“Sabina! Just the person I was looking for!”
You looked up in surprise at the sound of the semi-familiar voice calling your name, carefully lowering the serving platter you’d just spent the last twenty minutes painstakingly scrubbing onto the long, flat wooden surface of the kitchen work table.
Without thinking about it, you wiped your hand down the side of your tunic and then winced. You were still getting used to the finer quality of your clothing now that you had been acquired as a household slave in the villa of Atticus Cornelius Juventus. All your life—or, at least, all the time you’d been the property of someone else—you had only ever worn roughspun tunics made of cheap fabric that tore so frequently you’d become an expert with a needle and thread before your seventh birthday. Now, however—now things were different. Dominus and Domina had very exacting standards when it came to appearances, from their own all the way down to the lowliest kitchen slave.
“Everything has to be perfect where they’re concerned,” Phoenix had once whispered to you, the tiniest hint of derision in her voice. You admired the way the loss of her freedom somehow hadn’t stripped her of her independent spirit. “Even their slaves are the best dressed in Rome,” she explained, her dark eyes rolling back for a moment.
It was true. Though your tunics—you actually had more than one now—were nowhere near as fine or as delicate as Domina’s, there was no denying that the quality was the best you had ever known. It had made you anxious at first, wearing such a fine tunic while carrying out all your chores around the villa. You’d seen others punished for making a mess of themselves, and you didn’t want to face the same fate.
Over the past two and a half months since you’d entered the service of your masters, Domina had scolded you on several occasions for being too careless with your appearance.
“Don’t wipe your hands on your tunic like a common sewer rat,” she’d snapped one evening after you’d finished helping to set the table for dinner, wrinkling her nose in disgust. “You should count yourself lucky that we’ve deigned to give you something so fine.”
“Yes, Domina,” you had murmured in embarrassment, lowering your head as was expected.
“I think our generosity deserves a bit of gratitude, don’t you, my love?” she asked, tilting her chin in the direction of Dominus.
He looked more interested in his wine than he did in the conversation at hand, but he nodded and waved his hand in agreement anyway.
Domina turned her gaze, shrewd as a cat’s, back on you. “Go on. Say thank you,” she demanded.
“Thank you, Domina. Thank you, Dominus,” you said meekly, bobbing a small curtsy for emphasis. Nearby, you could sense Phoenix’s eyes narrowing in the direction of your mistress.
“Now be gone from my sight,” Domina waved you off, reaching for a ripe fig resting on the platter before her.
From then on, you’d been incredibly self-aware of your treatment of your clothing and your appearance, though from time to time you still caught yourself slipping up.
Like now.
You bit your lip, but the tension in your shoulders eased when you realized that there was no one about who would scold you for the simple mistake. Not even Titus, though he was a freedman and in the employ of your masters.
It was Titus who had called for you, much to your surprise. Though you had interacted with the medicus on a few occasions over the past couple months, the conversations had always been short and you could see no reason why he’d be seeking you out now.
“Hello, Titus,” you said politely, rising from your seat at the table and bowing your head respectfully, though he waved you off. As a former slave himself, he never stood on such ceremonies. “Can I help you with something?”
The older man smiled, the deep lines on his forehead and around his mouth creasing as he did so. “Actually, yes. Yes, you can. I need your assistance at the ludus,” he told you, his steady, well-trained hands resting calmly at his sides.
Your eyes widened at his request, and you felt a strange dip of—it wasn’t quite fear, but rather some disconcerting feeling deep within your stomach.
You had known when you had been sold here what kind of household this was. Dominus didn’t acquire his riches by chance, but rather through the lucrative business of gladiators. And from what you had gathered, his private ludus boasted some of the very best fighters Rome had to offer—including their champion.
Any trepidation you’d had about living on a property with such brutal men had been put to rest, however, when you realized just how large the villa of Atticus Cornelius Juventus was. Situated in the fashionable district of the Palatine Hill, the household itself was separated entirely from the ludus—the gladiator school where the fighters worked and trained and ate and slept. You knew that many of the household slaves from the villa also performed duties at the ludus—Phoenix was one of them—but you yourself had never had occasion to cross that barrier.
And you’d been perfectly content with that arrangement.
“Oh,” you stammered shyly, looking up at Titus as he gazed back at you expectantly, kindness brimming in his dark eyes. “But I thought that—well, I just—”
Titus laughed softly, though in a way that let you know he wasn’t mocking you. “Dear girl, you don’t have to look like a gazelle they just let loose in the arena. The boys won’t bite you, I promise you that. Well, most of them won’t.”
You felt your face growing warm at his words, and you bashfully twisted your hands in the folds of your tunic. “O-of course. I just thought that—well, doesn’t Phoenix normally assist you at the ludus?”
“She does,” Titus nodded, running a hand through his graying hair. “But she’s out at the moment running errands for Aurelia.” The corner of his mouth twisted slightly at the mention of Domina’s name. Your mistress seemed to have that effect on many people. “And the boys just arrived back from an event at the arena. I’m afraid Gallus is wounded rather badly, which means I’ll need an extra set of hands.”
Gallus.
You recognized the name. Though you had never been to the Colosseum yourself, it was impossible not to hear the talk of the famed gladiators who graced the sands of the arena. And even if you didn’t hear the talk, the graffiti plastered across the city was enough to get the point across, down to the lewd and shockingly explicit drawings.
Gallus was the one they called “The Barbarian from Britannia,” the undefeated champion of Rome who was able to take down any opponent thrown his way, man or beast.
And he resided right here, in this household.
“Me?” you asked, eyes widening once more, this time in shock. “You need me to help you? I mean, wouldn’t there be somebody better—”
“From what Phoenix tells me, you have quite the touch when it comes to caring for those who are sick and injured,” Titus cut you off, a smile curving his lips as he raised his eyebrows curiously.
Your skin grew hot at the undeserved praise. “Oh, but that’s different. I mean, I can help with small cuts and burns, bruises and bumps. Things like that. But a—a gladiator?”
“Trust me, he bleeds just the same as you and me,” Titus assured you, taking you by the arm and leading you through the kitchens and across the open gardens of the villa until you came to the locked gate through which you had never entered before. Pulling a small ring of keys from inside his toga, Titus fitted one into the lock and turned.
The sound of it reverberated through your skull as the old medicus guided you through the opening in the gate.
Titus must have noted your growing agitation as you walked across the empty training grounds and towards the private cells where the gladiators resided because he gently patted your arm and glanced down at you with a sympathetic look in his eyes.
“He’s asleep right now,” he told you quietly, guiding you surely past sealed door after sealed door. How many gladiators were kept here exactly? “He wouldn’t do you any harm—don’t let the name fool you—but even so, he should be fairly worn out while we’re tending to him.”
“What happened to him exactly?” you asked, your trepidation slowly giving way to a sort of gentle curiosity. You had seen brutal injuries over the years, but the thought of seeing a gladiator’s injuries up close made you feel a little woozy.
“Took part of a battle ax to the chest,” Titus replied, as if it were the most common thing in the world. He must have noticed your eyes bugging out of your head because he quickly added, “It’s not as bad as it sounds. And he’s been through worse. But still, between that and some other smaller wounds, I could really use the assistance. I’ll walk you through it,” he told you calmly, finally stopping in front of a closed door, the farthest one from the training grounds. It seemed that being the champion had its perks, for this cell afforded its occupant the most quiet and the most privacy.
You held your breath as Titus pushed the door open, your heart thumping in your chest as you followed behind him on quiet feet. Maybe he was right—you really were like a gazelle they’d just let loose in the arena, terrified of being devoured by the prowling lions.
The cell was smaller than you had initially anticipated and scarcely furnished—for all that he was Rome’s champion, you realized with startling clarity, Gallus was still a slave. There was a small bronze brazier in the corner, which Titus had evidently already lit to provide some illumination—the small window high on the wall only afforded so much daylight. Against another wall was a small wooden table, on which sat a pitcher and a couple scattered cups. There was one stool tucked neatly underneath. You took in all this before your eyes slowly glided to the other end of the room, in which there was a low bed pressed against the wall.
And on that bed lay a man.
The largest man you had ever seen.
You let out the breath you hadn’t even realized you’d still been holding as your eyes fell on him, taking in the unconscious form of “The Barbarian of Britannia.”
You weren’t really sure what you had been expecting. Maybe, with a name like that, you’d secretly been anticipating some kind of monster, a half-man with twisted fangs and sharp claws, like in the stories you’d heard growing up as a child.
But he was just a man.
Not a beast. Not a monster. A man.
As Titus nudged you closer toward his bedside, and your eyes adjusted to the dim light in the cell, you were able to take a fuller measure of him.
He was nearly naked. You were suddenly acutely aware of that fact. You had seen naked bodies before—there was no dignity afforded the enslaved—and it didn’t embarrass you, not really, but you suddenly felt a burning urge to avert your gaze and look anywhere but at him.
Maybe it was because of his size. He was just so large, that you almost wondered how you and Titus had managed to cram into this tiny cell beside him. His shoulders, his chest, his arms, his legs—they all looked so massive and powerful, even as he lay in that vulnerable state. No wonder he was undefeated.
As your eyes shyly made their way back up his form, you took note of all the scars that marked his skin. His thighs were littered with them, including a deep gash just above his left knee. His arms and hands were much the same, including some fresh marks that he must have acquired just today, as Titus had said.
His chest and shoulders were what caused the gasp to catch in your throat. There, right across the center of his chest, was a bloody gouge, the lacerated edges indicating the mark of a Roman battle ax. And up on his shoulder was a massive scar, the skin pink and puckered from a wound that had clearly taken a long time to heal.
Finally, your eyes landed on his face. His chin was deeply scarred as well, the marks telling a story you could only begin to imagine. You tilted your head to the side, gazing curiously at the hair that adorned the top of his lip. Living your entire life in Rome, you’d only ever seen men clean-shaven, perhaps with a day or two’s worth of scruff. You had never seen a man appear to grow hair so intentionally on his face before, and you found yourself transfixed.
It was dark, as was the rest of his hair, though as you moved closer to the bed you realized that there were streaks of gold buried in the thick depths. It seemed to fall softly, not as short as the way Roman men wore it, yet not quite as long as you would imagine a barbarian from Britannia to keep it.
His dark lashes fluttered slightly as you stood over him, but he didn’t wake.
And for some inexplicable reason, you weren’t afraid.
By all accounts, this man had slaughtered hundreds, had stolen their very life breath with the hands that now lay still at his sides. And yet, as you stood beside him, you felt no fear.
“Here, take a seat,” Titus told you kindly, reaching for the stool that sat beneath the small table and setting it down for you beside the bed. “I did a cursory cleansing of his wounds when he first arrived back, but it looks like the cut is deep enough that it’s going to require sutures. While I’m preparing the instruments, I would like you to apply a poultice I made. It should hopefully relieve some of the pain and cleanse the gash further.”
You simply nodded in response, reaching for the strips of clean linens that had already been prepared. From the smell of them, Titus had put together a concoction involving acid vinegar. Grabbing hold of the longest strip, you laid it across Gallus’ chest and began to gently press it into his open wound. He let out a soft hiss under his breath, which made you stiffen slightly, but still he did not wake. Breathing deeply, you reached for another vinegar-soaked linen strip and laid it across one of the minor wounds on his forearm.
Within moments, you had the poultice applied to every wound that was visible to your eyes, your heart growing heavy as you began to take stock of just how many injuries—both new and old—this man had suffered in his life. Glancing over your shoulder, you saw that Titus was still preparing his instruments for suturing, soaking his needles in vinegar and passing them through the flames of the brazier.
Looking back down at the gladiator who had somehow ended up entrusted to your care, you found your heart moved in a sudden rush of compassion for him. What had his life been like before he was brought here? Did he have a family? A home? Did he even want to be doing this?
Reaching out slowly, you found yourself stroking his forehead with gentle fingers, brushing his hair away from his face. Your fingertips trailed slowly down his cheek, tracing the contours of his skin, feeling the firm bone beneath. His skin was so warm that it was practically hot to the touch.
You were gazing down at him, cupping his cheek in your hand, when his eyes suddenly fluttered open, two dark orbs staring up at you.
He blinked once.
Then twice.
Confusion passed through his eyes for a moment as he gazed at you, your hand still resting on his cheek.
Then his expression hardened, his dark eyes as stony and unyielding as obsidian.
“Who are you?” he demanded roughly, his voice sounding angry. He tried to sit up, tried to move away from your touch, but ended up wincing in pain.
You removed your hand from his face immediately, suddenly feeling foolish. “I—I—” you stammered, not knowing how to respond. Your tongue was suddenly stuck to the roof of your mouth.
“Oh, don’t be such a brute,” Titus scolded, suddenly appearing over your shoulder as you rose from the stool, nearly tripping backwards over it. “See, you’ve got the poor girl all upset when all she was trying to do was help you.”
Gallus scowled coldly at the medicus, eyes narrowing. “What is she doing here? Where’s Phoenix?” he demanded, his gravelly voice making goosebumps rise on your skin. He spared a brief glance in your direction, but then his eyes narrowed further and he quickly turned away.
“Phoenix had other obligations, and I needed the help. What were you thinking, taking an ax to the chest like that?” Titus asked, seemingly unfazed by this hulking man’s barely concealed fury.
“My apologies,” Gallus spat bitterly, glaring. He glanced down at linen bandages covering his body, wincing some more as he forced himself into a sitting position despite his obvious agony. Blood was already starting to soak through most of them.
“Oh, you shouldn’t!” you exclaimed before you could stop yourself, instinctively moving towards him to try to fix the bandaging.
He pulled away from you and his glare intensified. You swallowed, dropping your gaze to your bare feet.
“Get her out of here, Titus,” he said coldly, turning to stare at the far wall.
“Gallus, she—”
“Get. Her. Out,” he forced out through gritted teeth, refusing to look at you again.
“I’ll go,” you said softly, holding up a placating hand towards Titus when it looked like the older man was going to continue to argue. “I’m sorry,” you added, almost to yourself, as you slipped out of the cell and ran without looking back out of the ludus.
You hoped you would never have to go back there again.
Tumblr media
He had never felt hands so gentle in his life.
For a moment, just for a moment as he’d started to come to, he’d wondered if maybe that Germanic fighter’s ax really had killed him and he was being welcomed into the fields of eternity.
That was the only explanation for a touch so soft, a touch that seemed to reach deep down into the very core of him.
But then he’d opened his eyes and he realized that the sweet release of death had not yet claimed him.
He was still in his dank, dingy cell, his body wracked with an agony that he’d somehow learned to live with over the years. He was not yet free.
And yet, that touch remained.
That face had appeared, floating above him and looking deeply into his eyes—when had he last seen a face so innocent? When had he ever seen a face so innocent?
When had he ever felt a touch so gentle?
Never.
And so he recoiled instantly, knowing that a man like him didn’t deserve a touch so light and tender. A man like him didn’t deserve to be in the presence of such innocence.
He would only destroy it, as he destroyed everything else.
He felt shame—damn, when had he last felt shame?—bubble up inside him as that innocent face fell at his cruel and cutting words, disappearing from his sight as its owner fled his cell without a backwards glance.
Good.
He didn’t like the feeling that innocent face and those gentle hands had stirred deep inside him, deep inside that place that still ached and longed for something just beyond his reach.
He hoped she never came back.
“You really are a fucking brute, you know that?” Titus scoffed in disgust, pushing him back down onto the bed and forcibly adjusting his bandages.
His hands certainly weren’t gentle.
“Shut up, Titus,” Gallus muttered brusquely, turning his face away from the older man. He and the medicus had known each other for quite some time, and neither of them had any qualms when it came to blunt honesty.
“She only came here because I asked her to,” Titus went on, as if he hadn’t spoken. “And I only asked her to because Phoenix told me how good she was at tending wounds,” he said pointedly.
Gallus just blinked. If Titus expected him to look chastened, he would be sorely disappointed, no matter that a nagging feeling of guilt was tugging at his gut.
“Why didn’t you just bring Phoenix?” he demanded, frowning like a petulant child.
“I told you, she’s busy. Or have you forgotten that she’s at the beck and call of Atticus and Aurelia, and not you?” Titus asked sharply, raising a brow as he looked down at him.
Gallus flushed angrily at his words, his hands balling into tight fights.
“Easy there, barbarian,” Titus murmured, his tone softening slightly. “She’ll be back soon enough. I’ll have her come check on you later tonight.”
The two of them were quiet for a while as Titus focused on his work, beginning the slow process of stitching up the wound on Gallus’ chest. Gallus’ jaw clenched, but he made no complaints.
“You should apologize to her,” Titus said quietly, once his work was done and he was washing his hands in the small basin he’d brought with him.
“I’ve never even seen her before,” Gallus said gruffly, leaning back against the wall. “What, does she live here now?”
“She belongs here now,” Titus corrected. “She’s just as much a slave as you are, Gallus, so you don’t have to take out your rage against Rome on her.”
He deflated slightly at the medicus’ words, that nagging feeling returning to his chest. “I’ve never seen her before,” he said again, more quietly this time.
“She was only brought here a couple months ago. Aurelia keeps her busy in the villa, so there’s never been any reason to send her over to the ludus,” Titus explained, drying his hands and packing up his supplies.
Gallus’ jaw tightened angrily at the mention of Aurelia’s name, but he ignored the feeling of disgust that rose inside him. “So how do you expect me to apologize to her then?”
“I’m sure you’ll find a way,” Titus shrugged, the hint of a smirk tugging at his lips. “Well, I’m off to see to the others. Have a good evening, barbarian,” he said without malice, closing the door to the cell behind him as he left.
“Sure,” Gallus muttered darkly, lying back on his bed and trying not to remember what the touch of those gentle hands had felt like.
Tumblr media
It took a few days before he saw you again.
It wasn’t like he was going out of his way to find you or anything like that. No, he was just keeping an eye out. If he happened to see you, he would apologize, and if not, then he wouldn’t.
If he just so happened to walk by the fence that separated the ludus from the main villa more often than usual, what was that to anybody?
Almost a week after his abrupt dismissal of you from his cell, he had just about given up hope that he would ever lay eyes on you again when he suddenly saw you appear at the opening in the fence, Phoenix by your side.
He could only assume, judging by the large baskets you both carried, that you had come to collect laundry from the ludus. Well, and there was plenty of it. He saw Phoenix say something to you, but from this distance, he couldn’t judge what it was. All he knew was that she suddenly left your side, retreating back through the fence towards the villa.
This was it. Probably the only opportunity he’d have to apologize. He’d never hear the end of it from Titus if he didn’t.
Sighing, he stepped into the hot midafternoon sun and began crossing the pathway until he was just a few feet away from you.
You had seen him coming. He’d seen the way your eyes had caught on his figure as he approached—it was rather hard for someone of his size to be stealthy—and he didn’t fail to notice the way your shoulders stiffened slightly.
He frightened you.
Normally, he didn’t mind. He often relished the fact that he was able to strike fear into people’s hearts. But this time, the realization rankled.
“I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” he muttered without preamble, his voice sounding gruff to his own ears.
When was the last time he had apologized for anything?
Your eyes widened as you stared up at him, but you didn’t say anything in response.
“I was—rude to you the other day,” he went on awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot as he stood before you. “It wasn’t your fault that—well, I just mean—I shouldn’t have said what I said. I’m sorry.”
The quiet between the two of you stretched until it became almost unbearable. He was about to turn on his heel and walk away when you suddenly stepped forward, staring at a spot on his arm.
“You’re bleeding,” you said softly, pointing at one of the bandages on his arm, through which dark red blood was starting to seep.
“What?” he asked in confusion, blinking down at where you were pointing. “Oh, that. Yeah. Stubborn thing just doesn’t want to heal. It keeps opening,” he said, shrugging it off.
“I can help,” you told him, stepping closer and gingerly touching his arm on either side of the wound.
He stiffened and you flinched.
“I’m sorry,” you murmured as you let him go, your head lowering just as it had when he’d demanded to know who you were. “I shouldn’t have—”
“No, it’s alright,” he said, his voice quieter now. “I’ve heard you’re a very good healer.”
“I don’t know about that, but I know how to patch up wounds,” you replied, chancing a glance upwards.
He suddenly found himself wanting to know where you had acquired that skill—and why it had been necessary.
“My name is Gallus,” he found himself saying, not quite sure why.
Your lips started to curve into just a hint of a smile as you opened your mouth to reply. “My name is—”
“Sabina!”
Phoenix’s voice suddenly rang out as she came hurrying back through the fence and onto the grounds of the ludus. She came to a sudden halt when she saw him standing beside you.
“Is this barbarian bothering you?” Phoenix asked, the humor in her tone shining through.
“No, no, I was just going to—”
“No time. Aurelia is demanding your presence in the kitchen,” Phoenix sighed, rolling her eyes. “I’ll handle the laundry over here. You go.”
“Oh, but Gallus’ arm,” you countered, indicating the bloody bandage wrapped about his forearm.
“I’ll be fine,” he hastened to reassure you, though he felt his blood growing hot at the demand from Aurelia.
“I’ll check it for him,” Phoenix promised, pushing you along. “Now go. I don’t want you getting in trouble,” she said firmly.
Your eyes drifted over Phoenix’s shoulder and landed on him once more.
He hadn’t been mistaken. Yours really was the most innocent face he had ever seen.
“Goodbye, Gallus,” you said softly, turning and disappearing back inside the massive walls of the villa.
He glanced down at his arm, where he could still feel your touch.
“Goodbye, Sabina,” he whispered in response.
Tumblr media
Your head felt a bit fuzzy and unfocused as you tripped your way to the kitchen, rushing to get there so that Domina would not be displeased.
But at the moment, your domina was the least of your concerns.
For the past week, you had been doing your best to avoid the ludus at all costs, never wanting to step foot on those grounds again.
Now you were wondering how you could get back.

On this day in history, 20th February 1547, King Edward VI was crowned King at Westminster Abbey. However, the celebrations had begun the day before…
On the afternoon of Saturday 19th February, the boy King processed out of the Tower of London. He was dressed in white velvet, which was embroidered with silver thread and decorated with lovers’ knots made from pearls, along with diamonds and rubies. He also had a gown of gold mesh and a sable cape, and the horse upon which he rode had been dressed in crimson satin decorated with pearls.
The procession consisted of the King’s messengers, the King’s gentlemen, his trumpeters, his chaplains and esquires of the body, all walking. Then came the nobility on horseback and members of the council paired with foreign diplomats. After them processed the gentlemen ushers and Henry Grey, the Marquis of Dorset and Constable of England, bearing the sword of state. Finally, there was the nine year-old king, Edward VI, escorted by the Duke of Somerset (his uncle, Edward Seymour) and the Earl of Warwick (John Dudley). They were followed by the Sir Anthony Browne (the King’s Master of the Horse), the henchmen, the Gentlemen of the Privy Chamber, the pensioners and the guard.
Edward VI’s biographer, Chris Skidmore, writes of how Cheapside was richly decorated with cloth of silver and gold, but that some of the pageants arranged for the day, at very short notice, “turned into shambles”. One pageant drew on the coronation of Henry VI as King of France in 1432, another boy king, and another made use of Jane Seymour’s phoenix, Henry VIII’s lion and the roses and hawthorn bush devices of the Tudor dynasty. Skidmore describes how the phoenix descended from the heavens to land on a mount decorated by red and white roses and hawthorn bushes. A crowned lion then approached, followed by a young cub. At the cub’s appearance, two angels descended and crowned him with an Imperial crown. The phoenix and lion then departed, leaving the crowned cub alone
Other displays along the route included depictions of Edward the Confessor, St George and “Truth”, a child representing the New Religion. Skidmore writes of how the young king particularly enjoyed watching a tightrope walker, who balanced along a cable as he descended to kiss the King’s foot.
The next day, at 9am, King Edward VI travelled to Whitehall by barge. He was met by the guard and pensioners and then he walked to the chamber of the Court of Augmentations, where he put on his Parliament robes of ermine-trimmed crimson velvet. The King then processed to Westminster Abbey for the coronation ceremony under a canopy carried by the barons of the Cinque Ports. He was flanked by the Earl of Shrewsbury and the Bishop of Durham, and followed by John Dudley, William Parr and Thomas Seymour, who all bore his train. Behind them processed the Gentlemen of the Privy Chamber, the nobility, the pensioners, the guard and the court servants.
A dais had been erected in the richly decorated Abbey. On it was a throne decorated in damask and gold, with two cushions to help raise the small King. The traditional coronation ceremony, used since 1375, had been adapted for the boy King. Instead of twelve hours, it would be seven. Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, had also changed the coronation oath so that “reformation of the Church could now be enabled by royal prerogative, the king as lawmaker”. The changes were explained in a sermon by Cranmer, who also likened Edward to the Biblical Josiah, and then the young king was anointed and crowned with the St Edward’s crown, the Imperial crown and a custom-made lighter crown. Edward then held the orb, the sceptre, St Edward’s staff and the spurs. He was King, and the nobility now came before him one by one to kiss his left cheek.
The coronation ceremony was followed by a banquet in Westminster’s Great Hall, more feasting and entertainment at Whitehall, and then two days of jousting and feasting.
Trivia: Edward VI was the first monarch to be anointed as Supreme Head of the English Church.

Dungeon23: The Room List
Well folks, this has been one hell of a journey. I am not entirely happy with all 365 of the rooms that ended up here, and I was forced to completely abandon the proper goals of mapping and keying that, in theory, were the entire point of the challenge. So in the formal sense, I failed #Dungeon23 several months ago. But! I made it out of the year with a complete list of unique room/encounter concepts (staggeringly few of which are simply "empty"), and that's nothing to sneeze at.
I'm going to throw up another post (hopefully) soon to talk about the next steps with the project. As for now, keep in mind that I've had to do tons of reorganizing to complete the list, so a lot of chambers have been renamed and/or renumbered and won't match up with when they were originally published on the blog. Also, fair warning that a lot of them have "placeholder" names that will seem either absurd or meaningless (but they work for me as far as finding the relevant info in my own notes). Oh and, uh, yeah, major spoilers, of course.

Character Interview Tag
Thank you @authoressasusual for tagging me!
1. What is your full name?
"I am Her Royal Highness Fenice vi Aetier, the Reilma-Imperessa and Duchess of Isidore"
2. What does you full name mean?
"The Phoenix of Aetier. The one meant to symbolize the dawn of the new age, the physical embodiment of the throne I was bred for and the banner which I must uphold.
It is...a lot of responsibility, and one that I will never manage to fulfill. Not yet, at least."
3. What are your other names/nicknames?
My mother often called me her little fievra; her little firebird. Sola Eidos, frustratingly enough, loved to switch between the rather inane 'Feni,' or 'princess.' (she snaps her fan open, covering her mouth as she grumbles beneath her breath) The more insolent ones dare to call me Deadborn in my presence, but it is merely truth, however much it hurts.
3. What's your gender?
"I am one of the fairer sex. Though, as my mother had demonstrated--gods rest her soul--we women aren't always what constitutes as 'fair.'"
4. What's your sexuality?
"Does it matter? I am attracted to neither side. There's no point in it for me in the end."
5. Where are you from?
"The Kingdom of Aetier. I was born within the capital city, though I was raised in the Isidorian fiefdom for the majority of my life."
6. How old are you?
"At this moment I am fifteen, though I am soon to reach my majority within a couple of months."
7. What is your magic form/what species are you?
"I am human, however much of an anomaly I may be in the eyes of the laws of nature. If we are to believe all the knowledge compiled in thousands of years, I am considered to be dead. One cannot survive without Pneuma, or magic in layman's terms, it is impossible. At least--" (she grimaces, snapping her fan shut) "--if you haven't been unfortunate enough to be born like me."
9. What does your human form look like?
"I am told I look like my mother, though that might only be because of the red hair." (Her fingers absentmindedly touched the ends of her braid, elegantly swept over her shoulder.) "But perhaps I've inherited more from her than from my sire. My only physical tie to him are the silver eyes passed down from the vi Aetier line."
10. What's your aesthetic?
I hope to emulate the style of Empress Euphemia III, the first woman to have held dominion over the Raian Empire (She is poised in her chair, slender hands ringlets and folded in her lap. The soft green skirts of her chiton pool around her feet, it's hems embroidered with a simplistic pattern of gold thread. Woven in her hair are small jewels that sparkle at the slightest turn of the head, a simple diadem resting above her brow. She has few jewelry, though the ones she does have are carefully picked and tastefully done. It is hardly the most complex of looks, but in a way, it gives off the regal and dignified aura more that any ostentatious style can.)
11. Who's your best friend?
"I think you misunderstand. There are no friends in court. I have allies, confidants and the like, but no friends. Perhaps the closest people to fit such a criteria is...no, not even Sola would fit, however many of my secrets he does hold...perhaps Miss Leda, my protector and governess. She has been with me through out the majority of my life and I trust her completely."
12. Would you ever get a piercing or tattoo?
"No."
13. When are you happiest?
"When I am reading at my leisure. Though I am quite sure that I shan't ever feel true contentment until I achieve my ambitions."
14. What's your biggest secret?
"I can't tell you. It's not the right time to spread such delicate information. Maybe one day..."
15. What was your first impression of your s/o?
"I do not have a significant other--" (she sighs) "--though I have been informed by the author that I will have a prospective fiance. I haven't met him, but I am told of his numerous virtues. Namely being the next heir to the Caldonian throne, a competent prince, handsome, and desperate enough to make an alliance with Aetier that he is willing to marry a deadborn."
"It matters not. This engagement won't go farther than it needs to."

Book II Elegy VI: The Death of Corinna’s Pet Parrot
Parrot, the mimic, the winged one from India’s Orient,
is dead – Go, birds, in a flock and follow him to the grave!
Go, pious feathered ones, beat your breasts with your wings
and mark your delicate cheeks with hard talons:
tear out your shaggy plumage, instead of hair, in mourning:
sound out your songs with long piping!
Philomela , mourning the crime of the Thracian tyrant,
the years of your mourning are complete:
divert your lament to the death of a rare bird –
Itys is a great but ancient reason for grief.
All who balance in flight in the flowing air,
and you, above others, his friend the turtle-dove, grieve!
All your lives you were in perfect concord,
and held firm in your faithfulness to the end.
What the youth from Phocis was to Orestes of Argos,
while she could be, Parrot, turtle-dove was to you.
What worth now your loyalty, your rare form and colour,
the clever way you altered the sound of your voice,
what joy in the pleasure given you by our mistress? –
Unhappy one, glory of birds, you’re certainly dead!
You could dim emeralds matched to your fragile feathers,
wearing a beak dyed scarlet spotted with saffron.
No bird on earth could better copy a voice –
or reply so well with words in a lisping tone!
You were snatched by Envy – you who never made war:
you were garrulous and a lover of gentle peace.
Behold, quails live fighting amongst themselves:
perhaps that’s why they frequently reach old age.
Your food was little, compared with your love of talking
you could never free your beak much for eating.
Nuts were his diet, and poppy-seed made him sleep,
and he drove away thirst with simple draughts of water.
Gluttonous vultures may live and kites, tracing spirals
in air, and jackdaws, informants of rain to come:
and the raven detested by armed Minerva lives too –
he whose strength can last out nine generations:
but that loquacious mimic of the human voice,
Parrot, the gift from the end of the earth, is dead!
The best are always taken first by greedy hands:
the worse make up a full span of years.
Thersites saw Protesilaus’s sad funeral,
and Hector was ashes while his brothers lived.
Why recall the pious prayers of my frightened girl for you –
prayers that a stormy south wind blew out to sea?
The seventh dawn came with nothing there beyond,
and Fate held an empty spool of thread for you.
Yet still the words from his listless beak astonished:
dying his tongue cried: ‘Corinna, farewell!’
A grove of dark holm oaks leafs beneath an Elysian slope,
the damp earth green with everlasting grass.
If you can believe it, they say there’s a place there
for pious birds, from which ominous ones are barred.
There innocuous swans browse far and wide
and the phoenix lives there, unique immortal bird:
There Juno’s peacock displays his tail-feathers,
and the dove lovingly bills and coos.
Parrot gaining a place among those trees
translates the pious birds in his own words.
A tumulus holds his bones – a tumulus fitting his size –
whose little stone carries lines appropriate for him:
‘His grave holds one who pleased his mistress:
his speech to me was cleverer than other birds’.
-- Ovid. Translated by A. S. Kline
TLDR; Ovid beats the Dead Parrot Sketch by 1985 years.

MAKE ME A BIRD
I
Seijurou didn’t know anything about falling until he crashed face-down into the dirt. He spat grass and mud out of his mouth. With his calloused hands, he touched the spine of the ground as if it would teach him its history; all he heard was a rumble of footsteps coming his way.
“Are you alright?” asked a rich baritone. Seijurou looked up at a boy with sorrowful eyes. His brows were knitted in distress. Seijurou still didn’t cast an eye on his own pitiful presence; he must’ve been a sad sight.
But this boy wasn’t in better shape himself.
Blood was trickling in thin lines down his nose, some of it staining his white shirt. His glasses were askew. On one of his bloodied fingers hung a grocery bag filled with medicine and bandages. There was a dark blue bruise under his eye.
Seijurou chuckled darkly.
“This is why humans are trouble. Why would you worry about others when you’re not doing well yourself…?”
“Point taken,” the boy said, still doing nothing to adjust his glasses. He looked up at the overcast sky, decorated here and there with a lonely star or two. “Where did you fall from?”
“Heaven.”
Seijurou was prepared to watch the boy leave after that claim but the boy only narrowed his eyes, like a hawk would upon descending on its prey. The curiosity sent gooseflesh down Seijurou’s tender skin which was when he noticed that he was naked. Wind howled around him and he shivered.
“Does that make you an angel?” The boy inquired.
Seijurou touched his pale flesh; it felt alive under his fingertips. “Not anymore.” The skin between his shoulder blades itched; something was still there, writhing underneath. Seijurou did his best to keep it inside.
The boy seemed to ponder for a moment, and then he turned around to walk away. Seijurou’s heart sank; at least that’s how he’d call the hollow sensation permeating his chest.
“Come with me,” the boy called, his broad back staring back at Seijurou. “I seem to have bought too many bandages…”
Seijurou got up on his thin, shaky legs and followed.
II
“Do you live alone?”
“No.”
Seijurou walked over the threshold of that boy’s home without asking for his name. Nobody in the house called his name either. Seijurou cautiously trailed behind him as they walked up the stairs. He had decades of observing experience to know what naivety brought to those who easily trusted their fellow man.
But Seijurou felt safe, even when his bare feet entered the boy’s spacious room. All furniture was next to the wall, leaving an open area in the middle of the room.
“Let’s clean your wound first,” the boy said and sat Seijurou at the chair next to the desk. Seijurou followed every move of the boy’s hand as he prepared a cotton swab. When he pressed it to Seijurou’s chest, he felt nothing. Dry blood was slowly disappearing. The boy swabbed for a while and then stopped. “There’s nothing.”
Seijurou smiled reassuringly and touched his now spotless skin. “It must’ve healed.”
The boy smacked his lips together. “Those doors lead to the bathroom. Go wash yourself. Do you know how?”
Seijurou raised his eyebrow in challenge. “So, you believe me now?”
“I’ll prepare some clothes for you,” the boy brushed past Seijurou’s question and went to search through his walk-in closet. “You can stay the night.”
“Why do you trust me?”
The boy smiled, there were shadows in the crooks of his teeth. “I saw you fall down.”
III
“What is your name?” Seijurou asked. He was tucked in a futon at the foot of the boy’s bed. The sleeves of the shirt he was given reached to his elbows, but it must’ve been a perfect fit for its owner. He listened to the darkness until the boy spoke.
“Midorima Shintarou.”
“Shintarou. It suits you.”
“First name basis already…?”
“Angels don’t have a family name. We are all one family so there’s no point. My name is Seijurou.”
Shintarou’s sheets rustled.
“Seijurou… What are you going to do from now on?”
Seijurou tried to make out Shintarou’s face in the dark but he kept the blinds closed shut; not a speck of moonlight entered his room. “First, I’ll sleep. Then I’ll wake. And I’ll let you ask the questions you’re dying to ask later.”
Seijurou had received no reply for so long that his eyelids began sinking over his eyes.
“Good night.”
IV
Seijurou woke at the crack of dawn. Shintarou slept undisturbed as he slipped out of his covers and pulled the blinds open. The fall from Shintarou’s window wasn’t long but it rattled Seijurou’s his bones. He threaded on the pavement barefoot, his curiosity leading the way.
Most people passed him by. Some gave a scornful look upon seeing his feet. Some asked them where he bought his hair dye. Seijurou gave nothing away but he was well aware that the shade of his red hair wasn’t of this world; it glistened on the sun like feathers of a phoenix.
When the night fell, his stomach felt peckish. He hid in a shade and set his wings free. They were much smaller than before and perhaps a bit longer than his height. Seijurou surmised that they wouldn’t hold his weight much longer. So he took a running start, swung them once and ascended.
Nights were much colder and Shintarou’s cotton pants and shirt didn’t keep warmth close to his skin, but Seijurou kept flying until he dissolved into shivers and forcefully landed on a hill.
The hill was enclosed by a broken fence and but a single bench remained intact. He sat on it and went slack. Strength was leaving his body. When he was a whole angel, he could fly for days; his strong wings could take him anywhere above the clouds – but above the clouds only.
Seijurou cast his eyes on the city and its dying lights.
He wondered what he would’ve seen if he had been human; if any of this actually mattered.
V
Seijurou appeared on Shintarou’s window at midnight. The lights were on and the window was wide open. He wondered if it was for him.
“May I come in?” He asked, one of his legs dangling over the edge of the window.
“Do you think I just leave my window opened during the night?”
Seijurou retracted his wings as much as he could and gracefully landed into Shintarou’s room. It smelled like cleaning products today and his futon was put away somewhere. He noticed Shintarou was staring wide-eyed at him, his mouth agape.
“Oh, these?” Seijurou pointed to his battered wings. “I thought I could fly back here but… You can see what happened.”
His wings had multiple branches and thorns stuck among their feathers; some of them penetrated the skin, smearing blood all over his back. Shintarou’s shirt was completely destroyed.
“Bath. Now,” Shintarou said through his teeth.
Once in the bathroom, Shintarou stripped him of all clothes and helped him get into the tub. He filled it with just enough warm water to cover Seijurou’s dirty, frozen feet. He grabbed a pair of tweezers and hovered over his wings, insecure and fidgeting.
“You’ll have to pluck them one by one,” Seijurou instructed. He hugged his knees and bent his back lightly to provide better access to his wings.
“Will it hurt you?”
“Yes. But I’ll endure.”
Shintarou inhaled and exhaled a deep, shaky breath. Then he began patiently plucking away, wincing every time Seijurou did.
VI
“I’m sorry for getting you dirty,” Seijurou murmured. He was still hugging his knees but only to make more room in the bath for Shintarou. He was sitting behind him; long legs sprawled on either side of Seijurou’s thighs.
“It’s alright.”
Seijurou managed to retract his wings once they were spotless. He felt Shintarou’s breath on the back of his damp neck and sensed that a question was coming.
“May I touch you?” Shintarou uttered in a voice as thin as cobwebs.
“You may.”
Seijurou had, naturally, never been touched by a human hand. He heard other angels whispering about it often, but they didn’t know either.
When Shintarou’s finger touched the tip of his spine, Seijurou realized that all stories were wrong. He threw his head back as a finger dragged over each vertebra, as if Shintarou were counting them. Once he was done with them, Shintarou’s palms blossomed on his ribs and trailed north to his nipples. It tickled, where Shintarou touched them, but it turned into a different sensation all together when Shintarou pressed his lips to the nape of his neck.
Seijurou whimpered; it was an involuntary whimper that sounded foreign even to his own ears.
Shintarou withdrew his hand, as if burned by the sound. “Why did you fall?” Shintarou inquired. Seijurou was displeased at the loss of contact. He petulantly leaned back into Shintarou’s chest and looked up.
“Life is meaningless if it stretches endlessly. There’s nothing to gain, nothing to lose. There’s no absolution because there’s no sin. Boring, boring, boring…” Seijuro paused to twirl a strand of his wet hair between his fingers. “The moment an angel thinks that, it’s already over for him.”
Shintarou said nothing after that so Seijurou took the liberty of leading his hands back to his chest. “You may continue.”
“I feel bad for doing this,” Shintarou admitted. His fingers dug into Seijurou’s side and remained still.
“Why? I want you to. If anyone should be feeling bad, it’s me. I’m merely using you to sate my curiosity.”
“I am curious too, you know.”
Seijurou chuckled. “All the more reason you should continue.”
So Shintarou did.
VII
Seijurou woke with ash in his mouth. He spat it to his side thinking that he must’ve been dreaming. Shintarou’s concerned, drowsy face told him otherwise.
“It happens,” he explained. It never happened. But Seijurou knew what it meant. He pretended to go back to sleep but his back itched and his throat was dry. He ate the eggs that Shintarou made for breakfast, even though he wasn’t feeling hungry, and truly pretended as if it merely ‘happenned’.
“Shintarou, you never told me why you were beaten that night we met.”
“I expressed my honest opinion and somebody didn’t like it.”
“Sounds like our troubles aren’t all that different.”
“That might just be so.”
VIII
In the afternoon, Seijurou found a board of shogi underneath Shintarou’s bed.
“May we play?” Seijurou asked, his finger scraping the sides of the board. It was worn and well-used.
“Do you know how to?”
“I have a good grasp of the rules. I’ve often watched professional shogi matches.”
Shintarou chuckled, shyly his mouth with the back of his hand. “I almost feel bad for beating a newbie.”
Seijurou won all three shogi games.
Shintarou’s eyebrow seemed to be raised in disbelief for good. “Are you sure this is the first time you’ve played? It must be your angel mojo…”
“I assure you that I would’ve won even if I were completely human.”
“Such confidence. I demand a rematch!”
Seijurou lifted a shogi piece off the board but it slipped out of his fingers; they were growing number by an hour, sense of touch slowly slipping away. He used both his hands to successfully lift the piece onto its designated place.
“Rematch it is.”
IX
That evening, Seijurou spat out a mouthful of ash. The taste was bitter in his mouth and it took him three glasses of water to wash it off.
“Are you sure this just happens?” Shintarou asked; he was pulling at Seijurou’s arm, intent on getting information.
Seijurou tucked his hair behind his ear and dodged: “There’s a place I want to go tonight. Would you take me?” The itch in his back was unbearable and he was losing feeling in his legs; it was like being dismembered by a cruel puppeteer.
Shintarou scoffed. “You’re not telling me something.”
“I’ll tell you when we get there.”
X
“Give me a piggyback ride, Shintarou,” Seijurou proposed, arms outstretched in front of him as far he could make it. Shintarou fixed his glasses and, without a moment’s hesitation, bent his knees so Seijurou could climb on his back. He hugged Shintarou’s neck as if they were in a vast ocean and he couldn’t swim.
“Lead the way.”
Streets seemed like a giant maze but Seijurou confidently navigated through the streets. He hummed his favourite song to chase the silence away.
XI
The spot at the top of the hill was as vacant as a day ago. Shintarou put Seijurou down on the bench. He took a few moments to catch his breath before he sat down as well.
The city unfolding before him was static, silent.
“Do you know why angels fall?”
Shintarou shook his head.
“It’s punishment. Like I’ve said, your only betrayal is the desire to be like humans. We are exiled to get that chance.”
Shintarou all but snarled. “So you die for it? You are dying, right?”
“Correct. Our bodies aren’t compatible with this world,” Seijurou smiled at this cruellest irony; it smiled back. “We merely get a sample, a taste of your life. And then we perish.”
“That seems unnecessarily cruel.”
“It is the way it is. We all know it the moment we think about it. In all honestly, I thought I’d just die when I fell. But I was lucky. You found me.”
Shintarou might’ve smiled but Seijurou couldn’t tell. The sky was a starless tent.
“Are you sad, Shintarou?”
“A little. In all honesty, I don’t think the reality of your existence have hit me yet.”
“I see, that’s reasonable. Our time together was short,” Seijurou searched for Shintarou’s hand in the dark. When he found it, slack on the bench, he took it in his own. “Hold my hand until the morning.”
Shintarou squeezed his hand. The grip was strong enough for Seijurou to be able feel it. Ash slid out of his mouth in short coughs; his knees were feather-light.
“Who would’ve thought that ‘remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return’ was quite literal.”
Shintarou didn’t laugh.
He held Seijurou’s hand until it crumbled into his hand just as the first rays of sun spilled over the horizon. He closed his fist tightly and walked to the edge of the hill. He opened his palm and let the angel fly one last time.
XII
There was a little hill that paid attention to. It was in fact so rarely attended to that nobody noticed a small grave with no body underneath, just a small plate with a single sentence engraved:
Whoever said best things don’t just fall from the sky has obviously never met an angel.

hi! i'm really interested in applying for this group. i was wondering: who are your absolute most-wanted for current in game plots? also, what is currently happening in game, like in terms of events or threads?
Hi there!
We’d love to see any open character taken, but in terms of Most Wanted for current and upcoming plots, that would probably be Peter Pettigrew, Fenrir Greyback and pretty much any of the other Death Eaters. Currently we don’t have too many of the baddies and we have a lot of ideas that would use them.
In terms of Most Wanted Characters for relationships with our taken characters, we’d love a Lucius Malfoy for Narcissa (who’s pregnant with Draco), an Amelia Bones for her brother Edgar, an Alecto to complete the Carrow twin duo and, though he was mentioned above as well, a Peter to make the Marauders whole!
Currently in game, we’re in mid-March 1980. Times are dark for the Order of the Phoenix and the citizens of the magical community in general, as Voldemort and the Death Eaters seem unstoppable. You can check out our current rp-wide prompt, as well as all of our past ones, here on the Prompt Blog.
Past prompts can always be revisited if you want to explore them, either as a self-para or if you approach another player to play out a thread for it together. We do our best to make it as easy as possible for new players to settle into the game. Our players (including us admins!) are always happy to plot things out and we admins are always here to answer questions and offer help!

333.
Are you the clubbing type? >> I’ve never been to a nightclub, so I have no idea. Probably not, though. Bar goer? >> I go to bars, yes. How old are you? >> 32. Song you can’t stand? >> I rarely remember songs I don’t like off the top of my head.  Menthol or non-menthol, when it comes to it? >> When I did smoke, I preferred menthol. I like the sharp feeling.
Are you the candle lighting type? >> I don’t use candles much anymore; the fragrances they use for them are usually kind of awful to me. There are some candle types I like, though -- the ones with the wick that simulates a crackling fire, for example. Love those in winter (especially if they smell like pine or something else Christmas-y). Is your ex sexually attractive to you still? >> Most of my fondness for Phoenix was sexual in the first place, and I imagine I’d still find him attractive if I ran into him (not as much as I did, though). He’s really the only one that qualifies for this question, because I’m not sexually attracted to any of my other exes. Most of those people I was with because... they wanted me, basically, and I wasn’t completely opposed to them. Even the people I was emotionally attracted to, I wasn’t necessarily sexually attracted to. That’s not because there was something wrong with them -- they were all good-looking people -- so it’s not like that. I just... am not at all easily attracted to people in that way. Even I’m not sure how sexual attraction works for me (inworld and fantasy shit notwithstanding). What is unattractive about them? >> There were a lot of unattractive things about people I "dated”, and I’m not going to go listing it all. Your hottest exe’s name starts with the letter what? >> --- Fast food junkie are you? >> No, I rarely eat fast food anymore. Are you around a lot of people all the time? >> No. Do you have a crap load of friends to hang out with? >> No. I don’t. Not such a bad thing though. Do you know what sixlets are? >> No. Pick two highliter colors: Yellow, Pink, Blue, Purple, Orange >> I don’t even use highlighters. Coffee in the morning, yay or nay? >> I don’t drink coffee because 1) I don’t much care for it and 2) I’m pretty caffeine-sensitive so if I’m going to drink anything caffeinated it’ll probably be black tea. Do you ever drink your coffee black? >> I did when I did drink it. Finish the lyrics: I like my coffee black just like my ( blank ) >> Metal.
Body waxing, yay or nay? >> I have no opinion. I’m sure it’s very convenient. Do you have a uni-brow? >> No. Do you sometimes wish it was ok for girls to grow their pit hair? >> But... it is okay. You can make all the “but Other People don’t like it~” excuses you want, but at the end of the day it really still is your choice and your prerogative. Amsterdam vacay or Canada? >> *shrug* Honeymoon, where? >> Our extended stay in New Orleans through Halloween is going to function as a “honeymoon”. Would you rather live in a house right now or an apartment? >> I’d rather live in, like, a condo or a duplex or something. Or a house, sure, I guess. Coffee gum, yay or nay? >> That... doesn’t sound appealing to me. Do you floss your teeth everynight? >> No. Every week? >> No. Do you know how to thread off hairs? Or even know what I’m talking about? >> I know what you’re talking about, but no, I don’t know how. Did you live in the age of cassette tapes? >> I did. Coolest toy of back in the day? >> *shrug* I liked my computer and that was really it. Best brand of tea? >> I don’t know. Are you a tea freak like me? >> I like tea very much, but I’m not very knowledgeable about it. I am a mild enthusiast at best. Organic food, awesome or you really don’t g.a.f >> I believe in the concept, but... meh. Do you own a rosary? >> Yeah, a decorative one. Have you ever destroyed a bible? >> I remember we used to use Bible pages as rolling paper in a pinch. So, yes. Or a religious figure? >> What, like an icon or something? No. I generally don’t disrespect or desecrate religious items (although I suppose my sexualisation of certain things could be seen as “disrespect” depending on who you ask), the Bible-paper thing was an anomaly because of the people I was around. Do you regret it? >> I don’t regret it, I just think it was kind of stupid and Edgy(tm) in retrospect. Anal sex, yay or nay? >> Nay. It’s one of my very hard limits. Ok, sorry, why not. Blue lipstick, yay or nay? >> Yay for whoever wants to wear it. I wouldn’t, because it doesn’t suit me. Random or basic surveys? >> What is the difference? Is this question lame: “Have you had sex?” >> It’s not a lame question. And the answer is yes. I think it is. Sharpies or visa-vis? >> I use Sharpies. Sharpies or highlighters? >> Those are made for two different purposes... Sharpies or paint markers? >> Meh. Did you ever watch that show with the gnomes? It’s old. >> What show...? Have you ever watched Flight of Dragons? >> No. Can you hoola-hoop real good? >> Not real good, no. Do you like to dive into the pool? >> I can’t swim, so no, that’s not a good idea for me. Do you like to jump in or get in a non-jumpy way? >> --- FUDGE. What kind of FUDGE would you like? >> I don’t like fudge. Visit Barbados or Australia? >> Either is fine. How would like to ride to work everyday on a bike? Not a motor bike. >> --- Do you like to surf? >> I’ve never been surfing. But like I said, I can’t swim, so I’ll never go surfing anyway. Have you ever cut your own hair? >> I usually do. How did that go for you? >> It goes fine. It’s very difficult to fuck up a buzzcut, lmao. Have you ever cut your hair with kitchen scissors or craft scissors? >> No. Also, Sparrow is a licensed cosmetologist and would probably have a seizure if I did that in front of her. Not a good idea. Something gross someone has done? >> Er... Has anyone ever written on you? >> Yeah. Has anyone ever annoyingly scribbled a smiley on your schoolwork as a kid? >> I mean, teachers used to put smileys on graded classwork...? I don’t know any other circumstance where smileys would appear on my classwork. Do you like the AC blasting all the time? >> Not at all. I prefer running the AC for a little while to cool off the air, and then using fans to keep it circulating after that. Too much AC makes my sinuses act up and also just... doesn’t feel good, for me. Do you get more cold easily or more hot easily? >> I get hot very easily. Do you walk through puddles or try to avoid them? >> I try to avoid them, I hate getting water in my shoes. Even when I’m wearing rain boots I reflexively avoid puddles, lol. Do you pet a stranger’s dog or avoid them? >> I love petting strangers’ dogs, if they’re okay with it. Do you ever cross your legs while sitting down? >> No, I find that posture very uncomfortable. Always have, for some reason. Can you name something bad about crossing your legs? >> I don’t know anything bad about crossing one’s legs. I just know I can’t sit like that. I can. Do you ever sit with your legs wide open? >> Occasionally. Have you ever had to complain about your internet not working well? >> Definitely. Our internet is kind of shitty, actually, in comparison to what’s available. Hopefully we’ll change providers soon. Lipstick over the actual natural lip-line, your thoughts? >> I have no thoughts. Is the Dark Knight movie overrated? >> I don’t know if it’s overrated. I thought it was pretty interesting. Have you ever dated someone with really crooked teeth? >> No. Have you ever dated a fat person? >> No. Have you ever dated someone with a fine ass body? >> I guess.

Kallie is only a little smaller than average height for her age, she is 5’ 3”. She is on the thinner side weighing 110 lbs. She may be a bit thin but she’s fit and has a bit of strong muscle. She doesn’t eat a ton of junk and keeps active since she is on track team.
Her Hair is a light blonde and her eyes are hazel with a strong brown hue. Her hair is straight and soft, usually up in a messy bun or a ponytail. Her eyes are darker in color and she has under eye bags due to not getting enough sleep every night. Her eyelashes are of a medium thickness and length. She has 20/20 vision and has never needed visual assistance. Her eyebrows are thinner, slightly arched and about the same color as her hair.
Her skin doesn’t really have any freckles, or birthmarks, but she has a tiny dot near the left corner of her lips. She gets blemishes ever once in a while due to being a teenager, but does not use makeup to cover it up and normally doesn’t wear makeup at all. She has a thin scar of a line going from the bottom of her left ear towards her nose. Her hands and feet are smaller and thin due to being small boned. Her hands are in between soft and rough since she plays sports and sometimes works on cars, outdoor equipment, etc…
Kallie tends to wear shorts until it becomes way too cold to. She wears a lot of t-shirts, hoodies, flannels and ripped jeans. She mainly wears darker colors and more neutral tones, a lot of black, white, and gray. She rarely wears dresses, during formal occasions there’s a stronger chance of her wearing a feminine styled suit. She doesn’t care too much about her appearance and mainly focuses on comfort.

Stubborn | Sarcastic | Independent | Altruistic
Strong-willed | Outgoing | Curious | Absent Minded
Kallie can be very stubborn at times, if she does doesn’t want to do something she will or won’t, she doesn’t let peer pressure affect her too much unless it’s over something not serious that would affect her in the long run. Being strong-willed can connect to her stubbornness since when she wants to do something she will do it no matter how difficult a task or how long it takes her. She’s friendly and outgoing to most people as long as they don’t do anything to offend her, she tries to be friends with as many people as she can. Although she likes having friends, she can be by herself for a while and do things herself since she is independent and may not feel the need of another person to be present all of the time. Due to her being both curious and absent minded she can get distracted easily. Her mind will lead to something else and may throw her off task from time to time. She also tends to ask a lot of questions about unknown things due to her curiousness. Being altruistic or selfless leads her to put others before herself, if someone else needs help she is likely to put herself in danger to help them without being in ti to benefit herself.
She tends to tap on tables or her leg without realizing it along with picking at loose threads on her clothes, peeling paint on objects, or loose stickers. Picking at things tends to happen more often when she is nervous or in a stress inducing situation. When she is happy she tends to have energy and be talkative, which becomes stronger when she is excited, she’ll be more willing to socialize with someone who she may not like as much. The opposite will usually happen when she is sad or angry, she will become less energetic and less talkative, although she tries not to let a lot of negative emotions show since she doesn’t like bothering people with them or talking about her feelings. When in social situations like parties she tends to try and initiate conversation with people she doesn’t know well as long as they don’t seem to be in a sour mood or bothered by her. If it’s her friends she’ll speak to them no matter their mood and try to make them feel better.
Kallie is claustrophobic and does not like to be within small spaces that have no area to escape from, it isn’t as bad as some people have it since she is okay as long as there is a way to get out of the small space when she begins to panic. She has a slight fear of needles but it has dwindled as she has gotten older, she can’t look whenever they are used and sometimes needs a stress reliever, she won’t pass out but she will be quite anxious during the process. There’s no real cause for these fears within her past, she just has never liked small spaces or needles.

Kallie has only some visible muscles on her biceps, but she is fit and healthy. She has a flat stomach although with slightly defined abs. Overall her body is thinner since she is smaller boned and has a faster metabolism than most people. She also stays fit due to going to the gym at least once a week depending on her schedule, playing sports helps her stay fit too. She is also naturally more athletically bit due to her godly-parent. She tends to eat more snacks, but works them off.
Overall her skin is pretty clear of scarring, there are random small ones from working on things and playing outside when she was younger but she does have a thin scar of a line going from the bottom of her left ear towards her nose. She has no need for visual hearing assistance since both her eyes and ears function well.
Her immune system is pretty well and works as well as the average person, she gets sick every once in a while but due to her lifestyle being a bit healthier she tends to not catch the cold when it’s going around.
She has both Hyperactive-impulsive ADHD and Dyslexia due to being a Demi-god.ㅤ

Kallie is pretty agile but her hits don’t do as much damage as she wished they did. She doesn’t really have an algorithm with how she fights someone yet, she just does whatever seems right at the moment and doesn’t really plan her hits. She usually only fights in self defense and usually is pretty lucky about how much damage she takes in a fight. She knows the basics of self defense since she has taken a couple classes in the past.
Kallie’s main weapons are her fists, pepper spray or anything else she can grab, but she rarely uses anything lethal. Once she is taken to Camp, her main weapon will become a celestial bronze sword, which she would find she has the most confidence in using.

She is on the stronger side due to the influence of her mot. She is a bit stronger than an average person her height and weight naturally would be. She wants to gain strength so she can feel more confident in defending herself when needed.

She is aware of what’s happening around her most of the time and has natural battle instincts, although since she becomes distracted easily she can lose track of events that are happening and what she is doing. She is okay at reading people’s emotions, most of the time she can interpret how they feel, but sometimes she may be oblivious.
ᴇɴᴅᴜʀᴀɴᴄᴇ
9/10
Her endurance is pretty high since she was always taught to be tough and keep going even when it gets difficult. She’ll get right back up after being down, both emotionally and physically. She can run for a while longer than the average person, especially in the case of meeting a goal. She can endure quite a bit of pain, though she’s also stubborn enough to keep going even if its a lot. Emotionally her endurance is pretty good also.

7/10
She does very well in social situations since she is an outgoing and friendly person. She’s also pretty good at fooling people when telling a lie. Most of the time people believe what she says since she’s not one to lie about anything that would hurt anyone. She’s not much of a flirt and can be slightly awkward when it comes to romance since she doesn’t think about romance often.
ɪɴᴛᴇʟʟɪɢᴇɴᴄᴇ
6/10
She is more street smart than book smart, her lowest grade being a C in math due to the trouble she has understanding the subject. She has mainly Bs in her other classes, she tends to get As in the more hands on classes that she has as electives. Though it’s difficult to keep her grades consistent since she has moved schools quite a few times.

9/10
She is very quick and flexible and has always been. She participated in gymnastics when she was younger, leading her to be quite a bit more flexible than the average person. She is quicker too since she runs a lot and focuses on being faster when participating in track practice or a meet.

Her luck tends to be pretty good, it’s better than the average person due to her mother’s influence. When guessing she is more right than wrong most of the time, especially when guessing who’s going to win something. She does believe in luck and that 13 is her lucky number.

Kallie was born into a good environment, her family loved her and they had enough money to be comfortable. At a young age she learned about hard work since her parents didn’t give her an allowance unless she did her chores and didn’t misbehave too much, the same went for her siblings. She was a very active child, she had a lot of energy, and was always wanting to play inside or outside. She would often try and help her dad fix things around the house or in the garage. She could often be found taking clocks or random electronics apart to try and put them back together again, this led her to discover her hobby of tinkering.
In 1st grade when Kallie was 6 she was diagnosed with ADHD. She had been falling behind the other kids a little since she seemed to have attention problems. This caused her teacher to call her mother and talk about it. Soon Kallie was taken to a pediatrician and was diagnosed. Around the age of 6 she also discovered her love of videogames when she began playing games with her brothers when they let her.
She also learned the lesson of grieving and strength when she lost her mother at 8 years old. Carolina had died in a car crash due to a drunk driver, both drivers had died. It was difficult for her to lose her mother since she was very close to her and didn’t quite understand what had happened since she was younger,, but together as a family they supported each other.
Kallie joined a small dance team when she was 9 and managed to make quite a few friends on the team and school but eventually grew apart from a few as she moved on to middle school. During middle school she joined the track team and the lacrosse team. She quickly figured out she was pretty good at sports and was naturally athletic. Although she had found joy in the teams at school, she found a bit of struggle in academics due to her ADHD, especially within her math classes. She had also become a target for a few girls that would pick on her weight and grades, but her friends helped her cope with it.
Once she moved onto high school Kallie had lost a few more friends but still had multiple that she enjoyed spending time with. She also met Caleb freshman year when he moved to Minnesota from England. They quickly bonded and over the years became best friends. She had a boyfriend her sophomore year that ended in a bad breakup at the beginning of that summer. During her high school years she participated in track, swim, and lacrosse, along with the dance company she had been in for years. Being on that many teams kept her busy and also added to her struggles in school, but she didn’t really mind. The bullying continued throughout high school but gradually diminished.
After highschool Kallie moved into her own apartment and began college. She picked an engineering degree and worked at a local restaurant as a waitress. Her wage and tips were the main source of her income but sometimes she would work as a handyman within her apartment complex if the landlord didn’t come to fix something quick enough or she’d help fix people’s cars if she could.
