Chapter 1: Soft Hearts

Being carried is warmer than walking, and sleep's sweet embrace tugs at his eyes. He twitches as a tear lands on his cheek.

"Shit... sorry, I-"

He wraps his arms around Steel's shoulders.

"It's okay... you're okay..."

"... you're injur-"

"-doesn't matter... I'm sorry," his grip tightens, "I must've scared you and I... I should've tried..."

"No, I was supposed to be there," Steel looks away, "it was almost like.."

Vern carefully pulls back and looks at him. The sprite gives a comforting smile as a bird lands on Steel's head.

"Like... umm.. what?"

".. when I lost my father.." he barely mumbles.

"Oh... I'm sorry..."

He shakes his head, disturbing the bird for a moment. "I couldn't... do anything..."

Vern tentatively reaches up to wipe a few tears away. Steel turns his head away, "you uh... don't have to do that."

".. I wanted to..." the sprite almost whispers, "I... I'm sorry I hurt you..."

"Eh? I was..." Steel lets out a light huff, "you couldn't hurt a fly."

"Thanks," Vern mumbles, a small smirk tugging at his lips, "you can um... set me down now.."

Pausing, Steel stares at the small cabin before letting Vern stand. As the sprite's feet find the soil, Koa approaches. The elk presses against Vern's arm. "It's good to see you on your feet."

"Thank you.. is everyone rested and ready," Vern smiles, petting his familiar.

"Yes. They're discussing that old bard's tale about your parents."

Vern frowns, "oh.. that song."

Steel raises a brow while petting the bird. Sighing, Vern goes to the cabin to step inside. He takes his time looking around. Warmth gradually fills his chest. Silver hair in his periphery helps the sparks grow.

"Hello~ we're back! Is umm.. everyone rested?"

Consultation

Doctor’s Notes - Upon initial assessment, [Blacked Out] presents as a well-spoken man with a firm grasp on reality. Patient 34 years old. Married for 2 years. Wife 4 months pregnant.

Denies necessity of psychological treatment, but has kept appointment at the request of his wife, who insisted on visitation due to a concern over growing isolationistic [sic] tendencies.

Patient displays high degree of verbal acuity and is very observant. Initial tests suggest a high IQ, with an extraordinary ability to recall facts. [Blacked Out] expressed pride at his intelligence and knowledge. Exhibits need to point out the weaknesses in others. Insists the behavioral changes are that of his wife who “no longer understands” him.

Patient is polite and cordial, but non-compliant. Seems to take pleasure in obfuscating answers and attempting to trick questioner. Patient’s demeanor is calm and controlled. Shows disconnect with the emotions of other individuals and general lack of empathy towards humanity. Verbally expresses affection for his expectant wife and child, but does not outwardly display so when discussing them.

After initial consultation [Blacked Out] does not feel a need for future visitations. Have scheduled a follow-up appointment with the option to cancel with 24 hours notice, just in case he changes his mind.

Patient displays tendencies towards depression and Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

2. Partial Medical File Patient ID #: 825-361-3127

Doctor’s Notes [Blacked Out] continues to show up to appointments despite questioning need for psychiatric treatment. States that he “knows more about medicine and the mind” than any of the staff. Mocks staff credentials and is often uncommunicative during therapy. Claims traditional psychiatric medicine fails patients by not offering them “real choices.”

Patient displays familiarity with psychological/psychiatric language. Patient states that he is well aware of own childhood history and its potential psychological ramifications. Describes authoritarian, punitive father and absent, passive mother. Insists that his superior intelligence and self-control make childhood history of physical, mental and verbal abuse unimportant.

Patient denies history of his own violent and impulsive behavior, citing memory lapses. Our conversations reveal the [sic] [Blacked Out] often manipulates others for his own amusement. Patient shows no remorse at negative effects his behavior has on other people. Views others as objects/pawns.

Based on [Blacked Out]’s behavior and history, I recommend inpatient treatment. Patient refuses to consider this option.

Raise Haldol to 5 mg/twice daily. Raise chlorpromazine to 50 mg nightly.

Injury Report Single fracture of the arm, left ulna.

Treatment Prescribed Bone set, cast application recommended for 5 weeks.

Notes [Blacked Out] claims injury is result of accidental fall. Subdermal hematoma at site of fracture, implying fracture was impact-related, but [Blacked Out] had additional bruising on the knuckles of both hands. When asked about metacarpal bruising, [Blacked Out] denied bruising and became violent, interrogating me about my bedside manner. Doctors make the worst patients.

It wasn’t long before Jules and Verne started growing curious about their parents’ past. So, one day, their father sat them down, an old photo album on his lap.

He talked about his childhood, his school days, his work at the courthouse and his enrollment into university; told them how he got his PhD and his teaching at CalTech.

Verne pointed to a black and white photograph in the corner of the page. “When’s that from?”

Doc smiled ever so slightly, a hint of sadness in his expression. “This,” he began, closing the book, “is a story for another time.”

*Vern stares at Silver from a distance. His cheeks tint pink as he starts to scurry out of the stables. The elk he was putting away twitches an ear in confusion, it seems Vern didn't lock his familiar's stable door*

Vern Nightmare

TW: blood (sorta? If you squint. It's the first 2 sentences at the beginning)

Sticky crimson is all he can see. It's down his legs, on his hands. Something is wrong. His abdomen twists as if it's shoving rocks through him. It's excruciating. His nightgown is ruined. Stumbling to stand, Vern staggers into the hall.

"Cliff! Vivian!"

He's trembling. Leaning against the wall as one hand grips at his stomach. His heart is thundering wildly. Tears burn and blur his amber gaze. The terrified pitch of his voice echoes through the house.

Usually, there's a warm bustling to this home. In this moment, there's a stillness in the air. The faintest breath is booming. An uneasiness claws up his spine. Not even the scurry of a mouse touches his ear.

A searing pain blazes through him. Choking on a gasp, he collapses. Everything is too big. A small sob leaves him. Curling against the junction of the wall and floor, he forces words out. "CLIFF!"

Whispers fill his ears. Shadows flicker around him. Where they came from is hard to say. It's all in stereo and none are who he's seeking. Blinking, he finds himself on a table. A fresh set of clothing on him.

"Is he okay?"

"What did the physician say?"

Vern shakily covers his ears. "I-I'm..."

"It's a blessing!"

"Our beloved spring sprite truly is a lady!"

"N-no... I..." Vern clutches at himself. His eyes widen as the shadows grab at him. "S-stop... I-I..."

The touch of a frigid iceberg scorches his arm. White hair and frozen eyes meet his. Threats of frostbite curl out from her skin. Her breath holds the harshness of the northern mountains. Her demeanor carries elegance and bitter cold. The promise of isolation curls her lips.

"Breathe, Lady Phantasia. Fear not, I will offer my son to take your hand. I'm certain he can assist in providing what's best for everyone."

"N-no... I..."

"Hush now, rest. I will ensure all the required tests are taken care of. All you must do is think of what's best for the mountains and all the residents."

"W-wait... Lady Respi I don't-" Vern's objections are cut short. Restraints prevent him from moving. Frantically tugging at them, his breathing quickens. He needs more air. It's like drowning. His chest feels as though it's being constricted. A consistently tightening coil.

"Lady Phantasia, it's unbecoming to-"

A curdling scream leaves him as his bolts upright. Sheets tangle his feet. Scrambling to shove them off, Vern's left gasping. Violent tremors rattle his nerves. Clawing at his bandages, he mindlessly shreds them.

"NO!"

His gaze is unfocused. Tears sting at his eyes like searing daggers. The fabric of his nightgown clings tightly to him. Vern's sweat traitorously keeps the itchy material glued in place.

Thoughtlessly, he yanks it off. Tossing it to some forgotten place in the moonlit room. Shaky breaths leave him as he vaguely makes out the familiar shapes of furniture. This is not a doctor's office. This is NRC.

Forcing himself up, he searches for spare clothes. Any silence is drowned out by the thundering of his own heart. Vern clumsily yanks on a spare button up. Fumbling with buttons, he sits on the bed.

The clock reads three O'clock. Swallowing in a futile attempt to wet his sand dry throat, Vern lays back down. It might have been minutes or hours, he can't be certain. An eternity drags by with each passing breath. Regardless, sleep evades him.

Furst of all, there are two opposite ends marking 12, Seokjin said in the Bangtan Special report that the theme of this year's Festa would be 00:00. A kind of reset.

The colours they used are orange and blue. Gold and indigo. It's a stretch, but how about yellow and purple ??? Orange and blue are contrasting colors often used together. There's also night and day. After the long night, the lonely time, a new dawn approaches. These are all heavily used themes in BTS's lore.

The most obvious references to jikook are the Sun and the Moon. BTS using the sun and moon motif for mingukki was their black swan pas de deux for MMA 2020 that began with an eclipse: the temporary melding between the sun and moon. So, this is established storytelling. And it happened more than once, even during BTS RUN.

The sun and moon are depicted on a timepiece, something resembling a nautical clock. So the sun and moon are, very generally said, the orgin of the push and pull of the tides. The ocean. The purple ocean perhaps? Hobi did reference 'purple waves' approaching.

But, doesn't a timepiece in conjunction with nautical theme make you think of a mindboggling jikook moment?

The theories regarding Jimin’s Patek Phillipe Aquanaut timepiece and the time it showed (which was NOT the actual KST time when he was streaming) have been heavily covered by blogs far more eloquent than mine. The name aquanaut refers to an underwater swimmer. The Nautilus the watch has been shaped after comes from the name of Jules Verne's submarine in Twenty thousand leagues under the sea, a wonderful adventure book.

Jimin wore this, and his other PP watch named Complications, during AYS?!. That watch features a pretty moonphase window with stars. Jimin just loves the constellations, he even had a constellation lamp in his house.

I'm getting off track here because how come we're not talking about watch gate anymore. That sh*t was WILD.

So, we know, just last week, Jikook went to Japan for around three days. We can assume they met up there. Their diversion tactics aren't very stealthy. So...

What if... and this is a big what if, what if they filmed something there for Festa? What if it's their song for Festa as a subunit. Or a performance of some kind?! 🤡 Keep Going?!

Both Jimin and Jungkook have written/performed several ARMY fans songs. Some they've attributed to ARMY as their inspiration and some where I go, huh... for 'ARMY'...suuuuure baby.. whatever you say beautiful. *plays Letter*

Jimin told us they've been practicing while enlisted, singing together, far removed from other's so they wouldn't be overheard. What if it was for this song???

We don't know why they went to Japan, and as much as I hope they went to enjoy themselves, however that looked like, their work is such an important part of what bonds them. Their work ethic, their drive and dedication. Their mile high ambitions, for themselves and for BTS. So, work is never separate from Jikook, but Jikook do separate themselves within their work.

And a subunit song from them is something we've all been eagerly waiting for. It's been years. I don't care if they use AYS as a jumping off point or if Japan is the setting.

Hell, if it's another GCFT featuring their homoerotic song called 'Keep Going', featuring lyrics like

and absolutely mixing and matching them. i'd see all those concepts going crazy for each of them. like emo!vern who's prob honestly closer to scenecore/pop punk with dark+dyed hair and loves avril lavigne and has 'rock 'n roll' and 'here's to never growing up' on blast (am i projecting my 2000s-2010s self? YES). preppy!sophist (blazers and khaki shorts and long sweaters and omg wait sophist in a frat sounds like a TERRIBLE idea LMAO... unless?). jock!brent (basketball. swimming. just an all-rounder with a varsity jacket that one- or ALL- of them want). cheerleader!nick too, coordinating the best mocking/roast chants and taunts! once he's in it, he's committed as hell. and that's just a glimpse of the possibilities.

Crushing: Walks up and stands next to you, then begins to cut the other person off, explaining in detail lore about some obscure fantasy series. If the person doesn't get the hint they'll just never let the other person talk and will interpose themselves between the two of you.

Relationship: Pushes them into a broom closet and locks the door so the two of you can enjoy the party.

Franco:

Crushing: Will join them actually. Sorry but now you're being double flirted with.

Relationship: Politely informs them that you're taken and then he'd proceed to get that person to hook up with one of his band members instead, so everyone's happy.

Verne:

Crushing: As inelegantly as possible they'll walk over and tell the other person to fuck off.

Relationship: This is fun because they don't like to show their feelings to the public, but they also like to make sure people knows what is "theirs", And they're just generally protective over the people they care for. So this position they're in now will make them act kind of stupid because they'll be out of their depth. It'll be a toss up between them just walking over and kissing you really hard in front of the other person. Or threatening the other person. Either way they'll be ready to fight.

Mitch:

Crushing: Turns their drink into the nastiest alcohol he's ever had so when they take a sip they're immediately disgusted. When they turn to get a new one he'll shoot you a "gtfo" glance. If you don't get the fuck out then that's on you.

Relationship: "They're taken. Move on."

Sigourney:

Crushing: Walks up carrying her drink and "accidentally" trips and falls on the other person. Apologizes profusely and helps them clean up. If she REALLY wants to be petty she'll try to spill something that will stain.

Relationship: Ignores the other person and says something to you that makes note of your relationship with her and how she knows you better than the other person. Something like "Lets go home, darling. I know you're not a fan of crowds. The new episode of that show came out today, we can watch that." Pretends she didn't know the other person was hitting on you, like you and them were having a normal conversation.

Dame:

Crushing: Just stands behind the person flirting with you and very loudly says something like "God, You're pathetic." Proceeds to start a yelling match probably, giving you time to sneak off.

Relationship: Ignores the person flirting with you at first. They'll walk up to you, slip a hand around your waist and get really close. Whisper that they'd like to go home. After a short quiet conversation between the two of you they'll finally look to whoever was bothering you, give them a glance up and down, and give a little smirk before walking off with you. They won't say anything as it'd drop them to the other person's level. They're able to EASILY insult that person to hell and back with a look alone.

Rebel:

Crushing: Will not save you. She's going to watch and see what you do. But she will make note of the person. She won't let them become a threat.

Relationship: (Wrestling announcer voice) "HERE COMES REBEL WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!!" Joking, but only kind of... She'd probably start some sort of mass panic in the party. A fire is the most likely. Then when the crowd is fleeing she'd grab the person bothering you, pulling them away from the panic, and make sure they never bother you again.
