Wouldn’t it be really funny if Rapunzel just, forgot about Varian’s whole villain arc in convenient moments?

Like Varian is suspected by some villager of conspiring with criminals and she’s just like “Why would Varian be around criminals lmao?” Or he commits some petty crime (against someone who totally deserves it) and when he’s accused she’s just like “Varian has never done anything wrong in his entire life!”

Varian: pranks Frederic by putting thumbtacks on his throne, puts blue dye in Nigel’s shampoo, steals classified documents for shits and giggles, sneaks in fake documents within real documents, replaces the guards swords with inflatables, blackmails uppity nobles, goo bombs Kiera and Catalina’s treehouse, dyes all of Lance’s clothes hot pink, and steals Eugene’s makeup.

Rapunzel: Varian is such a silly little guy. What a sweet lad.

Finally his hands land upon something that isn’t a dress. A large black coat. He holds it up to his body, studying it carefully. It clearly doesn’t fit him. Like, at all. But beggars can’t be choosers, so he puts it to the side and searches for some more stuff. He manages to find a pair of tan-coloured trousers, a gray vest and even an awesome red bandana which he could draw some sharp teeth on if he can just find a sharpie…now that would be cool. Once he’s changed into his new outfit he notices that his trousers go way below his boots. But the bandana is cool. Really cool.

He looks himself up and down in the mirror - something he hasn’t done in a while. Just to check out his outfit. He’s not expecting to see anything else. But as he stares at himself in the mirror he notices he’s…changed. He’d seen snippets of himself when he passed reflective objects, but this? This was something he wasn’t used to. His hair is greasy and matted - it stuck to his forehead which was coated with a thick layer of sweat. Must be all the nightmares. His cheekbones jut out in a way they didn’t before - even when he was in prison. And, oh suns, the bruises and cuts on his arms. He sighs and quickly tucks the bottom of his new trousers into his boots. He hasn’t got the time to pity himself. He needs to get back to work.

frankly, i think everyone should be relieved that i became the champion of the scourge and then later the lich king. if you think about it, really, i was the best person they could've chosen- i mean, can you imagine if they'd chosen varian to be the lich king? you'd all be mindless undead. so really everyone should be grateful that i was as merciful as i was

If they met again, would things still be the same? They were best friends after all.

It is possible that Varian was found and rescued after the MU inhabitants migrated to Spherus Magna. But what would Norik's reaction be? What would they say? A lot has happened since Varian's imprisonment and they need a lot of catch up to do. I honestly hope to read about their reunion someday but I know I'd cry my eyes out if I did.

It’s funny because I fully imagine Eugene to be a bit protective of Varian. He’s still reckless, and he and Varian get into their fair share of chaos, but he freaks out if Varian accidentally hurts himself (and then laughs obv) and is always the first to tend to any lab accident-or -otherwise-related wounds. If someone even looks at Varian the wrong way he’s got his hand on his little brothers shoulder and sending them a death glare. If you maliciously prank Varian your social life is ruined. And heaven forbid you even lay a hand on the boy lest you want the entire royal guard after you, with a special visit from the Captain himself. You hurt Varian, you perish.

But you can’t convince me these two don’t absolutely destroy eachother in impromptu wrestling matches on a regular basis. These two are pulling hair, kicking shins, and elbowing stomachs in the castle halls because Varian called Eugene’s goatee tacky. And they just, hit eachother regularly. Eugene will sass Varian and get a bruising hit to the shoulder in turn. Varian will insult Eugene’s intelligence and get put in a chokehold. Eugene has a scar on his hand from where Varian bit him after Eugene noogied him too hard. Rapunzel walked into Eugene pinning Varian onto the ground by laying on him gravity is increasing on me style and he didn’t get up for twenty minutes. Eugene regularly puts Varian in air-jail. Varian stomps on his feet with steel toed boots.

Visiting nobles are very concerned.
