Night walk (fluff)
V x reader
-He takes you out for a night walk whenever he’s free.
-V never brings his little shadowy companions along, especially that annoying chicken.
-You and V would watch the beautiful midnight sky whenever the gleaming stars appear.
-Sometimes you have a night picnic with V.
-V embraces you and pecks your lips with a kiss underneath the moonlit sky.
-You always hold his hand whenever you go out for a lovely night walk with him.
-You lie down on the grass with your loverboy while watching the stars shining up in the dark blue sky, holding hands.

I slowly stirred from the soft sounds that I heard and grumbled. I turned away from Jennie and asked her to please stop humming in her sleep. Jennie grumbled back at me that I was the one being annoying and making too much noise.
I sat up and turned to glare at her when my eyes landed on a figure on her side of the bed and a shrill cry left my lips. The dark figure of a man was in our bedroom and I couldn’t stop the shriek that came erupting from my throat.
Rose was up quickly and clambered after the retreating figure cloaked in black. He melded into the dark shadows of the dimly lit backstage area of the opera house. Jungkook came scrambling up to our door asking what was wrong.
“There was a man in here!” Lisa and I cried out together while we all clung to our bedmates for comfort. Some girls were crying from the fright and the rude awakening.
Jungkook’s eyes widened in shock as he shouted for Hoseok and Namjoon. The two older men emerged from their respective chambers blearily blinking sleep away.
Jungkook shouted at the older men and tried to find where the intruder had run off to, when they heard a door slam open. Once the older men heard the gist of the abrupt end to their slumber, Namjoon was rushing up to check on us and Hoseok was rushing out with Jungkook to try and tail the intruder.
Jennie was comforting me, telling me that if anyone could put the intruder in his place it was the pair running after him. I nodded. I knew that she was right considering the hushed rumors of the two that I had heard over the last 8 months.
I hadn’t thought to entertain them though, knowing that nothing good ever came from gossiping. I just kept my head down and worked on refining my skills and keeping my Master pleased. A thought creeped into my mind now, did Master know that there was an intruder in the opera house this morning? I had no way of knowing. Would he praise me for raising the alarm or... was that my master that I briefly saw?
I wasn’t stupid. I also heard the murmurs and hushed tales and the famed Opera Ghost. A mysterious man who often caused strange accidents (most were little pranks to get a rise out of the current leading soprano Francesca). Usually, these little pranks were coupled with a note from “OG”, it hadn’t taken long for me to put two and two together. I never brought this up to my Master, fearing he would think I believed in the gory tales that were whispered at best or acted out to frighten the rest of the chorus girls from time to time by the older, alcoholic stage hand that Jungkook worked under at worst.
Namjoon did his best to comfort us as we waited for Monsieur Hoseok and Jungkook to come back. We waited with bated breaths; eyes glued to the door frame. Jisoo and Rose had made their way to sit on the bed I shared with Jennie. We sat huddled under our blankets and leaned on one another for support. Lisa sat at the edge of the bed ready to attack should the intruder decide to come back again.
After what felt like eons, the two silhouettes of Hoseok and Jungkook filled in the door frame causing us all to relax.
“Did you find him?” Namjoon asked the question that was burning in our minds.
Hoseok shook his head, “No, he got away, we stayed out to circle around the opera house, we couldn’t find any trace of him, or of where he broke in from...” he trailed off, deep in thought.
Most of the rest of the opera house was waking up from their slumber by now, continuing to work on their projects, blissfully unaware of what had transpired. “We’re going to have to tell Jin and Yoongi,” Namjoon sighed rubbing at his temples with his slender digits from his perch on the wooden stool.
“Kookie,” Hoseok started but then paused. “Never mind, just uh,” he glanced around the room and back at the doe-eyed young man. “Just go get some breakfast, let the cook know we’ll be sending the girls down soon.”
Jungkook nodded and was off without complaint.
The rest of the day passed without incident, even the Opera Ghost didn’t come out to taunt Francesca when her singing got especially nasally. The girls were always near, Jennie and Jisoo opted to staying near me, the intruder had seemed intent on getting to me according to their version of what happened this morning.
I just couldn’t wait for night to fall for it to be time for me to meet with my Master.
Unfortunately for me, the day insisted on dragging on for some unknown reason. I did what I could to keep my mind busy and my thoughts distracted from the events of the morning. Today though, God brought me a different distraction.
“Soul-ah?” I heard the soft, curious voice from behind as I mentally ran through the steps of the dance yet again.
I turned in surprise, not paying attention to who was calling my name, “yes?”
Jimin was staring at me, eyes wide with shock. “Soul-ah!” he ran for me and lifted me into his arms easily. I was startled to say the least. My cry tore from my throat causing others to stop and stare. Jimin then seemed to remember that we weren’t alone and set me on my feet gingerly. “I didn’t mean to startle you, my apologies.” Though his eyes were alit with mischief.
I scoffed and playfully smacked on his shoulder causing others to gasp and Francesca to go red in the face. “You absolutely are the worst liar, Jiminie,” I chided.
My dongsaengs watched with interest as the banter flowed between Jimin and I easily. Monsieur Hoseok took his time making his way over. I blanched and lowered my head when I saw him from my peripherals and realized how it must look to the others.
“Soul-ah,” Hoseok’s soft voice was so gentle, “please go and practice your stances 50 times.”
I nodded and with a curtsey, excused myself to find the bar furthest from Jimin and Francesca to avoid further punishment.

“You didn’t have to send her away,” Jimin chided softly to the instructor.
“I would appreciate it if you didn’t distract my dancers,” Hoseok smiled at Jimin politely.
Jimin’s eyes flashed with something and looked over Hoseok’s shoulder at the one dancer he was interested in. “She’s my noona—I haven’t seen her in 6 years.”
Hoseok’s eyes softened in understanding. That wasn’t the witty banter of lovers bumping into each other, he realized. It was the genuine reunion of siblings. “Still, there is a time and place for this kind of reunion,” Hoseok smiled clapping the younger man on his shoulder lightly. “Also, I’m not sure Francesca can stand not having your attention,” the older man added under his breath for only Jimin to hear. "You wouldn't want to cause your noona trouble, would you?"
Jimin nodded and made his way to the lead soprano to finally greet her, making sure to put in more effort today. He didn’t want his momentary lapse in judgment to cause his noona any more trouble with the lead singer especially since there were rumors that his noona would one day take her place.

After finishing my sets as Hoseok instructed, I took my place beside Jennie and we continued with practice. Hoseok watched us all closely. He was going easier on us considering the scare we all experienced this morning, but he still expected us to give our all to practice.
When the owners of the opera house had heard the news, rumors spread throughout the company quickly speculating about what this would mean. Jin and Yoongi had immediately sent out Jungkook to find some more young men that would stay watch for us to get added to the staff as stage hands. It couldn't hurt to have more eyes around, it was decided. A few hours later, Jungkook returned with two boys, Hyunjin and Han, they were introduced to the entire staff and performers. Yoongi interrogated the two to ensure they would be the right fit.
Then Jin swopped in and calmed the two young men easing their fears and they were led away by Jungkook to show them their sleeping quarters. Suddenly, it seemed that Hoseok was sending us off for dinner. I was happy to finally rest and couldn’t help the stirring butterflies that seemed to attack me now.
I ate quickly and told the girls I would be going down to pray for a few hours. They nodded and bid me a good night before giving me brief, strong hugs to send me on my way. I slowly made my way down into the chapel and lit a candle to help brighten the room a little and even said a prayer for the candle I lit.
“Angel,” his voice was clearer today.
“Master,” I beamed, the assault on my nerves deciding to finally settle at just the sound of his voice.
“I’m so glad that you’re safe,” he sounded as though he were right behind me. I nodded and clasped my hands together nervously. My senses heightened at the prospect of potentially seeing my master tonight. What a glorious end to the day that would be! I felt the smooth of fabric against my bare arm and stilled at the contact and then relaxed, knowing that my Master would never hurt me.
I took deep steadying breaths and turned quickly to look behind me to be met with the cold unfeeling stone wall. My heart sank. “Master?” I called out, the hurt clear in my voice.
“Today is not the day, My Angel,” he sounded further away again. Much like the distant deity that I thought him to be once more.
I couldn’t stop the cries that came then. I fell to my knees and cried at his rejection. I prayed that The Merciful Lord would reach down and smite me to end the pain. The torment and stress I had carried in my body all day finally broke me and I sat there in a crumpled heap, crying.
I didn’t hear his footsteps like I sometimes thought I could faintly hear in the past. I just felt strong arms and his distinct scent encircling me and pulling me close. I clung onto him desperate to revel in at least this. Man, or ghost, I no longer cared. It was him. He was the one who inspired my voice and helped me to fly like I did was all that mattered to me. I didn’t try to turn to look upon his face again afraid that whatever dream my mind had concocted would end once again.
“Take all the time you need,” he hummed in my ear as he rocked me in his lap.
I don’t know how long we sat like that, or how long it took for my sobs to die down. All the while, he stroked my hair and held me close against his chest, calming me and giving me all the comfort and support that I needed to slowly build myself up again. I studied the sleeves of the coat that he wore now that my tears had stopped.
The cloth was fine, the weave was intricate. When the light of the candle caught the fabric just right, parts of it shone revealing a subtle pattern. I took deeper and deeper breaths trying to memorize the scent of the man wrapped around me. “Take me with you,” I suddenly asked. “Wherever you go during the day, let me be part of that world.”
There was a soft sigh behind me. “You already are,” he hummed I felt him press me closer to his chest. “You need to sleep pet,” he softly reminded.
I nodded and reluctantly allowed him to detach himself from me. I waited until I was sure that he had left so that I could say my prayers and made my way slowly up the steps to the bed chambers. Han was at the door and allowed me to pass by wishing me a good night.
I thanked him and slipped through the door shutting it behind me. I fought sleep as I changed into my night shift after shutting the door softly and landed on the bed to let sleep take me. The crying took more out of me than I thought possible and the next thing I knew, I was in dream land.

Tendrils of Regret - Part 4
Read the story on AO3 here!

You remember the first night V slept by your side.
It was the second week after he freed you from the demon and the fifth night in a row you’d woken up from horrible nightmares. The demon’s thoughts were still in your head, digging into your psyche both while awake and certainly while you were asleep. And nothing you did helped. Not the soothing tea. Not the warm showers. Not the plants near your bedside or Shadow sleeping beside you. Nothing helped. Not until V came to your aid.
He entered your room in the middle of the night. “I’m sorry,” He said as he sat on the edge of the bed and reached for your forehead. “You’re burning up.”
You could believe it. You felt warm, especially with tears rolling down your cheeks. “I’ll never escape,” You said, pulling your knees to your chest.
“There’s nothing to escape from,” V said. “You’re already getting stronger.”
“It doesn’t mean anything if I never sleep.”
“Don’t say never,” He lightly chided. “You’ve had good nights.”
“Only a few.”
“It’s better than none.”
You groaned. “You’re far too optimistic.”
He took your hand, rubbing his thumb along the back of it. “Only for you.” You blushed. The rose on your side table bloomed. You glared at it, but V just laughed. “No use in hiding your moods.”
“Is that why you put it there?”
“I want you to be comfortable,” V said. “If it helps… then it helps.”
And it did help. You felt connected to the plants now, for better or for worse. Their energy was yours to manipulate, even if it would be months before you fully understood how to make it work. Not that you would ever understand why it worked. You just knew it did. “So what’s the plan?”
“You need to sleep.”
You frowned. “After a nightmare like that?”
V sat his cane down. Shadow appeared at his feet, hopping onto the bed and curling up behind you. “Would it be alright if I accompanied you?”
“In bed?”
V nodded. “You do well with Shadow, and I think you might do well with me,” His hand gently moved your hair behind your ear. “It’s your choice.”
Shadow purred as you nodded, holding your hand out to him. “Don’t go,” You whispered. “I don’t want to be alone.” You trusted him already. He’d saved you. He’d protected you from the demons that threatened your life and taught you everything you knew. And maybe you were too trusting, but you didn’t care. You had nothing else. Nothing but your plants, your vine, and him. And V followed as you pulled him, lying on the bed with the covers between you. One hand rested on your side as Shadow’s continued purring began to lull you to sleep.
“I’m here,” He said. “Just for you.”
--------------
You woke up slowly as if rising from underwater. You smelled a variety of strong, conflicting scents and, when you opened your eyes, you were overwhelmed by foliage. Plants were everywhere, spilling from baskets and hanging from the ceiling. Your single red rose had turned into twelve blue ones that were all a bit larger than normal. Stems were braided in the corners. Flowers covered every surface, spilling down over your drawers, up your mirror and around the legs of all the furniture. When you sat up, you were relieved to see that none of them were bursting through the floor. No, someone had put all of these in your room, but you had a feeling it hadn’t looked like this when they were done.
You turned slowly, feet touching the cold, wooden floor. You closed your eyes, feeling for all the plants on the edges of your mind. Once you found a few, you waved your hand, pulling back some of the life within them. When you opened your eyes again, many had shrunk back to an acceptable size. It was then that you realized you were in one of your nightgowns and your hair was still wet. How long had you been out? Who changed you? Why all of this?
A light knock at the door was one you instantly recognized. Lady! You tried to stand, but dizziness had you sitting right back on the bed. “Come in.”
Your jaw went slack when it was Vergil that entered, brushing aside the vines as he closed the door behind him. You suddenly felt very exposed, even though you were well covered. His expressionless gaze almost had you wilting. A few of your flowers shrank with your mood. “What do you want?” You said warily, lacking the energy needed for your usual sass. In fact, you felt drained, way more than you thought you should after absorbing such a large demon. You took one of the roses and lay it in your hand, watching as it withered away, donating its life to you. You placed it back on the table and looked up at him.
“I’ve been informed that I am, under no uncertain terms, to make a truce with you.”
“A truce?” You echoed. “What?”
“I am to stop antagonizing you and avoid giving accidental commands whenever possible.” You were almost impressed at how even his voice sounded. There was no disdain as far as you could tell, but his face didn’t give anything away. He was talking pure business, and that was something you could manage.
“That would be appreciated,” You said.
“I’ve also been informed that I am to be your partner for the foreseeable future.”
“My what now?” You said. “I don’t need…”
“Neither do I,” He interrupted. “But considering the circumstances behind your… condition… the others have tasked me with ensuring that you are…” His jaw set. “Taken care of.”
You snorted. “What did you put it to a vote?”
“I had no part in that decision,” He said flatly.
“But you’re going with it anyway.?”
“Unless you tell me otherwise.”
“Is that a sliver of hope I hear?”
His eyes narrowed. “Dante has made it very clear that he would be… disappointed in me if that were to happen.”
“Oh good,” You said. “Then feel free to leave.”
Vergil’s hand tightened on his sword. “Lady and Trish were going to speak to you first, but…”
“But you jumped at the chance?” You said. “How nice of you.”
“Will you…” He took a deep breath to steady himself and started again. “I did some research on your condition, but we need more time to fix it.”
“Will you stop calling it that?” She said. “You make it sound like I’m slowly dying of some horrible disease.”
“There is nothing else to call it,” Vergil said.
“I suppose “my mistake” would be too difficult for you to say.”
You didn’t think his eyes could narrow any further. They did. “You’re obnoxious.”
“Are you projecting?”
He took another slow breath, but you saw the way his knuckles were slowly turning white around the hilt of his katana. Why did you enjoy this so much? Normally making someone this upset (angry? furious?) would bother you. But with him you almost felt vindicated. Maybe it was the fact that your “condition” was his fault to begin with. Maybe it's because you were still in denial and expected V to walk in the door at any time. “Look,” He said. “I don’t expect us to like each other, but everyone expects us to at least get along. Either we can act like adults, or we can both go our separate ways and be done with it.”
You were silent for a long moment. We can act like adults. Nice of him to actually point some of the blame at himself, even if it was in a backhanded way. But could you trust him? A large part of you said no. It was too easy for him to control you. One slip up or wrong word choice and you’d be caught right under his demonic spell. But if he was being serious… and if the others believed in him...
“Fine,” You said slowly. “But I have some caveats.”
You swore you saw his eyebrows twitch. “Such as?”
You held up one finger. “Stop complaining about my music. You’re not going to stop me from listening to it.” You held up a second finger before he could respond. “Let me deal with the demons and stop bringing them inside.” Again, he moved to speak, but you put up a third finger. “Bring home something other than pizza for a change.”
You swore you saw the flicker of a smile. “Fine.”
“Fine,” You repeated. “Then I’ll go with you.
“Morrison has called in a few different requests. Dante and the others went for one, and they expect us to handle the others.”
“Urgent?”
“You have some time.” He said.
You paused a moment. Then, “How long was I out?”
“Two days.”
You choked. “Two days?”
“I don’t like to repeat myself,” He said as he turned back toward the door. “And I suggest you get these plants figured out.”
“I’ll be the one to worry about my plants,” You said. “You leave them alone.”
Vergil paused, glancing back into the room. “He slept here?”
It took you a moment to realize who he was talking about. Odd that he wasn’t saying “I”, but maybe he too was still struggling with it as much as you. “Most of the time. We never had quite so many plants though.”
He paused again. Then, “I was told this was the best way to even out your demonic energy.”
You blinked. “You did this?”
“I’m leaving in an hour,” He said without looking back. “With or without you.”
Then he left, leaving you irrefutably confused and, surprisingly, a little disappointed.
-----------------
An hour was rather generous of him, so you made sure to use every bit of it. You even set a hard timer on your phone, so he couldn’t possibly argue with you when you sauntered down to the front of the store exactly 59 minutes since he left, ready to go. This time, you had been a bit smarter about your clothing choice, just in case the vine wanted to come out and play again; a low hanging tank top and a jacket zipped up to your neck to hide the scar. And he did scowl at you - you had a feeling you’d never get away from that - but he didn’t complain and off you went.
Today, you had three separate jobs; two scouting requests (you didn’t find anything on those) and one suspicious potential demon in a greenhouse on the other side of the city. You ignored the irony that you of all people were sent to the greenhouses, but you realized immediately upon your arrival that it may have been for more reasons than just a demon. The plants inside were sickly. Flowers were wilting. Fruits and vegetables were dying. And, if you remembered right, this was a very important source of food for the people that had survived the tree.
“Can you fix this?” Vergil said as he knelt in front of vines filled with rotten tomatoes.
You knelt beside him, brushing your fingers against the vegetables. The rot slowly disappeared, and the tomatoes turned a bright, fresh red once again. “I don’t know about all of them,” You said. “Not without some demons for fuel.”
“There are some around,” He said.
“Hiding?”
“You can’t feel them?”
You paused, pressing your fingers against the ground. You could feel the roots wrapping around themselves and seeds that had yet to grow. But you could also feel strange holes in between them. Small, humanoid shaped holes. “Not directly,” You said. “But…” You twisted your hand, moving a few of the roots. Then, you pulled your hand up, spearing them through the holes. You heard a few screeches that went silent within seconds. “They’re what's eating the plants away.”
Vergil left your side, slicing through the ground over where you felt one of the holes. He ripped a demon body out of it, stabbing it himself before tossing it at your feet. You wrinkled your nose, grateful it wasn’t one of the stinkier demons you’d dealt with over the last few weeks. “How did you manage that?” You said.
He smirked, but it faded quickly. “The Yamato can cut through anything.”
Yamato. He spoke of it so fondly. Almost like a parent would a child. That was the first time you’d head that name. Dante had proudly named his own sword “Devil Sword Dante” apparently (and you’d teased him over that more than enough by now), but Yamato seemed… different. Just as special, you assumed, but different in a way you couldn’t understand. You wondered if that would be something he’d be willing to tell you about if you asked.
“There’s more,” He said.
“You want me to kill them?”
“That’s what you’re here for.”
You rolled your eyes. “And here I thought you didn’t need me.” You hopped around to the other side of the demon - a small, gremlin looking thing - and unzipped the top of your vest. The vine was quick this time, sucking out the rest of the demon’s blood with eagerness before vanishing again. You zipped up your jacket and felt for more gaps. You found five in total, but only three were big enough to absorb anything from. However, you made sure to pour back whatever you got into the soil, regrowing all the plants you could.
“Will they grow back normally?”
You blinked before you realized he’d even spoken. “They should if they’re taken care of,” You said. “But I take care of my own flowers so…” You shrugged as you moved back to the entrance. “There’s more nearby. A lot more. I’ll get what I can but you might have to start carrying your own weight.” You gave him a dismissive wave and wandered over to the next greenhouse before he could respond. You did, however, hear a light sigh of annoyance as you walked away.
The second greenhouse was as infested as the first, with you uprooting the few you killed and Vergil grabbing others before you could. By the third greenhouse, it had turned into something close to a competition, with him moving much faster than a human should and you stretching your mental connection as far as it could possibly go to beat him to the punch. A few times, you swore he just disappeared and wondered if his demon powers gave him the ability to teleport. Of course, that was probably cheating, but you were at the limits of your power, so it seemed only fair he should get to use his own.
By the sixth greenhouse you were exhausted, and the demons you were finding weren’t enough to sustain the number of plants you’d brought back to life. You sat down outside of it, breathing heavily as you leaned your head back and let your eyes close. It was the last one, but you weren’t sure if you’d be able to fix it today. Even your senses were muddled, as you weren’t even able to feel the roots of the grass anymore.
But you’d done a great service. That had to be good enough.
“Done already?” Vergil said.
You opened your eyes just to glare at him. “Not all of us have the stamina you do.”
Was that another flicker of a smirk? You weren’t certain. “Maybe you shouldn’t have challenged me.”
“I never challenged you,” You said. “I just told you to stop being dead weight.”
Vergil rolled his eyes. “Stay here. I’ll deal with the rest.”
“Don’t you dare think me weak,” you said, throwing your hand out. It was shaky and fell back against your side quicker than you intended. “I’m more than capable of…” Deep breath. “Keeping up.”
“Clearly,” Vergil said as he entered the greenhouse. You heard the screeches of demons behind you and just closed your eyes again. You’d siphon energy from them later. He’d been pretty good so far at leaving everything for you, but you supposed he didn’t need it. He clearly had all the power he needed while you were left to siphon from the leftovers.
A rustle from nearby caught your attention. You let your head fall to the side, staring out over the open field. You noticed subtle movement in the grass. But there was no wind to stir it up and nobody in the fields to disturb it. Frowning, you forced yourself to your feet and moved over to where you thought the rustling was coming from. You placed your hand on the ground, drawing from the grass so you could sense what was underneath it.
Your eyes widened. Big holes. Dozens of them. How had you not sensed them before?
“Verg…”
You screamed as numerous holes burst open at once. The gremlin demons landed and charged straight at you. You tried to get to your feet, but your exhaustion took over and you crumbled. You reached for the grass, begging it to rise for you. But it wilted instead. You snapped your head up as a gremlin jumped at you.
Blue lines filled the air between you and the demons. The gremlins screamed as they hit the ground, sliced to pieces. Your eyes caught a blue blur, and the others nearby died in an instant. Vergil appeared before you, sheathing Yamato with a loud, deliberate click. You stared at him, mouth agape as your heart pounded somewhere in your throat. “I didn’t sense them.”
“You were too focused on the greenhouses,” He said.
“You knew they were there?”
“I knew there were more around,” Vergil turned to the carnage of broken soil and torn roots. “We’ll get some soil sent over from Fortuna. Send Dante out to fix it.”
You pushed yourself back to your feet, wincing as you took a few steps forward. Most of the demons had already bled out, but there were a few you could still absorb. I don’t deserve these, you thought. You didn’t kill them. You weren’t stronger than them. But you needed the energy, and all you could imagine was V smiling as he took a step back, ignoring the demons he and the others had killed in front of you.
You need it too.
“Thank you,” You whispered as you zipped your coat back up.
“Is a day enough time for you to recover?”
You closed your eyes and nodded. “There’s plenty of demons here.”
“Dante promised to bring some home.”
“... That’s kind of him.”
Vergil turned away. “We’re done here.”
“Wait,” You said as you moved to the last greenhouse.
“What are you doing?”
“Fixing the last one,” You said as you pushed yourself inside.
“You don’t have the energy for that.”
“You don’t know what kind of energy I have,” You said as you continued into the middle of the greenhouse, turning your hand as you went. The plants bloomed as you passed by, smaller than the other greenhouses, but alive and ready for someone else to take care of them. When you were done, you took a deep breath, listening for the vine. It was silent now, and you wondered if you’d managed to even your energy out. “Now we can go,” You said, but jumped when you realized Vergil was in the doorway.
“You’re pushing yourself.”
“I’m doing my job,” You said. “Why else would you all have sent me here?” You moved to push past him, but he didn’t let you. His gaze locked with yours, but you still couldn’t read his expression. “What?” You said, unable to hide your frustration. “Were you expecting me to just stand around and watch you do everything?”
“No,” He said.
“Then what is it?”
“Is this how you were with him?”
You froze, confused. “Like… what with him?”
“Loud and careless.”
Your jaw clenched and your eyes narrowed. “We knew how to work together,” You said. “And respected each other, something I’m not even sure you’re capable of.”
He let you move past him then, and you flipped open your phone to call someone else for a ride.

Ebony and Ivory (V x Reader Fanfic) Chapter One
Author notes: So...so. This might as well be a thing, yeah? This is gonna be a multi part fanfic. I took a creative liberty and based some of the plot devices on dishonored and the outsider, pay them no mind. I hope you guys enjoy!
Chapter One
The Void was so cold and cloying.
You awoke in its black embrace, wrapped in chill and embers. Breath settling in lungs like a heavy, heady fog. Your eyes opened, taking in the dull glow, the suspended debris, the lonely gaze of a whale carcass floating by. There was nothingness here in the Void, an empty feeling that expanded into the darkness. Here you were alone, yet one with everything. A single voice calling into nothingness, a part of the chorus crying into the night. Your hand reached upwards—or was it down—as a chilled gasp escaped your pent-up lungs.
Awaken, his voice did speak.
You wouldn’t have awoken if “He” didn’t have a task for you. The mouthpiece of the Void, the forsaken man you sold your soul to. All those years ago. You could scarcely remember any time that wasn’t now. You sat up, body stiff and blood coursing fast through waking veins. You look at your hands, seeing the tone of your skin return. Your nails didn’t grow since you saw them last, a scar remained on your palm from...when did you get that scar? It belonged there, you knew that, but why?
Shake the cobwebs from your frame.
You stood, a cold, chilling wind passing over naked flesh. You were used to this cold by now, you did not shiver. The cold reminded you that you are alive. Your pale colored hair settled in the air, eyes now fully open, clarity returning. You knew what it was you had to do, and who you served. As the wind rushed past, you felt clothing settling on your frame. A blouse, waist hugging shorts, thigh highs. You preferred it like this. A feeling of normalcy followed, arms stretched over your head until joints popped and muscles groaned. Awake now, fully.
Your soul is his to keep.
You rolled your eyes at the whispering of the Void, rubbing them in the nest instant as you walked forward out of the dark cloud that had cradled you. Debris formed underneath you with each step, creating your path. This place had a flare for the over dramatic. Then again, so did the being that made its home here. At the very thought of him, the air in front of you shimmered and cracked, shards of dark crystals swirling and taking shape. No matter how hard you tried, you could never recall his face when you weren’t looking straight at it.
He is of all things, songs whispered to cradles and bones gnawed by teeth.
You sighed, staring at the one thing on him you remembered. His gaze, swallowed whole by darkness. Black eyes stared back from cold skin, and the man smiled.
“You look well rested, Y/N,” He said in a smooth purr, walking in a slow circle around you.
It was in your nature to wait until he prompted you to speak, hands clasped behind your back. You can't remember a time he ever laid his hands on you, always a few steps away. A distance, a reminder. He was a celestial being, something unknown and mysterious. More than the world and humanity itself. And you, born of mortal flesh and bone, made more by the Void’s whispering. You knew your place and your duties. You were just impatient to get to them.
“How do you feel?” He hummed when your silence persisted, head tilted to the side. The Void rustled his hair—what color was it again?
You shrugged, letting out a quiet yawn before replying.
“I feel fine enough,” You felt no pain, just a little lethargic, “A bit hungry. Will the place you send me have places to eat?”
He smiled—at least you think he did? And clasped his hands behind his back, “Aren’t you at least a slight bit curious of where you are going? And why?” He sounded amused at least.
“I assumed you were going to inform me,” Was your dry reply, “As you always do.”
He chuckled; the sound carried on soft blowing winds. His laughter seemed to echo into eternity, finally sending a chill up your spine. You were reluctant to admit you were eager to set out—tasks meant time away from the Void, in sunlight and warmth, fresh air and food. With people not consumed by an ever-present torment. You had no idea how long you had slept, but then again time had no meaning here and each dimension visited traveled at its own pace.
But you were sure he already knew that.
His feet tapped on stone, and it appeared he was doing laps around you again. You stifled a sigh, impatience building but mouth unable to say anything. Let him go at his own pace, patience will be rewarded right? You tried to tell yourself as much. With each passing second your mind began to buzz anew at the prospect of seeing new faces, learning new things. A warm shower, the feeling of lather in your hair. You never realized how important the little things were until spending time in the Void—despite the time you spent sleeping, it still left its mark on you. You couldn’t wait to do simple things. A sip of tea, the warmth of a hug. Would you be able to hug people there?
“I see you are as eager as ever,” The being before you hummed, his voice passing from one ear to another, “Perhaps I shouldn’t take up too much of your time?”
You bit your tongue, remembering he could know everything as you knew it. Pushing down the buzzing energy, you replied as neutral as you could, "Being in your presence is always a gift, Master. Do not rush on my account.”
He chuckled again, turning into a cloud of black crystal shards and shimmering back to your view. Taking form once more, he leveled his gaze on you. You saw his expression shift from amused to serious, at least from what you could recognize from him. All the years serving him had taught you well enough to notice his shifts in mood. How many years had it been again, since you took your first breath of cold air, since your soul was claimed in his name? The thought settled in your stomach like lead weights, a reminder of who you were. The taste of ice and metal settling on your tongue the more you inhaled the chilled air, each moment wasted could have been another moment free.
The Void was both comfort and a curse, pain and relief. Claws on your spine and balm on your soul. You straightened your back, gaze meeting his as the its whispers settled around you. Duty first, fun later right?
“You should know by now your duties and what it is I expect of you,” His tone was both flat and melodic, mingling together like nails on a chalkboard and wind-chimes. This was an order, and your body tensed immediately as you felt his energy seize you, “Something has tipped the balance, and it is your job to fix it. A blight, an impurity, a taint. It has tipped the scales of a dimension so far it threatens others.”
If he is a mouthpiece, you are a puppet.
He stepped closer to you, toe to toe now and just close enough you felt the chill of his breath. He smelled of salt and the ocean, of something dark and ancient and forbidden. You felt the black of your eyes swallow the irises, until your own eyes mimicked his. You were given an order to follow, it was now written in obsidian. The wind in the Void howled, louder and louder, until it was whipping against you like a hurricane. You felt as if you were beginning to fall, sight slipping away as the whispers and cries around you grew louder and louder, from all directions. Yet still above the chaos and noise you could feel his gaze, fixed on you. His voice was loud in your ear, yet still a whisper.
“You will travel to Redgrave city, and you will fix what disaster they have wrought. Do not disappoint me."
~~~
Upon waking, nausea was your first companion.
Disorientation and dizziness were close seconds. You were facing the sky, sounds around you muffled liked they were under water. Everything was like that at first, as if a haze of water was shielding your senses. Slowly, they began to rise as you blinked several times. You saw your hand, shielding your eyes from the sun, clouds drifting in and out of focus. It clicked with you a moment later—The sun! How long had it been since you felt its warmth, felt warmth at all? It had felt like ages despite you having no conception of the time you spent sleeping. Your senses returned, one by one as you sat up quickly—too quickly. Your stomach lurched a second later, a gag quickly swallowed and leaving an unpleasant taste in your mouth.
Ugh, traveling from the Void to new locations was either a breeze or a nightmare. In this instance? A nightmare.
You groaned aloud, rubbing both hands down your face as you put your head between your knees, willing the world to stop tilting. Physicality sucked sometimes. Though you found yourself enjoying what you could register through the discomfort of your settling body. The air? Comfortable. Back? Warmed from the sun. Ground hard and breeze so forgiving and...what was the hell was that smell? On that breeze was a stench that sent your stomach rolling again. You gagged a few more times, lifting your head with a heavy cough and wiping your mouth. What the hell was that? You registered sulfur, ash, rot, and burning rubber. A cacophony of unpleasant things and very bad signals. Ash and sulfur usually meant demons, as did rot. As for burning rubber... you got your answer upon finally looking around.
You were on a concrete roof of what used to be an office building, or at least you assumed. Upon shakily coming to your feet you were able to see it was half submerged in water...along with dozens upon dozens of other broken, shattered buildings. Debris, everywhere. It looked like parts of the Earth’s crust had been displaced, jutting up from the ground with buildings still attached in the distance. What in the name of the Void had happened here? Mass destruction met your every glance. You could see smoke billowing up in several locations, ash floating on a gentle breeze that seemed a bit strange in the chaos. You could hear what sounded like a car alarm in the distance, and you found yourself seeing a lot of...spiky brambles? Big spiky brambles. Huge vines, weaving in between the buildings and chaos and...
What the fuck was that?
You found your eyes hovering on a towering behemoth in the sky. What in the freshest of hells were you looking at? It reached into the clouds, tall as a skyscraper. Swirling tendrils curled into a ball into the sky, almost like the branches of a tree, glowing red in place and dusting the land in light clouds of ash. A mixture of brambles and thorn, it painted a strange picture among all the chaos. You put your hands to your face again, blinking over and over as you tried to get your bearings. There was so much to unpack her. Strange monster tree, strange monster brambles, mass destruction. This was clearly the cause of the imbalance, but you knew virtually no information at that moment to form a plan of any kind. The first step was to figure out what those things were, why they were there, and how to get rid of them. If you were lucky.
“Fuck.” You muttered, disappointment filling you, “I somehow think I won't be getting a shower anytime soon.”
Luckily there was zero people around to hear you mumbling to yourself. You had to get your bearings on being a normal person again. You tapped your feet on the ground, stretching your arms and testing your body. Felt strong enough, felt sturdy enough. Everything was in the right places. You let out a slow breath, concentrating on activating the energy of the Void your body possessed. Instantly, a burning sensation slithered along your palms, glowing light blue marks traveling through your veins like glowing whale oil. The ground beneath you crackled to life, tendrils of energy emerging and swirling in a deadly dance around your feet. You quickly deactivated the energy, feeling it settle back inside with a low hum of power. Everything in its place and all things as they should be.
You were still sad about that shower though.
Stifling the disappointment, you stretched again, brain racing as you eyed the big, scary-looking tree in the distance. Most times you popped into a situation it was before everything had gone to hell. Whatever had happened to this place, “Redgrave city” was without foresight. You were put there with purpose, clearly there was something you were meant to find in this time, in this moment. Or maybe it was just the Deity playing his games. The thought had you sighing again, something you felt you would be doing a lot for this task. There was a lot of ground to cover, and you were unsure of where to start amongst all the bullshit.
That was until you heard the sound of loud, deep snarls in the distance, mingled with the sound of a building collapsing.
You immediately darted to the other side of the roof, griping a flag pole as your gaze searched the horizon. Almost immediately you saw something big, scary, and ugly in the distance. Oh, that was most certainly a demon. You could make out spikes and sharp teeth, horns and...a mouth on its stomach. This might as well be a thing, right? You made a visible face of disgust, watching its mighty jaws move and speak, but unable to see who it was speaking to, or make out what it was saying. That was a perfect place to start. You saw it jump down, out of view, and immediately pressed forward.
The Void gave you the speed and agility you needed to grip the pole, using it for leverage to springboard off the side of the building over the water. The Void power activated immediately, blue tendrils shooting out to grip the next building before you could land, sending you forward faster with each bound. A smile spread across your face, elation filling you now that the nausea and disorientation were gone. The air felt so warm, rushing past your body with each leap—like soaring. The impact of your feet was dulled by magic, the sensation of running so satisfying after not doing so for a long time. You connected to the next building, tilting back and arching your body down to graze your fingers along the water's surface. It felt cool, so real under your fingertips. It was real. You let out a light laugh, turning into a shout of delight as the momentum took you skyward again.
To be alive was a true gift, one you would not take for granted.
With each movement energy sizzled through your limbs, electrifying and slightly painful. Pain was welcome, a reminder. As you moved you kept your eyes on the cathedral you saw the creature standing on earlier. The closer you got, the more its voice became clear. Guttural, warped, demonic. It was cursing at someone, the sounds immediately followed by the rumble of a crumbling building. You skidded to a halt along the edge of a closer piece of debris, suspended by tendrils as your eyes searched for the creature again. Near enough to make out what it was saying now, filled with frustration and rage. Upon further focus, you saw it again—it was inside the cathedral now. What was he swatting at? Zipping white hair, bursts of energy and metal scraping on metal...
That looked like a human. It was.
Or at least, they looked it, you didn’t want to assume. A humanoid figure, fighting with the demon much to your shock and immense relief. Thank the gods and their glory, you wouldn’t just be interacting with just monsters for this task. Whoever this guy was, he sure was zipping around fast. Fighting the demon, you could make out just that much. You heard his light laughter in the chaos, mingled with...taunting. He was taunting the creature, making it more and more mad as it destroyed yet another wall of the building. Fascination and excitement filled you, along with a pleasant sense of watching an action scene play out like a movie. You were impressed—The little human guy seemed to be holding his own quite well. He was fast, wielding what looked to be a sword and slashing the creature over and over as they tumbled out into a courtyard.
You quickly and quietly leapt to the next building you could get attached to, peeking over the edge at the fight below with elated interest. You didn’t know what species this world had, but you were getting the feeling it was more than your garden variety humans. You were close now, hidden from sight but close enough to see the fight below with clarity. The man had short white hair, a cocky facial expression on a chiseled face. But more importantly, he had what looked to be a glowing metal arm on the right half of his body. He was using it to level this attack on the demon—who was a thousand times uglier up close. You ached for popcorn, watching the fight was certainly entertaining. The unfamiliar man grabbed the demon that must have been ten times bigger than he, whipping it around by its tail over and over before flinging it into a nearby building with a shout of elation.
Well. This was definitely the place to start.
Heart beating with excitement and fear, you slid down the side of the debris, unseen by the two fighting creatures. Your tendrils formed almost feathery paths on the water for you to walk on, taking you up so you could duck behind a nearby pile of broken concrete to quietly watch. The problem now was not getting attacked. Or at least seeing if this man was friendly. You lost count of how many times you had been attacked by those you were supposed to help—people jumped to conclusions a lot. Humans especially. You touched your hand to the concrete, peeking out lightly and pushing your hair over one shoulder. This fight was coming to an end, it would seem. You watched the creature fall into a building, sending it crumbling as wheezed and groaned.
“I must not be defeated...in a place like this...!” He rasped, pulling himself slowly up again, “The fruit...is mine...! I will rule the Underworld, not him...!”
Underworld? Him? You frowned, feeling like you were getting puzzle pieces, but all in the wrong order and zero clue to what the puzzle would form.
You saw the white haired man raise a gun, pointing it at the creature to more than likely provide the killing blow. But something stopped him. A rush of air, and the sound of flapping wings. You gaze darted up to see a dark blue, demonic bird swoop down to the demon, flying around it tauntingly as it tried to swat the bird away. It was a beautiful creature, despite the demonic edge it had. Deep, dark blue feathers flapping powerfully as it dodged the demon’s swiping claws, cackling all the while.
Then, from your right, a voice spoke out.
“I curse my stars in bitter grief and woe,” The deep, smooth purr of a voice mused as a new face walked himself on the tattered courtyard, idly twirling a silver cane with each step, “That made my love so high and me, so low.”
This felt like the punchline to a very odd joke. A demon, a twink, and a goth walked into a bar—You had to bite your lip to stop a snort. All that time in the Void was making you insane. This new man was different from the other, another pretty boy all the same but carrying a very different vibe. Head down, black hair waving in the breeze and looking vaguely like he stepped out of a hot topic catalog. Did hot topics exist here? You shook your head to clear the thought, watching in curiosity as the newcomer approached. You recognized that poem he had quoted—it was by William Blake. Some things did cross dimensions it would seem. And what an odd thing, to stroll into a scene with your head down, reading poetry from a small leather-bound book.
The white-haired boy seemed to recognize the newcomer, lowering his gun as he approached the demon. The pale man’s back was now to you, and you found yourself fascinated with all you saw. He was covered in tattoos as well, ones that writhed as he rose his cane, pointing it at the distracted demon. You saw from its tip a burst of black energy, then a panther was bounding toward the demon. Before you could see what happened, the bird swooped near you, causing you to duck behind the debris just as the sound of blades rang out. You pressed to the concrete surface, hoping the demonic creature didn’t see you. Why were you so nervous? Probably because you always were when there was so much you didn’t understand.
A couple blue feathers fell near you, slowly falling to the ground as you heard more voices behind you.
“Why...why are you...?” The demon rasped weakly after you heard his body hit the ground hard, his voice carried on the light breeze around you.
“Little wander,” The voice of the man, the one with ebony hair. You slide down, back to the debris as you tried to keep as quiet as possible.
“Hie thee home...!” His voice was somehow...pleasant, melodic and smooth, even as you heard him grunt and the sound of his cane cutting through flesh. The demon released a pained cry, blood spurting on concrete hard to miss as he disintegrated. Or at least you thought so. You were too afraid to pop out yet. Your Void sense was tingling, your foresight warning you that something had already changed from your presence. Which wasn’t a good sign, considering you were hiding at that moment. But now the demon was dead, and you had no idea how to make yourself known or approach people. Dread curled in your gut, anxiety mingling with all the time you had missed in your slumber. The Void always left you messed up afterwards, yet also making you whole again.
The boy spoke now, his voice sounding pleasantly surprised as his footsteps moved toward the other man, “Thought I was gonna have to pick you out of his...uh...tummy teeth,” He grunted.
You twisted one of the feathers in your fingers, swallowing as the bird swooped overhead again.
“Pardon my delay,” Came the smooth, light toned reply, “I was catching up on some reading.”
“Yeah,” The white-haired boy replied, sounding pretty disinterested. You wished you could look and check but the sound of something crumbling made you hesitate, “Looks like a real page-turner.”
The men kept talking for a few moments, and you caught the name “Dante” and mention of an unfamiliar term. “Qliphoth” and “Qlipoth pollen”. You also learned immediately that your suspicions were correct—the thing in the sky was in fact a tree, a tree that grew in the underworld as the black-haired man told it. He was saying a lot of things you needed to hear, thank the lord. A blood sucking demon tree, that’s exactly the thing you weren’t hoping for. Not that specifically, but close enough right?
“If Dante is alive, we save him,” The boy huffed as he took in the information as well, his footsteps starting up again, “If not, we don’t.”
“Wait.” His footsteps were halted by the other man. That word alone sent a worried thrill up your spine. You felt like a kid playing hide and seek, right about to be caught.
“First we need to exterminate some...Qliphoth roots,” The man suggested, his tone lilting and smooth. You closed your eyes—goth man definitely had the voice for poetry. You remember a lecture in class once from a literature major, he used to read poetry all the time in a voice far less pleasant. The memory sent a twinge of pain through your skull, hand coming up to press the source as you winced. Remembering the past always lead to pain, you needed to remember that. Eyes always forward, not back. Besides, you had more important things to focus on. You debated following these men from a distance, observing them as best you could without being caught. Stealth was always an option.
You heard the feet start moving again, only to be halted by the one sentence you didn’t want to hear. Right above your head.
“So sorry, gentleman,” A grating voice said in an amused tone, causing your head to jerk up to see the bird staring down at you with glowing eyes, "We seem to have an audience...!”
Shit.
Your foresight suddenly flared, marking that you had altered the situation. Your presence was very known now, there was no doubting that. You gasped, lurching back in shock as the bird cackled lightly at your reaction. You weren’t fast enough. Sharp talons grasped you by the shoulders in the next instant, digging into skin as you were pulled into the air with ease. How could you have been such an idiot?! That time in the Void had definitely screwed with your focus. The bird was apparently strong, pulling your squirming form up over the debris and depositing you not too gracefully onto the ground right in front of the two men—the white haired man had his gun raised again, the other holding his cane pointed at you. Gaze lifted, you found yourself face to face with a snarling panther, eyes burning a vicious red as it took a step toward you.
You didn’t dare activate your powers, not yet. Not till you had a better grasp on the situation.
“A human survivor?” The white-haired boy said in surprise when you lifted your head, now seeing your face in the light. He was definitely a looker up close, they both were. You felt very small despite the level of power you knew you had. Anxiety never seemed to fade, you felt like you were in trouble. He still had his gun raised at you, and you definitely didn’t want to appear threatening.
You leaned back, a worried expression on your face as you whispered, “Um...please don’t shoot me?” It sounded like a question, even though you were sure you were not asking one.
Both men stared down at you, then at each other.
The black-haired man frowned, turning his gaze to you again and tilting his cane. He pressed the flat handle to your throat, tilting your chin up so they could closer inspect you.
“Human survivors are heavily unlikely,” He replied to an unasked question, lips curving into a wry smile, “So I highly doubt that’s the case. Though I’d also imagine if she meant to attack, she would have already, yes? Although,” Despite his smooth, gentle tone, the cane pressed a little harder, a warning of sorts as he continued, “Eavesdropping is...very rude, little miss.”
This man had very nice eyebrows, a strong nose, and full lips. You tried to focus on that instead of that growing fear you might fail your mission. Fighting the one lead you had was out of the question, and the Deity would not be happy. You gulped, trying to slow your heartbeat.
“I...wasn’t trying to...” You replied as calmly as you could manage with cold metal on your throat, “And I am human. I...i mean, not a normal human, sure, but I am a human.”
You were stuttering, you couldn’t help it. And technically you weren’t lying either. You were human in origin, made better by the energy of the Void. Half truths were better than outright lies.
The black haired man hummed, seeming to weigh your words as the twink asked, “What do you mean by ‘not a normal human’?” He pushed the cane away from your face, putting his gun in its holder and shooting the goth man a look that clearly said “back off”. He complied, a smirk on his lips as he retracted the cane and took a step back. You released a heavy, relieved breath you didn’t know you were holding, glad you no longer had the looming threat of a bullet and a poetry major of your head.
“I was born...gifted,” You replied hesitantly, accepted a hand when white-haired boy offered it to you and coming to your feet, “I have abilities, almost like magic. They are what helped me survive until now.” Again, not a lie.
Both men exchanged another glace, silence stretching for a few moments as they both thought over what you said. You looked at the panther still circling you, low growls coming from its chest. It was beautiful as well, black with swirling red glowing patterns in its fur. Your hand twitched, and you quickly stifling the urge to touch anything before you lost a hand. What the hell was wrong with you? Impulse control had never been a strong suit it would seem, though your brain at least knew well enough not to follow through. Especially not when these two men still didn’t seem to know how to handle you.
Before they could speak to you again, the screech of tires quickly approached. All three of you turned to see a giant van skidding harshly in your direction. You quickly leapt back with the men, but were flattered when the twink still stepped in front of you to protect you and goth boy grabbed your arm to pull you out of the way. Both looked at you when your agility registered, and all you could muster was a shrug.
A woman popped out of the window of the van, dark hair messy over a cute face with freckles over her nose and cheeks.
“I know I know I’m late. Shut it!” She quipped in a southern drawl, pointing at the two, “The roads were all clogged...!”
You heard the twink sigh lightly, pressing a hand to his head as he relaxed a bit. The girl in the van blinked, taking in the situation in a brief pass of her gaze.
“Uh... I know you must be V,” She pointed at the goth—his name was V obviously—before pointing one cutely painted nail at you, “Who’s the new girl? You didn’t mention ‘nuther person, Nero.”
V and Nero. Awesome, you now knew both names.
It took a second for you to realize that V was still griping your arm. Only when he released it did it click, the man taking a step back and tilting his head in observance of you. Nero let out another sigh, you turning in enough time to see him shrug.
“We don’t exactly know her,” He replied, leaning against the van with his metal arm, "Says she has powers though—what's your name, kid?”
You blinked, raising a brow at the word “kid”. You were young in appearance but you were pretty sure you were twenty when you sold your soul. And you looked twenty. Average height too, whereas Mr. Twink didn’t look a day over eighteen. His actual age was a mystery to you, but that didn’t matter at the moment.
“Y/N,” You replied, offering a small, but slightly annoyed smile, “And I’m not a kid. I turned twenty this year.” Big lie, but they didn’t need to know that.
Nero smirked cockily, shrugging as he pushed off from the van, “Noted. Can you fight?”
You nodded simply.
He grunted in reply, “Can you fight demons?”
You nodded again, “I can.” Not a lie. Demons were child's play.
The woman replied before Nero, smacking a hand on the side of the van as she hollered impatiently, “She’s in then! Now hurry it up, I don’t got all day!” She looked at you and pointed at herself, “My name is Nico, you come to me if you need shit, got that?”
You nodded again, offering a timid smile. Agreeing to everything seemed the best course of action. Nico seemed pleased, pulling back into the van—or maybe it was a variation of mobile home—with a chuckle. You looked over the vehicle with a mix of confusion and fascination. Bright neon letters lit up the side, “Devil May Cry” a hard thing to miss. It was on the tires as well. A brand? You wanted to ask, but that familiar flapping sounded overhead, and you turned in enough time to see V put out his arm. The bird swooped down to land on the provided appendage, rustling his feathers and leveling you with a sharp gaze. You immediately straightened your back, staring at him with a mixture of unease and awe.
“Simple as that huh? Just like that, the pretty little princess is a part of the gang!” The bird commented in a sharp tone, following it with a light cackle, “Just gonna take her word for it! Nero you are a genius!”
Everyone was just full of nicknames for you it would seem. You felt like someone else had called you “Princess” before. Only last time you were fairly certain it was an enemy and you broke its nose. You also decided in that moment that you didn’t like the nicknames, a frown settling on your lips as the bird met your challenging gaze with one of his own—beautiful bird, made of absolute bastard it would seem. You had dealt with things like that before.
“We can take all the help we can get,” Nero said in a tone heavily implying violence against this bird, pointing at him with his metal arm threateningly, “If you have any issues with my decision making I’ll be happy to discuss it with you.”
Seemed like there was little room for discussion.
“Oh boy, let’s all gang up on the bird for being the realistic one!” He cackled, but with less steam now, “If she ends up dead weight, just know i did warn you!”
You saw a muscle twitch under Nero’s eye, whatever he said making the boy very, very ticked. The bird leaned his head back, seeming to click right away with the realization of he said something wrong. You had zero idea of what line was crossed, but you wanted to ease the tension somehow.
“I assure you, I’ll be plenty useful,” You shrugged, easily drawing everyone’s attention to you again, “Though I’ll gladly recline the nickname ‘princess’ if you don’t mind.”
The bird seemed surprised you spoke, so you continued.
“How long were you sitting on that zinger, ten piece?” You kept your tone neutral, smiling again when his feathers puffed up in annoyance, “My name is Y/N, by the way. Just in case you couldn’t hear it over your own squawking.”
Much to your shock, your reply made mister goth smile. You saw just the back end of an amused smirk as he turned his head away to hide it, holding this bird up as it made an indignant series of noises at you. Nero relaxed a little, shaking his shoulders a little as he let the tension drop and turned away.
“Let’s not waste any more time, shall we?” V suggested, brushing past you lightly with a light hum, “There are plans to be made, and Qliphoth roots to be destroyed.”
Nero nodded and lead the charge as they headed to enter the van. You hesitated for a moment, watching the panther slink along behind its master and flicking its tail. You weren’t sure that you were meant to follow until Nico poked her head out again, making a motion to you and mouthing ‘can you pick that up?’ as she pointed to a demon horn on the ground. You paused, grabbed it, then looked up again to see her give a thumbs up, motioning eagerly for you to follow behind V inside. You let out a slightly relieved sigh, and made quick work of catching up to the man, observing him curiously all the while.
This is all you had for now, but you had a good feeling about this.
Music
Part One of the Vendetta series.
Rating: PG :)
Words: 1.2k
Warnings + AN: Hey shawties this is the first chapter! This is the first real fic I've ever written so yes that in itself is a warning. Basically glosses over the first scene in the movie because it's a very uncomfortable watch in the first place and I did not want to write in detail about an attempted assault so. Y'know. Anyway I am sending this out into the void so pls enjoy! :)
A yellow coded curfew is now in effect.
The monotone voice echoed its warning as you rushed through the empty streets of London. How typical, you thought, that the one time you dare act outside of your routine you are late, and breaking protocol, no less.
Looking over your shoulder, you round a corner and run into a rather plump wall, before the plump wall begins to speak.
"Excuse me, miss."
A large man stands before you, dismissing your apology and excuse before another man the plump wall introduces as "Willy" appears.
Your heart catches in your throat as the two men step closer, making obscene and vulgar remarks, the kind of remarks that have you reaching in your coat pocket for mace. One of the men roughly grabs your hand before you brandish the mace as your form of protection before the plump wall reaches into his pocket and brandishes his own; a Fingerman badge.
Your blood runs cold and again and you begin to apologize. More vile threats leave the plump wall's mouth before you attempt to run in a last ditch effort to save yourself, but another wall grabs you, this one armed with a baton. You desperately struggle and cry for help. You broke the rules, you think, and now you pay the price.
Your screams and thoughts are cut off by a voice from the shadows, and peering out, you can see the shadow is masked.
"The multiplying villainies of nature do swarm upon him."
The men stop, and angrily turn and curse in the direction of the shadow.
"Disdaining fortune, with his brandish'd steel which smoked with bloody execution."
The masked shadow steps forward, slicing in half the plump wall's badge -which was presently being brandished as a sort of justification for his transgressions- with a single stroke of his dagger before moving with such grace that you would not expect from a man of his strength, which was on blatant display as he threw Willy into a brick wall.
You watched him as he seemed to dance around the Fingermen in incredible, fluid movements, throwing them around as if they weighed nothing to him. Upon disarming the last of your would-be-assaulters, the masked shadow puts his weapon down to his side.
Was this an attempt of mercy, you wondered? Kneeling on the floor from being thrown aside, you peer up at the shadow, attempting to gauge his intentions from the details of his mask. You wince as, suddenly, he's punched but then he's moving again, throwing the failed attempt at mercy into a wall. He walks over to Willy, who is now on the floor, crying out for help much like you yourself were just moments ago.
"We are oft to blame in this- 'tis too much proved- that with devotion's visage and pious action, we do sugar o'er the devil himself."
The masked shadow moves to strike Willy down, for good this time, you think to yourself. After peering down at Willy's motionless body for a moment, either daring him to get up again or making sure he's dead, you can't tell, he walks towards you now with silent footsteps and looming figure as you reach for your mace for the second time tonight.
The shadow stands a few feet in front of you and you have to crane your neck to meet his eyes. He wears a Guy Fawkes mask, cropped by a curtain of dark hair. You take in his all black attire, and the way his voice rumbles as he assures you he means you no harm.
"Who are you?" you demand, just barely finding your voice.
"Who is but the form following the function of what, and what I am is a man in a mask."
Ah, funny, you think sarcastically. You'd say it out loud but, having just seen this man dispose of four Fingermen with ease, you bite your tongue and decide to keep the remark to yourself.
"But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis personae. Voila!"
You flinch at his exclamation and watch almost amusedly as he theatrically suggests the character of the dramatis personae. At some point, his theatrics turn into passion, and his passion quickly spirals into anger. No, not anger, rage, you think to yourself. Producing a dagger more quickly than you can process he slices a "V" into a poster promoting Sutler's values on the bricked wall of the alley as his dialogue comes to a halt. Again, you flinch.
"The only verdict is vengence- a vendetta...", he adds with a deep, rolling voice. His back is turned to you while his mask looks over his shoulder. You have whiplash from his mood swings; you are hanging on to every word he says.
Finally, he turns back to saunter in your direction before he removes his hat and bows deeply, introducing himself as V. V raises his mask from the ground to look at you, and you feel a chill as the smirking mask stares into your soul.
"To whom, might I ask, am I speaking?" V inquires, almost cheerfully as he rises and fixes his hat back on his head.
Introducing yourself, V repeats your name, once as a question, once slowly- as if testing it on his tongue.
"Of course you are", he remarks thoughtfully. You shiver.
"What does that mean?" you ask quietly, afraid of provoking the masked shadow.
"It means that I, like God, do not play with dice and do not believe in coincidence." He offers his gloved hand out to you on the ground slowly, like you are a frightened animal. "Are you hurt?" V quietly asks as you accept his hand. The leather is high quality and cold, and the fingers underneath hold your own with such caution- like he feels you might run from his touch.
Even at standing height, he is much taller than you.
You tell him that you are fine, thanks to him, as you take in his appearance once more. You take note of the multiple daggers he has strapped to either side of his body. They look razor sharp and shine a ghostly silver in the moonlight, though now there is a splash of crimson across several of them.
"I merely played my part. Tell me, though, do you enjoy music?"
"I suppose."
"You see, I'm a musician of sorts", V declares, "and on my way to give very special performance. I would be honored if you could join me". There is a hint of mischief in his voice and again, you feel the mask stare into your soul. No, you think, it's the eyes. The black voids of the mesh eyes are pinning you to your spot, and somehow, it feels as if he is studying your face with a burning intensity.
This is a stranger, you suddenly remember. An armed stranger, whose several blades seem to be instruments of their own, and he better than a musician of some sorts. "I don't think so," you hesitate. "I should be getting home". You hold your coat closer to you out of habit, eyeing V with caution.
"I promise you, it'll be like nothing you've ever seen. And afterwards, you'll return home safely."
Midnight Adventures
Taehyung x Reader
Author: Admin MoRo
Summary: Adventures with Tae in the cover of night
Note: Noticed once again I haven’t posted in a while so until I finish the story I’m currently writing here’s another older story I wrote lord knows how long ago. Giving Tae a little love here.
Warnings: Fluff because Tae is fluff
Word Count: 1723
It's late on a Saturday night. You are almost ready for bed when your phone goes off. Picking it up, you wonder who could be calling at this hour.
"Jagiya."
"It's Taehyung!" You almost squeal out loud.
Your boyfriend has been on tour for a while so there were times when you couldn't talk to him for days. It had been a few days since he was last able to call you because of his schedule but he was able to at least send you pictures of him, the food he was eating or his outfits and maybe a few quick texts.
"Taehyung!" You practically yell into the phone.
"Y/N-ah, can you let me in please?" His deep voice drifts into your ear through the phone speaker.
"Let you in?" You're confused. "Are you home? Like in Korea?" You ask.
"You'll see. But can you please let me in? It's cold out." You hear him sniff.
You instantly drop your phone and run to your apartment door. Outside the door is the one and only Kim Taehyung in the flesh, who is shivering from the chilly night all wrapped up in a scarf.
"Tae!" You throw your arms around him as he does the same to you, pulling you close into him and burying his face into your hair.
"I've missed you Y/N-ah." He mumbles, now not shivering anymore.
"I've missed you too Tae."
After what seems like forever but also not long enough, you break away and drag him inside to get warm. He sits down on your couch and takes off his coat, hat. face mask. scarf, and his round glasses which fogged up from the sudden temperature change.
"I'm happy you're here Tae but it's almost midnight. Aren't you tired?" You fret like a concerned mother when you realize what time it was. Taehyung just smiles up at you.
"Of course I am but I couldn't spend one more minute away from you."
He leans up to you, reaching for you. "Do you want to go out with me?" He asks you.
"Go out where? It's late." You point out.
"I know but I want to go have midnight adventures and I know places that are still open from when I was a trainee. And no one will be up so I can have you all to myself without other people being around."
Taehyung loves people and being around them but when it comes to you, he would much rather just have you all to himself. He also doesn't like when fans are around when he's with you because then you have to hide, he's always nervous of what people will say or do. So that means a lot of night dates but you do love your night dates though. Seoul is a completely different place at night. Still awake but a different kind of awake. It was more of a quiet neon awake.
You slid into Taehyung's lap and his outstretched arms and give him a kiss. "I would love to go have midnight adventures with you. What should I wear?" You ask him.
"I don't care as long as you are warm." You nod and being walking to your room. "Oh and your black face mask, it's cold out!" He calls out to you. You quickly get dressed in jeans and a soft pink hoodie before grabbing your black face mask.
Taehyung got you the face mask not only for when you get sick and when it's cold out but also for when you go to see him in public. You don't really feel like it's hiding but more of waiting until the world is ready.
When you walk back into the living room, Taehyung is leaning back, head over the back of your couch, his hair flopping over. His eyes were closed. "Aww poor baby is so tired.." You walk over and kiss his exposed forehead. Eyes open up and look at you. He stands up and puts his coat and everything else on.
"Ready?" He says in his muffled voice as he holds out his hand to you. "
Always." You smile behind the mask, knowing that even though he can't see your smile, he can see it in your eyes.
Taking his hand, he squeezes it once. You lock the door behind you and then venture into the night.
"So Tae Tae what do you have planned?" You ask him in an equally muffled voice.
"Jagiya, we're gonna to go to one of my favorite all night cafés and maybe go shopping in Dongdaemun at the night market or go get ice cream. I just want to be with you for as long as I can before my schedule for tomorrow."
You smile at his confession and are suddenly happy for the mask which is covering your blush. Taehyung sometimes doesn't mean to be romantic, he just says what is on his mind. But sometimes those things he says are actually quite romantic or just plain soft. You think it's really adorable when he does this.
Under the street lights, you feel at ease with Taehyung. It's not too cold out and Seoul is so beautiful at night. Soon you feel a tug on your hand and then you're running. Taehyung pulls you along as you both run down the sidewalk, past stores and other night owls.
"Tae why are you running?" You try to not sound out of breath as your cheeks get tinted pink by the extra blood flow. Then you suddenly stop and you crash into his chest.
"To make you breathless." Is all he says before he pulls down both of your masks and kisses you deep and long. You can tell he's missed you. Your head starts to swim and you can hear your heartbeat in your ears before Taehyung pulls away. You touch your cheeks, knowing that they are probably blazing red under the street lights.
You look up at him. His cheeks are the same way and he's breathing heavy.
"I've waited so long to be able to do that again." He looks down at you with kiss-swollen lips.
You cling onto him and push your face into his coat. "I've missed you so much Tae." He holds you too and squeezes you tightly. "I've missed you too Y/N." You stand there, holding each other, for a while, soaking into each other's warmth and presence.
After a little while, Tae loosens his arms and grabs your hand again. "Do you want to go to the café?" You nod and smile up at him before pulling your mask back up. Taehyung leads you into the night to the all-night café.
It's a cute, little quiet café, all lit up. "Do they know you Tae?" You asked quietly. Fans sometimes have a tendency to get a little... extreme around their favorite idols.
"Don't worry, Y/N. Lots of idols and trainees come here so they are used to it. They sort of take care of us." He smiles to reassure you. You nod and let him lead you into the café. He finds a table and sits down. A waitress comes over and takes your drink orders. Taehyung orders a coffee while you order a hot chocolate.
"How was your recent tour Tae?" You ask him over the table. "I tried to keep up with it as best as I could but then school got in the way."
"It was fun but tiring. I'm happy to be home though." He grins big at you, his adorable iconic rectangle smile. You giggle softly.
"That's good. I'm happy you're home too." You grin back at him.
"How are your studies jagiya?" Tae asks. "Is my genius girlfriend becoming even smarter?"
You laugh at his comment. "My studies are going well. Finals are soon, so it's crunch time."
Taehyung smiles. "That's good. I'm so proud of you Y/N. I don't know how you do it."
You smile back. "Aww Thank you Tae~."
The waitress comes back with your drinks, ending the conversation. You slowly sip your hot chocolate while Tae drinks his coffee.
"What is your schedule like tomorrow?" You ask in between sips of your hot chocolate.
" We have photo shoots tomorrow along with dance practice," He looks at you over his mug, "But I hope I will be able to sneak out to see you."
You kick him from under the table. "No, you could get yelled at!"
Taehyung captures your foot in between his legs and laughs at your struggling to get it out. "I'll be find Y/N. Don't worry about it." You huff and quit fighting him.
He lets go of your foot and leans forward to put one of his hand out on the table, palm up. You slip your hand into his and he softly rubs his thumb against yours.
After finishing your drinks, you go back out into the Seoul night air.
"Hmm... I want ice cream. Do you want some Y/N-ah?" He asks you.
"Sure, ice cream sounds good." He leans down and gives you a quick peck before pulling his mask back up.
Since no ice cream shops were open you end up going to a convenience store and buy ice cream there. You take your ice cream to a park to sit down and eat it. The park is softly lit up with a few couples milling around. You and Taehyung find a bench to sit down on to eat your ice cream.
He puts his arm around you and you lean into his warm chest. You can hear his heartbeat through his coat and you feel warm inside and out.
Right now nothing could be better.
Taehyung lightly shakes your shoulder when he notices you nodding off. "Y/N-ah, you fell asleep. We should get you home."
You gently rub your eyes and yawn quietly. "Alright."
He smiles and bends down, knees are touching the ground. "Jagiya, climb on my back. I want to give you a piggy back ride home."
"What?" You stand behind him slightly shocked.
"Just climb on." You laugh at how extra your boyfriend can be. But you still climb onto his back. He lifts you up effortlessly and heads back to your house with you draped across his back.
"I love you Tae." You say into the night sky.
"I love you too jagiya. So much."
Can’t take my eyes off you.
It’s a expirement, i would like some feedback if its necesary i need training ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡. This is my first time writing and going into the writing world
Haha it is also an inspiration to this song:
youtube
“ You'd be like Heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much.”
He could see the pain and confusion through her eyes as he dragged himself to the now fallen king of the underworld has now fallen at their feet, V wanted to finish this with his own hands. He had to for the sake of the truth. To finish this once and for all.
“ V, Get back! Things are about to get really messy.” Dante exclaimed, ready to finish his brother’s corruption once and for all. But v wanted none of that.
“No...please” waving a hand to hault the demon hunter and his beloved taking any advances toward him. He continued advancing toward the fallen king Urizen. “I want to end this with my own hands...”
His beloved stood there ready to see him finish the evil that caused all this, oh how he wanted to hold her again and tell her he’s sorry for neglecting her questions of his past with this demon, how he was only half of a man who was called “Vergil” once. She was too good for him, she cared in a way no one would and he should’ve stopped from the start.
“At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.”
He was so thankful for meeting her that first time in the van. How she loved his poetric side and commented of falling asleep to his voice. His familiars protecting and friendlier toward the woman. He was glad to be alive to feel such feelings he wouldn’t imagine. But he knew what his main goals were.
“While thy branches mix with mine and our roots together join...”
Raising the cane, his beloved and dante tried to reach him back from the fallen king. He felt her wave of sorrow, betrayal, anger through all of them. How sorry he had to hide from all to merge back with his true-self
He pierced the cane and glanced at his beloved’s face one last time.
Not in this liftime, but if we only hard more time..
“You're just too good to be true”
In a flash of light there stood the man Nero’s goal was to end and for dante to finish the mission. The man who merged back in one piece to be whole again.
There stood
Vergil.
Go B a c k | Turn P a g e | M. L i s t
Taehyung held back his laughter as much as he could as he watched his little pupil stare defiantly into the air as she demanded that she see him. He couldn’t help the warm feeling that spread in his chest at the sight of her. He had tried to make her understand, he wasn’t like other men.
He frowned a little, she didn’t think he was a man. She thought he was a deity. He sighed in awe of her raw innocence despite how old she was. Perhaps it was her Catholic upbringing and her uncanny luck with having next to no encounters with the evils of the world. Taehyung had been grateful for that. He had thanked his lucky stars and The Lord and God above that no real harm had ever come to her.
Sure, she had her share of tragedy, she was an orphan now, and at such a young age. He learned this just the day before when he heard the stage hand asking a chorus girl what had brought the new girl into their midst. His heart had ached for her, but he knew that she wouldn’t know another moment of sadness as long as he was in her life. He would make sure of it from now on.
He forced himself to not let his mind wander so much to just savor these moments that he shared with her and called her back to get into position to resume her training. Taehyung saw how she was just about running out of energy to continue with her lessons. Hoseok hyung had probably pushed the girls much harder today. After a few more exercises Taehyung dismissed the young woman to go up to bed. He moved to a different part of the small chapel so that he could speak softly into her ear.
He saw the moment she sharply took in her breath, surprised by how closed he seemed he watched the rise and fall of her chest as though he were entranced. If only she knew, he mused. She huffed and told him her thoughts candidly, he smiled glad that she truly wanted to see him for her own reasons. Not because she wanted to gossip to the chorus girls about how he looked.
Taehyung was infamous in the Opera House, having many names given to him by the patrons and those who worked in the theater. Opera Ghost, Phantom of the Opera, OG, Genius, Maniac, Psycho, the list went on. He was pleased to hear that she didn’t listen to those rumors of heinous deeds that sure he had committed, but she didn’t let that cloud or obscure her image of him.
Taehyung finally agreed, he’d see her one day when the time was right and when she was completely under his spell, though he kept this part form her.
She had urged him to promise her that this would happen and he couldn’t help to comply with her demand. His smile was wide and boxy as he watched her happily jump up and fly up the stairs faster than he thought possible considering how tired and overworked she looked only a few minutes before. Taehyung heard her quick little gasp and heard her clamber back down into the chapel to only kneel at the little alter to say her evening prayers.
Taehyung was glad that she was a verbal prayer. A trait that even the most pious followers of her faith lost along with their childhood. He stifled his giggles at her little plea to The Lord to forgive her for almost forgetting to say her evening prayers. She talked about him. His chest puffed with pride as he heard her voice sound reverent when it came to him.
He listened to her gentle voice as she prayed, Taehyung readied himself to quietly follow her as she made her way to her shared bed with Jennie. He knew it wasn’t likely for anything to be amiss, but he felt it was his responsibility to watch over her. He was her teacher, and his vow to keep her safe was not one that he took lightly.
He watched the little ballerina dancer softly and quietly pad up to the back room to slowly remove her pointe shoes and rubbed her feet to soothe them and slowly undressed into her night shift to rest. Once her head hit the pillow, Taehyung only stayed a brief moment to check the surroundings and make sure she was sleeping soundly before he returned to his dwelling in the belly of the opera house.
