Preliminary Considerations - Which Vocal Synthesizer Software is Right for You? - Free Softwares
Although this blog puts a major emphasis on the VOCALOID 4 editor, it, or VOCALOID in general, is not the only vocal synthesizer that exists. There are tons of other software that have the same function and a variety of different voicebanks, with some being cheaper and of higher quality than VOCALOID, or even free! That’s right, there are quite a few free vocal synthesizers out there (however the lack of frills may come at the expense of some missing features or difficulty of usage), which I recommend trying out before pouring your hard-earned savings on a program that you may not even use. What if you learn that you do not enjoy tuning or do not have the time to use the software? It would be a huge waste of money that could be invested in other stuff, such as basic necessities (GOOD FOOD) or other leisurely items, like video games, clothing from your favourite bands, art supplies, or merchandise. In addition, there has been a rise of a lot of smaller companies coming out with vocal synthesizers with incredible UIs that not only look appealing but are easy to navigate, and voicebanks that sound far too human and advanced than hATsUnE mIKU (don’t worry, I love Miku with all my heart, I am just trying to prove a point here). There are also some really sick features that you may not find in the franchises with bigger names.
In this post, I will be describing the features of different free vocal synthesizers and their advantages and disadvantages so you can find the one that meets your vocalo-p needs. Please note, I do not own all of these synthesizers, some of these are from reviews on Reddit and VocaVerse Network. In addition, some cons like lag could just be a me problem and better computers may not experience such issues. Also , I will not be covering every single singing synthesizer in existence, just the well known ones and those with proper UIs because there are so many. I am omitting NEUTRINO because it does not have a UI despite having such high-quality vocals, along with ALTER/EGO, as it does not have a piano roll.
UTAU
Tumblr media
(Song: Meltdown by iroha(sasaki); UST: Tanjiro Taidana)
UTAU was designed to be the free sister software to VOCALOID. Not only can you use it without spending a cent, but it allows you to make your own voicebank as well! There are tons of popular voicebanks out there, including the Vipperloids, Gahata Meiji, Kohaku Merry, Matsudappoiyo, Denatsu Sora, Shuu Mawaine, and my personal favourite, SUZU.
Pros:
Almost every single voicebank is free to download
Different types of voicebanks (CV, VCV, CCVC; Monopitch vs. Multipitch; Power, Weak, Soft, Whisper, Growl, Screamo; tons of languages)
Can make your own voicebank right in the software
Pitch bending on the piano roll instead of a parameter box!
Variety of job plugins to make usage easier
Credited for its growl and vibrato handling
Cons:
EXTREMELY dated, UTAU has not been updated since 2013
Not friendly for beginners, especially due to its old UI
Need to change your system's locale, and installing voicebanks can be frustrating
Most voicebanks (namely Japanese) can only read Hiragana phonemes and not Romaji ones; but job plug-ins can fix this issue
youtube
Open Utau
Tumblr media
(Song: The Lost One's Weeping by neru; UST: Tanjiro Taidana)
If UTAU is the sister software to VOCALOID, then Open Utau is the younger sibling to normal UTAU. Open Utau is an open-sourced vocal synthesizer on GitHub with every feature in the original software while being easier to use.
Pros:
Dark mode with a sleek, easy-to-navigate UI!
Pitchbend with a click of a button; piano roll tuning is still consistent
Splice tool; useful for note-bending
No need to switch locale to Japanese
Easier to get the hang of
Frequent updates
Can use VSQXs and svps. without needing to convert them into USTs
Cons:
No Defoko…
Choppier and buggier than classic UTAU
Slow with rendering wav. files and launching the software
Phonemizers are tricky to work with, you don’t always get the same output as the same phonemizers in normal UTAU
External resamplers can cause overheating and slow down the software
Tuning is more dependent on job plugins than the original UTAU
Many users claim that otoing is easier in classic UTAU
youtube
SynthesizerV Studio Editor R1
Tumblr media
(Song: Tengaku by Yuuyu; VSQx by Adam Edmond)
This preliminary edition of SynthesizerV was a major breakthrough for the vocal synth community when it was first released. With its realistic-sounding voicebanks and minimalistic aesthetic, this software has changed the game by a landslide for synth users. Although it's quite limited, R1 was an amazing start for what will become a godly program in the future. Pros:
Pitch bending on the piano roll and in the parameter box (very smooth, I experienced no lag when using it nor did I have to make pitch points or pause while editing the parameters)!
Voicebanks sound quite human
MIND BLOWING GLOTTAL EFFECTS (nine different growls, two screams, and a vocal fry that do not sound robotic!)!
Really simple UI, easy to pick up, great for beginners!
Cons:
Outdated; is no longer being updated by Dreamtonics
Needs a recording license for commercial use (though I highly doubt it is still being upheld)
Only four voicebanks are available; Eleanor Forte, Yamine Renri, GENBU, and AiKO - who is paid and an outdated version of her R2 voicebank (R2 versions of the same voicebanks sound much cleaner and realistic)
A little too minimalistic; aside from the addition of glottal effects and the typical pitch deviation, loudness, tension, breathiness, voicing, gender, and vibrato parameters, there is not all that much you can do in this edition of the editor
youtube
SynthesizerV Studio Basic
Tumblr media
(Song: Antibeat by Deco* 27; UST: Mayu Sama Desu)
Also known as SynthV R2, this is the free edition of the software that is currently being updated, despite having fewer features than its complete, paid version.
Pros:
Ready to play with as soon as it is installed
Twenty-five free voicebanks; sixteen Japanese, seven English, and two Chinese; all with unique sounds
AI voicebanks!
Instant mode; allows you to automatically tune the pitch of an entire track with the press of a button, although it may make the voice sound too pitchy
Waveform that allows you to see the volume and pronunciation of certain notes
Can use paid voicebanks in the free editor!
Just as easy to figure out as SynthV R1!
Cons:
Can only have a maximum of three vocal tracks in a single svp. file
Pitch bending is a lot more finicky compared to SynthV R1
Lite voicebanks sound mono-pitch
Lacks a ton of features that are available in SynthesizerV Pro; scripts, auto-pitch tuning, rap vocals, cross-lingual synthesis, vocal modes, alternate phoneme choices, and many other features are not included in the basic edition (even paid voicebanks can not use cross-lingual synthesis, vocal modes, etc)
The glottal effects parameter that was in SynthV R1 is sadly not included in both the Basic and Pro editions of the current program
youtube
VoiSona
Tumblr media
(Song: iNSaNiTY by Circus-P; VSQX: Cirty_09)
Previously named “CeVIO Pro”, VoiSona is a vocal synth that uses AI technology to create beautiful vocals with characters that originated from a variety of other vocal synthesizers (such as VOCALOID!) and are created with the recordings of talented singers and voice actors. CeVIO project has also launched a trial speech vocal synthesizer called “VoiSona Talk” for their first anniversary.
Pros:
Users get Chis-A’s full voicebank upon downloading the synthesizer!
The program itself is entirely free to download
AI technology makes tuning easier
Piano roll pitch-bending
Has some features that are missing in its sister software, CeVIO AI
The “husky” parameter is great for making whispers
Can be used as a VST plugin in most DAWs or a standalone editor
Cons:
All other voicebanks are paid; either you purchase the entire voicebank once, or get a subscription to use all of them
HEAVY LAG; the program is quite slow with processing commands
Free-hand pitch-bending is not as easy to perform compared to UTAU or SynthesizerV; can be quite sensitve and the AI may not always yield the desired result
youtube
DeepVocal
Tumblr media
(Song: New Darling by MARETU; UST: Mimisan15)
The successor to the Sharpkey Galaxy software, this vocal synthesizer was designed for Chinese voicebanks. Its UI is a combination of VOCALOID4 and UTAU, giving it a sense of comfort and familiarity. Speaking of which, you can create your own voicebank in DeepVocal as you can in UTAU and OpenUtau, and there are some pre-made voicebanks of popular UTAUs, including Namine Ritsu, Inari Akane, and Kuro Bousuka. In addition, there is also a Kiana voicebank commissioned by MiHOYO and based on the protagonist of Gun Girls Z and Honkai Impact 3rd!
Pros:
Ready to use as soon as its out of the box
Great engine for Chinese voicebanks
Can create your own voicebank
Runs smoothly
Has all of the necessary parameters needed to create songs and covers
Cons:
Voicebanks can be kind of shaky, choppy, and more sensitive to pitch changes compared to other engines like UTAU and VOCALOID
Pitch bending can be quite clunky
Voicebanks may have difficulty reading certain phenomes from converted USTs; you may need to edit them if you don’t want lyrics being read as “a” or “ra”
youtube
These were all of the major free softwares I found, but if I come across another vocal synthesizer in the future, even if it is not talked about in the vocal synth community much, I may make a post about it.
I know there are a ton of cons I found for much of the vocal synths on this list and they sound like nitpicks on my part, but as I stated at the start of this post, some of these issues could be a Shimmer Thing™ and they may not arise for you when using these softwares. I won't be surprised if you read through this post and are now feeling thrown off by the various features and pros and cons of these programs, so here's my two cents on what I think beginners should go for:
If you like realistic voicebanks and want a very simple software to start with, get either SynthesizerV Editot (R1) or SynthesizerV Studio Basic (R2). If you would like to experience them (spicy) glottal effects and very kind pitchbending (like it does not make you want to bash your head against the wall because Renri won't cooperate) along with unlimited vocal tracks, then try out R1, and if you want more features, voicebanks, and continous updates, go for R2. Or even better, try out both and decide which one suits your interests better.
If you have a preference for robotic voicebanks, would like a variety of vocals to play with, and find plug-ins interesting, then UTAU may be for you, especially if you want VOCALOID but you can not afford it at the moment. Although I shitted more on Open Utau than I did on regular UTAU, I recommend the former over the latter as it is still being updated and the UI is signifcantly easier to navigate, along with its phenomenal pitchbending function.
Finally, please take my words with a grain of salt. If you like the voicebanks or are interested in a specific software, or discover one that is even better than any of the listed vocal synthesizers, by all means, go for it! This is just a surface guide by an idiot who spends most of their time trying to make Fukase not sound like a computer dying, and I have not used any of these softwares as much as I have messed with VOCALOID. Plus, my computer is an absolute bitch, so you guys will probably have much better luck than me.
I hope this guide was of use and provided a better insight on the various engines out there. My next post will compare different paid vocal synthesizers, including CeVIO AI, Piapro Studio, and of course, the various VOCALOID softwares. Don't worry, I'll get to the actual tutorial bit very soon.
Also, feel free to ask any questions about vocal synthesizers, or... literally anything! I'm practically starved for asks-
Thanks for reading!

happy birthday to Asumi Ririse(voicepeak), Kanade Minato(voidol), and crimmzoh(voidol) !!!! [29 aug]
Tumblr media
ririse (voicepeak)
Tumblr media
minato
Tumblr media
crimmzoh
Asumi Ririse is a japanese synth created by AH-Software. she was first released in pitagoe on 29 sep 2021, then on voicepeak on 13 jan 2023. shes voiced by Motomiya Kana, and illustrated by shiromikan. ririse is 16yo, and her character birthday is 29 aug. she is Asumi Shuo's older sister.
Kanade Minato is a japanese voice developed by CRIMSON TECHNOLOGY, i think ? i say this because hes a default voice on voidol, and that was developed by CRIMSON TECHNOLOGY. also im not sure if i should count his release as today, 29th, or tomorrow, 30th; on vocadb Otomiya Iroha (another default voidol voice) has her release listed as the 29th, so i just assumed minato's's the same, however vocadb has his release dated as the 30th. i feel like this could just be a matter of looking at them from different time zones but im honestly not sure. also a post on vocaverse by uncreepy about voidol only mentions crimmzoh and otomiya iroha as default voices, but the vocalsynth wiki lists minato as a default voice too, so idk how and what is being considered differently there. i have all the same confusion for crimmzoh expect they dont have a vocadb page so im guessing even more. i dont know who voiced or illustrated minato, so if you do ples tell me i beg, i know Muratubaki Reiko voiced crimmzoh though. crimmzoh is an alien from Crim Planet (both probably named after crimson technology), who likes to hum and float.
another day of the whole post being "please i literally have no idea about anything someone help me" anskaslkdj. no but the language barrier is awful, especially for double checking things the wikis say and for synths with no wiki entries. i wish companies would make all the information ever easily accessible i need to know

The data for VOCALOID5 includes a list of VOCALOID icons for voicebanks that can be used in the editor. For an unknown reason, this includes Zhanyin Lorra, despite her having been confirmed canceled as of 2016. She is still labeled as VOCALOID3, and there is no evidence to support that her release could be picked up again. No other unreleased or private vocals are listed.

Edit 2/12/23: I returned to the vocal synth fandom, I missed the programs, I missed my forum squad, and I missed the characters and music. And basically the tldr of this rant: I'm a temperamental artist who goes through waves like Miyazaki himself.
I'm leaving the vocal synth fandom, I can't do it anymore. I'm done being a YouTuber and I've had it with liking this or hating that just to impress some people. But it's not over for using vocal synths at all. I still want to do music and I still want to keep using vocal synths, so I will continue to make vocal synth originals away from the fandom, make instrumental stuff, and I'm interested in singing some of my songs myself. Additionally, I really want to finish Deci Mal VCCV and I'm excited to get the Solaria and Asterian's boxes.
So what has changed: I'm not deactivating anything now, but I may deactivate my forum accounts in the future. My YouTube channels stay but I'm leaving them to dry. Finally, I have discontinued public distribution of Deci Mal, she is now a private Utau again. I can't control what people do with my Utau, so it's up to whoever downloaded her to decide her future in the fandom space, but not her future in total. Her future in total is that I will continue to use her prominently. She's the mascot of my music and she's as important to me as Psya. I'll just need to engage with the fandom one more time to contact PaintedCz on using her commercially since I'm using their voicebank format and they want to be notified. I will respect this condition.
One question I have is if or when I will upload music again. If I decide to upload again, chances are I'll start a Soundcloud or turn back off comments on YouTube.
Now that the most important stuff is out of the way, I will use the remainder of this post to explain why I left the vocal synth fandom and commenting on the ethics of vocal synths in general.
Why I left
There are several reasons that I have come to this decision, some can be explained much more simply than others:
-I spent all of 2022 without a real, committed break that lasted over a week. That's not healthy for any fandom or interest. If leaving the fandom is the only way I can take a true break, that's fine by me.
-I experienced burnout or the possibility of burnout so many times and I forced myself to do something in vocal synths anyway to beat it. This isn't healthy either.
-The final straw was when I posted Time to Unwind. I already didn't feel happiness or satisfaction when it was done because I had just fought myself over the idea that I shouldn't use SynthVs in original songs, but then finding that it got barely any attention made me feel worthless.
-Related to the previous point, I was also going through a bad anxiety attack for the last week of December and while that was not the cause or the only fuel, it was a factor in my fear.
And then there's SynthV, which warrants its own section
Synthesizer V and the ethics of vocal synths
My problems with SynthV and the SynthV fandom
-Dreamtonics's samey-ness in their letter series eventually made it hard to feel anything about new releases. Last Christmas they announced a male rock voice and I literally didn't give a shit. I'm so sick of that cycle and if I don't leave now, it's gonna get worse in 2023.
-Until today, I lurked on SynthV Twitter to find news and gossip. Instead, I find psychos who are overly anal about SynthV being the superior vocal synth and want to see it enter the mainstream, especially the one with a creepy obsession with a stick figure. It's not pretty when you dislike the stick figure with that person in the room.
-Vocaverse Network goes through waves of hating SynthV and hyping SynthV. It's extremely exhausting. It also contains members who want to see it become mainstream.
My biggest concern with SynthV lately is the fear of it going mainstream because the voices are realistic. While the SynthV fandom was excited about that plane company using Solaria, I felt a sense of dread.
My problems with the idea of SynthV going mainstream are:
-More people in the fandom, more problems in the fandom
-Technology has a history of making things obsolete. Computers are more popular than typewriters, email is more popular than real letters, executives in the animation industry killed 2D animation's place in the mainstream to replace it with 3D animation. I just hope I can trust people to not let AI generated paragraphs succeed.
-So, it's true that human singers are bound by labels and corporations, but what would it say about the music industry if the singers weren't people anymore? Instead of people bound by companies, you have products bound by companies, and then what are the people gonna do? Voice the product? That's still so much less human singing than singing all those songs for real.
-And adding to the previous point if I may, for those who want a SynthV monopoly on vocal synths: if it's not okay for Yamaha to have a monopoly with Vocaloid, it shouldn't be okay to encourage Dreamtonics to monopolize the vocal synth industry with SynthV.
-And for those who do want SynthV mainstream, they act like their way of life is morally superior, but just because you're doing something, doesn't mean it's right. While SynthV is a much better compromise to the AI revolution than AI art using people's art without consent or compensation, it doesn't mean that SynthV is not a risk to the music industry as illustrated in my previous points.
-And for the argument that SynthV is better for the environment, I wouldn't be positively sure about that. For instance, does anyone know what is powering the equipment and technology required to create voice databases? For all we know, it's like saying Disney is good for the environment when their movies require a stupid amount of processing power to make. Ultimately, the first world way of life requires other people to suffer, and if you don't want anyone to suffer, you must be willing to sacrifice and suffer yourself.
Well, if SynthV's so bad, what about other vocal synths.
First, the case with Vocaloid: Vocaloid was at first the most unethical vocal synth because it was outright designed to replace humans. Hatsune Miku turned it into the doujin circle and started the movement to make it its own genre/alternative music scene instead. Basically, even if one day technology takes over the world, I see Hatsune Miku as an ally to humans willing to coexist with us.
CeVIO: Continues the doujin scene that Vocaloid abandoned.
Utau: Was designed with doujin Vocaloid in mind if you want to join but aren't rich. It is actually the most ethical vocal synth because it puts vocal synths in the hands of the people instead of corporations (one problem I have with the Vocaloid fandom is that they take Yamaha way too lightly...). This makes DeepVocal good too.
Conclusion
Let me make myself clear that as much as I ranted about SynthV, I'm not against the use of it. It does something truly amazing with technology and I have fun using it. I just fear its misuse.
If you read this entire thing, thank you for your time. I will finish this post with this closing statement:
SuperStarXD is dead
PearlStarLight5 has fled
And I will live

I was surfing through Vocaloid nostalgia and very suddenly remembered these heckers, so I decided I wanted to draw them.
Also...
Tumblr media
So yeah. I have a Vocaverse and I’ve been extremely into it as of late, headcanons below the cut.
So, the Vocaverse is a lot of things but, right now, let’s just talk about Shions.
Kaito is the second-oldest of five, his siblings being Akaito, Taito, Nigaito, and Kikaito. They all lived together up until Kaito became a Vocaloid, he moved out, and it was just the other four left together. Even so, Kaito’s brothers are all fiercely supportive of him and are down to do whatever they can to help him out.
Akaito is the oldest and is pretty much the leader of the family. He’s an incurable flirt and a rowdy prankster at heart, but he’s got a good head on his shoulders and knows exactly how to take care of his brothers. He loves habanero peppers and pretty much anything spicy.
Taito is the stoic middle sibling and has...strange hobbies, to say the least. Nonetheless, despite his cold attitude and general creepiness, he’s not a bad guy. In fact, he actually has a soft heart deep down...really deep down. He has outright stated he’d, without hesitation, kill anyone that tried to hurt his brothers.
Nigaito is often mistaken for being the youngest due to his stature, but he’s actually only the second-youngest. He’s extremely prone to illness and his diminutive height is related to his weak immune system. Nonetheless, he likes baking, making tea, and writing poetry. He’s generally shy and quiet, but his poetry shows off a secret cynical attitude that he rarely shows in public.
Kikaito is the youngest of the Shion siblings. He was born deformed and was given three robotic limbs (an arm and two legs) to compensate for it. Despite this, Kikaito is a cheerful optimist and there’s close to nothing that can bring his mood down. Ever since Kaito became a Vocaloid, Kikaito has wanted to become one as well, but his applications keep getting rejected. For his birthday, Kaito got him a scarf he had made especially for Kikaito: a genuine piece of Vocaloid apparel. Kikaito’s worn it every day since.
As for Kaito, he’s a timid wallflower with a big heart and probably one of the sweetest people in existence. He also seems to run into WAY more bad luck than one life should ever allow and it always seems like life is throwing another mishap Kaito’s way just to mess with him. Nonetheless, Kaito perseveres, noting the support of his friends and brothers as the fuel that keeps him going. He’s supernaturally good at getting into roles for performances and whatnot and the way he can slip into a character that acts so different from himself often terrifies those that witness it for the first time.
There’s more to the Shion brothers than just this, but that would be getting into plot spoiler territory (because yes there is a plot and it is very elaborate). Also, for anyone wondering where the rest of the Shions are, I decided to only choose the most popular ones (aka the ones i liked best heh oops), so rip Mokaito, Baito, Daito, and whatever those other ones are. (I imagined once that Mokaito is, like, that weird cousin that just kind of exists that works in a coffee shop somewhere or something, so you could probably interpolate something similar for the others, if you so wished, I suppose)
ALTHOUGH, Zeito and Kageito DO exist in this Vocaverse, though they are not actually Shion siblings. What are they? Well, you’ll just have to wait to find out~.

ok so mystery of the century here. I thought i was going crazy but I absolutely was not. let me lay this out in the easiest way to follow and yall tell me if you have any idea what the FUCK is going on:
I make a midi file in cubase that goes along with the vocals of a song
I import this midi file into Vocaloid2 AND Vocaloid4 with no problems
The PIT parameter on both the Vocaloid2 & Vocaloid4 files is set exactly to zero, as it should be. Additionally, I pitch rendered it in V4 and it showed everything was exactly on pitch.
I export the V2 and the V4 files as .wavs
When I play these .wavs with the instrumental, they sound off-key
I import .wavs into a pitch visualizer software.
Pitch visualizer software shows that both .wavs are indeed not on key, and instead are shifted down a half-note (e.g, between/in the middle of two pitches)
In order to check that the pitch visualization software is accurate, I import a .wav of a piano playing the musical scale since I know this will not be off
The pitch vizualization software shows that the piano .wav is correctly on-pitch.
Again, to check, I import another .wav of some vocaloid vocals I did for another song. Pitch visualization shows that this .wav is also correct.\

Full English title:  【Ginsaki Yamato & Kinzaki Koharu】The Wolf That Fell In Love With Little Red Riding Hood【CeVIO Cover】
Japanese title:  【吟咲 大和 & 金咲 小春】おおかみは赤ずきんに恋をした【CeVIO カバー】
I thought I would make a cover with Ginsaki Yamato and Kinzaki Koharu. Since the CeVIO Color Voice series is no longer going to be sold anymore after January 14th, 2021, I bought them recently.
UST by Lucifer. Music and lyrics by Hitoshizuku-P and Yama△. I did the tuning and mixing of the vocals for this cover.
Please note that this is the first cover I’ve ever made. If you have any constructive feedback so I can improve my covers in the future, I would like to hear it.
I will post all my covers to YouTube, Nico Video, Soundcloud, VocaVerse Network, Twitter, and Tumblr, so feel free to follow and listen where ever you enjoy it most. Links are in the notes.

Oo new-ish mutual!! We've never spoken but you seem like a rlly nice person!
We've got a bunch of interests in common, notably Undertale and Vocaloid, which makes me think you have Taste!! (speaking of that, Vocaverse sounds really interesting!!!! No pressure at all but I'd love to hear/see more about it!!)

do you think you could dig up anything on the allegedly leaked vocaloid4 voicebank "vivi"? the boxart photo i saw had zero g on it and she looks extremely similar to anri for synth v, but i haven't been able to find an actual source or any other information on her.
i know about vivi! i don't know all the details, though, just that she was allegedly a trilingual vocaloid4 voicebank from an independent developer. i didn't realize her similarity to anri until you brought it up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(image + screenshot from vocaverse network)
it doesn't look like anything's been confirmed, but considering this and that anri's team apparently has/had intentions to develop a japanese voicebank for her (i'm not sure if that's changed since the cross-lingual synthesis update in synthv) it's very possible that anri is the final version of vivi.
more talk about this below!
there doesn't seem to be much public information about vivi and her fate. i do think the japanese vivi voicebank was real and leaked though, i noticed it when i stumbled across a list of vocaloid torrent download links. i don't like torrenting vocaloids anyway so i don't have any desire to download it and see if it's real, plus i don't remember exactly where i saw it anyway.
edit (like 2 minutes later) ok actually that link to torrent her voice data is one of the first things that comes up when you search "vivi vocaloid4." the page is in spanish though. i don't have time atm to try and decipher a google translation and also i don't want to link directly to the vocaloid torrent site on this blog
edit 2 (about previous version of this post): i was wrong about the alternate vivi design!! i think it's just a vocaverse mascot, that someone used for a cover using vivi's leaked jpn bank. it wasn't a demo. i'm very sorry for my confusion!!
the leaked voicebank apparently is not complete and has broken phonemes. it also cannot be opened in the normal vocaloid4 editor. here's a google translation of what the torrent site says:
"Three versions of the voice were included in the voice leak (BETA 1, BETA 2, FINAL). However, only the version called "FINAL" is included in this package.
Although it is called "Final", it is clearly not finished. Expect to find errors and broken phonemes.
To change singer settings (such as BRI/BRE/GEN), you need to edit the "DB_Dev.ini" file manually.
It can only be run from "VOCALOID4_Dev.exe" included. "VOCALOID4.exe" will not open this voice.
The voice has no compression and includes redundant files, so it is oversized (6GB once installed)."
i also found this photo (shared on vocaloid amino) of boxed versions of her voicebank, english and japanese. they both use the anri lookalike design.
Tumblr media
it's speculated that vivi was made with an unauthorized vocaloid dev kit, which is supported by the fact that 1. yamaha was not approached with the idea of vivi, and said vivi wasn't a real vocaloid when they were asked and 2. most (if not all) of the development news came from someone's personal twitter account that they used for fandom stuff (purinxpop). (the current account with that handle is empty and privated, so i'd assume it was deactivated.)
this also led people to think she was a hoax, however, from what i can tell, someone from powerfx (or maybe zero-g since they were meant to distribute her. but i remember it being powerfx) confirmed she was real, so there must've been some level of legitimacy to her production, i think.
most of what i can find online is just speculation, though. if anyone has any more info, let me know!
