments that had once filled the room now reduced to nothing but memories in his mind.
The last major room you were shown on the lower floor was the main sitting room. Though also covered in a layer of dust and it's windows cracked and curtains torn, it still seemed grand. The large couches were made of fine velvet and leather, clearly expensive in their time and still worth a hefty sum today. The large fireplace, all of its bricks imported from Europe according to Sam, used go heat nearly the whole house.
"Though, we don't really have a need to keep cool or warm anymore. In fact, we seem to run colder than ever before," Sam explained, "We can feel warmth but it doesn't do much, Sam continued, his voice carrying a hint of wistfulness. As he spoke, you noticed a flicker of something in his eyes, a distant longing for sensations that he could no longer fully experience.
The warmth of a crackling fire, the gentle touch of sunlight on his skin – all of no use to him in the eternity of his existence. Maybe all the romance novels had made you forget how lonely the life of an immortal must be.
"But enough about me," Sam turned to head out of the sitting room, gesturing to the large staircase, "I think you should formally meet my brothers."
Note
I need to see Danny in a skirt. Doesn’t even have to be a short skirt, though if those bitable thighs of his are out that would be great. Could be a stage look, casual, for a photo shoot, I just need it to happen.
I’ll honestly take any of them in a skirt because honestly I think they would all look great but for some reason the idea of Danny in a skirt has been haunting me for weeks
I wanna bite the fuck out of his thighs.
