Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, 2925 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles (Silver Lake), CA 90026

Van Leeuwen was founded as a mobile scoop truck in Brooklyn in 2008. Now, you can find their ice cream in scoop shops as well as many grocery stores across the country. They use simple ingredients to create high quality ice cream. It’s called French ice cream because they use twice as many eggs as the typical ice cream.
The menu includes ice cream (dairy and vegan) by the scoop in a cup or cone, chocolate chip cookies, cookie sandwiches, sundaes, and milkshakes. One scoop is $7.45. Not only is it expensive, but the scoop is small and you can only choose one flavor. They have many flavors to choose from (over 30!) and provide samples. The classic flavors are there – e.g., vanilla bean, chocolate, and strawberry, and they also have more creative flavors like earl grey tea, brown sugar cookie dough brownie, banana bread pudding with fudge swirl, sour cream blueberry jelly donut, and sweet potato marshmallow pie.
Earl grey tea: could taste the tea but didn’t like the aftertaste
Sour cherry creamsicle: This was a sour cherry sorbet swirled into a vanilla ice cream. The sour cherry sorbet was actually sour and on the icy side. The sourness was nice but it also seemed a bit bitter. The vanilla ice cream seemed to have a mild vanilla flavor. It was firm and not that smooth. I like firmness but there was a weird almost buttery aftertaste.
Van Leeuwen is in a strip mall with a valet. I’m not sure if you can self-park. There are two small indoor tables. You can also buy prepacked pints there.
3.5 out of 5 stars

I’ve seen a lot of people online say they don’t like this flavor but I honestly think it’s my favorite flavor of theirs. The Mac and cheese one is second best lol. This def taste kind of like cheap matcha though, & AZ tea is not that. 🌸🍵

So I didn't bother taking a pic of the inside of this ice cream because it looked very uninteresting. Off-white, plain old cream de ice. The flavor, however, was very interesting.
This company specializes in unusual flavors, and they don't just do them to do them- they do them WELL! Each seasonal flavor drop includes at least one flavor that makes you say "is this for real?" And it's not even this one that's the crazy flavor this time around...that distinction goes to one I haven't yet decided I'm brave enough to try: Hot Honey. (If I get ballsy y'all will be the first to know!)
But for now back to Kiwi Burst. It kinda reminded me of tart yogurt, but with like half the tartness that that would have, which is pretty on par with what kiwis are like. Kiwis are a weird fruit in terms of flavor...they taste like "sweet with a little tartness" in the same way cotton candy tastes like "sugar with a little sugar," like it's not as much a flavor as it is an...essence? And this ice cream carries that same flavor-so-light-it's-almost-not-a-flavor, but like in a good way, if you like kiwis. It's more than worth a try if you enjoy fruity ice creams and sorbets and unconventional flavors.

I tried the Van Leeuwen Dill Pickle French Ice Cream and it was pretty good.
The ice cream was vanilla with a light pickle juice sugar taste and had a light sweet milk taste.
The ice cream was smooth and creamy.
This ice cream was sweet but not overly sweet to me and lightly salty from the pickle juice flavor.
I would eat this again but I wish this ice cream had pickle pieces in it to give it a crunchy texture with the smooth ice cream.
I remember at Sonic I got the Dill Pickle slushy and it tasted like the juice from the Sechler's sweet pickles juice.
It was pretty cool.
Got at Walmart and was on clearance for $2.50 with tax.
Mine weighed 8.8 fl oz for the whole thing.
