Uninstalling.

I'm upgrading my graphics card (and entire PC really) and I really cannot be bothered figuring out how to make TS2 work on it right now. Not that I've tried, but I haven't played for 6-ish months and as I'm sure we all know: the urge to play TS2 comes and goes over the decades.

My plan is to keep all the parts I'm replacing, with the eventual goal to one day build a dedicated TS2 computer. So until that time... this is not goodbye. I'll be back! Sometime! Look for my owl!

Okay so~

With a 250+ strong gameplay queue at now 12 posts a day (sorry!), I’m aware that maybe my game seems a little... same-y(?) to y’all - but as I’ve briefly mentioned before, and one of the main motivations for me to even post on Tumblr, is to have a directory of the sims in my game, so I know what’s going on. There’s over 20 households in Westport, the first gen2 children are nearing adulthood and I really can’t keep track of it all in my head. Not that I’m apologizing for it right now, but I just want to point out that yeah I’m aware that my gameplay is perhaps repetitive/boring/spam-y, but I enjoy playing my game the way I play it, and the documentation is pretty much only for myself. I know a lot of people condense their gameplay into one long post, and honestly in my own not-defense reading those posts is really enjoyable for me... but I need my own gameplay in one by one posts because otherwise I get the events of a family’s round confused.

If anything was going to feel like content I post for the benefit of the entertainment of others, I’d consider that to be my builds, interiors and (occasional) downloads: and I always post these in real-time, instantly and outside my queue. So there’s that.

Anecdote: I’m actually like this irl as well. I love organizing and tidying, and I’m 100% capable of (and enjoy!) repetition. If you were going to ask me how many times I’ve seen Lord of The Rings or how many times I’ve read Haruki Murakami’s Kafka On The Shore (I like it, okay?) or how many times I’ve played through the entirety of Skyrim - ask me something else.

Breaking my anonymity: personal blog

Debated for and against posting or linking this here for a while, but for the sake of full transparency (for once), I decided to just do it and finally fully bridge the gap between my Simblr anonymity and who I am IRL / elsewhere on the internet. Hopefully I won’t end up regretting it.

I decided recently to make a comeback into the world of personal blogging, which I haven’t done for lots and lots of years. I’ve always been anonymous on Tumblr (like, really harshly separated from the rest of my life and online activities), and it feels weird to suddenly be like “sup, this is who I really am” -- but I’m doing it, in an effort to maybe fortify being completely honest on my new blog.

Was the tradition from Norway to Sweden a bit hard? Did you have problems with the language?

This is incredibly random and non-sims related, but I guess I’ll answer it regardless!

I wouldn’t say it was hard as such, at the time it was the right decision. Strictly speaking I didn’t really move from Norway to Sweden either though, I moved from Norway to England when I was only just 18 and lived there until I was 21, stayed in Norway for like 3 months and then moved to Sweden (for the record I turn 25 in November this year :>). Since I haven’t really lived “at home” in Norway much for the past 7 years, the transition itself wasn’t really that hard, but as the years go by I kinda find that I’m more and more ‘patriotic’, or generally just go “omfg mah Norway <333″ at everything that relates to Norway, and I miss a ridiculous a lot of things you just kinda take for granted there (I think I may have mentioned this before, but seriously powdered soup and frozen pizzas mfw :<) and then of course I miss my friends and family, since I don’t get to see them more than maybe once a year. It gets worse as I get older. :/

As for Sweden specifically, Norway and Sweden are relatively similar in most respects, so “culturally” (or whatever...?) I wouldn’t really say it was a huge deal. I have no trouble understanding Swedish - though I did realize after living here a while that there were a lot of everyday words I literally had no idea about (like “fika”, I was embarrassed when I finally had to give in and ask what it actually meant, people just kept saying it all the time!). Generally I think Swedish people have a harder time understanding me than I do understanding them... I still don’t really speak ‘fluent’ Swedish, to begin with I just altered my Norwegian dialect from a northern dialect to a common southern one (I answered an ask about my Norwegian dialect-ness before here, in case you’re interested!), and then just gradually started picking up words that are widely different between Norwegian and Swedish, so I kinda speak a weird hybrid Swedish mixed with Norwegian (Swegian? Norwish?)... it’s rare that people don’t understand me, and usually I just get hit with “Hey, are you from Norway? You sound slightly Norwegian...” a lot :p And when I say ‘a lot’ I mean basically every single person I meet... it is then followed by a chit-chat conversation about how beautiful Norway is and how uncommon it is for Norwegians to move to Sweden rather than the other way around and/or how the person I’m talking to once knew someone who knew someone who had a nephew with a dog that they adopted from someone who’s sister once visited Norway, and they said it was great. So yeah. That pretty much sums it up, I guess!

No simming for a bit :(

My graphics cards have finally decided to die on me (RIP in pepperoni), so I'll be gone from simming until I can decide if I want to buy new cards or a whole new computer, and depending on what I go with... well, it might be a few weeks and it might be a few months... or less! Or more! Who knows! Time will tell!

I'll still be lurking around like I always do, but there won't be any new posts. :(  (and don't worry, I have backups of all the things!)

How different is your dialect from standard Norwegian? What are the main differences and can standard Norwegian speakers understand you fine or are there problems? :D

It’s quite different, even though all the words are more or less the same, if that makes sense. :p Since everyone’s all about translating words to native languages on my dash right now, I’ll give some examples.

The words are “who, what, where, why, how”and “I, me, you, you (plural)” in English:

standard - dialecthvem ——— kæmhva ———— kahvor ———- korhvorfor —- kofførhvordan — kordan (korsn)

(Swedish versions: vem, vad, var, varför, hur)

jeg ————- æmeg ———- mædeg ———— dædere ———- dåkker

(Swedish versions: jag, mig, dig, ni)

Most of the difference lies in harsher sounds and more use of the Norwegian letters (Æ, Ø and Å). If you compare the standard Norwegian to the Swedish versions, you’ll see that standard Norwegian is much more similar to Swedish and that the dialect actually seems like the separate language… don’t ask me how this works out in reality, welcome to Scandinavia.

Some other random words that are more similar but somehow end up sounding very different to each other is for example “not”, as in “that’s not what I mean” - in standard Norwegian it’s “ikke” and in my dialect (and many others, it’s quite common with this word) we add a J and make it “ikkje”; and it becomes even worse in the same sentence: “det er ikke det jeg mener” in standard Norwegian becomes “det e’kje det æ meine” in my dialect - so we also tend to pull words together… a lot. All the time. Way too much:"går ikke", "gjør ikke", "tar ikke", "skal ikke""gå’kje", "gjø’kje", "ta’kje", "ska’kje".(in English these are ‘doesn’t work (or go)’, ‘doesn’t do’, ‘doesn’t take’, ‘isn’t going to’… I hope you’re still keeping up, anon!)I suppose it’s worth noting that some southern accents do that as well with “ikke” in the same context only without the added J, but the difference is that in my dialect the “kje” sound becomes “ch-e”, and without it it’s just “-ke”… so, same same but different~

I’ve never met anyone fluent in Norwegian that hasn’t understood my dialect in speaking, and don’t ask me how this works out in a country with this many different dialects - because there isn’t just north, south, east, west; you can be in the town I’m from in the north and people will speak my dialect, then head two hours south and they’ll speak just different enough for it to count as a different northern dialect… and it’s like that all over Norway and it can be quite extreme. If you generalize most people will say we have southern, south-eastern, western, midlands and northern dialects as the “major groups”, but they can still be very different within those groups. But yeah, like I said: never met a fluent Norwegian speaker that hasn’t understood me (or any other dialect), it just sort of… works… the closest I guess you’d get to not understanding each other are extremely local words or extremely thick accents, but most people just ‘know’ not to use those when speaking to someone from a different part of Norway and/or to soften up their accents slightly or speak very clearly.

To a non-native speaker, I guess they might sound very different though: for example, in the north we tend to speak with a tone much more like English - very flat and monotone. Someone from the south (and Swedish people, for the record!) speak with a much more up-and-down tone and they sound much more “up-beat” when speaking - which is also why they get funnier accents when they speak English, see this for an example. :z Although to be fair that guy is famous for having quite a bad accent, at least it gets the point across… :p

Where do you like it better: Norway or Sweden?

Norway~! I mean, Sweden’s nice and all, but it’s been so long since I lived in Norway (I moved to the UK when I was 18 and then pretty much straight from there to Sweden - I’m 24 this year, that’s over 6 years!) and just the subtle differences even between neighboring countries that you otherwise don’t really notice when you visit them rather than live there get really annoying after a while. Mostly related to food, lol; someone needs to teach Sweden about proper soup-in-powder-form-that-you-mix-with-water. And also about instant noodles. And frozen pizzas. And fish, oh my lord these Swedes know nothing about fish. So yeah, haha. I’m a food patriot~Language is also sort of awkward in Sweden since I’m not fluent in Swedish and speak a weird hybrid-Swedish-and-southern-Norwegian which most people understand fine, but every so often I’ll approach someone and they’ll look at me like I just grew four extra limbs because “holy crap, what language is that, it isn’t Swedish and I am now feeling very uncomfortable”… I’m from the north of Norway originally and our dialect is very different (and completely incomprehensible to Swedish people) from ‘standard’ Norwegian, and I never get to speak in my dialect anymore so I’m also turning into a language patriot… As you can see, the struggle is real. #firstworldproblems :p

And yet, my SO being Swedish and therefore being the reason I am here seems to outweigh all of that. :’)

I have this impossible Uberhood-dream...

It's been a busy IRL week with my parents visiting from Norway, so I've been playing hostess - squeezing in some simming-time this Friday afternoon while they pack up to leave tomorrow morning, and I have this really annoying, impossible, stupid, won't-ever-be-fulfilled idea about my Uberhood that won't let go of my brain....:

what if I could make over every single premade lot (residential and community, occupied and unoccupied, 'hood-placed and lot bin), make over every single premade sim (true-ish to their bios / personalities) and then play my Uberhood** the same way I play(ed) Apple Springs and Westport? Like a massive, full neighborhood "legacy" with rotations and heirs and awesomeness?

** for those of you unfamiliar with an Uberhood - it is every single EAxis premade neighborhood in one; i.e. you can have Pleasantview as a main hood and then the rest (Veronaville, Belladonna Cove etc) as shopping districts with OFB + downtown and vacation hoods.

I really do want to, but it will probably always be an impossible dream...

*goes back to doing student makeovers* ...baby steps. :)

Me trying to build a public beach community lot and realizing I have no idea what I'm supposed to put there...

This is all my significant other has been getting the past hour or so...

"Is this beach-like?"

"What kind of walls would you put on a beach restaurant?"

"Do you HAVE to have showers available on a public beach?"
