Rehab Class AU:

Class 1-A has a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, ranging from "how much can a banana cost, $10?" to "this is the ramen brand with the best flavor to cost ratio" but rehab class has the weirdest understanding of money. Because like, some of them were normal, some of them were rich, but they all now have access to Vongola allowance and are also encouraged to steal things instead of using it anyway. They're "we live in a society and this is how you can best twist the rules to your own benefit."

I can definitely see Gokudera and Chrome swapping tips for cheap meals that are still nutrient dense with Ochako after seeing her eat instant ramen for the third time that week while at the same time Hibari’s family always ran in the same(ish) circles as the Iidas Todorokis and Yaoyorozus and had never once had to think about money in his life. Mukuro is the one telling everyone that it is always morally correct to steal particularly from that store that happens to fund a mafia family.

To be entirely honest the only person that really uses the Vongola money as it is intended is Tsuna because he outright refuses to take any of his parent’s money, particularly after his mom went on a months long “vacation” and left him with three kids to raise (Well 2.5. He shares custody of I-Pin with Fon who does help with her needs now that he is actually able to do so without getting them both grabbed by child services).

Huge headcanon that Tsuna employs his mother's mannerisms in the future, canon universe or otherwise.

Like when he doesn't want to acknowledge something, such as his guardians destroying the Vongola mansion yet again, or the Varia exceeding their allotted destruction quota and causing budget troubles.

Cue him smiling, eyes closed, all but radiating geniality and the most malewifey housewifey aura possible.

"Ara! You must be mistaken. There is nothing much happening here." (Translation: There is no war in Ba Sing Se, for my own peace of mind. In fact, when I turn around, there better not be any war in Ba Sing Se.)

"Ara! Would you look at that? It seems some strange people believe in budget fairies!" (Translation: The next time any of you destroy my budget, I'll string you up by your intestines while playing a cello in your gut.)

His guardians or the Varia or whoever's responsible immediately start swearing buckets and putting things back in order as soon as they encounter the dreaded 'Ara' mode.

Or when he's at the end of his rope and is about to snap at some idiot mafia don or oyabun or pakkan.

Cue him with one arm wrapped around his midriff, with the other either covering his mouth or cupping his chin like a dainty young maiden, demure Sawada Nana grade smile on his lips,

"Ara! Isn't this just wonderful?"

"Ara Ara! You all have been quite busy I see."

"Araaaa! How interesting! Isn't this all just lovely Reborn? Go ahead and shoot them all will you?"

(Reborn, to everybody's horror, tends to comply with anything Tsuna asks in this mode, because Chaos of the most delightful kind often follows the Ara)

Ooooooooor when he genuinely wants to be oblivious, like whenever Vongola Nono brings up the topic of heirs.

Cue him sipping his tea calmly, with perfect manners, and then, "Ara! I'm sure Xanxus would find someone in due time. Don't rush him!" (Completely ignoring Timoteo choking on his tea and the prospect of Xanxus's kid being Vongola Undici.)

Or when Iemitsu wants to pretend they are close.

"Ara! What's this? Did you hear something Reborn?"

Personally I call this the Tsunarara hc...you know... After the anime Durarara... Ya kind of lame I know.

I see this as the AU in which Tsuna, who has nothing else in his life, decides as a kid that he's gonna be Nana's Disciple and learn the Art of the Housewife since the outlook isn't really good for him otherwise.

Come to find out this makes him terrifying in the future

Hello and welcome to Day 11 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Today I wanna talk about a plot bunny that has been on and off inside my brain and that, currently, has been going nuts ever since I explained the MDZS Magic Kaito AU.

The fandom for this plot bunny is not one I have spoken about on my blog yet - Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

More precisely, I have this as a Kakeyo Hitman Reborn (Detective Conan AU).

Working title: (A Mafia Boss?) No, I am a detective.

The idea starts with a change brought by the sealing of Tsunayoshi's Sky Flames.

Basically, instead of stunting his growth and clouding his mind (and you can't tell me those symptoms weren't at least halfway caused by the seal), Tsuna's seal acts a bit... weird. Weird as in, Tsuna ends up with "Kudo Shinichi Levels of Luck in Finding Dead Bodies."

Because of this, not only is Tsuna constantly encountering criminals (big or small), but also he is pretty much adopted by the police department of Japan. Yes, all of it. (Don't ask him how he ended up with more uncles and aunts than there are kids in his class.)

Tsuna, since he is pretty much followed by death everywhere besides his home and Namimori School (where Tsuna doubts even Gods would try to start shit because Hibari Kyoya is scary as fuck), ends up gaining an interest towards the law and towards the work of a detective. Hibari Kyoya, whose family is part of the police force, definitely approves.

In fact, he approves so much that he is giving lessons in self-defence (read: beating up) to Tsuna from a young age. All Kyoya has to say is that the "sky omnivore" is promising.

As the years go on, Tsuna ends up with a rag-tag team of kids that help him (read: get themselves involved) in solving murders/kidnappings. Tsuna even has a phantom thief that he faces every other week against. (I DO want to make that phantom thief be Kaito KID just because he is definitely a Mist Flame with Lightning secondary and Cloud Tendencies.)

The end result is that when Reborn comes to tutor Tsuna for the position of Vongola Heir, Tsuna has already (mostly unknowingly) gathered a separate set of Guardians on his own; is already trained by Hibari Kyoya in hand to hand combat and trained in armed combat by the police and, most importantly, IS part of the police force... and is vehemently against taking the position of Vongola Heir.

(Reborn is really going to kill Iemitsu for his blatant disregard towards his family's daily affairs. The idiot COULD'VE stopped his own child from joining the police force if he cared enough.)

Things to note:

Tsuna can still get his canon Guardians in this, but the way and the order in which he gets them will be different.

Hibari Kyoya is still scary as all hell in every universe, this one included. He is just more Alaudi (or was it Alaude?) coded than before cause handcuffs are more prominent in detective/police work.

Byakuran is probably gonna start laughing like crazy for about half an hour when he learns Tsuna is with the police force. Why? Because the irony of World's Best Mafia Boss (in other universes) being a detective and member of the police force in this universe is killing him.

Let Tsunayoshi have friends. Like seriously. Let him make friends through this profession/curse of his. (Whether the friends he makes OUTSIDE of Japan are part of the Mafia or not is another story)

Iemistu fucked up by not being around his family more. Now, he is definitely paying the price... Reborn wants to take his kneecaps as compensation for the bullshit he has to deal with now.

Honestly, I have soo many ways through which the seal could affect Tsuna and make him go a different path in life. But the Mafia still catches up to him. At least in this AU, Mukuro should be more... chill towards Tsuna cause he makes it clear he is part of the police - which isn't that much better in retrospect, but at least Tsuna is not ,nor does he want to become a Mafia Boss. Also, Tsuna probably has memorized all laws of Japan but mathematics still give him a headache (mostly because of his teacher).

Another one of the someone reincarnated as Skull au

Except it's not just one individual it's the whole Black Bulls squad (and maybe even extra people)

Just imagine the Comedy™ of the Arco being Across and then we pull into Skull's head and start listening to every member of the bulls saying something at the same time with no one fronting .

Because yes they change who is on front a lot . Even if Asta , Finral , Vanessa , Charmy and Nacht front the most , and Zora if he is feeling vindictive .

And I can just imagen that every Arco has their favorite person for fronting :

Luce - Vanessa and Asta

Reborn - doesn't sticky have a favorite but prefers Asta and Noelle the most because of how he can teze them

Fon - Met Nacht once(while the bulls were new to the whole one body thing) and decided this is gonna be his personality from now on while everyone else is depressing because there is another one now

Viper - despite being amused and even somewhat friendly to Zora , Vanessa and Nacht actually has Charmy as their favorite . They are also the only one who knows and suspected that the Arco's Cloud is actually multiple people in one body (is not sure if it was a mist thing gone wrong , born with multiple souls or if Skull has multiple personalities)

Lal - can't decide between Luck and Magna (If Mereoleona is not here that is)

Collonelo - the favorite is Luck

Verde - Would be Zora if it wasn't for the facts a) Zora is fully on having a prank war with him and b) Verde is so prideful that he won't recognize Zora as someone of his level

Neither the Arco nor the mafia knew that Skull was actually multiple people until one fateful dinner bal in the Vongola mansion when the topic of cloud's being able to clone themselves came up . And immediately Skull asks very enthusiastically how to do it and gets shown how to do it .

At which point the black bulls (more specifically Gauche as he has experience in how to make clones) make a clone for each person of them and that is when shit hit the fan .

Finral and Vanessa immediately started raiding the cellar for wine .

Nacht started to insult everyone other than the children (aka Tsuna , Enma , Lambo , Ippin and Futa) left , right , up and down . In the background Fon is on the verge of tears because he recognized this smile that is his idol . While everyone else is deeply terrified .

Charmy is starting a raid on the kitchen .

Asta and Collonelo are having a full on screaming match while fighting . Bonus points if Yuno , Libei and Lal are looking at them cheering on

Zora continues being a menace to Verde .

Noelle raiding the nearest armory so she can kill Reborn for what he has said for her family .

Luck and Magna fighting and drawing people in the fight . Gray is trying to stop them while Gauche is cheering them on .

Nero is looking at this and recording it for later .

Gordon and Henry are babysitting Tsuna and the rest of the kids .

And at some point Yami (with a cigarette in his mouth as always) punches the nearest wall while telling them to shut up and to stop destroying things , only for the wall he punched to crumble . Of course that causes the true shinanagans to start .

While the Black Bulls are having their normal (for them) life everyone else is losing their mind because the Arcobaleno Cloud Skull just cloned himself and now there are like a dozen clones of him and all with their own personality and different flame at that . Serious what the fuck?!?

While all of this is going on Viper is having a poker face of innocence while giggling on the inside .

KHRxNBoF Crossover Idea:

In this AU Nana and Tsuna are some of the many, many relatives that Natsume stays with (I'd say at this point he's probably 10-11, very much pre-canon for both series).

And it's not actually that bad of a stay either!

Oh, there's definitely bullying at school, don't get me wrong, but Tsuna gets bullied there too so he's not the odd one out. When they're actually home they get along fine.

This is helped by the fact that most of the time when Natsume runs from Yokai or bullies Tsuna is right there with him, either because he's ALSO running from bullies or he just got a Bad Vibe and felt like Natsume probably had the right idea about whatever just happened (he is correct. everyone in the series could learn a lesson from him on Listening To Natsume More).

Sure, Tsuna gets Dramatically Confused by his actions occasionally in true Tsuna fashion, but y'know, he's #1 least likely to refuse a request so he's still going to go along with it.

Nana's absolutely thrilled that Tsuna has a friend, even if it's one forced on him by proximity! He even has mildly better grades now that they're studying together!

Unfortunately, all of this ends pretty quick when Iemitsu finally notices there's a random civilian living with them and goes "hmmmm, that kid's attracting too much attention to my family, which is bad for The Family" and has him "transferred" (read: kidnapped and dropped off with a different relative) on a day where both Tsuna & Nana are out.

Neither of them know what happened, so Tsuna freaks out while Nana goes "oh no :( where could he be :(" until she gets a call from Iemitsu where he goes "oh yeah, don't worry about that kid, I got him set up somewhere that's much better for him!" (spoilers: It Is Not)

Tsuna's never able to find out where exactly Natsume got sent, so all he can really do is think back fondly to Those Few Months When Someone Besides My Mom Tolerated Me.

At least, that's all he's able to do until the end of KHR canon, at which point he has 5 seconds of breathing room to go "hey wait. I have money. I have informants. I have my dad's files on all the dumb shit he's done. I can actually find out if Natsume's even alive now!"

(he really was just going to check up on him, but nothing in the vongola ever stays secret, so shenanigans will drag them both in soon enough)

Something about [Myr] that people wouldn't expect just from looking at them: hhmm... I guess people would feel kinda intimidated by her at first, because she frowns a lot even when she's fine and likes to impose a sort of apparent dominance, but she's very insecure about some of the features that contribute to make her look menacing, like her broad shoulders and strong arms. She does feel a little uncomfortable when people stare at her shoulders and tends to cover them with a jacket or cross her arms frequently in an attempt to cover them.

How does [Anemone] behave when enraged: Mone is... very bad at getting angry. She bottles up things a lot, and except for Lidija and Myr she doesn't have anyone she'd feel comfortable opening up with about them. Since those two aren't available during working hours, she does her best to keep a nice and productive atmosphere among her team and prefers to just vent by herself in her room. She also can't keep her rage up for too long before crying, no matter how hard she tries to stay firm.

An AU that would be interesting to explore with [Tristam]: ooh interesting! If we're talking specifically about KW, an AU without Myr with him as a protagonists who gets to meet the present Vongola Kids would be super interesting (and funny as hell for me to write). Otherwise, a school rom-com KHR AU where he needs to learn to behave like an actual teenager while dealing with his himedere complex.

but i have so many favorite blorbos :pleading: but since i'm writing a fic with him, and he is a Core Blorbo, let's talk about Xanxus di Vongola

he's a Loyalty Guy! no one is surprised by this being one of my core xanxus headcanons, but he's almost unshakeable once he's sworn to someone. almost. it can be fucked up, and if you fuck it up, you're boned. @ timoteo di vongola: square up. But while his loyalty is given, he'll do anything. He will complain, though. He's that variation of the rotten work meme--he'll do it, but christ alive.

one of his easiest meditation tricks to kill time while working is to completely strip, clean and reassemble his X-Guns in his head.

One day after Tsuna is actually in charge of the Vongola, he definitely storms into the manor and goes "here's all your security vulnerabilities, fix them or we can do Cradle round two." Tsuna was touched. Hayato blew several gaskets.

It's always one of my Tsuna/&Xanxus headcanons that Tsuna sometimes escapes the Vongola mansion to lie on the couch in Xanxus's office and bitch or nap or just be Not In Charge for a while. Xanxus complains endlessly about this. Tsuna stopped for a while once, and Xanxus became so fucking unbearable that there was a whole game of Telephone (Squalo -> Takeshi -> Tsuna) about "please whatever happened stop it, he's Awful to live with right now"

He and Tsuna have the same favorite whiskey. They developed this taste independently, and Xanxus drinks it neat while Tsuna prefers it on the rocks.

Fencing AU: he's a saberist. known for hitting hard, he's definitely from a school that thinks you should make sure the ref calls for you by having your opponent flinch. If he's fencing kids, all that goes away, and it's all very precisely metered, but up against people in his age range, you know when he hits you.

He can cook! he's actually really good at it. When he was a weird out of place little preteen, he liked to hide in the kitchens of the Vongola manor, and eventually the head cook (Erica Martelli) put a knife in his hands and said if he was going to lurk he should be helpful. She's been retired from working for the Vongola for most of two decades now, but Xanxus keeps an eye out on her

The only person he trusts to cut his hair is Lussuria, but the process of him actually GETTING a haircut is fraught every time. there's lots of fire and yelling.

His handwriting is very narrow and slanted, with a constant sense of impatience. he's also a deft hand at sketching? he doesn't do it much, but his ability to render things he's seen quickly, cleanly and recognizably startles a lot of people when they first experience it.

he's very good with money, and keeps a very close eye on both his own personal finances and the Varia's. A certain amount of this comes from his childhood, but he's also just extremely good with numbers and he finds the accounting soothing. the varia books are scrupulously kept, it's a little eerie.

 Everyone has the one word that they always use to try and catch the attention of people. It was embarrassing to consider having such a plain greeting or comment on your skin.

 Sawada Tsunami grew up with the words ‘Fucking Shitty Trash’ and ‘Cocksuckers’ on her upper arms. Luckily in Italian, but her mother snickered often as she remembered the look Imeitsu gave when he saw them. It was a favourite story of her mother’s to tell to people at the sushi restaurant when they discussed kids. Tsuna and Takeshi would roll their eyes at their parents when they got going.

 Some days, Tsuna wondered about what would have happened if her mother hadn’t met her true soulmates and broken free of Tsuna’s sperm donor. Tsuna probably would have been sealed, and her mother still in the haze. She liked her life, even with her former father trying to argue about Tsuna needing to be a mafia heir.

 “I don’t want to be one,” Tsuna said very clearly to her former father. The man scowled.

 “Tuna-fishy,” he began, but Tsuyoshi interrupted him, glaring.

 “Do not refer to MY daughter so familiarly,” he growled. That got Imeitsu up in arms, and Tsuna turned around to look at anyone else. The old man, Vongola Nono, looked stressed. His Guardians were all trading nervous looks. This was not going how they thought it would. But her gaze became caught by two of the younger people there. Vongola’s bastard son and his Rain. She caught their eyes. Xanxus, the son, scowled.

 “Fucking shitty trash,” he grunted. Tsuna’s mouth dropped open. The Rain, Squalo, laughed.

 “Cocksuckers,” the man jeered.

 Well then.

 “You both are motherfucking bastards for putting those words on me you dickholes.” Tsuna announced. Silence reigned until she casually continued. “I marry you two, you can rule. Boom problem solved.”

 Chaos erupted, and Tsuna just grinned.

Hm... in general, Haru is a person who puts a lot of emphasis on ties with people. She cares a lot for others, and is prone to prioritizing others over herself.

If it came down to it, if the choice was between her and someone else dying, she'd volunteer herself. She's just that kind of person. It doesn't mean that she's brave, mind you. She'd be absolutely terrified, but above all that, she couldn't handle knowing that someone else died in her stead. The immense guilt is one thing, but she also cares much more for others, so she'd literally never forgive herself.

We know that Haru is quite the friendly bean, and she gets along with a wide variety of people. She could probably view people as important to her like family. Lambo is like a little brother to her, Kyoko and say-- Chrome would be like her sisters. Bianchi is that cool older sister to get advice from. Ryohei can be the older bro type.

The rest-- she don't see them as siblings I can tell you that much lol. Friends, for sure. If they hid less from Kyoko and her, maybe she could view some of them with like sibling bonds, but nah.

Honestly, Haru wouldn't even think twice before sacrificing herself if it came down to someone like Kyoko or Lambo. Not even a thought in her mind, she'd just move on instinct. She's very impulsive like that, sometimes.

I'd said before that if the situation was such that Haru had the choice to choose between herself or anyone in the Vongola, she'd choose to save the other person. That holds true regardless. IF it was a dangerous situation, she'd hesitate with some of the guys mostly because she has trust in them and is pretty confident they have the situation under control. She doesn't want to but in and accidentally make the situation worse.

HOWEVER, Lambo is entirely a different story. She views him as a kid brother. She won't even think. No hesitation, she will try to protect him. It's not even a question.

Haru's opinion on family is -- skewed. She did have a family, but she doesn't remember them, so as far as she's concerned, they're simply strangers. Then coupled with the fact that it's believed she died in the 'incident' and some other child was mistaken as her- she feels like any remaining relatives that are alive mean almost nothing to her.

They mourn the death of her parents and 'Haru Miura' so they made some other child their family. She feels disconnected to them, but admittedly she is curious about who they are. It's one of those things where you wonder about how your life could've turned out if things have changed, you know? (referenced in the one meme)

In a thread it was mentioned that she didn't feel the need to tell anyone the truth because she feels that finding out the truth that she became an assassin and she lives the days putting her life on the line for dangerous missions-- oh and she has literally no childhood memories, is that really something they want to know? Isn't it better to believe that the family had perished at the same time together? They can be together in heaven.

Then there is Bel who killed his own brother, Ravein whose parents have died because of a mistake he made so many years ago, she's just like DAMN families kinda suck and sound like a major lability.

Thus, I think I mentioned before that Haru in the Varia!au has no real opinion on romance and she has no drive to find one for herself. She's perfectly okay with being single- honestly, she prefers it.

She doesn't know what having a family is like so she only has like theoreticals to go off of. She really treasures Sentai-san, Bel, and Ravein, but she doesn't really know how to accurately describe their relationship. In truth, she does kind of view them as siblings, but she herself wouldn't know how to really put it that way.

She imagines what she feels for them is like siblings- but then she looks at Bel and is like 'mmm maybe not. I don't want to die' lol

SO Tsuna I see having four kids! One girl and three boys wit the girl being the oldest! Their names in order is Renata, Hiroki, Taiyo and Basilio who is a few months older than Reo

I see him being kinda overwhelmed at times because lets just say ¾ of his kids cause chaos and one seems to attract trouble just like him when he was younger. He would be super strict on spending time with each of them enough due to his own real lack of a father growing up. He is actually kinda strict with punishments but not to a crazy extent and half the time a good sob from his kid can get him to loosen it.

As for Yamamoto I see him having kids a bit later compared to everyone else, not because he did not want kids but because e wanted to not rush finding his true love I guess as well as worry for their safety so In my draft so far he has a 4 month old boy called Reo and a two year old called Kaemon.

He is SUCH a natural dad on the outside but really when its 2 am and his kid is screaming then we see the real Tired Dad mood, tough he makes a big point of never yelling at his baby for the most part and keeps up his usual routine. Really he is just trying to be as good a dad as his was for him. His dream is to get them into sport as much as he was and he constantly brings them around the other vongola kids because as Yamamoto sees it they are basically all siblings just without the blood.

Ryohei has a twins and since he kinda only wanted one with his wife that’s probably it! The boy is called Asahi and the girl is called Atsuki

He is hella involved with his kids and is still his dramatic self while parenting aggressively cheering them on however he is one of those parents that goes silent and rather than yell he just lets it known he is disappointed and it KILLS THEM. He also comes across as kinda cringy because he constantly is butting into his kids hobbies and popping in to see them when they have friends over but its legit because he adores them and even if he does not understand their hobby he will still make an effort. He is as emotionally clueless as he was in his youth but he really tries guys like he really really tries so hard. He often goes to his sister for help or advice and if his id is clearly frustrated he tries to blow it off via sparring.

He gets a lot of help from his sister and his friends because at first he was quite insecure over being a father and well Minerva saw him as a stranger but over around a year he started bonding with her properly and actually end up really close because of how they started. They have a good relationship and he is pretty lenient but has some rules he is serious about her never breaking, mainly because they are based on his own mistakes. Though he tries not to be a hypocrite though and has tried to stop smoking. High key she has improved his life. 

Hibari has Two kids, two girls called Ume and Sachiko

Strict Dad and honestly hides how much he loves his cubs and only shows this in small and I mean SMALL gestures. He knows basically everything they do and though he is protective to a highhhh degree he also allows them to make their own mistakes, still he makes sure he steps in before anything too bad happens. His kids are usually the only ones to spot his actual mood under his usual intimidating face. He is also super selective over who he allows into is kids life, though he lets some things slide which is surprising to everyone. 

Mukuro was extremely hesitant about having kids and was convinced that due to his past he could not even have kids. So he adopted a few teenagers once he was older, knowing how it felt to be unwanted in a way since teenagers usually are not adopted. This included one girl, two boys and eventually he settled his nerves and had a kid , who is a boy and is the same age as Kaemon. Their names are Reiko, Leon, Quincy and Sora

He plays pranks on his kids and scares the living day lights out of them but he really is there for them emotionally as he wants to raise them to be more than their pasts, something no one did for him

Lambo I see being a big brother figure to many of these kids but I have yet to think of any kids he may have?

WAIT I REALIZED FOR THE MHA/KHR AU

Tsuna and his guardians are pretty much raising Lambo I-Pin and Futa. Like officially on paper it’s his mom but in reality Nana has been in Italy for months at this point with no intentions of returning home any time soon so when the dorms become mandatory Tsuna panics because what is he supposed to do. The kids can’t live with Reborn. Lambo wouldn’t last a night!

(Not to mention after everything they have been through it is rare that all of them sleep alone for an entire night. Whether it’s Chrome slipping in with Mukuro or Lambo crawling into Tsuna’s bed or Tsuna himself getting pulled into one go his guardian’s arms after they catch him lurking unsure nearby. They aren’t meant to be alone. Can’t be after so long in each other’s pockets.)

Nezu’s solution is a family dorm that he states will be helpful for both staff and potentially older students. Which means several teachers and the occasional other student who drops by their dorm building for some reason or another gets to see the Vongola incredibly domestic.

Tsuna bas always been Family, not Famiglia and I don’t see him not using every scrap, every way to get what he wants to know to keep his kid(s) safe. Because Karma is his, too, now. Was ever since he stepped in range.

Just saying, all else aside Asano is going to be lucky if he doesn't find himself booted out of his own school way way ahead of time. Like, Hibari has ruled a school system before, he's more than capable of doing so again.

I.

There is a moment, when Sawada Iemitsu looks down at his five year old son, his cute, shy, perfect little Tsuna, and the voice in his head -- that irritating, always spot-on instinct his family is reknown and feared for, the intuition that has never once lead him wrong -- tells him this boy will burn everything you hold dear to the ground.

He drops the child -- his sweet, gentle Tuna fish, his son -- in shock. Tsuna screams in fear, but luckily doesn’t hurt himself from the fall. 

[Though the boy never lets Iemitsu throw him up into the air again.]

Later, Iemitsu will shake the eery feeling off. Will push it aside and convince himself of the folly of his five year old son being in any way, shape or form a threat. It helps that his intuition never flares up again, not with that intensity. But an uneasy feeling remains, and though Nana is sad to see her husband leave so soon, eagerly waits for him to return, it will be eight years before Iemetsu returns to visit his family for a meaningful length of time.

He’ll find Tsuna a downtrodden, cowardly boy, bullied and friendless and so very unsure of himself and the darkest part of Iemitsu -- the part he will never admit to -- breathes easier for it.

but what ABOUT a khr au where the arco are tsuna’s guardians tho?? where they speedrun him through his growth with all their chaos, seven little not-babies menaces running around and stretching his sanity very thin, but going batshit crazy whenever anyone else even only mildly inconveniences him. batshit crazy in the murder way of course. also tsuna is low-key insane himself, as a treat.

anyway i think this is how they'd meet:

REBORN

okay so let’s just put aside the fact that tsuna is the last vongola heir for a bit, but of course they still meet. reborn is in namimori for one random hit or another, and he just so happens to cross paths with tsuna. tsuna who’s walking home from yet another day of bullying at school by both teachers and students, and looks miserable and pathetic, and the way he holds himself all hunched up over himself and ducking his head because god forbid he makes eye contact with anyone and looking around him like something will jump on him from nowhere and everywhere tell reborn everything he needs to know about what kind of pitiful life he lives, but. he still catches his attention.

so he purposefully walks past him to test him and test the waters in his best “i’m just a normal baby” impression, and tsuna. tsuna does a fearful, wary double take that seals his fate, because reborn? reborn goes “oh, he’s a too beautiful diamond in the rough to be left unpolished.”

he shows up the next day at his door, says he’s a tutor and he’s here for him.

“you’re a baby,” tsuna says, with too much wariness and disbelief he shouldn’t have the self awareness to have.

“let me in, i wasn’t asking,” reborn says.

“i’d still rather not.”

reborn gets in somehow, and by the time tsuna needs to make sense of that (he doesn’t), reborn has already charmed his mom with a gentlemanly bow and removal of his hat as a greeting, and a “what a lovely home”, and a “this is truly some delicious coffee”, and a “under my guidance, your son’s grades will noticeably improve within only a month, and i only ask for a roof and food in exchange.”

tsuna sits across from him at the kitchen’s table, because what else is there to do at this point?

“did you ever try killing one of them?” reborn asks him casually out of the blue. “i think it’d significantly improve your obvious, deep self-esteem issues, and your life in general.”

and the first words out of tsuna’s mouth are “i mean, it would, but--”

reborn stays. (of course he was always going to stay, but this? he wouldn’t miss on this for anything in the world.)

COLONNELLO

i like to think that wherever one of the arco goes, at some point or another all the arco end up there too and make it everyone else’s problem, so of course one day colonnello just bursts through tsuna’s window, all guns blazing and aimed at reborn, triggering reborn’s traps around his sleeping place, and suddenly there’s bombs exploding in tsuna’s bedroom. of course reborn responds to colonnello in kind and more.

tsuna screeches screams, falling from his bed, then scrambles for cover for literal dear life as reborn and colonnello use his bedroom as a battlefield. his clumsy, flailing limbs and panic make it harder to get under his desk, the bullets wheezing past him and reborn and colonnello using him as foothold which will definitely leave bruises not helping, and almost like they’re doing it on purpose (reborn totally does).

colonnello eventually deigns noticing him once reborn and him are done saying hello to each other. he raises his eyebrow. “you got a kid?”

“i found him,” reborn says.

he’s more like a pet, really, tsuna hears loud and clear, and you know what? he’s okay with that. he’s really not ready to deal with the implications and expectations of being reborn’s kid just yet. being his pet is a hell of a lot less stressful, and reborn is making his life pretty damn stressful as it is already.

“hi,” he greets colonnello. “maybe next time you can use the door? it’s something pretty common over here a lot of us have. maybe you can even knock? it’s just kind of seen as the polite thing to do, you know.”

colonnello laughs, startled and delighted. “you’re literally hiding under your desk right now, where the fuck does that sass come from?”

“i know, right?” reborn says. “he’s full of surprises.”

“yeah, i can see why you like him.”

FON

tsuna thinks he’s having a stroke when he meets fon. thinks he’s looking at hibari who somehow was turned into a baby, and is freaking out too much to really notice the red pacifier around his neck and getting to the calming conclusion he’s just another one of reborn’s friends. thinks he’s looking at hibari who’s so pissed by having been turned into a baby, he’s smiling.

“hello,” fon says, bowing his head, and tsuna thinks it’s hibari genuinely being nice with him.

he faints right there and then in the street.

he wakes up in somene else’s bedroom, a traditionally japanese one, nicely tucked in the bed he’s lying on, his head resting on a comfortable pillow, band-aids on the scratches on his face.

“oh, you’re awake, that’s good,” fon says, sitting at the low table in the middle of the room, drinking tea. “let me try this again. hello, i’m fon, hibari’s uncle,” he adds, a teasing smile on his lips that makes tsuna flush.

“oh,” he can only think to say. “i’m tsuna. nice to meet you.” he should be wondering how a not-baby can claim to be hibari’s uncle, but reborn and colonnello have already led askew his definition of normal that much. he awkwardly sits across from fon instead, and now that his misunderstanding has been cleared up, takes notice of the red pacifier around his neck. “you know reborn?”

“yes, i’m here for him actually. to catch up with what he’s been up to.”

tsuna isn’t pretentious enough to think he’s talking about him, but he sure feels like it with fon’s pointed look on him.

fon pours him a cup of tea too, and, tsuna actually spends a good time with him, chatting about everything and anything. a great time even, because fon never makes him feel awkward and ashamed of being, well, himself, even if he’s plenty awkward and clumsy and all around no-good during their time together. fon is nice, and kind, and comfortable to be around, and normal, and tsuna enjoys his company. likes him.

it’s good to know reborn’s friends aren’t all like, well, reborn.

(famous last words, tsuna. fon has a nice surprising coming for him, but only after he’s too attached to him to really care about it the way he should.)

SKULL

“hey, you!” skull hollers at him in a commanding voice. “take me to reborn, or the great skull-sama will make you regret it!”

tsuna wonders what his life has come to when the first thing he thinks about is if he’s just looking at a baby wearing a helmet, or if he’s looking at a baby with a helmet head.

he chooses to just walk past skull, ignoring him, because that’s just skull’s shit luck lol.

skull follows after him as best as he can with his short legs (lol), making tsuna takes pity and slows down so he can keep up with him. he screams threats at first, then tries to bribe him, then asks him somewhat nicely, asking him what tsuna wants from him in exchange for leading him to reborn, all of that in under five minutes, and tsuna feels bad enough for him he slows down again so skull can walk next to him, and kind of just lets him trail after him.

he doesn’t go home even if it’s where he was going, because he’s not sure if he should actually bring skull to reborn, and when skull asks for food as they wander through the shopping district, he kind of just. buys it for him. and next thing tsuna knows they’re hanging out together, and he’s actually having fun, and he learns more about skull in those couple of hours than anyone should ever feel comfortable enough to tell a stranger they’ve just met. like, he learns so much about skull in those couple of hours. and chooses to straight up block out the words “mafia” and “giant octopus” and “immortality(???)” to reach his brain.

he gets so comfortable with skull he doesn’t notice he’s lead him straight to his house until skull bursts inside and finds reborn in the living room.

“reborn!” he shouts angrily, pointing at him. “i’m here to take revenge for oodako!”

reborn gives him a once over. “who?”

“don’t play dumb, you sideburns freak!”

reborn puts his hand next to his ear, turning his head to show it pointedly. “yes?”

skull steps back, shaking, his voice quivering. “i’m-i’m not afraid of you!... reborn-senpai.”

and. tsuna has been fighting against it their whole time together, but his sense of kinship for skull bursts out of him right there and then, taking a deep hold inside him.

he scoops skull up in his arms, and his voice is the most stern it has ever been when talking to reborn. “reborn, do you have to be always so mean? skull-kun came all the way from italy just to see you, you know.”

reborn raises his eyebrow at him. under his helmet, skull’s jaw drops at the same time he’s swearing his unwavering loyalty to tsuna. and it is that he just stood up for him, but also that he stood up for him against reborn from all people.

from this point onwards, skull will fight even reborn for tsuna’s sake no questions asked.

skull is the first arco tsuna openly adopts back too, and he’ll never let the other arco live it down.

VIPER

viper isn’t here to know what their idiotic fellow arco who don’t even know they’re still alive are up to, of course not, they couldn’t care less. (it’s a lie, it’s single-handedly the only reason they’re in this small, unknown town that has no business getting so many arco visit it.) they’re here to... to make sure they aren’t up to arco businesses that... that could prove helpful in their research to get rid of their curse. yes, that, that right here. that’s the only reason they’re trailing after sawada tsunayoshi, obviously.

which tsuna doesn’t know about, of course, even if he keeps looking over his shoulder, and looks right where they’re hidden every time. which of course isn’t what is actually happening, because viper is the best of the best, they’re an arcobaleno however much they hate that fact, and if their trailing tells them something, is that tsuna is a below average nondescript teenager, and they really don’t know what’s the fuss about him.

but also viper is the best of the best, so they make themself visible again right in his face. “how do you do that?” tsuna screams, falling, but they ignore it. “how did you know i was there?”

tsuna takes pathetically long to put himself back together and stand up again, and viper really can’t see what’s all the fuss about him.

“um, well, i don’t know?” viper’s unimpressed look must come across through their hood because tsuna shrinks on himself even more. “no, really, i... i just know things sometimes. have always did. and...” he shrugs. “it’s always right, so now i just trust it blindly.”

“like instinct?”

“um, yeah, i guess? yeah, um, instinct, that sounds right. or, like, intuition? something like that.”

and isn’t that interesting? good thing this won’t turn out to be a waste of time. “what if i take you gambling then? what about poker? casinos?”

tsuna blinks. then shrugs. “sure. i mean, it won’t technically be robbery, right?”

viper blinks. almost laughs. oh. that boy’s morals were already askew before he ever met reborn & co, and now everything makes sense.

(a lifetime of isolation and ostracization and bullying would do that to you, because what’s the point of trying to hold yourself to standards that aren’t just the barest minimum of human decency when no one thinks for a second you can even do that?)

“of course not,” viper says. would you even care if that was the case, they don’t ask, because they have plans for that intuition of his, thank you very much.

LAL

lal learns about the arco frequently visiting some random town in japan, learns that reborn even took temporary residence there, and ignores it. not that it matters, because she will end up there too sooner than later once they’re done leveling the town or whatever and come to her to clean up their mess, these fucking bastards. but she gets to ignore it until then, as a treat.

except she learns the town in question is namimori, where her boss’s son lives, and see, she doesn’t give a damn about the kid, have straight up refused to even look at a picture of him because she won’t be complicit in putting the kid under any more danger iemitsu doesn’t seem to care putting him in, but iemitsu talks so fucking much about him, and. she feels some kind of responsibility to him, or whatever the fuck, god fucking dammit. but look, point is, she just has to make sure he won’t come anywhere close to the other arco, for her own peace of mind.

she really doesn’t expect him to be the reason the arco are in his town to begin with. none of them are actually there when she shows up at his house, but their flames are everywhere, and what the fuck?

somehow she blacks out, and when she wakes up again she’s having tea with the kid and his mother in their kitchen. and smells reborn’s favorite brand of coffee in the air. which means he lives here, and what the fuck?

“so,” tsuna starts awkwardly. “are you one of reborn’s friends too?”

“no.”

tsuna laughs. “you all say that. but sure, just--” he glances warily at his mother. “how similar a not-friend you are to him?”

lal raises a pleasantly surprised eyebrow. the kid has a sharper insight than one might assume. “similar,” she just says.

“oh.” oh? reborn is the world’s greatest hitman, or does that have yet to come up? very unlikely. “that’s great.” what? “i mean, you know, it’s cool to know there’s at least one woman among you, maybe even two. equality and all that, right?”

his mother laughs. “it really is, isn’t it?”

the kid laughs back, like he meant what he said. and, well, it explains everything, doesn’t it? that kid is clearly insane in the head too, just the right brand of insanity that’d make reborn and the others stick around, and god forbid lal leaves this be alone. do they even know just whose kid he is and all that comes with it? she just can already see vongola burn to the ground, she just can, which means she’ll be jobless somewhere in the near future, goddamnit.

lal drinks her tea to soothe the oncoming headache pulsing at her temples. the others will influence this kid’s insanity in just about the worst or ways, and she just has to see to it that it doesn’t get out of hands. (oh, who is she kidding, it one hundred percent will.) and, well, if she just so happens to have some inputs as to how he should burn vongola to the ground once they’ll get there, and who he should fuck over the most as he does, that’s no one else’s business.

VERDE

as a rule verde stays clear of his fellow arco, unless more than two of them are gathered together in the same place, because then it always ends up worth investigating why that is one way or another. when seemingly all of them are gathered together in the same place? he can’t not investigate why that is.

he tracks down the boy seemingly at the heart of all this, and it’s just his luck only reborn is there when he shows up. tsuna is coming back from school, and just stands there awkwardly outside his house as reborn and verde stare down each other.

“do you need something?” reborn asks, mock-casual and unbothered.

“what makes you think i’d ever let myself need something from you in any way, shape, or form? the worst of death would be more bearable.”

tsuna gaps.

“i laid my claim here before any of you. if you have any business here, you’ll have to beg me first.”

verde sighs. “didn’t you just hear me say the worst of death would be more bearable? but if we’re talking about claims, sawada tsunayoshi here has obviously the highest one and the last word on the matter.”

reborn scoffs. “as if he’d ever dare.”

except tsuna does, because someone genuinely talking back to reborn without backing down or indulging his bullshit an inch? he’d literally die for them.

he smiles down brightly at verde. “what if we talk inside instead? it’d be more comfortable.” he ignores reborn glaring daggers at him, and straight up emitting killing intent. “i know you already know my name, but i’m tsuna.”

“verde,” verde says, the smuggest look on his face as he looks at reborn.

“nice to meet you, verde-san. come on in.”

they sit at the kitchen’s table, cups of tea in front of them, coffee for reborn. verde cuts to the chase.

“you do realize who reborn is?” and all the other arco for that matter, but so far reborn is the one who apparently lives in his house.

“none of your business,” reborn says.

“yeah, i guess?” tsuna says. “i mean, reborn doesn’t exactly try to hide it.”

“you do realize too he won’t hesitate either as soon as you stop entertaining him?”

reborn rolls his eyes. “just because no one ever likes you doesn’t mean you have to ruin everybody else’s fun.”

tsuna shrugs. “i mean, i really didn’t do anything to make him show up to begin with. and it’s not like i could make him go away, right? but...” he shrugs again, then glances at reborn before glancing away almost shyly. “i don’t mind him being here. or any of the others either.”

“get fucked,” reborn gloats, but verde ignores him.

tsuna doesn’t mind it? that’s a pretty damn loaded and telling statement. he definitely should, and that he doesn’t tells him all that matters about the type of life he’s lived until the others showed up.

“who did this to you?” he asks, not really wanting or expecting an answer, but he just had to ask, because clearly the boy went through some tough times. to his horror, tsuna tears up, and a part of his brain that isn’t busy freaking out over that notices how displeased reborn is at this new development. “wait. stop, dont--i can take it back. i do take it back, just--”

he chooses to stay silent as tsuna tries his best not to straight up burst into tears, and to his relief, though confusion, tsuna laughs instead.

“thank you,” he says, because. because no one had ever said it so bluntly, had ever acknowledged it so openly that he’s been made into the way he is now, that it has been done to him, however much he resigned himself to it and has come to believe it’s how he was always going to end up anyway. it means more to him than he can say.

verde clearly doesn’t understand why he’s thanking him, but that’s fine.

“reborn said you might have business here? you’re welcome to stay here as long as you need.”

“take that back right now,” reborn says.

tsuna doesn’t.

and of course verde stays because the boy is clearly more than meets the eye, and lack common sense to be left alone unsupervised with reborn and his kind, but the fact he earned the kid’s favors to the point he doesn’t listen to what reborn says, which clearly infuriates reborn, plays a lot in his decision to stay too.

Tsuna is really, really tired. “Um, cursed?” said Hana flatly. “I thought we were talking about the mafia, not” she waved an arm, “fairy tales or something.” “When you get shot in the head by a baby and don’t die you kind of stop questioning things,” said Sawada in perfect seriousness. “Don’t worry, you get used to it.”

Summary:

A oneshot told from Tsuna’s perspective before the guardians really start clicking and before his resolve to either fix vongola or destroy it becomes established. It’s hard to tell what’s going through his head in the manga so I tried to fill in the gaps with fanfic by doing something introspective to lend some insight into his feelings. Also tried to make Tsuna’s lack of understanding for how the flame dynamics between his guardians and him influence their interactions, mirror our own (as very little was ever explained about that to him or us) while also making it a real subtextual Thing. Another part of this fic I focused on was to realistically portray how a bullied kid who’s used to failing at things would react internally to being in the middle of an artificial found family that explicitly hasn’t fallen together naturally but instead by design, Reborn’s design. Not to say I don’t love the guardians and Tsuna’s bond, just, I feel like a kid who’s never had friends suddenly having a bunch would need to process, anyway I enjoyed writing it and I like what the fic does so I’m putting it here.
