Light Projections in the Red War
So I've been doing a bit of a deep-dive into the Red War Campaign for a fic over the last few months (ah how I miss her) and something occurred to me when I considered the Light and the Darkness and how they've both been portrayed and defined in the last few years. Now, D2 the Red War came out in like 2017, so maybe this is a case of a lack of planning and forethought, but if Bungie has shown us anything in the past few years of story content, it's that they really plan ahead, so I don't feel like that's it.
As a part of the initial D2 content, there was a series of missions for players to unlock their extra subclasses, for Warlocks you could do missions for Voidwalker and Stormcaller, for Titans it was Striker and Sunbreaker, for Hunters Gunslinger and Nightstalker (maybe they haven't gotten rid of these, it's been a long time since I've unlocked a subclass). On all of these quests, you'd go through the EDZ and towards the Shard of the Traveler and along the way you'd encounter a set of what Ghost called "Light projections," figures of either Guardians that used (or still do/at the time still did) wield the subclass you're trying to get, or are enemies that were defeated by Guardians that wield the subclass you're getting. They tell stories about themselves, or sometimes others tell you stories about Guardians that used the subclass you're getting, but they each are supposed to have some kind of lesson in them.
Tumblr media
What gets me about this, though, is that these projections seem to go against everything we know about Light and Darkness from content like The Witch Queen. The Light is not a physical entity, that's fine, these projections seem to be manifestations of Light, we might be able to hear them, but they don't seem to exist per se or have any tangible mass. But, what's off about them is the fact that they're there at all. The Light, as we know it, makes a point to forget things. When Guardians are revived, they can't remember their past lives, their strength seems to come raw power, and maybe a few guns that get passed down, but nothing like this.
The Darkness, on the other hand, is grounded in memory, and things tangible. In Witch Queen we remade and restored objects using the Darkness, manipulating time itself. In Lightfall, we found the strings that tie the universe together and manipulated those. These projections then, feel a lot like the Darkness from Witch Queen, memories of Guardians past.
One theory could be that all of this takes place in a spot called the Dark Forest, emphasis on Dark. You move through the space, to the shard of the Traveler through a series of Taken portals, which seem to be pretty linked with Hive Darkness. Since the shard of the traveler is calling you to it, a question then arises, is the Shard making the portals appear? Does it have power over this Darkness? If that's the case, then maybe it's using Darkness to manifest these projections, but how does that work, because how can Light control Darkness? Not to mention, these projections, at least visually, seem to be built out of Light, not Darkness, aesthetically linked with all the depictions of Light we've seen at least in this campaign.
So, I don't get it. Maybe because this place is a meeting point of Light and Darkness it's just weird, but I'm having a very hard time making sense of these projections considering the context we've gotten over the past few years. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on it!

Ikora Rey, the Stormcaller?
Okay, so shout-out to Destiny Lore Vault on YouTube for uploading videos on Osiris' Interpretation. They are from the Lightfall campaign. I'm not sure if you get them from completing the last mission, but that is when I listened to them all. If you haven't listened to them, basically they are the five elements we can now use in containers around Osiris in the Hall of Heroes and he briefly explains a bit about each. It's a nice touch for New Lights or returning players, as it describes what Void, Solar, Arc, and Stasis are. Osiris also explains his current understanding of Strand as the fifth.
(TLDR at the end!)
Here is the dialogue from each of them:
Strand is our newest foray into Darkness. As I understand it now, it is the elemental manifestation of psychic connection. All minds are connected in a web of consciousness, which we can now see and feel. To wield Strand is to pull on the hidden connecting threads, and to use them to create, manipulate, and unravel. I had assumed this element would behave similar to our other Darkness ability. But unlike Stasis, mastering Strand seems to require one to relinquish control. To embrace the connecting threads, and perhaps flow WITH them. I look forward to experimenting more with this new element.
Stasis is the element of will and control. It slows, detains, and shatters. It was our first step into Darkness, and taught us the universe is not as black and white as it first seemed. Elsie Bray and Eris Morn have slightly different interpretations of how one masters this element. Fitting, as Stasis thrives on individual will, but merging their thoughts gives me this... Control over the self can foster control over others, but without power over the self, destruction runs wild. When we wield Stasis, we must exercise the ultimate authority over both self and others.
Void is the element of cosmic distortion. It is the pull of gravity and the promise of entropy. The vacuum of space, and the gravitational forces that shape it, teach us that emptiness is not nothingness. In Ikora's words... "To wield Void is to draw strength from both the immeasurably small and the unfathomably massive." With it, we bend the very fabric of space-time.
Arc is the element of motion and conduction, and is created when the electromagnetic forces of our universe struggle to achieve balance. According to Ikora, Arc teaches us that change is a fundamental aspect of the universe. "To wield it is to ride the storm of the unguessable."
Solar requires us to both exploit and rely on the power of our sun. But to master it is to understand the star's duality. The nuclear force that scorches anything foolish enough to draw near... is the same force we harness to heal. It feeds the flora of our galaxy, just as it begets drought and famine. Destruction and re-creation are a necessary cycle.
One thing is really interesting--who Osiris decides to quote for each. Obviously, it's only really him and the young wolf who know about strand at this point, so he just gives his own thoughts on it. And well, he is known as the Phoenix, so obviously he is also just giving his own interpretations there. Mentioning Elsie and Eris makes sense for Stasis, since they are part of the "Darkness Vanguard" of Beyond Light (and would be the types to have more academic thoughts on it then say Drifter).
But then we get to Void and Arc, and interestingly, he quotes Ikora for both. Obviously the two most well-known/prominent lightbearers of Void are Ikora and Saint. I assume Ikora has done a lot more academic work than Saint on Void, thus Osiris doesn't quote his husband.
But why Arc? This really makes me wonder if Ikora was a Stormcaller before becoming a Voidwalker. But at the same time, this made me realize we don't really have an arc users well-known enough in the game currently (and I mean well-known enough for them to quote it to possibly people who don't read the lore/new to d2/returning players). We have so many solar users, a few void users, and lots of people who either use different elements or their preference isn't specified. But arc? Saladin used it in the one lore entry where Lady Efrideet yeeted him, but that is about it.
So yeah. Just something that made me rant to my boyfriend while we listened to these together. Even he was kinda surprised Ikora was quoted for arc. Idk, is this back up in lore that I haven't read? Or is this new lore that perhaps Ikora was a Stormcaller? I've always assumed she was a Dawnblade before becoming a Voidwalker.
TLDR: Osiris decides to quote Ikora when giving a brief overview arc, which is pretty random. Was she a stormcaller at some point or do we just have like no other arc-users to quote?

A love relationship with Shiro-4.
He lives among civilians.
Ikora's pupil.
More information about Iberis-3 under keep reading. I wrote a whole essay.
Short' History:
Iberis-3 is a young warlock, resurrected a few years before The Red War campaign. He was found somewhere in eastern Europe by his ghost, named much later Eva.
His 'young years' in the old Tower weren't positive. Iberis had problems with controlling his light to combat purposes, he wasn't good at the crucible and had personal problems understanding being a guardian, why him etc. There were also self-confidence issues. This annoyed his ghost so they argued a lot in Iberis early years. Eva was pissed off that he cannot be like others.
Iberis left the Tower after half a year. He didn't want to be a guardian/warlock. He didn't like his ghost. He was fed up with it all. After another argument, he parted ways with his ghost for several months. Eva stayed in the Tower with the other ghosts and the Speaker.
Iberis was homeless in the Last City for a while until he was hired by one of the civilians - Eddy. Not only that, Eddy allowed him to live with him and his family in his house for a while until Iberis became financially stable. Eddy did it because Ibeirs gave his missing dog back and saw that this exo had serious problems. For this reason, Iberis worked on the farm (not EZD farm, but in the Last City. People and guardians have to eat, k?). There started his fascination with plants and learning basics.
At this time he started getting dreams about Traveler which shows him how differently he can use his light, not-combat purposes. Iberis at this point began to understand that he could somehow control the growth of plants, but very poorly. Therefore, he began to learn the basics and requirements of plant cultivation.
Months passed. Iberis moved to a small apartment in a residential block but continued to work on a farm. He felt good in this place and made friends with other civilians. Iberis kept the fact that he was a warlock a secret because he didn't want anyone to know about it.
This time was important for him. He began to feel comfortable with who he is. I dont mean the guard stuff but more his personality, what he likes etc. At The Farm, he met many friendly people. He didn’t feel like a total loser. I always thought that self-confidence is associated to accept who we are, well I wanted a small fragment of this in the story of Iberis. I cannot say Iberis-3 is always confident but his positive, calm thinking helps him with some problems.
Unlucky for him, his ghost again found him after this time. Ibeirs wasn't happy about it, he felt immediately as bad as in the Tower when he saw her again. He was 100% sure that she would try to make him come back which he didn't want to. His little life wasn't perfect but he feels much better than when he was the newbie guardian. To his surprise, however, Iberis's ghost didn't want to make him do it, but to talk to him. At this point, she also asked him not to call her Ghost but Eva.
Eva apologized to Ibeirs for her earlier behavior, constantly whining and scolding him for every little thing. She said she wants to stay with him no matter did he wants to be the guardian or not. Iberis reluctantly agreed to this. Luckily, he didn't regret it. Their relationship has changed dramatically to a more supportive one that finds a common understanding.
During the attack of the Red Legion, Eva convinced Iberis-3 to join other Guards to defend The Last City, but we all know how it ends. Iberis-3 saw the Hero of The Last City - Scilla-7 falling from the Red Legion’s battleship. She and her ghost didn’t survive that. They were dead.
After losing the light he fled the city and the story is not different than the original story from the game: Helped at The Farm, his light back, helped the vanguards, and finally beats Ghaul.
He hates when he’s called The Red War Hero because he thinks we would do nothing without the help of Zavala, Ikora, Cayde-6, Suraya, Eva and many other people. The Traveler beat Ghaul, NOT him. He just had more luck than skill. That he survived is a miracle, but you know - people don’t listen.
After The Red War, he was back to be Guardian. He still has problems at the Crucible, and still feels uncomfortable around Lord Shaxx but he's forgiving of himself - baby steps to be better. Meanwhile, Ikora helps him to better control his Voidwalker light which with her help Iberis-3 does very well, and makes quick progress in a short time. Nobody can be good at everything, right?
More of a story from a different time. It's too much, slr.
Personality:
Iberis-3 is a calm person who didn't like to show many emotions around other guardians, especially strangers-guardians. He still has trauma after his blueberry years. Iberis much easier gets in contact with civilians but still keeps his distance, and doesn't want to open for others easily.
But when he finally opens up after a long time or has a good reason, he's a nice and friendly person. He unexpectedly turns out to be a very warm person, full of understanding and not immediately judgmental. He is a passive observer. He is aware of what is going on around him, and associates with other guards/civilians but never makes contact when he doesn't have to. Usually his ghost Eva tells him what happens in the Tower cuz she's much more social than him.
Iberis is an introvert. Crowded and noisy places? Parties? Public events? No, thank you! If he doesn't have to be there, he 100% won't be there. He feels more comfortable in quiet and calm places where are not too many ppl.
Iberis is sarcastic and observant. He can also be brutally honest. He's not a fan of carefully choosing his words so as not to offend anyone.
However, in addition to these shortcomings, he also has a more witty, playful nature. He doesn't show it often unless he knows someone pretty well or if you are his ghost Eva.
Other Facts:
Iberis-3 name comes from the flowering plant Iberis sempervirens - Evergreen candytuft or Perennial candytuft, the flowers are white. He knows about this but doesn’t share this fact - candytuft doesn’t sound good for warlock.
On Earth, EDZ, somewhere around The Farm, Iberis has a greenhouse. He’s interested in flora, not only flowers but also fruits and vegetables. He doesn’t share this fact because he thinks that it wouldn’t be well received by other guards. (You, know many more dangerous, serious problems. Growing plants = wasting time).
Iberis-3 likes painting and drawing. He’s not good at this but makes him happy. Mostly he draws/paints plants ‘cuz he describes in this way unknown species from The Nessus or plants from The Earth about which he cannot find any information.
Iberis-3 has an apartment at The Last City. (I always thought guardians live in the tower as roommates/alone or something like that). He wanted more privacy and to leave work really far away when he has a bit of free time.
Iberis has a cat. Her name is Trouble. She lived in his greenhouse in EDZ but later he took her to the city.

Okay, that’s all from me for now.

Twitter’s sinking quicker than a boat made of swiss cheese so I guess I should board the lifeboats and post a intro into who I am and what I’m about. Even if this is the only piece of OC/non-go-live-post I post here lol.
So Hi, I’m DanJon! I’m a twitch streamer and video editor. I primarily play Destiny 2 and games with campaigns or story modes. Recently I’ve played through all of the RGG/Yakuza games [0 is the best but that’s hardly a hot take], Detroit Become Human, both of the Red Dead Redemption games, and a whole lot more. My complete list of streamed games can be found here. I’m live Tuesday through Saturday at 14:30 UK / 9:30a ET.
Destiny wise, I main Voidwalker Warlock and have done since the D1 Beta. Attatched to this is a couple of pieces of art of my main character; Sabrina. She also acts as my PNGTuber avatar. The art of her sitting is by my friend Argonncept on Twitter [LMAO] and Twitch. The black and white art is a gift from my friend, and clanmate, Runesael [Everybody should follow him, he’s amazing]. I’m a former member of the clan Peasant Guard, known for being the clan of MyNameIsByf, and I’ve featured in a number of his That Sounds Like A You Problem episodes, I’m the loud Welshman known for causing audio damage with sneezes. I’m currently a member of the clan Endless Gremlins, and the name is apt when you tune into our D2 streams on Saturdays.
Other things about me. I studied documentary filmmaking and editing at the University of South Wales, and got to work with the RSPCA on a film project about exotic animals. Fun fact, seals smell AWFUL. I was also part of a film (script writer, co-director, and editor) that got nominated for Best Film at the last Zoom Cymru awards. I don’t think we deserved it, but hey, a nomination is a nomination.
I love soccer/football (FC Dallas and Leeds United are my two teams), Formula 1, and making jokes about white viscous substances and their propulsion methods. If you think anything here interests you, then I hope you follow me here, or on my Twitch page.

I figured I'd finish posting about the maps, each of the worlds will get their own post because I'm a picky bitch, once I've got these map posts done though only god knows what I'll do, probably do things on the Voidwalkers or the Lurkers if I'm gonna be honest, but anyway, back on track.
As it's the campaign I'm the most focused on at the moment I figured I'd do You do not belong here next:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can tell I like having named and unnamed versions of my maps, don't particularly know why, just like it like that. This one was definitely a bit more interesting to make though since I didn't have access to as many biomes as I usually would.
Eltaris is set at the bottom of the world tree and in essence it is built up of everything that has fallen off of the world tree, this made for a lot of interesting aspects such as the suns and moons being fractured and broken, the gods that inhabit it not being truly immortal instead having to pass on their divinity as their lives draw to a close and biomes not forming as they should.
Most forests are made of either mushrooms or giant calcite or crystal formations, the only place with actual trees being the center island because the Mistress of Ruin brought them with her when she bunkered down here. Each place is named to give outsiders knowledge about what they may find there such as Blizzard having a strange amount of blizzards that make surviving there rather difficult.

welcome to the family
“But that’s the thing!” Ari gestures widely, nearly smacking Journey in the face. With her head out of view beneath the table while she rests her head in Journey’s lap, the gunslinger seems intent on exaggerating her hand gestures to remind the others of her presence. As if any of them could forget. “I’m just saying that my shit is just as valid as any of yours!”
“You always make everything about yourself,” Adalynn says under her breath, but it’s loud enough for them all to hear. Mason shoots her a panicked look and Adalynn rolls her eyes and doesn’t continue.
All of them sitting around the table of this little inn in the middle of nowhere discussing their traumas at eight in the morning-- well, most of them, she thinks as she glances at Mason-- wasn’t exactly something Journey ever imagined them doing, but she supposes it’s hard to deny that that is, in fact, what’s going down.
“We’re all… fucked up,” Elanora says, and while her words slightly slur, she doesn’t say it with quite as much bitterness as she usually does. “Just in different ways.”
Maybe, Journey thinks, although Elanora would never admit it, especially once she sobers up, getting her past off her chest feels better than she thought. Her story had been… a lot. All of their stories are a lot, but Elanora’s in particular. It explains a lot. Journey wonders if she’s always been like this, or if it all changed after she lost the one person she truly had.
“We can all agree to that, I suppose,” Ven agrees beside her, her hands resting on Ari’s boots. Quite a change from their earlier predicament, with her and Mason sitting themselves between the two just in case. She’s glad.
How strange, how different her and Ven are, Journey thinks. They’re the only two of faith here, and yet they’re practically opposites. She can never understand Ven’s ways, even if she accepts them. Ven’s so traditional, and meanwhile… Journey looks at her prayer book, still on the table, covered in barnacles. Meanwhile, she’s very much not. More than that, she doubts she’ll ever be able to understand the pain Ven feels when she talks about being thrown from her temple. Temples have never meant anything to Journey. But Ven… does. And she isn’t good with emotions or empathy, but she doesn’t have to understand to know that if she can help Ven, she will.
Ophelia gives a small nod, although she still looks shaken from her earlier admission that she doesn’t know what the point of searching for a cure for the Filth for her anymore is.
She doesn’t know Ophelia. Not really. She knows what happened to her, after everything with the council of course. But they haven’t talked, not one on one. Still, Journey can’t help but feel awful. Watching the other woman visibly try not to break down in front of her and Ari while discussing her likely fate… it hadn’t sat well with her. She’d offered her assistance in whatever Ophelia needed to search for a cure even if she had no idea about anything relating to diseases, but she can’t shake the feeling that she should be doing more. Their lack of conversation hadn’t done away with how much of herself she sees in Ophelia sometimes.
The hand not playing with the ends of Ari’s hair taps the the table slowly. Across the table, Mason catches her eyes, just for a moment. Maybe it’s because she was just backed into a corner and admitted she’s from Agia Marina, maybe it’s because he now knows they’re from the same place. Maybe it’s because they both saw each other back out of confessing all their traumas while everyone else bared their scars for each other to see. Either way, she can’t help the strange pang of… kinship she feels when she looks at him. Like they’re both aware of what they just did, that they have something more in common than they thought. What specifically she isn’t sure yet, beyond the Luzinde thing, but it isn’t hard to recognize someone who’d rather leave the past in the past.
It’s not like any of it haunts her, really. It informs the way she acts, but… it doesn’t haunt her. She’s already boxed away everything and put it away in its own little place so it doesn’t bother her. It’s like she said. Life is just one fucked up thing after the other. It doesn’t do her any good to dwell on it. Just keep moving and none of it matters anymore, none of it’s her problem anymore.
(Liar, the voice in her head hisses, and she winces.)
“This is weird,” Ophelia finally says quietly, voicing what they were all thinking. A small chorus of laughter fills the table.
“It is,” Adalynn agrees.
And Adalynn is so strange to Journey, in a way she still can’t quantify. An enigma. But her story clears a lot of things up, she supposes. Makes her more like the rest of them. Unwanted, rejecting the life she was given. Journey can respect that, although Adalynn still unnerves her. She’s too… blunt. Too interrogative without ever giving her own things away until pushed by Ari.
“It’s better this way,” Journey says, dropping her eyes down from all of them to the empty table.
A crew who’d sooner turn their blades on each other isn’t a crew at all, it’s just a group of drowned people waiting to happen. It’s quite a bit drier up here, but she sees no difference between a crew at sea and a crew on land. And that’s what they are now, aren’t they? They’re a crew, like it or not.
Strange, that. To think of herself as part of a crew. Part of something.
These people are strange. Perhaps some of the strangest people she’s ever met.
And she likes them, she realizes. She likes these strange people, despite their petty bickering and eccentricities.
It’s been half intentional and half out of her control, the way she’s kept people at arm’s length. She’s always had trouble making connections, letting people be close. It’s just an invitation for them to hurt you one way or another. And she’s promised herself she won’t ever let herself hurt again.
And yet… these people. These awful, obnoxious, annoying, self-righteous, self-important, loud, nosy people. These fucked up, broken, sad, lonely people all reaching out for someone to understand them. And here she is, just as desperate for companionship as all of them, despite what she’s convinced herself.
They’re all broken pieces shattered in different ways, and maybe they don’t form a perfect picture together like a puzzle, but maybe their sharp edges fitting together is all that matters.
It’s better this way, she says in her head again, and she realizes how much she means that as she glances around the table at these people-- these friends-- as they all seem to come to the understanding that they’re all more alike than they thought.
Quite a crew. An heiress disinherited who can’t even trust her own memory. A paladin cast down from her temple by the corrupt. A runaway noble who resents the society that never let her family be a family. An exile miraculously alive despite her infection with an otherworldly disease. An assassin haunted by the ghosts of her past and the demon she thinks caused it. A wandering musician who claims nothing bad worth mentioning has ever happened to him. And her.
Journey. The tiefling cleric with her waterlogged prayer book she doesn’t know a single passage of, who hears the call of the waves, who talked to a god in her dreams, who keeps moving because if she stops moving she doesn’t know what she’ll do-- if without the constant movement the carefully constructed compartments she’s built inside her mind will break down if she’s left to dwell on them.
Her perception of herself has always been shaky at best, with nobody to solidify it for her, but--
But with these people, she feels like less of a ghost, something left over from something greater, more real. She feels like a real person.
And she isn’t a mind reader, but she wonders if they all feel the same, deep down.
“So like, this means y’all can’t be mad at me,” Ari declares, and the whole table groans.
Ah, Journey thinks with amusement. Maybe all of them haven’t been too changed by this situation after all. Perhaps that’s for the best. All they needed was an understanding of each other, in the end, and they have that now.
And Ari. Journey twirls a piece of white hair between her fingers as Ari keeps talking in her lap, not even noticing. Nearly everyone else had become annoyed with the Elven woman at some point during this partnership but… but not Journey. And maybe she’s just agreeable. She knows she’s rather neutral on most things, that it takes a lot to bother her. But she doesn’t think it’s just that. She’s patient with Ari. She listens. Ari talks a lot, of course, so it’s hard not to listen to her, but Journey listens.
Not just to her words, but to everything between them. She never would’ve guessed the full extent to Ari’kithel’s concerns regarding her memories, but she knew Ari was lonely. She thinks maybe she knew Ari was lonely more than Ari knew for a while, at least until recently.
She’s not sure why she listens to Ari as much as she does, why she pays so much attention to her. She’d been the one who started this all for her, in a way. This… opening up thing. They’d all been a muddle of faces, names she didn’t recall.
And then Ari’kithel and her swirling cloak and her strange machine that sounds like thunder had leapt up on a table and Journey hadn’t been able to stop listening.
Not just to Ari. To all of them. She knows things about them now. Not just the basics, but silly things. She knows Adalynn has reading glasses she only wears sometimes. Ophelia fiddles with her braids when she’s nervous. Ari’s cloak billows by itself, because of course it does. Elanora likes kids, but she likes cats even more. Ven bites her lip when she starts thinking really hard. Mason’s favorite colors are yellow and green.
She thinks about what Tomas said to her and sighs. Well, she ended up doing what they asked after all, didn’t she?
She trusts these… friends. She likes them.
What a strange turn of events indeed, she muses, and the corner of her mouth quirks up just slightly.

Finally got the sets I ordered from Dispel Dice! The top left is Voidwalker for Casimir, my GOOlock, and the top right is Vaporwave for a fun 80’s themed campaign I run.
(I should make it clear that the bottom two belong to @madpaxfuryroad — we did a group order! The bottom left is for Alma, their sick Druid-lock.)
If you’re scouring tags wondering if the dice you get from Dispel look as good as they look on-site: yes! Granted, their look depends heavily on the lighting and the set you get, but as you can see if I take my time and get good pictures, they’re very close to the promo photos. Even my Vaporwave set (which has been notoriously varied according to what I’ve heard) is quite clear!
They don’t look this good in regular lighting, which is expected, but I’m still very happy with the purchase. They come in beautiful boxes and are (almost) flawless (I had one poorly-painted number on a set.)

Additional photos in regular light.

My partner has just (as in, half an hour ago) been made redundant. She had a management job with excellent pay, so this is a major blow to our finances.
My Ko-Fi link is below. Really appreciate any additional support at this time. <3 Donations will not be used to license art for my ttrpg projects (which is their typical use), but rather to help us stay afloat.
Would you rather get something for your money? I totally understand! I have many games on offer.
Keen on a spooky castle solo adventure? Reason/Run is just 50c!
Would you rather play as vampires with your friends? 25th Century Vampires is $1.49!
Eldritch adventure forged in the dark? Voidwalkers is $2.99!
Are you a 5E fan? Have cosy Zelda inspired adventures or adventures in a Pleistocene campaign setting for less than $2 each!
If you can't afford to purchase a game or donate, I would love if you considered reblogging this post. I know so many people are in need right now, and I definitely don't fault you if you decide to put your limited funds towards others in need.
Any and all support is deeply appreciated. <3 I'm waiting to hear if I got some contract work, but for the meantime our only consistent source of income will be my part-time game store job- which barely covers my own share of our rent.

Like...man. When Dispel's good, they're really good, but their results vs their product photos are just so wildly inconsistent. From what I've heard, multiple sets from this campaign (80's Kid, Vaporwave, Voidwalker, Ethereal Light, some of the ones with real flowers in) look nothing like their product photos--and whether the culprit is studio lighting or just the dice themselves being made wrong, I'm genuinely pretty disappointed. Love my Knifedancer and Pastel Dreamscape d20s but I'm going to be thinking twice before ordering from them again.

HELLO. VOIDWALKERS?
HI YES I HAVE VOID-WALKER INFORMATION FOR YOU!!!
I just got out of a VERY exciting campaign session, which doesn't have anything to do with void-walkers, but I just wanted to share that.
Anyway, I have a new void-walkers development for you, and that development is that I'm starting to narrow down the supernatural abilities that void-walkers have!
I think I might've mentioned this previously, but void-walkers have funky powers based on a wide variety of factors, such as how successful the ritual was and also when it was performed. I haven't worked out all the nitty-gritty of that, but I have some ideas.
(And I'm starting to think it might work best to have it be a power system where powers are... not necessarily UNIQUE to each character but there's so many possibilities that it's hard to narrow down what each void-walker can do for the most part, it's just a matter of how powerful they are.)
So generally the powers void-walkers have are limited to like. Supernatural type shit, not any kind of physical superpower type things. So you're not gonna get a void-walker with super strength or shapeshifting (as much as I love shapeshifting). I'm just gonna list some powers that my void-walker OCs so far have:
Juno is telepathic, allowing them to glimpse into the minds of those around them and also "speak" telepathically to others. Unfortunately, their telepathy is very unstable and they can't peer very deeply into others' minds unless they're really concentrating. Generally, they only see surface-level thoughts. (Also this ability is extremely overwhelming and they can't turn it off, so they get overstimulated around large crowds easily.)
Asher is one of the stronger void-walkers around so I think she has multiple abilities, but her main one is that she can look at another void-walker and say "no" and completely nullify whatever power they have for a time. Juno can't read her mind, for one thing, and she can just decide to "turn off" Juno's powers for a bit (which she does whenever they have to be around a lot of people, so her friend isn't too overwhelmed). Asher doesn't really advertise that she can do this, but she can! It has its limits (like I think she can only limit one person's powers at a time), but still.
Aeneas essentially has fucky mind-control powers, wuh-oh! She can't completely take control of another person, but she can very strongly influence them to do her will, and they're 100% aware that they're being controlled the whole time but they can't do anything about it. This doesn't work on other void-walkers, but it works very well on humans.
Apollo is telekinetic, but its telekinesis is very limited and generally speaking it can't lift objects that are over five pounds. However, it can lift a bunch of objects at once, as long as those objects are less than or equal to five pounds total. (If Apollo REALLY concentrates, it can lift heavier things, but that takes a lot of energy so uh. That's pretty rare.)
[Redacted Bastard Man] can quite literally drain the energy and life force of those around them. I haven't developed this ability too much just yet, but it's a large reason why even other void-walkers don't like being around him. Actually while typing this I just got the idea that it could very much relate to touch--physically touching others (as in skin-to-skin contact) allows this character to drain energy from those around him, which he can then use for whatever bullshit he wants. That's very similar to the main antagonist of an old kinda-sorta-WIP I haven't touched in a while, though, so. Hm. Will have to think about that.
Jason actively tries to ignore everything about him that is affected by him being a void-walker, so I'm thinking a lot of his story would center around the fact that he doesn't know what abilities he has and not only is he afraid to ask but he's simply not going to ask. He doesn't know what's happening and he is perfectly fine not finding out. Jason just wants to get through his week and watch sad romance movies while crying on the couch.
Anyway this took longer to type up than I thought it would!

⊰ HEADCANON ⊱ ◦ D&D CHARACTERS.
My brain was going to explode if I didn’t write out all the characters Eddie has used in campaigns, with a couple that he plans on using in the future. He absolutely loves his haul of chaotic trolls. I also tried to make them a bit cheesy, because it seems very him, for now.
◦ ZENKABAT. Male half-orc druid, 30s. Lawful neutral. A devout animist who used to have a penchant for taking in orphans and strays due to being orphaned himself at a young age. However, he was wrongfully blamed for an attack that left most of the children under his care dead, and now he trusts no one except the few he’s forced to work with. STATUS: HIATUS. ◦ IHSAHN, THE VOIDWALKER. Male human assassin, 40s. Lawful evil. A worshipper of the voices in the void. His entire life was spent seeking revenge on his sister who sold out their family to bandits, and they slayed everyone but him. He managed to kill her, but then died soon after while trying to defend Jeff’s character in a final boss fight. STATUS: DECEASED. ◦ IRON-FIST KJETIL. Male dwarf warrior, 50s. Neutral good. A legendary mercenary who strikes fear into his enemy’s hearts. His past is a mystery, since he often lies about it, especially when drunk. People like to exchange stories they’ve heard of Kjetil. Did he really kill that lord and his lady one-handed? Or sell his liver on the black market? Or run an undercover operation for moonshine? Or give half his mercenary pay to the local orphanage? Who knows.  STATUS: IN USE. ◦ DOC WEAVILL. Male gnome bard, 30s. Chaotic neutral. A joke character that lasted a little too long, in his opinion, but he still loves the Doctor Evil joke in the name. Doc was made to be a sidekick to one of Gareth’s characters, who eventually died. Eddie saw no real use for him after that. STATUS: DISCONTINUED. ◦ QULYMSHA. Male half-orc bard, 20s. Chaotic good. To keep the spirit of Doc Weavill alive, but better. Qulymsha hails from the family of a chieftain, but was exiled from his clan for not having any interest in battle or continuing their noble lineage. He’s a charming playboy with a knack for the fiddle, and gets caught in a string of adventures. STATUS: IN USE. ◦ MAINA SILINIRE. Female half-elf elemental mage, 30s. Chaotic evil. A mysterious woman with no recollection of her past, except her name. Regardless, she’s fueled by vengeance to get back what once was hers. Legend states she once a beautiful yet wicked countess who bathed in blood and milk to stay youthful in appearance forever. Obviously based off Countess Bathory. STATUS: ASSUMED DEAD, WILL BE BROUGHT BACK LATER. ◦ YEZDAR. Female half-orc shadow cleric, 20s. Lawful evil. Born to a cult that worships a wide array or dark lords and ladies. While skilled in alchemy and healing, she has unsavory ways of going about it. STATUS: IN USE. ◦ FARWOLAETH, STEALER OF SOULS. Male elf nightblade (thief / mage cross-class), 30s. Chaotic neutral. Loyal to none but himself... and maybe a handful of people for the right price and / or friends of old. He’s merciless and likes to collect the teeth of all his victims as a trophy. Sometimes he pretends he can tell fortunes with his assortment of teeth, much like bone-throwers, in order to swindle people of their money. STATUS: STILL CREATING. ◦ IGNATIUS VON GEHENNA. Male human unholy paladin, 40s. Lawful evil. So far, Eddie only has this much written down. He’s constantly daydreaming about this character. STATUS: STILL CREATING.
