Volotober Days 28-31: Gold, Spooky, Lost+Thank You

and just to be consistent, i’m here to finish off volotober 3 days after october ended, bc my artistic skills decided to peace out for the entirety of the halloween weekend 😭

tbh, i had a long angst comic prepped for the finale. had the little script and storyboard, but when i actually tried to properly draw it, my hands absolutely refused to make anything decent. i like it too much to draw it badly, so i decided to save that for a rainy day.

therefore, i compromised w/ my brain and came here with an offer of pinups instead, as a massive thank you to everyone who’s liked and reblogged all my stuff thru the month, esp to the ones who leave such sweet and funny tags 🥰 i tuck away every single one in the serotonin bank for future use ✨

Volotober Day 9: Prayer

I’m pretty sure no one thought I was actually gonna make this prompt happy lol.

Just when Volo thinks he’s hit rock bottom, the ground caves in. Thus begins his villain arc (feat. Giratina) 🤧 After all, if God won’t answer, then the Devil comes calling.

Volotober Day 2: Togepi

A warm egg is a happy egg~ ☀️🥚

It’s not shown here (since I was rushing these prompts), but my favorite hcs for Volo’s Togepi are the “deviled egg” hcs 😆 It’s adorable to think of her mirroring and wholeheartedly scheming with him. I just love the idea of Volo’s whole team acting completely differently from what’s expected of their species <3 no matter what, they’re ride or die ✨

I’m sorry this is so late 😭 I lost the initial sketch and moped about it for a whole day (+ it took a while to find time and energy again).

Anyway, this picture is inspired by the Giratina plush I own, which is just so wonderfully cat-shaped ❤️ Also, I’m not gonna pass up the chance to draw Volo in another ‘outfit’, especially with his Sinnoh hair ✨ (idk what the game is talking about. you can totally wear headgear w/ that thing)

But that’s the last for the weekend’s prompts, which, as you may have noticed, were very ‘cutesy’ and fluffy 🌸 Because oooh boy, the last 4 days are about to take a different turn 💀

Volotober Day 8: Home

“That place is not my home.”

Little backstory for why Rei’s there: While I was drawing for day 8 and 9, I realized it would fit another AU I had brewing. I just call it the Sinnoh Clan AU, since the premise is to have everyone (barring Jubilife Village) assimilate into one giant clan that worships Arceus, Palkia, and Dialga. Volo, Rei, Irida, Adaman, and the others all grow up together in the Sinnoh clan.

Special children are chosen to undergo training as a ‘champion’ to serve one of the deities, and both Volo and Rei were part of the group chosen to serve Arceus. However, at the tail end of the final competition, Arceus makes a ‘public’ show of choosing Rei as his champion over Volo even though he won fair and square. There are already rumors that Volo was seen consorting with the exiled god, Giratina, so the rest of the clan members take it as a sign that Arceus doesn’t want him to remain in the clan.

Unfortunately for Volo, the strange lightning that affects the Nobles happens right after, which doesn’t help his case one bit. He’s chased out of the clan after one of the Nobles attacks them, narrowly escaping death when he’s taken in by an older couple from a nearby village.

Rei, who now holds the highest power in the clan as Arceus’ champion, secretly looks for him to apologize and bring him back (since he doesn’t believe that he’s cursed). But Volo is obviously resentful of his former friend, and refuses to go back under his ‘pity’.

Tomorrow’s prompt is ‘Prayer’! Do you think it’ll be a happy set this time? :)

Volotober Day 1: Festive

My (3 hrs late) submission for #Volotober2022! I only saw the prompt list recently so I didn’t have much time to really think over this weekend’s prompts. :< This was so rushed haha. I’ll be doing the peaceful mode to avoid burning out.

Anyway, this is supposed to be set during the village festival. Just Volo and his trusty eldritch partner in crime enjoying the calm before they bring the storm.

i really wish they would’ve shown him in a yukata too during the ending artwork.

Volotober Day 7: Ruin

“Before he brings us all to ruin.”

Oooh, this one is kind of vague since I was aiming for the other definition of ‘ruin’. Hopefully it came across!

Now that I’ve had time to think it over, I wanted to try a different ‘style’ and ‘theme’ each weekend, so for days 7-9, I’ll be trying to make fake anime screenshots showing young!Volo :D This is my first time trying it out and I’m just happy it looks ok 🌸

Sorry for making him cry, but everything about him implies his childhood sucked.

Volotober Day 21: Team

Here it is! To keep with the spirit of the prompt, these pictures were done as a team by me and my friend 🤝💕 I did the sketch and lineart for the 1st pic while she colored it in, and then we switched for the 2nd one. as mentioned before, I love the idea that Volo’s team acts completely out of the norm for their species. ofc none of this is final, and I plan on publishing a series of drabbles expanding on their pasts and interactions sometime in November.

Togekiss — Cunning and devious just like her wielder. Like an ice queen. She only melts when she’s with Volo, or when her teammates need her care. Her family’s happiness matters above all else, and she’ll give no quarter to anyone who threatens that. As Volo’s ace, she’s the strongest of the team and she knows it.

Garchomp — Shy, but sweet and intuitive. He is very cautious and careful with new things because of his past as a Gible, but he can also be rather naive and quick to sympathy. He is conscientious of his size, and hones his power to a fine point, so his attacks are always deadly and precise, unlike the usual raw destructive power of his species.

Roserade — Lax and easygoing. He loves food above all else, and he’s easily bribed with it. Other than that, he likes to dance, and he enjoys joining in the ones Volo does as part of old traditions of worship. Likes to play dirty, making full use of his paralysis and sleep powders. If it helps him win quicker, who carers?

Lucario — Feisty and quick-tempered. Gets into arguments with Togekiss sometimes. He’s incredibly fast and powerful, but he often falls for taunts and leaves his defenses down. Though he won’t admit it, he can also be very clingy.

Arcanine — Though most of her species are wary of their surroundings, she is headstrong and hasty, dashing off ahead on her own without looking for danger. This, coupled with her clumsiness, often gets her into trouble. Thankfully, her team is always there to watch over her, and her wielder trains the clumsiness out of her before her final evo.

Spiritomb — Cheerful and clingy. He’s always attached to his wielder when he’s outside, and likes to accompany him in ruins, providing light and conversation. I tweaked the face on his keystone to look like it’s smiling, just to drive it in.
